*Note: This review is for the original Warm Vanilla Sugar body splash released by Bath and Body Works. It has since been reformulated within the past few years along with their image makeover. The new formula is much lighter than the original with much less depth and staying power. : (
This is (was) my go-to fragrance from Bath and Body works. It's so warm and comforting, I used to spritz it on before I went to bed on cold winter nights. The vanilla and heliotrope are the main stars in this confection, the sandalwood lending a slightly musky undertone. I've received numerous compliments and inquiries for this one! For whatever reason, it makes me think of Ancient Egypt. An Egyptian princess glittering with gold and jewels under the warm sun, the cool slate veranda beneath her feet, her airy linnen dress softly caressing her skin. An incense bowl of exotic spices wafting in the background.
This smells nothing like vanilla, at all. It smells like burnt sugar. Cookies catching fire in the oven. Like most B&BW scents, it gives me a murderous headache the instant I detect it. Not a good quality scent, at all. Heavy and cloying and very unpleasant.
seriously, i usually love gourmand scent, but this is just sickeningly sweet and got me a headache everytime i wear it, i try to like it,but i cant, its just too sweet, smells like burnt sugar with coconut shaving.but yea.the guys give me compliments when i wear it,maybe cos the vanilla?
A little boring
The spray and EDT are barely there. I use the lotion, and it is a little stronger. I got some bottles and I'm using them up by spraying this under almost every perfume I wear cuz I love vanilla always and it rarely messes up a frag. But its really weak. In fact, I prefer the Vanilla Bean Noel, and to me, the VBNoel smells like what I thought Warm Vanilla Sugar SHOULD smell like. If you can get this "free" (BOGO) or get it gifted to you, fine. Otherwise, I would not bother.
Coconut? None
Spicy? No way, in whose imagination?
Sandalwood? Yer kiddin, right?
This is straight-up watered-down synthetic vanilla.
This vanilla smells too synthetic to me. It may be the coconut note they chose clashing with the vanilla note...idk.
It is wearable, but it does smell cheap (which it is). Not my favorite bb&W fragrance. I definitely wouldn't buy it as a spray maybe as a sweet foody vanilla lotion to layer with another fragrance.
I remember when this first came out it seemed really sugary, but that was in the late 90's-early 2000's and long before the candy sugary perfume craze came about. Now I think it's quite tame on the sugar, and I smell more of the warm toasted vanilla notes. If you love this, then you'll probably be delighted with Lavanila Pure Vanilla perfume. The BBW version is bolder in a different way and really long lasting, but both have an impact and linger.
I don't LOVE it, but I like it very much...warm, cozy uncomplicated vanilla. I get a bit of a Play-Doh smell upfront, then it changes to a sugar cookie that lasts about 4 hours. I liken WVS to vanilla ice cream-- not the most unique/exciting flavor, but a basic that's good to have on hand. I don't get any rice or coconut notes at all... very linear and could be layered with other frags to warm them up.
Edit: I can't get past the synthetic Play-Doh note. My search for a natural smelling vanilla continues. :(
I go against the majority here when I say I find this vanilla to be more sandal-woody and sensual than the typical vanilla fume. I don't find this scent to be bakery cupcake sweet, more of a subdued sweetness that is well rounded by the rice-y smell. I do indeed like it :)
I've been wearing warm vanilla sugar since I've been a little girl. When I wear it I feel so relaxed and true to myself. I see the little girl inside of me and the woman I have become mesh into one. Warm vanilla sugar is an incredibly comfortable and cozy fragrance that I always feel like myself in.
everyone says that fragrances like jessica simpson fancy, aquolina pink sugar, britney spears fantasy, etcetc smells like cupcakes/cookies/sweets... nope. BBW warm vanilla sugar does. it smells like a straight up BAKERY. smells good, but i don't want to smell like fresh baked cookies and cakes. i don't like it as a perfume.. it's more suitable as a room fragrance.
sometimes I WANT to smell like cookies.
Another one of those Oh-man-I-wanna-eat-my-arm-when-I-put-this-on kind of scents! Yummies!
Warm Vanilla Sugar smells really excellent layered under DKNY Red Delicious. Red Delicious is too sharp and bitter for me on its own. Once I got the idea to spray my sample vial -that had been collecting dust- over WVS body cream, and it turned out to be a heavenly combo. It really softened out Red Delicious and added a great kick of sweetness that I wanted in it to begin with. Warm Vanilla Sugar on it's own is a gritty brown sugar and coconut vanilla scent. Very sweet, but also a little grainy. It smells fuzzy somehow.
