Great strong fragrance.
Best if used on cooler days or nighttime.
Very manly.
Longevity and sillage are both above average.
Best of Chanel for men.
This stuff makes my eyes watery and induces a head ache. That pretty much sums it up.
hi all there is two perfume i assume they try to copy this one and they are
37 bleu karen low
sth called stamino bleu
Info from the manufacturer says it is "a provocative blend of citrus and woods". It is surely provocative and I would say pretty unfortunate. When I read about this supposedly "woody" and "aromatic" fragrance, it got me interested but then, disappointed.
I smell a hint of mint and a lot of ginger and pink pepper in this fragrance. Woody notes are there, but for me a woody fragrance needs to be more balmy and warm, rather than spicy and fruity.
I do not really like this fragrance. It might work for some men, it is definetely original, but for me it is a "no".
Realy like this one and received compliments every time i wear it. I think it can be wear every where every time. Great job!
The point for this cologne is to wear it in warm weather, it really brings out the quiality of the ingerdients. If you try to pull this off in the winter or cold temps you will find it really sharp citrus smell that will get offensive and give you a headache! But in warmer weather this is a BEAST!!!!!!
I had small tester of this spray on my wrist and neck, the smell is okie , but not impressive to me smel like cheap soapy. i mean who want to smell like cheap right
I can understand why everybody seem to like this because of how popular is it, however I think you get can alot better scent then this one. I have only used allure homme sport chanel this one is best chanel house i have own. bleu is huge let down for me at least there is so many better scent out there for us guy!
U will love ysl l'homme libre that is much more interesting then bleu one/
Bleu is the shizznitz like this better than allure sport silver bottle and my girl loves it this is a scent for any age the citrus in it is great it lasts about 9 to 10 hours on me i use the after shave balm and shower gel with it its the best mens fragrance from the chanel line it doesn't smell like old man cologne not too spicy or woody or too sweet its just right its manly meaning it doesn't smell like a woman could wear
I agree TOTALLY with pynkgirl. One very sexy cologne. Got it for my BF...It's something about male spicy citrus scents that just give off sex appeal. Adventure Davidoff, Intimately Beckham, Armani Diamonds...they all give off that sexy, spicy citrus. But this is Gorgeous!!
I went back and forth between this frag and Chanel Allure Pour Homme. (Glad that the local retailer would allow and exchange.)
I like this scent as a choice during summer - I'm just not sure it is for me. It is bright and bold with an aquatic feel to it. I don't have a lot of frags in that genre, so I don't have a lot to base it on. It reminded me of a spicier version of Curve Appeal. (I got rid of that one, so this is just a comparison to memory - not exact note for note.) It was also spicier and not as sweet or smooth as Ed Harley L&L.
Two sprays at 6am when getting ready for work on torso and I started to lose the scent at about 2-3pm. Decent longevity and not unpleasant. I just perferred the Allure so this one went back. I may go back at a later time for this one. We still aren't into the full swing of summer yet.
Like the reviewer below, chiara.candaele, as a woman, I totally love this and would buy it! I think it's a tad bit masculine , but who cares! It smells divine and hot! And of course any man wearing this, i will be in his arms! LOL!
I'm sort of sitting on the fence about Bleu De Chanel. I actually think that this one is unique from top to middle, but the dry down leaves a little to be desired. I won't say generic, but the flirtations are there. Upon first initial blast, I got a dusty library book that's been sitting in an incense filled room by the ocean on a dark and stormy night. Intriguing to say the least for a blue scent. Bleu's opening sort of reminds me of the smell of those old Alfred Hitchcock short story/compilation ghost novels you checked out when you were a kid. You remember...the ones with the creepy cover to cover art?
Enter the dry down. A little bland and powdery/balmy to be honest. Bleu reminds me of a 12 rounder with George Foreman in his early 90's comeback. The first 6 rounds are powerful and respectful but the last 6 lack the steam and endurance to finish the job. However if you want to look past Bleu's final phase, then you may a have nice signature scent here, and I personally think the opening to middle is just unique enough to be worth the price of admission.
I'd call this fragrance is a year round scent, just be a little cautious in the summer on the trigger. Although very clean, Bleu is a little spicy and can get heavy if you wear too much. Don't let the name fool you. It's about the heaviest blue scent you can wear while still being deemed a blue aquatic.
Huh? what's the deal with this cologne? Did I receive a faulty rendition? I don't understand why anyone would write a positive review of this scent. Nothingness, blank, withdrawn and the accurate adjectives of this Chanel product. A shame.
I will start by saying that one of if not my favourite men's perfume is platinum egoiste. In my eyes bleu is like the little brother of PE. I find myself getting teased as it evolves, over the first 3-4 hours it keeps feeling like it is going to dry down to a nice woodiness similar to PE but it doesn't and by no means is that a negative comment because bleu just maintains a nice fruity sort of fresh citrus smell with always the bit of vetiver and wood playing up in the background just enough to keep a real masculinity about it. I really like it, a good addition to the chanel line, it does have a few characteristics aimed at the new age mainstream but no one can doubt its quality, and as chanel do with all their perfumes they just have a way to make it stand alone from others. Take your pick, allure, allure sport, platinum egoiste or bleu, every one of them are absolute magic.
As mentioned below this is a nice aquatic type fragrance which does not justify the preference of all users....it is ok but nothing ground breaking to be amoung the most desired perfumes nowadays...never understood the market....maybe because is chanel? if that was something else, it would be here?
Wind proof. Water proof. Oily fragrance. Not much synthetics. 1 base fragrance. Moderately unique. Not cloying. You can still smell everything even if you're wet outside in the rain playing sports. It has natural oil extracts and smoke oil. It sticks all day and the next day with no ugly transformation. This fragrance is not for everyone though. Many have bought a bottle and only later they found out that the scent doesn't really suit them. Guys who don't own a single bottle of fragrance are going to be thrilled by this, because this is a level-A fragrance. Chanel have good blend components. Not meant to be over-sprayed. This will turn musty to some skin.
Congratulations Chanel. You have dodged all the bullets.
BdC has been getting some mixed reviews, and it tends to be towards the dislike/disappointment side. I actually really really like this fragrance and honestly so do the ladies, it might as well be catnip. It has everything I am looking for, excellent longevity, compliment getter, and reasonable sillage. I think people were expecting something more from Chanel, and due to such a long gap in their men's fragrance line before BdC, it was over hyped with expectations that it was never really given the chance. It does have more of a generic taste to it and I do believe that was one of the intentions of Chanel to compete in today's market. This fragrance has incredible versatility and can be wore for any occasion, during any season. Very easily signature scent worthy. It starts off very pungent with the citrus/ginger with the smoky woods lingering in the background. It dries down to a wonderful base IMO. I very much like BdC and love it for what it is. It is not groundbreaking but Chanel realized what is popular in today's fragrance market and at least did it right, because its blended so incredibly well. IMO BdC is like falling in love. At first you like it and you continue to be intrigued but the more you spend time with it and learn its dynamics you begin to adore it.
For me, it's just too overpowering and powdery. I sprayed on very little and then four hours later my son wanted to know who the hell put on a whole bottle of stinking cologne. Use sparingly. Probably also best used in the pubic region.
Great fragrance, it lasts about 8-10 hours on me, with good sillage.. people will noticed you definitely.. compliment getter for sure, ladies love it.. many people complain on it, for poor longevity and sillage, I don't have problems with that :) Great for spring & summer.. day & night... casual occasions & dates... I really love it!
This little beauty was a n excellent purchase. I decided I really wanted a nice, clean safe scent that just exudes a casual boyish manliness. It was between this and Armani code. I chose this because it had a better price tag, and I really think I made a great decision. I have to say I was very surprised how many compliments this gave me. It is classic Chanel; smooth, smart, sparkly and a touch of melancholy nuances. I used to wear loud, exaggerated colognes like A*men (though I do still crack that one out), but now my taste has shifted to cleaner, more versatile frags. I feel like I'm set for life with Bleu, Platinum Egoiste, and Abercrombie Fierce. I might want to wear Antaeus when I'm fifty though.
which one is best and good longevity between dior intense and bleu de Chanel ? please need an honest opinion..!!
A must have , seriously this stuff smells great and there is a good reason why its on the best seller list everytime u have somettin thats a best seller its gonna take some heat. head turner for sure compliments for sure it last 6 to 8 solid hours on me which is amazing very good sillage its gotta be at least a 9 out of 10 now go buy it . be careful as with all chanels i would not buy from ebay or even any place online just go to the mall pay full price and thats it lol
Great fragrance! I saw some people saying that is not a good fragrance but they are wrong (in my opinion)! This is a great perfume! One of my bests!
I got this for my sweetheart and it's a very elegant fragrance. I don't think the advertising of 'be unexpected' really fits this scent, because there's nothing really out of the ordinary or 'unexpected' about it. But I think that is a good thing! This is a clean, sophisticated scent that feels inviting and tangible. There is a fresh, earthy quality that in a way creates a perfect 'masculine' sensibility. Very long lasting and just a spray or two will last you all day. For all the fellows out there, this is a great scent to cozy up with your love! Doesn't smell trashy or 'modern' - this is the Cary Grant of colognes. Refined and strong, with a hint of sparkling dry wit ;)
I agree with they who say it seems ordinary at first. But the more you smell it the more you like it.
For me it's the matter of falling in love with it! Actually I can't resist sniffing myself when I wear this fabulous fresh scent.
In this fragrance I like incense note the most. Ginger note is exactly enough for my nose. And combination of citrus & woody notes makes it one of the most long lasting fresh scents for warm days.
Bottle design is very attractive & magnet cap is a very smart idea.
I hope it was less popular so I could wear a real unique scent.
The smell is purely attractive. With a beautiful navy cover simply amazing! The smell isn't too strong it isn't too light either though it does fade quickly. The only disappointing thing.
I want this fragrance for my husband. It comes off to me as mostly spicy with a hint of citrus and something else I cannot put my finger on. It is sophisticated, subtle and masculine. Long lasting and does not need too much to have the right amount of sillage. I was thinking about getting it for his birthday in December because this is NOT a summer scent.
@TheJurisDoctor There is like this spice in there doesn't match at all and it just throws me off. I like it but don't love it.
@kazewayz maybe the incense and ginger notes? I agree with you, though. I like it and wear it but I don't love it.
I have tried to like it and tried, but there is just something about this that doesn't convince me. Girls like it though, and that's fine with me. But to my nose there is a note in there that doesn't do it for me. A good scent though, deffinetely something you might want to try as it was well done.
As soon as the citrus notes die out, it smells really good on my skin. Girls really enjoy this smell, probably more than you will.
@Nikoleta: fragrantica is not only for english speaking reviewers. respect diversity and get respected. no offense! ;)
Sahm1985 and others please use english language for perfume reviews.
10/10
great opening , but in my skin after 30 minutes a strong blend of ginger and lemon takes over and i mean strong, if you like citruses this one is just ok
Bleu de Chanel is a wonderful fragrance! I couldn't stop sniffing my arm after trying it on at Macy's.
It does remind me of CK Euphoria (both have ginger) but with better sillage.
Great job Chanel for perfecting Sean Jean's I Am King! (I'm not being sarcastic)
It was in summer of 2010 when a Sales Assistant pushed Bleu, and I found it generic, so I walked away. I made a full wearing about a year later, and realized: it is actually an enjoyable scent.
BdC is a quality fragrance: a semi-aquatic scent, well-balanced citrus (not the too zesty type), with an added sweetness. To me, Bleu dries down to a musky vibe. Overall, it is clean and inoffensive, but can be a little loud when oversprayed. A really pleasant fragrance, which makes it perfect for office/work environment.
For a fresh and modern scent, its longevity is above average, and the projection is very good. The dark blue bottle is a simple yet elegant no non-sense design, and the magnetic cap is a nice touch!
Ignoring the negative preconceived notions about Bleu, I gave it a shot. I’m glad it's now in my wardrobe and part of my regular rotation, especially during the warmer season. Chanel does a good job marketing Bleu; and in my opinion, it will become a classic scent in the years to come.
Good fragrance, but really overhyped. It's good if you are not that into fragrances, but if you are into it then it smells generic. It honestly smells like Just Me by Paris Hilton(yes, I'm serious). It is a pleasant smell to most people hence why it is generally liked. The opening has a very strong lemon, but drydown gets better and isn't as intense. It's a great scent for the spring/summer nights. It's worth a try, but I would never spend $80+ for a bottle of it.
The top notes of this sparkling grapefruit/ginger juice by Chanel will turn heads as you walk by! The vetiver/cedar basenotes created by Polge will give you a happy sunny glow that will make others smile. A "Versatile People Pleaser" that will compete with the best niche scent for your attention!
Scent ~ 9

Q. If this Chanel is so generic why are there so few smell alikes?
I also bought it for my husband, and it is a stylish masculine scent, not overly woody or spicy, simply a nicely constructed cologne, it isn't a sporty, or relaxing scent, , but for a man of taste this is a great scent to have, regardless of age it has style and presence, maybe a more subdued Chanel, still a Chanel though.
I bought this for my husband last Christmas and I love it on him. I'm not sure about all the negative reviews but then fragrance is such a personal thing. It has a clean scent to me without being too complex. I don't really care for men's fragrances which are heavy and the sillage is overwhelming. A quick, short spray is all that's necessary and my husband smells great - when you get real close, not when he enters the room. It may not be for everyone, but it is certainty for one!
Alright CHANEL, what the heck ? After 10 YEARS of wait from your customers this is what we get ?
Lemon - ginger - vetiver... This is the simplified crowd pleaser fougère at its best !... What a lack of originality. It smells pretty much like any other "fresh - clean - gentle" on the market. Can't believe Mr Polge actually created this. Bleu has no character whatsoever.
That said, that scent is ACCEPTABLE, but NOT from a designer house like CHANEL, which have come up with mythical, refined and original fragrances, such as Egoiste, Antaeus, etc. Compared to them, Bleu is gross and common.
If you're looking forward to buy a gift, this one might be good for you. A very safe modern scent, would please anybody, especially the young males.
Bleu is one of the best selling fragrances here in France and I see many women (never 30+) buying it for their companion.
Also, this could definitely be unisex, it's not specially masculine to my nose. Girls if you love this, wear it.
I hope that Bleu was just a mistake from Chanel, and that they'll come up with something up to expectations next time. Bleu has clearly killed the "quality house" image Chanel had with fragrance connoisseurs.
PS : the ad is funny... They should rather say "Be expected".
You like Bleu ? Fine, but be sure to take a look at Egoiste Platinum. Way more masculine and refined.
I started out as one of those who did not like this scent at all. But after getting frustrated with the longevity of my other favorite scents, I kept returning to this.
I still don't love this but it performs really well. Its better as a night scent than an everyday signature scent. I just think it could get overwhelming and old if overused.
I think the scent is growing on me. It certainly smells good or I wouldn't have dropped the money to by a 3.4 oz bottle, but the "balmy" element is what im not crazy about. I wouldn't consider this a fresh and clean scent but im definitely happy to add it to my collection.
My favorite scent is Versace's Pour Homme which, regardless of what anyone says, has a lot of similarities to Bleu. But as bad as I hate to admit it, VPH just doesn't last long enough. So I plan to use Bleu for times when I need more longevity.
Actually, on my skin, it reminds me a bit of Dior Homme Sport 2008, but only in a first phase. Here I have that "soapy" feeling which I do feel also in DHS, but less intensive(Dior is more citrusy, Chanel is more gingery). I guess it comes from citruses and ginger, these two blended together. I like that feeling.
I like the phase that BdC changes totally from citrus-ginger a'la Sport fragrance into more mature, serious and refined woody - incense scent. I can feel it especially during winter, when I step from cold air outside into the warm air in my house(or at my work). During the warmer seasons it's not so noticeable and the fragrance is more citrusy and gingery.
@nandor70 what do you mean?
I'm my self , in love with citruses a lot , so basically , i liked Bleu de Chanel alot in spit from any negative reviews i red about it ( with all do respect ) , it has a very good longevity , the last little juice left i sprayed it on my cloths in my wordrop , it lasted 4 a whole day , the funny thing i did not smell any mint at all or any other note , all i can smell really good is lemon & lots of lemon which i have no complain AT ALL.
Scent : 8/10.
Longevity : 6 - 8 hours.
Silage : very good.
Bottle Design : Excellent.
P.S. i have 2 bottles.
Bleu de Chanel, AKA the lady killer... Who cares what other men say about this (I notice mostly men whine about this) - as long as the ladies love it is all that matters... Chanel, THANK YOU!
Keep those negative reviews coming. Bleu de Chanel, despite the negative reviews, has garnered more compliments then I would have imagined, from the gals and a few guys as well. Great longevity, projection is excellent but not overpowering. In this world of “yet another aquatic” Bleu de Chanel is quietly gaining respect. So keep those negative comments and reviews coming, stay on that bandwagon, it’s great to wear something this good, not being worn by every other guy.
For work-and the reason I learned not to buy something just because it was from Chanel. I figured Platinum Egoiste was so amazing, most of the line had to be stellar. Bleu is great, don't get me wrong. Compared to PE, it's like a rock star versus youtube sensation tribute band. You will get all kinds of compliments if that is what you are going for. However, you quickly note what is age appropriate. The compliments came from the just 20something group of women stating it was like grapefruit. This is not a high school scent by any means but definitely 20's-mid 30-ish.
HINT: After two initial sprays-once into the air and walk into it-really sticks to the clothes. Caution advised, it can linger through a wash.
I kind of smell a diaper-ish note here. Certainly not a used diaper, but sort of displeasing to me.
Not good to me.
I try it 3 times, and doesn't work well.
I cant conceptualise in my brain how is it possible to buy a fragrance whithout smelling it before !?!?
Smells a bit like a comfortable old book. Overall, I like this fragrance but am not wild about it for myself. However, I can see why it is a favorite with many people, and would recommend trying a sample.
Top notch quality. This is catnip for women and it lasts all day. The top notes are the best part of the fragrance for sure and I wish they lasted forever haha.
Nothing unusual, fresh office scent, very good balanced. I really imagine the color dark blue when I sniff this scent (it's wery serious, mature and also elegant), but beside of that I think it's a little too safe and a easy to forget one.
This is undoubtedly one of the best men's perfumes, fascinate women because it shows a special man, engaging, dynamic.
Honestly, i bought this one for its higher price, just to expect something of next level. In the beginning the dry down gave me smells of wet woods, which wasn't really pleasant, later on i got comfortable with it and now i think every man on earth should have this one. you just might not be able to get laid down with a lady but you're going to make an absolute impression in a business meeting, job interview, impressing your clients. Bleu is about confidence, its very manly, powerful and wearing it is making a very sober and decent statement. Price is completely justified, last i wore it three days back, shirt is hanging right now in my closet and swear i can still smell the fragrance. This and one million has the longest longevity . come across so far. have
I like clean scents the most, I like ginger, I even like lemon notes and usually ok with peppery and powdery scents but not this way when this all are combined. The same reason I cant like this as Bvlgari BLV, reminds me of washing powder or scouring powder, not soap, I feel it little bit synthetic. Although I can see this is appealing to the majority and there is nothing wrong with loving this its just not my cup of tea mostly because of bad associations/memories.
(however I cannot pass by the fact that such releases as Egoist or Allure are not in the same league as Bleu to be honest).
What is interesting to me, that is smells different according to season of the year. In winter it's more woody-incensy and during spring and in summer it smells more citrusy-gingery(I get kind of soapy feeling), a little bit simillar to Dior Homme Sport 2008. That's why I prefer to use it in winter. But I have to apply at least 6 sprays then to get more than decent longevity...
I'm really trying to like this one. I've used whole 100 ml bottle, testing it still and still. And still I can't say I do like it.
The opening of it is really bad on me. All I get is soap... Soap de Chanel - exactly what it is! Fortunately, the further, the better :) After 2 hours quite a lot incense comes in. I felt it after 10th test, more less. It's getting smokey and I liked it! Last part is a bit aromatic - beautiful ginger comes in. It plays its game with tree and green elements like patchouli and vetiver.
Its lasting on my skin depends on amount of perfume applied on my skin. 5 heavy sprays give me about 8 hours with decent projection and sillage.
One thing I can say for sure - it's a safe whole year round fragrance.
Very nice citrus opening.I like it,but the dry down was not as good as the opening.I can't really describe the notes, just didn't work with my skin.Longevity is excellent. It defintely does not smell like most aquatics which I can't stand.More like Green Irish Tweed.Everyone says it smells generic yet nobody says what smells like this for cheaper.
big hype for peanuts!!!!! we expected more from jacques polge and chanel house!!!!!! too casual and nothing more and very similar to polo blue!
It's pleasant, sporty and freshly masculine. I can't really pick out any individual notes except some citrus and a very light incense. I have nothing bad to say about Bleu, but nothing good to say either. It just doesn't leave much of an impression.
First impressions are usually important. Sometimes we change how we feel as we get to know someone, but many times our first opinion is usually the right one. I feel the same way about fragrances too. When I first met Bleu de Chanel I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever smelled. Granted at that time I only had experience with a few celebrity fragrances. I have smelled a lot more since then although not nearly as much as some of the experienced noses on this site. Still, my initial impression is the same. I continue to feel Bleu is a beautiful fragrance.
On my skin it begins with bright citrus, changes to a smoky incense smell, then fades to ginger and vetiver. Others mention jasmine in the middle but I do not know how to detect it individually. For me it just smells crisp and clean with a little smokiness that prevents it from becoming "sport." The nutmeg I only detect when it is warmer than 70 degrees. Then the fragrance has a mildly sweet element to it.
This is first choice out of my small collection when I just want to smell fresh and clean. Second is Prada Infusion Vetiver or Prada Man and third Guerlain Vetiver. I do appreciate the likes of Azzaro Pour Homme, but I highly doubt it is something I would wear to work. So, I like the modern twist on a classic masculine scent Bleu provides. I do want to meet Guerlain Homme and Homme Intense. From reading, the consensus is they both are a step up from Bleu. For now I am content with my Chanel.
another casual and common scent like others!!!!! nothing special by jacques polge maybe his nose needs to be cleaned!!!!!!
Smelled this at Dubai Airport , well im a 19 year old fella and to me it smelled really good , didnt have the money to purchase this so i bought moschino forever , its really good. :)
It's funny.
Some people say it's "pretty much like all other colognes out there",
but nobody mentions a singular similar scent.
Weird, huh ?
This scent smells perfection.
It's not invasive, nor weak, and it has a nice longevity.
For those with good taste, and for those who want to be praised. ;)
A citrus/fresh/sport scent pretty much like all the other ones out there - or perhaps different in a subtle way that I cannot detect. It dried down to a slight ocean note. This one may last longer, but there's really nothing new here. Not for me.
