How utterly boring.
There’s nothing dangerous about it, and nor do I ever intend to develop a liaison of any kind with this fume.
I can’t believe you would practically have to remortgage your home in order to acquire a bottle, when frankly it’s on par with any generic supermarket body spray scent-wise.
Talk about hype!
I find this VERY sweet, even a tad cloying. I get lots of peaches and blackcurrant, and just a hint of oakmoss underneath it all. Smells rather like a Bellini on me!
Borders on syrupy but has the good manners never to really cross that line. Even so, this is definitely not for me.
This is a departure from what I tend to like which are spicy, woody, incense and chypre. I realize this is classified as a chypre but I don't really get any oak moss, or do I get any discernible cinnamon from this. What I do get is just lovely. It starts off almost minty but quickly turns plummy. The mint hangs around and there is a fresh, juicy, moist quality to the fruit. Then it softens and gets a bit (just a tiny bit) warmer, perhaps this is the coconut. Rose makes her presence known and slowly builds and from there the perfume is very well blended and I have difficulty picking out any individual notes. The dry down is musky and here is why I voted for love with some reluctance, I wish it had a bit more in the dry down. More "oak moss" or whatever is used nowadays to convey oakmoss, or some woods.
Luca Turin called this "rose jam" and I agree with his assessment. This is one of those cases though where rose jam and jam rose do not mean the same thing, much like yellow green and green yellow in a box of crayons. This is a rosy tinted jam, predominantly fruit not a jammy rose.
All in all a lovely, bright, vibrant perfume which may have convinced me that fruity florals could have a place in my heart. If only I could think of an occasion that I would want to wear this for. A picnic or a glass of wine in my backyard with a good friend? It strikes me as a daytime/early evening scent but a bit fussy for something too casual and not dark enough to wear once the sun goes down.
Yaheli!
I really admired your commentary!
I totally agree ;>
I tried Liaisons Dangereuses after trying 20+ other perfumes. I was eventually looking for an Oriental, a totally different thing. But when I tried LD on, it literally STOOD OUT. After 20 perfumes they all felt the same, but LD was completely different. I didn't want to like it, but couldn't help it. It was unique, I was overwhelmed.
I couldn't understand how it managed to be both sexy and romantic. Nowadays, it never happens.. LD is exotic (I feel the fruits, coconut included), exciting, passionate, sexy, mysterious, romantic and a little shy at the same time. What a magic... It smells like a temptation.
I imagine an incredibly beautiful woman.. Dark wet long hair, golden skin kissed by the sun, wearing a casual sundress.. She's overwhelmingly sexy but doesn't even realize it.. And despite this, she is classy. Elegant, in a way. Sunny exotic fruits and flowers mixed with the innocence of the plum and peach, followed by the mysterious depths of the musk and the sandalwood. Who is she? Where does she come from? Is she hiding something? Does she want me?
Her lips say no while her eyes say yes.
This, exactly this, is Liaisons Dangereuses.
Enjoy this. Everybody is asking me what I am wearing. But I'm keeping the secret.
I like this one, it leans on the feminine side but i'll wear it when I feel like I can pull it off.
While the scent stays linear for the most part, after the first few hours the "feminine" aspect of it seems to tone down a bit and it just smells more refreshing to me so I become more comfortable wearing it around other people.
I found this works pretty well for me during the summer too, but probably not the best thing to pull out during the heat of the day.
To me this smells like there is a bowl of refreshing sticky-dried but yet fresh wet plums (jam-like), cut peaches, and a hint of that Kilian vibe sitting near by me.
This one will last and last it puts the energizer bunny to shame. This will last 24 hours+ on my skin while still getting some projection.