Not very sophisticated but its a fun comfy smell that satisfies the inner tween. Unfortunately my mother caught a whiff of this on me and loudly proclaimed "What smells so awful?" So, not something I'll be wearing out, but definitely something I'll keep around just for me when I want to snuggle up in a sweater.
Very pretty and sweet Vanilla Scent, this is a non ofensive vanilla, great for every day, all year round if you're a sucker for vanilla like me! This is sweet cozy, smells like honey, cocunut and vanilla. Like a dessert!! Very pleasent! i like to smell it on people, i prefer more complex vanilla scents, like Hypnotic Poison, or The One, which i find somewhat similar, cause in both all i smell is caramel and vanilla, sweet, sweet scent, although The One in its edp version has better sillage and its more expensive.
Very warm. Perfect to use the body wash in a hot shower! This is like a warm simple yet fancy sophisticated fragrance! I smelt other vanilla things ALMOST like this but not the same! Huge vanilla and amber fan!
I get a lot of compliments when I wear this lotion from both men and women. The musk and sandalwood add a nice warm touch to the sugary vanilla. The scent lasts literally all day and I can always smell it on my clothes, jacket, etc. Very nice!
I got the body lotion and it smells like vanilla sun-screen. I am taking this back next time I go, I also prefer Vanilla Lace to this.
This is a very nice fragrance, soft and non-offensive. It smells like vanilla cookies baking in the oven. Yummy! I have the body spray on this and I layered it yesterday with shimmer lotion. I used about 5 or 6 sprays all over and it lasted at least 6 hours. I want the EDT on this one once my body spray runs out because it is so nice!
it smell simple warm and yummi!
i got a couple of compliments. not too many tho =)
perfect for the office or just to wear everyday simple.
It's pretty and comforting but it doesn't last long on me so I have to respray often. For the cost it's a good buy. (I haven't tried the new one as I've heard it's been reformulated so this is the review for the original.)
i second julieladybug, i like the VS vanilla lace more.but this is a great warm scent too, definitely for the colder seasons!
I like this scent but I tend to reach for Vanilla Lace by VS more. I feel like this is a little too strong and warm. It is nice and I can see how people love this I personally dont LOVE it but I like it. It just gets overlooked by my other perfumes.
i've been wearing this for a long time and still love it til today. warm, sweet vanilla and carmelized sugar. it just wraps you in sweetness, but not sickeningly so. i love it in winter. it just seems to warm you up. lasts about 2 hrs. on me. 8 out of 10.
I really hate this spray, to me it smells like dirty cigarette ashes with just a hint of vanilla. Maybe it just doesn't work well with my body chemistry, but it is gross. I have the lotion too, and sniffing in the bottle I can smell the dirty ashes smell before I even put it on my skin. I guess that is supposed to be the brown sugar scent in it, but I don't like it. It also doesn't last long on my skin either, a lot of Bath and Body Works sprays don't last that long to me. I wouldn't recommend this at all, I ended up taking this one back.
This is a scent that never goes out of style. It's not my top pick for perfume but it makes one hell of a bubble bath or lotion. It's appealing to almost everyone I know.
My cousin owns a whole set of this, and this is one of BBW's oldest scents, but I love it! It smells love brown sugar mixed with warm vanilla! Amazing stuff!
This isn't really a warm earthy "real" vanilla it's more sugary and food-y. It's okay but sometimes can make me sick. I would not wear it personally.
This one, along with a few others, have been changed. This used to be lovely before it became a cheap watered down generic version. If you have one of the first ones, enjoy!
This is just OK, a very safe perfume. To me it smells like a watered down vanilla, very thin and weak. Definitely not a warm, rich vanilla and not worth buying when there are so many amazing vanilla-based fragrances out there.
An absolutely wonderful scent. I owned 5 bottles of the travel size body mists and have given away one so far to my Mum's friend since she loves it too. I plan on giving another bottle to my little sister since I don't really need so many (I bought a pack of 5 for cheap which is why I had 5 to begin with).
The smell is very sweet and warm, so the name of the fragrance is well-suited to it. I adore vanilla smells (they are my favourite) and I can't resist the scent of this particular product. :) It's delicious and perfect for everyday, although go easy on it in the Summer as it might be too cloying for that time of the year.
I like this scent.
It really smells like vanilla.
Warm and comforting.
It is never overpowering.
