At the end of the nineteen sixty’s, the wind of change blows across the world, as young people rise against all of the previous generations rules. Music changes, habits change, fashion changes. The young generation, starting from the U.S.A and England, embrace oriental philosophies looking for a simpler more natural life style, less chaotic and stressed than that of western civilisation.
This new style of living is also reflected in perfume. Young people no longer want the sophisticated fragrances worn by their parents, but embrace the simple ones whose roots lie in the oriental culture. The hippie’s and the flower children buy the fashionable essential oils, and in 1969 Alyssa Ashley launch their first product, Musk Oil by Alyssa Ashley. Musk Oil was presented in a small heart shaped bottle, and over the years a complete line was developed including Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and a collection of body care products.
The success of MUSK is due to its very special formulation, which blends over one hundred of the world's finest ingredients to create the warm, sexy fragrance we know and love.
Alyssa Ashley Musk is of course a unisex fragrance, and nowhere is this emphasized stronger than on the contemporary packaging. Strong gloss black symbolizes the male aspect and bright soft white the feminine, they are bonded together by a fine line of gold and easily recognized by Ashley's distinctive gender symbols. The intertwined male and female logo is recognized and revered all over the world.
The spirit of Alyssa Ashley Musk is captured by a sexy shot, showing a couple who is clearly having fun. The intimacy is clear for all to see, the situation is obviously “Dangerous but fun”

I had a bad experience with this one. I work at a jewlry/perfume counter and someone dropped a bottle on the floor. I picked it up not realizing tthe bottle was damaged and it somehow sprayed UP my skirt! Not only do I not like the scent--to me it smells of crazy-old-bag-lady and cat pee--my mom almost gagged when I got into her car. She almost made me walk home cause she said she couldnt breathe lol.
After twice washing my skirt, the smell still lingers. I dont think I would have hated it so much for that incident but, you know, now Im scarred for life. Definately not one of your finer fragrances.
I too, wore this as a teen, and noticed it recently in a drug store, many years later. Immediately, I bought the oil. The spray was not appealing to me at all. I could not wait to get it out of the package and give it a try. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it! The oil slowly released a soft, pretty & unoffending fragrance over the next 5 hours. Unlike a spray that starts out strong and begins fading, this oil seemed to blossom. I agree that it is reminiscent of Chanel no 5.
I had this in my teens - along with the Body Shop's White Musk, pretty much a staple in the majority of 70's and 80's teen perfume wardrobe!
I loved Alyssa Ashley's Musk so much that I recently bought another bottle to transport me back to those days but it has changed, and not for the better. I can't put my finger on it but whatever it is, it's disappointing.
It smells like a hot bath to me. Nice for people who want a fresh scent, without any sweet notes.
Longevity is not very good, it lasted about 4 hours on me, sillage is pretty low.
A pretty inoffensive and nice scent, but nothing to spend a lot of money on.
Is it " Me " or does this smell JUST like Chanel *5 ? I think so, but much, MUCH more affordable...
I am going crazy!! Finally I see a date of 1969 of when this was created! I have been wearing this forever, and the latest bottle I bought doesn't smell like it used to at all! I hate it! So many listing say this was created in 1992! Was it changed then? I used to be able to just spray it all over me and never be overwhelming! Everyone used to compliment me all the time about how good I smell! I work at an elementary school and the kids always loved it and knew I was around when they would smell it! But this latest bottle I bought is horrid! I want the old smell back! Where can I get it? Does anyone agree that it just doesn't smell like it used to? Years ago our Meijer store had it all on clearance so I bought it up. That is what I have finally run out of and I need it! Am I crazy or did the fragrance really change? I want my Alyssa Ashley Houbigant Musk!!!!!
I started using this musk when I was in my teens, that was quite awhile back. But Alyssa Ashley Musk is still my favorite. It is different from any other musk that I have ever smelled. Its not that in you face kind of fragrance that alot of other musks are. Its soft, feminine, and drys down to a soft powdery sexy scent that lingers. It doesn't overwhelm but it stays. If you can find the lotion and oil it makes a great combo to layer the fragrance. This is one of my all time favorite perfumes that I still wear even after all this time.
update: its very diluted and could only smell the alcohl
I was a little girl when I first heard of "musk", and I can remember my grandfather saying he hated it and that it smelled dirty. I also heard people talking about it because I think it was big at the time, and they often said the same thing. I then smelled Bonne Bell Skin at a Sears store, and I thought "Wow! This is what everyone is hating?" I loved it. I eventually acquired a bottle, and I always have a bottle in my house. I loved it then; I love it to this day. I also love Alyssa Ashley Musk, although it is different than Skin. Skin is warmer and sweeter, and AA is more spicy, floral, powdery, and clean. I love it. It smells really pretty, and I can spray it and my whole family will ask what smells so good. I am anxious now to try the Avon Soft Musk after reading about it here.
This is a nice musk. It is soft and does last awhile. Out of the 4 mainstream musks you can pretty much find anywhere: Coty Wild Musk, Alyssa Ashley Musk, Skin Musk and Jovan Musk, Alyssa Ashley's is the "greenest" as the oakmoss is pretty evident. I like my musks a little woodsier, but this is still okay if you are looking for a musk with a little greenery to it. Nice drydown.
i wear avon's soft musk because i do like the softness of it, jovan is a more oily variety of musk. but then, you have this one and this is the spicy version of musk. very nice, clean and long lasting. imo these 3 are the best basic musks out there.
smells like baby powder. so pure and innocent. i don't know what type of man who want to wear this. as a man, personally i will not wear this in public. maybe just wear this in my room and remembering childhood times.
