Yachtsman Fragrances is an American perfume house debuting in 2010 with four fragrances: CABO, TOBAGO, ZANZIBAR, HOME PORT. Five more perfumes are to be launched this and next year (2011).
The house was founded by the avid sailor and perfumer John Verde. The idea was born in 1995, but it took 15 years of explorations and passionate work before he was confident enough to say that his fragrances were ready for the public.

Cabo is a delicious blend of citrus fruit juices above light woody notes. Sweet citruses perform in an unusual way, giving an almost floral, very exotic impression. Melting into the softest woods hand in hand with airy notes of bamboo and the ocean, they make up a clean, soft and fresh aura.
Notes: Bamboo, Ocean, Tangerine, Clary Sage, Teakwood, Patchouli, and Cedar.
Tobago is an aromatic floral fragrance revealing a rain forest paradise on your skin. John introduces you to the Caribbean exotic flora: big bright petals with spicy tips, aromatic green jungle and earthy roots interlaced on the lowest level. Citruses in the top and rosemary in the heart work like an echo of the sea.
Notes: Mandarin, Tangerine, Lemon, Frangipini, Rosemary, Wisteria, Allspice, and base notes of Oak Moss, Vetiver, Tobacco and Ginger.
Zanzibar is a combination of very powerful ingredients such as cinnamon, nutmeg, woods, and resins, mixed with a light hand. The first blast of aromatic green freshness settles down quickly to a comfortable woody composition.
Notes: Lemongrass, Citrus, Jasmine, Cucumber, Vanilla, Clove, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Teak, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Balsam, and Patchouli.
Home Port is the most masculine composition of all I have described above. It's a classy fougere, cool and sharp, easy and safe, and like your Home Port, it cheers your senses with familiar notes after exotic adventure.
Notes: Lavender, Iris, Menthe, Citrus, Basil, Tobacco, Leather, Musk, and naturally, Oakmoss.

The best way to get to know a fragrance is to smell it. Fragrantica together with Yachtsman Fragrances organized this give-away for you. Twenty gift boxes with two 5 ml trial-size roll on bottles (of your choice) will find their owners on 17th of June. Good luck!

Egyptian Sun - Hot dry notes of the eternal baked sands: Cinnamon, cedar, vetiver and lemon. Lush green undernotes of the fertile Nile past: Crushed leaves accord, papyrus, clear waters; and a base reflecting the mysterious history and religion of this ancient land and culture: myrrh, incense, resins
Bali-exotic verdant, mysterious and green. It is an expatriot's fantasy to go to this exotic island paradise and stay forever. Its the island of 1000 gods. Filled with temples in stone and exotic woods. Teak, oud, cedar, mahogany and sandalwood. The foods are spicy and tropical-chili,curry,kiwi and coconut. I would open it with bamboo, pandanus, banana/plantain and Buddhas hands. Class is oriental gourmand. Durians are a no-no, stinky, yet delicious fruit.
My take on the new Yachtsman is inspired by my hometown Varna in Bulgaria which is at the west shore of the Black Sea. Here are the ingredients:
For the top notes:
Salt, seaweed, citrus and pepper- this impregnates the air in the costal area, the natural scent of the sea meeting spices from the local cuisine
Middle notes:
linden-the city actually smells like this from spring till midsummer
magnolia- it is a common decorative plant that exhales its scent in the outskirts of the busy city
Rose-the famous Bulgarian rose should be present to give the fragrance a body
morning dew-the cool touch of breezy nights
Base notes
Warm sand-the smell of summer at the beach
woods-they bring coolness in the hot days of August
musc-it stands for the human presence.
I saw we have here another take on the Black Sea theme revolving around a local ancient legend about sacrifice and freedom. Interesting idea.
Good luck to all participants:)
I can't believe I didn't think of this one immediately:
"Fremantle"
Fremantle is located in southern Western Australia and a popular and important destination for long-distance sailors. After the Australians had won the Americas Cup in 1983, Fremantle became the (temporary home of the cup). Fremantle is surrounded by white sandy beaches and is the cosmopolitan sister city to Perth (the capital). It would be a cool yet spicy/floral/woody fragrance, suitable for Summer.
To capture Fremantle, the following notes would be great:
Aquatic notes, lemon, pepper, boronia, sandalwood and pine, here's why:
Aquatic notes would help to convey the "Freo Doctor" - a south Westerly wind that cools the summer afternoons down.
Lemon because of its use in the many fish restaurants found in Fremantle.
Pepper because pepper trees abound.
Boronia - just a hint of it- (very precious)as inland from Fremantle is where the best boronia comes from.
Sandalwood also found inland.
Pine Norfolk Island pines grow along the foreshore.
This fragrance would be a great one- if I could find it I would wear it today! It captures the port of Fremantle.
My concept for a new fragrance is "Roaring Forties". The region between 40 degrees and 50 degrees South is known for its strong westerly winds. These winds were used by the tea clippers and spice ships in the 19th century as they travelled from Britain to the East Indies. As a child I sailed for 26 days (admittedly not on a yacht) from Southampton to Australia and experienced the power of this southern ocean. To capture the essence of these voyages, the notes would be:
Salt, tea, pepper, cardamom
Ambergris, Patchouli,sandalwood
It would be a crisp, spicy fragrance capturing the bracing salt laden wind of the roaring forties and the rich treasures of tea, spices and precious wood.