Very citrusy, generic classic smelling man fragrance, in my opinion. Reminds me of my dad.
On me, it stays very close to the skin after 5 minutes. After a couple of hours I can still smell it but really faintly.
Ever worry about saying the wrong thing? Have a few spritz of this and your confidence will flow into the next room, however the scent doesn't. Its a great cologne for formal wear or job interviews, but wouldn't be my first pick for casual wear.
Regardless of the hype and poor longevity, this cologne is worthwhile. Fortunately I got this as a gift...and between you and me, id much prefer to have gotten Allure.
this fragrance one of bestseller in my country , i like it but nothing special, i think all this hype just coz it from house of chanel and Massive advertising campaign accompanying the fragrance played a big role in it success to me it just good fragrance but not great, that's it .
Bleu has a simple but handsome bottle (with a classy magnetic cap) and an excellent spray atomizer. The fragrance is very likable and is almost a hybrid of fresh scent and darker spice. (The top fresher citrus notes being the best part for me.) Sadly, as it dries down it loses power, sits close, and seems to almost go stale on my skin.
Biggest issue is longevity. I get about 3 hours of quality time with great compliment-factor during that window...then for the rest of the time it just goes flat or linear which cannot be overlooked at this pricepoint.
Overall rating: (Good) 7/10
PS: I highly advise that you buy the smaller 1.7oz version because this fragrance tends to "evolve" a bit within the bottle over time bringing in more of the less-than-fresh incense notes that clutter up the top. (My bottle has been carefully stored during the year since I opened and I can really tell a difference.)
I can't get on board with the hype that has been built up around Bleu lately. I have tried it a few different times and do not see anything special about it. Mediocre smell, mediocre performance, high price for designer. Its clean, simple, and inoffensive, but for the price there is absolutely nothing special here. I would put nautica voyage against this all day.
Bleu lacks imagination. It is a respectable showing, but it was clearly designed as an accessible entry point into the brand for those less willing to take risks or break from the crowd. Chanel has earned its chops at true innovation (e.g., Égoïste, Antaeus), but Bleu was a clear, targeted market strategy to attract buyers who prefer to buy trendy and safe, and stick within the narrow band of prevailing idioms. It's a clone, but it's a respectable clone. Not every new offering has to pioneer a new category or redefine the field. And just because something is popular doesn't mean it's bad. Still, Chanel good have gone out a little further in its limb on this one while still reaching its targeted market segment. This is just too safe, even for Chanel.
So lately I have decided to revist some things. Next on the list was Bleu. Let me say this.....Bleu is a BEATIFUL fragrance. After spending time with so many niche fragrances, splitting them, sampling them, and buying many straight out (expensive as that can be). I have realized one thing. It is usually the "mindset" and not the fragrance itself that casues negative comments.
This opens with a lovely very bright lemon+grapefuit combination. Immediately the pinkpepper and ginger joins the party, giving it a creamy+spicy accord. As it dries down into middle of the heart, the woods come along, giving it weight and maybe some added sweetness (this is where we see the pour monsieur concentree, tiffany for men, early 90's vibe). Funny thing is, I never realized how woody/creamy sweet this fragrance was. Sort of the same vein of the before mentioned frags but no vanilla in sight. It never dominates but I get whiffs of sweetness underneath the spicy+citrusy accord. I guess the incense and mint are maybe components but never players to my nose.
I don't see how in the world people have longevity or sillage issues with this. I give it 4/5 for sillage and 5/5 longevity. One thing that I love about this is the base and transition of the fragrance. Though it seems common it stands out above the rest of the frags of this genre.
This is an easy 4/5 maybe more. It has everything it needs and lacks nothing.
It is a very classic fragrance for men. The Vetiver is dominant but very well balanced with the citrus which makes it fresh like a classic cologne. I personally like it and I give it as a gift to my daddy who loves it and says that stays on skin for hours. It is not a crazy innovative fragance. Chanel played with the ingredients of the vast sea of classic masculine perfumes in order to make something new. The result is not very exciting but on the other hand is very well balanced. For sure you will get compliments and most of the people will like it.
Nice but it only lasted about 1 hour on my skin.
Bleu de Chanel has a very strong lemony citrus opening. It almost crosses into Pledge territory with the top notes, but there's some spicy sweetness to temper it and keep it in check. The sourness of the lemon diminishes significantly after the first ten minutes, and the result is a pretty average masculine lemon and incense with woods composition. Projection and longevity are both pretty low. The drydown fades into sweet powdery woody incense. Ho hum..
Bleu de Chanel is a young professional who lives a comfortable life but is disconnected from it. He takes his dates to quaint fancy overcrowded restaurants which he loves reading about in his spare time. He makes good money, wears almost exclusively Banana Republic (because it's nice and convenient), and his New Year's resolution is always to find new hobbies such as: "figure out which type of music I enjoy."
He is kind and friendly, but for some reason, he just isn't the least bit sexy or seductive, even though he has a motorcycle.
He is physically unremarkable, and wholly unimpressive. Perhaps the World would be a better place if there were more people like him, or maybe it would just be more crowded. If I had to choose between offerings from Chanel, I would select Egoiste Platinum over Bleu de Chanel any day.
Just this side of "dime a dozen" (bonus points for niceness).
من یه صد میل غیر اصلشو دارم . جالبه اسمش بلودزارا هستش . بوش عینه اصلیشه . ماندگاریشم خوبه ، پخش بوی بدی هم نداره .
First off, I do enjoy this fragrance, and the translucent blue bottle is so minimalist it's easily my favourite packaging, however...
I find it a touch boring, it's linear scent which was appealing at the start, is now a major reason for this, it's also a tad clawing on my skin (when I'm inside) and I don't get more than 4 hours.
I can see why some love it, you will probably get compliments. To me though, Chanel offers better fragrances.
Certainly try it ON YOUR SKIN, it is nice, just for me i'll always prefer Chanel Allure.
Does not IMO deserve the grilling it gets. 7.5/10
I held off forming an opinion on this scent since it hit the stores in late 2010, I instinctively recoiled at the lame adverts and billboards and if I'm honest, didn't like the fact that non-fragrance heads raved about this, but had no time or energy to explore the rest of the stable from Chanel. Idiosyncracies aside, I gave this one a good couple of sprays to each forearm today and have to say, it didn't blow my mind away, but it is a pretty safe, smart and compliment-getter of a fragrance that is ideal for days when you just want something smart and unassuming, say when your self-expression is turned down a tad - this one is ideal. The only downside is the longevity - yes, everyone here who had mentioned it obviously got that too - after 2 hours max, it's gone!
I bought the 50 ML bottle from a local authorized store. I really love the smell but i really have a problem with the sillage and longevity.
After i applied the frag it stays only for 1-2 hours on my skin. The sillage is very weak.. after 1 hour i can only smell it close on my skin. I dont get why this perfume is so bad on my skin.. I am sure that it is not a counterfeit...anyone some suggestions ?
The good, the bad, and the ugly:
Very strangescent. At first when I smelled it at the store, I didn't like it. However, it transformed over twenty minutes in to a very nice scent. I love it. Its sex in a bottle.
Longevity is insane, almost to a fault, and the initial smell is average at best.
Boring bottle. Needs some more stylistic elements t make it look unique. Like the Versace pour homme and eau fraiche, bulgari, etc.
Not my favorite Chanel, but a very competent addition to the line. Is somewhat "mainstream" smelling. Not a homerun for Chanel, but a solid hit nonetheless.
Beautiful fragrance very sensual and perfect for a mans man
Best mens chanel by far :)
Having tested this prior to availability and believing it to be purely daywear I was suprised by an advertising campaign that attempted to place it elsewhere within the market.
Bleu manages to contain notes of grapefruit and mint that I usually hate, but combines these with the best citrus opening combination I have experienced in modern perfumery. The spices blend in wonderfully, remain constantly fresh but never pushing through so far as to take over from the citrus accords.
Chanel have produced here what they failed to do with Allure Sports, they have created a unique fragrance that I am willing to purchase for myself to wear in my time. Days off work, hanging about, doing very little else bar enjoying life - that's what this fragrance is about.
This fragrance literally lasts 10 minutes or less on my skin, even with 12+ sprays. Something about it is just incredibly weak on my skin, which doesn't particularly break my heart since it smells like a classed up version of Axe body spray. I used up about half of my 100 mil bottle and gave it away to a friend. I'll be wearing my Antaeus instead.
Incredibly underwhelming, in my opinion. Chanel have never really excelled in men's fragrances
i get alot of polo blue vibe, the more i use this...
one of my best collection ever , second time to use it and still like it
one of my best collection ever , second time to use it and still like it
great combo! try this, jean paul gaultier terrible, and versace man eau fraiche
It is a perfect masculine work scent. Although it is bad for nights out. To really enjoy it you need to have another nights out scent, so that this does not get boring as casual scent and therefore you will start to really appreciate it, because when you mix fragrances for occasions you will keep noticing how good you smell (and that is what gives you additional self confidence), while if you only use one fragrance you do get used to it after a while and you start not to notice it. To me this is by far the best working scent because it screams quality, it's not that sweet, smells really solid (that is good for me because you do want to smell like a real man at work) and yes it does beat Acqua di Gio for sure from my point of view, and yes i had AdG.
Smells great at first, but then you get punched in the face by a lemon. Hopefully the dry down helps mellow it out.
This is an excellently executed fragrance. I can't get enough of it. It's very mature, deep and classy. Longevity and sillage are both through the roof! Easy 12 hours on both for me!
I just got this cologne in the mail yesterday. I wore it today and I LOVE it!! It smells very elegant and fresh. I already got some compliments from my co-workers. Great fragrance from Chanel, as always.
I got a lot of compliments on this cologne. Women love it, even more than I do. Had it a while back so it's kind of hard to try to break down the notes from memory but it was def a compliment getter.
ok you want to smell classy fresh clean sexy you want to make a statement buy this, it does not matter you are wearing formal casual or in the beach wearing shorts and oklay glasses. this is actually what i like about this that you can wear all the year on any occasion. expensive to buy though.
Nice perfume for daily use, for any occasion and any time of the year, an all-rounder.
Good sillage and longevity. I do not understand because they say it smells like generic, and space of this perfume reminds me .... is empty.
Just Love it ! It last long on me and keep getting awesome compliments.
I always try and give an honest review so here goes...lemon rind and ginger are definitely noticeable in the opener. Soft and creamy. The lemon is more straight forward, whereas the ginger has more of a rounder presence on the palette. A sweet patchouli presence is noticed after about 5 minutes.
After a 30 minute opener a dark and moody smoky note starts happening. I remember wearing this last summer and I wasn't too crazy for the smoky mids. However, beneath the pungent smoke note, lays the original creamy opener still.
After about an hour or so (on my skin), sillage is down to a few inches. The smoky note still remains as does a very nice citrusy creamy roundness.
...And thats about it. I will say that being true to a Chanel fragrance, through out the day I will get hints of absolute brilliance, that quickly disappears as quickly as it came. Almost like a faint memory. I can understand other's disappointments with this fragrance, because it is a safe and moderate fragrance. It's neither liberal or conservative, black nor white; It's just a safe, clean and standard fragrance.
I've always played it safe with the fragrances that I wear but once I came of age, Chanel was the house that I went to, to step it up a notch. Unless something remarkable happens, I will not be replacing my current bottle of Bleu de Chanel. It's a remarkably pleasant smell but it just falls short of anything I would remember. Imagine a great one-night-stand that is soon forgotten by the next one-nighter. Overall, I would say this an office scent. 25-40. Not sexy, not daring, not memorable and certainly not a classic. A very pleasant close-to-the-skin fragrance is what you'll be getting for $85 for a 3.4oz.
love the scent, but it disapates after only a couple of hours.
Definitely try before you buy. If you don't like ginger, you probably won't like Bleu. For me, this was a scrubber.
Great longevity and projection. Overpowers other colognes when comparing them. Sprayed several on one arm (L' Homme, Play Intense, The One, Dior Homme Intense, Armani Code, and Bleu) each about an inch apart. Bleu came out on top and invaded all the other colognes. Good smell too.
8/10 for me.
My nose always gets a strong sweet pineapple note from Bleu de Chanel. I just went way overboard, on purpose, with the trigger today. I gave myself 20 sprays to the chest/torso area and immediately put on a shirt as it was still dripping wet on my skin. It wasn't overpowering after the dry down and, according to solicited remarks, was not strong at all. "You smell so good" were the types of compliments I received.
Bleu de Chanel is an olfactory winner in my book, but it took soooo much to satisfy me. Face it; we all like being our own room deodorizer here. However, to spray as much as I had, and still get average longevity and projection, was ridiculous. I'll continue to buy the product, but never at the full retail price or without some sales perks.
I have recieved more unsolicited compliments from this fragrance than all the compliments I have recieved from all my other fragrances COMBINED. Which is a bit unfortunante cause there are so many other fragrances I love so much but never recieve any compliments.
But in the end of the day, it's not about the compliments I recieve, but it's about wearing what I want to wear and what I love.
When I first bought Bleu I was a bit disappointment because it felt boring (I was used to the Niche heavy hard-hitters) where as Bleu is transparent and subtle. I was also afraid that it would have low longivity based on how it felt on my first couple wearings.
But over time Bleu grew on me and has become one of my favorites. It just perfects what's it what intended to do. Bleu doesn't smell cheap, wearing bleu trained my nose to make my other Chanels (Edition Blanche and AHS..) and virtually all my other designers smell much cheaper in comparison.
Bleu is probably the most versatile fragrance I have (exception, probably not best for the winter cold)
The longvity is not as short as I was first feared it was going to be, infact, it seemed like the more I wore it the longer the longivity got (I think my nose learned to pick up on the little things that I first missed). Most of the time, people can smell this on me after 7+ hours of me wearing it, but I cannot really smell it on myself after 4 hours, but i'll still preiodically get wiffs of this after that.
If many people really think Bleu is a 'generic' scent, then I'll have to say Bleu is a 'generic' masterpiece.
The sexiest most elegant take on the lemony summer scent cliche.
Strong lemon coupled with a smoky incense. The lemony base is where the genericness comes from but this scent adds an intriguing smoky almost woody note. It's perfect because it takes the much beloved summer/spring classic popularized by the Armani ADG wearers and adds a touch of class.
I've worn ADG before but females seem to prefer this one. Compared to the other Chanel offerings I can see why this is not as well received. Simply put it's generic but it's also the best take on it. Great for a signature summer scent. Bang for buck? Not very high, there are other fragrances which accomplish the same for half the price but this is the best one out there.
Scent - 8.5/10
Longevity - 5 hours
Sillage - 6/10
Final word - The best designer "lemony summer casual" scent.
got it as a gift - i kind of prefer L'Homme Libre (which is spicier and brighter and has more character than this) bleu de chanel smells like one of those drugstore generic colognes...dissapointed..but nice bottle construction with magnetic cap and all..sad the scent has to go this route..
I recently let my friend wear this to a house party as he's cologne inept. Imagine my surprise when he got complements on it and my new Hani Mori got none accept for from someone i was TOTALLY not interested in LOL. ugh...
The first time I smelled this beast was in a shopping center , a gentleman was passing by me when I stopped all of a sudden and took a long breath ! Oh yes , that was the case with Chanel Bleu . The projection was unstoppable , and I made my way to the perfume market and got me a 3.4oz . I still keep the bottle to remind myself with this special aroma that beats all challenges. Enjoy it if u can afford it . Women adore it , that is a FACT .
Bleu is a let down for me. I was expecting something more unique, as most of Chanel releases. Actually Bleu is a good scent, but lacks of originality. For me Bleu and YSL's L'Homme Libre shares some similarities. As said here, Bleu is a safe scent. An okay scent with good sillage, lasting power and projection.
Clean and classy, very high quality fragrance as is always the case with Chanel.
"Zesty" is the word I would use to describe this scent. Opens with a fresh, tart citrus. After the first few minutes, the pepper comes to life, giving the citrus a sparkling, effervescent quality. Ginger comes into play here as well, lively and invigorating. This is a great scent in the morning.
The citrus and ginger die down a bit, making way for the incense and musty vetiver, lending an faintly smoky, dusty edge to the base. The incense, vetiver and a hint of sandalwood make for an inviting drydown, which is both clean and sensual. The spices are still at play in the drydown phase as well, tickling the nose slightly. While clean and composed, this scent is also very masculine, lacking in any overt sweetness or feminine qualities. Extremely versatile, good for business or casual, night or day.
Projection is good, and longevity is excellent. The ingredients are top-notch, never chemical or overpowering.
Bleu is among the best "safe" scents out there, and has considerably greater character than most of the competition.
Can't recall ever being told I smell generic and synthetic when I wear this. Women love it, that's all you need to know.
This is the smell of an old love affair. I never knew what he wore, I only knew he wore one perfume. My senses reeled when I was at the Chanel counter today because I smelt him, although that could never be possible, with the miles and oceans and barriers between. But there he was, at least his scent was, in this blue bottle. Tres French, tres original, tres him. I won't go into the notes except that they are all there in perfect harmony and delicious from opening into the dry down. I can attest that the longevity for this is superb...and the memories...well, poignant. I was this close to purchasing a bottle just to hold him once again, but that would have been insane.
I understand what people are saying about this being generic and safe but I don't care. This is a quality fragrance. It is clean, elegant and sophisticated and the way it lingers on a shirt collar after it has been worn is simply lovely.
i love this very clean but does not last very long in a few hours its gone
if it lasted longer i would be very happy
Bleu De Chanel is a fresh, mildly spicy fragrance with surprising depth and excellent structure. The grapefruit, lemon, and ginger keep the top bright and energetic while the incense and woods lend purpose to the full-bodied heart.
Bleu is an extremely versatile fragrance, well-suited for any season, occasion, or age. It is appealing to others and never becomes cloying or intrusive. I think a lot of people make the mistake of judging it immediately upon application, and write it off as a typical 'fresh' fragrance. But it is more than that. Bleu is more robust than your average fresh fragrance, it lasts longer, and its construction is of a much better quality. The notes and accords in Bleu interact very well with one another and and exhibit many subtle complexities throughout the development of the scent.
a four-season day-night date-casual 18-80 complex juice!
I would recommend Bleu to any guy looking for a quality, fresh fragrance that can be worn comfortably anywhere at anytime and still portray class with a certain degree sophistication.
By the way, my new signature cologne that I took over Lalique encre noire.
Excellent fresh sexy scent, with staying power of 1 - 2 hours.
i cant find a caracter of this.and no longevity :(

Note: Works wonders as sig. scent, partially synthetic though. You may get sick of it after a while.
seriously, ignore all those bad and "generic smelling" reviews. this stuff smells awesome it IS unique, it's long lasting and projects very well. girls absolutely ADORE this fragrance and it's the most versatile fragrance on the market. it's suitable for dates, day time, winter, summer, fall, autumn, work, office, special dinner, EVERYTHING. just get it!
This is the ultimate safe and sexy fragrance. I hated on this initially, as did the most of the fragcomm, but it's true a nice fragrance.
elegance and sexy charme!
it was a love at first smell with this one! I was - oh my god - in love with it. I can say that it is one of the most interesting and gently masculine but powerful scents I've ever laid my nose on. Its longevity and sillage also upps the amp with this one! warm notes of ginger and sandalwood are so nicely infused with a hint of freshness from the citrusy middle notes. this perfume smells perfect almost on everybody and, indeed, it is as if it fuses perfectly with one's skin. Men - ladies love this one and if you are trying to meet your one - wear this! success would be granted ;)
I dont know how people can call this generic! Maybe the citrus opening is generic but after a few minutes this deepens into a warm, woody, earthy scent that is far from generic! I just bought a 150ml bottle and love it!
Such a sexy and fresh smell! Coming from a girl: guys wear this smell and you'll be a hit with the ladies ;)
I was on a trip and spotted Bleu de Chanel in the shop for the price I was willing to pay, and purchased it. As I have mentioned before, there wasn't one emotionally charged reason for me to absolutely have this fragrance, because it is very generic. However, Bleu de Chanel is pleasant enough to appeal to most senses.
Jack of all trades. Really is quite a versatile scent.
Opens with grapefruit and citrus. Don't groan at this well trodden path and bare with it.
Then the trademark Chanel pepper starts sprinkling itself onto the mix.
Now here is where it gets interesting, insence and spices with vetiver with zesty woods floating around.
It's a real transformation. The ingredients and blending are of course high quality as expected.
People are calling this "generic" this and "boring" that but they never really stopped to smell the rest of the homme lineup. They are the epitome of safe, inoffensive scents. Chanel makes elegant and safe frgrances for men that are masterfully blended with high quality ingredients. Shut up.
Back to Bleu.
It's one that makes a great Signiture scent and can also be worn when dressed up. It's instantly recognisable and you will get compliments.
Projection on my skin is great which is weird because my skin eats frgrances. Longevity is also great.
Give this a try and ditch what the critics say. It's not reinventing the wheel, but how many Chanel fragrances for men do? Like the rest of them it just smells nice.
Bleu de Chanel I love you. Whenever I smell you on a man my heart jumps.
Bleu smells clean, classy and sophisticated. The opening is fresh with something extra, the drydown is beautiful, warmer and woody. It has this really intriguing aroma that I can not quite describe.
Blue has been compared to Hugo Boss, but I could not disagree more. Blue has depth (a lot of it!) and warmth, something Boss lacks.
Try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
a pleasant smelling fragrance from chanel, i think it is a perfect gift for a young man or even someone older that maybe does not wear alot of fragrances, probably someone who would like to smell good to the ladies he works with or his girlfriend or wife, really do not see this as a bad choice, it is has a litte citrus with a nice woods blend to it, some mossy qualities that will give it a nice dry down..doesn't seem to be very offensive , and in trying it ample amount of , hey you smell good today. not a ground breaking fragrance that screams hey smell me but just a good smell, and made of chanel quality, not a bad choice at all..you could do a lot worse, not tremendous longevity but very few i have tried do , even some of the more sought after niche...types... i have dissapointed with many of them..
it smells good.. won't set the fragrance world on fire with the more experienced noses, but for just a pleasant ambiance,,not bad at all..

Be "Unexpected". This is how they are trying to promote "bleu de Chanel" in their latest ad! However when I smell this I always remember the other citrussy smells out there and I don't think that this one is really different from the others. I like the smell very much... but it's not that unique and there is terre d'hermes as a citruss smell that raise the bar really high that this one cannot touch! But nice try though!
An excellent masculine scent.
An excellent masculine scent.
nice smell!!!!!
Is it just me or does this smell kind of sweet? I don't mind this but I don't think that I will purchase either.
