Incense Oud Fragrance Reviews

This one is much better than Rose Oud yet not paramount like Pure Oud. The composition of incense and oud seems to be more original than rose and oud which hides the oud tone. Yet I get rose prettily in this one too that makes a typical oud scent while seems they try to hide it with incense!
Although Arabian themes are monotone and plain on some known elements, this line and especially this one and Rose Oud are unnecessary launches. If I wanna buy some Arabian stuff, I would prefer to get on with Tom Ford private collection which are more masculine.

When I first smelled this, I was incredibly drawn to it-so exotic, spicy, like a fresh, delicious tea-bag!
I was initially drawn to the cardamon and pink pepper, I also feel that I hinted nutmeg..and oaky moss.
The first hour the scent developed into a richer, more incense-like and spicy fragrance.
By the second hour, the patchouli came on very strong, as well as the sandalwood and musk.
By the third hour, all I could smell was pungeunt musk, and not in a good way. I tried to wash it off my skin-as it was becoming overpowering, and I couldn't get it off until the third day of bathing.

I was very surprised at the outcome of this, as, I was so drawn to it in the beginning, I kept smelling it, and finally sprayed some on myself, but ended up being so horrible on me I couldn't get away from it!

Initially I was drawn to this because I adore incense based fragrances. I've been dying to try the By Kilian line so Incense Oud seemed perfect. I ordered a sample vial and I've been wearing it for a couple days now and the conclusion I've come to is that while it is a striking fragrance it's just not for me. The scent is definitely unisex in my opinion and when it works on a woman, I imagine it's incredible! It's an extravagant, sensual and woody fragrance. On me there's a note that I can't decipher (I'm thinking musk or the methyl pamplemousse) that does not agree with my chemistry. It turns sour on me. Usually I don't have a problem with musk but it might be the result of it's combination with another note(s) in this blend. Just didn't work for me.

Immediately after the first whiff, I was transported to the Shrines, and the ancient Mosques that I visited when I traveled to the old city of Fes in Morocco.

I would love to wear it but I'm afraid to smell like a Priest or an Imam.besides to me, it smells like something ancient and history.
Also, if anyone has CK obsession for women and owns this one, compare them side by side, you will notice they oddly share a lot of similarities, especially the sweetness.

if I came across one in the future, for a reasonable price, I might buy it.

it's in a mid way between I like it and I love it

I liked your review coutureguru! I'm wearing my sample today too and agree with your comments. I wonder if you've ever sniffed 'Dirty English'? I find its opening to reflect my own church incense memories most accurately!

I've had a luckyscent sample of this banging around in my sample box for some time now. I haven't had much of a chance to truly try it, but with a bit of free time available today I found it and whacked the entire sample bottle to my left arm. It's beautiful. It's pure Frankincense on me ... very little else and quite linear. I'm a bit of an Oud nut and I don't get very much of it here.
I had a very strict Catholic upbringing (yep, parochial school et al ... it's taken years of therapy to get over LET'S NOT GO THERE!!!) and without much say in the matter became an altar boy at around the age of 10. It was my duty to carry the censer (the incense burner) and I would dutifully swing it about (like a fabulous gold Judith Leiber handbag!!) until I was fairly obscured by nimbus like clouds of fragrant smoke :o). Incense Oud smells EXACTLY like the little gold box of resinous crystals that housed the incense we used!
Is Kilian Hennesey's Incense Oud worth it's (IMO) exhorbitant price? Not really ... as lovely as it is. I think the sublimely gorgeous Mr. Hennesey would do well to market his fragrances in less costly packaging. I read somewhere that a 50ml bottle at GBP 140 is refillable at GBP 60. That's QUITE a difference for a pretty bottle!
Nevertheless ... one cannot take away the fact that this is a REALLY beautiful fragrance ... I'd have it if I could justify the price!

@Bigsly: I took your advice and ordered a bottle of Cabaret, which is very nice! I have some on the other arm and on my skin they are very different. I'd say they were pretty far apart ... but thanks for introducing me to a lovely Gres ... much appreciated!

