"Roadster" definitely strikes me as a fragrance that is smooth and classy from start to finish. It undergoes some changes throughout the evolution.

Mint is definitely the star of the opening act, nothing harsh or synthetic about it. More like a fine mint julep than an average mouthwash. After an hour or so, the mint fades into the background, and the vetiver takes over. "Roadster" moves from fresh opening to a more earthy lean. This change is more of the fresh cut grass than smoky pungent ashtray kind. Like a freshly washed t-shirt that got a sweaty workout on someone who showered just before workout, and rubbed into grass. This new identity wasn't put-offish, but more like moving from the "absolutely adore smelling" category into the "don't mind occasionally projecting this vibe" type.

Projection was solid, yet not overwhelming. I got at least 6 hours on my skin (swim workout and shower time by then). In a world where so many frags are gone within 2 hours on my skin, this is very good performance. Based on this test spray, I'm tempted to add "Roadster by Cartier" to my rotation.

This fragrance is definitely something you should smell before you make a decision. I blind bought this and fortunately iv'e found a place for this one. When i first smelled it, i was brought back to my early childhood for some strange reason but i do not ever recall smelling this. It's very different and unique which is why i like it. No need to be redundant on here and state the obvious, so if you have an open mind to scents that are different and have a cool, soft feel to them, give this one a try. Personally i would recommend this one for cooler weather. It can definitely get cloying in the summer especially here in Florida, as it is a sweeter scent...Performance is great, and no more than 3 sprays should suffice.

Yes, there's mint in it, no need to mention it anymore i guess, especially since there seem to be people out there that can only smell the mint and nothing else.

I don't really get that, I think it's quite a sophisticated scent actually.

Even though some people claim the opposite, to my nose the mint and patchouly are very well balanced, hints of wood and vetiver give it a refined touch, the vanilla adds a kind warmness to it, making it great to wear on dinners or business related events.

To me the scent is classy and cozy, not too heavy, not too light either, well balanced and comfortable to wear, also not offensive because of the moderate projection.

Works very well on summer evenings, and might work just as well in every season, in that aspect it's quite versatile, even though it's perfect on more formal occasions, i don't think you need to be all dressed up to wear it either, so it might be a great signature scent.

In short: Classy, cozy, warm, kinda fresh, and pretty versatile.

- Scent :8.5/10
- Sillage :7/10 (not too strong, but just perfect for this type of scent) So imo 10/10
- Longevity :8/10

Total: 8/10 I really love it.

Tested on Sephora on my summer rotation tests, actually looking for one with good projection/longevity, and to me it’s a huge pass.

The opening lured me into a lovely first impression: fresh, clean, very aquatic (despite I don’t see aquatic notes), elegant, classy and unique. I loved the anticitrus feeling, making it a bit different than most of the other designer summer scents.
So after the amazing first mint top notes, I insta sprayed on my arm and my friend liked it a lot, she said was really nice and we continued looking for more fragrances. When I smelled Roadster on my arm again, a few minutes later, was totally different.
Unpleasent with a strong old vibe, too potent and without the fresh notes of the opening. It turned into an earthy herbal vanilla/vetiver bomb, not refined at all and very chaotic.
We smelled several times on the next 3 hours, and agreed it wasn’t nice at all (on the paper also smelled bad, so I don’t think it was a skin issue).

Anyways, longevity and projection monster for sure. Lasted on my skin a full day with great sillage, after a shower on the next day I could still smell it without effort.
The bottle is beautiful but the cap sucks.

Scent: 4/10
Longevity: 10/10
Projection: 9/10
Season: I’d say spring over summer, and even fall.
Age: 35 and up.

What can I say about this fragrance? Probably one of the best designer fragrances ever released and arguably the best mint rather niche or designer (and yes I am considering Geranium Pour Monsieur from Malle).

The opening is a big mint..bombastic, spicy, cooling as if you just bathed in an expensive mint soap, the cooling effect gives way and the vetiver takes center stage, but is accompanied by a very smooth and natural vanilla. The fragrance is relatively sweet and spicy with the bold mint still floating around and this is where I think this fragrance outright destroys every other mint on the market. This lasts from maybe the first 30 minutes down into the 4 hour mark.

The vanilla calms down and the mint though very presence now plays second fiddle to the sharp and bold vetiver (think Terre d'Hermes). This vetiver carries the fragrance to its end. There is still a gorgeous mint, a slight glaze of vanilla but this becomes about the vetiver about 5 hours in (consistently testing). I would add there is a bit of added sweetness by the labdandum but it is just enough to not let the vetiver become a nuisance to the wearer.

I am not one for bottle presentation as you can't see this one buried amongst its friends; however, the bottle is beautiful and very durable and maybe the most unique in my collection. This is extremely versatile, a signature for anyone who enjoys mint and vetiver and an outright classic! First ballot hall of famer this one is.

Scent: 5/5
Durability: 5/5 (lasts forever and projects very well)
Versatility: 5/5
Value: even at retail 5/5 but can be had for much less
Overall: 5/5 top ten designer in my opinion could be top 3!

