Le 3` Homme de Caron Caron for men Pictures

The inclusion of exotic fruits and fresh floral notes makes this an innovation in men’s fragrance. And it remains modern and instantly recognizable, even over a decade after its introduction. Le 3` Homme de Caron was launched in 1985.

Le 3` Homme de Caron Fragrance Reviews

Shocked me intensely; I wonder and I fell in love.
I got hint of something burning insanely mixed with leathery/floral and sub-tone of citruses that present only in the opening step. The middle is unbelievably masculine and erotic, seems it's made up from testosterone only! In this step I clearly reminded Japon Noir from Tom Ford; same burnt smoky waxy heavy darkness.
It's not a perfume you worry about its date; it's not a day-fashion nor a old school stuff; it's a timeless super masculine charismatic mature scent that I guarantee women fell in love.

This scent is mainly floral, a very masculine floral which has a sweet and semi green feel about it.
To me the fragrance opens with a burst of bergamot/lemon and lavender and hints of fresh corriander, these are the the main notes i get in the opening.

The bergamot/lemon does not stay too long on the skin it is maninly in the opening of the scent and is something that blends into the scent rather than stand out. Actually the whole top of this scent just blends in so well. The lavender lasts a little longer imo. i get hints of vetiver and moss now and again but only in small amounts.

i find the florals the main notes, and i do get the jasmin. there is also a light leather note in the fragrance that is so smooth and well bleanded that you can easily miss.
The scent is a very powdery scent but it's a very well done powdery scent in my opinion, there is tonka and vannila which adds a hint of sweetness, and the rest of the sweetness i get is floral sweetness.
This scent does not smell dated at all, considering it was realeased in 1985. It's a very well blended fragrance nothing jumps out of place. A very clean floral classy scent.
It has a very elegant and sopisticated feel about it.
It has good sillage and lasts between 8-10 hours, and mainly stays close to the skin after the first four hours.

Scent 8.5/10

Third Man does not encourage me to examine it in forensic detail; it’s more a question of accepting the bigger picture. It exudes a sense of optimism, a beam of light betwixt a sea of gunmetal grey clouds. This must surely be a plausible treatment for seasonally affected disorder, a fragrant vitamin B12 shot if you will.

Like Caron’s other great classics, it is pretty linear, but that great citric, lightly sweet and powdery accord is so perfect, it doesn't need to evolve.

A huge fan of the Caron house - so, although I have smelled The Third Man numerous times in my life...I always went for something else (usually mainstream). Well, as I have gotten a bit more mature in taste - I have found myself going back to the things in life that I felt were perhaps "ahead" of my age - but quality nonetheless. Purchased the bottle and could not be happier. This is a truly wonderful creation - artistic, clean, yet with strength and vigor. I would shy away from saying unisex. I have some great Caron bottles that are unisex (Eau de Reglisse is a perfect example - incredible fragrance!) but this is more masculine. missk and alfarom (both of whom have fantastic olfactory senses and perspective) have covered this well, so I don't want to be redundant - but I am in full agreement with Attar in his perspective. The composition is truly wonderful and showcases the Caron house's ability to craft unique and discerning fragrance. And, to paraphrase alfarom, this is not for everyone to wear, but it will showcase your strength through intelligence and mannered kindness...this exudes class. The cost is a pittance, like most Caron fragrances, for what you get. Extremely good - solid 8.5/10.

I wore it in the regular way for the first time today (one spray to chest). The opening is strong and harsh, so I tried to avoid the top notes as much as possible. The fougere accord itself is rather muted here, and it's partnered to a slightly indolic jasmine. Behind these is a sweet, lemon-tinted thing (labdanum, vanilla, benzoin?) that would be too sweet on its own but is cut down somewhat by the other elements. I'm not sure if it's the rosemary, lavender, and/or jasmine, but something is providing a kind of herbal "backbone" to this fragrance. One thing I noticed is that there is no patchouli (that I can detect).