This is the one and only Chanel fragrance for men that I own. I really like this fragrance. You could directly detect the incense note, along with burst of citrus notes, after a while it gets smokey and powdery, yet still the incense and citrus notes are detectable. Lasting power and silage are great!
like biografia for men by natura
10/10
Nothing unique here as seen with AHS or PE. Smells boring and not worth the money. I'm usually a fan of chanel but this smells more like a common Hugo or ck type fragrance.
this perfume have bad longtivity and projection on me
max 1hrs
Alright! For maby 6-8 months ago I bought this fragrance! I was so amazed!
I must say I have totally different opionions about it nowdays. I never use this.....I think it's nothing special actually...
After I tried for example Dior homme intense, creed aventus...and even boss bottled...
This chanel feels weak...longevity = "ok" nothing groundbreaking, smell 7/10
I have mixed feelings about this Chanel. Breaks from tradition in some innocuous ways, but does deserve praise for its appeal.
Opening: Wow, you know you're smelling something different. Vaguely reminiscent of some YSL L'homme Libre and ADG hybrid. Very unique and citrusy, with a warm ginger note right away. Genuinely unique.
Sillage: Decent enough, though with such light bases its not likely to get you a compliment unless you are sitting next to someone for a minute. The incense and lemon are most noticable to my nose.
Longevity: Melts nicely into a clean lemony, jasmine-esque scent. Doesn't last for more than 2-3 hours at a time for me. Which is sad, because I really want for more of the cedarwood to come through.
Best for: late Spring/Summer/Early fall. Especially in a humid climate or on moisturized skin. Wouldn't recommend too much in winter, simply because its so fresh and light. Good anywhere from noon on in season.
Gripes: Hmm. Not exactly what I have expected from Chanel in the past; innovative opening, rather uninspiring drydown. Lacks a certain, boldness. Price is a bit over the top, which is probably just Chanel hyping it a bit.
Overall: I like it. Not a terribly deep scent, but useful for its clean asthetic top and mid-notes. At this point, its still different enough to be memorable. Good clean fun.
7.8/10
This cologne is special. I went to Macy's and tested over 30 different fragrances, and at the end of the day, the only scent I could remember was Bleu De Chanel. Something about it smelled almost...untouchable. There's a certain note to this cologne and I can't quite put my finger on it, but I suppose it doesn't really matter what it is, it has a remarkable effect. To me this cologne smells the way 9 out of 10 guys in their late teens to early 30's want to smell. AND THAT'S WHY IT'S AMAZING. Most of the time guys have to settle for something almost perfect, or worse, something cheap and blatant. You can find 50 different fragrances that smell like a pretty good aquatic, and you can be happy with them. But the second you smell Bleu de Chanel, you'll realize that IT is what you've been looking for. It has the missing ingredient, and I don't even know what it is, but it smells so unique and powerful, yet subtle, that it's impossible not to enjoy this scent. And fragrance snobs might say that it's mainstream, and not incredibly unique but I'd say that on the contrary, what makes this cologne unique is that it's perfect. AND mainstream. It is the only cologne I've ever smelled that gives me the feeling that I've finally found what I'm looking for. And I think it has that effect on girls too. I bought a bottle right at the beginning of summer 2012, and so began the most incredible summer of my life. Need I say more? One final thing to add, I took my girlfriend shopping (she and I met this summer, and many times she would compliment me on how great I smelled) we went to the cologne section at Macy's and I asked her to smell 20 random colognes, including Bleu de Chanel, and she flat out said that none of them even came close.
In my opinion, Bleu is the best male scent Chanel has created, and I like them all.
This is not so much as review as a defense of the scent: It's really curious how divisive this cologne has been among the fragrance enthusiast sites, yet how consistently it's mentioned to garner compliments.
The main complaint seems to be that it's generic, too similar to other things, too bland. But I think people are confusing "genericness" with balance. Lot's of fragrance buffs like scents with a well-defined, character, and they seem to feel that Chanel doesn't have this. I would disagree. It's not just a single-minded character like most fragrances; rather it's multifaceted, where there is more than meets the eye.
The thing about Bleu is that, as suggested by its advertising, it's a mass-market, all-use scent. And to me, it does that virtually perfectly. I find it hard to think of many other colognes that can be used absolutely any time of the year(and do it *well*) the way Bleu can. It's fresh enough to deal with hot weather, yet warm enough to inspire closeness on a cold night. It's incredibly multi-layered, and I always seem to be discovering a new layer to it.
If my description doesn't seem convincing, just read through the plethora of reviews and impressions here and other enthusiast places, and compare them to those of other scents. It's common for a scent to be divisive(A*men), but usually because of preferences, not descriptions. I mean here we have a scent with more user votes than 90% of the fragrances on this site at over 1600, and yet as of this writing, there are only two votes for a "reminds me of" with one Boss fragrance, and looking through the reviews, the discrepancy of comparisons is huge for a scent with so many reviews.
If you want more proof of how balanced and multi-layered it is, look at the votes for when it should be worn. It's very evenly spread out for all four seasons, as well as day and night usage. Again, can't think of anything else that achieves such a balance. That's remarkable.
Speaking on a personal level now I find my greatest issue with it is that I can't decide whether it's something I want to wear as an every day scent, or only for special occasions. Again, that's a quality I'm not used to seeing: being able to easily be used as an everyday casual scent, or only for nights out and special occasions.
I think part of the problem is that a lot of fragrance lovers try to pick out smells with clearly and easily identifiable character, so that they don't smell like anything else. Bleu, on the other hand, is eclectic in it's scent, drawing from spicy and fresh, yet also warm and musky. I think it's character is clear, yet not necessarily easy to define. It's eclecticism means can adapt to your own character. You can be who you want to be, rather than just letting the cologne dictate something about you.
If anything, Bleu will just dictate that you smell good. Despite divisiveness, most seem to agree this is a huge compliment getter. Even those who don't like it. While I don't wear scents just to appeal to other people, if people are complimenting you, it's because you smell good, simple as that.
To me, Bleu is extremely far from generic. It's mysterious, it's multifaceted. It's the fragrance version of a polymath, of the quintessential Rennaissance man, and if it seems devoid of character, it's because it allows room for you to complement it with your own.
opening notes smells like cheap drugstore cologne, but i loooove the drydown. give it at least 30 minutes to let the chanel quality appears.
i think its very versatile to be wear during day or night
I like this smell on a man, but my brother wears it so I would feel weird to call it a "sexy" scent. But, one of my brothers co-workers said he smelt "luscious" when he wore this. A very nice scent for men :)
This parfum is a real gem! Last week while being in the night club 2 different and unknown women enjoyed my scent . The first one was a placing girl in the first club. She could not stop sniffing me whole night. The second one was just a visitor in another club, a beautiful woman - about 30 . She asked me directly what the perfume is. Later I got her number. :)
A perfume from the economic crisis, common and boring as an aftershave from the discount.
This is not a true Chanel. This is Aqua Velva.
Its worth trying. I enjoy the smell, but its nothing special. To me it just smells like CK Eternity. A more plesant dry down, maybe a little too soapy.
I call it the most politicly correct fragrance. This one is heavy, bold, pleasant, high quality stuff.Yes,there nothing new or groundbreaking, accept superb quality of the product, and here Chanel does the unbelivable. It lasts all day long for about 10-12 hours without changing a bit.Not too soft, not too sweet, like I've said - very bold.Maybe that was the idea of bringing Scorsese to do film for the commercial.Martin Scorsese has maid many great movies
using his bold ideas and wild imagination.I think Chanel can afford this to themselves.
I think I had high expectation for this one as it is from Chanel, one of the original and world renowned perfumers. Turns out its just an everyday mans fragrance, yeah its nice, but its not distinctive. Don't expect someone to say, ''Wow is that Chanel pour homme!?''.
The price of this is marked far to high for a mediocre frangrance, it's not 1million you're paying big bucks for unfortunately..
Chanel have set the bench mark for some amazing fragrances..Bleu unfortunately wont be remembered as one..I give it 2 yawns..yawnnnn
Seductive fragrance that surround the passage of time has a lot of good changes in the skin, it seems the Allure sporte mixed with Blanche edition, I recommend!
On the paper tester card, this is dynamite. Just as Allure Homme Sport is. On my skin, this is just a straight forward fresh aqua scent with no depth or layers of additional scents that will be revealed over time.
It literally lasts two hours maximum, and I don't even get to appreciate all the different notes within this cologne.
Longevity is crap on this cologne. Much like Allure Homme Sport I find this cologne to wash out very quickly once on my skin. I do not get the chance to appreciate it.
I defintiely find this to be VERY reminiscent to Calvin Klein Euphoria, yet different.
If it lasts on you, God Bless you. It doesn't last on me, even though I wish it would. It is a relatively nice fragrance. Nothing too innovative or different here though.
Not bad, not unique. There are a lot of other fragrances out there that smell very similar.
Quite honestly, I think it's over hyped. It has the Chanel name and plenty of advertising behind it, so credit their marketing department for a fine job with that.
I'd describe it as warm and citrusy, with a woodsy undertone.
I liked it better from the tester spray, than when I got it home and wore it.
Oooh, so classy, masculine, and earthy.... when I smell this on a man...he better watch out. ;)
i know a lot of people here say this works well in hot or cold weather but i have to say it is really better suited for the cooler temps. starts off with the grapefruit/ginger fresh frag combo but settles into a warmer scent when the vetiver and incense come through. I would label this as "dry." I've been wearing it these past days and it's very nice. It's clean, fresh, yet smoky at the same time and cuts through the air. I believe this scent is unabashedly masculine but you could wear whatever you like!
Just what I've been dreaming of for the last 2 years! I'm on a party in a club. There is a great party with the music I like! A gorgeous waitress is approaching next to me and asking me:
"Excuse me! What perfume are you wearing? It is awesome"
And the answer:
"Chanel! Bleu De Chanel!"
Very versatile. Perfect for office, casual wear, dates, day, night. Fresh enough for summer and the incense makes it suitable for winter. It's not the most original scent, but it's nice and inoffensive.
The opening is the best part. The drydown is nothing special compared to the great opening
Longevity could be better. After about three hours it becomes more and more a skin scent.
I gave to my brother this,I´m a woman and for me this a a real man parfum.I fall at the feet of a man who carried this :-)))
Edit 2 ( i am with Scenturian Appreciation)
Too many people seems to comment without testing fragrances, and that is sad as we are here to give a honest and valuable opinion to other Fragrance lovers.
Vibe: Fruity cocktail with ginger.
Top: For me Blue starts with Quality Citrus and sweet fruits, a great uplifting opening, young and invigorating with amazing class. duration 1 hour
Moderate to high projection.
Heart: High quality Spices merge with the citrus fruitiness but the citrus fades a bit, vetiver and ginger make their appearance very prominent. duration 4-6 hours. moderate projection
Base: I notice some woods mixing with incense, ginger and vetiver,it doest not project but leaves a smooth smoky trail. 2 hours.
total logenvity on my skin 8 hours.
Overall a great scent, Woman pleaser for sure, specially in the top notes, compliment getter, medium projection but high duration as all chanels, great longevity.
A tip to get the top notes floating more time, specially when a woman hug you, spray additionally in front and on back of your shirt. close to the lower neck
scent 9.5

I tried Bleu de Chanel at a Sephora (I think), spraying it on one forearm. It does not work on my skin at all. It smelled sour to me and was not pleasant at all. I'm not saying it's not good juice or that it won't work well for other men. But I couldn't wait to scrub it off of my arm.
This does not remind me of Terre. Honestly, it really doesn't. However, I do adore Terre in its own way, and I plan to purchase it. When I bought Bleu it was completely an impulse buy. For the first months I had it I was disappointed that I had purchased it. I even almost gave it away. However, now that the Winter/Fall months are starting to kick in, and the cold air is present, I've fallen in love with this scent. It lasts nearly all day, and it just smells fantastic. Though it is definitely a winter/fall scenet, and it snags a lot of compliments and attention. I love it, people around me love it, it's just great. One of my favorites for this winter. I highly recommend. And honestly, I'm not one for the whole fragrance marketing machine, I choose what I like. Although this is subject to some huge promo, it is a great scent.
I know that I will get some hate over this, but today i sampled Creed Tabarome- It has some similarities to Bleu de Chanel
I rated this mostly based on how it smelled on others and myself so i thought. Tonight i bought it and i am so grateful. Its masculine and deep. I think that this fragrance morphs into your personal scent more than others based on you and only you. You hear so much about pheromones, skin composition etc. and you spray a fragrance and it smells on you the same way it smells on everyone else. Not this one. Spray it on yourself, DONT smell, give it an hours, sniff and you will have YOUR personal fragrance. It wont smell on you the way it smells on others.
I have a friend who is African; very dark skinned and i am black but a caramel complexion. On him, it reminds me of Angel for men and on me it takes on this old school but not too harsh smell. I love it and i think that this proves that Chanel is my fav. fragrance house.
DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a safe fragrance that touts tons of compliments and good projection and longevity. Spicy blue and safe. You can blind buy this one and not be disapointed. Chanel did it again..a good quality frag for the masses..frag lover or not.
Bleu de Chanel isn't a bad formulation, but it does the same job of other quality juices in the fragrance market that cost 20% less. I actually bought a bottle and returned it, unopened of course, because of this. Bleu de Chanel did not motivate me to spend the way Allure Homme Sport Extreme did.
Again, it's not a bad formulation, but it's simply too generic for the full retail price.
I liked the the top notes...it wasn't anything that blew me away though..i think Chanel Platinum is better. try before you buy..Bleu remind me of A STRONG smelling laundry detergent (strong like the original tide)..I've seen on facebook/twitter ladies commenting how much they love Bleu de chanel...but the ladies in my world didn't care for it too much. One female said it smelled like a grandpa and the other friend started coughing when she hugged me... *deep sigh*
great rich woods and a nice masterfully balanced drydown that makes this a perfect date night scent or even better for going out
A bit generic fragrance. But due to its versatility I keep repeating using this fragrance. Good fragrance, long lasting, well project and its smell expensive! High quality product. Just too common nowadays like 1 Million.
This perfume for me was love the first sniff!!
Recommend this for everyone!
If youre not so into fragrances this might be worth the money for you to buy it! You wont be dissapointed!
I havent smelled anyting like this! this is so unique!
I bought one on ebay and it was a fake one I compared it to the original bottom and what a big difference!!!
I haaate fakes!
this fragrance for me is a 9/10 !!!
Works in every occasion, work, party..whatever! Great signature scent! But I have still not find me real signaturescent YET! :) Maby I will sooon ;)
PM me if you have some advices! Check out my collection please!
I've had my bottle for almost a year. I STILL have 60% left in the bottle! I learned to use this lightly because it can be overpowering. Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean its not projecting. TRUST ME...this one is powerful! 8/10 overall
sure shot with women, makes you deeply classy
This one, onestly, gives an after-shave feeling that i really dislike.
However it's not a bad fragrance, good for office and informal occasion.
7/10
I am going to be objective and totally honest. This fragrance is not as great for the price you have to pay. I must admit, I have only tested it a few times. The first time the sales assistant looked at me and said, “Sir, I know just the fragrance for you.” So I took a hit on the arm, waited for it to settle and bleh…very ordinary is what springs to mind. The dry down was even less moving with poor longevity. There is no way I am going to bust my wallet over Bleu de Chanel. Instead I will rather buy from a house that delivers something much better than this over rated juice for less cash.
BTW, I am not biased towards the house of Chanel, as I own Allure Pour Homme, which I absolutely adore.
I'm new to the Chanel men's fragrance line and Bleu de Chanel has won me over. I try to steer away from popular fragrances because I'm not sold on word of mouth sales associate recommendations and marketing hype.
Nonetheless, Bleu de Chanel is as equally pleasant as my bottle of Allure Homme Sport. I buy fragrances based off of their aromatherapy properties to bring good feelings to mind.
Not a review....just a general comment.
How good is Bleu?.....I bought my first 3.4oz. bottle about a year ago.....I'm on my THIRD one and it's almost done. Considering I own over 70 different bottles...........now you do the math!
Great classy aqua scent from Chanel! It's a huge compliment getter. Good for any season..even winter because there is a slight spice from the ginger and sandalwood. Chanel puts out great frags. This is a great "starter" frag for anybody who wants to get into "good frags" beyond Aqua Di Geo.
Well Channel you've done it again with what I think will be a classic fragrance. Truly musculent, sexy, classy and seductive.
I know this dosen't have it in but it smells kinda cyrpusy? Woody, fresh manishy yumm from a Female point of view!
Would just like to say this again, bleu de channel is greatness, one of the best in my collection. Smells masculin, sexy and natural, a natural pleasure!
Going to be buying my second bottle
love this perfume a lot....its refreshing after you get sweat or wet...just spray 2 shots to your neck and see,you will realize what is blue de chanel.
I've been at the cinema recently, and one very attractive girl set next to me. As she was moving her hand to touch her hair or drink her coffee, she smelled so sexy that I couldn't hold myself anymore. So I whispered straight to her ear "You smell so good, name me your perfume". She didn't expect my question, but smiled and said "Bleu Chanel...for men". I was surprised, and the very next day went to the store to find it. First spray represented me citrus with incense - very sharp, strong and masculine smell, that didn't have anything to do with that girl. After some time it turned into ginger mixed with light citrus and nutmeg so it was her...
I fully agree with vdog, I guess also that many reviews are done by fake bottles and then written "generic".
I repeated many times before: I don't know any other similar scent, and that this is not fresh aquatic summer scent at all, it fits better for autumn and winter.
I just got duped with a fake Bleu from eBay. These impostor bottles and packaging are getting VERY good these days. I had already sampled this in-store and that's what immediately tipped me off since I remember the real stuff being a lot more sharp, woodsy and crisp. This was an all around generic "fresh scent". Since I see a lot of dissapointment on here due to the scent being too "generic", I would advise to hold off on reviewing the cologne unless you purchased it at an authorized retailer. Otherwise, you might be unfairly reviewing a fake copy and not the real juice.
Ok so I decided to blind buy a bottle of this for my summer scent. I am not really a fresh citrus/aquatic sort of guy as they all seem too common in my opinion and I've never been keen on those types of scents. So I got this despite reading all the negative reviews as well as the positives and I have to say that I am pretty happy with this purchase. I personally haven't caught a whiff of this before nor have I come across anything similar. I expected a nose tingling sharp sneeze inducing juice that is like most others but with this I didn't. I seen some people saying about a clean wet dog drying of in the sun, a sort of soapiness. I totally agree with this comparison. Despite how that sounds it isn't a bad thing as it gives this a slightly unique edge. I get the impression that many die hard Chanel fans are possibly a bit miffed and had higher expectations for this fragrance but there are always going to be conflicting opnions on things like fragrances. My opinion is that this is a good long lasting fragrance, it is not my favourite nor is it my signature but I am pleased a chose to buy this as it does good for the summer days where your heavier winter scents are no good!!....
Very safe summer scent...very mainstream...very disappointed. I was expecting something else from this offering. However, it is quality in it's makeup. Chanel does a good job, as always. Safe buy, but if you own ADG, Versace Pour Homme, Eau Fraiche, Allure Homme Sport, or Issey Miyake, there is no need to purchase this offering by Chanel, imo.
Preferred Stock (yes the old cologne) + Citrus = Bleu De Chanel
Wanted to see what all the hype was about so I bought a bottle. I think I have come to the conclusion that I do not like "Dark Citrus." If you like Dark Citrus I am sure this will be right up your alley. To me this scent seems to peek quickly and flatline into "blah" just as rapid. It would be WELL worth sampling before buying. Make sure the cloying citrus in this one will not make you light headed.
General Census seems to be split.
Person A: This is one of the best smelling colognes out there!
Person B: Who would pay $100+ for some headache juice!
Again, sample before buying.
Chanel Bleu is a very nice sophistocated fragrance that is perfect for all year and all seasons. I smelled this at Dillards a few months back and i instantly fell in love with it. Bleu opens up with a cool citrus vibe then dries down to a smooth woody green scent that lasts. This is a cologne that will soon be in my collection, bottom line
nopasho doesn't need any help.
he has point out what many people, like myself, think about this fragrance and chanel.
thank him for his detailed review!
if you don't agree him, doesn't mean that he needs help, you just have different opinion.
CAUTION: LONG UPDATED REVIEW. IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO READ AND YOU CAN'T STAND SOME CRITIC THOUGHTS ON THE RECENT CHANELS, SKIP THIS!
Sad but true: The perfumery division of Chanel has lost it. It pains me to utter these words. It is not Heidi Klum's 'In fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out', but the fragrance version: 'One day it is all about making great fragrances, and the next day it is all about making money.' And producing meh's to reap in money selling dud fragrances with the name 'Chanel'. Sad, sad, sad.
Not only seems the beautiful bottle of the women's 'Coco Noir' to contain a dud fragrance (I've smelled a tester: a weak Coco Mademoiselle', and that is put mildly) in a gem bottle, this 'Bleu' is also a meuh-mwah fragrance in a great looking bottle. And that's the problem with Chanel perfumes these days: it is all package/outside impression and not substance and intrinsic quality of the fragrance itself. It is like the bottle is more important than the fragrance. Great bottles with middle of the road fragrances in it. The house that gave us perfumery masterpieces like 'Chanel 5', '22', 'Coco', 'Antaeus', Egoiste'... now turns out duds like this. I didn't think that would ever happen. But the duds carry the same expensive Chanel price to pay in the shops as the Chanel-classics. It is a shame, really. But the Chanel owners are shameless about it. First 'Bleu', now 'Coco Noir'. Lower quality/creativity but for the same or higher price in the shop. Generic new disasters and too many flankers of existing frags to count. We're experiencing the death throes of a once magnificent perfume trail blazer...
I know, I know. I'm going against the grain here. This review will not reap many balloons. But when I think it's bad, I say it too. I will not win may symptathy votes here, but at least I'm honest. This won the perfume industry orchestrated 'Fifi Award 2011' as 'best male scent'. I think I know why and you know why. I guess it has nothing to do with this fragarnce and all with sponsoring and money...
If I write glowing positive reviews and stay true to myself, I also have to tell honestly if I don't like a frag and certainly why I don't like it. I find this a dud and a 'meh frag' and a 'Chanel-unworthy' drugstore-like fragrance that in no way deserves the high price tag fetched to it.
Chanel is not a fail safe 'magical perfume house' anymore that can do no wrong. It can also release two fragrances ('Bleu' and now 'Coco Noir') that are a messy collection of all contemporary 'in' fragrance notes, throw them together without any vision or sense of perfumery craftmanship (they used to put this above all, even money) and get away with it on the strength of the 'Chanel' name. 'Bleu by CHANEL!'If it would have been 'Bleu' by Shirley Wilson from Butte, Montana, everybody would cry without any hesitation: 'Stinker!!!'. But hey, it is 'Chanel', so it MUST be good. Because we PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR IT. So it IS good.
