Rose Anonyme Fragrance Reviews

kanak said it all.
I usually don't like rose fragrances, but Rose Anonyme is the one that made me change my mind, made me see that there are rose fragrances out there that can be smolderingly sexy and not evoke images of a potpourri. I started with a sample, then tentatively the 30ml, and now I sprang for the biggest bottle. Even if you don't like roses, I'd still suggest you to try this.

Rose Anonyme. Gorgeous.
Ideally I should stop this review right there as that says it all and should be recommendation enough to go get this juice. If you want the standard Rose, Patchouli and oud combo taken to it's brightest, lightest, freshest point, this is it. When someone says Rose, patchouli and oud, the first thing that comes to mind is Black Aoud and countless other middle eastern inspired frags of it's type, all heavy handed crude bully frags that slap you in the face for the most part. Rose Anonyme by contrast is a lover that kisses your cheek and wraps you in a hug all day long. It is the absolute other end of the spectrum you can get with the same notes. It is the addition of the bergamot and papyrus notes that does this and the ginger provides balance. And for being such a lightish, airy frag, this projects and lasts a long time.

I put on just 2 sprays to the chest and sat down for breakfast and My Mum said your cologne is very strong which was frankly surprising. But this initial beast mode projection settles down after about an hour. Longevity likewise is excellent, 8 hours plus on me. If you are a rose lover of any kind, get this. If you are somebody who is turned off by heavy rose frags also get this. This is balanced really well and even guys who are normally leery of rose or consider it too feminine can pull this off. The only caveat I would state is that if you are mostly into heavy ouds, then this wont float your boat.

For me personally, It's one of the best darn things I have smelled in a long, long time and proves once again that even the most overused banal notes in perfumery can provide magic in the hands of the right perfumer.

Like a few others, this beauty was love at second sniff or subsequent sniffs, at least. It was a grower. I was not expecting such a vibrant, fresh, woody rose from the listed notes. I expected something darker. Probably because of the oud. I do not detect a big oud note at all. It is a perfect blend of all its parts, because it is smooth. Nothing jars, nothing seems too strong. I would not call this an oriental at all, to me this is a modern chypre. The patch and papyrus standing in for the green oakmoss. Nothing leathery here, just a heap of fresh, but drying green. In a good way. Succulent rose too, not powdery, not sour or classic feeling. It smells like autumn to me. When leaves are turning and the green is drying out. A woody freshness to the damp that slowly creeps...

Roses! ! Is it soapy? Is it syrupy? Is it powdery grandma rose based cologne?

No!! It's not. This fragrance is a lovely dark earthy oriental rose that is done and blended very well.

The patchouli rose combo with hints of oud in the back ground makes it one of the best rose based fragrances in the game with pleasurable notable balanced aroma.

To make an example that illustrate how this scent smells like.
Imagine how A*MEN pure rose gonna smell like. I hope that makes sense.

Excellent performance, considering the cologne concentration

Cheers!!

Starts with some fresh notes that leave quickly the way to a rose that leans to the dark side rather than the fresh or syrupy one (which makes it perfectly unisex) with a bit of incense and the western clean/synthetic kind of oud. The rose is not center staged as the composition is blended so that it's not a rose soliflore. There are some fruity notes that get mixed in the heart which makes the fragrance playful and brightens it up. The drydown comes with a clean patchouli and a powdery base thrown in the mix and, as a whole, the fragrance is mostly linear with minor shifts from top to base that give small nuances rather than big changes. The longevity is surprisingly long for an Atelier fragrance.

This sat untouched in my cabinet for almost a year, as the first time that I tried it, I did not like it at all. This summer, however, I decided to give it another try. I have been wearing it the entire summer. It's the perfect blend of rose and oud. On me, the dry-down reminds me of Tom Ford's Oud Wood, which I adore. The longevity is very good; I get whiffs of it even after 10 hours. The sillage is not bad at all, especially for an Atelier Cologne.

I was given this as a gift and I have to say: good job!

This is lovely. For once (once) the presence of ginger doesn't destroy the fragrance, I do not in fact smell like bad curry as per usual. In fact I would have never guessed there was ginger without looking at the notes. Oud either honestly.

I get a rich rose scent spiced with some incense and jam. There's a lightening note of citrus (must be the bergamot) that keeps it from being stuffy. In fact its very nice on this warm summer evening. It's a bright, dry rose. A rose that's had all the dew evaporated off by the sun and is hanging out on the dinner table with some nice wine. Beautifully blended. A very different take on rose from my usual favorites but very welcome.

They also make this in perfume extrait form and it's almost a different scent. Much more potent with a strong dose of pepper. Not sure why it's not listed on the site. A great long lasting spicy rose.

Unlike most of what I tried from Atelier Cologne, Rose Anonyme is not very citrus intensive, but rather, rose dominant, as the name suggests. It has a bit of oud but it's unlike most rose/oud combinations due to the degree to which the rose smell by far over any of the other notes, including oud. I got bergamot in the opening, and I get ginger throughout the opening into the dry down, so I imagine ginger is a heart note, with patchouli in the dry down as well. I imagine the sweetness I'm smelling is the benzoin, as it's not overwhelmingly sweet but still jammy sweet somehow.

Overall, the experience involves this sweetness, a slightly spicy and oud-like aspect, and a little bit of powder.

At first I thought it reminded me of Aramis Perfume Calligraphy Rose but Calligraphy Rose is much darker and more acerbic, and Rose Anonyme is much sweeter--without the sweetness, it might lean more feminine, but with the benzoin it's welcoming enough for all.

Rose Anonyme is likely the first Atelier Cologne I've tried (I've not yet tried the newer, more expensive, presumably more powerful Collection Orient) that I would say has a strong projection, stronger than any of the others I've tried, with quite good longevity. This might be the first Atelier that I buy, and at $98 for 100ml on FragranceNet (contra the retail $150 for 100ml), it's a considerable discount as usual.

This reminds me of a perfume that is not in the database but should be, Irma Shorell Rose.

That perfume much like AC Rose Anonyme harkens back to the days of rich full bodied yet angular dried rose notes in perfume. The fresh dewy morning rose that many of us are familiar with in the 21st century is the result of near a century of tireless experiments and aromachemical research. Much of the components within the particular accords for those "green" and "aquatic" roses involve elements that unable to be duplicated using natural ingredients only. Honestly, as an aside, I think the modern obsession with austerity in perfumery notes is a result of the abundance gained through aromachemicals that can be tweaked here and there to form accords previously impossible to compose.