All of these notes geographically are located along the route taken by the early sailors and hearken back to a bygone age.
My fragrance idea is the best because it introduces a different area of the world: the far southern ocean and the vast stretches of water travelled by so many.
COSTA DEL SOL-ANDALUSIA SPAIN
Costa del Sol is bordered by miles of stunning beaches, exotic architecture and wonderful amenities.Palm trees and graphic white houses are the scenary of that magnificent city. You can see your self transfered into a yacht sailing in the middle of a crystal sea. Lying down, tasting the salty breeze combined with orange, bergamot and many other fruits that are quenching your thirst.
As the hours are passing by waving through your sailboat, white lotus and colorful orchids overflow your soul with romance, while the golden sun is about to dive into the deep blue.
Notes:Orange,lemon
PInk pepper,lotus,orchid
Almond,cheery,bamboo
I was wrong, The contest ends in 24 hours. Everyone get busy!!!!
Jon
OK!!!! Everyone, we've got over 45 entries. we can read them and see that they are all very good. I'm glad It's not entirely up to me to choose the top 20. I couldn't do it. There is too many good ones.
Do you see my problem.
WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?
Let me give it some deep thought.
Jon Verde
For my selection I would choose: Oceania, the widespread area east of Indonesia, west of Hawaai and North of Austalia. If I had a yacht to sail around this area has many beautiful sights, smells and exotic locales and HUNDREDS of square miles of seas...
The scent will be composed of tropical greens(lemongrass, bamboo, green leaves)and a tropical rain accord (100+ in.of rainfall per year) in the topnotes with the rain accord lasting through to the heart; composed of a soft mix of fruits(kiwano melons, dragonfruit and cherimoyas)with hints of passionflower and hibbicus blooms kissed with a hint of spicy ambrette seeds and green sap; this will all end in a salty driftwood and majmua-esque incense smoke.
(Majmua incense smells very close to Hindu Grass by Nasamotto.)
I engineered the pyramid to reflect on a day in the tropics: The greens/rain accord for the wet dawn and morning, the mid-day hours for the heart notes and the evening/nite for a ceremonial bonfire after dark.
This could be unisex or add vetiver to the male edt and vanilla or coconut to the female edp. May kind winds ever fill your sails....
Tory island, Donegal, Ireland
...a tiny, magical place, remote and solitary, maybe even a bit lonely at times...and yet steeped in history and music and laughter when children roam freely in the emerald green grassy headlands...crackling of the fire in the evening...and the calling of seabirds...dolphins, seals and wild wind in the dunes...
The sea is rough and choppy and the granite cliffs are battered by the Atlantic into extraordinary shapes... Life is simple and wholesome...and the serenity and camaraderie are longstanding...
The fragrance should be fresh and unisex, composed perhaps of majestic cedarwood, marine (aquatic, salty) notes, green notes (maybe grass or vetiver or even some herbs), some white flowers and even touch of chamomile and honey...
This would make soft woods and subtle earthy sweetness, fresh ozonic, aquatic scent.
Only a couple more days left in the contest! You contestants have made this competition really close. All are good ideas, most are great! I am having more fun wit the contest than anyone.
Thanks to everyone

Ko Tapu, also known as the James Bond Island, the Phang Nga Bay, Thailand.
I’ve always been partial to Thai Islands and have chosen the one you can easily recognize on hundreds posters, leaflets, among most popular desktop wallpapers. Ko Tapu personifies quench for exotic adventures mixed with one of the most popular Hollywood theme. My plan would include the following:
Target audience: those who want to find themselves inside a bold dream, to feel/smell like James Bond or his girl-friend.
Message/Projection: it’s just important to start, once you’ve fulfilled one dream of yours, much more implementations are to come…
Composition: Top notes are medium dry vodka martini shaken, but not stirred; lime. :)
The heart includes English marigold and exotic Passion Flower, nutmeg, pepper, with forget-me-not and immortal nuances, supported by cold, spicy ginger.
Base notes are cedar, elemi, tobacco leaf, amber, musk.
Yachtsman Motto: it’s you who chooses a destination, yachting just gives you more freedom to decide what port you are landing at the very minute.
Personal P.S. To mentally return there whenever you need to, don’t forget to buy rare turquoise pearls or turquoise shells in the local pearl market (very happy that I did).
IBIZA
Everybody loves the spirit of this small Spanish island. The hippie style and the relaxed atmosphere. Everybody who once visited this magic island comes again, again and again to get the feeling!
It would be a bestseller!!!
Ionian islands
Kefalonia,Ithaka,corfu
Turquoise waters, sandy beaches, hospitality, isn't odd that even the legendary king of Ithaca Odysseus had his home in his heart even though he suffered a lot.Ionian islands stays in your heart and mind cause they are extraordinary beautiful.Hidden beaches in scenic coves can offer you the peacefulness and the feeling of isolation.
Mandarine orange,kumquat,chamomile,starfish,sea water,seaweed,olive,mint,origano,cypress.
Alicante
Once upon a time a sailor...
Once upon a time a Spanish sailor who dreams of the shores of his land...
