You would think since it is being sold for $400 or more on ebay you would think they would bring it back.

I had this in the early '90s, in a blue bottle with a pump top.
The fragrance was thick, shimmery, like aloe vera juice in texture.
It smelled of the sea, watermelon and cucumber... not my usual preference, but a nice change... fresh, just out of the shower scent.
I loved the texture of the perfume, but developed an allergy to something in it two thirds of the way through the (big) bottle. Shame.
Would love to smell this again.

Seriously, this is the one scent from years ago that I would give my left boob to have back again! I am currently finding that the drydown of Eternity Summer 2014 smells nearly identical to this on my clothing after a few hours. If I can now refrain from eating my shirt......

I'd worn Aramis/New West since just after this came out in the early 90s. My love affair with it started when I was at a Halloween party and smelled it on another girl. I asked what it was and ever since then, I was hooked. Unfortunately, it's been discontinued and so there goes my signature scent, never to be replaced again. It was unlike any other perfume I've ever smelled (and trust me, I've smelled tons trying to find its replacement). I've gotten so many compliments on it over the yrs. from family and friends.

I'm just hoping one day it'll be resurrected or a good knockoff is made b/c I doubt anything will come close to the fresh, watermelon-ey, green, can-wear-any-season/time (day or night), perfection in a bottle.

Yep, I love New West--always have and always will!

Several years ago I smelled this trailing from a lady in Manchester, and, as is my wont, I asked her what she was wearing. So enamoured was I with the beautiful fresh cucumbery, salad green floral, I bought a bottle. I spritzed it on liberally at home, and ... yes, you've guessed it. It really didn't work on me. I got the fecal melon smuggler. Hold on, hold back your hail of missiles for a moment. It's me right? I really don't get along with that melon vibe. I'm not a big fruity person unless it's a "burn your eyes out zing of pure citrus", and this is way too gourmand for me. I tried, but couldn't get away from the over ripe fruit basket smell, which, possibly due to my disgusting craving for strawberries dipped in vinegar, made me ill when I was pregnant. I could have got away with the Jasmine, had it not been emboldened and loaned Lily's huge ass-kicking boots. (I don't everhave lilies in the house, too funereal for me). I think this is an incredibly well constructed perfume, how it can be so stuffed full of lovelies and smell as it does is beyond my ken, and I can absolutely see why it is so loved, for sure, I love it on someone else. Just not me. I put mine on evilbay. Someone will get a whole lot of big love from it. But no. Not me.

I never tried this fragrance when it was on the market, but the high praise motivated me to hunt down a bottle, even at the high ebay prices. Never having worn New West, it was difficult to gauge the freshness of the bottle. It is certainly not rancid, but I have no memory of the scent when it was new. I have since come into possession of another partially full bottle, and it smells identical. This is not proof that either bottle is pristine, but it gives me a bit of reassurance.

In any case, I love this fragrance, and I do not bestow this honor lightly. Despite the psychological effects of scarcity, I dislike some highly praised, discontinued fragrances. New West sneaked up on me and blew my mind.

When I first spritzed it on, I found it to be a very green scent, and I mainly detected fresh cucumber on my skin. I did see a couple reviews that described it similarly, but I still doubted the freshness of my bottle, as I detected nothing floral or feminine as described in many reviews. Generally, I am not a big fan of aquatics. New West, however, seemed more fresh and unique than "watery" to me. I decided to give it some time.

I have been living in central Texas for several years now, but I used to live right on the beach in South Florida. I would start many a day walking out the front door of my building and onto the beach to spend some time on the sand, if not the whole day. On the day I first tried New West, I headed to the mall in Texas to do some shopping. At some point midday, I caught just a whiff of beach air as I walked through the mall. Oh, my. Wow. It was just as if I had spent the morning on the beach before heading to the mall, and my hair and skin were still kissed by salt water. From that moment on, I was sold. Any fragrance that can so perfectly evoke the genuine experience...masterpiece.

