Rose Oud was created in 2010 in cooperation with Calice Becker of such notes as rose, oud, saffron and Guaiac wood. The fragrance is available as 50ml EDP, and its flacon is, just like in Pure Oud, decorated with a golden plate and with characteristic engravings.
lovelly light oud. It is to my personal taste rose and oud - somehow light and deep at the same time. Airy. It is all about using purest natural ingredients - oud can not be replaced.
The rose in By Kilian ROSE OUD is very pronounced, which makes this perfume feel rather feminine to me. There is also a strong saffron presence, so the first time I donned this composition I thought immediately of Bond no 9 NY OUD. However, when I re-tried the Bond earlier today, I discovered that the saffron was far more dominant than the rose in that composition.
What I am not detecting a lot of in these rose-saffron-oud perfumes is the third member of the triad: oud. It may be that I am more sensitive to saffron than to oud, and so the oud note ends up being overwhelmed by the saffon. In any case, what's in a name?
ROSE OUD is a beautiful perfume which blooms as a rose and dries down as a saffron rose. The rose abides through and through. I highly recommend this creation for testing by rose lovers. It may not give the oud-ies the fix they're looking for. To my nose, this is a floriental, not an oriental woody perfume.
I suspect that ROSE OUD may be too feminine for some gents. I, on the other hand, would love to have a bottle.
I've just tried this from a sample and it's really soft, well-blended and cozy. There's none of the initial sharpness of Montale's White Aoud (another rose, saffron, oud.
I do find something in here that is similar to People of the Labyrinth's Amaze too, this is milder than that and warmer.
I also find it creamy, which is why I keep comparing it to sandalwood in my mind, though I'm not sure if this is one of the ingredients. It does remind me of Sandalwood attar alot (something that I own a few ml of and never wear because even as a gift I know how expensive it was) Sandalwood attar is more creamy and rounded than the pure oil.
Wish I could afford more than just a sample of this though.
"Rose oud is a feminine interpretation of oud, using the luxurious petals of the Turkish rose and giving birth to a scent that is both rich and opulent yet confortably familiar"
Opens up with the most natural and best smelling rose I have ever smelled! So bright, pure and delicate!
This aura persists for about four hours on my skin and then the oud starts to appear mixed with some sort of ammonia (??) aroma which isn't good as the first four hours but still pleasant enough since the roses just does not disappear.
I know a lot of people have an utter disdain for Killian first is the prices second is the packaging. I don't particularly like paying $200 for a fragrance but I do find the marketing of Killian to be tasteful if not impressive (the little key coffins are gorgeous and very elegant bottles). So with that said.....
Ahhh Rose Oud, where to start? Rose Oud is a Rose fragrance. Unlike Rose 31 where Rose is sort of around, Rose Oud is Rose in its entirety. There is Oud there but for those who had Oud it wouldn't be a problem here because it is curtailed by the Rose, Saffron and rounded by the woods. What you have is a a green/sour rose with the subtle oud, then the saffron kicks in making it sweeter as the same time the rose sort of moves from the sour category and becomes red almost like a boquet and the oud turns almost to an incense type of vibe and what you are left with is a sweet rose/saffron with a hint of incense like oud (incense isn't in the notes) with maybe some slight woods.
The longevity is superb and the projection is good. If you have tried Incense Oud this would be an 7.5 in projection after the first few hours while Incense would be a 10. Longevity is in the 10 hour range maybe longer but it is closer to the skin at around 7 hours. I have gotten a few compliments but nothing chart topping.
Overall this is a sexy fragrance it leans a bit more towards the masculine side but a woman wearing this would be sooooo sexy (I like women in darker fragrances). The refill for this is quite reasonable so you don't have to break the bank but it is still relatively expensive (3.50/ML). If you like a subtle oud and a deep rose then this fragrance is definitely worth sampling. It works well with my chemistry and is one of three Kilians I own (Cruel Intentions and Sweet Redemption being the others).