Once upon a time a city by the Mediterranean sea. A city which has seen the centuries pass, and the civilizations print their steps in the sand. Iberians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs. All are gone but all stay.
The sailor thinks of the smells of that land while he sails other seas.
The salt on his skin mixes with the smell of orange and almond blossoms in his mind.
The taste of the fish is better when he adds some dill.
Seaweed on his hands is nothing compared to thyme and rosemary.
One day he will be back to his loved land. Alicante waits forever.
My choice is Viti Levu at Republic of Fiji Islands.
It has an interesting history of volcanic activity and being submerged several times in the past centuries. It also deserves recognition for particular plant and animal species that do not appear anywhere else in the globe.
The Viti Levu climate is changeable with one part of the island experiencing considerably more rain than the other.
Viti Levu is beautiful, changeable and myserious just like a woman :-)
and certainly with all the above in mind - the island would make a great inspiration for any potential perfume creator...
The perfume I would see with floral aquatic notes...refreshing... making you feel like you're in a real tropical paradise...
The endemic plants (those that cannot be found anywhere else on the globe) would add that unique touch to the perfume composition: Tagimaucia flower,Drautabua flower,Dendrobium prasinum orchid, Bulbophyllum phillipsianum or Cibicibi Cynometra falcata...plus the smell of ground soaked with tropical rain, the green twist of palm leaves and cane stems, and the freshness of crystal clear water... that is how I see Viti Levu fragrance...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
My perfume dream would be to capture the essence of this wonderful uplifting place. After the Tsunami it has recovered, and is back to its fishing roots.
The wonderful spices, the tea plantations further north, sandalwood, sea air, and not forgetting the lotus flowers in abundance.
Finally the national flower waterlily would all combine to make a fragrance that uplifts the soul.
This must be Nida, Lithuania.
Summertime. The smell of hot white sand...Pine trees...Resin...Salty wind playing in your hair and kissing your face...This could be heaven where you are happy...
Aegean Islands, Greece
Hundreds of island spread in the Aegean sea in Mediterranean, deep blue waters, white houses, a sunshine which seems eternal. Evening breeze smells of sea and salt, summer is felt in every breath you take, fresh tomatoes, fish, watermelons, melons, home made wine and anise.. that's Aegean Islands, the ultimate Mediterranean dream. Clean and breezey.
Notes would include: sea shells, lemon, water lily, anise, figs, grapes, a little watermelon, salt and may be some oregano..
Lake Ponchartrain, North of New Orleans.
Lush, tropical scents on the breeze ...citrus, frangipani, salty nuance from the gulf, a drift from the swamps.
~Malabar, the Western coast of Southern India~
The spices of this land lured the western world and they navigated for years to reach here. The coconut trees that seem to stretch to infinity, the tea estates with fresh fragrant leaves, monsoon in the air, jasmine and champaca blooms, cardamom and cashew plantations, sandalwood forests, very enchantating!
My fragrance has the notes of Jasmine, Champaca, Cardamom, Rum as top notes, with creamy Coconut, Masala Chai, rich roasted Almonds and Cashewnuts at the heart, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Benzoin and Resins as base notes and lots of captivating magic in every sniff!
I am sure that this one is very exotic, but the smell would take me a land far far away, that I still call home!
Name of Fragrance-Torrential Rain
Place- Southern Indian Ocean
I envision a scent that has water/sea notes, a fresh scent that is a strong stirring scent which leaves one with a feeling of tranquility.

Paris, France- Inspired by the "City of Romance"
You're a sailor that's setting sail in the Paris Basin for a French adventure. While you're there you want to experience the French culture, and you want to enjoy every aspect of Paris, a fabolous, amazing place where you can enjoy the food, the language, and the people. The place where love is magical and impossible is nothing, Paris is the city of romance.
The smells of the pâtisseries' baking in the lovely bakeries are making your mouth water as you walk down the street of Rue de Provence. The aromas of French vanilla, chocolat'(chocolate), and fraise'(strawberry) reminds you of being at home as your mom baked you cookies and brownies as a child. You can almost taste the French tarts because the aromas are so delightful.
You decide to take a little stroll through the Jardin Atlantique garden, so that you can smell the flowers. The garden is so colorful and the smells of the flowers are so divine and lovely. You stop to sniff the beautiful pink roses that were in the bushes. The scent of the roses are so inspiring, but at the same they're enchanting and alluring. You take a rose out of the bushes and sit on a bench to write down some of the scents that you were intrigued by in your notebook. As you stare at the Eiffel Tower, which is right across from you, you jot down all of the smells that you would like to use to create your own signature parfum'. You wrote down vanilla, chocolate, praline, and raspberry to represent the Gourmand notes; rose, jasmine, and cherry blossom for the Floral notes; and champagne, musk, and grapefruit for the Sophiscated notes . The created fragrance, Paris Amour, is absolutely MAGNIFIQUE and it is BRILLIANT! I really hope that I am 1 of the 20 chosen.
Notes: Praline, vanilla, raspberry, chocolate, rose, jasmine, champagne, musk, cherry blossom, grapefruit
Everyone is doing great. Choosing the top 20 entries will be hard.

Chania Oldtown Bay - Greece
Small charming bay next to old town on Crete - one of Greek islands. Most beautiful in the dusk and night, seem to be place where the Love was born...