Now we as a society of consuming noses believe that the only decent "natural" rose is that which mimics through scientific artistry the dew, the earth, the green of it all.

Green and rose has become so common that it's actually refreshing to come across the dried aged rose common in compositions from yesteryear. More than the bank of England, such roses come across as fleshy and sensual with depth. It's a urbane and witty perfume rose that is proud to be a perfume and does not wish to be mistaken for it's country cousin straight from the garden.

Aside from the lush grown up rose, there's a note of lime bay rum and refreshing citrus. The patchouli is an after thought used to round out the entire effort. Incidentally I sprayed a bit of this on and further down my arm, spritzed a bit of Queen Latifah's Queen perfume (it seems to have acquired a bit of a cult status for it's longevity and spicy vanilla richness)

Queen with it's heavy dose of patch and vanilla provided just what needed to have been further emphasized in Rose Anonyme--the base notes needed to be richer to hold up that blooming in a baccarat vase rose.

Longevity is not as long as others in the line of this House, Sillage is arms length.

I received a sample of this and I tried tried and TRIED to like this juice as it is pretty 'spensive cost wise.

However, on my skin it is WAY too manly.. and this coming from me who would love to take a bath in Black Orchid

On me this sits close to the skin with my usual single spray to wrists and neck. It starts off mostly dry, papery, and sour — oud with rose as a supporting note. It quickly turns sweeter, cool, and dry, and reminds me of something bored wealthy middle-aged women were wearing to the theatre in the 90s ... sort of shallowly elegant and standoffish. The rose note barely reminds me of the live flower and is more like an idealized photograph of a rose, flat and inaccessible. In mid-notes, I get the barest hints of patchouli and benzoin, a little more opoponax and papyrus. Four hours later the scent is barely present, mostly oud and the earthier type of patchouli, with very faint (possibly wishful) bergamot and ginger. Overall, a disappointment for me; I was looking for a layered, vivacious scent with a rose character, but for me this perfume quickly turns into a remote, woody, sterile memory of expensively air-conditioned greenhouse flowers.

nice rose scent with oud smells very nice. suitable for winter and the evenings, this fragrance is very potent. I put two sprays to the neck and one on the chest and it lasted 12 hours on me. I could easily smell it on me for the first 7 hours. i think the oud helps it last longer. although this is very nice my number one rose scent is still L'artisan viola de roses. But this is a close second.

you can expect 10-12 hours with this, projection is moderated and creates a little bubble around you anyone an arms length will smell it on you with 3-4 sprays.
Test before a buying very potent in terms of lasting on skin.

"Earthy Rose with a twist!" is how would describe Rose Anonyme. I received a bottle of this for my birthday in October and have been wearing it this past Winter. At first I was not sure about it but have come to love it.

At first spritz it is very woody Oud with a burst of Bergamot. Then the Rose and Ginger come into the mix very quickly. At this point Rose Anonyme has a curious vibration that is serious and playful at the same time. There is a sweetness from the Opoponox that is noticeable but not over the top. Just enough to make it pleasant. The Patchouli is not screaming but present. Then there is the subtle green note of the Papyrus. That is probably what I enjoy the most. This is present all through the dry down with the prominent Rose and very rich but not heavy Oud.

I can see how some people may find it a bit hard to handle upon first application but given time to develop on the skin it becomes enticing.

It reminds me of walking through an old garden that has become overgrown but is still thriving. Where an old tree has a fallen branch and the roses bushes need pruning but are flowering. There is a ginger plant with some dead shoots with the dried flower crowns causing them to bend releasing the spicy scent. There is an herb garden with patchouli bursting out of its raised bed. Then there is a quaint little pond where the papyrus has taken over with frogs swimming and dragonflies flying above the water. A very curious yet restful place indeed.

This is my take on this very unusual fragrance. I find that it has sillage that is moderate and its longevity is about four to five hours on me. I give this a 10/10.

The opening is beautifully rosy and jammy but it gets cut quickly with a sharp gingery oud note. I was expecting something closer to Jo Malone's Velvet Rose and Oud but JM's reads a bit sweeter on my skin. I'm not generally fond of too sweet fragrances but JMs seems more balanced to me. This one smelled strangely bitter on my skin for a while until the drydown, which was lovely. Unfortunately longevity is surprisingly low on me! Lasted maybe 4 hours?

I'm not fond of oud, and I'm hard to please when it comes to rose (the only one I keep coming back to is SMLR) but I adore this one. It is somewhat gentler and less pure than SMLR, and it has about half the duration (I can't smell it at all within a few hours, while the SMLR is still going strong). Layering it with itself helps some, but not as much as I'd like. This would be an evening event/date night perfume, not an all-day scent that doesn't require reapplication.

It is neither excessively dry nor excessively fruity, has a realistic rose that goes neither sour nor powdery (an accomplishment), more complex than SMLR (which is still the gold-standard Moroccan rose absolute perfume soliflore out there, in my opinion), and feels chic and elegant rather than matronly or dowdy.

Feeling pretty sure that I won't be swapping this one off, which has been the fate of every other rose-oud that I've tried.

This one is a strong bitter oud mixed with a dry dusty and salty rose. I really like this, its the classic rose/oud combo that mixes the bitter with the sweet, but its done really well here. But to sum it up, the bitter outshines the sweet. Anything oud automatically registers masculine to me, but the strong rose undercurrent in this makes this one more unisex veering slightly toward feminine. However, as guy I feel I can easily pull this off. Might be a bit much for a passive perfume wearer, but for an oud connoisseur, it's a must have. Thumbs up. Only flaw, it starts with a roar and ends in 3 hours with a whimper.

Too much patchouli! A little makes a rose nicely spicy, but overdo it and you're left with a rotten rose - one that actually smells like it's over-ripe and going bad. Unfortunately, this fragrance ends up on the wrong side of the balance and smells a bit...putrid. It's borderline cloying, though not nearly as nauseating as Angel (with which it shares quite a bit of DNA thanks to the patchouli overdose). Not smelling the ginger, which is a shame.

This just isn't a "realistic" rose to me. It's too jammy and not very pleasant. Compared to the smell of a real, huge, full red rose, this just isn't good enough. Roses smell so lovely - why turn them into perfumes that smell like they're mingling with garbage?