This is a fresh minty aromatic fragrance. Not everyone will smell the mint top note but will get lots of fresh like herbs and woody notes. I'm finding this perfect for spring and will continue through summer. Lots of compliments with this one, fresh and uplifting smell but not clinical and it was a blind buy for me.

Edit This is a great compliment generator from women and men. Everyone loves this smell,

I don't like scents where mint is surrounded by sweet notes like vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin etc. And Roadster is unfortunately such kind of scent.

The mint in here is too sweet. It's not uplifting at all, to me it's rather like mint candy, not spearmint/peppermint gum. Unfortunately labdanum makes vanilla even more powerful.

For me it can't be a spring based fragrance. I would rather use it in fall, eventually in early winter.

Why, Cartier?

UPDATE: Oh man, after whole day of wearing it I can surely say the longevity is good, on my skin solid 8 hours plus next 2 hours as a close to skin scent trail. But the mint candy-like smell evolved into... powdery talc! I definitely don't want to smell like this. A pass.

I'm not one of those who admire all of men's fragrances, but I literally fall for this one!very unique and well balanced in my opinion.
it smells aromatic, woody and earthy.there's slightly a bitter aroma which makes it more complicated.but also vanilla tenders the scent.as the pyramid of notes shows the smelling doesn't differ during the time.the long lasting power's great and the aroma is present but not something on your nose.
totally great for every season and men in all ages.if I were a man, this would definitely be one of my top 5.

Strangely this reminds me of the insert booklet from the album "Friction, Baby" by Better Than Ezra from way back in the late 90's. Very strange. Anyway, I love the mint in this. Sharp and herbal at the start. The vanilla comes in to give it softness and round off some of the edges. It's good that it's there as the vetiver might have made it a little too sharp.

I know the seasonal gauge at the top says this isn't fit for winter, but that depends on where you live. I think this could be worn just about any time in just about any weather except for extreme cold or extreme heat. But my favorite time to wear this would be on a sunny, but cool & slightly breezy spring day.

Test it out, check for yourself.

Wonderful juice and wonderful bottle!

A refreshing summer fragrance. The juice is a beautiful and cooling blend of mint and vetiver. Somehow I feel there is eucalyptus and lavender too in here hidden. Lasts a full day close to 8-10 hours and you may get an occasional balmy whiff surprisingly after that too. I see that people have asked about this fragrance when I wear it. It is unique as compared to other summer classics for men. I love it.

@Houdini4, I wonder if you didn't make a mistake! Did you try Roadster or Roadster sport, which is very different? The first roadster is far better, a modern fougère, minty, woody and vanillic. In this one, bergamot note is very weak...
You can pass on the second one, an unoriginal and bad flanker.

No doubt I was attracted to this juice by the bottle...I know I'm stating the obvious here because it's called roadster but it's seriously weird looking like a turbine or an engine or something. Yeah so I've just sampled it and I have a severe cold so my judgement maybe seriously impaired, however I got a very watery, cucumber type opening with metallic notes and citrus. The bergamot and labdanum are refreshing and to me create an almost melon smell not dissimilar to something like Kenneth Cole Reaction. I was surprised to be honest that cardamom was not listed on here as it seems a little spiced. The earthy woodiness coming from the vetiver with the citrus again giving a kind of classic male effect think L'eau d boisee or terre d'Hermes. This is one of the nicer juices from Cartier and probably because it's boring and in safer territory than declaration for example. I like the fact that they had a brave approach to male designer fragrance even if I deemed them unwearable on a personal level.
This is pleasant and wearable but as such just a little ordinary.

ok. Let me start by saying the first time I smelled this I fell in love. it's a unique frag that really has it's own identity and would really please everyone around you. however I'm not sure if it really projects that well. it's a soft frag and you really can't overspray it. it fades on me to a skin scent within the first hour or two. but it last for hours and hours and hours on my skin. wish it had better projection, especially considering its high price tag. but it really is something special. I recommend trying it out at least. def. could be a signature scent. ages 25+

When first sprayed, I get as much bergamot as I do mint. It's a lot like a sparkling summer cocktail. The bergamot fades a bit and the silky, soapy vetiver comes up (which is my favorite part of the fragrance). The mint stays dry, the vanilla provides a slight, damp sweetness. Very well balanced. I get at least a work day out of the longevity and people definitely notice it. The bottle alone is worth purchasing if you're a collector. Well done.

I am a little mind-boggled with this fragrance. I do not know if I like it or not. The opening is minty and fresh, which I happen to like. However, the middle and base notes are a little off-putting. It's very, and I mean very spicy when it dries down which is probably what upsets me. Not a bad fragrance by any means, though it does seem a little 'off' to me. Also, if I happen to love this in the near future, do you guys think that I would be able to pull it off in high school or university? Feel free to drop me a message! Thanks.

I like this a lot. I feel like it should be an Eau des Merveilles flanker. The Eau Fraiche. You have that same pungent resinous scent from the Labdanum lightened by the vetiver and mint. I find the mint dies down quickly. A solid, beautiful scent, unique for the designer market, but not overall.

