What it is to be a woman... such a hard question! There must be as many opinions on what it is to be a woman as there are women. We come in all shapes and characters...
To me, it's to look quite a bit softer than I actually am, to have the privilege to cry when I'm sad, to smell like the sweetest of flowers when I feel like it, to get to wear high heels and bright colours as much as I like, but also to have to face a world of prejudice around how I should and shouldn't be. Just like men must, I guess :-)

A human being. A woman may be nurturing and loving or not (just as any man). A woman can be intellectual or not (just as any man). A woman can be defiant or not (just as any man). I hope that whoever she is, she dares to break the societal mold and be, most of all, herself.

Being a woman is something I've thought a lot about. Is it just being feminine, or is there more? Now that I've grown and experienced life I can comment a little more on the nature of womanhood.

No one is completely one gender or the other, but people will eventually choose a side. A woman is someone who decides to take the feminine nature in their soul and nurture it to it's potential. They are soft around the edges but never weak, they are caring but never bowled over, they are beautiful but never vain.

A woman is someone who decides to enact on the feminine portion of themselves and never second guesses themselves. A real woman is someone who in confident in all their decisions.

A woman is someone who in the face of all of history's male oppression and tyranny, refuses to accept the harsh conditions and struggles and tries to live as freely as the clouds. A woman is someone who when sees someone hurt, whether a criminal or child, will hold them in her arms and take some of their pain. A woman is someone who in the presence of something ugly and deppressing, will not succumb to the depravity but will remain steadfast, elegant, and beautiful. Men may be strong and courageous, but nobody, not even life, can live without women.

I was wondering about this very question while I was mowing the grass yesterday. What is there about me that makes me "one of the girls," but sufficiently unlike "one of the boys?" I found the question to be more difficult than I had thought at first. Nearly every quality I can come up with can be found in men as well as in women. The single experience I have found to be universal in women is having to learn ridiculous amounts of self-control at a young age, and then spending the rest of one's life trying to deal with it. Having to balance what one's society values in a woman with what she really is as a human being is the defining process in a woman's life.

Words that come to me when I think about the question include "responsibility" and "strength" and "connectedness".
Being a woman is chocolatey, curvy, freeing, heavy, joyful, mysterious. It is full of endless possibilities and limitless emotion.
It means having the choice to be strong and stoic or to break down and cry. It means being unsure that what one is doing is the right thing, but being courageous enough to go with it.
On a more practical level, being a woman means paying good money for a haircut and not feeling guilty about it (much), getting a pedicure as a treat for losing 10 pounds and thinking that there is nothing weird about ordering a Diet Coke with fat-laden french fries. Being a woman is a responsibility which is not within the reach of one man. To be strong even when you think it will be successful, to be positive in the most difficult moments, to love and forgive, to take care of his family and to their support. Being a woman is difficult, but fascinating. I like a woman!

You could be the most beautiful woman in the world but if your soul, feelings, and intentions aren’t good then all that beauty won’t matter. Being a woman doesn’t mean being the most popular, trying to get noticed, or doing things just to get a reaction. Being and feeling like a woman comes naturally within; it’s not something that can be faked. True beauty, grace, and intentions comes within, and it’s not something that can be painted on your face using make up or by putting on elegant clothing. Make up, clothes, shoes, and perfume are used to enhance a woman’s body and profile but are not used to make a woman who she is. Living life, experience, trials and tribulations is what makes a woman who she is. When a woman can be naked and comfortable in her own skin, a glow and a twinkle in a woman’s eye emerges that can be visible 100 miles away. When you’re next to a woman like this you will feel it because she radiates positive glowing energy that shoots up and hits you like a breeze of a favorite perfume gracing the tip of your nose. I believe there are several stages most women go through in order to shape the woman they will eventually become. This is the order and journey I went through. It's different for every woman but for me, this is how it happened.

The first stage is observing your mother doing anything from cooking, cleaning, putting on makeup, or just her gestures and mannerisms she does while talking to one of her friends. The first time you get hurt and your mommy makes it all better with a tender kiss on your cheek. The first time your mother lets you do a task all by yourself. The first time she gives you advice or makes you feel good about yourself at a time when you doubt yourself.

The second stage is when you first fall in love. That feeling the boy gives you when he looks at you with those puppy dog eyes like you’re the only girl for him. When he first gives you a gift on Valentine’s Day or when you go on your first date. The feeling a girl gets when her stomach is full of butterflies and she’s so nervous she can’t contain herself. I remember the first time I had those butterflies, and the first time I felt like I was the prettiest girl in my classroom. It was on Valentine’s Day; I was 11 and there was a delivery of flowers, candy, and a stuffed animal (a puppy holding a heart) for me! How special I felt on that day. I was in cloud nine thinking to myself “wow, this is for me?” it was the first time a boy made me feel special. The card read: “would you be my valentine?” “I think you’re so pretty and I would like for you to be my girlfriend” I still have that card somewhere in a bag along with letters and pictures of my youth. The boy that sent me that beautiful gesture was a boy I never looked at twice. However, from that day forward, I looked at him in a new light. He ended up being my boyfriend for 4 years. When we turned 15 it was over; not bad for a couple of young kids.

The third stage is when you first lose your virginity. If you’re lucky, it’s with someone special, someone you love; maybe a little awkwardness or nerves radiating all over your body but in general a feeling of love, passion, and excitement. The butterflies are still there but now there’s a new feeling. A feeling of a deep connection you share with the boy you gave yourself too.

The fourth stage is feeling of independence and a more prominent feeling of responsibility. It might be as simple as acquiring your license, attending college and/or moving out of your parent’s home. It could also be turning 21, which is the legal age when you can drink here in the U.S. You might not be a drinker but the fact that you can walk in to a store or bar and buy a drink for yourself means you’re grown and yet another thing you could do for yourself that you couldn’t do before.

