Of the samples I received this one stands out to me like the prize of the bunch. I contemplated it against my other fragrances as it offers several impressions through the course of it's evolution. It seems to me most similar to an ideal trade off between "Michael for Men" and "mat; very male".
It has this semi-soft sparkle of bergamot, mate, meliloti and licorice(like very male) prickling with bits of holly, clove and cardamom(frothing spicy boozy like Michael). The tobacco, ambroxan and elemi seem to tone and resonate into the path of the dry down.
It gives a presentation of elegant spices and interesting nuance. Longevity isn't bad either.
First on, I got citrus and spiced wood. Then as it dried, it developed a velvety mate tea note that added smooth depth. Sweet grass and green notes crept in as it went and freshened it up. I really love this one. It morphs, but is never nasty, so the journey is enjoyable at every stage, and it lasts very well.
A very pleasant and well done perfume which last very long.Three sprays in the morning and after 10 hours is still present. Worth the price imo.
I received Contre Pouvoir, or challenge to authority this morning. What a wonderfully made EDP this is. A complex and invigorating scent. It starts with a burst of cardamom and licorice wood. Very subtle citrus notes present themselves and then fade quickly. The tobacco is almost undetectable, but it is there. The ambroxan and meliloti take over rather quickly after the EDP is applied, but I like it, and it sets well on my skin. Later, it becomes slightly sweet, with a subtle, almost eucalyptus/lavender scent. This EDP may not be for everyone, but it is a unique, classy, and masculine scent that last for many hours. It is what I expected of a finely crafted French EDP. Contre Pouvoir is well suited for social gatherings and a night out on the town.
Well done Brecourt!