This fragrance works just like a fizzy drink: it is, in my opinion, a bit sweet on the top, but it is supported by vetiver, labdanum and patchouli. These three gracious birds make up its body. It does have a slight toothpaste vibe, but it is much more bitter due to the vetiver aroma. I admit it, I don't like vetiver, but this is a great and UNDERRATED fragrance.

Notes: The bergamot or whatever it is in conjunction with the mint make up its kick (like phosphoric acid). Mint + labdanum + patchouli is what some claim = toothpaste. Vanilla makes the cake, or say, the sugar/e-xxx content. I admit, if vetiver would be substituted with say cedar or another wood, I would rate this higher.

No grandpa smell.

Yes, vanilla mint. That's what I get on the paper strip and on my wrist. I like this stuff! A good candidate for a summer scent. I want some in a little sample bottle to try wearing all day...

Cartier Roadster presents a very simple composition but it is a very classy one, as in less is defenetly more kind of approach. It is odd but I don't get much of the mint some say is very strong. For me it is very dorment natural mint which is overpowered by labdanum and vetiver. Vanilla makes it a bit talc-y. But yet again, it is a fragrance that one wears to pretend he is not wearing anything at all, it smells of clean and gromned body, a male body. He is so clean that he is about to put something on, let's say some Declaration, but decides to go without it. Roadster are among those kind of scents that are the equivalent of the "natural" make up some women do just to look natural, but that was achieved by applying some cosmetics though... I will keep wearing it, I kept it for more than 6 months unopened, and say I am not wearing snything whatsoever.

I truly enjoy the minty opening. It's exactly what I wished for, but the dry down... although somewhat sweet with a nice vanilla mixed in... seems to lose the mint accord. Perhaps it's just my nose becoming numb to the mint. Since I've read that mint is an elusive scent to capture, I don't know. Overall, it is a great fragrance that I'm glad to own and feel comfortable wearing. It's a valued addition to my rather hum-drum small collection. BTW, I am beyond my twenties.

Roadster is not a safe blind buy. It's a very good mature fragrance, I don't see youngsters using this at all, 30 and up. This opens with a nice minty note, very pleasant but then it turns to something that is just not for me. Smells like a very mature minty oldy. Amazing looking bottle, yes but the juice is even more amazing and original! First-class ingredients that blend perfectly for an all-season, extremely versatile option. Every stage from top to bottom is so damn enjoyable! This is a MASTERPIECE and my signature fragrance!

Those that say its just simply a mint-only frag have either not physically worn it on their skin for any length of time or are merely "attempting" to address the opening! It's the Dry-down that brings in the true magic of Roadster with a perfect balance of almost smokiness mint and vanilla.

Projection is moderate, unique, yet non-offensive.
Scent lasts easily for 8-10+ hours on my skin! (4 sprays-2 on neck, 1 on each arm.)

This is my first review. I bought Declaration at a high price and this was a 'gift'. I think some people don't like the labdanum note in this one. I find it very complex myself. Reminds me of Givenchy pour Homme, but it gives me a headache. Roadster doesn't, I find it more balanced, and as it start drying down, it goes very elegant. Mint and Vanilla notes are in the right place not to be too present, but make a great work with all other notes. You have to try this one with calm, wait for its charm to emerge.
(Hope my english is good enough)

The mint and labdanoum are insane in this frag. Not for a new players, i say that because in the first time a I think - it's so old-fashion, ow I'm noobie. But i've tried several times and try to understand the powerfull of this frag, and still trying hahaha. The drydown it's absolutely awesome, good longevity and projection, the fragance stay seeking you (in my opinion) around 8 hours. About the longevity and projection here are a mistery, because you find people who said this frag disappear in 2 hours, and others say about 10h. I think Roadster Cartier is a roullete game. Feel confident and chic with this frag or you look like an old lady.

A frag which is good and then bad, which lasts a long time on the skin and the chic-mint top notes are too die for..

I applied 6 heavy sprays

0-2 Hours -1 foot projection. Chic, classy mint with a posh masculine grey-vanilla twist... Hmmm, superb, mid-mature, ages 34-44. Brilliant and moorish, love it on me!

2 hours - 4 Hours - 4 inch projection. The minty vanilla combo goes and what feels like a mature spicy imitiation of what has gone before is left. Its a bit too smoky and lifeless and its more mature. Ages 44-60

4 hours - 6 hours - 2.5 inch projection. Gone stale

6 hours - 8 hours - 1 inch projection

8 hours -10 hours. Close to skin

A mesmering start which I will never forget

Roaster is an elegant fresh perfume - not a typical sporty "cool" EDT to be expected from this Cartier's creation and thank God for that!

