Amouage or Amouage Gold is the first fragrance of Amouage. It was created by Guy Robert 1983. This is an intensive floral for evening wearing and special occasions.
The top notes blend wild rose, lily-of-the-valley and silver frankincense. The heart notes include myrrh, orris and jasmine. The oriental base is of ambergris, civet, musk, cedarwood and sandalwood.
The luxurious bottle is reminiscent of the Palace Ruwi Mosque which is made from 24% French lead crystal adorned with 24 carat gold plated decoration.

This is absolutely perfect! I did not want to try it cause some said its for older women, so i thought it may smell oldie, but no no this absoultely magnificent scent! My top one, thank god for arabs cause their parfums are liberTed from moss scents and they make it so nice that i dont get headache. This is the best parfume by far! No vanila no sweet stuff that gives headache , just perfect fresh flowers so nicely balanced but with silage and strength, its noticable but i cant imagine a person who would not like it:-)
YES!! now i have it!!it's Fantastic
Omg no no no no.. What was I thinking sampling this today?..
I certainly don't have the age or class or courage to pull this one off. I tried to wear it because It's my 27th birthday, but apperently I'm still too young.
What I don't like about it the most is the overdose of Jasmine, it nearly puts me on an edge of gagging for several hours already.
Beautiful creation, Only I don't have the balls for it yet. So, for now I'll steal a sniff or two from the cap from time to time..
After sampling Gold, I realized that I had bought the wrong Amouage (Dia) for my skintype. Whereas Dia on me is a full-blown aldehydic fragrance, Gold is a floral oriental: sweet, buttery, incensey and warm. I find Dia to be too light, cool, clean and soapy, and unfortunately not doing wonders on my skin. Gold on the other hand is very much present, sweet, intoxicating and warm. Like others before me have said, a little goes a long way, do not use a lot. I am testing this in warm weather, and it still is lovely. It really shines, like big spotlights. This fragrance is really high quality.
this is oscar night perfume and yes it isnt for young women or coquettes, only wear this if you are a queen and can command a room like one, eg if i were to go to maddonas screening id quietly wear this, or maybe i wouldnt i have not made up my mind to go i might do something evil like wear gold and ck at the same time that would mess some heads up, yr right about the saudi overblown part and the price point being retarded and i like spendy perfumes, and can afford them for the most part but you are wrong about relationship to chanel 5 it has naught to do with that tawdry common overmarketed fragrance i do not see it , over 35 indeed if i smelled this on a 20 something id think she was possibly mentally ill, bit=uty on a the right regal and earned bearing, this is well made, eg id play a show in it. x c
This is opulent and intense in the EDP form. At the opening it WOWS you with
the blast of super-strength sheer fragrance, but within minutes I had recoiled
from the blast of oriental, cloying, slightly rancid, all-pervading incense.
I truly don't think it suits the Northern hemisphere, or certainly not during the day.
I was so excited trying this one. After years I found it in the Amsterdam Shiphol airport. I was nearly running to it with excitement. Sprayed it on and yes! So much of beautiful complexity. Fine oriental ornaments being revealed one after another and this beauty lasted for about an hour and half. I was so happy I found it but than after the 1 and half hour of something very special and extraordinary it became quite sourish and not really even pretty and it became almost like the drydown of Caleche EdP by Hermes, which is by no means my favorite. But the one and half hour was a fairytale...
A powerful, magnificent mixture, very heady and warm, long-lasting, one of my absolute favourites, but eye-warteringly expensive.
Given the price and rave reviews, I was very excited to try this one. In the end... I like it. No raves. It is indeed very classic, elegant, warm & rich; a bouquet of flowers (the rose doesn't really stand out to me) with a subtle musk or myrrh background. I only applied a small amount and I am not finding it overwhelming at all - no sneezing, no headache, both of which I do get with Chanel No.5, so it may be similar but the aldehydes must have a lighter touch. A little too classic to be really interesting for me, but pleasant enough.
Rich, opulent floral with lots of class. Not to be worn by the faint of heart. Should be worn with head held high, with self-assurance, royalty-like. There's a little princess in every woman being the special creatures that they are. This fragrance seems to salute the special place women of all races hold in the hearts of all who love them.
Reminds me of Chanel No 5, L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci and Arpege by Lanvin. Would normally wear in the evening or special occasions but I'm feeling kinda special today. Thank heaven I can't detect the civet.
Like a hundred 89 yr ole ladies going out to lunch drenched in their fave perfumes (white diamonds, chanel 5,red door, opium, arpege, shalimar, vanderbilt etc).