Often, it seems, patchouli is used to cut down on sweetness and add some dynamism, for example, in Roadster, but here, if you don't pick up the lavender/jasmine/herbal quality well, it can come across as too sweet, because nothing else present is strong enough to counteract it. And that, I think, is why many consider this one to be "unisex." Over time, the sweetness seems to subside a little bit, with a mossy aspect coming forward in a subtle way, and while this is not cotton candy sweet, it rates pretty high to me. What I dislike most about it, on the days that I can tolerate this level of sweetness, is how it becomes rather one-dimensional. There isn't much dynamism, so you either like it as a smell or you don't. If you are going to sit a lot, this is more likely to become cloying. If you are going to walk around a lot, then consider wearing this one that day.

A classic aromatic fougère, good clean manly fun. The lavender freshness is there, the bitter coumarin is there. But so is the jasmine. And isn’t she fetching! A non-indolic jasmine brings a pretty, clean floralcy to the lavender. But there is also a burnt note that darkens the whole composition and adds an angular element. The bitter coumarin and some moss join the stark/burnt accord to keep things from getting too breezy. It all comes together with a juxtaposition of clean florals and singed bitterness. It’s a remarkable trick. It reads as a dank fougère but with jasmine surpassing the lavender as the floral note of record. Recently, while in Palm Springs CA in the hot desert summer, I found what I recognized in the burnt quality. The dark accord is just like the smell of creosote bushes in 115 degree heat. They have a singed quality that 3ème Homme nails. (This is not the creosote derived from coal tar. Creosote bush has a waxy, dark, bitter green scent, but after literally baking in the sun, it is smoky/waxy.)

However it was composed, 3ème Homme leads with both the gruff and the lovely, and keep them both out front throughout the dry-down. Sort of butch and femme in one.

This is my first review, so bear with me...

Le Troisiemme opens with a loud burst of lemon-y citrus and quickly moves into a beautiful array of floral notes and oakmoss, then settles into a musky sweet vanilla, amber-y, clove-y cedarwood base (the drydown is my favourite aspect of this EDT). I smell different things on different days, so it keeps me interested for the duration of the fragrance, which is quite long-lived.

So-so projectivity, but excellent sillage. Two spritzes to each shoulder of my shirt allows me to sneak a whiff whenever I please (several times an hour usually does it for me). I wear it almost daily.
Having grown up in a sea of Acqua di Gio's, ck1's, and Lacoste's, I found this to be a superb alternative, if not due to it's incredible evolution than due to the harmony with which the notes are blended. Life changing, for me at least. This fragrance opened my mind to what a fragrance can do and be. Available for a mere pittance, as well.

Update:

I originally bought The Third Man blind for $20. It's definitely too floral, powdery, "dandified", whatever you wanna call it, for me. That being said, before I sell it off, I plan to save myself an ounce or so to revisit The Third Man in the future, when I'm ready. It's definitely a quality fragrance, just not for me.

Sprightly, harshly sparkling like a zirconium necklace trying to be mistaken for diamond jewellery. Too much for my nose even when worn by another. My bottle will last another ten years.

If I had to describe this fragrance using one word that'd be "Rigor". Like all Caron's male fragrances this one is an eulogy to style (in genuine Man's sense), strength, confidence, solidity and onliness. The fragrance suits more for warmer seasons, though It's Caron therefore there's no such notion as Suitable Season). Lemon, lavender and vetyver are in my opinion dominant notes in the fragrance. Lemon makes it sweet, tranquil though bergamot still keeps it (the fragrance) still a bit tough and keen, sharp. Though as the day passes by to change the sharpness comes affability, style in men's understanding of that word. Lavender makes Le 3 clean and fresh. Vetyver and moss brings a sort of brutality and maturity. Generally, i put "A" to this fragrance for its uniqueness, simplicity and man's spirit which i think is common for all Caron men's fragrances (specially: Pour un Homme, Yatagan).
PS. One significant advantage of all Caron's fragrances is their longevity which is truly amazing and beyond words.

I'm a Caron fan and this is undoubtably very well composed... but there is something hard, brutal and synthetic in the floral mix that bumps up against my nose like a wooden mallet and gives me a massive headache.

I really wanted to like it but I find it completely unwearable.