Indeed, it is a wonderful herbal mint, almost medicinal, but in a good way - making you feel as if you were actually drinking the wholesome mint infusion that got cooled and was diluted by the addition of some ice cubes. Great refreshment for a start, but there's much more to Roadster than just mint - soon the earthy vetiver and warm patchouli chime in together with a little sweetness from vanilla and somewhat oily creaminess of labdanum, which creates an impression of the filling you can find in After Eight thin chocolate mints. This sensation, almost bordering on gourmandish, is one of the best moments in the scent's life on my skin.
What is more, the notes of patchouli-vanilla-vetiver-labdanum seem to dance interchangeably and reveal their facets, always in the background of the reigning mint in all the stages.

Although it could easily function as unisex (nice option for a summer scent for women who are looking for a refreshing change), I think I would enjoy it more on men's and not on my own skin, also because I get tired of the mint note in the long run. Still, if you favor mint, do try this out even if you're a woman - it is totally worth it.

Excellent longevity for a Cartier's scent for men(Must PH, Must Essence PH and Santos, even though preferred, do not last as long on me unfortunately) and delicate projection make Roadster a great office all-year or casual spring/summer scent.

Good job, Cartier!

I really want to review this one, because I think it is truly, beyond any shadow of a doubt, an amazing fragrance, a modern marvel that I wish to never live without, however I'm going to give it even more time. This is not a review I intend to take lightly. If you are reading this and wondering, "well, should I buy it?" the answer is yes, unless, for whatever reason, you despise mint. Mint, however, is only the visible tip of the colossal, complex, and abyssal, " iceberg" that forms this entire fragrance. There is so much more at play here than merely... mint! Yes, if you like mint, you will love this. If you appreciate niche-quality designer fragrances, totally unique scents, and/or modern masterpieces of perfumery, you will also love this. I happen to fall into both groups. My review, forthcoming...

Cartier Roadster starts with burst of herbal mint. It is not fresh but rather dark and might repulse many. After hour or so scent changes to comfortable woody herbal vanilla (which is major player) that has very nice balance of notes. It is masculine but modern, elegant and versatile. Not overly sweet like 1 million for example. I like it lot (especially drydown) Longevity and sillage are average (6-10 hours).

Overall 7/10 from me.

Vetiver? Sure, a little. Vanilla? Ok, I suppose there is a little of that there too. Otherwise this is MINT! Mint covered in mint, wrapped in a blanket of mint.

I guess if you like mint, look no further. This isn't a cheap toothpaste mint - it is certainly more refined than that. But for me, I start to feel nauseous after 20 minutes of this. Maybe this as a candle or a car freshner would work, but it is way to much mint for me - and I can't get away from it when I spray it on me!.

If you love mint, this might work great - but I will pass.

It's the best mint in the market from a designer house.
It's herbal mint and it's so much cooling. It's great in cooler days. Avoid in humid days. It can be a classy and modern signature scent for all year around. Thumbs up from me. A must have in your wardrobe.

A masterpiece.
A unique fragrance for spring and fall but definitely you can wear it all year round.
The opening is strong and a little harsh mint note mixed with some vetiver and only hint of sweetness. the mint here isn't fresh and cooling, it's peppery and leafy, like mint leafs.
In the dry down the mint is still there, strong with hint of floral notes and a little more sweetness from vanilla.
The mint note make this fragrance different from so many fragrances out there and dominate through the whole fragrance life. other notes are in the background, but they're playing their role very well. so if you don't like mint, don't go for it.
Some guys say smell like tooth paste but I'm not agree with them at all!
As I said it's very unique, pleasant, elegant with great quality.
The projection is incredible and longevity is great.
One of my personal favorites.

Cartier ROADSTER seems every bit as unisex to me as the Hermès Jardin series, and also very similar in spirit. The opening mint herbaceousness is really nice, and if I had tried this fragrance at a counter, I might have acquired a bottle on the spot.

After a few minutes, however, the minty herbs clear out, ceding to an Ellena-esque cedarish-vetiver drydown. This stage lasts forever--or so it seems, phenomenologically speaking. At this point, I am very much reminded of the drydown of UN JARDIN APRES LA MOUSSON, which I also find somewhat tiresome after only a short period of time.

In the end, although I am entirely convinced that ROADSTER is a unisex creation, it is not for me.

I could not believe when I smelled this perfume. Finally a perfume that has menthol as a top note. I was really amazed by this magnificent composition.
This scent is perfect from start to finish. It begins with much menthol, which is spectacular, and ends with some notes highly masculine.
Nothing in this scent is floral or sweet.
It is a scent of man, made for real men.
The bottle is absolutely spectacular, rugged, heavy....as it should be a masculine scent.
I am really delighted with this fragrance.
I want it....now....
Highly recommended.

Finaly, I can say that all men fragrances by Cartier are excellent. They are really masculine fragrances without floral and sweet aromas. More brands should follow the example of Cartier, creating perfumes 100% male.

Congratulations Cartier, can be proud of your work.

Very strong fragrance! Starts very sharp with the mint and vetiver. Then comes the vanilla in the drydown.

I don't like the mix of mint and vetiver. Don't know, just smells strange to my nose.