This fragrance will be bitter-sweet aroma of warm night on Creete Bay. There would be lot of jasmin, honey, herbs such chamomile and sage, thyme, and a little red berries reminds of red wine aroma. Some woody notes in the base. Fragrance good for warm evening or sunny day. For vitality(herbs) but romantic one(jasmin and honey).Unisex for sure;)
Baltic Beaches.
Away, away from the warm soupy sea and tropical flowers! Toward the place that can show you what you're worth!
...if you've known the Baltic sea, you've known how to be on your own and how to enjoy yourself while being by yourself and alone with the sea. If you love the Baltic sea, you know how to love something that doesn't always love you back. The Baltic sea starts freezing in November, it can be cold even in the Summer, it can be greenish gray, splashing you with angry cold droplets as you try to break the waves. It can be plain intimidating. People complain about having to walk in for a long time through the shallow wake before being ready to swim, and by the time you're in deep enough, they say, you might as well go back. Can you persevere?
The Baltic sea is known for its soft seemingly endless dunes of fine soft sand of beautiful white or pale gold, and for its storms that rage the sea.
After the storm was over, as a little girl I came to the sea and walked the watery trace of where the waves hit the sand. Oh sadness of everything taken away from the sea now lying on the sand as if on some giant nature-hosted flea market! Not everything is pretty, not everything that's there you even want to see. But hey! what's that? and my hand circles around a piece of amber.
What a dream would it be for a perfumer to make a scent that sails through the image of the Baltic beaches, from the pines that grow on shore, to the cold sea, and finally arrive at the golden warmth of amber -- an unlikely gift for those who stay around.
Petra-Jordan
Art, Rock, Rose-Red, Magnificent, Greatness, Old, Wonderful, breathtaking, enjoyable, engineering, civilization and desert. Petra is a formula composed of the above.
i imagine Yachtsman to make a sensual, warm, relatively heavya classical yet modern, a peice of art that would be considered one of the perfume wonders like Perta is one of the seven wonders of the world ....
Yachtsman Fragrances .....
That if I would,
I would stand immortally at sea
Gazing for eternity at sea
The beauty struck sea
I’d set leave of quay
To immortally find way
Stand upon the ocean shore
Reverberating sea splashing at my feet
Shore washing sea, covering my feet
To close my eyes is to be at sea
This dream lasts all day to me
One day is like twenty years at sea
That if I would,
I would stand immortally at sea
Hoping for eternity at sea
COQUEIROS (Florianópolis - SC, BRAZIL)
Brazil is almost synonymous of nature, green, water, and in the past, the country was a supplier of gold too for the Europeans. I am grateful to live in a country so beautiful, poetic and inspiring. I have not had the opportunity to see the famous Amazon, but the first place that came in mind was Coqueiros.
Coqueiros is a neighborhood of an island called Florianópolis, and the name mean "coconut-trees" in portuguese. Florianópolis has about 100 beaches, each beach has its own peculiarities. Coqueiros, by name, seems to be a happy place, restless, but for me, is a calm, nostalgic and poetic place. The sea has no waves, and is FULL of giant rocks. It is even scary.
Then I read a short story about Coqueiros: "Witches, when colonized Florianópolis in 1750, were tired of wars in Europe, and decided to party! But they never called the devil to celebrate together, then one day, he turned them into rocks in the sea."
Well, Florianópolis has many beautiful beaches, but Coqueiros is so different, remarkable, and inspiring. I think that John Verde has great passion for nature, freedom, and the places of his perfumes inspired him. Inspirations that are associated with smell, memories, cultures, beliefs and feelings. All together makes the place special. That's what I see in the Yachtsman Fragrances.
The Coqueiros's fragrance would be oriental floral or oriental woody, something like that, with a mix of sea water, a lot of spices like cinnamon and pink pepper, resins and a little bit of sweets, because of the Halloween story of the place.
I really hope that the messages of this fragrances can reach people! For me, Yachtsman Fragrances are like postcards sent with much love and affection.
What a wonderful idea for a contest! Here is mine:
CASCO BAY, MAINE
Summers on the coast of Maine are a sharp contrast of cold, deep water and hot sun, of sparkling clear days and fogbound nights. Mostly there is the smell and movement of the ocean, evident in every breeze, and everything is affected by it; "down easters" live their lives according to the rhythms of the sea.
My family went to Maine almost every summer, and one day we decided to take a boat trip to one of the outer islands in Casco Bay. On the way out of the harbor I saw something I will never forget; a yacht as graceful and sleek as a clipper ship mas moored there, made entirely of fine wood with mahogany decks, everything polished and perfect. Her name was the North Star, and I fell in love at first sight. I will never know who she belonged too, but I have often imagined what it would be like to sail the seas with her.
I would call my Yachtsman perfume NORTH STAR, and it would be a tribute to the beauty of the old clipper ships, much as Jean Patou's classic woody oriental Normandie was an homage to a great ocean liner. North Star would have a base of real ambergris, oak moss and the finest woods, including mahogany of course, touched with just a hint of exotic spices to echo the faraway lands the old ships sailed to for their bounty; clove, cardamom, dry coriander. The heart would be rich with geranium, neroli, petitgrain and rose, but not just any rose; the spicy-sweet Rugosa "beach roses" would be the perfect choice. North Star would open with a bracing and energetic combination of aromatic basil, Mediterranean absinthe and real seaweed essence as well as tincture of seashells for a genuine mineral aroma of the sea.
