This is my favorite perfume of all time. I have a great deal of trouble wearing perfumes--they interact chemically with my skin and come off smelling much different than they did in the bottle! Byblos is one of the few (Joy and Poison being the other two) perfumes that remains true to the smell right out of the bottle. I love this one in that it exudes a light, but very different scent from most perfumes. Whenever I wear it, I get compliments about how it isn't overwhelming, but subtle and "me." Guess you can't get a better compliment than that!
Just as the exquisite and expressive packaging would suggest, Byblos is a magical potion that transports you to a tranquil, peacful and exotic paradise at sundown.
Calm, still waters, Luscious fruit trees and fragrant flowers.
Byblos is a rare gem of it's era . Unlike other fragrances of the late 80"s, early 90's, it is not bold, glaring or over the top, but subtle, understated and sophisticated. Nor is it driping in syrupy sweetness like many of the fruity/florals produced in recent years. Thr notes in Byblos are beautifully blended and perfectly balanced, delicate, natural and delicious.
Never have I experienced another fruity/floral with such warmth, depth and groundedness. Nor have I experienced another which imparts such a soothing and comforting effect to the wearer.
Byblos is truly a unique, beautiful and timeless creation, and while it is quite difficult to come by these days, Has all the makings to become a great classic.
I came back to write more because this perfume is really wonderful and makes me feel happy and calm. It's just one that keeps on giving, I also thought about similarities last night and it came to me it shares dry down with Lalique Encre Noir which I absolutely adore too. The first sprays and first 20 minutes of this scent are very different from each other so allow it to do it's magic. All phases of this juice are excellent and keep me coming back for more and I will. Not something I generally say because there are so many perfumes and so little tim
What a find! What a stunner! I think of violets and sweet fresh berries! What a delicious
Surprise and without being sweet and overbearing. This is a very beautifully made scent and in my opinion has no era mark to it. In other words I do not think it has a date stamp on it. This is an any time and any occasion scent that just simply is elegant and classy and is to be treasured..... And the bottle is darling too!
I absolutely adore this perfume. First purchased in the 90's after my friend returned from her trip to Italy with a bottle. I instantly fell in love and was amazed at the time that this fragrance was available at my local mall! I jumped at the chance to purchase this!
And I'm really not nor was I ever a big 'fruit' fan. I dont like smelling like a walking fruit, lol.. and normally I associate fruity perfumes with teeny bopping, unsophisticated... trend worshipers, lol but this, even tho there is a sort of candied element to it, it's also a very refined very subtle, classy fruity fragrance and in my personal opinion it's very difficult to find a fruity perfume that makes me feel like a lady, at the same time it's very fresh and almost aquatic but with much depth, very interesting but simple perfume ...just gorgeous, irresistable, alluring, understated elegance.
I'm also not a fan of aquatics ..with the exception of the superb 'eau de Monteil' I really dont own any, but this is one of the few exceptions. I am just as much in love with this today as I was when I was first introduced. I may not wear it nearly as much, but the love is most definently still there!
And the bottle is beautiful, exotic....verry nice addition to any collection I have a mini a purse spray and a large bottle , large bottle is empty and am currently buying another. It's out of production so is rare and sometimes expensive but if you look you can get a great deal on this! There was not a huge marketing campaign (atleast not in the states) and I am most greatful for this. Another added bonus is that you are highly unlikely to run into anyone wearing the same. And as far as compliments go, I've yet to wear this without recieving atleast one compliment..usually it's several from both sexes, it's such a welcoming, warm fragrance but not winter warm, summer, but more summer cozy, nicely blended almost creamy, no loud screaching fruit here! I'd even go as far as saying, ''it's almost aromatheraputic (is that a word? lol), makes me feel at peace and calm, i just cant help but to be in love with this perfume
Before reading the notes, I never really picked up raspberry, It smelled almost cantelopish to me maybe wattermellon, but now yes, I can tell a bit of raspberry but it's a soft raspberry, verry pleasing to the sniffing senses :)
oh yes, and for the type of fragrance it is, it last a very good amount of time, usually most perfumes dont last more than a few hours or less on me, especially the lighter ones, but this lasts about 6 hours, for me, that's great! and it stays true to it's nature...doesn't change all that much from initial spritz!
The Florals are so well blended I really don't pick out specific notes ....that is always a plus for me! I love balance in a perfume!
I highly reccommed grabbing a bottle while still available. It's well worth the purchase :)
I love Byblos! Could only buy it at Holt Renfrew when it was still sold in stores in the 90's.