I have never smelled this before but I really want this (discontinued why?) based on excellent reviews of people who really miss it now and also all the notes/ingredients listed are just my thing! I adore aquatic/fruity/woody scents and I feel as if I am missing out by not having smelt this classic gem of a fragrance. Please hear our cries and bring this back!

I too wore this fragrance in the 90's and I enjoyed the cool scent of watermelon that it had. I purchased it for a beach vacation that I went on. Had a great time and every time I wore New West it would remind me of that vacation. New West is a sunny, happy scent that makes me think of cool crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches. Refreshing!

I too wore this fragrance in the 90s and everyone asked 'what are you wearing?!" you smell clean and remind me of the beach! I loved this perfume and yes, my mom borrowed it too and she ruined it for me. it didn't smell nice on her. I grew tired of it but still miss it and refuse to pay 200 for a bottle. why was it discontinued? this scent was to me, the first of the many 'clean' perfumes that have come our way.

This wonderful juice reminds me also of La Source by Crabtree & Evelyn - and also Freedom by Hilfiger. I first wore this in the 90s, in my twenties, when noone except a very beautiful greek girl I knew (my bf at the time had a crush on her, that may have something to do with why I desired the perfume so much, too - she really was an exotic and classy creature, this girl! We all looked to her style for ideas) wore it.

It is fresh, watermelon, oceanic heaven to me. I keep it in the fridge nowawdays during summer to preserve the cool notes. I recently scouted around for another bottle but alas, it seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth! So this is precious indeed!

Oh my gosh I totally forgot about this!! I wore this in the early 90s and I wore the kind that was kind of like a gel and had a shimmer to it in the bottle. I loved it SO much and I remember my mom would borrow it and she didnt do that very often. I always liked the thicker kind better than the regular spray. I don't remember what it was called. I will read through the reviews and see if anyone has mentioned it. (I just looked it up and it was called "Desert Nectar"). I love seeing all these scents from my past popping up on the side of the homepage, it brings back so many memories! I would LOVE to smell this again. I guess I will see if I can get a sample somewhere. It is so fun strolling down memory lane through scent. Nothing can bring back a memory better than a fragrance from that period in time.

Like other reviewers, I wore this fragrance in the 90's, when these aquatic/ozone fragrances first became really popular. I wore this fragrance for years, and to this day, despite owning some 40+ couture fragrances (as well as others) nothing has come close in terms of people noticing and complimenting me on a fragrance.

It is a scent that brings you to the beach just before it becomes overwhelmingly hot, with your skin smelling of the sea but warmed by the sun. It was a fragrance that seemed to manage to make "fresh and clean" also smell very sexy!!

What was unique about my days wearing this perfume was the age range of compliments too - from kids up to grannies, all loved this fragrance.

Sadly, although I've managed to purchase a few bottles, all have been rancid smelling - and even a few days in the fridge doesn't revive them enough for me to wear. I will have to 'get over it', and realise that this fragrance, however wonderful, is sadly an aroma in my past forever.....

This is my favorite scent of all time. I never tire of it and thankfully it can still be found online. I am awaiting the arrival of a bottle right now, since I ran out a few months ago. I have tried many other perfumes through the years, and nothing ever comes close. I feel uplifted by this perfume, it is truly unique and also a scent that one gets constant compliments on.

Once someone suggested Il Baccio by Borghese as a good replacement for New West, I did try it out at a parfume store then, and found that one pleasant, but did not buy it and have never come across another bottle, so I am still not sure about that one.

My first review! I must begin by saying that while I have always loved perfume, as of late this site has become an addiction! That and acquiring discontinued fraqs (or finding out some of my oldies in my collection now are after examining them on here).

I am at my parents house today, going through old things. I came across my old love New West! Keeping in trend with my studies of perfume composition, I just had to look it up... And I definitely agree with all of the nostalgia you all associate with it!

