It smelled quite nice, but was very subtle. It warmed to mostly vanilla on me, with only a little woody/spicy scent behind it. It was pretty and light and would be great for someone who just wants a basic vanilla or "creamy" fragrance.
Cheap synthetic vanilla incense and coriander. This reeks. Vanilla -incense sounds great to most people, but this is awful. Stinky and unbearable; wonder if this is street vendor made?
This is a dry, powdery vanilla that brings to mind the crumbly frosting around the edges of the mixing bowl that has hardened into a vanilla crust which cannot be re-constituted. That said, it is not a sweet butter cream vanilla, so much as a vanillin powder scent. I know what you mean about it being almost aquatic, Pa.princess. There is something very faint, which occasionally causes me to turn my head, wondering if that particular note came from Vanilla Insensee, or somewhere else. It's not actually an aquatic by any means, but here and there, something similar in color emerges from the wood notes and catches me off guard.
The spice, woods, and mild citrus notes create a kind of synthetic undercurrent as if the vanilla has been "polluted" instead of complimented. It's also somewhat reminiscent of a low-mid range hotel room when you first walk through the door. No-smoking.
This is my favorite, signature scent. Actually, it's kind of the cologne that got me interested in fragrances at all. I got a sample and fell in love. I have a very addictive personality and I couldn't get enough of it. Once I was finally able to dish out the money, I got this in the 200 mL and don't regret it one bit. I love citrus and vanilla both so much - this is my ideal combination. It's not too sweet, not too anything. It's sophisticated but not old lady-ish, light yet woody and a bit musky. I find it to be perfectly balanced and I don't think I'll ever get tired of this scent.
American men are said to crave Vanilla scents on women. Women perfume noses for the most part have a hard time with super sweet scents. YET this one will please the men and the women. SO AMAZING and COMFORTING!
I loved this for about a month, then I got sick of it. It doesn't change on the skin. It's incense and vanilla--a very dry woody almost smoky vanilla. It's a nice scent and it lasts about 5 hours to 7 hours but it gets old fast.
A stunning citrus-vanilla-woody combo! So very delicious. It's really a cologne type of perfume, with a surprising vanilla enveloping everything. But I must insist upon the fact that vanilla is secondary to citrus ( orange and lime ) and woods. There is sweetness but not nothing like cupcakes and vanillin sugar, not foody at all. It's somehow a juicy sweetness, coming from the sap of a freshly cut oak tree. The citrus brings freshness. The perfume has a certain warmth, it must be from amber, although amber usually gives me the impression of thickness in a perfume and this one is very "crispy" and transparent without being light. I cannot detect any flowers here, or oakmoss. It's all about blond woods, citrus and vanilla. I can even smell a hint of black tea and coffee rinds.
Smells natural, lovely and uplifting . Lasting power is good, or even very good, silage is a average on my skin. It's inoffensive but that doesn't mean boring or unnoticeable; it's like a demi-sec, a little sweet champagne, sparkling, pleasant, cheerful, served in a lovely crystal glass that makes musical notes when touched - simply put, it's difficult not to love it!
This was the first scent ( and up to now last) perfume that I tried from this brand, and I am sold! I'd love to try others.
I can see how this can smell delicious on a man too, but somehow I think it's better for women. Daytime or any time wear. Gorgeous! A must try for all vanilla, citrus or woody lovers!
No cupcakes or cake frosting here! This vanilla is so fresh. Almost aquatic. Just gorgeous!! I received a sample from Atelier and went straight for the huge bottle!! Long lasting and it always gets compliments.
BTW, Insensee does not mean incense...it is the French word for insane or crazy.
I bought this blindly, and at first I liked it. But after wearing it a couple of times, I realized it's not so great after all.
It (shockingly) reminds me very much of the original Burberry for women. It's vanilla, woods, and citrus. Although orange is not listed as a note, I do smell a vanilla/orange combination on my skin, and I know I get the same effect from Burberry.
This is the 3rd attempt at writing a review because I keep trying so hard to like it, but I know now why I don't. It's just too tangy. I actually find the vanilla to be quite sweet, but the sourness of the citrus seems to fool the nose into not noticing the sweetness so much.
The woody note is prominent, and this is where it's different from Burberry. It's smokier than Burberry, which gives it an incense-like effect. I know that "insencee" does not mean incense, however many woods are burned as incense, and I get a slight smokiness from the oak here. To me it does have an incense-like effect.