"incense, mystic perfume, is combined with oud. Giving birth to fragrance that is mysterious and warm, yet stunningly modern."

Incense Oud opens up with a characteristic dominant incense note followed by a slight spicy combo. Nothing harsh at all instead this is quite relaxing and comforting since the incense note is nothing that screams in your face like in Avignon (which is a masterpiece but difficult to wear).

Incredibly scent made By Kilian. This along with Beyond Love would be my 2 pick ups from the By Kilian house.

I don't know what people are talking about. This is long lasting from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. I could smell it all day. It was incense and spice and oud. Absolutely powerful, deep, lovely. It is a real fume. Brava!

I layered rose oud with pure oud for a deeper oud scent and loved that, too.

A woody/peppery rose with an oud accent. There is absolutely nothing in this formulation that I enjoy. It's not unpleasant, like some oud fragrances (in how harsh they can be), but this is more like something I'd rather just sample on a strip then throw it away a minute later. For rose, I really enjoy fragrances like Rose d'Homme or Royal Secret for Men, and I generally avoid oud fragrances, though it's acceptable here. Perhaps this is a good fragrance if you want to "make an impression" but I can't think of the social occasion this would be appropriate for, especially if you are a man. Is this what billionaires smell like these days? Never having been in a room with one, I couldn't say. My guess is that the hardcore oud or woody/rose crowd would think this a bit too shy, but that's based on very limited experience. Cabaret (the women's version) would be a reasonable substitute for this one, in order to conserve my money, if I wanted something like this (and as I said, I don't need the oud note).

Much-promising title. As a rule from such houses as Kilian you expect much it is sad. Aroma thin but if speaks about the central part oud quickly enough disappears and remains the incense which has been knocked down by other base. Aroma good, but no more.

After a rose scented bath, rose scented body lotion and strawberry scented massage bar I then put this scent on! I think I overdosed on the rose tbh! But the smokey incense and oud counteracted the sweetness of everything else giving a marvellous balance to my scent today! I really need to be neutral when I wear this next time!

I do like what I am getting so far and had quite a few compliments and "Ohhhh, what 'are' you wearing" followed by loud sniffs and coo's of joy! I'm not sure whether that is down to the bath fug I had on or the perfume! But I don't really care as I like this - I really do!

It lasts quite a while on me - I would prefer it slightly stronger - but that is just nit picking! I think this could also be good for layering; although I am loathe at layering such expensive scents!

Warm and rich for cosy nights as well as expensive restaurants. Recommended highly!

In my opinion Incense Oud sounds/smells similiar to Costume Naional Homme, but stronger and harsher. Though in base both fragrances appear to be suprisingly calm and pleasant. Anyway, when i first sprayed IO on my wrist in was like "gee, what a hell...It's a bomb".
Frankly speaking can't say i adore it at the moment but i like it more and more with every other sniff i take. It has something special, a perk - the thing many modern fragrances are deprived of nowadays.
I wouldn't dare to call it "clash of the titans" but it's really something animalistic, orientally brutal on the one hand, on the other (closer to the mid-end of the composition, or after first hour of incredible fighting between sympathy and rejection) we'd find this "beast" incensy sweet, tamed and leaned his head to the nose and heart of the wearer. Marvelous! So soft, sophisticated, smooth, erotically enchanting meanwhile sober, ready to anticipate, vanquish and hip. Oriental legend told by the European (patrician European).

Opulent and sexy. The oud is not overwhelming and adds interest to the gentle incense. This is a masterful blend and very romantic but oh! the price tag. Still, it is different enough from my other ouds and incenses for me to put it on my wish list, along with a rich Sugar Daddy! Absolutely divine.

10 months later: I re-tried this and think that Montale do the ouds better. For the price, I don't think this is special enough. No longer on my wish list!

