I got this a part of an aramis mini collection. The fruity aldehydes were much too strong and lasted much too long.
Another nice one Estee Lauder/Aramis brought back to life witin their Gentlemens Collection. Springtime fragrance for me, very easy going, very green, classy yet fresh and uplifting & natural. Of high quality and therefore last very well, up to 8-10 hours and though nobody noticed so far, but in the very last stages of the drydown there is a similarity to Paco Rabanne Sport which I also adore to this day. New West is definitly a winner for those who like their fragrances green, natural and long lasting. Perfect job!
I actually must say this isn't a bad fragrance. It's not quite the current generation of "aquatics" despite its sea elements, and I'm thankful for that. I get a much more mossy, sandalwood/cedar/pine vibe from this than anything.
Great longevity for a cologne, it's inexpensive, it's not unnervingly aquatic. Overall, it's a solid masculine scent that wears decently. While nothing particularly special about it, New West is a very solid effort and I'm happy to see it return if only to force people to understand how calone should really be combined in a fragrance.
I kept my expectations on New West for Him ver low so when I finally got to test it I've to admit I've been very positively impressed. I honestly thought about something aquatic, sort of an ante litteram version of Light Blue but no way...
New West for Him is very herbaceous and aromatic. It opens with aldehydes and bergamot joined by a minty vibe and, yes, some calone. It's surely refreshing but at the same time anything but dull as geranium and artemisia provide a contrasting and almost astringent undertone while a fougere-y lavander/mossy accord resembles many classic compositions from the same period. Sharp woods (cedarwood) and culinary herbs (bay leaf, rosemary and oregano) are remarkable throughout but they're never overdone.
A great option for anyone who's into lighter / fresher fragrances but want to avoid the chemical fruit blast of many composition of the same genre.
Rating: 7.5/10
This strikes me as a fragrance like Krizia Uomo or One Man Show (drydown) diluted, and then with some calone (or whatever the chemicals are) mixed in. It comes across as "chemical/perfumey" to me, so perhaps I am especially sensitive to the chemicals involved (with aquatic fragrances, it's instant nausea). So, I guess I'll stick to Green Jeans, Pino Silvestre, One Man Show, Polo, etc. when I'm thinking along these lines, because I enjoy those fragrances, whereas New West is struggle to avoid nausea. One thing I noticed which surprised me is that New West is quite similar to Baldessarini, so I'm wondering if New West is the first fragrance of this type (another one is Tom Ford for Men), leading the way to the others. I can understand that others like this type, but I find them too "chemical" or "synthetic." Projection/"sillage" seems to be very good, but I had to wash it off so I can't speak to longevity (given the apparently chemical nature, I'd guess that it's at least very good too). I believe I sampled the original NW, though I'd guess there isn't much if any difference.
I remember this as a fresh fruity aquatic lovely fragrance - similar to aqua quorum - a great one for summer
I don't think of New West as an aquatic at all. For me it's very dry, slighly herbal, and very mossy and woodsy. It may aspire to have a Californian identity, but it manages to succintly capture the warm, dry, and sunny Texas Hill Country in all of its essence.
Off the top I get a faint citrus aspect, I guess the bergamont. It is soon overtaken by a herbal note that makes me think of something like basil. Maybe the caraway, coriander and bay leaf working together. There is a consistent cedar/pine element from top to bottom. Very woodsy and almost, just almost, bitter. Never overpowering. I do pick up the oakmoss and definitely the cedar as it relaxes into the dry down. Very earthy and enjoyable. Although it may be a complex blend it doesn't seem like it. The quality I expect from Aramis. Nothing synthetic at all. I like it.
I might be able to sense the faint hint of sea salt in the dry down if I try, but I must proclaim: for me NO mint and definetly NO watermelon. Not at all. Not to any stretch of the imagnation. I don't really pick out the floral notes either. It would be difficult to use the word floral to describe it.
New West suits the warmer months well, and lasts a long time on my skin. I think it would work year round. Day or night. Very flexible if you like it. Glad to have this back in my collection. I agree with Omega Man, "good macho stuff".

I was so pleasantly surprised by this, allegedly the first perfume to use calone (which I hate). It's a tamer, less intensely vegetal version of Caron's Yatagan overlaid with a cool, tasteful oceanic note. I love the LESS THAN ZERO-esque ads, and the "west coast"-oriented image which seems designed to entice Giorgio wearers. A great masculine!
A light and sporty mossy and woody cologne. The opening is light and airy, the mid notes smell awesome (wood + moss), and the base is sweet/musky. New West is not really an out-dated scent and it's not common, and not very expensive. Good macho stuff.
This perfum is an authentic master piece, simply is wonderfull, I can not understand why aramis it has not returned to their production.
I remember wearing this great fragrance in the late 80s when it was first released. It remined me of holidays, the beach, sun and sand, yachting, summer, romance .... it certainly represented a lot of things that were current with the times.
It epitomised the era and evoked a certain 'American-ess' about it.
I give credit to Estee Lauder creating the first scents to capture a marine accord thought the molecule calone.
But for some reason I connect this scent with the late 80's and Miami Vice / Don Johnson. You know those loud neon colors and a Camaro I-ROC Z with T top roof.