One day without wearing this scent I was at the vet and I unexpectedly started smelling Liaisons Dangereuses out of no where while I was speaking to the docter and I thought it was coming from her, probably something similar to Liaisons Dangereuses because I thought what are the chances you know? But then I noticed the scent was coming from my arm even though I haven't sprayed this on in over a week. Then I realized what happned was that it transfered on to my arm from a coat that I just had taken off, the same coat I also wore 1-2 weeks prior when I last tested Liaisons Dangereuses on that same area of my arm. This scent didn't just kinda of transfer back to my arm, but it transfered back pretty damn good. It was faintly projecting around me as if I just had put a little bit on earlier that day.
I guess what I like about this fragrance is the quality and longivity that comes with it (obviously, what you should expect for a high price tag, but unfortunately not always the case in the fragrance world..). I have some other fragrances with good longeivity, but they get tiring, but this one even after 24 hours doesn't get boring to me since it always feels refreshing and smells natural.
But because this really does lean toward the feminine side, I'll have to say this has become my favorite daring scent.
I love it! How much would I love a full bottle of this? Heavenly. A lush mix of peaches and plums dipped in champagne. Sexy without being in your face. Seems like a fragrance you could wear at any time of year, but it would really shine with a sundress and strappy sandals.
"The delicate and sweet sensuality of the plum mixed with the roses from damas."
With that being said, Liaisons Dangereuses opens up with a very sweet plum not combined with a slight creaminess given by coconut which appears only for a few minutes and in a not so evident form like in Beyond Love.
Trough time a lot of notes appears at the same time, making me think that this pyramid listed here isn't complete.
Anyway, a good fragrance for those who enjoy sweet fragrances with cinammon that shows at the end, but not the right bang for your buck in my opinion.
Why in the world does Kilian LIAISONS DANGEREUSES smell initially like a crisp floral green on my skin? Honestly, I am baffled. These are apparently the notes:
coconut flesh, prune absolute, plum, black currant bud absolute, crystallised peach, cinnamon bark oil, ambrette seed absolute, Damascus rose, Bourbon geranium, Australian sandalwood oil, oakmoss extract, Javanese vetiver oil, clear woods and white musks.
Somehow the above conspire in the opening to alchemically produce the olfactory illusion of hyacinth! Eventually a plummy quality comes through, but it is definitely not sweet--more like stewed compote with no sugar added. To my nose, the dominant floral is geranium (not rose) from start to finish, but this perfume always seems rather green to me, albeit much less so in the drydown, when it begins to smell more and more like a plum-rich analogue to YVRESSE.
All in all, this is an interesting composition, which I may try again in the future, under different conditions of weather, mood, and planetary motion.
...
Update: according to Aedes, coconut does not number among the notes, and I do not smell coconut, so perhaps the recipe has changed?
With this name I kind of expected a femme fatal perfume, but it wasn't. I had to change my viewpoint on this perfume (not dangerous) It is a lovely sweeter perfume, Not innocent smelling exactly but sweet enough not to be dangerous, it's still sexy, but not... well, if you smell it you may understand what I am trying to say. It is a pretty perfume and I do like it. I just would have called it something else ;) It opens up with plum, and then mixes with flowers and cinnamon. It winds down to a nice musk and sandalwood. I really lean more towards this being a feminin smelling perfume but try it and see, it may smell different mixing with a mans skin. It lasts a good 8 hours. I almost would have said it is more for summer, but the cinnamon makes it versitile for fall and winter as well. So for spring/summer I would use it as an evening fragrance, and for fall/winter I would use it as a day fragrance.
So, i"ll let you in on a little secret, the real 'danger' behind Liaisons: Killian's impish grin. Really now, how could I fall for that, I'm a grown woman. But there he was, signing sales of his perfumes, and I'm a sucker for dark, handsome Irishmen with a French accent.
But I like this. I often check myself when I say that, because I paid to have my scent profile done and cinnamon was big flaming no. I already knew this from other cinnamon inclusive disasters, but Liaisons does not rub me the wrong way. ON the contrary, it tickles my fancy.