Thank you for the opportunity to enter this contest, and I wish you the best of luck with the Yachtsman line of fragrances - what a great concept!
THE DOCKLANDS MELBOURNE VICTORIA AUSTRALIA
Yes this is yet another view into the many wonderous faces of Australia. Everyone knows the more popular tropical versions of Australian beaches and resort places but for a Victorian, such as me,I would have to add The Docklands.
This was the original Port in victoria. It was a harsh grey place with steel containers and rusted cargo ship filled with weary ,sea hardened sailors. The original Returned Veteran Sailors House, with its old english carved facade and cold wooden floors is still there. That was then.... now in the last 5 years it has flourished into a cosmopolitan community centre with the main strip of restaurants as its heart and soul. This walkway on the waters edge is filled with eateries and bars of all cusines, such as Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, Greek,Japanese and more. A true meltingpot of nationalities, sun and sea. It is flanked with modern high rise apartmnents, expensive yachts, cruises, shopping malls and promenades.
The air is filled with marine notes, topped with fruity cocktails, vanillery, oriental gourmands, and a hint of woody saltiness. You hear the laughter and the vibrant buzz of a new and exciting 'place to be seen'
Perfect for a 'city girl' like me....
John, I see you have the aromatic spicy, floral and fougeres covered. After just sailing myself a few months ago, and remembering what the sail boat smelled like, i'd like to see something that captures the spirit of sailing.
My experience last fall was in San Francisco bay, where we spent the afternoon adjusting the sail and lifting our beers. The mood was relaxed (until the end of the trip when the gusts of wind came in and the boated listed heavily to the side).
My memory is of well-worn wood baked by the sun, the faint smell of acrylic, brackish water mixed with seaweed and fresh ocean air.
My suggestion would be a dry unisex fragrance anchored by rosewood, cedar, and musk; middle notes of iris, heliotrope and greens (for a ‘cold’ feel; this is San Francisco!!); and top notes that compliment the overall mood. The mood of course would carry over to the marina for a hot cup of clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, while watching the famous sea lions at Pier 39!!
Since we are the edge of the wild west the overall fragrance experience would have to be carefree and liberating.
Elena & Zoran, I am truly in awe, with all the suggestions. Every suggestion made so far is fantastic!. Reading them has given me a really bad case of wonderlust.
How, on earth, are we going to pick the top 20 when they all are top's?
I'm glad it's only a week long contest.
Great work everyone and thanks.

Egypt marsa allam : one of the most magical places on earth.
undiscovered and breath taking.
wether its sunrise or sunset , it almost feels as if the sun came out from the middle of the sea and set off in the exact same spot. like a doorway in the middle of the water.
whenever i spent just 2 minutes looking at the view , all my emotiones run lose. like every possible feeling i had is coming to the surface , giving me the most incredible sense of life.
all yachtman fragrances are about freshness and creating an aura around us , well how about creating this aura inside of us ?
if the new yachtman fragrance is inspired by marsa allam in egypt , it would basically be as if with every spray of the perfume , we opened the doorway of the ocean and walked right through it.
this would be the aura we would feel inside out.
GOTLAND (sweden)
Gotland is my familys "summerdwelling". The slogan of Gotland is"a diffrent country". And it sure is.
seastacks , caves, sandy beaches, Ivy is the landscape flower, lavender, herbs & roses grow everywhere. Lamb and saffronpancake with bramble-jam
I even got married there on the beach
Warm salty air, tiny islands where you can be all by yourself and the ones you love.
notes: Top: salt, lavender, aquatic notes, bramble
Middle, rose and thyme & honey
base:Ivy, cashmere, saffron
KALIAKRA - a sea fortress into a long narrow peninsula that stretches it seems into eternity.. it is known for the legend of the 40 girls who tied their braids together and jumped into the sea - in order to avoid being enslaved by the Turks.. the coast on both sides of the peninsula is a steep cliff or red rock, cascading into clear and pristine water in all shades or blue-green.. would love to send you guys pictures.. but best - come visit, for it is a place where sea magic lurks in every wave, every tiny shell, every ancient stone. it is truly a place to fall in love with for life :))
i would imagine the perfume capturing both the strong and violet nature of the sea (you will know why the Black sea was named that if you have seen it but once during a storm) and the delicate trail of the maidens there..
google "Kaliakra" for more info and some really stunning pictures :))
Bora Bora - The Romantic Island
Under a one hour flight from the island of Tahiti or Moorea, the island of Bora Bora, with a lagoon resembling an artist's palette of blues and greens, is love at first sight.
Truly, the most romantic island in the world. From the dramatic scenery to the privacy and amenities of the overwater bungalows, everything in Bora Bora equals a 10 on the romance scale.
Enchantment from the neon-lit turquoise lagoon waters with unending days of exploration through snorkeling and diving.
Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin Orange,Olive flower, Lime (Linden) Blossom, Rose, Sandalwood, Martini, Sea Water, Sea shells, Apple
HONG KONG
I would love to add a picture, but I can't.