The last years the Chanel firm and certainly the once so prestigious perfume division, has changed into an über commercial money spinner, virtually parasiting on the 'Chanel'-name where marketing and image are key and all the rest -the quality of new fragrances included- dispensable.
To follow the legendary 'Egoiste'(1993) and decent 'Allure pour Homme' (1999) but recently reformulated, with this disaster, is insulting for the faithful Chanel fragrance buyers. Anyway. Nose-on-duty for this runner-of-the-mill was the once Chanel fragrance-pillar Jacques Polge, who obviously had a bad day when churning out this scrubber to fulfill his contractual obligations. Chanel the perfume house, is dying a slow death and 'Bleu' is one of the meh-frags that will fittingly be sprayed at the funeral. Sad really and an insult to famous male fragrances who preceded it: 'Egoiste', the great 'Antaeus'...
Compared with those great fragrances, 'Bleu' is not only 'meh' but a generic run of the mill fragrance, clearly playing out the 'Chanel' name and hoping that poor souls will buy this automatically because there is 'Chanel' printed on it. But let's be objective here and look at the notes.
Labdanum, nutmeg, ginger, sandalwood, patchouli, mint, jasmine, grapefruit, citruses, vetiver, incense, cedar and pink pepper.
A first for a Chanel fragrance: it has no fragrance pyramid. Spares money. It is a collection of fragrance notes thrown together. Imagine all these conflicting fragrance notes together and you're in perfume hell. Resinous labdanum, sharp ginger, pungent patchouli, hot nutmeg, sweet sandalwood, icy mint, indolic jasmine, bitter grapefruit, sour lemon, green vetiver, ashen incense, woody cedar, cowardly pink pepper. Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel will be turning in her grave. Where some great creations can produce magic with all notes on the same level without a pyramid (think Serge Lutens), here it is a real mess! So when you apply this on your skin you get all these notes and everything mixes into an embarrassing mess after a few minutes. A war on your skin. Fighting fragrance notes. Conflicting accords... It is the olfactory equivalent of a shifting sauce in the kitchen or a crème bruleé that doens't gell in the patisserie or browning vegetables in the garden right before the rotting stage or minced meat where the butcher grinds in all the leftovers together. Here they throw all possible 'in' notes together, hope for the best and pray to godmother Coco that it will turn out not too bad. Well this turns out awful, just awful! And sadly the disappointing sales numbers confirm this. You can't sell sh*t as 'a Chanel'. Pardon my french. Even men can smell when it is a loser of a fragrance.
Mint together with grapefruit together with pink pepper together with incense together with ginger together with sambac Jasmine together with labdanum, with nutmeg and patchouli and citrus and sandalwood... Enough already! Where is that Maalox or Pepto-Bismol when you really need it? And bring on the Imodium too! They took all the 'in' fragrance notes and just put mixed them together. That's it. The result is a bad meal that causes the olfactory equivalent of stomach acid and heartburn. And afterwards diarrea and guilt that you ate this stuff or bought this bottle. You need a whiff of 'Coco' or 'Egoiste' to make the stench of 'Bleu' disappear'. This is bad, vile and above all: Chanel unworthy.
Throwing everything together is also less time consuming and so cheaper to fabricate a frag with all the notes poured together on the same level instead of painstakingly and time consumingly create three levels that play into each other. Like they used to do at Chanel. With 'Bleu' it is the literally cheaper option 'all notes together in one pot and stew,'. I get that feel with 'Bleu' it is also a contracually 'must do'.
The heart of once maitre-parfumeur Polge is not really into it. It must have been his job to create as cheap a frag as possible. Because all the money went to the bottle. Like with 'Coco Noir' apparently. And to oblige his accountant-bosses who don't know a perfume masterpiece from a scrubber, he delivered this stinker. As a 'F... you' or better: 'Va te faire foutre!' to the accountants that have taken over the Chanel Palace. Polge who created masterpieces like 'Coco' must be deeply unhappy with the turn of events and the money men taking control. This, together with the dud 'Coco Noir', is his way of taking revenge. 'You want a cheap mess? I'll make a cheap mess. Pay the pr boys enough money to massage with pr money -that would by the way better be spent on research and development- potential clients into buying a bottle, make this dud win a prize, but in the long run, these short sighted politcs will kill the Chanel perfume house. Sadly.
OK. What does it this smell like? Like a dozen 'lemony fresh' male fragrances in a row but with more irritant notes that don't fit into the freshness and make it gag-material. It is like eating 'Lobster a l'Amoricane' and pouring ketchup over it, and wash it all down with Coca Cola. Or eating real caviar and putting mayo over it. Or over cooked pasta, fake olive oil, gran padano sold as real parmeggiano, bunga bunga parties as politics. Or drinking real Veuve Cliquot champagne and pouring some berry or vanilla syrup in it to make it taste 'sweeter'. A money saving, nose friendly tip: you can buy a better, more clear and linear fresh fragrance for a tenth of the price of 'Bleu'.
What do you get when you apply 'Bleu' on the skin? I'll describe it how it smelled on my skin. My bottle is already sold on ebay, by the way. First you get the sour-bittery grapefruit combined with ginger. Hmmm! And together with this Laurel and Hardy in perfume-land, it gets sourer with the lemon rearing its soury head and at the same time the ashes-like incense and cool icy mint that mix with the grape-fruit-lemon-ginger. Buono appetito! A few seconds later the pink pepper, vetiver, patchouli and woody labdanum strike and turn this mess into an almost gag-fest. A votre santé! The final blow to this full gag fest is delivered by sweet sandalwood and the dry cedar. What a cocktail!
Seriously, if this fragrance combo was presented to the people of 'Proctor and Gamble' to use in a dishwater product, it would be rejected because of being 'totally unpalatable'. On paper these notes may sound original and creative. In reality put together , the result simply stinks, it scrapes and screetches. There is no harmony at all, no roundness, no collaboration between these notes. It is a clashing mess of totally mismatched notes. Aqua Velva, Old spice and Fabergè Brut are masterpieces compared to this. But it has the 'Chanel' stamp on it, agreed. So some Chanel-fans will like it and will call me crazy fo daring to critice a 'Chanel', mark my words.
This is a relentless sour-sharp-smoky-woody assault of the worse kind. Like you barbecue half cut lemons dipped in spicy BBQ-sauce. I think, in concentrated form it could be used as a highly efficient tear gas. Shortly said this is one big sorry mess. Unworthy of Chanel. And that is said by a great admirer of most Chanel fragrances: Coco, Nr 5, Nr 22, Egoiste, Antaeus, Allure, Chance... But this is totally out of sync and quality-level with those timeless masterpiece perfumes. 'Bleu' is a disaster to be honest. I can imagine, if you blind bought this and paid mucho dollares based on the fame of Chanel you'll be very dissapointed. And mad at me for pointing this out. Don't shoot the messenger. And it will also be hard to admit that your hard earned cash has been spent on such a 'Chanel stinker'. Never thought I would have to write that: 'A Chanel Stinker'! I blind bought a bottle based on the Chanel fame. Stupid me. And my verdict is: run away to the hills and hide.
If 'Coco Noir' is of the same level, they should consider stop making new fragrances at all and just keep the old ones as they were, without reformulations. They have such a treasure trove of great classics that the owners of the Chanel firm, the American family Wertheimer, can become even more rich that way and spare the cost of putting out new fragrances.
Gentlemen, enjoy your new Chanel!
simply awesome... will get it over and over again
I really need to pick up another bottle. Bleu for the summer nights and Blanche for the bright summer days.. so perfect!!
Even though this perfume is for men I love it. My dad has it and sometimes when he doesn't see I spray it on my wrist and it just gives me this fresh powerful feeling.
this perfume is A+. masterpiece. well done
It smells much better on the paper than on my skin.
Definitely an up-and-runner signature scent for an indecisive fragrance lover like myself.
Spicy, fresh, aquatic, sweet, fizzy, masculine, classic, new.
I had this cologne and enjoyed the scent but for the price it just isnt worth it,hardly smell it after an hour.
Simply Masterpiece when you wear this it makes you feel like you have charisma to others . and this perfume has a character of its own (deep) .

I use it as a toilette refreshener. Got it as a present. On my skin terrible.
I just tested this in duty free store today, the opening is quite similar with Chanel Allure Homme Sport, but after 15 mins, surprisingly I found the scent has changed to somewhat close to CK Eternity Summer 2012, but Bleu is comparatively softer, maybe because there is no melon inside.
As I loved & crazy for Allure Homme Sport, to me Bleu is not so special and could not give me an impression and feeling of elegance and scent complexity, so I would pass on this one, and actually there are lots of better frags at this price range.
مردانه سرد و تلخ
فوق العاده با کلاس و با پرستیژ
بیشتر رسمی ولی برای استفاده روزانه هم خوبه
ماندگاری و پخش بو هم در حد خوب
خیلی دوستش دارم
At first, I thought it wasn't a good release from the Chanel house, it was too ordinary for me, but, after several times of testing it, I actually came to really like it. Very versatile/elegant. The grapefruit note makes it very pleasant and kind of tasty. I can see this as an everyday office or college scent.
The opening is very lemony and minty, reminds me a bit of Azzaro pour homme and in both of them I find the mint (anise in azzaro) too sharp, although more so in Azzaro pour homme. As time goes by, the lemon and the mint get more subdued and a woody aromatic slightly spicy scent comes forward, the scent gets less sharp, softer and to me more pleasant. Overall though I do not like this scent but that is just me, because I do not find it worse than other masculine scents that other people like a lot.
This is a decent fresh aquatic, however, the price is a bit too high for what you get. The distinction between this and the thousands of other aquatics on the market are subtle, but there though.
This is the only scent I have complimented another man on when I first smelt it on a work colleague. Absolutely love it. Very sexy, fresh and unusual. Every time I encounter this guy at work, I love the way he smells; even though he's not super good-looking, it massively increases his sex-appeal. Aping the same effect, I bought a bottle duty-free on a flight to St Lucia...and do love wearing it. But I only wear it occasionally and in casual settings, as it's a bit too popular in the UK right now. A lot of City lads in London are wearing it. Nothing wrong with that: it suits them and works particularly well on a young, confident guy. I just want to smell a bit more unique (snob!)
It seems to project best on masculine men who have a strong natural odour, and lasts well, though the dry-down is a bit of letdown compared with the wonderful opening. I detect a whiff of mustiness after a few hours. But this is a minor criticism of what is otherwise a very accomplished, very pleasant fragrance. I think it is superior to most designer aquatics on the market, and some niche ones too. A touch of affordable luxury

*note, this is a review, I'm just getting to the point*
So, my friend had the opportunity to do a meet & greet with the new famous boyband One Direction, (July 1, 2012) which we've been fans of since the X-Factor UK. In interviews, one of the members, Harry always said his favorite cologne was Bleu de Chanel cologne. Being the fangirls we are, when we were doing casual shopping we made sure to find it. I told her to remember the scent (we thought it was an okay smell, beautiful on the paper but just..awkward on the skin) to see if he could "work it". Right after she met them she called saying he smelled EXACTLY like it only as if it was touched by an angel.
To me by itself, (or worn by a NORMAL person, haha) it just smells like a classic scent most men have worn once in their life. Almost like AXE in a way, too nostalgic. 3/5.
~ xx
very good longevity, nice fragrance from Chanel. Little sporty but still elegant. 8/10
This stuff smells exactly like when you walk into Hollister/abercrombie. If youve ever smelled Colden by A&F, I swear it almost smells identical minus a little sweetness. Honestly walking around I smell like the entrace of an abercrombie store.
In my personal opinion, its somewhat of an annoying scent to me. I want to get it off of me sometimes, but at the same time ill go sniff the bottle all the time haha. Its like its good, but you wish it were better/different.
few warnings, smells 'young" to me(i.e. 16 yr olds), is very popular, and may be headache material for your office coworkers.
Great scent a bit too strong citrus opening but it fades a way in a bit aquatic woody with a bit rosy in the background, but stil very very very pleasant smell. Great longevity 6-8 hours 10+ even possible. It doenst smell like YSL Libre which I also own thats more a aquatic. While Bleu is something damn special. If you spray it on clothes it stays for a very long time.
For the people who says it smells just like Axe/Lynx they are a bit right it smells in the beginning exactly like the discontiuned Axe/Lynx Rise a 2010 limited edition. But who cares great scent with great longevity and the girls are mad about it.Highly recommend must have for any men.
Love this stuff...
For an all around fragrance, or "signature" scent, so far i have found nothing better.
I was not impressed by this fragrance at all. It started off nice with a very fresh, water smell. Then it went downhill for me into a cheap, sweet, very flat middle that actually gave me a headache. I couldn't wait to get this stuff off my skin. It may have been something with my skin chemistry but I just didn't like it at all. Anyone feel the same way?
Needed time with the frag but now i have an opinion. This stuff is great. Lasted 10+ hours on me and it still projected 10+ inch away from neck with one only spray. The initial spray is a fresh blast of grapefruit and lemon with a background of ginger. I don't really see a mid notes but it dries down to a incense smell that is really intriguing. People say it won't work in winter but i beg to differ. This is versatile as hell and can be used all seasons day and night. A lot of people dislike this fragrance because it is generic and boring. To each his own, but this cologne is definitely not boring. Not a lot of summer fragrances last, but this one just keeps going. Generic? Maybe. Boring? Hell No! If you're considering a bottle, get one. Watch out for eBay due to being very skepitcal, especially on chanel fragrances.
It dries down on my skin to a fresh scent with a certain smokiness. The scent is pleasant and it may garner some compliments as well; but it's really generic! It seems like they got parts of Euphoria (by cK) and parts of Lacoste Essential and mixed them with some other things (!) in a new product called Bleu de Chanel.
Has good longevity and projection, but smells a little bit synthetic on my skin. Honestly, I expected more from Chanel! This perfume does not deserve the brand neither it does worth the price!
It gets 5 out of 10 IMO.
Bleu reminds me of Polo Black and now L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Sport, but Issey is much lighter and without the incense that makes me headache. Bleu is elegant, it smells like a rich man. When I use looks awake.
WOW!!!! Awesome fresh fragrance!!!!.... I love Versace's Man Eau Fraiche, and it's my sig frag, I took I wlk/leap of faith, and used Versace eau as my base right out of the shower towel dried, sprayed a little Aruba coconut from BBW, then did my ritual deodorant..... then sprayed this on....FRESH FRESH COOOOOL FRESH.....
I love this scent. Im a woman, and I see this as a pretty versatile fragrance for both men and woman. Cant be bothered that it is a 'male' scent, it smells more femeinine on me imo.
i completely agree with ewalk. This fragrance is such a great smell. I don't understand all the bad reviews. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions but to me this scent smells like an elegant classy fresh smell. It's not generic to me because it's smells expensive fresh. Not cheap fresh. First time I smelled it was on my brother and I was surpeised because I usually hate his fragrances. (colors, drakar) although drakar is a good scent as well. When I smelled this on him, I had to have a bottle, luckily the gf hooked me up with this bad boy for XMAS. Love it in the summer or on a crisp cool day. Versatile, inoffensive, classy, fresh.
i'm just curious if this bleu smells like allure homme sport.? because i just buy AHS last week. i dont want to spend much money on similar smells fragrance. please help.
This is such an underrated fragrance. People don't give this frag the credit that is due, mainly because they had high hopes based on the house that it's from. This is an awsome frag, compliments out the waazoo, longevity, and it leaves a nice scent trail.
Alright, let me set some things straight:
I had sampled this numerous times on paper and was far from impressed. I thought this was Chanel's weak attempt at creating a fresh, aquatic fragrance that was geared for a younger audience. I had never given this fragrance second though; however, a friend of mine had just bought this and I went to their house and OH MY. This was something special. I had to go to the local department store and try Bleu de Chanel on my skin. On paper this fragrance sucks. But when I sprayed it on myself it was quite unique. I wouldnt call this fragrance aquatic by any mean. Its quite clean, but in a dirty way. It settles down to a smoky, clean scent, that in my opinion could be worn year round. A very versatile cologne. I typically stick away from the fresh scents and choose oriental or gourmand fragrances due to the development, but after wearing L'eau de Issey, Gucci Pour Homme II, YSL Libre, and various other fresh scents, this one is a must. I have around 55 colognes, and this will be another added to my collection. Well done, Chanel.

Bleu de Chanel ... Be Unexpected
I adore this one. It's funny cause people say it's not original but can't list something that Bleu reminds of.
Ok, so I have read that many people don't like this. I LOVE THIS FRAG!!! I get a lot of compliments from the ladies especially. Funny thing, a good friend of mines is actually upset at me because his girlfriend said "Damn you smell so good" while wearing this frag. I told him he should buy it because his girl likes it. Great scent!!
Well,
Chanel is a great brand actually, they never make a usual perfume, it's always new smells.
This perfume is just AMAZING.
It's very Decent, but it's a MATURE perfume , not good for young ppl, because it's mostly romantic and WINTER perfume.
But it's perfect , if you smell if you'll definitely get it, only if you looking for something unique, decent.
This scent is fine, it is actually a nice smell but what I call functional or more harshly boring. the fragance is not a puzzeler, it is more like a set and forget kind of aroma. if you are looking for a nice fragrance as a gift that wont offend anyone buy this for sure.
Am I alone in thinking that Bleu smells exactly like Axe body spray?
There is absolutely nothing unique or interesting about this spicy/citrus/woody scent. Nothing. It has no goal other than to sell itself to men and women who are scared to try something daring or different.
It belongs in a drug store's perfume case. Locked away at a cheaper price. Don't waste your money.
The brilliant ad campaign, which was once promising, only serves as a further annoyance given the whole project's less than unique offering.
Just because its Chanel doesn't mean its good.
This has smelled Amazing on every guy that has ever worn it around me. I dont smell grapefruit, to me it smells Blue like Marine or ocean like. I like scents like that. It does last long. I think its a nice sexy scent. If i had a boyfriend id buy it for him.
I will properly review after a couple more wearings...However, I must say that this is a rather generic fragrance! It smells like a really nice Adidas scent (a little citrus in the opening and then a warm nutmeg/incense/sandalwood combo to finish it out)...and for the price that the company is asking for it, it's a total rip off! Don't get me wrong, it's a good fragrance, but not amazing, or even great! It is quite hard to dislike or find offensive though...it's a great safe-buy with mass-market, generic appeal!
Update: I'm not going to stray from my initial claims, but this fragrance is a bit more complex than I first gathered! This "dark" juice starts off with a lovely, bright, cool, and zesty graprefruit/mint/lemon/ginger combo(which lasts but 5 minutes). This beautiful opening is quickly overrun by a very potent dusty, woody, and smokey combination of incense/vetiver/nutmeg/pepper which kind of mucks the fresh opening up. It's kind of like when a nice kid gets into his first bar brawl...and is never quite the same again! This "mid" phase lasts quite some time...about 4 or 5 hours, and it shifts several times to reveal a myriad of combinataions of dry woods, smoke, bitterness, greeness, and even a bit of wet muskiness. The real drydown of labdanum/cedar/patchouli/sandalwood kicks in around 5 to 6 hours and lasts a good 2 hours before fading into a skinscent, but in these last hours, this fragrance presents itself as a very musky, dry, and woody scent. I know there is no musk listed, but it reminds me of many musky drydowns I have experienced.
So, this is a more complex scent, but it isn't anything grand or worthy of the pricetag...maybe $30 for a FB but not a cent more! The scent is unique, but its genericness comes from the type of overused ingredients found in a hundred other woody-spicy scents currently on the market. I would give this commonly good juice a predictable 7 out of 10!
I understand what Mariah Carey had said "why are you invading my space?" this fragrance is just like that invading.
Its definately unforgivable. It tapdances on your face without an apology. Very strong and certainly offensive under some circustances. Its one of those fragrances that doesn't smell clean. You put your nose up to it and frown or go "ewwe". lol. I can see what they were going for but, when I smell this, I immediately think of Unattractive Turkish guy thats trying way too hard.
its smells i little like sean johns unforgivable but better this is a very good choose to get for a gift
This is what I call my Chanel for Bleu Jeans fragrance and I will tell you why. There have been quite a few reviews below decrying Bleu de Chanel as being disappointing. Not up to the standards of pervious Chanel scents. So this is my experience with the fragrance.
While shopping a month or so back for a new Chanel I picked up Egoiste Platinum (see my review on that if you are interested) and while I was looking at the various Chanels for men to expand my horizons and add to my one and only Pour Monsieur the salesperson asked if she could spay some Bleu on a card for me. I said sure, why not? I could take in maybe one more sniff before my nose closed up shop. Well, that one little sniff blew my Bleu socks off! I almost bought it on the spot but had already set my shopping limit for the month. So I filed my Bleu card away for a future purchase.
Last Saturday it was so incredibly beautiful here in San Francisco and on a gorgeous day lots of San Franciscan naturally hightail it for our magnificent shopping district around Union Square. I was moved by sun and blue skies to visit our Chanel Boutique. I dressed for the occasion since I am old fashioned and think one should never leave the house on a shopping expedition looking less than smashing. Black Jeans, black cashmere turtle neck, black spit shined loafers, chunky steel bracelet, a not so chunky yet stylish gunmetal watch and a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers. One quick check in the mirror and I set off for my adventure.
I was in and out of Chanel so fast that the door on Maiden Lane didn’t have a chance to close. Then I popped over to have a light lunch at the Sir Francis Drake and following that headed home to un-box my little treasure. I really got a kick out of the bottle, a kind of film noir blue black moderne take on the No.5 bottle design with a really nifty cap that is magnetized so that it clicks back on in the same position with the locked double C’s always facing front perfectly. A nice touch don’t you think? I sprayed my wrist and sniffed…. Hum? Then I sprayed my collar bone. “That’s odd, it’s kind of….hum?” I thought. And a final spritz behind my ears.
It was not at all what it had seemed in the store the month before. What had happened? Where was that oh my god sensation? It was nice, it was interesting, and it was perfectly fine. But something was missing. As the day wore on I discovered it has some wonderful aspects about it. I love how the incense, ginger and peeper all work together and it lasted on me a reasonable 5 to 6 hours. Yet still I was vaguely disappointed. During the week at work it drew rave reviews. And that puzzled me. THEY loved it; they wanted to know what it was that made it so unique and exciting. Why did they find it so wonderful and I found it to be just …fine? To me it wasn’t the magic Chanel we all dream of, what we hope to find in each new Chanel offering. It was just dare I say it, a work-a-day Chanel.