HIgh quality plum wood is a note I gravitate towards; having bought it in my second ever perfume purchase, Isvaraya. What I get in Liaisons is a strong sandalwood vibe, which again is my favorite base note. Musk and cinnamon are kept in the back ground, and it is the tangy plum and blackberry that I get. It doesn't change much me, wearing like a chypre throughout, and yum yum for that.
This is my favorite scent of this line.
Subtle. Rather for women. It reminds me Pure Poison :)
Liaisons Dangereuses is probably my second favorite from L'oeuvre noire. It's quite yummy but not 100 percent eatable.
The plum is ripe and very sweet in the beginning, and the base is very musky. Strangely enough there is almost a kind of aquatic vibe going on as well. I love sweet fragrances like this with a slight trace of bitterness in the background, because that makes them smell "real". I love it, but not immediately when you spray it; it is better 15min later. At this point you can still smell the plum, but the overall feeling is a little less sweet, and the pelargonium finally comes though. Together- an original duet, over a musky base.
Liaisons Dangereuses is probably more suitable for women in my opinion. I'd say that it's a posh fragrance with a casual 'tude.
Rose jam, turkish delight... very strong reminiscences of the middle east without the "spice bazaar" element that usually goes with that association. Very romantic, warm fragrance that makes others want to move in closer. Agree it would be good on a date! I love this on me (a woman) but I would be intrigued by a man sufficiently confident to wear it.
Yes it is sweet, but i do belive that its a male one, but you should be sure about your masculinity, and then it makes an incredible contrast... Is something like wearing a pice of art.
Per the Kilian website, this fragrance's official notes are:
Fruity Notes:
Coconut Flesh Accord, Prune Absolute, Plum Accord, Blackcurrant buds Absolute, Crystalized Peach Accord, Cinnamon bark oil, Ambrette seeds Absolute.
Floral Notes:
Rose Damascus Accord, Geranium Bourbon Oil.
Woody Notes:
Australian Sandalwood Oil, Oakmoss Extract, Javanese Vetiver, Clear Woods Accord.
Amber Notes:
Vanilla Extract, White Musks.
This is the "prettiest" fragrance I've ever had the pleasure of owning that is officially classified by its maker as Unisex. I am also surprised that it's Unisex, but I'm glad it is... It gives me (a guy) an excuse to wear it considering it smells so good.
The coconut note lasts no longer than a minute after spraying on my skin, and I'm sure I smell the prune/plum sweetness somewhere in the mix, but it's the Peach that dominates and lasts on me... Peaches bathed in Rose water. I don't get any Vanilla at all.
For some reason, this fragrance reminds me a lot of Sake by Fresh. It must be the peachy floraly sandalwoody muskiness that both fragrances possess. Sake Noir perhaps?
I hope that with more wear I'll feel more comfortable and confident wearing it considering how feminine it is, for a Unisex scent.
Well, don't believe that to many men will (or should) be wearing this one out(I did once). This really is a great light to medium femme scent. It is smooth and discreet. It's not an in your face (more like your nose)frag.
Plum to musk is the long and short of it here. The plum gives it the right amount of sweetness without venturing into the land of cotton candy and the musk wraps it all up in sexyness. Nicely balanced. Calice has assembled the right notes which make this a winner (read: expensive).
Sillage is really good and it lasts!
I agree, this is best for Fall or Winter. A great date frag!
Mashed fruit, rose petals and a heap of sugar all boiled together to make a rich jammy smell. It is all about food, and I cannot even get a nuance of chypre here. Pure fruity gourmand.
A lovely feminine fragrance filled with luscious plum and sweet notes.
Fruity and lovely. Feminine. Not cloying or syrupy, just uplifting and juicy. Absolutely wearable at all times, every season.
A lovely feminine fragrance filled with luscious plum and sweet notes. However, this is very reminiscent of Givenchy's Eaudemoiselle which I think I prefer.
mm... this is wonderful! on me, it opens with sexy blackcurrant, soft plum and cozy sandalwood. It smells delicious, but grown up.