This was created the same year I was 1969! I went back to the CVS near me and got a half ounce of the perfumed oil. I really enjoy this...
This begins with a very "vintage" feel to me, and is somewhat linear (so far anyway); but is rather comfy and a tad "perfumey", no doubt from the aldehydes! It has a bitter citrus and dry floral feel, at first, and the heart florals (in the oil at least) are quite muted and thoroughly blended. I can sense the violet's powderiness and some cool iris, and the others are not so noticeable. There is a kinda of flowery aura to this, but the musk is very clean and sort of sweet on me. Amber is there as well; and perhaps some oakmoss, but there is by no means a heavy amount of anything. This has a slightly feminine air, but not so much that a man could not make it work. Tonka adds a subtle warmth and this is very much (as someone below noticed) a comfort scent. It reminds me of older perfumes in the way it feels and the way it smells, but is not an "old" scent at all! Just great for lounging around the house or adding a few drops before bed...some may even find it "date" worthy.
Sillage: good
Longevity: above average
Overall: 3.25/5
Very interesting, not the typical 60s scent; and not exactly modern either. More of a vintage born too late or a very mature new release. Musky, for sure, but clean, sweetly smooth and a tad flowery...I like!!
@ guest_Vera: CVS drugstores carry the perfume oil for 13.99. If there is not one near you, check online. Loved your review BTW!
I have to agree with MellyHelly on this one this perfume is just pure plastic. I can't believe I spent $ on this!! I wouldn't even accept this for free at this point. I am a true musk fan believe me and I much perfer something like Avon Soft Musk to this hands down! So creamy and sexy compared to this so-called Musk. From a true musk lover like me ladies believe me there is waaay better out there.
I use the oil, and it stays rich and embracing throughout the day. I smell really, really good in this one. The cologne, doesn't work so well with my body chemistry and does smell synthetic. Try the oil and the lotion. Soft, warm and hugable.
an x-fiance gave me A.A. colonge over 30 yrs ago. to this day I only wear A.A.musk. Just recieved shipment from fragrencenet.com. I spray my hair. friends and strangers have complemened that I allways smell good.
This is the muskiest musky scent I've smelled!!! But where's Alyssa Ashley's Coco Vanilla in the database? I have that one, and much prefer it to this one. Not for me.
Only one word: childhood. If there is a new edition of this fragrance it should be subtitled as Childhood.
It reminds me irresistibly of my father; he used to put on his neck a bit of Alyssa Ashley Musk lotion from a gigantic white bottle every morning almost as an aftershave. He has always been very neat and pedantic about his looks, very smooth and quite a womanizer. Although I now despise that type of men and am not close to my father, that scent always makes me float on a safe, mild mist of the happiest days from my childhood. Not many scents can evoke so many memories, the memories you would've else way forgotten.
Some seven years ago, when I was still in high school, I run into AA Musk unisex cologne and was overwhelmed with happiness. I was quite sure the production of it was cut ages ago and had quite a surprise to find it somewhere. I used to wear it and didn't feel too young for it at all. As a matter of fact, my perception of Musk is a very babylike, milky, powderish scent, completely non-defined by certain age or sex or the consumer. I kept it like a treasure and used it only when I needed some special confort, just in order to save it longer. Unfortunately, what happened after some time - it corrupted and turned only into some bad alcohol flavor. Have never found it again.
Sorry, I have to disagree with previous reviewers. I can't stand this one. It smells like plastic and old hairspray with a fecal edge, lighter than Kiehl's Musk Oil, but still there.
It's so synthetical and disturbing, I can't see anything sexy in it.
I recently bought a bottle of the oil version for little price to give a friend of mine who likes it a lot. She started spraying and once in her car I was going to faint!
While digging through my bathroom closet, a golden cap caught the light, a bottle turned on its side amid a plethora of shampoos and towels. Upon plucking it from the mess, I gasped. Though I had forgotten about it for years, I know this fragrance very well.
A very dear friend of mine wore this scent; it was her signature. This friend was very close to me and my family, and when she passed away it took us all by surprise. It's been over a decade since then, but one sniff took me back in time.
This is, as its name implies, musk. It is feminine and soft, not harsh or heady. It's a woman's musk - a young girl probably couldn't pull it off. Sillage is great, lasting power is fabulous... the scent will last for hours and hours on one's skin, sillage decreasing with time. This is an intimate, beautiful musk.
Perhaps this is a "sexy" scent, something for a bombshell to wear on a date, or a voluptuous night-appropriate affair. But to me, Alyssa Ashley Musk will always remind me of my childhood, running around the yard on chilly evenings, blowing bubbles and playing with beanie babies. And it will always remind me of my dear friend, so it is intensely personal to me and I'm not sure if I could wear it.
All things considered, this is an incredibly beautiful and, in my opinion, ELEGANT musk perfume. It will always be close to my heart.
I should admit that Alyssa Ashley Musk (especially Eau de Toilette version) is one of the best musks I encountered on the market. It is very fresh and soft scent that stays close to the skin. Along with the musk, I can get a mild rose note, which brings certain elegancy. The dry down is soft powdery and is really very sexy. And the lasting power is quite decent. I highly recommend this one to all musk lovers!