Then it hit me. It smelled just the same as it had in the store; the only thing that had changed was me. I had been obsessing over that smell for over a month, and in that time I had turned that sense memory of Bleu into something it could not live up to. No perfume could. I had let the aura and history of “Chanel” out Chanel the Chanel! It was fine and I liked it just fine, and that is fine. Not every Chanel or any other perfume house can hit it out of the park each time. But what Chanel did with Bleu de Chanel was make a good everyday perfume. Something nice to throw on when you feel like being casual and elegant around your frayed edges, like a pair of comfortable blue jeans. They fit well and you know exactly what to expect from them, and they are classics in their own way. So that is why I call my Bleu de Chanel my Chanel for blue jeans.
Four Gold Stars. ****
Bought this yesterday and I have to agree with most people on here and say it smells amazing. It reminds me of A&F - Colden, its the ginger and citrus notes that give me that impression. This however projects and has lasted longer than that did.
So far the sillage is good, its noticeable but not a headache producer. I have had one compliment already, just the usual 'ooo, someone smells nice'.
I am glad I purchased this. So far all the boxes are ticked for scent, longevity and a good sillage.
Results:
Scent: 8.5/10
Longevity: 8/10
Sillage: 9/10
Elagant fragrance, women like it...a lot, but to me is boring boring boring and not original at all. Bought a bottle but i dont think i will buy this one ever again!
Bleu De Chanel is a sporty fragrance that is quite generic in terms of what's already available out in the market. However, it does the generic sporty scent very well. If I had to compare Bleu to a similar fragrance, Armani Code Sport comes directly to mind. Despite it's similarities, Bleu on my skin comes off as more sophisticated, well rounded and clean, whereas Code Sport can sometimes smell a little dirty on my skin.
I would also like to note that Bleu De Chanel has given me more compliments than any other fragrance I've worn. In fact, the compliments I've received while wearing Bleu were all from women. Yep, women just seem to love this scent.
Hello, i am currently invested into this cologne, and so far, it's great. it seems to last on my skin for awhile, and goes well with my personality. I have yet to wear it out in a social setting yet, so no compliments to rave on about. But personally, i enjoy it
Excellent perfume or more than excellent that s amazing one.
I wear it for a couple of weeks now and got great compliments. This is my perfume to go with!
10/10
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS FRAGRANCE, IS MY FAVORITE CURRENTLY I DONT UINDERSTAND HOW A HUMAN PERSON CAN DISLIKE IT, BUT BLESSINGS TO ALL OF US.
,, truly am chanel fragrance lover but this one is a big letdown for me what i can only smell is a combination of many incomaptible frags together squeezed inton this bottle called (bleu) .
HEADACHE!!!
This one is my signature scent. Ok so I've been wearing it for a month and I actually love this! It doesn't last very long on my skin though so I carry around an atomizer with me if I'm out longer.
Anyways the opening is very fresh, unique, and classy. I get a sweet opening and projection on this is quite strong within the first hour or two. I can usually smell myself after applying, I do one spray to the base of the neck, one behind each ear lobe, and one on the chest and I'm all set. On the dry down, I get the smell of incense but to be honest it just smells cheap.
The first time I bought this fragrance, the dry down smelled metallic. However after wearing this for a while, the smell started to get cheap. This is however my signature scent though, I love the opening but the dry down is probably the only thing I'm not liking here.
Overall I give this an 8/10.
i have watched a review of this EDT on YouTube, so i thought i try it.
Smell nice, but i wouldn't like to wear it much often, lest i would get used to the scent..
So i wear it alternately with my other frag/colognes.
All i can say is "Bleu" always surprises you.
Smells fresh and clean like "just-came-out-of-the-shower"
This is the BEST perfume everrr!!!!!! I can't live without it! :))))) :D
Chanel nowadays is definitively pointing towards the mass/safe/"sporty" fragrances and you can see this by their new releases, specially with this one, Bleu de Chanel. It starts with a blast of sweet grapefruit, a very well done one mixed with some ginger.
A safe and not innovative line crossed by Polge that in the final analysis it smells good and this is what matters to me. This is indeed a generic (and refreshing!) fragrance created by Chanel, but at least they do it in a very good way, with competence, instead of other houses these days...
This is 'MrAverageFrag' in a very blue bottle.
Citrus with a mix of pepper and ginger up top.
Herbal/mint and a strange mix of not-too-well-executed herbs + more pepper/spice in the mids.
And a tame incense/more pepper + cedar and vetiver at the base. Vetiver and ginger again? Seriously?
Average notes, fine if not overwhelming execution, high price = less than average frag.
I was admittedly very excited about this, hoping for a 'different' aquatic/oakmoss type of frag, but instead Chanel played safe. In a world where Gold rules everything, what do you expect?
5/10. Buy the Cologne Sport instead, far more focus on quality lemons, spice and woods, rather than a lazy attempt at 'the new Swiss Army Knife Frag'.
The best things in life are not for free and bleu de chanel is the one of them.If you go for the best, you have to pay.Based on the personal experience. The man has to smell like a man because women feel the real man.The best fragrance on the market.Ihad a little discount on this one whith 150 ml in a price of 100ml
although it is well known that chanel doesn't sell cheap and there are no discounts on their products.
Part of my wardrobe.
My best friend wears this and he smells so good! Its really suitable for both day and nightwear. Also the middle and base notes linger giving you a nice wiff every now and then. REALLY GOOD
I absolutely love this fragrance! I have many favorite colognes, expensive niche, and hard to find colognes.
I find BdC to be a very clean scent. Not fresh, actually smells like dirty, dense cocktail of citrus...
the top notes are the best, But during the hot summer days, once your body heats up you can still smell the citrus through out the whole life of the fragrance.
It's one of those scents that attracts girls ad draws them in. however I have a bad feeling about this, because I think it's going to be too popular in the next couple of years like Acqua di Gio!
Wow, after read all this reviews practically you guys left me without words, I'm not sure if it's because it belong from Chanel, or you don't really like this fragance.
Anyway I will say that to me is not unpleasant smell, clean, crispy, and citrusy, nothing great from a house that you expect "UNIQUE", but something that you can wear on a regular day of office or regular Sunday to cook some steaks at home!, I like it.
I work @ Beirut Bar and when "One million" was released almost 1 of every 5 lawyers wear this
And Now the same with "Bleu de Chanel", I dislike "OM" but I love the smell of "BdC"
It took three seperate skintests and a few test strips over a period of several months before I finally purchased Bleu de Chanel. The reason was twofold - did I REALLY like it? And if I did, I wouldn't be buying it from E-bay ( sooo many fakes out there ) so would be paying full whack from the highstreet.
So to my own thoughts on Bleu. Opens very Marine/Aquatic but in a very 'airy' manner. The citruses and labdanum are very carefully handled here, and several good spritzes will not cause a large 'pop' of fragrance. As Bleu develops, the ginger and nutmeg very gradually appear, then later incense and a very, very mild vetiver. This last half of the life of Bleu also holds the surely now patented 'Chanel Powder Effect', although in this case again, it is very mild.
As it turned out, I did eventually purchase Bleu, and yes I paid regular retail money for the pleasure. I find it a really comforting fragrance, very easy to wear, and when applied in large enough doses, reveals a slowly shifting spectrum of notes that keep Bleu interesting for the 7-8 hours it lasts.
All due respect to M. Polge and team, but I got some samples to try this out and, Wham! I was immediately transported to the beach at the Pines on Fire Island in 1972 or the Gay Bars in New Hope or Provincetown, same era. Fun times but sensory illness.
This stuff is like a cross between Canoe and Pierre Cardin...absolutely all encompassing, choking and ultimately forcing me to take a shower.
I love this one. Chanel does not disappoint. Yes this one is generic, but it's unique in its own way. I didn't think much of it at first, but I started liking it after few wears. This one does very well in the warmer weather, but not so well in cooler weather. It smells different to me in cooler weather, but still nice. One of my favorites. Would recommend to anyone for everyday use.
9/10
Bleu de Chanel has nothing to do with blue fragrances nor with the fresh ones.
Just a bad chosen name. Word "Bleu" misleads here.
Actual colour of the bottle describes his character, smokey black.
This is full of incense, smokey, spicy, woody very macho fragrance.
Perfume and more balanced nature of the average and smell good overview

---This is Sexiness In a Bottle---
OMG!
A luxurious night time frag which will appeal to the lovers of Davidoff Cool water, and one which lasts a long time..
I applied 6 heavy sprays
0- 1 hours. 1 foot of great projection. This is 30% the same as Davidoff Cool Water with layers upon layers of luxurious soapiness/classy shampoo with an abundance of chemicals. I recently wore Cool Water and it has refreshed my memory of that scent and this has clearly the same smell to some extent, yet Bleu replaces Cool Water's intense mint note with a little lemon citrus and truck loads of 5 Star shampoo! I have had lots of compliments wearing this, including my wife who really likes it. Ages 25-40
1 -2 hours. Linear scent on the whole. 7 inch projection. Sexy to the opposite sex? I reckon so
2-6 hours. 2 inch projection, shame. Some spiciness pops in after 5 hours
6-9 hours. Close to the skin. Strong smokiness comes to the fore and takes over. Ages 28-45
I bought this on the advice from my wife, who thinks its lovely. It is good to see Chanel make frags for the younger audience, as on the whole, I find the majority of their frags too mature for my taste
Good
Sweet, aquatic with a hint of citrus. My skin brings out the spiciness in Bleu, making the scent more complex. Very wearable, versatile and beautiful. Bleu projects well yet not offensive even when being worn with a large amount of sprays. Unfortunately it doesn't last on my skin, however I don't mind resprayed it every now and then. Very beautiful scent.
I thought I liked this fragrance until the only two people that commented on it both told me I smelled like lemons. Not very good feedback for such and expensive cologne. Maybe just doesn't work with my body chemistry. Thumbs down for me.
Bleu de Chanel is a beautifully rich complex fragrance. Believe it or not I think this is an underrated perfume. The balance that Mr. Polge achieved is perfect. Jacques Polge is a master of his craft.
Bleu de Chanel is a fresh fragrance, it starts out dominated by strong yet a little bit fresh incense smell. The incense smell fades out within time leaving us with a citrusy and fresh spicy scent. Bleu de Chanel is an unoriginal and common fragrance, it doesn't present anything new to us and i have smelled many similar to it in my life. If you're looking for a sexy male fragrance i'd recommend TSAR by Van Cleef & Arpels which is much cheaper than Bleu.
very elegant but a dry skin like mine needs loats of it to have some smell on
awesome. i've tried this perfume and loved it very much. a unique, elegant one.
A good perfume, similar (to me) with Higher Energy Dior for men. 9/10.
sleek, mysterious, smoky, masculine, luxury, elegant, classy, modern, "bleu" not blue... Is how I describe the bottle... and the juice inside it
Did not grabbed me at al, very normal not expected that from mr.polge.
Of all Chanel's I used in the past decades this one is imo the most "regular" one.
That said i agree many men will like it as a save office scent.
I want personality in a scent. this one blends in the crowd.MAybe i need to try a tester again but im almost sure this one never will be in my top 10.
Ahh well i have chanel egoiste...
I agree with PSILOVEFRAGF. On my skin bleu does not seem as a fresh fragrance ( just the opening). the bottle alone screams a night out or cool weather fragrance. I get alot of incense with spices and some ginger. Its versatile, all season. but for my huge collection i will reserve this for fall or even winter. On my skin this last a good 7 to 9 hours. Great compliment getter. Well done Mr. Polge.
I wanted to get in an early review of this, mainly because I've been intrigued by it, reading all the reviews here. I wanted something fresh and yet spicy, so I spritzed a little on the back of my hand this evening at Macy's. I didn't sniff it right off, but waited for it to dry down a little.
I'll have to give it another try or two because I like it a lot. I never got the citrus at all, but perhaps that's because I let it dry down. What's left is a very luxurious smelling, woody-spicy aroma that I really like. I guess I missed the freshness too, but I don't care. I like it. I don't compare it to other popular fragrances out there because to me it's different. Bleu has a refined, elegant smell that reeks of class. I'll try it again soon to see if I can get more notes, but I'm satisfied so far.
Next Day: I'm sold on it. I bought some and have been wearing it all day. It's relaxing because it's not overpowering. I mean, I can put three sprays on my neck and it's not too much. I still don't get the top notes much, but I sure get the basenotes and the mid notes and they're delicious! I suspect people around me get more notes in the sillage. This stuff is all class, and just has a rich, deep aroma of cool woods and balmy incense. It just smells expensive--and by gosh, it is! You get what you pay for.
I get it now. It's stealthy, sneaky, a creeper fragrance. It allows you to engage a target without them suspecting or expecting it. It suits me just fine for that purpose.
I like a good "under the radar" scent and this one is mine now. I will use it sparingly until it's popularity fades a bit (I'm sure a ton of guys got this over the holidays) and then profile it more. Fortunately I have enough excellent choices in my collection to resist the temptation to overindulge in Bleu for now. Meet the Creeper.
Honestly, it's a good fragrance. It's generic, it's boring... who cares? Smells good and the girls usually like it... Of course there are better fragances but this one is well made and versatile. It's a good option if you aren't a "fragrance fanatic" and you are looking for a "signature scent".
Lacks projection and longevity but I believe on summer, sweating, you know, you can get better projection.
I don't own it, but if I find a "bargain" I will buy it.
I know, I know, it's very hard to see Chanel bargains but, sometimes, you can get some discount.
Imagine a perfume that smells like nothing. This is Bleu. Generic, boring, synthetic, a fragrance without a soul.
I got my second bottle of this wonderful fragrance for my birthday, 150 ml. this time. One of the best fragrances I have ever smelled. I'm wearing it on special occations only and feel great with it. Bleu de Chanel has its own character, charisma. Lasts all day/night long.
10/10 for me.
Love the beginning scent. Citrus or lemony smell and little woody. Soft but can be cloying if you spray more and two on your neck. At the drydown its ok but could be better. Good signature scent and got good versatility for day, night, clubbing, work, seasonal, ect. The main reason I got this was because women like it. Good to buy if you can get it for cheaper than 75 bucks for a 3.4 ounce.
I bought this for my husband for christmas. I though is smelled great on the card, on him ...eh. Not worth it, sometimes even a turnoff.
"Be unexpected" is the tagline for this fragrance - the even more surprised I was of how "unexpectedly" generic it is. It really embodies what could be the stereotypical men's fragrance.
That said, Bleu de Chanel is very well blended and I think it is quiet appealing. On my skin: A fresh start (mainly citruses with a bit of mint) and a warm drydown (soft incense and cedar rounded off with floral accents).
I would recommend this to men who are looking for a well composed, typical men's perfume.
this fragrance smells nicely done, and the woods are put together well but it is not overly unique compared to allure and allure sport
I just wanna say oh mi gosh! I found this one yesterday from my personal haircut. This is a great smoky scent and spicy warming. It so soft and warm. Absolutely crush for incense, ginger and vetiver. I don't care about citruses at all. I really love this one just like a love at first sight. Feel so good. My next fragrance. Put it on my wish list!
Should I be ashamed of wearing this fragrance as a woman? This perfume leaves me with a fresh and highly addictive scent that gets along beautifully with my ph.
Smells great on my beau aswell!
-In addition to my 1st review of this fragrance-
There was a perfume I smelled once many years ago. It was called "Captain" by Molyneux (I couldn't remember the name until today:)) which is extremely close ( and more pleasant as well) to this one.
Of course I could be wrong (but that's rare, my nose has the memory size of an elephant) so if someone could verify this it would be nice.
an advice: if you absolutely need to buy something "Bleu", go for the after shave lotion. It really smells better than the perfume!
Nothing special. Nothing original. The average scent, which will be quickly forgotten...
When I first smelled Bleu in a department store I was quick to shrug it off as bland an unimpressive. But then I got a bottle and began to wear it, and after several wearings I understood how good a fragrance this actually is.
I would recommend Bleu to any guy looking for a quality, fresh fragrance that can be worn comfortably anywhere at anytime and still portray class with a certain degree sophistication.
Thumbs up.
Smells nice. Does NOT worth the money.
This has to be one of the best colognes I have smelled in a while. At first, I did not like this cologne at all!!! I felt it didn't stand out, and had similar notes to other basic Blue (Bleu)colognes. But, I realized I based my judgement off the card that's spray at the retail stores.
So, I tried it again, this time on my skin, and wow!!!! After hours passed, the scent changes for the better. At first, I get a fresh lemon scent, then I feel it dries down towards a wonderful tea/incent scent. The longevity of the cologne I found last more than 6 hours on me (stays on clothing till the next day), and actually lasted overnight (8 hours of sleep). Sillage is great at first spray, but then gets closer to the skin after an hour or so. But, these are based upon my body reaction to the cologne. Everyone is different.
I have become obsessed with this smell, but I only use it sparingly. Chanel does any amazing job with this scent.
I love Blue by Chanel. I know its not for everyone and I am glad. too often a new scent comes out and everyone has it (Le Male)
I was walking around Milan after my meetings late in the year 2010 and saw the Blue add in the window with "new fragrance from Chanel" written. Just what I was looking for something new. less than 5 mins later I was walking out with my purchase, thats all it took. I instanly fell in love with this new addition to the line of Chanel EDT for men. I got the fresh sent of lemon and citrus right away but there was something else I could not define that made it feel luxurious and refine. I cold see it on me with my suit and tie. Sure enough it has been a hit for me. I get complements all the time. and yes I do see people lifting their nose to get a better hit of the scent.
I was afraid to the silage because I usually don't like having my cologne projecting radius around me, but with this one it really is a treat. i have recognized it on others and realize that it is different. My son wheres it on occasion and I notice that it is spicier on him than on me. I get more of an incense with citrus. The dry down is down right sexy! what you would expect a man to smell like at the end of the day, a balmy, jasmine, vetiver, soft woody hint.
I had a salesman try pushing this on me (must be an enormous markup) and I did not care for the fragrance. Started out citrusy and fresh and after a few minutes incense/sandalwood came forward to mingle with the citrus. Over the next couple hours the citrus receeded and florals/jasmine came forward for several hours making for an extremely feminine fragrance. I certainly would never purchase this one to wear myself.
If you are looking for a fresh smelling fragrance without the floral/feminine notes then Blue Seduction is a much better choice and a whole lot cheaper!
This is a fragrance that completely takes on the characteristics of whomever’s wearing it and smells different every time. I smelled this on someone over the weekend and was shocked to find that it was this. I typically don’t like this Chanel and cannot understand what all the fuss is about. This time though it smelled quite nice. I’ll give it a try.
A very high quality and original mix.
I just can't understand why some find it mainstream and just because it has many shared notes with other fragrances doesn't mean that it is generic.
It is very well balanced although it has some contrasting notes in it.
A very versatile and modern fragrance for a man to wear throughout the year.
Altogether nothing special. I love the opening but don't really like the dry down. Its masculine and probably long lasting but i don't smell this on me after one hour. :P High quality ingredients and well blended notes makes this frag quite well-done.
i have heard a lot about this perfum. i enter a perfum store at Lagos airport and got a spray. first 20min was not impressive at all, i left the perfum store, my flight was delayed for another hour. i sat down and was browsing the internet, suddenly i started smelling something very beautiful, i thought it was the lady that just sat beside me, shortly after that she left and i was still smelling it, i remembered i tested a perfum and i smell my wrist and discovered something AMAZING! it was time to board, i rushed down to the store to buy it. the lady sitting next to me inside the plane asked me what i was wearing after we came down.

Projection: 9/10
Scent Quality: 8/10
Longevity: 7Hrs
Review: I usually spray on my skin but could not get the original scent which made me to buy it, later after 7month i tried it out on my shirt and the scent came out a lot better. Its best for winter
The opening on this one is nice...smells like a beefed up "sport" scent. Citrusy lemon, a bit of the pepper, the patchouli and jasmine are noticeable also. Synthetic, reminiscent of allure homme sport. Lasts about 15 minutes. The heart has this funky salty/metallic "aqua" vibe. I guess that's where the "bleu" comes from. Really hate this part. The citrus fades and after about 2 hours the nicest part of the fragrance kicks in with the incense coming through mixed with the ginger. If you could skip right to this part the cologne would be awesome.
Monstrous sillage and above average longevity (at least 6 hours). Winter scent. DO NOT OVERSPRAY.
After getting this last year as a birthday present and initially thinking it smelled ok, I was hoping it would grow on me as I wore it. I have to say that's not the case. As many people here have already said, it smells "pedestrian"...it's almost like they decided, let's put together a bunch of scents that smell great and see what happens. It's way too busy, too many notes that don't go together in my opinion. It's very heavy and probably wears better in a drier climate (france).
Surprisingly, this one gets a lot of compliments. I don't know why but women like the way this smells. And so with that, I will keep trying to make myself like this one.
simply awesome
smelled a lot of scents at macys and this jumped out at me as one of the best and its really a well done scent with great woodsy masculine notes to it and chanel definatley is a great scent line
This one is a pure example how far the synthetics can go nowdays.Would not be bad if it was some 20 euro cologne but it's not the case here. All we get here is a solid packing and overestimate pretension. The same trick plays Gucci Guilty Man. Last 24 h.
This cologne smells so blue and so good. I like it although I find it difficult to describe. I think clean with a hint of spice when I wear this. I have also received a few compliments.
Bleu de Chanel is nothing special but it's very casual, fresh, clean, and elegant. I get compliments every time I wear it!
God bless!
9/10
Jacques Polge has clearly formulated Bleu to play very pianissimo. Either it is designed to encourage generous application to extract the true beauty within, or it really is meant to be a skin scent dwelling on the edge of detection.
Personally, I have chosen to apply very liberally, and it does indeed become more expansive, with the subtle aquatic mood swings being very entertaining. I have found it almost impossible to over-apply, and consequently it has great use for those safety first occasions.
There is much more to Bleu than a single wearing will reveal, and Polge has pulled off the neat trick of making the generic eminently wearable. By no means exceptional, but still very good
Rating: 3/5 Good
By far the best creation of Chanel for men is Allure Homme. Allure is in my opinion a benchmark for warm, feel-good perfume. However; I find Chanel's 2010 creation Bleu is a great pair for Allure. I am not sure why no one so far in reviews mentioned it's similarity with Eau Sauvage. It shares the same vibrations as Eau Sauvage after around 2 hours. However, I find this to be stronger cousin of Dior's masterpiece- which lasts longer and doesn't challenge nose as much- it's pretty linear for at least 3/4 hours. Other difference is that it's cleaner in vibe than Eau Sauvage and safer scent to blind buy. This is for people who like 'Bright'/ 'Fresh'/ 'Uplifting' / 'Pleasant' and 'Long Lasting' perfumes. Floral heart notes may appeal female wearers equally. It is very close to being unisex to my nose. But initial citrus blast may be overpowering to the soft feminine perfume lovers. Full marks to this amazing creation. Common but Uncommonly appealing scent in in my view.