Peolpe use to say this a love or hate scent
actually I'd say I neither love or hate, but I like it

This frangrance is a very strong and intense smell. Duality between mint and vanilla.

At first moment mint and vetiver are stronger and make it fresher and woodier, then the vanilla and labdanum kick in and make it sweetened (this part is a little bit sickening in my opinion).
The olfactory components here are very raw, rustic and dirty.
I get a lot of incense here, a very mature perfume.
This is a man's not a boy's
longevity and projection are awesome...

It is nothing path breaking in the fragrance family that it sits.

For a typical indian nose accustomed to lots of spices, I smell turmeric turmeric and more of turmeric from start to dry down.

The mint is faintly felt in the hot & humid weather. However the spiciness does have similiarities to the D&G classic EDT for men.

I really love this fragrance, I think it's precious. I adore the opening, can't get enough of it :)

However, I have a disappointing memory wearing it. I once wore it at a party and my friends started to tell me that I smell good but I smell like a soft cake like muffin... Uhhhh, I never wanted to smell like muffin at a party or anywhere :(
It is maybe because of the vanilla in the dry down, vanilla-mint-vetyver combination. Who knows?

Anyway, I want to be irresistible in a different way than a muffin is :D

The perfect scent. Warm enough for cooler weather and refreshing enough for summer. Green mint at the top, sweetens us and picks up some vanilla as it dries down. Nice comment,i think someone at cartier has one hell of a kink too,but not because toothphaste, unlike the comment described, the mint smell is noble, and i love it.

What an amazing fragrance!

I have a bottle of Roadster since Dec. 2010 and I can tell from my experience that this is totally appropriate to wear during all seasons.

Lately I put it when I went to an open air theatre with temperatures around 30C - we currently have a heatwave in Greece - and my female friend just loved it on me. Next morning the smell of Roadster was still on my skin, so that counts for at least 10 hours of longevity!

Now, I know that many people have described this scent as overwelmingly minty and I have to tell you that I just hate very sharp mint scents, so how come and I love this one? It's because this exceptional mint version has a much more rounded and warm character, quite different from the typical sharp and offensive mint scent you get from so many other fragrances: I could call it "Noble Mint"!
What amazes me the most is how masterly this noble mint note blends with the sweeter notes of vanilla and bergamot, perfect balance and harmony!

The quality material used for the bottle of Roadster and its wonderful design complement the sense of high quality that you get from the fragrance.
It's a great design that surprises you with a "twist":
You need to twist the "screw-down crown" style cap - a symbol of those prestigious Cartier watches - to reveal the nozzle and spray yourself... to heaven!

So if Cartier wanted to create a high quality versatile and sophisticated fragrance in an affordable price, they just managed it perfectly!

My rating: 9/10

In his (and Sanchez') "guide" book, Luca Turin gave this what one might call a "meh review." He did acknowledge that it's not easy to get the mint note right, because it usually smells like tooth paste or mouth wash (or something along those lines). I agree, which is why I don't understand his assessment. This is a very nice herbal mint. Strong patchouli, labdanum, vetiver, or vanilla often ruin fragrances for me, but here the perfumer did a great job of getting the notes just right. Does it have the greatest dynamism of all time? No, but it's adequate. Do the ingredients seem to be niche quality? No, but neither do they distract in any way (in other words, they're fine).

So what do we have here, in terms of accomplishment, if anything? Mint is "fresh," but usually smells too medicinal or synthetic. Roadsters solves that. Herbal dominant fragrances tend to be rather harsh. Roadster solves that. Vanilla is difficult in fragrances that people want to wear in warm weather (as is patchouli). Roadster solves that. Traditional "colognes," while "fresh," tend to have bad longevity. Roadster solves that. Fougeres are very common, so few want to smell another one. Roadster solves that (emphasizing mint rather than lavender). Some critics tend to emphasize innovation over technical achievement, and I think LT is in this category. Roadster does both, but the result lacks the "wow factor," apparently, for people like LT. I, by contrast, am more interested in fragrances that are enjoyable/pleasant for many hours, and Roadster succeeds here.

At first, Roadster is a bit schizophrenic, but that doesn't last long (perhaps half an hour, and you might like it). Then you can look forward to several hours of a great balance among the dominant notes. The vetiver provides just enough structure and keeps the patchouli/labdanum from becoming too heavy. If you are seeking Secretions Magnifiques, this is not for you. If you want a twenty-first century heir to fragrances like Missoni Uomo (without paying niche prices), this may be something you should sample. Longevity and projection/"sillage" are very good, though not monstrous, and with my skin chemistry, the dry, herbaceous mint persists for a very long time, which is exactly what I want. If your skin chemistry really soaks up fragrances, however, you might have a very different experience than mine.

UPDATE: Over time, this takes on a different character. Traditional fougeres usually have oakmoss in the base, geranium in the middles notes, and a spice note (even if it's mild). Instead, Roadster becomes more like L'Instant Pour Homme EdT over time, up to the point where L'Instant goes into a rather boring, musky base. Roadster holds this pre-base L'Instant quality for at least four hours more. You may be seeking something else, but it's almost like they made this fragrance especially for my tastes !