I wear this fragrance whenever, I'm not in the mood for strong scents, but I still want to smell nice.
SMELLS GOOD BUT SILLAGE IS BARELY THERE
WHAT THE BUCK
This is one of my favorites, and is my favorite when it comes to bath and bodyworks fragrances. It reminds me of fall and is very comforting. It is also good for both old and young. It's the only fragrance I have that both me and my daughter like to use.
It's a wonderful warm vanilla blanket, cosy and soft on your skin. It stays with you for hours, it's simply a delight, one of the best vanillas for me out there. The coconut is hardly detectable, so it doesn't have that exotic beach effect and it's perfect for cold days. The drydown is rich and sweet like a cuddle: sandalwood, musk and rice (my new favourite note)!
I loooooooove this, it's so cozy and warm. It's a very nice vanilla that isn't too heady. I use the body lotion and it lingers nicely, like all day! And you can pick up the notes of rice and coconut, I mostly use it in the winter.
What´s the difference between the Fragrance Mist and the EDT, and is Fragrance Mist the same as Body Spray?
I just bought Tokyo Milk's "Sugar Sugar" (not in the Fragrantica DB) and it smells EXACTLY like B&BW's Warm Vanilla Sugar (both of which I like.) When I put them on together (different arms) I seriously cannot tell them apart. Longevity is also the same. That being said, the B&BW version is the better deal, you get twice as much for the same price. Amazing that Margot Elena nailed it, but anyone who has considered purchasing her frag, BE WARNED, unless you like more niche perfumes and would not dream of purchasing a B&BW frag - then "Sugar Sugar" is a good alternative.
you remember when Britney Spears was a young Lolita with sunkissed, glowing skin, sexy shorts, taut abs and a mischievious grin? This is Warm vanilla sugar.
Young and flirty, not to be taken very seriously.
Good fun while it lasts though.
i like it, vanilla, with a toasted marshmallow/ burnt sugar finish. its warm and inviting, wish it lasted longer. i like it in the summer and fall, good for everyday.
too much sugar and overwhelming vanilla. Too much sweet, neither sexy nor appetizing kind. I couldn't find the way to discribe but feels like fall in to swampy sugar bawl.
I agree that the spray has become diluted and modified. It is weak and very sugary smelling....not vanilla. I also experienced this same problem with the Vanilla Fantasy sprays by another company. They are trying to make more money by watering down the formula. If you want to keep real women buying your perfumes and sprays, don't water it down.
This has been my signature scent for over 10 years, I absolutely love it. HOWEVER, the formula has recently changed and it has been cheapened somehow. I loved how subtle and classy this scent was, but now it smells like something made for a teenager. CHEAP. I've recently had several people tell me I smell like candy and I agree (obviously not what I'm going for). I'm completely peeved and depressed that they changed the scent and/or base of the body spray. Has anyone else noticed? I cannot believe they would mess with such a popular scent, it's infuriating. Bleh.
nisrein..check out on ebay..:)
Hi . i would like to buy the set but im not in US. so how can i get the set????
AB-SO-LUTE-LY LOOVE THIS FRAGANCE.I LIVE IN THE ISLAND OF BARBADOS AND IT FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE TROPICAL FLAVOUR OF LIVING IN THE ISLAMDS.WARM VANILLA SUGAR MAKES ME FEEL VERY RELAXED, LIKE FOR THOSE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF APPLYING IT, THAT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD IS GOING TO BE OKAY.I'M A VERY MOODY PERSON, SO WHEN I FEEL DOWN OR NOT UP TO IT , THIS FRAGRANCE USUALLY PICKS ME RIGHT BACK UP.DEFINITELY CHEAPER THAN PROZAC, LOL ...
This is a great vanilla scent; plenty of vanilla from start to finish and the rice and sandalwood really make for a yummy toasted vanilla effect. Upon first spray I am assaulted with alcohol, but after it settles down it is very enjoyable and delicious. I recommend it be sprayed at least ten minutes before leaving the house so as not to assault others with the alcohol. Also, lasting power is indeed poor, layering with the lotion helps.
There is something truly orgasmic about this fragrance. It was the first BBW fragrance that I fell in love with. And this was YEARS ago. However, I still love it the same, if not more than when I first started wearing BBW about 10 years ago.
This is the ultimate vanilla for foody and non-foody lovers: Soft, delicate, feminine vanilla, with loads of sugar musk. Every time I wear this fragrance, I feel so pretty and delicate. I just wish it was more intense.