I am truly dissapointed by Chanel. The sales associates pushed this one heavily when it first launched. I thought that it did not smell so great at all. Last weekend i had family in from out of town and a friend was wearing this. I thought that it was Angel for men actually. He said it was Bleu and it sealed the fate of this Chanel as to never be owned by me. Why all the fuss? I dont get it...
Even after a year, this still smells pedestrian to me. But still getting compliments. I had to sample this 5 times since it was new at the time, and every sales associate kept on giving me samples.
Smells like ginger, citrus, mint to me. To the females, I don't ask...they just like it. In the office, just an every day non-offensive scent. I have worn fahrenheit in the office, which I love, but that was quite a bit too potent for the the office.
I found something that smells similar to bleu, but more interesting and less bland that I will be getting this season.
I smelled this one last Christmas and thought it was very nice. The sales associated brought this one forward again this year and as it would happen, the sales associate was the same one from last year. I believe that this is the one that she likes most from Channel, and she appears to be in her 20's. For my taste of what I would like to smell on my husband I chose Egoist (manly)! Bleu is very nice, nothing to offend, but imho, young, modern and pedestrian. More of a comfort scent. I understand the appeal, but for the money, I placed mine elsewhere.
Sniffed myself a sample in an ESPN magazine a few months back, and I was incredibly underwhelmed. While it doesn't smell bad, it's NOT worth the price Chanel's asking. On Amazon, 3.4oz is $113 ... highway robbery. The scent is pretty generic, and the longevity is average/poor. For the price alone, I highly suggest you pass on this.
AMAZING, ELEGANT, FRESH, CLEAN. 10 ON 10
Similar to many people in this forum, I was expecting something more from Bleu. To me is a very generic fragance even when the price is so expensive. I'm using it a lot to empty the bottle and buy something else. :)
Regards.
A very ordinary smell nothing special in it .. after 1 hour or something it turns somehow to a chemical smell .. i had headache when i smelled it ... sorry Channel it is not one of your great fragrances
elmejor perfume q he olido en mi vida, lo tiene todo, olor increible, duracion, proyección y clase, el unico inconveniente esque aqui en chile el precio es muy muy elevado.
My boyfriend wore this and it is amazing! Also lasts very long.
definitely has nice longevity. a spray or two lasts me most of the day. it has a nice sillage, not too overbearing, but definitely detectable. i am very fond of this fragrance overall. it has a classy formality, but also fits into semi-casual situations well enough to really be good for almost any occassion. my ONLY complaint is that it sometimes gives me a headache (as does 212 men, which i find has something similar on the drydown).
i must make it clear that i have always been prone to headaches from certain fragrances (i'd love to find out what the cuase is) and it doesn't always happen with bleu de chanel (or 212 men). but definitely go light on it, because it is a strong fragrance and there's no need for more than one or two sprays. i am quite satisfied with this fragrance will continue to wear it proudly. it has received numerous compliments from women of all ages (although one younger girl did say it smelled a little to "old" for her liking). wear it with class :)
I don't like Chanel Blue, probably for the same reason I don't like Acqua dio Gio.
Everything about this cologne is intoxicating to me, it is strong, masculine, confident, and mysterious! I find the combination of fruity and spicy notes very complimentary to each other. I have noticed that both men and women react quite fondly to this cologne, men want to wear it and women want their men to wear it, which is a win-win situation for any man. I like its somewhat dark and enigmatic nature...
A very prominent smoky vetiver and aged ginger is what i smell.Somewhat synthetic to my nose. Fresh but in a smoky kind of freshness. A very masculine scent which I do not care for. Projection & silage is 10/10. I can smell my brother 10 meters away with this fragrance. Best worn at night.
Tried this at the store today and compared it with Allure Homme Sport. I still don't understand why everyone is hating on this so much!! I think its one of the better male frags around.....very rich and refined. I tried it after Allure Homme Sport (which is almost universally loved) and think that Bleu de Chanel is better!! Goes to my "to buy" list.
This is definitely a very generic fragrance. It has a little bit of every single "fresh-citrus-musky" juice in the market (i.e. Platinum Egoiste, Acqua di Gio, CK One, D&G Light Blue, Allure Homme Sport, Dior Homme Sport...even some of the nasty Axe/Lynx line) but with "quality ingredients" that doesn't make any justice to the overall smell.
This new creation of Monsieur Polge smells cheap and very mainstream (I know I'll make some enemies in the community with this statement, but it's my humble opinion). If you compare this with the original Égoïste, you can't believe that this fragrance was created by the same nose. It's amazing the lack of creativity!.
All I can detect from Bleu (or "Blah") is a mix of a very realistic, sparkling and refreshing fruity accord in the opening (grapefruit and ginger maybe?), some mint, a dash of frankincense (or some kind of resinous note) and some pale woods and spices in the base to hold together the previous notes. Nothing more. In fact, the opening of Bleu is the only part that deserves some attention and recognition for not using gallons of the hideous calone note.
The drydown is poor in complexity and smells like some cheap bodyspray with a decent and "Chanelesque" woody accord to justify both the price and the brand behind this insipid tribute to the actual "citrus Era".
Projection is good/mediocre in the inital hour or two, then comes close to the skin. The longevity is very poor (4 hours on my skin)
Overall, a very boring and "ok" fragrance for everyday use, nothing spectacular or special. Women seems to like it, but it's not a panty dropper in any way.
If you like fresh-musky fragrances, try it.
If you love it, do yourself a favor and buy Pierre Cardin's Revelation; its the same scent, the same notes (grapefruit, mint, incense and some woods) for US$30 or less (Bleu de Chanel is soooo overpriced!)
5/10
Chanel goes generic. This is the epitome of a perfume made to please everyone. The logical conclusion is a terribly uninteresting one.
I got a sample Vial of this.
First impression, VERY Citrus Lemon. Clean & Clear. then a clear & obvious Grapefruit.
Slowly dries to a sweet musty oily berry-like, almost Vanilla.
Very pervasive cloud of Lemon-Leather lingers around me.
Not at all what i'd expect from a Blue image. But some say it's like.... Cool Water by Davidoff. I expected something Ozonic & Marine, but i was wrong.
It's good, but not groundbreaking or terribly unique. on a personal note, it just doesn't seem to match my body musk very well, it turns it into a sour "Waxy" pencil like impression i notice people saying.
Sorry, but Jacque Polge must've had a cold when formulating this.
..... on second thought, it's a rather Attractive take on Lemon Leather, in all fairness, i kinda like it now.
This is an extremely-complex creation. Yes, the blast of initial top-notes is similar to others out there, but patience will teach one that the calm comes after the storm- that's when I am in awe! It is very sexy, very elegant, very warm with a slightly cool distance. Not your typical day frag- it has too many evening elements as well: choose your own time. I don't see Ceylon cinnamon listed, but that is the strongest note that I smell. Definitely. But it is merely the thinnest of veils over a plush cushion.
The word i use to describe bleu de chanel is meh. There is nothing wrong with it but theres not much right with it either.
Its a perfectly acceptable fragrance and does have a nice ginger note to it but i expect more from chanel.
The longevity and sillage are good but i dont know whether i want to project such a boring fragrance. There is also some weird pencil shaving smell i get which i dont like. I have half a bottle of this left and it feels like a chore to use.
Its basically what would happen if you took everything unique and tasty out of terre d'hermes.
Chanel needs to learn from this mistake.
@KinG JameS
This has nothing to do with Aqua di gio.
And I hate Aqua di gio as well, so u r not alone, we r 2 so far.
Full of aldehydes. Annoying and boring. We have hundreds of this fragrances.
Blue Velvet.
Energetic right off the hop, but then settles into a modern version of a floral scented Grandma. Don't get me wrong, I love my Grandma, I just don't want to smell like her. My bottle is missing about four sprays and I am looking to trade it.
Dont like the smell so much. Its good. Just not my type :)
The longevity and projection on the other hand is just fantastic for me :) From what i tested in one day, This outlasted them all with eaz.
This one appears to be very modern, but not to my taste. Are the 2010s all about generic stuff? Anyway, this one's so heavily advertised that you can't ignore it, but for that reason alone never should wear.
I tested this fragrance several times before I bought it,because it never appeald to me.But the supprice happend after a had this fragrance.
It needs time to properly disect this one and love.Give it a time. The outcome:Bleu de Chanel is georgeous fragrance. It`s total Chanel in it`s veins. The scent is extremely pleasant and invigorating. It will appeal to everyone and will not offend. It`s refreshing tonic, makes you feel great and masculin.Distinctive,it is unexpected,it`s freedom.
Somebody compares it to Aqua di Gio or Bulgari Aqua but BLEU has nothing in common with those fragrances.Bleu de Chanel is league on its own.
It is woody fragrance with fresh tone all the way till the drydown.Opens citrusy with traces of pink peppercorn, vetiver and peppermint. The opening is blast of energy and stimulation.
It continues with grapefruit, jasmin, nutmeg cedarwood and cistus labdanum. The middle retains the freshnes and continues with ginger, patchouly, sandalwood, moss and frankincense till the drydown.
Bleu de Chanel is very complex fragrance in its composition and the mastery of Chanel can be seen all the way.I have 120+ fragrances of all genres and none is alike. It is very versatile, you can wear it all year around.People will compliment you, and you will feel great. The projection is excelent as well as the longevity.
I recomend you to buy Bleu de Chanel, you can even do the blind buy and I am certain that you will never regret.
Some people ban this because it doesn`t stink but smells wonderfull.Casual, luxurious, class, refinement and covered sexines. That is Bleu de Chanel.Feel manly and be approached, fell energized and allow other to come close to you.BE UNEXPECTED!
I like most things that come from Chanel, but I was totally prepared to hate this scent. I really disliked the ad campaign, disliked the way it was being pegged for a very limited audience, disliked the name (another blue/water/cool scent?!?) I finally sprayed some on a blotter at a department store today and I was so pleasantly surprised.
This is a solid, inspiring perfume. The opening is excellent (my favorite part I think,) ginger and pepper and mint, like a gentle sparkling. Not too long afterward, the wood comes in and it's a gentle woody scent (like rose wood or just a touch of cedar,) and there are some resins in there too, although I can't place them. I put just a dab on my skin and it had a pleasant ending - vetiver, a touch of clove (this may be the incense note) and then a oaky trail.
Bleu is so much more subtle and nuanced than a lot of these reviews give it credit for. I was genuinely surprised at the juxtaposition of scents and sensations - from bright and crisp to smooth and velvety. I feel that it does fit with the other Chanel men's scents; having that characteristic 'scented geranium' feel that you find in Egoist and Pour Monsieur. I would gladly own a bottle of this.
Agree with Scentszilla, it sells well ONLY because it has Chanel label on it.
Label sells and not substance...
CHANEL does bargain-basement !
Perfect for those without an ounce of originality or a discerning nose.
I mean, why choose this just because it's got the "Chanel" tag, when there is obviously soooo much better to choose from ???
Now that I have my Bleu de Chanel, I can say with confidence that it is indeed THE BEST MALE PERFUME EVER.
As simple as that.
Well... what should I say, I tried this three times after gettin samples and was asked (funnily)three times too if I was wearing aqua di gio(by the way, am one of the only people in the world who loathes Aqua di gio),maybe they were on crack hehe I was both shocked, kinda ashamed and insulted, ever since then I´ve never ever wanted to try it anymore, there was a time when Chanel WAS Chanel, if one cant tell the difference between this and Armani Aqua Di Gio then I surely dont want it. Besides, I respect the reviews of members here and all but whoever thinks it has similarities with Libre from YSL is... well dont wanna be rude but thats absurd, Libre is a thousand times better and completly different. Dont get me wrong guys, its not bad, its woody and chilly in a good way but its JUST BORING. Nothin special, on the other hand Libre is lively, spicy and warm, WAY better than this, galaxies better....
The Story:
My brother's friend has this and he like to spray alot of it on. It smells good on him and I'm glad he made the effort when he went out for dinner with my family. But now, this smell will always remind me of my brother's slow-to-warm-up friend. Who looks like my brother.
The Smell:
Bleu de Chanel smells like "fresh man". No "sexy" here. Just a "I put cologne on to smell decent for once" type of ordeal.
This is not how a Chanel cologne should smell like: Axe Phoenix. Even though it has decent lasting power, the smell is dull, uninteresting and cheap. But you pay Chanel price for it: how is that possible?
Bleu de Chanel's effervescent citrus top and thin, woody-sweet drydown is so unremarkable that I'm intrigued. What else is going on here? What am I missing?
In truth, the drydown reminds me a little of Silver Mountain Water. The sandalwood and spice notes fail to offset the sweetness of the grapefruit and jasmine in the base. The arrangement is clean-smelling, fresh, grey-pink. Blue is not a color I associate with Bleu de Chanel.
It's okay, but frankly not something I'd wear. Call me cranky, but I'm getting tired of masculine fragrances that smell like sport deodorant.
Every time I smelt this perfume, I got something different, I totally mixed up and then I decided to test it thoroughly and then do comment.
So, first let me say I don't know if I'm a fan or not cause it surprised me at first and left me alone later.
It starts with a tone, then changes to another and then another and then.... and the more you obsess, the more you upset! This one includes not only a touch of all Chanel men perfumes, but also some other lines; it's a multi-perfume!
So what remains? An unidentifiable characteristic.
But mainly it's a fresh lemony aquatic powdery happy official perfume, yet chic and inoffensive. Not my cup of tea this time.
Well, it's not BAD. I just think that its a very mature scent. A little too stuffy for me. It would be an instant hit with a 55+ man who just wants to go out to dinner with his wife. He's wearing a blazer on top of a polo shirt and some khaki pants. There's just nothing modern or friendly about this one. I will say that its a nice fragrance but it is stereotypical to me.
The blend of the ingredients however is right on. Not too much of this and not too much of that. I wouldnt call it boring but I could personally see myself passing this up when i get dressed and later on feeling guilty that i didnt wear it more. Its also capable of getting a complement on the street that would possibly make you want to wear it more. I dont think i would buy it though.
After testing the projection and longevity of the Bleu de Chanel, I can guarantee that this scent is simply perfect in every way.
This is certainly the best perfume produced in recent times.
I look forward to having my bottle of this wonderful, incredible and seductive Bleu de Chanel.
*****
Warm, like a thick, comfortable blanket. 100% masculine, but not offensive or overpowering. It is dark, attractively dirty, but nicely softened with a medium dose of sugar. The result is rich, earthy, but undeniably pleasant.
Just a touch of citrus to brighten up the whole arrangement. Unlike other colognes however, the citrus doesn't make it too sharp or clean.
I wouldn't describe it as "blue," but very dark brown, almost black. You might say the dash of citrus makes it just aquatic enough to make it a very, very dark blue.
An expression of an idealized masculinity. Perfect for a younger man or teen who wants to enhance and project a gentle but insistent strength. Wear it if you need a little more hair on your chest.
But not for a man's man, who doesn't need to project additional masculinity. An older man is better served by something more sophisticated and personal, something less indulgent, and a bit more mature.
It’s not inevitable that a Big Seller will be bad. It’s not wrong to design a perfume intended to find a large middle of the consumer market. I don’t have a problem with the notion of Bleu. Bleu’s approach, evidenced by the fresh-citrus-woody genre chosen and the advertising is to attempt the big, new masculine that straight men will be comfortable with, straight women will like on them, and gay men will consider (the television ads are apparently deliberately homophilic.) And given Drakkar Noir’s history, Bleu could very well have the lesbian demographic in hand as well.
But marketing isn’t the problem. The fragrance is. It’s loosely handsome, offers decent but not bothersome projection and stays within the fresh/woody né eau de cologne range that generally shouldn’t offend. But there is a shrill sweetness, more aspartame than sugar or fruit, that becomes dominant as the topnotes fade and lasts through drydown. To my nose it’s disproportionate, a miscalculation.
The best way I can describe it is by diet soda analogy. Artificial sweetener in a cold, fresh Diet Coke is just fine. In a room temperature, flat Diet Coke, you wouldn’t touch it. (If you were uncertain, Bleu is the warm, flat soda in this analogy.)
i Love This Fragrance
Longevity : Very Very Good
Ignore what all the dudes in this forum say.* The simple fact is women love this scent and every time I wear it I get compliments. Case in point: the hottest girl in my office tells me the other day "Wow! You smell really good. What are you wearing?" Of course, this was the exact response I was hoping to elicit.
*unless you're looking to impress a dude, in which case, read on....
I agree with Jazmam, this is ultimate sexy for a man. Girlies... if your man is wearing this, watch out, he's fair game!!! ;)
I've read some say it's somewhat ''generic'', I dont think so at all, I detect a certain 'je nais se qua', dont know exactly what, but it has that certain something, something that I do not detect in any other mens cologne. I absolutely adore this!
This may be the single sexiest scent on men. This is not back seat car sex this is in the pouring rain in paris, on a dimly lit alleyway sex!!
I like it a lot. It may be too expensive for what it is, sure, but smells good, gets compliments, good sillage, great longevity....in other words, what everybody should look for when buying a new cologne. Now that I think about it, it's not too expensive, since, at the end of the day, you get exactly what you pay for with this one. Approved.
I got it, i love it and most importantly chicks diiiiig it!
If this is so simple, clone, soapy, boring (how can a fragrance be boring?)synthetic, etc etc. please list the name of all the fragrances similar to it probably I can find it in the supermaket or a convenience store..
Thanks...
G Perfumista I agree with your detailed complete comment...
I think most of the negative or so-so reviews on this fragrance are from guys. I got one of those little paper samples in a sale flyer in my paper one day, and I had to keep smelling it all day long. I don't know what is in this stuff (pheremones?) but I found it intoxicating. Guys, if you're wearing scent for your own enjoyment, wear what you want. If, however, your focus is on success with the ladies....
WEAR THIS EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!
I personally would jump any man who smells like this! Seriously, there's something in it that will drive women wild!!
I must agree with @muskymale in this discussion -- there's a great deal of hype around Bleu, and frankly this lacks the x-factor of most Chanels. I would almost go so far as to say that it's the attempt of this house to market to a younger demographic. @Raptole also got it almost right in his assessment that he's 18 and he loves it, but I beg to differ as a mid-40's male who's established his tastes that this would suddenly change his whole wardrobe.
This is, in a word, ordinary. It's pleasant, it's nice, it's inoffensive, and smells more youthful thanks to the emphasis on grapefruit and citrus notes. In this mixture, I suspect the other woody and spicy elements (incense, cedar, nutmeg) are almost too muted and too fleeting. If I was younger and wanted a summer fragrance, I might consider this, but it lacks that certain appeal, depth, and intrigue that captures me from first sniff to eventual dry-down and evaporation. The consensus appears to be that it has its own character, and after a couple of good samplings, I would agree. But it's not a character that, in my view, smells much different from too many other citrus-noted frags on the market. It's unremarkable.
After searching for months, I finally found my signature scent. I can't believe I actually ignored this perfume the first day I went to fragrance boutiques!
I immediately fell in love the first time I sprayed this on my wrist. It's clean and fresh, but it has that mysterious and dark vibes to it, thanks to the incense notes. I've been using this for a few months now, and I haven't got bored with it.
The opening notes are wonderful. It's like a creamy citrus with a hint of ginger and incense. The top notes are the best, IMO. Then, the fragrance develops and the ginger notes come into the spotlight, mixed with the vetiver, mint and jasmine. Although I'm not a big fan of gingers in scents, this one is an exception. The base notes of Bleu are fantastic. I smell metals and woods harmoniously mixed with one another.
I've gotten so many compliments with this perfume. Yes, it's generic, but so what? I love it, and my friends do, as well.
10/10. No, actually make it 11/10.
I love this perfume when i tried in changi airport ,them i bought it .............it's really comfort to me i wearing everyday until right now
I'm no fan of the chanel line. Most of their fragrances have a creamy citrus that really gets to my stomach. However bleu de chanel has to be the only chanel fragrance I will consider purchasing. It doesn't have that nasty creamy note from the allure lines and it isn't old fashioned like plat egoiste. This fragrance isn't unique or amazing, however its extremely versatile and safe. And yes I don't know why but girls love this stuff.
whoever says no for this cologne should have his own nose broken.may be its because this one is so good beyond imaginations.you are doing very well madame Gabrielle....bravo
someone at work was wearing this today and it smelled real good on him
First time I had to ask another man what he was wearing.
I thought it was great on him even thought it was preceding and following him anywhere.
well if silage that you want here it is.
This is an awesome fragrance. I love Bleu Channel. I have not smelled anything like this before, not to say there's not something out there similar. To me this is a romantic scent; something you want to wear on a date with your girlfriend or wife. If anything, wear this when you know you are going to be around a lot of females. You are sure to get noticed and sure to get compliments.
I sprayed this on my boyfriend at Macy's & seemed to really fall in love with it. After a month or so I decided i'd go to sephoria & buy it for him when we sprayed it on the second time it absolutely didn't smell the same. I still like it on paper but the chemistry really changes the fragrance.
My experience with bleu was the very first time i smelled this i thought, "smells very familiar, kinda generic, good but generic, kinda like polo blue". Well i ended up blind buying it. Fast forwad a couple weeks later i ended up swapping it because my nose would get irritated from it (the top notes of ginger and grapefruit)" also keep in mind this was around march spring time. A couple months pass and ran into someone basically giving it away so i decided to give it another shot. Now this was in mid-June when i got it.
WOW just WOW first time i wore it out in the heat it was amzing! Somehow for me it works much better in heat. Top notes did not become irritating in fact i love the top notes, great longetivity and projection (8hrs) on my skin. One thing i have to say is don't overspray because it can get cloying after 4-5 sprays MAX. This to me still smells unoriginal, generic, but a WELL DONE QUALITY scent. Out of all the chanels this would have to be the "everyday" scent.
I would mostly recommend this one for summer days, maybe fall because of the incense and spicyness to it. To me unlike the other chanels this one is not worth the hefty price it carries but i guess it's since it bares the chanel logo...
Bleu d chanel is not purely a unique fragrance, many of you have smelled something like this once in your life. So it is lacking originality. But it is very different to to those sweet toned male fragrances which are prevailing the perfume industry now a days. It is something a Pure man should smell like. It falls in the category of Aromatic/Spicy perfumes. The best thing is the addition of mysterious notes of metal, smoke and aldehydes. Silage and longevity is just which is needed for this type of perfume, the both the features are actually fair enough. One thing that disappoints me is its price, its way too expensive and this thing repels many genuine buyers.
Nonetheless, it is the third perfume from chanel which held me after Antaeus and Allure Sport.
I give it 8.5 out of 10.