I love it: a modern "fougère" whith the first minty note, a very fresh one and not to compare to any bubble gum. Then Roadster becomes warmer with patchouli, labdanum and vanilla. Transition between those different notes is successful; finally I think this is a very nice and distinctive scent, when you want to dissociate yourself from the crowd, whith elegance : Cartier.

Roadster is not really my cup of tea. The combination of mint, vanilla, and patchouli is very interesting and different from the norm. The first blast is a No-No! because it's just too herbal and minty. Then it gets sweet (sweetened by vanilla) and becomes more like a vanilla mint chewing gum or toothpaste. Then patchouli and vanilla combo really gets me to like the scent but still not enough to convince me to make a purchase. Even though Cartier Roadster is not a bad scent, but I find the smooth and minty patchouli in this to be too difficult for me to wear on a regular basis.

Roadster has the best mint opening I've experienced compared to any other fragrance. It is fresh and natural with a bit of a mint chocolate chip ice-cream vibe (minus the chocolate). It smells fantastic and gets the fragrance off to a great start.

As Roadster begins to dry down, the mint mellows out and a sweet, slightly soft vanilla emerges with a woody combination where you can detect patchouli and vetiver. However, on me, sometimes there is an off-putting mineralic element present in this stage that I do not like. It does not compliment the vanilla well, and tends to overwhelm the woods. This persists for about half an hour, after which the mineralic element disappears.

The final stage of the dry down is very nice. The vanilla-mint combination merges smoothly with the soft woods and creates a unique and pleasant scent. This persists for several hours. I'd like to stress that the vanilla is done very well in Roadster. While sweet, it never becomes 'sugary' or saccharine. It kind of smells like a vanilla milk shake.

Projection is better than average, as is the longevity. In fact, Roadster is a fragrance that tends to heat up, and actually gets a little stronger an hour or two into its development.

IMO, it's a fairly versatile scent that can be worn in any season. Furthermore, there is nothing on the market that smells like it.

All in all, it's great modern fragrance (with an awesome bottle) and I highly recommend it.

Roadster, is an intense: it is a palette of colors that seem to come alive in a border area, where the city begins and ends the campaign: As the leaves fall from the plants you feel the passage of fast and luxurious cars, the late summer and early fall in this period that the mint is perceived more and vetiver to do a background ... magical and unique.

I know Roadster has had a few bad reviews, but in my opinion, this fragrance is very charming and sexy in a refreshing and clean sense. It can be worn in pretty much every season because it has this beautiful warmth and chilly freshness, that is absolutely captivating to my nose.

Roadster opens with green, zesty bergamot and a hint of crushed mint. It smells very Summery at first, but it soon develops into a warmer blend of earthy patchouli, aromatic herbs, dry vetiver and vanilla. It has an almost creamy quality, like the scent of a masculine moisturiser.

It's beautifully inoffensive and wonderfully soothing. I find it very compelling, and I'll be honest and say that I would be very aroused if I came across a man that tried to seduce me by wearing this. It's almost delicious and foody in a way too, which is probably partly due to the creamy vanilla accord.

I really admire the house of Cartier. They make some very classy, unique and memorable fragrances for men that I can't help loving. It reminds me a little bit of Emporio Armani White for Men and Kenzo Power, as it has that familiar clean yet seductive feel.

The longevity is extraordinarily good, as is the sillage which is mostly intimate, but occasionally leaves a trail. I love this fragrance's smoothness and simplicity, and for that alone I recommend Roadster to anyone, women included.

There's so much to say about Roadster... First of all, I love it. If I didn't already have a signature scent, this would be the one.

About the mint note: it's not toothpaste/bubblegum/candy. It's mint leaves. Not spearmint, but peppermint. Peppermint has more leafiness than spearmint. (If you'd like some spearmint, go for L'Eau par Kenzo). In this scent, the mint note is evident at first burst and will linger on the background during a long time.
Ok, so then Roadster gives us a talc-ey accord (think barbershop - I love it!), with patchouli and mineralic nuances, and the leafy mint still lingering around. Wanna know what it's not? It's not a fresh scent, no, actually it's very woody, at least to my nose.

I spray by the morning and when it's 8pm it's still there. During my first times wearing Roadster, I didn't realise it, because this is one of the scents that trigger my olfatory fatigue the most! (the other being Aramis, which I also tag "barbershop").

Also, when I apply it at night, it smells stronger and bolder than when I apply by the morning. And this is simply weird. Anyway, I couldn't care less about it, because Roadster is very pleasant and it never got overwhelming on my skin. Have in mind that I never overapplied it. My rule is the less the better, so if a spray comes short, I'll take it instead of spraying one more time.

So, briefly, it's not loud but it lasts.

Another topic to consider is the overall quality of the scent, especially knowing as you know that Roadster isn't a cheap bottle. The blend is masterful, I see no sharp edges, no imbalance. The ingredients used here are of very good quality. I'm not an expert, so I can't say there are no synthetic ingredients, but I don't smell anything synthetic here.