LD has this "expensive" vibe to it; good projection an lasting power. One of the best chypre fruity, imho.
This is one of my favorite fall and winter fragrance. It last all day and night and I get alot of compliments on the scent when I pass by someone. I have to agree with the other reveiewer; I can not imagine a man wearing this scent....it is a woman scent
Plum, plum, plum :)
At first infinished sweet plum till the end...
Sensual plum, sweet plum and dark plum.
Beautiful
I just purchased the limited holiday silver edition of Liaisons Dangereuses by Kilian and I could not be more thrilled. I tested this along with all of her fragrances with an old set and almost liked it enough to get a full bottle, but then got Cruel Intentions instead (I adore violet scents, and was the first long lasting one I had ever tried). I have found every Kilian fragrance to have exceptional lasting power and complexity.
It was an pricey lesson, but I have realized I prefer to buy these in the travel size (4x .25 oz) instead of the hugely expensive full bottles with the elaborate box packaging, and I find the packaging is equally if not more beautiful for the travel sized bottle, which is refillable for $70, and obviously more convenient. My male cousin fell in love with this and Back to Black (I have in the black to-go sized as well) so I gave him a full refill of each- the travel size makes it easy for multiple people to enjoy the fragrance and I can imagine finding someone to split a travel refill set would be easier than the average fragrance splitting. Killian perfumes are very concentrated and I doubt I will go through my travel sized bottle quickly, if ever (even lacking the 1/4 oz I gave to my cousin). These are such interesting and almost odd scents in a really lovely way, but I can't wear them all the time because they require a special mood for me, but when I am in that state of mind, nothing hits the spot exactly the Kilian's offerings do.
The scent its self, a pulpy and complex fruity scent, is ever changing without losing any of the lusciousness, which is rich and (once again) pulpy and juicy. The drydown is just plain pretty and sweet. My favorite niche fruity scent by far! It smells totally different on male to female, very feminine on my skin but on my cousin I can completely see how it is unisex. It is extremely fruity- I can't express that aspect of the scent enough. It took me a lot of tries to like Liaisons Dangereuses, but once again, Killian won my heart. Everyone seems to love it on me almost as much as I do, its a lovely fragrance to be around for the ones you spend your time with. I think this might be my favorite of the kilians... but its a very tough call, they are are so special.
Check out the silver limited edition magnetized travel spray while its still around for the 2010 holidays, it is only made for a couple fragrances, although the refills for any of the refills would fit and work in the silver package as well. I love looking at my Killians, they are almost as amazing to look at as they are to smell, and now I have every type of her bottles! I am a true addict to luxury and Kilian is right up my alley in that department, every fragrance by her is complex and lasts very well, although I think the only 3 that are my taste I already own, although I am very intrigued by A Taste of Heaven as well. I am honored to have these, and it makes me feel great to share something so wonderful smelling with my cousin. I am still shocked at how well every kilian smells great on both genders-the masculinity really pops out on a man and vice versa... They say their perfumes are unisex- they just seemed too sweet on my skin to work on a man, but it turned into something much more masculine on my cousin while still retaining its fruitiness. To me, the unisex nature, complexity and longevity of this fragrance was a shock, and the sign of a fantastic (dare I say masterpiece?) fragrance from a wonderful niche line. Thanks to Kilian, Luckyscent and Cosbar in Montecito, I can sample and buy them or refills to my hearts desire!
And just think, if you can get another person in on it, you can have most any kilian fragrance .5oz for $45 or an ounce for $70.... The price is totally justified, I am tired of hearing people complain about it, just buy the travel size or refills, sheesh! This isn't even unreasonable compared to nice department store prices. Why have something generic if you can have something interesting and way more beautiful for the same or a similar price? At least Kilian gives options of no packaging for their small refills and a small size, many lines only come out with one large size that isn't affordable for most people. Many worse fragrances cost much more. Kilian perfumes and bottles are art pieces I proudly own and wear and they are some of the prettiest bottles I have ever encountered- the fact that they are magnetic and don't leak in your stuff is the icing on the cake, and the juice inside is the cherry on top! I highly suggest sampling these, as with most high end fragrances, they are completely different from person to person.