I smelled this on my doctor a mile away and it simply seduced me. ( I'm a female, guys :p ) I just had to ask what it was to make my bf wear it. It's just so masculine!! Not like one of those sweet perfumes that guys wear, no . Girls like their men to smell masculine. This is perfectttt, I wish they had a women version for it. Anyway I think this will make any girl fall in love with u. I certainly am with my doctor ;)
Hi Guys.... i have done my research and found that it's smell is like Adidas Deodrant in oragne color tin bottled. opening is 100 percent same but dry down is a bit different. Got it a few days back and found nothing special. Just an ordinary fragrance which you smell and figured out just a nice one but not an extraordinary or an expensive frag :(:(
awesome fragrance! unique classy parfum. for all age.
i love the other chanels but ive just bought this and not sure? its not bad at all but just doesnt do it for me
I love bleu de chanel so much.
I'm an expert in perfume business for 15 years in the world.BLEU DE CHANEL it's a unique perfume.
This is what a real man should smell like! OK, Im just 18 years old and I loved this fragrance, i had the 1.7 oz bottle, had the shower gel, after shave balm and Real Deo Spray. I had the whole set. It was amazing! But this is not for my age, this is for a 45 year old man. I picture a 45 year old doctor who has 2 kids in high school. A loving wife at home and he is not rich but can easily afford stuff. This is the kind of impression this cologne leaves. I will keep the bottle because it has a magnetic cap and it kind of reminds me of 212 MEN, which is also a great Male fragrance.
This one is for men who have already figured their way through life and they don't have to prove themselves to others, they've already done it. This is more for my dad's age.
It is long lasting(6 hours on me), does not project very much, but doesn't stick to the skin as well, it is easily noticeable after 2 hours of the spray. But won't be as strong at the end.
This is a great CHANEL smell and one that every real man should own.
I love this stuff start really fresh not lemony or sweet orange, The grape fruit gives it light freshness with mint not too gingery i love how it is peppery i dont smell jasmine in it, It last on me 6 hours i finished my first bottle and i am getting the 150 ml bottle soon
Generic? Sure! Usual? Absolutely! Safe? Definitely! Worth a purchase? How many ways can I say yes? Spicey, citrus, peppery, floral and a bit woodsy! Sure you have smelled this before it is the blue oxford shirt, the black oxford dress shoe, the crisp light blue tie of fragrances. What do I mean? It meets all your needs. Great for a summer day, warm enough for a fall night, great for work, and a good first impression fragrance. You can do just about anything in this. It is the epitome of versatility. I call it the work horse of the Chanel family. The brother that didn't follow the Harvard and Yale brothers to the Ivy League, but opened a small machine shop or an HVAC company and built his small wealth that way. He didn't become a Wall Streeter, he is the guy next door who owns the pool company.

You will be complimented because it arouses the senses of the average person. It is fresh, yet spicy, warm yet cooling. Don't know why this thing gets so hated on it. I enjoy it when I don't know what else to enjoy!
Another masterpiece from CHANEL,I think Bleu de Chanel -this very nice fragrance- will be the best for alot of people.Seductive, masculine and woody perfume in a very nice bottle from CHANEl house ??!
that is all what i need from a perfume.
Well, At first as other guys already said it starts with
very generic and loud notes which remind you of cheap Avon sport frags, After about half an hour on my skin It Evolves to some more pleasant citrusy and creamy notes which easily could be called "allure edition blanche" EXTREME. In this stage it is quite nice actually. The base notes as with middle notes are musky and creamy with right amount of zest which make the base note very classy and modern.I like it.I rate this Frag
7/10.
UPDATE: After using several times I have to say I love it now. The middle and base notes are so modern and sexy.
the most beautiful thing in this perfume is the bottle
after that, yes it feels good ..... but what else?
Yet one of the best-selling fragrance in the U.S.
This is the new perfume?
because I find it very boring
People here called Fahrenheit "sure sex", they now call this "definite sex" - one of the best and most likely the best creation of the century. Everything about it is wonderful and the girls love it !
I smelled this as a tester in the mall and it smells okay, its nothing spectacular. Its definately not worth the price tag.
My recent signature fragrance! First is it has that same dna you'd always recognize with Allure Homme and Allure Homme Sport truly their signature. The top is really fresh and has a dark vibe to it. Towards the drydown i smell somewhat like a laundry soap scent and in a very good way. Such a classy fragrance good job sir Jacques Polge
The only great (and right) thing about "Bleu" is the magnetic bottle cap of the Eau de Toilette and the innovative cap of the body wash (both make you want to use the products more), funny but true!
The blue colour (a sort of a darker blue indigo shade) is a little too dark while the perfume that's in it, is again a rather too sharp mixture of acquatic metallic notes, (the ones the creator seems to love so much but is incapable to tame), that lacks body. This perfume feels incomplete!
It is like a piece of modern music without enough bass.
At times it is more annoying than pleasant, only very slightly saved by the experience of a nose that obviously gave it too much thought and lost the point.
Being Chanel, they'll have to keep it on the market forever, but there have been more than one better fragrances, that never got a fraction of the publicity and chance this one got.
You don't have to believe me. Do a blind test and see for yourself..
The ginger flavor is very high. After 10 minutes the flavor is mild. this is very modern

Bought this for my father as a Christmas present. My better half likes it, I had a sample and quite liked it but not enough to own it. Have mixed feelings myself, it seems like the sought of smell you'd put on after going to the gym and then heading off to the pub for a pint with the lads. It's a bit synthetic and seems like a classy version of cheap smells (if that makes any sense?)
Quite nice as a change from your normal choice of fragrance but doesn't really strike me as a classic.

When i sniff that, i thought, oh shi.. another generic!? But when i put that on my skin, uau!! The evolution of Bleu is really amazing, after the third time using this and getting a lot of compliments, i have to say, awesome! Fresh, fruit, spicy and woodlike with a incense vibe in the background, loved it!
I have not found anything yet that is better for me than this...
simply awesome!
Let's see if I can get this to makes sense. I see a lot of people comparing bleu to all of the older colognes of different decades. Also complaining that Chanel has hit the shitter (Ok not in that exact term). The reviews on here say that Bleu is "Boring" "Unoriginal" etc etc etc. Well let's take a look at what is the number one selling cologne in the world, Acqua di gio. ADG IS bland and boring but that is now what sells to the masses and from a business standpoint you sell to the masses. The times have changed and the big masculines (Azzaro PH, Polo and Aramis Just to name a few) have taken a back seat to the new generation of colognes that are appealing, safe and light. Bleu is not bad at all. The times have just changed and this is the wave of the future. Without new colognes of this generation, the above list would never be called classics.
Chanel is a name in perfume, like switzerland for watches.
But this creation is the most dissapointed, they ever made.
Hi.
When one fragrance have a lot of reviews it can not be necessarily a bad fragrance albeit some of reviews are negative. In my mind CHANEL fragrances are often transcends of time and this is the best characteristic this fashion house for me but perhaps with this one CHANEL stop in time.nonetheless BLEU DE CHANEL is a nice fragrance for me. Masculine,Charming, Sophisticated,Aromatic,Well-Balanced and Modern yet Classic.
BDC delivers uncompromising masculinity throughout the evolution of the fragrance. It opens with citrus and ginger accords that transition to a soft floral and woody heart of jasmine, mint, vetiver and a masculine base of cedar.this scents for men who are mature to their tastes and know how to put a virile, sensuous cologne to good use.
This CHANEL EDT is not an overpowering scent, just enough to get the female hormones raging as it makes ladies want to flirt with you.It is an all purpose fragrance for men that goes perfect in the Office during the day and also when going out at the Night. It can also be worn most of the year.Totally nothing masterpiece but it deserves more attention.
Sillage?Ok.
Longevity?About 8 hours on my skin.
7/10
generic generic generic...no thanks!
I think I'm conflicted where 'Bleu' is concerned. My inner devotee to Antaeus and Egoiste made me want to try this offering as soon as it appeared on sale, the endorsement from a very attractive female colleague only reinforced my desire even more so. Unfortunately, whilst the scent is pleasant enough, it doesn't live up to the wow-factor (for me, not everyone I understand) of stable mates such as Antaeus and Egoiste.
However, just as I love the flacon designs for those two, this new offering has an equally exquisite and timeless design appeal, so much so that I might have to purchase an iconic bottle just so the it can sit next to my wash basin!
I gave this one last try and I agree with Michael over at his fromtoptobottom - perfumepatter blog, in that I view this fragrance as "a formula that includes generic, slightly synthetic citrus, sweet cola-ish musk and that iso e super, slightly buzzy cedar accord." It's got too much iso e super for me, so right there is a "deal breaker." If you want something beyond "safe," this is for you. You can smell like generic "man" in a "modern" nation. Beyond the iso e super, this "blobs" up for me, and generates a unpleasant sensation. It doesn't smell good to me, just "synthetic." And if you think I just like vintage or niche, let me point out that I like Joop! Jump Summer Temptation. If you want a recent "men's" fragrance, that is at least somewhat interesting and without any major issues, I suggest trying that one. If I did like BdC, I'd just buy some iso e super and a couple of other accords from the perfumer's apprentice and make something like this for myself, probably for less than $20 per 100 ml. Plenty of household products smell quite nice, but they are not "perfumes." Chanel seems to understand this and cranks out fragrances like BdC for the "oh that smells nice" people of the world, of which there are a huge number (hence great profit potential), obviously.
My review will be a martyr. It will gain and lose balloons, but remember lovers of Bleu, i am with you.
How anyone with half of a brain could even consider this generic is completely beyond me. Snobs will be snobs, and it seems now adays anything with any sort of ad campaign is instantly nailed to the cross of "ordinary".
Do you people even know who created this? His name is Jacques Polge, a master perfumer. He has single handedly brought us every single modern Chanel fragrance, and yet you still spit in his face, over and over again all because of an add campaign.
I admit, this thing sells, and sells BIG, but there is always a reason to the hype. If i mailed every single one of you a unlabeled bottle of this you'd change your mind rather quickly.
I really hope he doesn't read half of the horrible insults that you kids madly type into your keyboards, because i wouldn't want him to be discouraged with this creation ONE LITTLE BIT!
Exactly what i said in my last review was, this is a masterpiece from the house of Chanel, and i feel for anyone who doesn't appreciate it. I stick to that thought 100%.
The scent is linear starting off with HARD accords of lemon zest, realistic grapefruit, ginger and woods.
Smokey savory incense and sun sparkling ceder lead way into stringent powdery jasmine.
Mint becomes more apparent deeper into the dry down pairing perfectly with labdanum and oddly enough creates the "humidity over cold air" olfactory. Pimento's "red" sweet accords add mealy spices upon drydown, paired with buttery vetiver.
I approve (you all should be ashamed of yourselves)

I love this perfume, though not very familiar with their longevity or projection...
The smell goes through several stages, all of which are wonderful...
It deserves the award he received FiFi...
Nothing special about this smell. Not sure how it won so many awards. If you already have an aquatic, summery smell, like Aqua di Gio, Versace pour homme, or Gucci pour homme II, then you don't need to get this.
It's soapy, I smell like this when I get out of shower. Why would I buy this?!. btw I use L'oreal Paris - Bodybuilding shampoo if you're curious.
First of all ,i would say this no way a summer fragrance.
Ginger and grapefruit are dominated with touch of incense and vetiver background.
Soapy,little powdery,sweet mix.
A work scent to my nose for fall, winter and spring.
I have to mention that smelling it on other different then testing.
Quality ingredients ,very appealing!
Longevity 6 hours with good projection.
After many wearing ,i would say that the openning is little mature (grapefruit effect),then 20 min it can be worn by anybody.
U know what ! People are saying " this is not a chanel , this is too safe !",let's diasec the history of this house , in the 80" they launched antaeus wich was a better version of paco rabanne pour homme and azzaro , they did something quality but not unique .
In 1993 they launched platinum egoiste with well known theme but with better ingredients, they launched allure wich is not bold or unique at all but very appealing and nice ,same story with allure homme sport and now bleu de chanel , i mean WTF!! come on !!
This is a truly chanel:
" SAFE,VERSATILE,GETS COMPLIMENT,LAST LONG AND QUALITY ".
I have just purchased this perfume, initialy very fiant on my skin, then once it had dried down it comes to a fresh clean sensual smell. love it.
I am searching for a summer fragrance and here are my thoughts on this one.
Chanel has a MASSIVE advertising campaign for this fragrance and the salespeople push this one hard. When at Nordstrom's I found one I wanted to try and was "forced" to try this Chanel on my other wrist. The lady that sprayed it immediately told me she liked this better on my skin. I was pushed to buy this because it was their best seller and they could not keep it in stock! Well, good for Nordstrom's! I bet their profits are great and the mark up has to be huge.
So I think this fragrance is good, nothing that stands out from the crowd in my opinion and it deserves to be popular...it is a good scent. I might be tempted to have this as a fragrance in my collection but why would I want to smell like all those other people that have this in their collection? Why should my signature summer scent be one where people will say, "gee, you smell like my boyfriend", or "my boss" or "my dad"?
I am afraid this is or will be a ubiquitous scent. I want something unique that is not on everyone's shelf. I will pass on this safe buy.
I need to wash this off because my eyes hurt from the vapors.
It is not astonishing, not suprising at all, but which Chanel perfume is so original, "something completly different"? None. These are fragrances for a self confident and mature (emotionally) people who don't crave for compliements. Anyway only a bunch of people tell me how great I smell when wearing perfume, some of the people don't care about it, some of them are too shy to do it. And Chanel Bleu is a kind of perfume that you won't recive many compliements when wearing it. Just like my favorite Chanel Egoiste Platinum - I'm an egoist when wearing it, I don't care what people say. I think Chanel perfume are for those who like to smell good but don't want to stick out of a crowd. Chanel Bleu is good and I don't regret buying it but I prefer Egoiste Platinum and Allure. Still Chanel and Dior are my favorite manufacturers. Dior Homme and Chanel PE - masterpieces.
March 2011:
I won't spend many words on this as it's simply otrageous. A totally generic light-sportish fragrance with a fancy name on the bottle! That's all you can get form Bleu!
Edit June 2011:
After several wearings I partially changed my opinion on Bleu. While I still believe this fragrance is way too conventional and generic, at least it smells very natural and takes the distance from the average low quality of nowadays masculines. Honestly crafted and targeted to men who are easily pleased. In this context Bleu does what it does, and it does it good.
I stick with Egoiste or Antaeus.
Rating: 6.5/10
Now, after more than 24 hours I am writing about this parfume....
Top
-blast of sweet citrus with a hint of ginger
-aldehydes (standard CHANEL creamy scent boost)
Middle
-mint and jasmine are hidden by woods (can't dstinct which of them) and grapefruit
-aldehydes
Base
-cedar (typical for CHANEL), incense, nutmeg and some spices.
Sillage: it projects for the first 4-5 hours.
Longevity: 8-10 hours can be easily detectable by everyone from 1 feat and it leave a trail..ohh. For next 12 hours I enjoy it on my skin.
Occasion: jack of all trades.
It turns into a creamy and sweet melody that touches your senses and make you fall in love with this ...fragrance....timeless and unique..not so..
..it is not original nor like everything in the market. I dont know how to explain...on my skin in pretty unique... OR maybe I like it because of sillage and Time Length ??
Whatever..I like it and it is captivating and warm. People can smell it and they think twice before criticizeing...
I wrote before that was targeting young men but after several months of wearing I can't say this is for youngsters, at least above 30, very mature masculine and macho.
I m overriding now what I typed below about Bleu.
Nothing to do the with aquatics except the name.
Projection and longevity are superb.
Initially I get mint and citric notes, then labdanum, pepper, incense, woody and floral notes join.
It is really complex and very well crafted scent by quality ingredients.
A little soapy a little powdery a little bit sweet, but very hot as fire.
More suitable for winter, autumn and spring, may be too strong for summer.
I'm a 33-year-old man, who wears sometimes suites....it goes well inside suites...I've already gotten a LOT of compliments wearing this scent.....to unmarried men, THIS IS A LADY KILLER!!!
It's nice, strong, not overwhealming, great projection and lasting, good sillage, perfectly sweetened, and almost heavenly designed.
It has that "something else" I've been looking for since I discovered Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male.....maybe because of ceddar+ginger+sandalwood combo!!
It's special, has personnality, and is unique...everybody who enjoys perfumes should try this one.....
I just love it!!!

Just nothing … typical fresh spicy cologne. Hundreds of this kind of perfumes you can buy everywhere for a few dollars or euros. The worst creation by Chanel.
I smell this today. it's like some of the reviewers have stated this smells like a total rip.off of EgoistePlatinum.
What is it with fragrance companies ripping.off a fragrance that is nearly 20 years old???
Great for late afternoons and nights. Seems to disappear in humid/sunny climates. So definitely not for clubbing and not for cruising in hot weather with your top back or windows down. The scent is for very settled activity in my opinion. Even though people say this scent resembles another cologne, Chanel Bleu stands out of the crowd with class and sophistication. The pepper calms down after drying and a smooth powdery, clean scent settles in. Expensive but worth adding this to your collection.
The worst creation for Chanel.
How Low the mighty can go.. reminiscent of any Hugo in Motion ??? is this the same house which created Egoiste ????
Disappointing. good for gym though.
Yum. I couldn't stop sniffing my sample. Perhaps not the most unique scent but definitely a nice one. This goes on my list of top mens scents for certain. Very attractive.
Sitting here sniffing it on my wrists right now. Third time wearing it and my tester is almost empty now... :-(
Ok, sooo....
Its a very safe scent. Nothing really outta the box here, but very well done. Beginning is nice, but a bit boring IMO. Reminds me ALOT of my Azzaro Chrome Legend.
Dont get me wrong. It's really not bad at all. If youre tired of your coolwater/Acqua De Gio/D'issey Pour Homme/D&G Light Blue this could be good for you. No compliments on it so far, but havent really worn it socially yet, except for half a day at work. I could see it as a "compliment getter" though.
Sillage: Average. Its not "Out there" but nor is it "Skin close".
Longevity: On me, 4-6 hours. But thats my average, since I got dry skin. Same Longevity as I get with my D&G Light Blue and my Acqua De Gio. D'issey Pour Homme is still my longevity king in this genre of fragrance.
When to use: Could make for a nice all-year work scent. It can also be used as a nice all-around scent in the summer time. Def. not a scent for cold weather.
Sprays: For work I would just go with one chest and one on neck. If you feel adventurous go for 2 neck, 1 chest. For general use outside work I would go 2 neck, 1 chest and 1 on wrists and dab them.
Conclusion: for a "inside the box" scent its really good.
- Mrhviid... :o)
When the saleswoman gave me this fragrance to try, I was kind of prejudiced, partly because of the massive ad campaign. And my first sniff kind of confirmed this feeling. It didn't smell bad at all, just kind of generic.
But this likeable yet forgettable opening transformed after about 45 minutes in some kind of perfectly blended fresh scent. I even got a compliment from a friend, while I only sprayed it on my arm. It's the kind of fragrance that gets sophisticated after a while. Definitely not a paper-tester.
So I bought it the same day, and was really happy with it. When searching for reviews on the internet, it seemed that not many people shared my opinion. Well, this hasn't stopped me from wearing it quite often, and in fact, this one has given me the most compliments so far.
I think that a lot of people made the mistake of testing it on paper or that their prejudice took the upper hand. Anyway, it's a real nice, not very special yet very intriguing fragrance. On my skin it lasts about 7 or 8 hours and it has kind of nice projection.
One warning: do not overspray it, people in your surroundings, including yourself, will get the feeling of being suffocated.
My husband has it and he wears it well :) It's a nice and decent daytime and business scent for a man :)
Nice but too much pepper 4 me!
I wont buy it.
It's not the most amazing perfume that chanel has ever made.
Seriously ,it's renewal of EGOISTE PLATINUM ,So if you're a man above 40 and you don't hate it then this is a good choice.
Overall:4/10
Very beautiful and long lasting.
Absolutely a very safe blind-buy!
My best perfume ever...
Projection 10/10
longevity 10/10
Sillage 10/10
When I wear it, everybody asks me: "What is your perfume? It's so delicious and lux!"
And girls are absolutely allured by its beautiful and energy-full scent!
I will have it forever!
Overall 10/10
This smells the sum total of a million shower gels and cheap deodrant sprays all mixed together in one generic soup. It's pretty awful... and an artistic tragedy for Chanel.
Nothing special or singular. It's very like to "Egoiste Platinum"
1/10
Bleu de Chanel is unique - and I'm not talking about originality, but for it's notes balance. Incense, pink pepper, ginger? There's some good work here.
Interesting fragrance. Charming, fresh, yet masculine.
Just make sure to test it on your skin. Damn sweet on paper, but excellent on skin.
Very unique and exotic. I get 8-10 hours out of it. Good for all year around in my opinion. Very classy. You'll smell like a million with this one.
Yes this is not a ground breaking fragrance but if your a man looking for an excellent signature scent, this could be a great choice. It's a very well done fresh fragrance that could be worn all year round. The top starts out with a nice citrus accord then it transforms into a fresh and green vetiver scent, accompanied by ginger, with a touch of florals to soften it up. Vetiver is the last man standing as this fragrance fades out. Longevity and projection are great. I get about 8-10 hours out of this one.
This is the most sofisticaded fresh scent that i have ever smelt. its very sensual, classy. a very well done woody aromatic scent, superb sillage. its very well done, and it does not deserve all the bad review. the open maybe is a little generic and safe, but the drydown ,, oh my,,, the drydown is very sofisticaded and UNIQUE. this is one of the best Chanels, even better than some of the classics like Antaeus and Egoiste. dont miss this marvelous only for the fresh citrus topnotes. its a jewel.
"In fashion, you know you have succeeded when there is an element of upset." Coco Chanel
I will start by saying I don't find Bleu de Chanel worthy of all of the negative and indifferent reviews. I tested this a couple of times, and found it superior to some other popular colognes that get rave reviews on here. Although scent is a matter of personal taste, I am reminded of my opening quote while reading over the reviews.
I agree it is NOT boring or generic at all. For me it's very refreshing and layered. There is a rich creamy quality to it. It starts out citrus. A little green and minty, but gives way to fresh, cool woods. I bought the 3.4 ounce/100 ml bottle. I love the magnetic cap. You'll miss this if you are just sampling.
It has proven to be long lasting on my skin even in warm temperatures. It's going to be great for this Spring and Summer. Day and night. I wore it at SXSW and had several people ask me what I was wearing. It was a hit!
Everything about Bleu de Chanel is a winner. The deep and complex scent as well as the bottle. I can see where it may come across as "boring" and or "generic" at first, yet it is anything but. It demands to be worn on the skin to be fully experienced. Hold the bottle up to the light and look at it. Put on a couple of sprays. Let the cap snap back on by itself. Enjoy its richness.
Despite the tepid reception here, it will be a success and very deservedly so. I had high expectations for Chanel and Jacques Polge, and I'm not disappointed or underwhelmed in the least. Chanel didn't sell out, but introduced a great new fragrance worthy of the lineage. I for one, love it.