DON'T buy it if you're after a fresh scent. Totally DO buy it if you like barbershop smells. Other than that, for the quality it has, and all its versatility, it's safe to blind-buy.
I wouldn't do that, though, because it's a bit expensive, and we have to take the most out of our hard-earned money. So I tested Roadster, and it made me wow so much that I had no choice but to buy it.

EDIT:
Oh, the bottle!

Released at exactly the same time, Roadster is almost definite reminiscent to Tous in Heaven, although, Roadster is of a more mature and professional nature.

The nozzle smelt peppery. Nice.

The first spray in my hand was mintier than toothpaste. Even nicer.

Beginning the drydown, the mint calms, the patchouli and bergamot become very evident.
Fresh, cool, elegant, masculine, proud, domineering.
Even with evident bergamot, Roadster doesnt rely on citrus and aquatic notes for freshness, proof that any scent with patchouli doesn't need to be any fresher.

I recommend you try Tous in Heaven and see which you prefer.

Roadster cologne that has a pleasant smell and the bottle is very interesting.
I've tested nearly 500 cologne, but few of them had a nice smell and a beautiful glass ... Roadster has both.
Few people know that the Roadster solely have bought beautiful glass! Is very suitable for gift giving (the price is reasonable).
The beginning such as eucalyptus makes human nose is open, but some do not like the smell of the beginning and believe that toothpaste can smell!
I do not agree at all with these words and I think the best part is the beginning.
You can be sure that this perfume is suitable for all seasons.

I am looking for a signature spring scent, something that doesn't smell like I just spritzed lemon all over myself. Well, I found a fragrance that smells like I bypassed the lemon for mint. Really, that is all I smell: mint, mint and more mint. I doesn't even smell like it is a cologne that is inspired by mint...it just smells like mint gum, and thats it! I want to love this cologne but it is horrible unless you really like mint, or really love the bottle.

It smells like an Aston Martin, covered in toothpaste, cruising down a hospital corridor. Someone at Cartier has one hell of a kink.

Quality ****
Versatility *****
Durability ****
Sillage ***
Top ****
Heart *****
Base **
Final score ****

Jack of almost all trades and master of many of them.

The good
Superbly versatile, it can fit in many situations except very formal ones. Seasons aren't a problem either. I can see women wearing this too, as it's tame and well-rounded enough.
High quality ingredients make it smell classy compared to most non-niche scents. Clean and fresh enough to please most ages too. The sweet accord is great to the point of being addictive.
Average sillage, durability can be quite good when layered on itself. The bottle is cool and after the juice is used up I'm certainly keeping it as living room decoration.
Fairly uncommon and I doubt one will find many people using it as their casual scent.
Distinctive, if one pays attention, not many common scents are really like this one. Most fresh ones are marine, or lingering with citrus.
Not bad at all as one's signature fresh scent.

The bad
Perfumistas might be able to tell which note is synthetic and complain about development, balance, and the minty notes. On how recent scents are boring etc.
It does lack oomph. On a fast glance, similar to the many fresh offerings. When I smell it I think expensive, clean and not much else.

The ugly
It fatigates the nose very fast. Proper sillage test shows it's average and it's there. But what's fun if we can't get it?

Follow up after a couple months: now I agree the drydown is more than boring, it's bothering, weird, it smells like ink, or dust. Cashmeran? It smells slightly synthetic and cloying.
Durability and sillage are kinda poor now but I'm probably getting used to it.
Ratings changed accordingly.

Checked it about two weeks ago on a paper and I was not impressed. Yesterday afternoon I checked it again on my wrist. After 12 hours, it is still smelling. Beyond that, it is a very nice fragrance, manly, elegant, classy and unique. Will buy this today

Fragrance too strong. It has a very exaggerated vetiver scent with mint. I left all day with a headache. It is sophisticated but very irritating to my nose.

The nature of this scent is accelerated, relating to the aerodynamics of the bottle. It drifts through its stages rather quickly, and doesn't wait to get to the point. Think of chewing Spearmint gum in 30 degree weather, as you see your every breath in the chilled air. Refreshing from every direction. For me, that's Cartier Roadster.

The most I can say about Roadster is that it's pleasant. That's about it - it really does not make an impression. It baisically smells like any other fresh fougere lining the men's fragrance counters. It's too boring to even describe - a citrusy-woodsy aromatic suitable for hot days, clean pressed clothes, and young gentlemen. I was initially curious about Roadster for the unusual listed mint note, but I didn't pick up any mint at all. I found it generic through and through.

Roadster is redeemable, however, for the quality of the ingredients. They smell very authentic and smooth, and the lasting power is great. I especially like the authenticity of the labdanum. It smells even better than the labdanum in Givenchy Pour Homme (the generic fresh men's fragrance I currently use), so when that runs out I might consider replacing it with Roadster. If I find that generic smell to be worth replacing at all.

