Oud Luban takes its inspiration from Theophile Gautier's Clarimonde, a story of extremes: austerity and opulence; sin and holiness; carnality and abstinence. Luban, the Urdu word for frankincense, means "the milk" which refers to the color of the finest quality frankincense – the milky tree sap that exudes from the cut bark. Oud, the dark, resinous and infected Aquilaria heartwood, is the most expensive essence in the world. To create the desired oud notes, eight different varieties are blended. Oud Luban was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Mandy Aftel.

Smells like nasty sharp birch tar plastic in a lard base. Really horrid on me. Some of her other scents are fabulous, though, so this might be a chemistry issue. Worth a try for those who can wear bitter, dark woody scents.
