Winners of April Aromatics Give-Away

06/30/10 16:38:39

April Aromatics is a Natural perfume house from Germany, founded by Tanja Bochnig, a yoga teacher, perfumer and aromatherapist. All scents and cosmetics by April Aromatics are blended with the highest quality natural organic ingredients.

Tanja introduced eight of her creations. Some of them are romantic blends with appealing names such as Spring Dreams and Nectar of Love, and some of them, like Lindenblossom Meadow, Jasmina and Rose Bouquet, are created as homage to individual flowers with minimum strokes and extreme accuracy. The beauty of her scents is truly healing.

A N S W E R S

Portland (Oregon, USA)

Portland is know as the "City of Roses." There is the famous International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park in Portland with over 7000 roses of about 550 species.

The Rose Festival takes place annually in June, when roses bloom.

Centifolia rose

Centifolia rose literally means "rose with one hundred petals." It's also known as Cabbage rose (due to the shape of the flower),  Provence rose and Rose de Mai. This is an old hybrid rose from the Netherlands, developed in the 17th century or even earlier. Centifolia rose is commercially grown and harvested in Grasse for rose oil production.

Vetiver

Vetiver is a perennial grass with a vertically- spreading root system that grows about 2-4 meters downward (this characteristic makes vetiver a great erosion control plant in warm climates). It's a relative to Palmarosa and Lemon grass, originated in India, but is also cultivated in tropical climates worldwide. The fragrant oil is distilled from its roots.

Iris

Precious iris butter is produced from iris root, or more precisely, rhizomes (dried and aged for several years, and then steam-distilled). Iris butter possesses a sweet violet-like odor; that is why  you might found "violet root" as an ingredient in some perfume descriptions.

Licorice

Licorice plant originated in southern Europe and Asia. The name of licorice means "sweet root" in ancient Greek.

Licorice root is the source for aromatic sweet fragrance and flavor. The root (boiled to get licorice extract) is traded in solid and syrup form, and used for medicinal purposes and in culinary creations.
Birch

The note of birch is used in perfumery for a smoky leather effect. You can find it in

Armani Prive Cologne Spray Cuir Amethyste, Aoud Cuir d’Arabie by Montale, Comme des Garcons Series 3 Incense: Zagorsk, Chanel Cuir de Russie, Cuir de Russie - Creed.

Fragrantica is thankful to Tanja Bochnig for the wonderful experience and this give-away

Congratulations to the winners!=)

The test was difficult... I answered one question wrong: instead of birch I said pine because wood tars (which are composed by pitch or resin, from pine) are used for leather effect too.

I hope you keep doing these tests... they are so fun and most of all give all of us a chance to learn more about perfumes!=)