EDIT: 2 days later I have gone half a vial (.25 oz) so I have aprox 1/2 oz left because it comes with an ounce and I gave my cousin 1 of the 4 .25oz vials and have almost used an entire one myself because I am a little obsessed. Not hard to pick a favorite Kilain anymore, its totally undoubtably Liaisons Dangereuses. I hope my obsession passes, but maybe I will need that $70 refill I thought I would never need after all... It is very long lasting, but I had to try it on my sheets one time and have been applying it many times a day for that irresistible initial juicy blast, although the drydown is still sweet and pretty noticable for over 12+ hours- I suspect I will get over the impulse to spray this all the time because of its substantial lasting power. I love that I can buy one of my favorite niche perfumes for $70 an oz and keep my beautiful silver travel bottle, it makes me feel like an investment when I buy a travel size. It also means if you dont have the $320 to burn for a 1.7 0unce bottle or the 150 budget for the travel size, you could maybe still go for $70 refill and buy a spray decant on amazon or use it straight from the vial.
Why have a ton of cheap perfumes when you can have one true beauty? Something original and complex- in the case of this almost fruity gourmand with a clean and pretty edge.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite scents and layers well with my other favorite scents. This is the most wearable Kilian offering for me. I am just enjoying it more and more as I wear it all the time now and it has now climbed up to my top 10 favorite scents (out of over 150 fragrances, many niche and expensive). I will cry if Kilian discontinues this, but I think it's one of the more popular of the lines scents, for good reason- its INCREDIBLE! Give it a chance, I hated it at first but now I am totally in love with the bottle and even more so, the long lasting and intricate fragrance.
I did some research and found on their website that they have a list of the ingredients and amounts used for each fragrance- it wont let me link you to their site, but if you go to bykillian.com and you can see a list of their fragrances and select one. After you select it will have an option on the right "To discover the perfumers formula". Click this and see the list of what they used for the fragrance you clicked.
I think it shows a lot of deserved confidence from the brand to list all of that information, but they know they use superior ingredients and blending and cannot be copied. I have never seen a fragrance line give away all of the amounts and ingredients of every fragrance they make, and I really respect and appreciate that! I feel like I know exactly what I am smelling.
update :(
lost the spray top and if you make this very easy mistake you lose your packaging and spray, and there is no way to just replace that part. I will continue my search but I REALLY wish they sold the refills with a spray or a sprayer by its self because probably a $5 part lost cost me 150. I am bummed, but I ended up buying a FB of LD. I got love and a taste of love in travel form so I will be able to use my LD in the silver to go package when ever I want. Every fragrance in my top 5 is something I always keep in stock... this is in my top 5 of about of about 200 perfumes. Love is another favorite, and both Love and Beyond Love are top 10.
UPDATE: I checked amazon for a refill of love which no us site sell, I found one with the little sprayer 1.7 oz so I am pretty sure I fixed the no sprayer problem for my LD. I highly suggest amazon if you are looking for something hard to find, I have not seen the sprayer or this Love By Kilian Ressource / Refill anywhere but.
smells musky. You could smell the other notes at first, but then it's purely soft musk from there.
Out of three Kilian scents I have tested this one is the best by far but the problem is that it doesn't live up to its price. The one thing that bothers me the most is its weak sillage.
This is weirdly lovely. Opening with cold plum and peach dipped in ice cold champagne. This is...ehm...kinda naughty scent. I think it's very sexy in a weird way. Asilverfire said it right - it does smell like two lazy lovers after passionate love-making, just joking around in their sheets, there is some BO feel to it and the fruits and champagne.