Fantastic, very Italian feeling fruity fresh for me! I smell strawberries, sunshine, grapefruits, a bit of chocolate, oranges, and class.
Have worn for 20 yrs.
Will wear for another 20.
most gorgeous scent ever! delicious smell of cantelope... woods and florals..... vintage and rare.. and still very relllivant ... timeless
Sweet fruty, juice almost. it has it freshnes ,and im shure its nice in the summertime , like a limonade of sweet fruit. but to me this is a bit boring.
i can not pick up all the notes listed , this is a safe one for young girls i would say.
Definitely not the first and second league in the world of fragrances. Very irritating and annoying for me. Sweet or sour? First sweet, than sour. Strawberry, strawberry, strawberry. Very artificial, cloying and sticky. This horrible scent lasts centuries on me.
This perfume was the first that made a lasting impression- back in my teenage years. It actually was the starter of my "career" as a perfume-lover.
It was love at first sniff.
The juice is perfect for summer time- it smells aquatic, floral and not too sweet.
The bottle does the scent justice- I like the expressive blue.
Evoking a secluded bay in Greece, you and nature in harmony, merging with the elements...
In this scent I find serenity and delight...it makes me happy.
I wore it when i was a teen-ager...and now i've found a little bottle of this perfume yet! (30 ml) I like it again, but not as "yesterday", so I can exchange it with one of the fragrances i'm searching for (see my wishlist) :-) (J.from Italy)
Smells nice on other people, but I hate it on me. I find it overwhelmingly fruity - and strangely, I detect mostly strawberries! There is a pleasant peppery note that lingers throughout but that alone is not enough to take the edge off the fruit notes. Quite musky when it dries down.
This was a stunner, so fresh and yet with deep interesting notes that kept appearing at random intervals. When I contemplate some of the overpriced new rubbish coming out almost hourly, it makes me want to weep.
Byblos is a fantastic rich fruity floral. On me, I smell raspberries, grapefruit, roses, and chocolate! I always wore this in the 90's, and is a luscious, juicy & ripe scent! Is the epitome of lush fruity richness! So very tasty....expect to be picked!
my #2 fave scent... love it.. classic rare!
Byblos is really nice. It's a very refreshing and fruity fragrance with tropical floral notes. I definitely detect a candied mandarin scent with maybe a hint of peach. My mother loves it because it reminds her of her favorite flower, the sampaguita flower, which is similar to pikake or maybe star jasmine. If you like orange blossom or neroli, this might be a fresher, sweeter variation for you to try.
I am looking for the byblos that my Italian grandmother used to wear, and i bought before the 1990's. i could swear it had the same lid (with the rose/flower) but it was a tall thin bottle that felt like it was lined with rubber. anywone know what i'm talking about? shawbertie@aol.com
After a couple of weeks of nothing but testing niche perfumes, I had an urge to go back and wear something from my old mini bottle collection. My little cobalt blue bottle of Byblos EdP dates from the time when it first came out. As far as I can tell, it smells exactly the same as it did when I first opened it.
To me, this is a typical 80s style perfume, even though it came at the end of that era. It’s strong, it’s big, it’s unapologetically synthetic-smelling, and it’s pushing the boundary of what I will wear. To me it starts out smelling like violets, lilacs, lilies, melon-like green notes, and pine needles. I find it more floral than fruity, but the pine note gives it a bitter edge that makes the artificial flowers take on a character all their own. This is a fairly linear scent with moderate sillage and longevity. Although not exactly my style, I’ve liked it enough to keep it all this time and wear it occasionally.
Byblos is a more of a fruity fragrance than floral, I think...It's feminine, not cloying, and wears well...It's one of those fragrances you either love or hate...So far, it's love for me!
i like, but more floral by the way is diferent any other smell before!!
What a beautiful composition!
Smelled it on a chick that I fancied in the early 90ies...she almost converted me, lol (I am a gay man)
If I was a young woman, I'd wear it in my 20ies/ early 30ies for daytime spring/summer.
Classic!
The lovely Kastehelmi gave me a mini of this and I LOOOOOOVE it! I HAVE MUST get a BIG bottle of this wonderful pleasure!!!!
Byblos is a very natural and carefree scent. I don`t really smell all those notes listed - by the description I would expect a bright fresh fruity floral, but it is so not true. Honeysuckle, marigold, a touch of fruit....and a pine-marine note - where did this come from? I feel it strongly, if it is possible in such subtle and gentle fragrance.
