Martini is an alcoholic cocktail made with gin and vermouth, with an olive or a lemon twist. Martini is prepared by pouring all of its ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes, mixed, strained and served without ice in a chilled cocktail glass. This classic cocktail glass has a cone-shaped bowl placed upon a stem above a flat base. The olive or a strip of lemon peel are used as a garnish. Recipes similar to contemporary martini were first appeared in bartending guides of the late 19th century. During the 1970s and 80s, martini was regarded as an old-fashioned drink, but it recently came into fashion again, along with an explosion of its new versions.