One spray is definitely all you need. Any more should get you banned from public transportation.

First thing my husband said about this perfume: smells like sweet wine gone bad (and he rarely notices that I'm wearing a perfume at all). The sillage was extreme for the first 20min. and it smelled like very sweet rose mixed with rotten fruits.
After ~30min. I could barely smell anything and actually was quite happy about it because I was heading to a restaurant and didn't want to insult people around me..
It was a pretty hot and humid evening so most likely it was not the best time to try it. Will wait for cooler days to give this perfume a second chance.

My first go around with this fragrance wasn't so pleasant, but something has been drawing me to give this a second try. So despite previous dissatisfaction and a less than positive review below I am now trying this again. In the 3 months since my last test the only differences I can see if my life is my stress level has shot up tremendously as my project due date rapidly approaches. Also, the weather here has become increasingly uncomfortable as the humidity levels rise with the 98 degree mid summer heat.

I can't say Rose Anonyme wows me with fireworks, but apparently, as adrenaline and temperatures rise the smell of Rose Anonyme becomes addictingly attractive to me. For some reason it's as if I need to smell this lush rose dripping in myrrh, oud and papyrus. It smells dark, exotic and mystical. It's long lasting and it's heavy, but not cloying. I'm so drawn to this fragrance.

If a florist shop, a coffee shop, and a barber shop were all in a row, what you would smell walking by is Rose Anonyme. This is definitely not a bad thing, though. I should add that the shops are very high end! Perfectly sweet rose on top, rich, luxurious coffee in the middle, and expensive soap on bottom. I love it.

The darker opoponax note contrasts really beautifully with the jammy rose & sharp oud. The soapy/patchouli base is sort of unexpected, but not bad. It smells lavish. There's some vanilla (benzoin) at the tail end of this thing to smooth it all out. I got lots of compliments when I tried this. I'm thinking it's full bottle worthy.

I don’t usually care for anything rose-scented, but lately, after reading about the new Carolina Herrera fragrance Burning Rose, I decided to search for something featuring rose and patchouli. Rose Anonyme has more OUD than patchouli, so that’s a big minus in my book. (Not everybody is crazy about oud!) I was hoping that patchouli would be blended well enough that the rose note wasn’t so noticeable, but it’s very noticeable, and the oud (and possibly the patchouli) cause it to smell a bit like coffee. Yes, that’s exactly what it smells like to me, roses and coffee. Well, this might be nice for many, but I am one of the few people who doesn’t like the smell of coffee. As with ALL Atelier Colognes I have sampled so far, I am left wanting more. Even my favorite Atelier, Mistral Patchouli, seems muddled, and off.

I know we're all gushing and raving about oud right now, and the industry is churning the stuff out in vats, but it never really did much for me. Doesn't anyone else find it really heavy and thick? Almost unbreathable? No? Just me? Sure, OK.

But THIS oud, now this is an oud I can get behind. I get that deep, earthy quality that you're supposed to get from Oud, and it doesn't get too heavy because it's accompanied by notes that 'lift' it. Ginger gives it a lovely zing, papyrus makes it papery somehow, and my favourite note - the rose - gives it romance.

The overall effect? Old books and old roses. Yep, I think that the papyrus+oud+resins do a beautiful old library books thing which I just can't get over, and the roses have an aged-ness that is very nostalgic...? Mmmmmh this is what rose and oud should do together.

Try it if you haven't had much luck with oud. This is a good exception to the rule.

I agree with mirror ghost.....this is definitely a magenta rose, classically beautiful but not old fashioned. The first Oudh scent that smells pleasant to me. Not a love but close to a like. Edit: I considered swapping this away as I don't reach for it much but each time I sniff it, my 'nose' seems to become more accustomed to this complex scent. I may grow into it...

This perfume would be seductive and elegant on the right person. I'm just not sure how I feel about it.

This is a very medicinal smelling scent, but especially in the opening. I'm quite sure that this is the oud. It fades pretty fast to a linear scent of a light rosiness overshadowed by a herbal, green and softly-spiced patchouli. I can sniff out patchouli like a lion hunting a water buffalo and it's very prominent on my skin. There's probably some more notes intermingling in there somewhere, but I can't decipher them.

As it is, the fragrance would be excellent for both men and women, except for me, I'd prefer a little more rose. I felt like the oud and patchouli were jostling for centre stage and pushing the rose into the background. This might just be my chemistry, though. Moderate to heavy sillage but then fades after a few to a skin scent; lasts for about 6-7 hours.

A patchouli-rose which if they turned down the sugar volume a couple of notches, I would like it much better. For a few seconds it's really quite appealing but then becomes jammy, syrupy sweet on me. Almost a Welch's grape jelly sticky sweetness. I find that this same sugar syrup runs through many of their fragrances and really kills them for me. And for some reason makes them smell rather symthetic. It's too bad, because when I smell around the sugar, there are some notes I really like. (Ironically, their vanilla incense fragrance, which I would expect to be more sweet, is the driest of the bunch!) I do have a sample of this and have layered it with some earthier/drier fragrances like Vetiver Extrodinaire and that actually works quite nicely.

I'm still on the fence with this one. Usually I love anything with Rose & Patchouli, but this one has a spicy note that's a little too masculine for my taste. I think it's the ginger. It's a nice floral when you don't want to smell too sweet. This would be an excellent fragrance for a man who wants something different but not feminine. Only lasted a couple hours.

I love some perfumes, I dislike others, and I feel indifferent to some. Well, Rose Anonyme falls into the indifferent category.
While I truly admire Vanille Incensee and Mandarine Glaciale, I don't know what to think about Rose Anonyme.
It opens with a sweet note, sort of a caramelized rose. Musk, oud and honey. It's a floral dipped in syrup.
The bergamot is somewhere in the background but almost unnoticed.
And then it stays linear, a constant sweet floral note that slowly fades away.
And pretty much that's it. I have nothing else to say.

This is the rose that you can spray on, close your eyes and pretend you're in a lush, wet rose garden after a soft rainfall. I say that because I don't only smell roses in this, I smell the dirt and the grass and greenery of nature and it's wonderful!

That being said, the bergamot and ginger get a bit confusing with this rose garden story so let's pretend the garden has some bergamot trees and ginger plants in it too, okay?? They make this a lot more interesting and refreshing anyway (though I would have liked to smell a version of this without them, just to feel
the difference...)

