Blauer Enzian or Blue Gentian is another beautiful flower from Swiss Alps. Bergduft, a perfume house from Switzerland, already has three beautiful wild flowers in its bouquet. The third was launched in 2009.
Blauer Enzian is a refreshing fruity floral fragrance. The top notes open with a fresh mountain wind (juicy fruits and fresh nuances), the heart is green, composed of herbs and bright fresh osmanthus. The base is balsamic and powdery of sandalwood. The nose behind this fragrance is Brigitte Witschi.

Bergduft BLAUER ENZIAN is the epitome of an inoffensive fragrance. It's a sort of spritzer scent for those who feel that the solution to big-time, old-school, super-sillage perfumes is dilution. Fresh and clean and incredibly light, BLAUER ENZIAN has a child-proof safety mechanism built right in. It is impossible to overapply.
To me, this is not a virtue. I am opposed to the "save perfumistas and those around them from themselves" movement. I think that we are all adults, and it makes no sense to "loathe" or "despise" a perfumic creation such as AMARIGE because some people apply too much. You can hate it for independent reasons: that it is too cloying, or it contains notes which do not agree with your aesthetic sense or even skin chemistry. But I do not and never will understand perfume critiques grounded in the assertion that a creation is too strong.
There is, after all, a simple solution to that problem. If two sprays are too much, spray once. If one spray is too much, try a dab. Eventually, if you keep cutting the dose in half, you'll discover the optimum application amount of any perfume--even the most superpotent. If it's intrinsically a scrubber, because it's literally toxic (Agent Purple, Agent Blue, and friends) or profoundly ill-conceived (Sécrétions Magnifiques), then of course even a nanodot will be too much. But to say that a perfume belongs in the top-ten loud perfumes category and then give it one star for being loud is nonsense, pure and simple.
None of which is actually relevant to BLAUER ENZIAN, in fact, but I do feel a bit better having got that long-fermenting little mini-rant out of my system. BLAUER ENZIAN would probably suit fans of the colognes of Jo Malone quite well. And also perhaps those who find Annick Goutal's work too obtrusive. To me, in contrast, BLAUER ENZIAN is way too weak and seems closer to air freshener than to perfume. Désolée.
I get the green notes right from the start that reminded me of fresh cut grass. Less so fruits though there is a bit of tart green apple coming through. Osmanthus is more evident within a few mintues. This is a floral fragrance - I would consider it a floral green fragrance, not a floral fruity fragrance. It is fresh and zesty which makes it a good choice for the hot humid days of summer. This is the second of the Bergduft scents I've tried. I prefer Alpine Rose to this one but only because I am less partial to green fragrances overall. But this one is well done and worth trying. Good sillage.
I just got my samples from Bergduft and I tried them all and the first thing that came to my mind was 'Oh God please don't make me choose!!'
Blauer Enzian is a delightful perfume fresh and clean like the air that circulates through the mountains!
When I smelled my wrist a couple minutes later after spraying I got some lovely fresh fruits along with the water notes (made me think I was near a small spring listening to the sound of the waters). After ten minutes or so I smelled fresh green grass and with the osmanthus on the way made me think I was a yoddler somewhere on the Alpes!
By the end of it when finally I got the sandalwood I became a traditional dancer!!
This is a trully well-balanced perfume.
You can certainly detect all these wonderful notes one by one since that's difficult to do with other perfumes.
(Ahh, sweetie can I have all these three wonderful perfumes along with their sachets as a present for Christmas? please...)