Normally I am drawn to white florals so having a love for New West makes it quite special and different from everything else I have. It always seemed quite masculine with a strong take charge 90's woman in a very simple business suit, yet looking ever so classy and sophisticated. But at the same time, I can picture the suede or leather bomber and soft, straight, and long hair with exaggerated side part and boots on a young lady from the 90's as well. Learning that Aramis is primarily a men's brand, it makes sense I would think of the smell as slightly masculine.

Upon first sniff, immediate warm earthy with some kind of sweet tang making it fresh. Its easy to go overboard and can burn the nose if you go too crazy ;-) I really don't know how to describe it because it really is different! You guys have already done that better than I could. All I can say is that I love it love it love it!

A few months ago I learned of Jean Patou's Joy. Bought it. Then on here I read about other JP scents. I recognized one of the bottles as possibly being in my mother's collection. Alas, tonight I saw that it was... Eau de Patou! (Mom didn't like and gave to me. Thanks Mom!) To my astonishment, I couldn't believe how similar it seemed to me as New West! I KNOW they are categorized differently and consist mostly of different notes (besides amber and oakmoss), but here is my scientific breakthrough :-) ... New West minus a tiny bit of the sweet fruit plus Loves Lemon Fresh = Eau de Patou! Ha ha!

Ok, so maybe this review sucked- but I just wanted to share some of my happiness with you all! And to tell you that I love reading all of your reviews along with the website's encyclopedia of all things (here comes the cheese) SCENTsational!

Oh, wasn't it just wonderful?!! It is so hard to describe this scent as it was so complex and utterly individual.
Like many people on here, it evokes memories for me, that it is less of a perfume and more of the scent of a place and time I would love to live over again! Luckily I purchased a bottle of it again this year, and get such pleasure out of just sniffing the one spritz I allow myself incase I should never find it again ...please, please Aramis, bring it back!

One of my all time favorites, and I'm a guy....just FYI, when this was launched it was marketed as a chypre thanks to the heavy dose of oakmoss, and I'd agree...a surprisingly fresh, watermelon aquatic.

Oh how I loved this fragrance!! No fragrance has ever given me more attention and compliments than this!! Yes, I agree with many reviewers, it is the essence of the 80's. But why should that be an issue? I know women who wear the same scent all their lives. This is a fragrance you COULD do that with, because it's a clean, crisp, aquatic/fruity scent, fresh and clear - like the sea, your shower.

How I wish they would bring this back!! Or that someone would bring out a variation with as much impact.

I miss the compliments and the freshness of wearing this.... :-(

Ah! this takes me back! I was obsessed with this fragrance when I was a teenager in the early 90's. I used to drown myself in the stuff, I even had the deodarant!

I'm not a fan of sweet or overly floral perfumes, I prefer clean scents. This one is definitely a summer daytime scent, its oceanic, fresh and beachy!

I smelt this again recently, but one spritz was enough! its quite heady if you have too much.

Its quite hard to get hold of now, but I think I will leave it in the past. I have moved on, but its nice to be nostalgic now and again.

I bought this when it first came out in the 90's and still love it. I think this started my love of fruity and aquatic scents. I found an old empty bottle of it this morning while cleaning the basement and now I must find it again! I thought it was discontinued for a bit so I moved on to others that were similar but never quite the same. (Holy crap its $150 a bottle on Amazon -- it used to be one of the cheaper ones. Maybe I'll have to pass.)

I find this scent very fresh, clean and aquatic.
It makes me happy when I wear it and it brings back tons of memories.

i've been wearing this stuff for 20 years and i love love LOVE it. there is nothing else like it - the watermelon, night blooming jasmine, and freshly cut grass (is that what you ppl are calling "mossy"?) transported me into childhood memories of summer evenings in our back yard. i wear it less now because it's hard to replace, but every time i do, two things happen. i get all those sweet summer memories and countless people tell me i smell good.

funny, I remember this perfume from when I was a kid/very young lady and that's about all I can remember of it. I remember it didn't make much of an impression , cant even say what it smelled like.