When visiting the worlds biggest Buddha statue, you first have to climb some long stairs. When reached the top, a gigantic Buddha greets you. Feel free to look around... A landscape shaped by green high hills, with a little chinese chapel placed between them and looking closer, between the trees, a hidden monestry. Then a breeze flows by, and fresh sea air fills your lungs... Because on the other side of the statue, a wide sea-landscape appears with little islands rising here and there from the water. When looked closely, you could see a variety of boats: cargo ships, sailing boats but also a little rowing boat with a local fisherman sitting in it, trying to catch the tastiest fish.
A calm but happy feeling fills you from the inside.
The fragrance would resemble the escape from the busy city, into the chinese nature surrounded by waters. Not something dark or heavy, but something breezy, though lightly spiced. It should give this ying-yang feeling where everything fits in place.
It would fit between the other fragrances, but would be an interesting one which doesn't dissapear between the other scents.
Typical asian notes like lotus, orchid, soybean, tea, sesame and a lot of other spices which I don't even know the name of remind me of Hong Kong.
I'd do a fragrance about my home-island Saaremaa in Estonia.
First thing that comes to my mind when thinking about Saaremaa is warm and quiet summernights when you can walk hand-in-hand with someone special. It doesn't matter if it's on the beach on the sunset when a little warm sea breeze runs through my hair or if it's walking in the woods looking for the fern blossom (we know they don't exist but it's like a little tradition of ours).
The notes for this fragrance would be juniper (one of the symbols of Saaremaa), pine, fern of course, birch, poppy, cornflower, daisy and sea water.
when it goes to port, i cant help but think of Singapore.
port of Singapore is ever busy since the moment it was 'discovered'. exotic and colorful. melting pot of people and cultures.
i think the smell of Singapore is of precious woods with a pinch of old world spices. and sweet tropical fruits as the top note. a hint of orchid or jasmine round up the accord, just a hint...
LOMBOK
A bountiful and fragrant tropical Indonesian island surrounded by idyllic beaches. The part of the island I am thinking of has a shoreline dominated by tall coconut palms along high cliff tops overlooking a protected bay where large yachts can moor.
Lombok inspires so much industry and creativity in its people both at sea and on land yet it is a place visitors come to unwind, relax, discover, regenerate and learn to live in the moment.
Suggested notes for Lombok perfume:
dragonfruit, pomelo, coconut water, coriander, chilli pepper, cassia, woody notes and incense
I have incorporated chilli in the proposed Lombok fragrance because apparently the meaning of LOMBOK is
hot chilli.
Norfolk - a small picturesque island in the Pacific Ocean, between Australia and New Zealand.
The island is covered in rich, evergreen pines, banana trees and smooth tree ferns. This fragrance will enrapture you with its tropical and exotic charm.
A land that was once inhabited by convict settlers, which are now the ghosts of the land, Norfolk Island is hauntingly beautiful. There is a sense of mystery that lies unspoken within its past.
On this island the air is fresh and salty. Livestock roam the land freely. People of Polynesian descent make up most of the population, bringing with them a sense of exotic life. This land is paradise.
Notes: Sea shells, Milk, Flax, Hibiscus, Banana, Forest fruits, Sea Water, Pink Pepper and Pine tree.
Goa india
It's so lovely...the sand, the beach, the sunset, the food, the people, and now with this fragrance sprinkled all over you..a perfect moment at a perfect place with a perfect scent....
Hearing the name "Goa" itself brings me a soothing kind of feeling down my spine...refreshing and a perfect destination to spend your vacation...
Just love the place n the perfume will add further to its beauty....have no definite reason....coz i don't have words to explain its effect on me...
just beautiful and always bring a smile on my lips to think of that place...
Mostly people dream about sailing to tropical islands, I´m no exception, but wouldn´t be a challenge to sail to one of the world´s most Northern ports?
Qaanaaq a port on the Northern part of Greenland.
Ice, enormous blue sky, land in grey, brown and pale green colours with glaciers in the distant.
Notes: Salty aquatic notes with see weed and peppermint, milky foggy notes mixed with soft aromatic and almost sweet greenery from Arctic herbs, flowers and dwarf birch. Basenot of soft smokey notes and musk from reindeer.
"Tasmania"
The ocean that separates the mainland of Australia from Tasmania is Bass Straight.
This stretch of open ocean is one of the most challenging stretches of water to host an international yacht race - the Australia Cup, traditionally starting on Boxing Day December 26.
The wind will always bite, the waves will always be unpredictable and upon completion of the voyage , the elation will be lifelong.
Legends are born in this race.
The fragrance would require lasting power, persistence is essential to survive. It should be redolent with leather, clove and caviar, that is, be a bit eccentric but not a show-off.
It must have subtlety because there is nothing to prove so a softer note of heliotrope, buddlea or pelargonium would suit with a hint of acacia wood to add interest. Finally the fragrance should have the disquieting bite of ozone to lift and exhilerate.
The coast of Gwadar: What is so magical about the place is its peaceful and tranquil atmosphere where when a sailor stops by can smell the rocks, wet sand and all the aquatic notes of the dancing waters in the air. It is so inspiring for him that he decides to stay there for a longer time for he has made in mind that he will preserve this fragrant air in a unique fragrance. He finds a small hut near by and decides to live there to work on his unique fragrance which is in his mind. On his second day, he takes a stroll to explore the place. He meets the locals, walk around tropical forest near by and he finds this place more exciting and very special. He is inspired with Gwadar and he wants his fragrance be special.