Sillage on this is poor. Lasting power even more poor at about 3 hours MAX. And I wear nothing but the EDTs.
Edited: To my surprise, I wore this today and it lasted a full 8 hours. It would have probably gave me more, but I went jogging and I smelled it on my skin after jogging. It could have been a combination or one of 2 things:
1. I layered with the matching lotion
2. I'm extremely heavy-handed with my perfumes.
Either way it goes, it's making me consider buying more EDTs of this!
I have the EDT, the body spray, lotion and shower gel of WVS...ooohhh how I adore this fragrance...it's very TASTY! lol! yummmmy....I lvoe to wear the lotion after shower and before i go to bed...it's very comforting, relaxing and it actually makes me feel happy wearing this. I love it! I highly recommend this one....two thumbs up!
Nice vanilla + burnt sugar : not thick though, I would even describe it as 'watery'. Maybe that's the reason this is also making me a little sick in some way.
One of the few gourmand scents that I like! Very warm, sexy and comfortable-
This is my favorite BBW fragrance! The best vanilla ever created, and it smells sexy too besides smelling sweet. I don't know who couldn't like Warm Vanilla Sugar-even though they are out there. This is a definate fragrance wardrobe staple.
WARM VANILLA SUGAR was my first Bath & Body Works purchase. It is my favourite fragrance for when the weather is wet and/or cold.
The vanilla doesn't seem the slightest bit sugary to me: it just provides a warmth and comfort to me. And; I do get a sense of the rice notes, funnily enough.
Overall, I'm reminded of sitting in my warm kitchen as a child, with Mum's homemade rice pudding cooking in the oven. Happy memories.
While I am very fond of this I doubt I'll repurchase it as the lasting power is very poor. I need to layer it with the lotion and spray a bit on my clothes and hairbrush if I want it to last beyond an hour.
Maybe I'll get it if it were on offer when I go to the US next
I have this one and I like. I spray it on my daughter before she goes to school. It is a versatile fragrance but it's better for day. I get compliments when I wear it. If you layer it with the lotion it last longer. When I wear it alone I spray liberally on my hair, scarf body and it gets noticed. Two sprays of this won't do.
Normally, I don't care for "food" scents, but I think this is just delectable. They say that men really go for vanilla/ pumpkin pie type smells and I must say that I do get a lot of compliments from men when I wear this.
I think they find this relaxing scent comforting and familiar. I know I do.
This is a great fall/winter scent, even during the day. I also have the mini hand sanitizer in this scent.
One day I had just used the sanitizer when another teacher walked into my room and said, "What is that amazing smell? Something smells so good!"
This is a very accessible fragrance: the vanilla lasts through the whole life, but I especially like the sandalwood and rice flower in this. They give it a little extra kick.
Reminds me of the lovely 2008 autmn days
Interesting delicacy!
WARM VANILLA SUGAR is a light dusting of vanilla-laced sugar with a creamy drydown that bears similarities to vanilla rice pudding. A simple yet pleasing fragrance for those who like to smell edible! (-:
This is a light, pretty scent with fairly good staying power in the edt. Comparing WARM VANILLA SUGAR side by side to BBW's VANILLA NOIR, I discovered that the latter is considerably more complex, with marked notes of cinnamon and tuberose. But both are fine presentations of natural vanilla--especially in this price range.
Sugary smell is very prominent on this one. Dolita is right, you'll feel like a cake wearing this.
smells like vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Like warm cinnamon schnapps over vanilla ice cream.
I love this sugary scent!!
So in love with it...
I wanna buy this one
x
Smells okay, does beat cheap dollar store renditions. Having worked at BBW I smelled my fair share of it, but I have found its good for when it is cold outside because it is a really warm comfort scent.
I lovvveee this scent!
But the perfume is kinda alcholiy when sprayed..so I dip my finger in it and put it around my neck, behind my ear and in the backs of my knees and elbows...u also put it on ur wrists
Normally I shy away from fragrances with "edible" personalities, but I don't feel awkward wearing this one. I find it's a very comforting winter fragrance with a toasty aura, which is probably the basmati rice.
It's great for evening or sometimes in the day, and occasionally I'll put it on before I go to sleep, because it is so relaxing. =)
I originally received other forms of the fragrance as a gift, and I fell in love with the scent. This is one of the few fragrances I would recommend as a present.