The fifth stage is a commitment you give to another man or woman in the form of marriage. A commitment and a bond of uniting yourself with the one you love and going the extra step with that person in order to connect your souls even closer. The first time you buy a house together, which might be a nice complete house or a fixer upper that needs work In order to make it your own. The first time you sleep in bed and wake up together as husband and wife. Or the first time you go on vacation and maybe had a little too much to drink but end up having the best sex of your life with your new husband. The feeling a woman gets when she’s lying in bed with her man so close together she can hear his heart beat, and the feeling that goes through her body knowing the man she loves will do anything to make her happy and anything to protect her.

Finally the sixth stage is when you find out together that the love you were making created a beautiful baby boy or girl. The 9 months a woman goes through carrying her baby with her everywhere she goes. There’s a new feeling of protection and love you feel from one another. You felt this before but it’s stronger now because your parent instincts are kicking in. Now you have another person you would give your life too. For me, the first time I truly felt like a complete woman was when I had my child, but even more so when I put that child’s needs first than mine. I grew up a little bit spoiled and I will admit a bit selfish. The moment I put my selfish ways aside and a new higher level of nourishing and caring feelings went through me. That’s when I knew I had become complete; I became a woman.

Being a woman means to have the ability to both thrill and be patient,love and hate,be the best lover and also the best mother for your children.It means intelligence, courage and faith.A woman must know how and when to seduce,as well how to look innocent and sweet.A woman must preserve her feminity even in her late years in order to give her little girls an example of how one should live their life.

For me womanity is equal with warmth, care, concern for others, respect for their feelings and needs. A woman needs to be sensitive and attentive. The smell matters a lot. In my opinion, a woman should always smell in a pleasant way.

Apartment woman is amazing. Every woman has in himself lucky, beauty, sensuality, love, tenderness, arrogance, domination, hardness, temperament, joy, sadness. It is for all of us, what we allow to stand out. And even if a lot of women in the world, you're so like me there is no other.

Being a woman brings with it, for me at least, a certain sense of spirituality. Not in an organized religion way, but in a more organic, cosmic sort of way.

It means having the choice to be strong and stoic or to break down and cry and not having anyone question me for doing either. It means being unsure that what I am doing is the right thing, but being courageous enough to go with my gut.

It means so many things, To feel every emotion times 100. To have a menstral period and all the joys that come with it. To be a woman means you are beautiful, loving, caring, and obviously responsible or men would be bearing children. To be a woman means everything. I wouldn't change or trade it for anything... Go woman!

Being a woman is being a human, only with more layers of urgency...

Being a woman is walking a woman's walk, whether you have hundreds of shoes, or none at all.

To be a woman means that you have to learn continously how to make yourself loved and how to keep a thing that you don't know if you ever had it, to be mean otherwise you would be boring, to smile gentle when your heart or your soul are about to disintegrate, to paint your face over the pain and to make it charismatic, to talk and to listen the others when you would prefer to be small and to hide yourself.

What it means to be a woman. Let's see it for one feels great to be a woman today. Now a days women are free to persue so many opportunities that were not open to women who lived many years ago. I love the idea as a woman I can be feminine and still be strong at the same time without feeling I'm not supposed to. Also all the lovely fragrances and clothes we get to try is certainly a big plus. All in all I love being a woman today,and I am grateful to be a woman.

Being a woman means having the strength to be who ever you want to be. To be sexy, empowered, intelligent, well spoken, all while being able to be tender and compassionate.

To be a woman is to be strong. Whether in the face of adversity, or emotionally, or physically, it's about holding that strength. It's about giving life, creating life, and making life worthwhile. It's loving family, friends, and the people surrounding us and hoping that we do everything we can by them.

For me, being a woman means staying true to myself, no matter what happens. *knows when to hug, when to listen, when to be humble, when to be strong, when to be gentle, when to put her foot down, when to laugh, when to cry, when the best sales are on & the location of the nearest clean loo & cafe

Being a woman is a very hard work. It means to be a girlfriend, wife, mother. To be very close and imminent, but different every time. And it's really a challenge to create Womanity perfume!

I don't think there's a way to pin down what being a woman is -- we're too diverse. And no one scent encompasses "womanity."

That said, I'd still like to win one of these and see if Thierry Mugler can prove me wrong!

Being a woman to me means having the strength and just the right amount of empathy to withstand just about anything life throws at you. They are in tune with everything around them and they give their heart and soul to everything they do. They aren't afraid to go to Vietman in the middle of a war and stand up for what they believe in even if it isn't the most popular thing to do at that time (Jane Fonda), they aren't afraid to back their man up 100% for equality and peace when the going gets tough (Coretta Scott King), they aren't afraid to dream big put their thoughts down to paper and write one of the greatest love stories of all time (Jane Austen), they take all of what they've learned and push it to the max to break down barriers and become successful in their own right (Hanae Mori), they aren't afraid to push themselves out of their comfort zone and at the same time push others out of the norm and shock people (Madonna) and they certainly aren't afraid to go against the grain of things to give people more variety (Rita Hayworth).

Women come in all different shapes, sizes and color but one thing remains the same. With the purest of heart women stand up for what they feel is right and they always do it with the purest of emotions and always with love :)

We should embrace all these marvelous attitudes and sides regardless if we have our hair done or our make up on or maybe we are caring and extra twenty pounds. We are truly beautiful! So when you act beautiful you will feel beautiful. I think scent is one of the strongest enticer of emotions and feelings. It can make you feel wonderful, youthful, pissed (if it drydowns to a stink bomb) and sexy! It is one of the joys of being a women and being able to define your moods through scent and express it to the others.