He starts to work with notes and decides to compose the heart the first as the aromatic air of Gwadar has stolen his heart. Everytime he composes notes and smells the air, he decides to make the notes more special and again sit down to think of some more magical notes. It's not easy for him to create something special and magical like the fragrant air he is in love with of this place. After a hard work of 12 weeks, the day comes when he is successful in composing all the three notes and that's the greatest day of his life because now he can go back to his home land with this evergreen memory of the enchanting air of Gwadar in his fragrance.
The notes he creates:Top notes with Dates, sea shells, lime, sand. Heart with honey, lilac and ginger. The base with sandalwood, sea water and resins.
I would love to be chosen among the winners as the notes of the Yachtsman Fragrances sound exciting to me and would love to try them.
Naheed
The Golden Gate Yacth Club (GGYC - San Francisco)
This scent would give honor to the team of the BMW Oracle, 33rd America's Cup winners.
GGYC was founded in 1939 with the first clubhouse built on a barge located in the SF Marina adjacent to the old stone lighthouse that still stands today (after severe damage from the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake).
BMW Oracle Racing and the Club share an ongoing goal to bring sailing to more young sailors by promoting the sport and the future of budding sailors.
The scent would captures the smell of the old stone lighthouse (cement & oakmoss), the clubroom (leather & wood notes) with oceanic notes.
Being San Francisco, it must have a cool feel, like the fog rolling into the bay and hints of dark Ghirardelli chocolate.
Byron Bay, Australia.
Australia has always been a mystery land to me, the land down under with free spirited people and a relaxed lifestyle. Byron Bay is the epitome of Aussie lifestyle. With the tropical rain forest on one side and deep blue Pacific on the other, it is the most enchanting place I have ever been!
When a Yachtsman anchors at Byron Bay and meets a girl he would smell the free spirit, the ocean, the tropics, flamboyance, off beat nature and warmth captured in her perfume that will haunt him through the rest of his sail trip!
From a chic girl's point of view Byron Bay is a place to relax on the beach, slathered with coconut-y sunscreen eyeing off the hot hunky surfers!
A walk in the town with sand in the thongs, a fresh blossom of frangipani in the beachy hair, smelling the incense from the alternative lifestyle shops, yoga sessions, a relaxing massage with exotic oils
Sipping cocktails at a beach side bar smelling the warm breeze of ocean, chatting up the outlandish backpackers, listening to their stories, salsa dancing.
Lying on the beach staring at the night sky, spotting the never seen before Southern Cross and Milky Way which lights up the entire night sky!
My scent has fresh jasmine, bergamont, water lilies, hibiscus with exotic frangipani, passion fruit and coconut balanced by cinnamon, cloves and warmth of vanilla, sandalwood and a hint of incense.
Chesapeake:
Inspired by the beautiful Chesapeake Bay
Rich red earth
dark enough to grow tobacco and cotton
touches briny marshland, home to fish and fowl,
then laps gently into waters of native peoples,
the Mattoponi and Pamunkey.
Rivers full of history, the York and the James, the Potomac
flow into the bay itself,
home of Smith and Tangier Islands.
The breeze is alive.
The surf smells sweet and salty
Pine and cedar trees watch over beaches and babies
Little pirates grow up combing beaches,
hoarding treasures of brittle shells and crab sheds.
They sail away eventually,
knowing secretly, that the best treasure will
allways be their home.
Notes: Magnolia, Pepper, Salt & Ocean, Tobacco & Earth, Cedar, Musk, Oakmoss
Turks and Caicos:
Imagine you're a Yachtsman that has been working at sea for a very long time without rest. Your boat was washed onto the beautiful island of Turks and Caicos, where the sky is blue and the sun is always shining. The beautiful, sparkling seas is filled with gentle dolphins jumping out of the water, and there's beautiful people with smiles on their faces as they enjoy their beautiful surroundings.
Turk and Caicos is located 550 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, just below the Bahamas and just to the east of Cuba and the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti.) The island has many bodies of water where you can set sail and enjoy the amazing waters. Turks and Caicos has 40 islands and cays where you can smell the crisp air, the aquatic and salty scent from the sea, and the magnificent scent of the palm trees. The climate ranges from 85 to 90 degrees in the summertime, creating heat throughout the island. The blazing sun's kissing your skin, and there's hot sand resting between your toes. Your skin is bronzed by the radiation of the sunlight, and the smell of Coppertone is in the air. You're being embraced by the beautiful people of the island, and they are giving you comfort as if you were royalty. Turks and Caicos is an amazing place.
At a little shop, there was a Bahamian woman mixing exotic oils, and creating fragrances to sell. The yachtsman walked around the little shop looking for that perfect scent that he knew he would love. He picked up one of the fragrances called "Turks and Caicos Romance" and took a wift of it. It was pure magic from the first sniff. The yachtsman loved it. The smell was so unique and amazing that he bought the oil and wore it to a dinner party that evening. The scent caught attention of alot of beautiful women, making him absolutely irresistible that night. Every woman wanted to dance with him, but there was only one that caught his eye. Her name was Garcella. She danced with him and kept sniffing his neck to smell the fragrance. The yachtsman was so overwhelmed by how much of an effect that the fragrance had on women. He then realized how much he really loved Turks and Caicos. That fragrance was absolute magic.