I still feel that I've smelled something like this before, and it's Vetyver 46 by Le Labo, but I find Le Labo to be richer, deeper, and more complex. And the citrus is not nearly so intense, so it's easier for me to tolerate. I don't think Vetyver 46 is meant to be a vanilla perfume, but it develops into a beautiful unisex vanilla incense, and it's not as sweet as this. I am going to have to swap this one for something I like better, but if sourness doesn't bother you, I can certainly see how Vanille Insensee is very lovable to others. I just feel like I already own another more perfect version of it.
I"ve been sampling this off and on for a few months now. I had to, because I've been on a 2 year mission to find the perfect vanilla. This and Tommi Sooni's version are taking top spot.
My God, this is glorious! This vanilla is slow moving and thick, oozing with ambery richness. Not a gourmand at all. I"m surprised Benzoin is not listed (or did I miss it?) as the dry down reminds me of Guerlain's Bois D'armenie a little bit.
Anyhow, if you are on a vanilla pilgrimage, don't pass this one up.
I'm just enamored with this perfume, I have in my collection more than 100 items and this is the one that I wear the most, such a delight and beautiful scent.
this is not your regular vanilla scent it is very distinctive and one of kind. warm, gentle, sweet and sophisticated, suitable for any occasion and highly versatile.
on my last trip to Paris, I went to a department store where I talked to one of Atelier cologne representatives and I was told that it will be discontinued or the price will be increased because of the price of the raw material has risen. therefore I bought 2 additional bottles just in case.
I can't see anybody would dislike it and I would be baffled if so.
Just give it a try you won't regret it.
9.5/10 for the quality
Vanille Insensee has been receiving glowing reviews all over the web ever since it came out; it seems almost everyone loves it. I'm afraid, that set the mark too high for me, as I'm somewhat disappointed by the real juice:
VI is a woody vanilla, dry with a touch of citrus, that to my citrus hating nose, is simply more than I can stand. It lacks any kind of sweetness but tends toward dryness/sharpness on me. Try as I might, it's impossible to like it as I have certain expectations from my vanillas (namely to be relaxing & comforting) though I can appreciate how well done it is.
This is certainly unisex and as everyone said, the lasting power and sillage are not only above that of a regular cologne, but better than most EDPs out there.
My husband similarly smells. Because this smell unites to me with the man′s scent.
There is very pleasant and surely unisex. Very nice and original vanilia . This is not the citrus- cologne scent..
It is proper to test :)
What a wonderful and unique vanille scent! I love it!
Just read on CaFleureBon, the parfumer was Ralf Schwieger, who said "Vanille Insensee was an attempt to create a fresh vanilla which is not sweet but a little dark." I think it was sucessful, congratulations! :)
OK, I’m not goanna write long review. In my opinion this is the best vanilla scent ever made. Nothing artificial, nothing sweet. Very woody and perfect interpretation of this unusual fruit. Much better than other vanillas on the market. I was hopping to find this kind of smell in Duel by Diptique, however this one is much better. I would suggest trying this for both, man and woman as well.
So this is cologne? I am surprised, want of the best quality perfumes with excellent longevity I've ever tried. It opened with delicious vanilla, but then cedar arrived and kinda ruined that for me and I was left with something that I just don't like for 8+ hours, then I went to bed woke up this morning and I was greeted with the most soft, tender vanilla on my wrist. 20 hours and it's still there. Bravo.
Now I must think how I can befriend the 8 hour long torture of cedar. Oh cedar why, why, why you don't like me so much?
To my nose, Vanille Insensee smells simply of vanilla and talcum powder (woods?). It's pleasant, transparent, and long lasting. Although Vanille Insensee is labeled as a unisex fragrance I think it might be more suitable for women as it is very pretty. With that said, I do believe the talcum powdery aspect of Vanille Insensee gives the fragrance a freshness that may work for a man who wishes to smell sweet and clean.
Yes, it’s vanilla, but the vanilla is mixed with citrus, fruity-floral, and woody things. At first it seems like it’s going to be a generic commercial scent, but the standard-issue fruity-floral-woody notes subside within minutes, leaving a sweet and slightly citrusy, musky, translucent vanillin, which I find highly enjoyable.