Of all the gourmand vanillas, this is one of the finest and priced so reasonably. It's definitely foody, but it's also one of the most copied vanilla scents in recent years and for good reason: It's a warm, sweet bath of comforting vanilla. No challenge, no statement, nothing you have to think about. It's the warm blanket of vanilla and it works in all applications: Scent, soap, lotion, candles.
This is a very popular smell. My sister overused it so much that it's hard to smell more than once a month. But it still has a nice complexity to it for being a BBW Vanilla scent.
Kind of a bland scent, but at the same time, quite cozy and warm.
Wow. The body spray, lotions, etc in this line are pleasant, if not a bit mediocre, but the EDT spray is divine! It reminds me of another, more expensive oriental gourmand, though I can't exactly think of what it is now (Boucheron Trouble? Maybe Casmir?)
I am wearing it right now, in the middle of the midwest summer heat, and I can't get enough of it. Even in hot weather it's not too cloying, It's like a light version of a really sexy oriental meant to be worn on the fall and winter nights.
I remember how popular this fragrance became after it's launch sometime in the last decade; it was everywhere and it seemed so overrated. Now, coming back to it, I actually find it more complex than I had once thought it to be. It's certainly not complex enough to warrant a steep price tag, but the products in the line seem to be a bargain at their current prices (and considering that you can always find them on sale).
No matter how many luxury products and perfumes I own, I can never resist one of B&BW's semi-annual sales and I found myself stocking up on the WVS products, once again, yesterday. I enjoy every product in this scent line, from the shampoo and conditioner to the hand santizer, and everything in between. It layers well and the basmati rice note reminds me of my favorite (now discontinued) B&BW scent, Rice Flower & Shea.
It's warm and relaxing and makes me want to curl up with a cozy blanket, a warm cup of tea, and a romantic movie. I wear this one (or other B&BW sprays, including Midnight Pomegranate and Japanese Cherry Blossom) year-round on days when perfume seems too harsh (those moments do occur from time to time); it's never strong enough to be offensive, but I do find, when layered with lotion, that the body splash lasts as long as some eau de toilettes. I have yet to try the EDT of this scent, but I have and enjoy the limited edition "perfume spray" that was released a couple of years ago in this fragrance.
It's hard to go wrong with B&BW, especially for gifts. This one appeals to most people I know and I've received compliments from strangers (men) while wearing this on more than one occasion.
I forgot to mention, that for some reason, many vanilla lotions and fragrances come off weird on me...and end up smelling like playdoh (to me at least). But not this one. It's very warm, but I can definitely smell the musk. I prefer the lotion over the perfume though. I tend to smell alcohol in many of their body sprays and such....so I use their creams and lotions more.
I like this scent. Some days (and depending on my mood), it can smell a little over-powering....but on the right days, it smells lovely, comforting, and warm. The strange thing (which I guess is good) is that people would always turn around and say "Wow, you smell REALLY good!" I'm sure it wasn't good as in sexy...but more like good as in delicious. lol I guess that that's not such a bad thing, though. =)
I used to love this in high school, but upon revisiting it, it is the most vile vanilla scent I may have ever come across. It's very synthetic, strong, and far too sweet (trust me, I have never said that about a fragrance until now).
Yummy Yummy Yummy Mommy!
even a handsome boy like me can't resist this Yummy Mummy scent anymore, I can't recommend you guys to NOT TO BUY it!
This is so Vanilla!
I Love Vanilla aroma, and girls who can treat a Vanilla deserves better...
Will you be my Vanilla?
I cant wait to get this perfume!
I used to always use the lotion and body wash when I was younger.
I was obsessed with the vanilla smell!!
Hopefully the perfume will smell EXACTLY the same!!
This smells very comforting. I have it in bubble bath, body butter, and body wash, but I want the body spray. It is perfect for cold days and calming nights.
Very toasted vanilla and yummy with a hint of musk which is a great combo. This was my weekend frag- It layers great with the lotion and bodywash. Used up every bit!
this one is very strong but have a unique smell and the vanilla is very very noticable in it i feel like a cake when i wear it
Love this! I will purchase again and again. I am a huge vanilla fan, so I guess that explains it. I also love coconut, and it has a slight coconut smell to it. It's a light scent, but has rich undertones in it. It can be worn any time, but I like it best in the winter when I am in the mood for a comforting scent.
A little boring, I prefer the beauty products (lotion, shower gel, etc) to this. It's kind of light, like the faint smell of sugar cookies baking. It's not as warm of a vanilla as I thought it would be. I do get vanilla, though, with some rice and coconut notes.