The fragrance is tropical, creamy, warm, and unique; composed of musk, sandalwood, lemon, vanilla with tropical hints of coconut, aquatic notes, mango, and pineapple. The notes of the fragrance is highly inspired by the Tropics of Turks and Caicos; the beaches, the sea, and the delicious fruits. It has a masculine and feminine edge, that is absolutely undescribable. Great for both men and women, these notes exhibits what paradise is, and it also represents Turks and Caicos well. The fragrance is mysterious, but leaves you wanting more. It is made for men and women that likes to feel seductive and beyond exotic. It is rich, warm, and comforting just like the beautiful island of Turks and Caicos, and like the other Yachtsman fragrances. The fragrance is paradise in a bottle, mixed with sunshine and happiness. The scent takes you to a different place and makes you feel like a whole different person, but better. The fragrance is unique and absolutely unforgettable. It made the yachtman feel superior and it made the women melt. "Turks and Caicos Romance" is extraordinary.
Notes: Coconut, mango, sandalwood, musk, aquatic notes, vanilla, lemon, and pineapple(oriental woody)
I think that my choice of a new
Yachtsman Fragrance is the best because Turks and Caicos is a place where you can escape from your everyday problems and enjoy the beautiful island essences. Yachtsman fragrances are fresh, beautiful, and inspiring just like the beautiful islands of Turks and Caicos. Turks and Caicos has beautiful beaches where you can lay in the sun, drink delicious coconut juice, and eat sweet fruits. Turks and Caicos is beyond paradise. It's a place where you can just relax and not worry about what's going to happen tomorrow. The sun's always shining and the sky's always blue in Turks and Caicos. "Turks and Caicos Romance" is the best choice for a Yachtsman Fragrance. It's unique and I'm absolutely proud of it.
I would really love to win this
giveaway. Yachtsman fragrance has fresh and interesting notes that I would love to experience. The fragrances are the epiphanies of freshness and lightness. Yachtsman Fragrances are very inspiring because of its connections with nature and with the Earth. I worked really hard to describe my vision of a new Yachtsman fragrance, and I hope everyone sees that. I would be grateful and happy if I were to be chosen. Thanks for the opportunity. I hope to see many more great fragrances in the line of Yachtsman fragrances
Hatteras. "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" has a surprisingly inviting scent because of the natural vegetation of the area. The sweet, spicy mix of pine, red cedar, and wax myrtle. The herby, slightly sugary fragrance of pennywort. The underlying freshness of ferns. And the warmth of the sun on sand and seashells.
Violent and unforgiving, warm and refreshing -- the two sides of Cape Hatteras.
Tonga. Turquoise waters, you can see to the bottom of the sea. Sitting and wondering the flourishing surroundings from a canoe which smells of exotic wood in the sunshine. Even the Pacific sea winds have a totally different scent; saltier and fresher than here by Baltic sea.
I've been working harder than I could even imagine for 2.5 months now, in order to achieve my dream about an education. June 17th happens to be the exciting exam day, so the timing would match per.fec.tly.
Luka Koper: A small port, entering into a small diverse country of Slovenia. When you enter through a narrow bay, you smell lemons and pines, together with the freshness of jasmin and bloomy lillies. You look in the distance and you see the mountains which bring the smell of woody forrest and clear spring waters. You close your eyes and smell the sandalwood and a dreamy innocent violets and daphodils. And suddenly, you feel the sensation of never ending fields and your soul opens to a calming benzoin which brings you into a fairy tale land.
Casablanca - Imagine you being a sailor, on the sea, seeing up ahead in the distance a great tower. You see this tower through a fog, a strange fog caused by the heat - the air flows in waves. Immediatley you know that there is the place you looked for. As closer you get, you start to feel a bouquet of aromas mixing each other. just like a chemistry solution made by a giant and invisible chemist who released it in the air to tickle the senses of the mortals from Earth. You realise that you are getting close to a new world, a fairy land where delicious spices are mixing with rare flowers of Maroc and the carefully chosen woods. You rise up the speed in order to reach faster the place that offers this blend of magic fragrances. When you touch the land you try to find the store that produces this smell but, sadly, you quickly realise that this is the smell of Casablanca.
Here are my thoughts about Casablanca:
Top: thyme, coriander, rosemary
Mid: neroli, jasmine, lavender, tea, mint, orange blossom
Base: myrrh, sandalwood, white musk, vetiver
I would really like to get these fragrances for either my father or my dear friend.
Guyana - Land of Many Waters
warm and spicy, this scent begins an intriguing mixture of cardonamon, bergamonte, orange and clove then drifts into a sophisticated blend of cinnamon, cedar and vanilla, finally mellowing into a dry drown of leather, musk and white amber.
This scent is rich and earthy, but at the same time manly and sophisticated.
I was inspired by Guyana - a relatively unknown country which is geographically part of South America but is culturally and historically tied to the Caribbean and West Indies.
It is known as the land of many waters because of its many rivers, creeks and waterfalls but these waters are murky, deep and at times lethal.
They are warm, mysteriously enticing and altogether entirely addictive.