Kilian is my favorite house as I have given each fragrance I reviewed top notch ratings and this one is definitely a 5 star for me. I love Sweet Rose scents. Next I need him to make me a Rose/Amber/Vanilla scent and I would probably bathe in it :o)
My eyes rolled back in my head. I never want to exhale when I smelled this.
I havent written a review for a long tim, but Rose Oud deserves one so here it goes.
I have samples of undiluted oud from Oriscent, let me start by saying that the oud in Rose Oud share some similarity with those precious oils but is in no way close to their richness and flair. That doesn't make Rose Oud less special. 1 ml of undiluted oud costs somewhere between 80-100 $ and you get 50 ml of Rose Oud for 395 $, that's a pretty good deal. Or is it? The oud in Rose Oud seems to be blended with sandalwood, incense, cedarwood and other components to dilute it. I'm sure there is a lot of synthetics involved.
I still like Rose Oud. In fact, I think it is gorgeous. It opens with the loveliest rose, probably moroccan. I see the rose in Rose Oud to be candy pink and not carnal red. A candy pink rich rose note laced with sweet saffron and warm cardamom. The saffron takes no metallic edge, I find it similar to the saffron in Safran Troublant.
Rose Oud is like waking up on christmas morning with your lover having brought you a tray with fresh roses, your favorite morning coffee and cardamom/saffron buns.
Further along it's development the rose takes a step back but never disappears. A soft incense note emerges, something like olibanum pearls perhaps, along with musk and amber. A very cozy end to a jammy opening.
Calice Becker is a true artist in creating multiple layered fragrances. Thats what keeps Rose Oud interesting during it's whole life span on skin.
I don't care for this much either, but I wouldnt mind it if someone would gift me this. The scent definitely has rose in here, but It's a bit acidic/sour, and I am not sure why. Oud is very very quiet. I mean it's just not enough Oud in here. Maybe Killian doesn't want it to come on too masculine. Everything about this fragrance is mild and quite transparent to my nose (of course I smelled the Incense Oud beforehand doesn't help either). At this price range, I am not going to even think of buying. I just simply can't afford it. I'd rather save it for a car payment or mortgage.
I'll be honest here. Nothing pleases me more than rose + oud combo, it just suits me perfectly, so I was extremely excited to try this creation by Kilian, although none of the perfumes from this house have done wonders for my skin.
So here we go. The first blast was beautiful, but oh how disappointing - it lasted only for few seconds and I was left with what I can only describe as disappointment. The same I felt when I tested "Pure oud" by the same company. What's wrong with oud here? It just feels terrible, it's not the sharp, sexy oud I'm used to from Montale, here it yet again smells like burnt rubber and the rose is so shy and soapy that I can't even feel it.
How can one ruin my favorite combo so badly?
To masculine for me. Well, even when I am ,,into dark'' and when i need warm fragrancs i need also one note, wchich can break those oud monotony.
Very long lasting, and rose in that is so shy and beautiful :)
I feel a little divided about Rose Oud. It`s a kind of conflict between the fragrance and the price i think.
They have named it right. Rose Oud is not centered on the oud, but on the rose. And the perfumer that created it mastered it`s note. Calice Becker is well known for creating successful rose fragrances. Roses at her hand always take impressive paths, and Rose Oud is not an exception. The Rose she picked here start green, slightly sour, and then keeps going on a velvet and lushious direction as the times goes by.
The Roses take a wine-y direction after two hours, and altough they seem to have a dark aroma, it`s a silky, romantic one, that seems to have a soft canddle-light.
The Oud here assumes a secondary role, as a supporter for the beautiful rose to glow. If you have already worn some agarwood fragrances, you`ll notice it`s warm, woody aroma here, infused with the spicy touch of saffron and a creamy light cardamom. They never steal the scene of rose, but they dress it very well.