I purchased this as a trio with Orange Sanguine and Vanille Insensee and they are amazing when layered!

If you want to try a modern 2010's rose rather than the girly, granny stuff of yesteryear, definitely give this a try. In the future, perfumes like these will be the ones defining this decade. Someone in 2045 will smell this and go 'Hmm... This smells like it's from the 10's...' but they definitely won't call it granny perfume!

That being said, I love this, I own this but my quest to find the perfect sugared candy rose perfume continues...

ETA - 9/30/15 - I ended up ordering a 3.4oz bottle of this. The more I used the travel-spray, the more it started becoming my favorite. It's in my Fragrantica top fives now!

Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme is a guttural rose - strong, deep, primal. The oud adds a masculine character, but it's still feminine enough for women. It's pretty linear and lasts a while. Warm, comfortable, autumn/winter scent.

Not your typical rose fragrance! I think it should have a different name, since the rose is not the main feature here. The strongest notes are pink pepper, papyrus, and benzoin. It's similar to the pink pepper, gourmand & patchouli feeling of Thierry Mugler's Angel EDT version. However, Rose Anonyme is much less of a punch in the face. The longevity of this fragrance is pretty strong, though! Pleasant, but kind of unusual. Try before you buy.

This is not a run of the mill rose, but somehow I feel like I have smelled it before. Where? I don't know. In the first few seconds I thought this is what Thierry Mugler Angel would smell like if mixed with rose (and now I see that some reviewers mention a likeness to La Rose Angel). The patchouli is front and center with the rose in the opening, and then it wanes with time.

I don't know what oud smells like as I have not gotten my paws on any of the rose-oud offerings on the market. I anticipated oud would smell woody, and I actually get a note that smells like charred wood. Is that the oud? It's bitter but somehow I like it.

The rose becomes dry, warm, and comfy in the drydown. I certainly detect the papyrus. I would say this is great to wear year-round, and I am enjoying it now in the cold. Longevity seems to be great.

I get rose and Oud in the five minutes. After that, I get mostly rose and vanilla, although vanilla isn't a listed note. I can also smell the papyrus. Overall, I like it but there are better rose fragrances out there.

I'd never thought rose could have attitude--it's always been a very "grandmother" scent to me. Well, this grandma probably drives a Harley and when you ask her about her past she just mutters something about Nazis and Egypt and Doctor Jones and then changes the subject.

Point being, this is a very unique rose.

It's strongly rose, and unapologetically so; but it's kept from being too feminine or soft or sweet because it's wrapped in dusty papyrus, dense patchouli and a pungent woody note I can't place--which I'm guessing is the oud, as I think this is my first fragrance featuring oud.

I think a guy could easily wear it, provided the idea of wearing a "rose" scent isn't an automatic rejection.

Also, random tangent--as a kid I loved the Nancy Drew series, and in "The Secret of Red Gate Farm" she buys a bottle of unusual and mysterious perfume from a French-Chinese perfume saleswoman. I'd like to think this is what that perfume smelled like.

Interesting rose fragrance, quite warm due to supporting oriental ingredients. I like it, but I also find it a bit strange. Maybe it is just too balsamic to my nose.

First of, I was not impressed- I love rose, but that thing smelled like I spent a night with some old grumpy smoker of cheap siGarets... Later, when I desided to give it a second chance with a decant I fell from a chair!!! What a change, in me or in weather, or in Cologne!!!! Just great tobacco, oud and mature rose hugs you so tender and cautiously, that it resembles of a feeling of warm blanket in the Sunday morning, when the air in crisp and the mood is lazy... Beautiful job done, one of my fav now :) just another rose to my "want" list for Santa

Rose Anonyme has become one of my favorite rose scents. The resin/oud element is a deep, long-lasting addition to the popular flower. It is definitely unisex, but only for men who are willing to wear rose and women who are willing to wear something not so sweet. I get a decent lasting power out of Rose Anonyme (at least 6 hours), and I find it has strength without packing a massive punch like some florals can. If you like oriental florals, I highly recommend giving this one a shot. Of all the Ateliers, it's one of the absolute best.

This a great composition. Really , award winning great. I smell every note in the breakdown.Fresh, dry ( as in Papyrus dry-not powder, thank god there is no powderiness in here), and Rosy with a capitol R. I'm very torn on whether I will keep this because when the rubber hits the road, this hyper-realistic rose doesn't exactly scream masculine to me. A no-brainer for female rose lovers though. An amazing achievement for Atelier, without question their Jewel.

This is the first Rose scent that I’ve tried and my initial reaction after I carefully let a couple of droplets hit my skin was of a strange, almost dirty, soily rose combined with a balsamic sharpness. The rose faded quite fast on my skin leaving a sweet medicinal scent that although unique is not really the kind of scent that I can see myself wearing. It’s okay, but I need something with a bit more testosterone to it. Rose Anonyme would be a lovely signature scent for a nice middle class English lady, but as I’m a big beefy bearded bloke I think I’ll give this one a miss. The scent might have ‘Anonyme’ (meaning masculine and feminine) in its title, but it’s an unmistakably feminine scent, and nice as it is, I don’t think that I’d get away with wearing this one.

this starts off with rose and ginger. it's mildly alcoholic, and reminds me of ginger ale with some zing. the rose is very fruity. i've seen perfume reviewers say "chewy" rose and i wasn't sure what they meant, but i think maybe this is it. it's a thick, luscious, fruity rose. i also get some oud and patchouli here, and the patchouli blooms even more after being on the skin awhile. I think benzoin comes to the forefront as well. this seems like a slightly gourmand-oud rose to my nose.

i see this rose as dark pink/magenta or deep red rose. definitely not pink, white or yellow. i love the stage when the oud gets more leathery and less medicinal. it's heaven!

Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme strikes me with a very piercing rose in the opening. The fruity tartness and sweetness of rose seems to be amplified in this concotion. Combined with patchouli and sheer oud, it turns out to be a dark purple, candied, jam-like, almost syrupy rose. Afterwards, when the rose calms down, the slightly medicinal twist of light oud, dry herbal papyrus and patchouli is revealed, which is quite interesting and quite helpful to balance the candy sweetness of rose.

The sillage is moderate and the longevity is around 11 hours. What I find interesting in Rose Anonyme is that the scent, especially the rose in it, feels dark purple, but at the same time, it's crytal clean and high-pitched. If you like sweet rose-pathouli, Rose Anonyme could be interesting to try, but be prepared for the initial high C of the sweet rose.

