Susan Swarbrick for HeraldScotland.com discusses a new Scottish brand with a unique take on fragrance development:

Urban Reivers comprises three ranges: Reek, Swally and Find Your Way Home. Reek – as the name suggests – is about smell and encapsulates a powerful message. "One of the things that drives me nuts is that we don't memorialise women," said Sheridan. "In my hometown of Edinburgh there are over 200 statues to men. There are more statues to animals than there are to women. I decided to memorialise women through scent." Sheridan worked with bespoke perfumer Sarah McCartney to create a fragrance called Damn Rebel Bitches which is based on the lives of the Jacobite women. "It is not what they smelled like, it is things that would have been around them," she said. "It includes clary sage – a women's herb used in childbirth – malt, blood oranges and hazelnut which was a big part of the Highland diet."

You can read even more about the fragrance developed with Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays at the Urban Reivers blog. What kind of fragrance notes might represent women from your part of the world?

Rachel Krause at StyleCaster.com offers her 10 favorite hair products that smell so good, one might not need to wear scent:

Think about it: A little spritz of long-lasting fragrance into the lengths of your hair is really all you need to leave a trail of scent that will tell everyone in the room that you were just there, just breezing by on your way to something much more glamorous, a completely unrealistic scenario that only tends to go down in perfume ads. With these 10 products, you can enhance texture, define curls, smooth frizz, seal split ends, or get bedhead-y waves and smell like a goddamn dream in one fell swoop. Hair flip away.

Check out the article to see which products made the cut. What's your favorite scented hair product?

LuxuryDaily.com reports that a Dior fragrance can now be eaten:

Guests staying at Mandarin Oriental and those local to the area are invited to attend the afternoon tea. Pastries served are inspired by the fashion house’s Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet fragrance. Created by executive pastry chef Gregory Doyen, the pastries were influenced by the Grasse Rose and fruity notes found in the pink-hued Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet perfume. Chef Doyen has created a vanilla cake with white chocolate and peach coulis and a sacher biscuit with raspberry cream and guava coulis for the occasion.

Sounds delicious! What other fragrances do you think might translate well to desserts? (image below from TravelforSenses.com)

Kayleigh Roberts at Elle.com reports that a specific Victoria's Secret fragrance has proven to be a rather effective mosquito repellent:

If you own a bottle of Victoria's Secret Bombshell perfume, you are in possession of a powerful mosquito repellant, according to a study published recently in the Journal of Insect Science. For the study, researchers at New Mexico State University compared the effectiveness of different mosquito repellants. Making things really interesting, they also included some perfumes in their study. While Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil was only effective for about two hours, the VS fragrance kept mosquitos at bay for even longer.

Have you noticed any of your fragrances to be effective repellents?

Joe Frost at LostatEMinor.com profiles Samantha Taylor of Australia and learns how she's working with Bombay Sapphire:

Having been involved in the beauty industry for over twenty years, both in Australia and abroad, Samantha Taylor is arguably Australia’s preeminent Fragrance Specialist. Since returning home to Australia in 2008, after time in Paris and London working with perfume houses such as Floris, Penhaligon’s and Miller Harris, Samantha created The Powder Room, a place for Australians to learn about the art of fragrance creation. Recently, Samantha got together with Bombay Sapphire to create a scent that reflects the world’s favourite gin, telling us, “Gin is drinkable perfume”.

Previously this week I reported on the "Fragrances" cocktail bar at Ritz Carlton Berlin where mixologist Arnd Heissen is creating cocktails inspired by fragrance. Samantha seems to be working in the opposite direction. What cocktail or liquor would you most want to wear as a fragrance? I can think of a few wines I wouldn't mind bathing in ;-) Check out the video about Samantha below.

The best longest lasting hair scenting product is one I make myself. I mix about two to three ounces of Dove leave in hair conditioner with any fragrance I choose, concentrated fragrance oils work the best for this, just using a squirt or two. Experiment with how much fragrance (you can use regular perfume too) to add, then let marinate for few days. Your hair will smell great, and be very noticeable for hours and hours. Very inexpensive way to fragrance, and condition, hair too. I have found nothing better than the Dove leave in for locking in and holding the fragrance in my hair. (I don't work for them nor anybody in my family or friends)

Heyl yeee for Damn Rebel Bitches! If one were to make a 'fume of the women where I come from, it would be laden with mojo scent! Bitter orange, lime, garlic and onion! Ha!
As for the hair scent, my ultimate will always be anything from Oribe. Utterly addicting.
If I want to smell like a delicious cocktail, I usually head for my bottle of Love & Toast's Gin Blossom. It's like a gin & tonic for your skin! ;-)

Most scented hair products smell too "chemical" for me and don't last as long as perfume. I prefer to just mist some normal perfume in my hair, or Victoria's Secret Fragrance Mists which contain aloe vera so aren't as drying. I always get "your shampoo smells so nice" comments then lol. I'd love to try these products. I have that Loreal one in the hair oil but the fragrance never lasts.