I love natural Bourbon vanilla, the ultimate gourmand scent, but I’m also a big fan of the “sheer” vanilla note created mainly by simple vanillin and/or ethyl vanillin, which is what seems to be used here. As the scent settles down, it just gets better and better. I would classify this as a vanilla-musk scent, but the combination of mossy woods and musk is richer and warmer than the “white musk” that’s typically paired with vanilla.
Once the scent stabilizes, it stays linear for at least 6-8 hours, much longer on clothing, with considerable sillage. I give Vanille Insensée fairly high marks as a comfortable, eminently wearable perfume, and would gladly accept a gift of a bottle to use as an “everyday” vanilla fragrance if I were a consumer of FBs. If you like vanilla, this is definitely worth a try.
I am in LOVE with Vanille Insensee! Just for clarification purposes, "Insensee" does not refer to incense. Its literal translation from French to English is "insane". As described by the creators of Atelier Cologne, Vanille Insensee is a vanilla "out of its senses". In other words, it is a vanilla that is fresh and unexpected. And indeed it is! Vanille Insensee is a dry, woody vanilla with a breath of freshness. The woodiness in this is very light - you won't feel like you are in a woodshop. The opening consists of citruses and subtle spice. As those notes dry down, I am left with a soft, creamy, slightly sweet vanilla - not vanilla cake, but more vanilla bean. This fragrance (as well as the entire line) remains fresh and light throughout its wear, which is something I love. It is never heavy or cloying as long as you don't overdo it. For me, one spritz on the back of the neck lasts all day - no joke. On me, Vanille Insensee dries down to a vanilla infused creamy black milk tea with just a mere whisper of woods. Lasting power is great (8+ hours) and sillage is incredible. Perfect non-offensive everyday scent and office friendly. Vanille Insensee never fails to get me compliments. Definitely a favorite of mine!
A fresh presentation of vanilla that doesn't give you a toothache! Strong and present but cut with dry woods giving a really nice, clean delivery. Evocative of a blanc version of Yves Rocher Vanille Noire.
Lime is not blatant but gives this a feeling of airy freshness. Oakmoss gives a little of a tarry feel in the drydown, making Vanille Insensee a little viscous and plastic but in a botanic way (sounds like a contradiction, I know). I even detect a hint of jasmine in the drydown, but you have to be really still to catch its quiet whisper.
A very polite, sophisticated and comfortable vanilla fragrance that will work for warmer weather. Also, good sillage and excellent longevity.
Strong vanilla here, not a sugared vanilla, but as though sniffing an opened bottle of vanilla extract. I then get a bitter cigarette-ashy accompaniment to the vanilla mixed with some spice. Surely not my cup a jo, really does not work on my skin.
I appreciate the quality that goes into Vanilla Insensee. This one lasted a good 10 hours on my skin, with remarkably strong sillage throughout. The effect of this one achieves Atelier Cologne's "cologne absolute" concept better than some of the other scents in their collection.
It's somehow just not quite my taste.
The vanilla and oakmoss don't fully harmonize on my skin. Vanilla may be a basenote, but it's omnipresent in this scent and never fades. The fragrance alternates between green-mossy and spicy vanilla, never coalescing into a unified pleasant aroma. Scents that don't work on me often work on my husband. Alas, this one was almost pure vanilla on him and too sweet for his liking. Definitely one to sample before purchase.
I can understand Kchild's review that describes this perfume as having an "aura". However, Vanille Insensee on me opens with a strong chemical accord, then produces a really strong ozone effect that is very true to life. That throat catching sensation one gets justs minutes before a rainstorm. I believe this is the incense drydown, a note that usually works well with my skin.
Of course, I don't think ozone was the effect that Atelier Cologne were aiming at with this perfume.
...I can only put this down to a weird skin chemistry thing
I am swept away to a place of well being w/this fragrance. I bought it unsniffed, it showed up today and I already know that I need a backup bottle.
It reminds me a bit of a less sweet Barbara Bui. It's what I would call an "aura" scent. I can smell the feeling of it around me. As it warms on my skin it feels like it literally melds and becomes part of my molecular structure.
It starts off as a beautiful dry vanille that is now tranforming into the softest most delicious incense that I've ever had the pleasure of smelling.
This is distinct and at the same time I can't imagine it being offensive. This is perfect for so many situations. Air travel, work, dinner, kid's school activities, gatherings.....endless possibilities.