Rose Anonyme is a lovely versatile scent. Vanille Insensee was the first that I tried from Atelier Cologne so I wanted to try Rose Anonyme. I love rose and wanted to try this out. I need some more of an "oomph" from Rose Anonyme. (I need more patchoul and benzoin, more, more, more!) This is a nice sweet warm rose because of the benzoin. (I LOVE benzoin) I expected a femme fatale kind of scent - dark, earthy resinous rose because I was looking at the notes. I am not familiar with oud but thankfully it is well blended here. If you have no experience with oud like me, give this a try, hopefully you will like it. This scent is nice but I will look elsewhere for something darker and warmer. The sillage is soft and lasted hours on my skin. (small decant)

A familiar rose and oud combo which you can find it in tons of other brands nowadays.
This one is more toward the fresh side and I believe you can wear it all year round.
The opening is a semi fresh and semi sweet rose with some oud (not too much) to give it a dark and bitter aura.
I can smell a sharp and green smell in the background too that is because of patchouli.
After about 5 minutes the soft oud note is gone and now scent has more fresh feeling.
In the mid as I said oud is completely gone and I can smell a fresh rose note with some creamy sweetness that has both vanilla and musk feeling and stronger patchouli note.
This is definitely a feminine fragrance!
For only 5 minutes at the start it has a soft woody feeling and then it's gone and you have a fresh rose water smell with some sweetness and some herbal/green patchouli (not earthy at all!)
Projection is good and longevity is around 5 hours on my skin.

Perfumes can be funny things.Scents you love in your bath or oil burner suddenly do weird things when you spray them on your skin. Rose is one of those scents for me. I absolutely adore the smell, but as soon as I try it in a perfume, I smell like an old folks home.

I've had some luck with Imogen Rose by Lush, which is a lovely, powdery rose that has none of the "someone needs to change their Tena Lady" whiff that I get from so many other rose perfumes. But while nice, it's a very light and flirty rose. A "girly" kind of a perfume. I was looking for something more womanly, edgy and sensual. I think I've found it here.

For me, this is definitely a night time fragrance (although I tend to favour light perfumes, so I may be in a minority there). The rose is beautifully realistic and the ginger adds a lovely pinch of spice, never turning this into a fully spicy scent, mind you, it remains floral at its core.

I was a bit concerned that the mix of oud, patchouli and incense would all become a bit too much, but they never do. There's a smoky, woody suggestion from them that offer the rose a bit of an edge, but they never fully steal the show.

Longevity is pretty amazing - 3 sprays lasted me morning till night. Sillage is moderate.

I'm not a big fan of rose-based fragrances, but I really dig this one. The first few moments after application are a bit scary to me - you do get a very bright and pungent rose on the top. But, this settles into its mid- and base-notes quite quickly. What I experienced through the bulk of its development is a well-judged rose note that melts into the benzoin and patchouli in a very thoughtful way.

The Oud here is not particularly forceful - but it too plays a supporting role as the initial blast of rose slowly sinks into a quicksand-like combination of alternately smooth and spicy woody notes. At times, the fragrance can seem a tad synthetic and unnatural. However, the combination of notes here creates a particularly compelling illusion. Christianne's review captures this scent beautifully - it becomes increasingly more difficult to discern individuals notes as time passes. I couldn't exactly tell you what I smell after a couple hours have passed - but I know it smells great.

Rose Anonyme was not love at first sight for me. I got it for Christmas and it wasn't what I expected. I was expecting this very vivid rose and it seemed like all I got was incense and papyrus. I wasn't wowed so I put it away and didn't try it again until the end of March.

I decided to give it another try and to my surprise...it was love at SECOND sight. How did I miss the beauty in this the first go round? I think sometimes when we expect one thing and get another, it confuses our brain and we aren't able to appreciate it in the same way. Because on the second wearing I wasn't really "expecting" anything and just put it on and headed out without giving it much thought. Then BOOM this fascinating smell hit me about 20 minutes later. Unlike others, I do not get a realistic rose smell...the rose is more like a surreal rose backdrop for an exotic, almost wine-like, lush, magical concoction that is difficult to pinpoint exactly. It is almost like the scent itself remains anonymous. You know all these notes are there but you can't pinpoint them or touch them. It reminds me of those dreams where you are reaching for something and every time you try to grab it, it disappears in your hand. But you can see it and it is so real and vivid but...not attainable.

To me, Rose Anonyme is like a muted vision of a much larger scent...like this gigantic vibrant portrait of rose, incense, papyrus, oud, bergamot and patchouli that you are looking at through a cloudy window. It is so beautiful and you desperately want to know more but it is determined to remain partially anonymous.
Which makes you want it even more.

I'm not so fond of Atelier fragrances, at least of their first cologne creations, which i found perfect in technical aspects but lacking originality. I like to see that with creations like Vanille Insensee, Vetiver Fatal and Rose Anonyme they kept what they were good for and invested and what was missing, more creativity. The name seems almost ironic to me, since i was expecting another saffron-rose-oud combination, another anonimous rose fragrance that while being pretty gorgeous could have been done by anyone else. It's not the case here and i'm happy to see that i was wrong. I like this rose, it's soft, slightly sweet, powdery, and i don't know if it has saffron or note, but i do get something at the opening that makes me think of saffron, and it's an impression that it doesn't last. The oud it's not aggresive, it's and oud more in the veins of montale red aoud or maybe even the Midnight Oud, altough i don't see the similarity between the two fragrances. What stands out on this one to me is a sweet and woody background, that makes me think of one Thierry Mugler Amen variations, as if the have made an Amen Pure Rose. Montale-like rose-oud and Amen? Yes, it could be a mess, but it's has been fine tuned and it's gorgeous, comfortable, rich, a real pleasure to smell on skin.

Wasn't sure what to expect with another rose-oud combo, but this one is actually pretty nice. Both dark and sweet, without going too extreme on either aspect. The opoponax and papyrus definitely add some distinctivness to what seems like a bit of a tired forumla by now. Towards the end, I got a lot more of patchouli, which is no complaint since I love that note. There is also something about this scent that reminds me of being in NYC, but I can't put my finger on it. Overall, this is great, just wish it lasted longer on me.

