I received this as a gift back in the early 90s. Wore it occasionally, but never really liked it. The open is a sort of a mishmash of citrus and floral notes, most rather synthetic, that never came together for me. The citrus dies off in the drydown and the scent becomes a ho-hum mix of sandalwood and roses. The best feature of this fragrance is the price--it is very cheap. As they say, you get what you pay for.
Life is too short to wear boring scents just to save a few bucks. Better to invest more and reap a better olfactory return.
Bottom line: Avoid.
Like almost everyone else, I got this cheaply. I am pleased I purchased it as it is quite a decent fragrance for the price. From the outset it reminds me of YSL pour Homme, though it is somewhat weaker and less tenacious. It is really quite old fashioned and this belies the bottle itself, which makes it look like it should be a really 'out there' fragrance.
Smell is outdated and not very masculine. Bought on clearance a while ago. Will only wear on odd occasion now. May have been a popular trendy smell in the 90s, but passe now.
Like evrybody else in Quebec, I had it...Bad souvenirs...;)
I bought this about 12 months ago, sprayed it on....Man!!! The first picture I got was my Grandfather, wearing his spotted pullover and pipe in his mouth. I can remember him smelling exactly like Colors de Benetton. I gave it to him a few months after and would you know it, he told me that it's his favourite fragrance.
This is the scent of my high school years in the 80's - back when I tried as hard as I could to be as "different" as possible. My look was inspired by Benetton ads and Robert Smith of The Cure - and my fragrances were few and rudimentary for the time, but advanced, compared to my peers.
This cypress and citrus medley instantly recalls to mind multiple Swatch watches on both arms, layered & asymmetrical garments (and haircuts) with bold prints, hair dye and MTV (back when it actually featured videos).
Sadly, this scent has become quite dated, even though it's still a very good composition - it's just a product of its time. I've kept a bottle of this over the years and, while I don't wear it often, I'll wear it at home while watching "Sixteen Candles" or "Pretty in Pink" and remember what it was like to be a young, rebellious and stylish product of the 80's. It's a memory in a bottle - and I'll always love it.
I received a bottle of this cologne in the early 90's as a gift. I tried very much to enjoy the scent, but had a hard time doing so.
I think my disappointment had two aspects: First, I'd hoped that the scent was going to be something as crazy and irreverent as their ads and general philosophy. Of course that wasn't the case.
Secondly, the smell is just plain ordinary. It says 'aftershave' more than anything else. I remember that my father, who likes traditional and strong, manly scents really enjoyed this cologne, so I think I passed it on to him.
The list of notes would (intellectually) make this sound like a great, rich, well-balanced cologne, but there is an overpowering lavender/pine couplet that just never leaves and never dries down. It's like any essential oil - a bit is beautiful, too much is a headache. The bottom notes never really come to the surface, or they're masked by lavender and are impossible to spot.
This is a good example of how the sum of the parts is actually less than the whole. I would prefer Brut over Colors Benetton de Men
I lucked out, and just bought a 1.7 of the original in the black bottle. There is a huge difference between frags and notes. The vintage has very subtle citrus in the top, but it is mainly a sandalwood and vetiver woody frag with a little amber maybe. I was very very pleasantly surprised. It is not a great fragrance, but for those of you who like sandalwood, I would check this out for the price. I would and will definitely wear this. Creamy and woody and very soothing. Score!
Blind bought this for ten bucks. Do I regret it? Somewhat- it is a mature smelling chypre, and definitely for Winter weather. I bought it during the sweltering heat, so I have yet to experience it in the Fall/Winter. It smells pleasant when it's subtle, like a grandpa or uncle, but it's not for me. It has a strange bottle; not anything like the scent. I might use this as a carpet or upholstry spray if it doesn't work out for me. But for ten dollars I don't really care, try it for yourselves if you can even find a bottle. It really reminds me of Jo Malone's Grapefruit, without the tartness.
The original one was in a black bottle, it was much better, less citrus-y and very long lasting.
Found this perfume at Harrods, Knightsbridge last December during my visit to London. Bought a bottle (again) for my brother after 11 years. Has yet to send to him. Hope he likes it.
Notes / scent: 3
Longevity / sillage: 3.5
Overall / subjective feelings: 3
Description: my wife sniffs cinnamon and ginger although there are not them in description above
Short opinion: Old-fashioned scent, one likes, another does not.
Having been using it for years...its part of my personality now... simply love it :)
the notes in this concoction come out very woody-leathery and spicy, the bottle looks as if intended for the young crowd, but when i smell it on my skin, it can definitely be worn by a middle aged man like my self, and i'm 44. nice indeed.ciao.
Great fragrance! Very refined and sexy at the same time. I am a very feminine woman and I wear it. Yummy.
Love it! One of my first fragrances I used. Woody and aromatic
Me trae muchos recuerdos esta fragancia.
I bought this for my brother in 1990. It smells great on him.
I have had this fragrance in my collection since late 80's. It is a little overpowering for me, but still a nice fragrance to wear in cold weather. It is a strong sandalwood, amber & patchouli scent with some citrus, slight floral mixed with it.