Roadster is quite unoffensive and nice for someone new to fragrance and looking for a pretty pick-me-up. But a man wearing Roadster will be pleasant, at the most. A man wearing Declaration will be intriguing and memorable.

Tested at the store and immediately loved it! One of cartier's best product for men. I wonder what the sport and black smells like. If black represent the forte edition then it's worth the money though a little dearer than others with similar notes. This one deserves 9/10.

The Vegas heat is killing my longevity. Just purchased it and will place on the shelf until it cools down in October. Overall, M I N T Y ! The patchouli is making it last and I am not mad. This is classy and linear. Curious to see how it will work in 70 and below heat?

Absolutely love Roadster! Very versatile in my opinion. Can be worn all season, but I wouldn't attempt on a very hot day. Scenturian's review on this is spot on! This smells expensive and classy. One spray on the neck, one on the chest and you're good.

I dont agree that it is minty all the time and very green! Seems people judging by only the top notes.
Yes it starts with mint and bergamot. Top notes almost go back within 10 minutes, and mid comes in with very woody notes, but those woody notes r absolutely the smell of the wet woods, mid notes some kinda remind me Gucci Envy PH mid-notes, there is also a barbersoap accord which reminds me Prada Amber PH, vetiver and labdanum cause this aroma I think. This stuff has feminine face too, I think can be worn by women as well.
When I smell directly from my wrist smells very feminine. But the aura created around you is so delicious, very soapy, woody, and hot. I cant get the vanilla note easily, maybe it is so subtle.
It is really very potent! 2 spray is enough. And the longevity is gr8 too.

Went and bought my lady Panthere and was gifted samples for my efforts (mother mary, they do go in for the kill when they smell a commision!). Was not impressed with Roadster Sport but... this Roadster is pretty nice. Spring with a Summer fling throw in. The mint gets you revved up but quickly gets into scond gear with the the bergamont and vanilla but just as quicly the wood shows up! Got some cedar in there with which keeps it on the masculine side (unisex maybe, but I prefer my lady to stay away). This one stays with you for the ride. All day and all of the night! Go for it. Class wins it.

Oh great what a fresh and energetic scent and at the same time calm and exotic. It starts with fresh grassy notes then rapidly evolves into woody/minty notes which stays for a long while then it dries down into fresh/woody fragrance that lasts. Very nice and heavy bottle too.
I give it 8 out of 10.

it should take time for Cartier to come up with this masterpiece. I really like the mint in the top notes and the vanilla and amber in the basenotes, buy the vanilla here is delicious and soft, like any other vanilla i have ever smelt...

Sorry to disagree with some of you, but to me this is a too plain interpretation of mint. All I perceive is candied mint, the one which is used in a sort of candies which in my country are called "Mentosan" or, even worse, Aquafresh might smell more interesting than this one on me. I know sophistication is based also on minimalism, but still a certain amount of complexity is needed in designing a high quality cologne. The bottle is very promising though. And by the way, where is the vanilla?

I smelled this one thinking it's a fragrance for women.then I saw it's a male cologne.by the way I should say that it's better to call it a unisex perfume.I mean it's not that sharp like most of male perfumes.it has the same color as eau de cartier and the smelling is just in the same category.so this one could be unisex like eau de cartier too.
going back to the notes...at the first sniff is just green and green and too green!I can see the reason just by looking at the notes here.
as the time passes it becomes warmer and more woodsy and there's something in it that reminds me "eau des merveilles".
it's a good choice for guys who don't like too sharp fragrances and just want to smell good and sportive."fougere" is my favorite category in male colognes and I think it's a good fougere one.

I am a vivid collector - but last night by chance I liked the bottle's shape so out of my curiosity I tried it - I had no intentions of buying any fragrance, went to the shop just to kill my time. But I couldn't resist myself & trust me, you'll never regret it! It is one of the best perfumes that you'll ever come across - powerful, mild - I dont know about others, but it reminds of smoking some fine montecristo leathered cigar atleast on the initial notes.

If you like fougere fragrances, this is one of the best options out there. Very high quality composition. Does not nausate or overpower ever.
Suitable for any occasion, can be worn with any outfit. Lasts all day.
Once the labdanum and bergamot stage is over, you get a wonderful vanilla/mint/patchouli/vetiver combination that gives a terrific sweet vegetal smell.

This fragrance was just launched at Bloomingdales and Cartier Boutiques. I was walking through Bloomingdales and was lucky to come across the display for this fragrance. I was already wearing Santos by Cartier. So, the only place I was able to place this amazing scent was on the back of my hand, between my thumb and pointing finger.

My first impression: It was like having a window open during the Spring with a undistinctive soft floral scent coming in.

I had forgot about it for a little bit then I was handing a file to a co-worker then I caught a light scent of patchouli.

After two hours it warmed up very nicely, the vanilla, mint and vetiver became noticeable. It gave me a craving for a Cream Soda Float with a sprig of mint on top.

This is a fragrance I will be adding to my collection. It about time (several decades)Cartier came out with a new men's scent. But of course, I would recommend this scent for both men and women.