Smelt like it had gone rancid - could not wait to wash it off my arm - though it did wait for the dry down - again - ole lady
At the first sniff I feel the clean freshness. The opening is very intensive, rich incensed rose.I know I felt this smell somewhere.
The sillage is amazing. The drydown is very earthy, soapy with a hint of musk. This is a "Perfum for womens with personality". Very characteric, mature fragrance.I think it's a bit overpriced, I'm very lucky I could buy my bottle very cheap.
Update:After long thinking I know finally where I met with this scent:) Revlon Charlie the answer.:)
Long lasting, intense and mysterious. I have to be in the mood for this, but when I am, it feels very good and sexy. Very deep and warm smell.
Recommended for: Fall/Winter.
Lasts on my skin: 6 hours.
8/10
A very nice warm and golden scent. It's akin to 'First' initially as a floral alhehyde but has an underlying warmth and complexity which makes it more interesting and wearable. I definately could imagine a Queen wearing this stuff. It's highly unlikely that I'll ever own a bottle but it's a privilege to have a sample! This is like a modern 'Joy' and is, indeed more joyous.
the spectrum of reviews and reactions points out that we react individually to perfumes and what may smell gorgeous on one body may smell rather common on another. i dare anyone to find me a perfume that is loved by everyone. not possible.
Absolutely beautiful, long lasting and far reaching sillage. I sprayed this on my wrist in a perfume store on the recommendation of the sales lady, then met up with some friends for shopping and dinner. We'd walk into a store and someone 10 feet away would comment that "something smells good'. A true masterpiece but very strong and not ideal for the small restaurant we went to later...even after I scrubbed it off. Maybe better for a cold day, an outdoor garden party, or party for two at home with some ice-cold bubbly! It is womanly, glamourous and intoxicating.
This is my favorite spring/summer night fragrance. It last a long time on my person. It is very expensive, but it is a fragrance selection for a women who wants something different to wear and do not have to worry about anyone at the party wearing the same.
First whiff, Chanel no5 on steroids..and i don't wear aldehydes well..this isn't going to end well-but surprise! The glorious sandalwood peeks out from underneath along with some dirty civet, which is countered by the aldehydes. I'm not getting individual flower notes, just a vague floral note. Definitely a big, bold, classic, womanly perfume..doesn't have the spice base of the other Amouages i've tried. Very lovely!
If ever there were a floral aldehyde perfume, Amouage GOLD would be one—and there are, so it is! The first two words out of my mouth upon application were: WHITE LINEN. I am truly baffled by the identification of GOLD on my carded sample as an oriental perfume. In fact, the description is stunning in its near vacuity, and all the more since that the *only* word used with a tangible meaning is ‘oriental’—which GOLD is not:
“This classic oriental fragrance, rich in splendor and sophistication is made for the most special luxurious occasion.”
Hmmm… could this be a perfume for old rich people looking for ways to spend some of their massively superfluous money and who know zip about perfume? (and might I be talking to you, Saudi friends of the Bush dynasty?)
If you like GOLD, do yourself a favor and buy EL WHITE LINEN (also 5 stars, according to LT, who seems however more interested in GOLD’s unique packaging than in what makes this composition so “rich in splendor and sophistication, made for the most special luxurious occasion”) and pocket the hundreds of dollars in change. While not identical, GOLD and WHITE LINEN smell more like each other than either does to anything else. In a side-by-side test of GOLD edt and WHITE LINEN edp, I find the former a touch sweeter and shinier, and the latter a touch cleaner and greener. I also thought that I detected narcissus in GOLD (though it's not listed in the notes....) but not in WHITE LINEN.
Is GOLD one of the top ten floral perfumes, as The Guide claims? It’s definitely better than BEYOND PARADISE—no argument there!
i liked first sniff but soon after got dissapointed. i really wanted to like it:) But it was not special at all. it is classic but not special.
received a sample from a kind swapper and really love this fragrance. It is so sexy smells like naughty musky baby oil! but still manages to be classy. really want this one!
If considering sampling Gold, you'll want to note the lily of the valley, jasmine and myrrh, which tend to wear sweet when accentuated, and here they are.
Now check your own wardrobe. How many strong white floral aldehydes do you have? Is Chanel n5 in your boudoir? What you think about No5 is what you'll think about this (and I think N5 is more wearable).
This is not my genre, and unsurprisingly Gold wears on me like a Fran Drescher monologue. I've sniffed enough from Amouage to know that it caters to the sweeter tastes, so I've never been much of a fan.
I doubt anyone would buy this blind, but even if you are considering a sample do confirm that heavy white florals are on your love list first.