What really turns me off here is the price. 400 bucks, really? It`s a great rose-oud-safrron fragrance, but it`s not earthshaking or that you couldn`t find something similar for a half or a quarter of the price. Seems overpriced, you`re paying here more for the Kilian name and the fancy box. If you loved this oud fragrance, i suggest you first exploring montale scents and midnight oud by juliette has a gun. Far better priced than this one. Or if you really want a rose-oud-saffron fragrance that cost a kidney, why don`t go straight for an amouage attar? There you`ll pay the price of extremely quality materials.
I find this to be a gentle, easy to wear, oud, and combined with the rose and saffron, a very lovely scent. It lasts for 12 hours on me and stays beautiful all that time. I, personally, do not find it too sweet. Of course, the price for a larger size is a problem.
If you have tried the Montale Oud series and thought it too harsh, there are many other great options to consider (for example, Amouage Epic, for a masterful blend of rose, saffron, and oud). By Kilian, however, seems set on re-defining my expectations of what an oud fragrance smells like in introducing Rose Oud. And roses it is, or rather, rose jam. Don’t get me wrong. I like it a lot! In fact, it is the most delectable rose jam I can hope to try.
The rose petals are bright and pink from the very beginning, and they are tastefully spiced with just a trace of saffron. I keep sniffing to find the oud as the fragrance develops, and, yes, it is there, but to say that it is subtle may be an understatement. It is more than subtle. It is barely discernable although it does provide just enough richness and depth to the whole composition to make it well-balanced.
What is not so subtle on my skin is how sweet it is. It is delightfully yummy, and it quite literally prompted me to scour the local stores in search of the exotic rose treat. While oud may be present as a note in this perfume, I think that another name—for instance, Rose Praline—could be a more apt description. In its texture, By Kilian’s creation is almost sticky. In fact, it reminded me of another sweet rose fragrance, Keiko Mecheri Gourmandises, which is similarly viscous as Rose Oud.
If you like your roses sweet, spiced with saffron, and gourmand, you may end up craving Rose Oud just as much as I do. If you like your oud better defined and, generally, sweet roses are not your spoon of jam, look elsewhere. (Micallef Rose Aoud could be another option as it is also deliciously rosy, but less sweet, and the oud is bolder there.)
Sillage is not powerful, but this fragrance clings softly to my skin and lasts for a very long time.
One of the problems with sampling perfumes as a hobby is that you get 'bored' and need bigger and bigger findings to get the perfume high.
Out of every twenty or so that i try, only one will really work for me. The rest are just OK or downright irritating.
But every once in a while... maybe a few times a year... I hit the fragrant jackpot. Rose Oud is one such pot of gold.
The opening is so amazing that i started berating myself for every other oud I thought I liked, how could I have settled? This is such a pure, smooth and glorious rose/saffron mix.
But first impressions can be fleeting. Happily Rose Oud doesn't deteriorate into a stink, but it does get sweeter on me. now that I'm in hour 4, I can say that I still like it, but i'm not as delirious over it. Cost, which some would argue against bringing up, is an issue (let's be realistic) This is just not a $400 perfume.
All in all, good to try, and if it were $150-$180 i would most likely buy it. But as it is, there are too many competitors out there that make me just as happy.
This is truly a beautiful blend of Rose & Oud. This scent was an instant love.
The smell of the roses sent me back into a memory recognition of Maja Soap from Spain. This soap was used by my grandmother and I loved that memory of her.
I can see this fragrance being worn more by a woman due to the intense rose notes, but I highly recommend for all.
I have loved testing this scent. Each day I wear it, I fall in love with the fragrance and memory it brings back of my grandmother.
Although this reminds me of my grandmother, I would not call this an "old lady scent." This is a modern & updated version of a classic rose perfume.
The Oud and Guaiac Wood notes gives it a touch of masculinity(which comes to play after an hour). I can see any confident male wear this with pride, no matter how the "sexuality" of the scent is marketed.
The original Pure Oud is awful but this is decidedly a better fragrance, though not by much. It still has the disgusting so called "oud" base, which smells like chemicals here, with a pretty rosey overlay. The overlay is quite nice but does not last enough and eventually only the chemicals shine through. Not worth it. Montale's Rose Aouds are much better.