Atelier Rose Anonyme is a lovely rose and papyrus fragrance, with not much of the powerful bitter oud edge to my nose despite the note votes here. The rose is very natural and a bit dusty smelling and the papyrus is, well, like wet paper. The combination is, surprisingly, beautiful. There are some incense/patchouli sorts of notes in the base that complement the rose-papyrus very nicely.

A strange and illuminating thing has happened to me with rose. When I first became obsessed by perfumes, I disliked rose, even hated it, especially when it was a dominant note. I am not sure why, but it made me gag a bit, perhaps some childhood association with bad shellfish or overdosed old ladies who had lost their sense of smell. Besides, Real Men don't wear rose because it smells girlie. Still, I knew many people love rose, so I decided to find a rose-dominated scent that I could tolerate - eventually I settled on Yver Rocher Rose Absolue (now discontinued), whose only floral note is rose but with a rich melange of oriental notes to back it up. Since I have always loved rich oriental base notes, they somehow made the rose top and middle accessible to me. At first I kind of liked Rose Absolue (amazing enough given that most rose made me want to throw up), and then I liked it quite a lot, and then I LOVED it. It took many months and wears for this transformation to happen. It was still my only real rose perfume, but I decided to take the plunge and see if I liked others. And I did! My olfactory response to rose has largely reversed. Now I find a rich dusty complexity to a good rose note where before I found cloying old lady. Astonishingly, I even like some rose near soliflores, such as Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose (my favorite because it is dirt cheap and smells divine) and Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose. Knock me over with a feather.

Sweet and clean. Warm and fresh. Feminine and distinguishing. Delicate and powerful.

It is 1 degree below the zero and I am not sure that it is the right time to wear this fragrance, but I like it. I would love it if it was snowing, because of the strong contradiction between the warm rose and cold snowflakes, but now it is just dry cold. The oud note is really strong in the beginning, but after an hour the rose is the ruler. It is pure oud/rose combination, which is so pleasant to wear. As a cologne it is not very long-lasting, at least on my skin. Yes, it is similar to JHG Midnight oud, but in Rose Anonyme the rose is more powerful. So, I like this fragrance very much. :-) It is like a sunshine in a grey day.

One of the most interesting Rose and Oud perfumes i've ever smelled!

There is a note in the opening that i can only describe as that same ozonic smell that you can detect with those "ozone" air purifier machines. It almost takes your breath away if you inhale it deeply.
I'm sure this is the Oud. There are many kinds of interpertations of Oud, and this is a very woody kind.

Upon initial spray, you get the beautiful vibrant Rose, the ozonic Oud, and a VERY sweet, candied sweetness. Theres something about all of Atelier Colognes perfumes that are all very natural and organic. Smelling this makes me want to eat it!

Unfortunately, it doesn't make me want to WEAR it. Its far too sweet for me. That sweetness to me is as cloying as can be. And it lingers for a long time.

Had they either toned down the sugar, or omitted it completely, i'd be enjoying this much more.
The Rose is this is simply stunning! The Oud in this is just so interesting!

The longevity is excellent! Projection is above average, and presentation is very minimal.

If you like your Rose & Oud perfumes, very fresh, and very sweet, you definitely need to try this one!

ROSE ANONYME indeed is a marvelous creation and it smells nothing like other oud-rose fragrances I've tried. It opened with this fresh, tart, almost gourmand rose followed by a sharp oud accord with balmy nuances creeping in now and then. I was instantly in love. The heart brought patchouli and more dominant balmy notes, especially I loved how rose stayed true and linear all the way. On the drydown oud was gone and I was left with cold rose + patchouli and bits of papyrus.

A slight negative thing for me was the fact that after 5 hours it changes to a soapy skin scent. I did hope it would last as pretty as it was at least 7 hours, that would really make me want a bottle of my own. Now I might snatch a 30ml bonus bottle when I purchase from Atelier Cologne, but due to lack of staying power I would not go for the big size.

Rose Anonyme is one of the most interesting rose compositions I have ever tried--and I have tried quite a few!

It has rose, and it has oud...but it smells nothing like other typical rose-oud combos on the market that are completely overpowered by medicinal oud.

The rose does fade pretty quickly from this one, but the drydown leaves you with a spicy, savory aroma that reminds me of an expensive soap moreso than a spice rack. It's sophisticated, unusual, dark, and sexy. I could imagine a man or a woman wearing this.

RA is a charming rose composition.

RA is sweet and pleasant but not cloying. The Turkish rose is obviously the star of this composition, prevalent from start to end. The smell of the rose here is modern and unisex. It is complemented by this semi-sweet backdrop headed by the benzoin and followed by the opoponax. The oud and the patchouli are tamed, perceivable but very minimally. Oud tends to repel me when strong, but it is soft and pleasant in RA.

I detect a little of the bergamot at the start but it quiets down within the first minute or two. I don't detect the ginger. Some people detect the papyrus during the dry down, but I didn't smell it--it's supposed to smell similar (but not quite) to a dry/smoky grass, similar to brown paper or pages of an old book.

The silage and duration are above average to me.

I really like this composition. I think you can wear it day or night, formally and informally in any season.

Within the first hour of wear, RA does smell a lot like JHAG's Midnight Oud, but whatever the "oudy" note in RA appears at the top, it virtually disappears on me after a couple hours. What I'm left with is a Rose and Myrrh combination that's very pretty but very different from the first spray. This perfume is a Gemini. If I want my "oudy" note to endure, I'll buy the JHAG Midnight Oud. I'm happy having RA as a decant...not worth a FB for me at its price point.

Rose Anonyme is a rather medicinal smelling rose fragrance. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy wearing it, but it does have a strong presence of resinous oud and green, earthy patchouli.

I have been testing many Arabian oils as of late, and I can see many similarities between them and Rose Anonyme. Al-Rehab's Saat Safa is one example of a similar spicy rose and oud combination. For a cologne, this fragrance packs quite a punch. The projection is so strong that I would hesitate to spray this fragrance more than once.

In order to enjoy Rose Anonyme, you'd probably need a healthy appreciation of red rose and oud wood. Thankfully I like these notes in perfume, so I'm quite happy to wear this fragrance during Winter or out on a date.

Rose Anonyme almost doesn't smell like an Atelier Cologne. This house is known for their soft, crisp and summery scents, but this fragrance is totally different. I would consider it a stand-out.