Amouage Gold, another "classic" that s not for me.. it reminds me, sorry gals, of TOSCA by Muelhens from the 70ies..bah..so many chemical flowers I was getting unwell, it even gave me sneezes through it s aggressive sharpness in the beginning. Later on the aggressiveness vanishes and leaves some undefinable chemical flower scent. I can not give it one star out of five.
At first application, floral and powdery. Soft, comforting, nice. I don't find any one floral note dominent. I apply very little so to me it's not an overpowering scent. I think it's fine for day wear sparingly applied during the colder months. Definately for a more mature wearer or at least someone superbly elegant.
Exquisite scent , like velvet and silk .It can be heavy but a little behind the knees leaves a waft of sheer beauty.
My very generous best friend was kind enough to give me one of her samples of Amouage Gold. And I do mean "generous," since this fragrance is priced between $200-$500 per bottle. Upon first spraying my initial reaction was that this could quickly develop into one of those heavy, cloying kind of oriental fragrances, but after only a couple of minutes I was enveloped in a lovely, soft, powdery, elegant, and sensual blanket of warmth. It made me so relaxed, I wanted to nap (don't know if that's good or bad--I guess no operating heavy machinery for me). I did apply this sparingly, though, which may have made a difference. Yes, it's expensive, but, in my opinion, it's worth every penny!
Did nothing for me. Having tried two perfumes from Amouage that smells good and strong but nothing more, dosn´t make me curious about the others unfortunatly.
Only make me think of how many other perfumes that I found much better I can buy for the same money.
Overpriced in my opinion.
Guy Robert was the first perfumer whose fragrances I recognized as being created by a particular "nose". He also designed Madame Rochas, Calèche and Gucci Parfum 1, and I think you can smell a family relationship between these and Amouage Gold. Sadly, Madame Rochas and Gucci Parfum 1 are no longer available in their original forms, so its fortunate that Amouage offers this Guy Robert masterpiece.
I was nervous of sampling this one after reading many reviews, because I am very sensitive to loud, powerful fragrances, especially florals, and often end up feeling sick or having a major migraine. So I cautiously applied a tiny amount - and it is gorgeous! It is actually soft and exquisite, and exudes quality and refinement. I am conscious of its presence without being overwhelmed or annoyed, and feel elegant and special. I think it is timeless - not just for old ladies, but for certainly not for young girly girls - suitable for any mature, confident, elegant woman.
I think that some of the people who disliked this may have applied too much - and the fact that you need such a tiny amount makes the price more palatable. I would advise anyone sampling this for the first time to be restrained - after all you can always apply more next time if you wish!
Im 22 and I do take an intrest in dressing very elegant every day. My mother wore the original 'Crystal' (discontinued 15 years ago and was a private gift to friends of his Highness only) and she now wears men's and women's 'Gold' as it is the most similar.
Now I wear Gold on evenings out. This not for young, particularly girly women. Its serious, deep, elegant and nothing common.
HOWEVER..the beautiful bottle has been discontinued for a more 'modern' one and it is truly vile!
I LIKE this! At first, I thought, mature ... but then once it's actually ON me for a few moments, it becomes very, very sensuous - not old woman; but a woman in an old time - a golden time. This is very complex and heady. Just a tiny bit is needed. It takes guts to wear this one! And, I'm gutsy!
I fall into the "loathe" category for this fragrance. I respect that it's a beautifully done floral, but I think the frankincense and myrrh notes are too strong for me to enjoy it. To my nose, anything with strong notes of those just ends up smelling like soap! I know I'm in the minority here, but I just can't wear it. I wanted to, but hey, at least I don't have to buy it now! :)
worn by Vladimir Putin's wife
Possessed of an opulent, almost overblown structure, Amouage Gold is clearly one of those scents people either love or loathe. I happen to be a member of the former group: for me, this scent, when applied discreetly (yes, even I recoil from its Amazonian charms when I over-apply) creates a silky veil of scent that clings softly but assuredly to my skin and hair and bathes my entire being in a warm, ambered glow. I can think of no other scent that, at the end of a long day, still murmurs to me in such hushed, and soothing, and beautiful tones.
worth of a queen this fragrance with 120natural ingredients is never passing unobserved.even though it is opulent and rich, it is never breathcutting or invasive.
it is like seeing the queen of saba...it is impossible not to see her or to denie her beauty.
its balance and ingredients are exquisit.majestic but not arrogant.
for a lady with consciousness of her own charisma
I have a Amouage reminiscent of 1001 nights arábias.
It is very sensual, mysterious, sexy, intense.
Been a well-dressed woman, sensual, full of charms arabes.
I like it, very oriental, intensive and warm, it smells like oriental gold.