A masculine floral of the highest caliber, The Third Man recalls Ungaro II and Tiffany for Men with its various floral qualities similar to the powderiness of Tiffany for Men and the floral/civet elements of Ungaro II. I prefer The Third Man, however, as I find it smoother and more accessible than Tiffany and Ungaro, because it's not as powdery and not as subtly fecal. The Third Man also has a smooth "masculine" note thrown in, giving it a certain warmth. Probably the lavender. This makes it warmer and more approachable than Ungaro II, as well, while Ungaro II seems cold and dissociative (not knocking on Ungaro II lovers; it just ain't for me). Tiffany for Men is good, but I can only wear it once in a while do to it being so powdery.

Granted, The Third Man is not for everyone - it's still a wee bit powdery, but as it dries down it gets better and better. I think every guy with a serious interest in fragrances should at least try The Third Man to get an idea of what a quality masculine floral is (along with Ténéré by Paco Rabanne, Tiffany for Men, and Insensé by Givenchy).

Projection and longevity are very good - this is a great fragrance for a formal occasion, and a great fragrance in general! It's unique and smells kinda..... "pink"! Haha.

A great alternative to ignorance and rudeness.

Le Troisieme Homme De Caron together with Insensè are among the best masculine floral compositions around. They both emphasize a cultured masculinity and prefer it to the unbuttoned shirts and furry chests virility.

A multi coloured and quite complex fragrance that opens with a classic fresh lavander and bergamot accord to then turn smoky, darker and aromatic with hints of rosemary and fern joined by remakable floral patterns. The drydown it's warmer and sweeter with vanilla and tonka juxtaposed to a remarkable woody presence and animalic-musks. Simply perfect. Le Troisieme Homme has a few peculiar aspects that make of it quite a distinctive fragrance that's so hard to be described as all the elements are skillfully orchestrated in an unique blend. A must try.

Surely not for everybody but if you're not afraid of showing your strenght through intelligence and mannered kindness, this is for you.

I like my cloves with sweet notes (for example Balenciaga Quadrille).

It is not for me the smoke around it makes me smell like as if I was a smoker myself which is not the case (nowadays anyway).

Le 3' Homme de Caron, and like most masculine Caron scents, is a fragrance with a lot of what I call, 'oomph'.

It's hard to find fragrances like this these days that represent the way a manly man should smell. This fragrance opens with such power and masculinity that it's difficult to resist a tester card sprayed with this, let alone a man.

It's perhaps not as 'savage' as Yatagan, but Le 3' Homme de Caron is fiercely green and herbaceous in its opening. As it settles, lavender, sweet lemon and clove are apparent.

For the first hour or so this is all about being a man, however towards the drydown it takes on a powdery accord and a sweetness that can only be likened to the scent of shaving foam. This is where female consumers may feel obliged to wear this fragrance themselves.

It manages to be refined yet sensual, and upon further testing it seems that there's a touch of vanilla in there somewhere too. It's a pity that Caron's masculine fragrances have been overshadowed by the ghastly aromatics and aquatics as of late. I would buy up on scents such as these just to keep them in the market.

Older men probably prefer this over the younger generation but I can only encourage them as a young twenty year old woman to broaden their horizons. This is not dated despite being made in the 80's and is in my opinion, one of the finest woody aromatic scents for men that I've had the pleasure of smelling.

Wonderfully complex, soothing and classy, a man should not go past this classic Le 3' Homme de Caron.

I got this one from my friend (thank you, dear michael) who knows I do not like flowery, girly scents. At first spray I thought "oh no, way too masculine" But then that drydown started and YUM!!!!!! The clove is really evident on my skin, which I really like.
As a woman I will have no problem wearing this at all. Ladies, give it a try!

BTW...if you look at michaels' review below where he says he has two bottles of le 3 homme because he likes it so much-well, not anymore because I've got one! :)

This is all about the drydown; initially it is a bit to bubblegummy but the drydown is very sophisticated.

This is a "spray it on and feel good fragrance". IMO it's suitable to wear anytime, anywhere, and for any occasion.Supposedly named after the Orson Wells film "The Third Man" released in 1949.
I like this one so much,I own two bottles of it.