I'll have to agree that Rose Anonyme is linear in terms of composition, but I wouldn't acknowledge that as a bad thing. For what it's worth, I'm really digging this fragrance, however I know that I have to be in the mood to wear it.

The lasting power is good, around five hours, and the sillage, (as I mentioned earlier), is quite strong. Whatever you do, don't mistake Rose Anonyme for a Summer scent. A little goes a long way.

Yet another rose-scent? Yes and a wonderful one!
To my nose and on my skin this fragrance is a pure joy, sophisticated yet simple, somehow mouth-watering but nothing gourmand here. It simply catches the spirit ofa great rose with an eastern vibe.
They call it cologne but it's not. It's very enveloping like a cloud. I don't smell so much oud in this one, only a right tad to give ooomph without killing the rose. Good longevity.

To the general nose, this will smell like many of the Rose Oud cominbations out there but this one is significantly unique, to the trained nose. Firstly, this is a VERY well composed fragrance with high quality ingredients. The addition of Frankincense ( Somali incense) , Benzoin ( Loban) and the most important Indian Papyrus, give this fragrance a very breath taking aroma. The Somali Incense, gives it a clean feel, while the benzoin adds a sweetness to it. The Papyrus dominates the drydown and envelopes the Rose, Oud and Incense in a very compelling way. Sillage is medium to good and Longevity is excellent. This is not a heavy fragrance like most Rose/Oud fragrances ,but a translucent fragrance with great longevity and good sillage. 9/10

Absolutely! Takeitupthenose, you are right on it. Its strikenly similar to Noir de Noir by TF but enhanced. It depends on how your body chemistry wears it than it morphs into a nice frag. So the first time I put this on I said to myself this smells wonderful. The second time I put this on I said to myself...this is terrific. The third time which is today I can tell you this is full bottle worthy..but there is a catch. As soon as I put this on today I realized something. It had a very familiar aroma. About 10 mintues in once the notes really began to blend I figured out exactly what it was. This is the little sister of Noir de Noir from Tom Ford. They are strikling close. Almost like George Foreman naming all his kids George____ and for good reason.

This is nowhere like Rose Oud by Kilian nor New York Oud by Bond. This is nothing like the Ouds of Montale nor Dior's Isaphan. Those are sour roses mixed with heavier oud accords.

Nope this is one is more of the rose that you find in Noir de Noir. It is a dark rose (though fluffy) mixed with a very glazed sweetness for sure given by the benzoin and opapanax. It has a slight resinic note but no need to worry about it being overly balmy. I think the patchouli helps it stick around longer than it would and is really on a pier supporting the fragrance much like a pier supports a foundation. You know its there but you never really see it. I don't know what pappyrus smells like and won't pretend to here.

Overall those who like Noir but find it too heavy may want to reach for this. Those who love Noir but want something more user friendly in higher temperature would love this. Those who hate New York Oud or Montales black oud may find this one quite appealing. This is definitely more feminine than the aforementioned fragrances but still masculine enough for a guy like me to love and enjoy.

I own Noir and wear it all year so I don't think I would need this today. But as that starts to dwindle and I refuse to pay TF's outrageous price again I may reach for this one as an alternative to my heavier Rose/Oud combos.

I give this a solid 4/5 and thats only because of it's performance. I know it is a cologne absolute but I still want it to perform like an EDP ;o)

Edit: 4/23/2013 - Quick update. I am actually getting pretty good longevity out of this one. It is more subdued; however, I think anyone sitting next to you in a meeting or a date, or a dinner would get subtle whiffs that I think they would find pleasing (granted they like great fragrances). I am moving this to 4.5 and a perfect pick for spring through early fall in colder climates and maybe a year around for us residing in warmer climates. I would even argue a great summer fragrance for those who want something heavier but not cloying.

one beautiful fragarance, this house just keeps on impressing me with their scents my next purchase I could see this as being someone's signature scent, the opening of this is breathtaking ,just that rose opening but so softly done, not overpowering at all and the combination of other notes just makes for a clean woody and balmy fragrance with that hint of rose....checking it now for longevity but one of those that when you reapply lightly it is not wasted , just refreshes an already
wonderful fragrance ... two thumbs up..
smells like I am in the land of OZ...

I'm really, really happy to come across Atelier Cologne and Rose Anonyme. Beautiful scent with prominent yet not overpowering rose. It's like smelling rose on a bed of papyrus and patchuli leaves, with a woody note coming from oud and a sprinkle of bergamot. Bergamot lifts this scent up and saves it from being too sweet. I'd call it an evening, night rose scent, as opposite to day rose scents like Hermes Rose Ikebana or Diptyque Une Rose. This rose is flirty and a bit naughty. I love this rose a lot. Next on my to buy list.

Update: I absolutely adore this fragrance. I tried other rose + oud combination (Rose Oud by Kilian, Rose Nacree du Desert Guerlain, Midnight Oud Juliette has a gun, Noir de Noir and Cafe Rose Tom Ford, Dior Oud Isphahan, Bond no 9 NY Oud) and I love Rose Anonyme but unfortunately the winner is Guerlain Rose Nacree du Desert. Having said that I must admit RA is definitely less rosy and oudy than the other fragrances. I'll get it at some point anyway as I think it will be great summer scent:-)

This is a fantastic smelling rose scent that can be worn by both men and women. The longevity is around 12 hrs on me and the sillage is excellent as well. I tried many different fragrances during my quest for the perfect rose scent for men and this one was the one I chose.

I am trying several rose scents and have just received my sample of Rose Anonyme from TPC. While I tried to like it I don't think I can. My skin doesn't want to wear this well and the opening (benzoin, citrus, ginger???) burned my nose and made me sneeze it was so strong. Then right away the scent went to nothing but rose and oudh--and stayed there. However, as the scent went on for a couple of hours some complexity developed and I caught myself saying "Do I or don't I like this?" I'll try it another day to see if it's my nose but I'm so undecided I'm going to have to ask for a couple of opinions. Something I rarely do. This scent does have amazing projection but one spray in the air with a walk through would be all anyone else in an elevator with you could tolerate.