There is a slight honey feel to it, so it's very sweet, too sweet for men, in my opinion. I can feel rose and tiny (really tiny) bits of cinnamon. What disturbs me? It's too soapy. And "soapy" is just not my thing, I always think - better buy soap to feel clean, not spend $$ on perfume. But, if you do like soapy scents - give it a try. It's with very high quality, rich, sexy, feminine and unique.
According to Kilian, the notes in this perfume are as follows: coconut flesh, prune absolute, plum, black currant bud absolute, crystallised peach, cinnamon bark oil, ambrette seed absolute, Damascus rose, Bourbon geranium, Australian sandalwood oil, oakmoss extract, Javanese vetiver oil, clear woods and white musks.
It is obvious, at first sniff, that this is a very high quality scent that spared no expense in its construction and is beautifully blended...Kilian says this is one of the two unisex scents in this line, but slightly on the feminine side of the spectrum.
I tend to agree (at first anyway) as this begins very darkly fruity, sweet and creamy. Prune, plum and currants make it seductively sexy, the coconut makes it creamy and the peach adds a delicate juicy freshness-forbidden fruit is what comes to my mind...you know, the one that tastes the sweetest, but is not necessarily the best for you...very tempting. As this develops (and it lasts a VERY long time) the cinnamon warms it and makes it more sexy and exciting, and the gorgeous rose makes it sensual and so very intruiging. The geranium adds to the floral air but keeps it spicy and the ambrette seeds give it an almost musty air (like something precious kept hidden and treasured in a secret place), that is at once elegant and mysterious. Eventually, if only all liasons lasted this long and were this gorgeous, this dries to an elegant musky and earthy woody dryness-just superb!!
Sillage: very good
Longevity: excellent
Overall: 4.5/5
The description on LuckyScent is just delicious-lovers naked in bed feeding each other juicy fruits entwined in loves embrace and then languishing in the afterglow and sexy muskiness of each other afterwards...this is not necessarily a "dangerous" scent as others have mentioned, but it does invite such a tryst for sure. It's seductive, sexy, sultry and just mysterious enough to make you want more-regardless of the consequences. This is dark warm passion, and the air of secrecy...that adds to the intensity and the pleasure! ;-)
I'm a guy, albeit one who prefers other guys, but I think this is just awesome...and the whole locked box and key packaging adds to the mystery and luxury. Some may find this too fruity; but the spices and the basenotes do eventually, take the overly feminine feel from this, and make it more unisex. Not that this smells gender neutral-but this is where male meets femininity becomes lost in it and comes out of it more in touch with its sensual side, while remaining masculine and grounded...
This is a yummy fruity scent, the sweetness is jammy, rather than cloying, and it lasts forever, I can still smell it on my bedsheets two days later. Dont know if its fantastic enough for a FB but I wouldnt mind a decant.
this is not so bad at all! i never had chypre fruity perfumes but laisons dangereuses is a real summer frag! long lasting too! it got me just 1 compliment (from someone i really don't like how odd is that) considering to get me a bottle, next to midnight rain this could be one of my favorites too
totally beats the ordinairy champs de elysees!IMO this is better with sillage as well!
its kind of a light scent with heavy sillage or something
I am glad I gave this fragrance a second chance. I had plans to go out with friends to a bar and dance club but I was not in the mood for over crowded places and loud music.
I wanted a quiet evening to either read a book or watch a movie. I decided to cozy up with a soothing fragrance and just listen to jazz.
Once I spray this on, peaches with hints of coconut were the first notes to sooth me into the evening. Plum notes began to open up shortly afterwards, what a wonderful combination.
As this began to develop, rose and geranium accords begin to accompany Ella Fitzgerald in the background.
Hours later as I have turned off the music and decide to watch a little television before heading to bed, the white musk joined in all the former notes.