Keep in mind, I was young, and my favorite perfumes at the time were Coco Chanel and Anna Sui

I wish I could remember what it actually smelled like. It's possible I didn't give it enough of a chance due to that very ugly bottle :p

I tried this when it first came out. I'm surprised to see how many notes went into this - it smelled like I had bathed in watermelon, and it stayed that way. I was relieved when I wasn't attacked by fruit flies, bees or hornets. Couldn't get it washed off fast enough.

My art teacher wore this when I was in school. It`s a fantastic summer fragrance, very unique- fruity but not girly. How would I describe it- it`s more a sophisticated fruity-floral scent.
I imagine myself taking a bottle of this one with me to my next holidays in the sun- to bond this to feelings of summer, sun and sea...

I do not know this perfume, only the description in notes! I read it being a typical pine like Aliage and Private Collection. Scherrer original also. In my opinion pine perfumes are not for beginners! I really laughed about the 'it stinks' qualification. My husband gave Aliage the impression of goat smell! HAHAHA!! Well, that stinks alright if you put it on your skin!!
Now I changed my mind about pine stinking. It does take some time to get used to however, so if you are going to wear pine in an environment that is not aristocratic, maybe the people will find you stinking. But when you are in an aristocratic setting you may be perceived as intellectual, strong own identity, classy. I still think Scherrer original succeeded the best in turning the stinking pine into excellent class!
Good luck!

Interestingly, Crabtree & Evelyn's "La Source" scent (not to be confused with their "La Source" line of hotel/hospitality products, some of which have the original "La Source" scent and some of which do not) smells uncannily like New West to me. C&E has a hand cream in that line which is really excellent and would probably be a winner if you like this fragrance.

This was one of my favorites in the early ninties...

New West was ahead of its time - one of the first fruity scents I had ever come across - and to me it was unique. Watermelon is what's listed in the notes, but on me it was melon...nice ripe honeydew melon. The melon came aboard early, took it's place in the front row, and stayed for the entire trip. That was what I liked about it.

My co-worker wears New West as her one and only scent. I had never paid it much attention before but it really is lovely and smells like no other. Much ado is made of the Calone's melon/oceanic notes in this one, and they are nice, but they would be nothing special if they weren't stacked on top of the lovely dry-down. Ocean and fruits meet mossy, herbally musk. This one is complex, and much more green than floral or oceanic. I think that's why it has held up better and seems less dated than many oceanic scents that were popular in the 1990's.

I agree with SandraS's comments about the persistence and sillage on this perfume. I get a lovely scented breeze each time my co-worker passes, all day long.

New West was difficult to find for awhile, but I've seen it being offered on more websites lately. Worth checking out if you like green scents or are looking for an alternative to the many sweet scents on the market.

I have this one for ever...it must be one of the first scents I ever bought. I was finnishing highschool and the very handsome sales assistante refer to this as one of the sexiest scents for a woman. I bought immediatly, big step for my small allowance, because I soo wanted to be regarded as a woman!

This is a clean summer smell, very strong top of bergamot and drydown od woodsy notes. Perfect for casual or office wear, has a good staying power and right syllage. I wouldn't say its sexy but is a fun smell, it reminds me of hot summer nights, kissing under a midnight sky...

ah, the early nineties..i was in high school, avidly reading books by Tom Robbins and Jack Kerouac in my free time, and listening to Pearl Jam albums on my walkman, and my choice of fragrance was New West for her.
I took a sniff again, and was immediately transported to those years.
I sense something very aquatic in this fragrance, reminiscent of the ocean in
California perhaps, and lush greenery,
orange groves,gardens,and wild flowers.
I always imagine a blond woman in a convertible driving the highway, listening to Muddy Waters of B.B King,
wearing levi's jeans and big sunglasses.
She is very clean cut and lightly tanned, and very charming.
Maybe it was the idea of beauty that I had at that time, and I would not use this perfume again, but it was nice sniffing it for old time's sake.
Now,where have I put my Pearl Jam albums?