Byblos is not loud, it whispers with the breeze...but it is very original. I`d like to wear it again sometime.
I bought this when it was introduced and LOVED it. It has become one of my favorite perfumes. It's not over powering, I feel surrounded by pleasant scents.
fotolux's description of this scent is spot on. I particularly loved the part that said "But a musk exposes all sensuality of womanish nature, and vetiver reports that you are woman which independent enough. Nice perfume of the end of that epoch, when a woman yet was a woman and felt free it."
Abso-bloody-lutely, my friend! Couldn't have said it better myself!
In spite of all the blah-blah-blah about liberation, women these days are tyring harder than ever. Don't ask me what they're tyring so hard. It's just there.
I'm glad I'm not young anymore.
Fotolux, you rock!
Interesting fragrance. For me it's a bitter floral with some sweetness,I don't get any fruit, it's hard to pick a specific note. What I do feel is an over all air of roses, possibly green ones, not your average bouquet of freshly cut. I doubt it will ever be a favorite of mine but Byblos is intriguing all the same.
Just got my new bottle today. This perfume is for day wear , fruity with out being overpowering like some scents.I used this many years ago and loved it. I work in a hospital and this fragrance is not offensive at all.
Wear this since 93.my top floral fruity.love the raspberry in it.and all of the fruits and flower in it.well blend long lasting.and feminine too.different and one of a kind.summer and happy times.
They have a half full tester bottle of this at the mall for less tha $10.00 and I was going to get it and try it out when I smell the sprayer it smells really good,I might go back and buy it.I just wish it was a full bottle.
I think this is a very distinctive fragrance. I can pick it out in a crowd right away. I named it on a coworker the first time she wore it even though I hadn't smelled it in at least 10 years (I used to wear it in the late 90's).
It's fresh and a bit sassy. Sweet and tart, but not sugary. I can smell the grapefruit opening, which is quickly joined with honeysuckle and rose. I think of it as a fresh and bright scent, it was always a little strong on me, but it lasted a long while.
How is it possible not to love Byblos? It is smooth, tart and a bit enigmatic. It`s green and warm simultaneously. Begins - as a small basket with fruits. Bitterish and fresh acerbity of bergamot is interlaced with sweet freshness of juicy mandarin. It`s so cheerful. The summer smell of blackberry is added from childhood. A scent gets warm because of smell of juicy peach and as though prepares us to transformations. Gradually fruits turn pale, depart on the second plan, become a background for a huge flower bouquet. And he indeed ... fantastic. A fluffy yellow fresh mimosa and tender lilies of the valley with soft powdery note of hiris and a little bit of white lilies which gives warmth and implication to the scent. But the most wonderful in Byblos it is beautiful sillage. Warm generosity of raspberry as though returns us to the prelude of scent. The tender almond milkness of heliotrope tries to prove femininity of this scent. But a musk exposes all sensuality of womanish nature, and vetiver reports that you are woman which independent enough. Nice perfume of end of that epoch, when a woman yet was a woman and felt free it.
I DID buy a 100mL bottle of this at a perfume store for $9.99 USD and can't believe how good I feel about it! :) I was looking for a summer floral and found it in this...the combination of peach, grapefruit, and mimosa make it fresh and distinctive in a world of super sweet fruity florals. I can't detect lily of the valley or any musk in the base. Lasted 4 to 5 hours, not bad for $10!!!
i almost bought a bottle of this today because it was on sale for ten dollars at a perfume store. the bottle looks nice and it smells okay but is not memorable. try it out before taking the leap to buy it off the internet. you may love it, you may hate it. :)
For years, this has been my Christmas scent, though I know people wear it as a summer scent more often. Mandarin is the tangerine in the stocking, spice is cider, the cool notes represent the weather. I can see this being masculine on someone who wears florals better, but I don't wear traditional florals all that well. This requires attitude, but if you have the right one, it's bright and cheerful.
Top Notes: Mandarin, grapefruit, cassie, marigold, bergamot, peach
Heart Notes: Honeysuckle, gardenia, mimosa, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley, orchid, rose, heliotrope, violet, orris Base Notes: Musk, vetiver, pepper, raspberry
one of the first frags I had. love the top notes so much. unfortunately, the base notes were so masculine people asked why i stole my bf's perfume instead of wearing my own :-)
It's an ok fragrance, I like the bottle design better than the smell.