This evening, I met a new friend, Liaisons Dangereuses. One I can not wait to re-visit.
Second chances can lead to a wonderful experience.
a small sample, but enough to make me feel the sweet-but not oversweet- fruits and notes of the perfume,, not sure though if i would pay the price for it..I like it, maybe sometime later i could buy it, ...
never heard about this perfume, but from the review and the bottle design, seems it is worth to try. And from a collector point of view...a not so commercial perfume is even more tempting to try. It drives my curiosity for sure.
Chypre Fruity? OK, I'll go with that if we get "Oriental and Tropical" in there somewhere. The first 5 minutes are the highlight of this scent-not that I don't like the rest, but it pales in comparison. The top is warm and yummy: discreet citrus, domineering plum, & believable coconut, leading into cardamom. Aldehydic only enough to lift the heavy fruit. The heart is not outstanding. It serves to keep the top notes aloft rather than to speak its own voice. I get some deep rose, maybe Damascan? There is the inkling of a cat-pee note that I sometimes get in fruity scents such as guava or peach. The final drydown presents subdued exotic spice, sandal, and a trace of figgy plum atop a synthetic "white musk", akin to that in drugstore frags. Longevity very good, which it should be at $225 for 50ml of Eau de Parfum. The packaging is gorgeous.
Incidentally, there is a decent and easily available California Zinfandel by the brand of Rombauer which is the oenologic twin of this scent. I enjoy it with one particular girlfriend, since my husband won't tolerate it...On that note, I don't find this fragrance particularly unisex. It is a velvety, sexy, womanly scent. I agree with Beth Ashley that it's not "dangerous" in the olfactory sense, but it most certainly could invite a dangerous liasion....
"While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads" was the line that came to mind when I first tried Liaisons Dangereuses - Not that sugar-plums are actual plums - but either way it was the juicy sweetness of the plum that that made me think of it.
At the heart of this fragrance the plum mellows out and the wood and cinnamon notes add warmth to its sugary scent. The marketing of this fragrance makes it seem like a dangerously sexy scent, where I would classify it as being playful, warm and sweet.
Overall it is a wearable and high quality scent but still not complex or mysterious enough to warrant its name or price tag.
My first attempt to try this scent from a sample given to me. It does have a strong plum note mixed with a slight floral note.
This perfume is kinda hard to wear. I have only had it on for three hours and has not blended well with me.
Before I discard this scent, I will give it another try on a different day.
Not a perfume you would want to wear after a night of partying w/friends (too much Sake, last night).
Despite being termed unisex, I absolutely cannot imagine this on a man...it is entirely too sweet.
I *almost* love it. I say almost because it is just a little bit too sweet, too cloying, too much of something I can't quite put my finger on. Heart notes blend together to smell like some kind of berry jam, but then the cinnamon kicks in and it's just not pleasant any more and my head starts to spin.
After two or three hours, it's much more wearable and the dry-down is beautiful with a musky sandalwood, cinnamon, and just a trace of plum and rose. At this point it reminded me a little of Amouage's Lyric for women, which I adore.
I really want to like this, but it just isn't well-balanced to my nose. If I hadn't only used a drop of it to test, I would suggest sampling again in a smaller dose...but I couldn't get much smaller than that. Oh well...guess that saves me about $225 USD! :)
---------------------------------------
Update:
Okay, I have officially eaten crow. I tried this sample again recently and fell in love with it. Maybe my chemistry was off that day or something, I don't know, but it sure works for me now! I dove in and bought a bottle...
It's "lazily" sexy...imagine two lovers laying around nude with rumpled sheets, feeding plums and grapes to each other while sipping champagne. I'll also add that it smells more masculine on clothing and paper than on skin. It's much juicier and sweeter when applied directly to the skin.
I was surprised to find that the lock and key in the packaging are fully functional...interesting, eh? I'll be able to lock it up and keep my step-daughter from using my expensive perfume...nice!!! ;)