The proposition of crossing the bright effusive tenor-like quality of an eau de cologne (the genre, not the dilution) with the concentration of an eau de parfum is a wonderful idea, but is not particularly new. Previous attempts have tried to make the classical edc notes (citrus, herbs, etc.) last all day. The only success from this approach that occurs to me is the typically male, cologne-like chypres from mid-20th century France such as Chanel’s Pour Monsieur, Monsieur Givenchy, Rochas’s Moustache and Eau d’Hermes. Rose Anonyme twists the challenge and brings the sentiment of an edc to new accords. Rose Anonyme comes off fresh-faced and pretty like a cologne, but has the patience of an EDP. It's simplicity is easy to wear, but it is far from simpleminded.

Skipping the solely citrus focus of an EDC, RA instead plays on a number of facets of Rose scents. The lighter, brighter aspect of rose, initially highlighted by bergamot, give way to a loud, rosy pink peony quality, and eventually to a dusky rosewood like feel. This is all filtered through a reedy incense and a metallic musk. I think the "ginger" note is a red herring, redirecting our focus so that we read the synthetic quality of the musk as something more botanical. Not exactly Nature Boy, I say wear your synthetic proudly. This is a wonderful and inventive perfume. Don't bother feeding me the nature trip.

Not just beautiful to wear, RA is that refreshing reminder that there are new ideas to be explored in perfumery.

This cologne is AMAZING! Just the first sniff from the bottle grabbed me right away. It is the exact scent I smelled years ago in a perfumery in Marrakech and it brought back wonderful memories of the rose-scented gardens of Morocco. The rose is authetic and wonderful and the there is woody, sweet, warm smell that gives it an incredible amber scent. On the skin it remains consistent and the longevity is great. According to the Atelier Cologne site the top notes are: Bergamot, ginger and Turkish rose. The middle notes are: Turkish rose, incense and oud. The base notes are: Patchouli, papyrus and Benjoin. I just can't find the nose behind this perfume. Anyone?

Gorgeous woody rose! Works well as a masculine and is one of the few oud-prominent fragrances that doesn't crash and burn on my skin. This is how I like my rose fragrances - stark and woody (see Czech & Speake No. 88 for another example). It doesn't last too long (I'd wager five hours at the most), but damn does it smell good!

Atelier Cologne ROSE ANONYME "cologne absolue" (isn't that an oxymoron?) opens with a striking resemblance to Thierry Mugler Jardin d'Etoiles entry ANGEL LA ROSE. The first word out of my mouth was actually: patchouli. Then the rose swept in and I felt as though I really was wearing the Mugler flanker for a couple of minutes.

ROSE ANONYME continues to develop, however. What I perceive next is the emergence of a very strong and dominant papyrus note. Because focal papyrus is rare in my experience of perfumes, I have a very strong memory of it, and it appears most markedly of all in Jessica Simpson FANCY NIGHTS. I'd thought that the reason why I did not take to that perfume was because it was a vat-produced Parlux juice. Now, after sniffing ROSE ANONYME, I think that it must be the papyrus which makes me less than enthused about that perfume, too.

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what exactly it was that I was smelling, but once I did, the connection to FANCY NIGHTS seemed unmistakeable. ROSE ANONYME is a nonlinear, very interesting journey to take, but because of my papyrus problem, I won't be pursuing this creation further. Anyone who likes FANCY NIGHTS will probably fall in love with ROSE ANONYME, as the quality is much better and papyrus also abounds.

No matter how many I try, I just cannot get down with a rose perfume. This one does come close, though, and I think if rose just smelled better on me, then I would really go for it.

It is simply beautiful - rose surrounded by oud, patchouli and papyrus. On my skin it is really great (also in terms of longevity and sillage). Extraordinary, special, magnificent.

From time to time decision of buying perfume could be a wrong decision. We are very impressed by the smell in the first minutes and we think we are in love with it. Unfortunately after splaying it all over the body many things are going wrong, the heart of fragrance is not as we were expecting, the base is boring. Than the perfume will spend rest of its life on the cabinet shelf.
Rose anonyme was my almost blind buy. Almost because I got the sample and after few minutes I decided, this is the fragrance for my vacation 2012. So I spent money for huge bottle, 200 ml big. Going home I had terrible feeling I did another horrible choice, because rose fragrances are difficult and the only few I know are worth attention. Fortunately I was stupid and really wrong, my decision was one of the best I did during last few years. Rose anonyme is a miracle in the perfumery world where roses an on the stage. Rose with a lot of sweet and very juicy lemon tart. So delicious and pleasant I can't resistant and I'm spending hours smelling myself  and my clothes, people around asking constantly what is so beautiful, where it does come from. I don't remember to be more proud wearing other fragrances. The beginning is delicious because of vanilla, the heart because of lemon and oranges and the end is another story, deep mysterious and woody because of touch of oud.   Rose is present all the time and its concentration doesn't change too much. In my opinion this is very unique to keep one ingredient so stable while others evolve so much. Another miracle is the lack of musk which i love generally but hate in rose fragrances. In RA the musk doesn't exist and this is so wonderful.
There is also something else giving the RA different dimension during development. This is wonderful papyrus. I'm saying wonderful because papyrus is extremely difficult ingredient that can improve quality of perfume, but it can also kill it making completely unwearable. Papyrus in RA is dry and mysterious, not harsh at all. It doesn't have earthy and detritus like smell. Here it is very grassy and oriental in the same time. It gives coumarin like effects - I love it.
Rose anonyme is perfect fragrance for any season but more suitable for spring and late summer or fall when days are not too hot helping fragrance to develop slowly. I'm afraid that in hot weather RA will disappear to quickly because it not a silage monster - it is perfect as cologne and it is even stronger and better than many EDT but it is not EDP for sure. So I would recommend to buy regular 200 ml bottle rather than miniature the company offers, 30 ml. RA is truly unisex fragrance it doesn't have sex. It is perfect for anyone who like very good professionally done perfume. I can say it perfect for beginners in the fragrance world and people with fully developed taste. I can imagine Tilda Swinton wearing it as her signature fragrance.

This is very erotic to me! Smells like chocolate and roses which there is no chocolate, must be the ginger! Blended beautifully! I only have a small decant! Love at first scent! This is a panty/boxer dropper for sure!

I only got a decant of this since most of the Atelier line I've sampled while truly beautiful were just too sheer for my taste. And I'm so glad I did sample this one and also the new Vetiver Fatal because they are both just drop dead gorgeous.

Unlike any other fragrance I've sampled and I've sampled A LOT! This is a triumph from top notes to drydown, definitely not linear it unfolds itself from its rosey beginning until it rests on a lovely bed of incense. Definitely FBW!