I was keen to try this offering from By Killian as I am currently exploring both oud and incense notes.
Incense Oud opens with a strong oud/rose note (no surprise there) and my initial thought was that it was very much like a Montale yet far more expensive. Soon after, the incense arrived and I was surprised that it was a sweet incense, very reminiscent of Amouage Memoir Woman. Maybe it's the name or the note but I was expecting something far darker.
Overall, I like this offering very much indeed yet find it too similar to Memoir Woman but with less sweetness and complexity. This is just personal choice though.
This is a masterpiece and I envy anyone who owns a FB

Incense and oud together! Sounded fantastic but then I tried it...A huge rose note and some incense on a sweet and opulent oud base. Affected mannerism at ridicolous prices or, if you prefer, an insolent and unnecessary opulence ostentation.

NOTES: Guatemala cardamom, pink pepper, Turkish rose, Egyptian geranium, methyl pamplemousse, Virginia cedarwood, Indonesian patchouli, Indian papyrus, Somalia incense (oil and absolute), sandalwood, Macedonian oakmoss, Spanish cistus labdanum, musks.

This beautiful juice is very expensive (about 395.00 for 50ML)I have not decided if I want to invest in a large bottle. One thing I know for sure is that this is a MASTERPIECE.
I order samples of Kilian Oud Incense on Lucky Scent and from a French seller on Ebay.

Kilian Henessey, steeped as he is the charm and history of a gallic congnac producting dynasty—turned his olfactory attention to the art of the perfumier. A formidable range, “L’oeuvre noire” (Black Masterpiece)” has recently been released into the English market, principally carried by Harvey Nicholls Knightsbridge and Manchester. As if the delicacies contained therein were not enough to delight perfumistas worldwide, a new Oud perfume is waiting patiently in the wings. I say patiently, when indeed I mean smouldering confidently with half closed eyes, with the semi disinterested self assurance that only the proudest of pedigrees can confer.

I was lucky enough to be handed a sample of Incense Oud by the splendidly knowledgeable Kilian staff in Manchester Harvey Nicholls, after the naughty minx smiled like a pedigree Persian cat and wafted the freshly sprayed spill some six inches from my eagerly twitching nose.

I inhaled cautiously, then deeply, as my pupils dilated with the undiluted pleasure of it all.

Created by Sidonie Lancesseur, Incense Oud is immediately evocative of my favourite environment, the airlock between heaven and earth, where angels lounge before floating gently to earth to clock up a few brownie points with the guv’nor via a few good deeds.

What this gourmet of a fragrance does not contain is the secret to it’s success. No smoke, no powder, this is an entirely non combutive formula that is at once explosive and gentle as the smallest white feather spinning in a minimal breezelet.

It is oriental, without the jaw shattering punch of an oriental. It is floral, without the oriental headache bouquet, it is most definitely resinous, but without the heavy syrup which one normally associates with resinous fragrances. Frankincense tears, crystalline and sparkling, glitter with metallic colegate smiles at the top of this perfume, spiciness, the deep alcoholic haze of a fine red wine, is provided without weight in the form of pink pepper and labdanum. This shimmering organza is given a beautiful velvety softness when Agarwood, cedarwood, sandalwood, Papyrus and a hint of patchouli gather it all up into folds of semi transparent lustre.

But wait... There’s more! The floor of this celestial ante room has been strewn with petals of Turkish rose, and a touch of moss and geranium, which lends it own peculiar “sucked spoon” tang to the recipe. In the corner of the room, sits a small table, on which you will find, two halves of grapefruit an open hymn book, and a beautiful masquerade mask.

This masterpiece might evoke high altars, church pulpits and evensong, but it does so wearing diamonds and jet, a softly rustling ballgown and absolutely NO underwear. And it doesn't flinch as it looks you straight in the eye with a long slow wink, before turning and mysteriously disappearing into a Baccanalian orgy.

The whole cinematic kaleidoscope simmers slowly before dipping and drying down to the soft enfolding powder dust of gentle angels wings.

Dont miss the chance to try it.

Incense Oud - clash of the titans ;]
I've never been an oud lover, but still I couldn't wait patiently for this perfume. And yes, finally I can say: an oud for me. Hot, burning incense mixed with very spicy, dry and slightly animal oud. It reminds me a little bit of Clive Christian's X [for men] and Histoire d`Eau, with spicy heart of cardamom and pepper. Brillant. Lovely. Perfect balance of the two main notes. Just what I expected it to be.