I didn't find this one boring or generic at all, i find it very woody and exotic, not something I expect from Chanel, but probably their better work in my opinion. Only thing I don't like is the citric notes. I would replace anything citrus with anything else just because im prejudiced like that. The drydown has a green feel to it as well as the citruses.
I had high hopes for this one. A major men's launch from Chanel? And with Jacques Polge as the nose behind it? Sounds good to me! When I sprayed it on in the department store, I was a little let down. No big deal, I figured my nose needed time to pick up on what I was missing, so I got a sample. Sadly it didn't help - all I got from this was a generic, fresh, woody aromatic. And that's still all I get.
No, it's not a bad smell. I can't deny that it's made from quality ingredients, and I'm sure it'll be a big hit with lots of consumers. Maybe I just expected more from Chanel, and I definitely expected a lot more from the nose behind Les Exclusifs.
To be fair, the comparisons to Axe are a bit much. If someone has been wearing Axe and they want to upgrade to this, that's a huge step in the right direction! But still, here's hoping we get something a little more interesting next time. I'll have to pass on this one.
Yes it is generic. If you went down the aisle at Walmart and smelled every deoderant stick for men and every body wash for men and mixed them all together, Bleu by Chanel is what you would get. It is the classic fresh, sporty "man" scent. Only it is done with Chanel quality.
I have a lot of bottles of cologne, but when my wife smelled this one, she said, not only that this was the best, but that this one is what I should always smell like.
Clean, Sporty, Fresh, Masculine, Generic, Excellent!
I don’t passionately disagree with this cologne like some listeners HOWERVER I do see where generic comes into play as a description. All in all though, this stuff does not smell bad! It just isn’t a distinguished scent. Clean and fresh. It does smell smorgasbord –ish by which I mean that it smells like a conglomerate of many different colognes sprayed at the same time. Like… a cologne section of the mall as opposed to 1 distinct scent.
My final answer though is that it’s not bad.
First I must say that I am a big fan of Jacques Polge´s masterpieces. I think Coco is one of the best perfumes ever created and i also love and use the Allure line. But Bleu...what a disappointment!
Very generic, I find it a bit "out of fashion", like a return to 90´s acquatics.
Sorry but this Chanel is not original, smells very conventional and lacks inspiration.
What a pity!
Woody fragrance? more like fruity. It smells like straight up liquorish grapes to me, with a firm woody base. True it doesn't deserve all the trashing, it's a fair masculine modern scent, it's just that we expect more from "CHANEL"!!!
Allure goes aqua. A lovely combo that keeps shifting. Too bad this is getting a lot of negative reviews from people who only tried it on paper. This needs a few wearings to fully get it. I didn't like it the first time I tried it (on paper) either. A few weeks later a friend gave me a lift and when I entered the car I was pleased by his smell. He was wearing Bleu. Gave it a few wearings and I agree that Chanel released better fragrances, but it surely doesn't deserve the bashing it receives here. A great all season wearing for any generation.
8/10
What we have here is an aquatic scent that should have been released during the 90's but missed it's time frame and now we are past the first decade of the 21st century but I guess perfection takes a long time. It could be a homage to the 90's or just another male perfume from Chanel whatever it is, this is a quality scent that you can wear any time and in any situation without being offensive or out of place.
I m a huge fan of Chanel scent and own most of the colognes...and just when I thought it cant get any better, it kinda did...It has a strong masculine feel to it(woodsy, minty, somewhat spicy) It still has very european vibe...kinda similar to Egoiste Platinum, but not as loud and moderately subtle...I feel this cologne fits more colder seasons and evening occasions...maybe because of the vetiver/sandlewood notes...I would highly recommend to anyone...
a gift to my boyfriend last Christmas, he loves it!
Simply one the very best woody citruses in the world. Classy is this one
Minity Meo, Chanel was a woman.
For some odd reason this reminds me of the flight attendants on Virgin Atlantic or British Airways, which isn't really a compliment... it smells of a man in his forties. I am not impressed. It also reminds me of hair gels and sprays from the 80s. If my boyfriend wanted to wear this I would probably try my best to stop him.
I am not saying that this is a bad fragrance... it's just not my type, to be honest. In an attempt to appear masculine whoever made this fragrance had overdone it to the point all it is saying is "I AM A MAN". Thank you, I know. I wish it had a little more subtlety.
Absolutely right! This is Chanel for All! It's almost aquatic, almost citrusy, almost woody, almost smokey, almost sharp, almost smooth, almost cool, and almost warm. It's one scent fits all! The first goof-proof for Chanel house, I think! Kudo for ya! I will get one when I luck out somewhere that isn't full retail price.
This is a good fragrance it is undeniable, but nothing special or singular for a cost value very expensive. This is a chanel? Right, but a chanel for all, this is not funny. Chanel must be very sad in his grave now...
I went to the counter to try Bleu on paper - wrong. It smells the same and generic and doesn't develop depth. I sprayed it on myself; I dismissed Bleu as well as many others without letting them develop.
Turns out, after smelling the initial semi-aquatic/citrusy generic top, it started to develop just as all the Allure lines to something very pleasant after the dry down, and lasting very long, just as the other Chanel's by Polge. Appropriate for work and versatile for many seasons. I just didn't realize it at first - try and let it develop on your own skin; it may be a winner you just happen to pass up.
I somehow usually do not like fragrances for men because they often seem too sharp, watery or cheap to me. Bleu de Chanel however is an exception. It's classy, fresh and a little sweet. Not as good as Le Male by Gaultier, but I would definitely notice a man wearing Bleu de Chanel. Very expensive, but I think it would make a good gift for the man you love.
Of all the notes listed, the only one I can isolate is the mint.
Reminds me of a mijito. Lol. Citruses and mint. :P
Other than that, I don't smell much else out of this.
When I first saw this scent at Macy's I had to smell it. It had a picture of Gaspard Ulliel who is my idol on it, which is the main factor which drew me in. After I smelled it, I could not get enough. My girlfriend was with me and she agreed that it was quite an intoxicating scent. 3 months later for Christmas, I got a bottle of it. Not a very big one, but big enough to last me throughout the next few months. This scent lasts very long, more than a day ... which is rare for most scents (Male Scents anyways) that I've encountered. My girlfriend can't get enough of it. She thinks it is the best cologne she has ever smelled and believes it to be a very sexual and attractive scent. It smells wonderful and like something a man should wear. I feel elegant and manly while having it on. This will be my scent from now on, I hope it sticks around for a very long time.
There are so many prentenious and elitist snobs on these fragrance sites who seem to forget that a fragrance can just smell unapologetically great. I have tried so many exclusive scents that are held in such high esteem by the online fragrance community and have generally been underwhelmed by most of them. I do,for example, own Lalique Encre Noire and Bulgari Black but do they smell great to others? No... I see them as technical accomplishments rather than wearable. Would i ever wear them and expect compliments? No.
Bleu de Chanel, However, just smells great and whats wrong with that? You could wear this anytime, any season with confidence. This may be slightly generic but it has a lot more depth to it than the first couple of minutes would have you believe. It has a quality ambience to it and has great longevity.
A citrus-based fragrance from Chanel. The lemon and the grapefruit (mostly the lemon) dominate almost the whole drydown. The first 30-45 minutes is very citrusy, kind of a "brings you a headache" type of feel, very strong and sour. After that, they calm down a little and the ginger/mint duo comes to the front, but still very citrusy. And when the lemon dissapears (not completely) the woodsy notes start the fight for the leadership.
Well, how can i say it.. firstly, i'm not hundred percent agree with the advertising, it's mostly for the young, high school teens (from lets say, age 16). And, of course, for the guys between like 20-30, too. Sporty and - at the same time - classy enough to wear it like everywhere, it's good for every occasion and you can easily use it for every part of the day. School, date, office, a party at the night, good with suit, etc. Don't feel yourself too young to try this one.
The price is a little bit high, but it's familiar from the Chanel-house. The bottle is very classy, a real high-end stuff. Minimal design, very clear bottle with a magnetic cup. If you're a collector but don't like the juice inside too much, this could be interesting for you, so definitely take a look.
Suitable for every season, maybe light enough to be a little less for the cold weather, but i'm not sure. Longevity and projection is fairly good on my dry skin, lasts at least 6-8 hours.
Maybe it seems like an "everybody likes it" type of frag., but it's not a safe choice, so i would not recommend the blind buy, try it a couple of times before you buy. I think it's a sporty fragrance, but it's not light enough to be. It is weird. Like "if you don't stand for something you'll fall for everything". I don't recommend this one becouse of personal reasons (i have a headache every time i wear). I would go for Allure Homme Sport for a sporty scent and definitely for Allure Pour Homme to have a nice fragrance for the colder weather and wears it with elegant coat or a suit. Chanel play it safe, it's obvious, but it's not a positive thing - this is the real example.
The beauty of Bleu De Chanel unfolds as it slowly cooks on your skin. It's aromatic, fresh, sensual, and something else that is hard to detect. It evokes the feeling of being in an office or a fancy hotel much like DKNY Men (2009). The invigorating feeling of the wind passing by you while you're in downtown New York City is something that you might just experience similarly with Bleu De Chanel.
Polge is quite the trickster. When I first applied this in the department store, I instantly passed it off as another generic offering, but after sampling it for a week, the true beauty of it was layered underneath the generic opening. One of the best releases of 2010, indeed!
"Every perfume tells you a story..."-this one tells me that CHANEL really needed to boost the sales this year. They joined to the club with the other big prestige brands, where they realized that luxury business is still in the crisis and it's time to make money...well, honestly whats wrong with this?? I agree with JP that CHANEL needed to open to younger crowd. They made it! With all this marketing (who can afford to make TV advert with Scorsese? Of course CHANEL!! ) This fragrance is a really good example. And those little details can make a big difference..
When I first sniffed I felt like many of us: WTF?? This is CHANEL??! After Platinum Egoiste and all those charismatic fragrances? But still, I bought my 100ml bottle today, because I was testing it for a while on my skin and it behaves lovely!! Guys, I am telling you, you have to try it on your skin to realize the true essence of this one! A perfect choice for everyday scent: to the office, hanging out with friends, even for a date. You will get many compliments and still you can feel that you are "special" as wearing CHANEL. I feel really good with this scent on my skin and everyone needs some fragrances that you can wear anytime. This way you can better appreciate those moments, when you are wearing something special, and historical: like Platinum Egoiste for me from this house. I think that this fragrance fits to the current line of men's fragrances and really modern. It tells me the story of the modern man, who does not want to stand out from the crowd, but still wants to create something special. This is not a signature scent. Not at all. But still it has that lovely atmosphere and that chic only CHANEL can create. Masterpiece? -definitely NOT. A perfect choice for an everyday scent? Definetely YES!
If you simply close your eyes and forget about all the other thousand of fragrances on the market and everything that has been release by chanel prior to bleu de chanel, and try your best not to compare it with anything else you will find that it Bleu has a few noteworthy qualities which I find redeeming.
It's a safe, fresh, aromatic, woody, scent with decent longevity / projection, perfect for EVERY occasion and season. Sadly this is where we stop and to most viewing fragrantica have more than 1 bottle so...
Conclusion: If you have 1+ bottles it'll be a "should try". If you have 0 bottles it'll be a "must try/could buy."
Personally: I tried to not like it because of how generic it is, but I keep finding occasions to wear it and that warrants a purchase of the 50ml bottle at LEAST. Beats having to purchase a masterpiece niche fragrance, but never actually finding the time to wear it.
Don't know why do I bother leaving a comment here. Every time I express my (always respectuous)opinion it gets deleted. Is Chanel paying for having hyperinflated balloons for positive reviews?
It does smell like Nivea for men deodorant. Snobs would even love catpee if it was branded as Chanel but would despise it if they saw it at their local supermarket. I love Égoïste, Pour Monsieur and Antaeus but this is soulless.
After several weex of wearing I started to like it more and more.
It very masculine. Woods r here really quality.
It is not like other typical Chanels but very well crafted.
To associate it with Axe is utterly ridiculous.
Can be worn by anyone anywhere.
Sillage and longevity is good also if u dont have dry skin.
Dont smell it directly from skin by burying ur nose, actually most of the scents dont smell good directly from the skin, so smell the aura it creates around you. The best way to test it; spritz 1 in ur palm and spread it other and then enjoy how it smells.
At first sight the botttle looks to simple to be true. Something your two year old son could've come up with. Give it a more intelligent look. Look at the spacing between the letters. Look at the bottle from every angle. It's perfection. Chanel was known for the apparent simplicity in her work. Often people are to quick to judge. They want everything new more big and outragous then what they have ever seen before. Take a moment to understand Chanel. After being bombarded with screeming bottle designs or the general overlaod of whatever in todays world her style is more present then ever. We want to surround us with less which has more balance and is timeless.. “The seeming simplicity of a masterpiece is sure proof of its grace.” — Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel
Let me start by saying the snob in me wants to hate this. This is uninspired from a house known for amazing boundary pushing fragrances. Does that mean that this is a bad fragrance? The answer to that is NO! This is classified as a Woody Aromatic and I guess it is, but with Fresh Aquatic bits thrown in. It is not a very original scent, but that doesn't make it bad. It is a mainstream scent for sure, but it is also quite well done. This is a very modern, masculine, clean and fresh scent. Kind of combines parts on 1 Million (sweet amber fruit), Dior Homme Sport (with its ginger freshness-warm notes), YSL l'Homme (with its aromatic metallic fougère elements), with fresh floral of Jasmine and Lyral(lily of the valley) and ozone elements like AHS. Again I will say just because it isn't original in the vain of (Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste, Pour Monsieur, Allure, and even Allure Homme Sport(not that original)) does not make it bad. In fact I love this fragrance. I really wanted to hate it but I just can't. It is very well done and smells quite wonderful in the dry down. Ladies absolutely love this scent.
Longevity-on me low as 8 hours, as many as 18
Projection- Not a monster but pretty good. About 2-3 feet out usually
Season-I would say this could be worn all seasons, I've worn it in hot weather and cold, But I prefer colder weather for this one.
Occasion-Day or Night. Casual enough for work or school, but sophisticated enough for a suit and tie.
Overall-I would rate this a 8.5/10 mostly because it isn't original otherwise would be a 9.5/10
Many people will hate this cologne, but that doesn't mean its bad. I've gotten more compliments on this one than almost any other in my collection. Try this on your skin, but give it a couple hours before you decide because it gets much better later in development.
At first sniff, this is very uninspiring. A friend and I found it in the store and he spritzed some, and which I first told him it was a definite no buy. It smells fruity at first, and while not as cheap as axe, it only smells like a drug store cologne. An hour or two later it smelled much better; darker, more complex, masculine and fairly sexy. The ginger and mint were muted but still noticeable and gave it a nice spicy snap. Still, it's not a remarkable scent. Good for occasional use, but unlikely to make any lasting impressions.
Maybe the motto of the campaign "Be unexpected" isn't the right one for this one. I smelled this for a few times..at first, I was irrelevant on this fragrance, and second also. When colder weather came...on my wrist it was Bleu..but not the Bleu as i remmeber it..this one is better, more sophisticated. On the cold there are no citruses, well, there are, but the opening is so fast that it transforms immediately into the heart of the fragrance which (you cannot say anything against it) because it is so well balanced and so good mixed up that all the notes come together into the refined smell...nothing is jumping out from the composition, only in small traces there is incense, patchouli...everything is matching up. Everybody will say that you smell good, because the truth is that it smells good. It isn't Anteus, it isn't Mugler, it isn't Lutens..but it's Bleu that smells nice. On the cold weather it has something deep in itself, like the bottle of the fragrance...all year one, for the day and for the evning..I admit that mister Polge did a great job creating this one, not on the uniqueness but on the "classicness"..one that smell good with something typical from Chanel and it lasts long and intensively like eau de parfum...as it changes on the weather, maybe after all, depending on the way you carrie it, "Be unexpected" is still on...!!
found my cologne for the next five years, where ever i go im always gettin compliments, even if u haven tried it b4 jst gt urself 1 totally wont disappoint i bet ya, THIS IS THE ULTIMATE GUYZ, longevity-:ENDLESS 24hr
Well everyone is entitled 2 his/her comment bt Chanel made a killer here, i applied 4 sprays in the mornin around 07:00 goin 2 work, i met wit my girlfriend around 20:30 she asked mi if i jst got off the shower she said it smells so damn gud and even after this long its like i jst applied it an hour bak, big up 2 Dior, u jst gotta luv Bleu.
I've seen reviews where people compared it to an AXE scent. I have to totally disagree and I invite AXE to produce a scent that is just as refined as Bleu. While it smells like it has struck mainstream, it is only because it is an aromatic scent, which runs behind aquatics when it comes to popularity with the average bloke. Though it doesn't smell complex there's a lot going on behind the scent, a blending that tantalizes and teases without all the notes becoming too apparent. It smells ok on skin, but in the air it is magical, especially in cooler air. In warmer weather, I smell a lot of its spicier aspects, but in the cooler months, it smells fresh, floral and woody. As much as I would want M. Polge to create another stellar oriental, his forte in my opinion, it is a good scent, and hope that he is not backed into a corner too much as he creates more scents throughout his lifetime with Chanel.
Also I've looked at the fragrances that some of you are wearing that are bashing Bleu De Chanel. NEWS FLASH those companies wish they had the sales of Bleu De Chanel. From a business perspective it's about SALES and some of u are wearing fragrances that have Failed in that Department.......
Great fragrance my fiance' bought this for me today and I'm pleased. I admit that it's not that original but whats wrong with that. Chanel understands that the economy is bad and money is a issue for a lot of families. So they did the smart thing and did what the market dictated. I my opinion that is just smart business. In New Orleans where I live as well as the whole state of Louisiana this is the top selling men's fragrance and for good reason this is good quality stuff. Chanel is such a great house that the made an above average fragrance when they were attempting to make an average one speaks volumes about this house. To sum it up Bleu De Chanel is a winner!!!!!!!!
I got a sample for my husband to try and it smelled gorgeous on him- I tried it myself and found it hypnotic.... I love it, its sexy and warm, and very inviting..... try it?
My opinions changing by time, Chanel did damn good. Very well constructed and high quality in his genree.
A rather uninspiring frag from the house of Chanel. Its really sad that this is what we have come to hope for from a house with such prestige, This is a fresh clean scent no doubt, however there is nothing in it that makes it STAND OUT above all the other fresh scents out here. If I want something fresh, honestly I will go back to an old favorite of mine Liz Claiborne Sport which cost less $$$ than this, yet does its job very well & maybe better than what Bleu is trying to do. I am by no means impressed with this.
this is such an amazing fragrance by chanel, the open is a little ordinary and common, but the DRYDOWN, "OH MY" THE DRYDOWN is just amazing, clean, woody, with a marvelous touch of incense and woods, its an amazing frangrance by Chanel... Go Chanel, this is just a masterpice...
This one is good - but nothing above it. It's like 100 of scents out there.
This one is modern, fresh (opening) musky sweet (drydown) scent . It's nice for gift. It will be safe option. (No) big "hooorayyy" but definitely person who isn't into fragrance will enjoy it. "Chanel" brand and good modern scent will put smile on his face.
Ok, so I broke down and bought a bottle! Big woof! Wanna fight about it?! The bottle alone is what got me! I've grown to really love the scent, though. It's citrus, it's crisp, it's chilling! I think my favorite Male fragrance of the year will have to be Dolce and Gabbana's "The One Gentleman", though. D&G Pretty much don't ever fail me
Bleu de Chanel reminds me of Adidas Ice Dive, which was my favorite fragrance in high school.
The sillage and longevity are much better that Ice Dive but still don't worth the money in my opinion.
Well I finally got a sample and spent a day with Chanel Bleu. I must say that at first it was like any other citrusy/sporty scent that's come out recently...but then in time it warmed up and became something nice and vanilla-woody-and slightly spicy. It's still has that Chanel-ness to it, like the Allures, but it's modern and fresher.
I dont' know what all the fuss is about, with you guys debating the deeper meaning behind this new fragrance? " Look, it's not a life philosophy here, it's just a fragrance.. it either works for you or it doesn't!" Yes, it's a safe commercial scent, with a broad appeal.. and that's just business...especially in the current economy. But, it's still a good all round fragrance with depth and dimension. And, dare I say, it will probably go on to become a classic for the 21st century.
when i heard about this on the ad magazine.i bought it straight without testing, because i know chanel make good fragrance,..first spray first whiff of this...its probably the worst chanel i own..its not a bad thing..they shoulda at least make it better than allure...but its not...failure for me and doesnt last on my skin...i love the bottle...waste my 80bucks ....but i will still have it on my collection..but i wont use it again
A waste of everything. Terrible, terrible, terrible. If I hadn't seen the bottle written Chanel on it, I'd have doubted that this famous house had created this. Excuse me, I gotta wash it off my wrist.
I feel like Chanel played it very safe with Bleu. To me it smells reminiscent of Valentino V, which customers still ask for at the counter. Nutmeg specifically. The ads and packaging are really attractive. It smells very different on the skin from person to person, more so than Allure or any of Allure's seasonal variations. It seems to appeal to mass generations of men. It will prob be the #1 Men's launch for Fall 2010. I know the Holiday sale projections are huge.
I'm a big fan of Chanel perfumes. As I tried Bleu today, I immediately said myself: instead of paying for such a vulgar thing, I would simply pay for one so inexpensive Gillette after shave spray; Why would one Throw away money for such a cheap stuff, on earth?!!
I used to say "You can't go wrong with Chanel" but now I append this: "but if it's not Bleu!!"
Can't imagine Mr. Polge has designed this...
It's similar to Higher Energy from Dior, while Dior appears pretty much better, to my opinion.
Conclusion: Just a very casual nonsense, nothing special at all, neither energetic, nor sensual. Just save your money for something else, specially if you are 30+.
I can't believe that something so ordinany came from Chanel, the same house that gave the world such classics as No.5, Cuir de Russie, Sycomore, and for the men Pour Monsieur. A big disappointment. Shame on you Chanel.
I tried again. Starts very citric and sour. Then woody notes join. It is quite linear. I also for a while got nutmeg sweetness and labdanum.
Sillage is not super but longevity is good. Quality is ok since it is from Channel, but it is nothing new, already known theme. I would expect something unique and with personality from Chanel such as Monsieurs, Allures, Egoistes and Anteaus.
But I think still it is better than Allure Home Edition Blanche.
Buenos dias:
big disappointment, not original at all, its like doesn't belong to the house of CHANEL at all, where is this to EGOST, or ANTUAS, Mesiour, Allure home, sport, sport cologne and blanch edition??? this wiped out years of success, and defiantly gonna wipe out fans
I´ll stick to Egoiste...is the only Chanel Fragrance for men that i like...is no surprise at all that they went for the massive market that is waiting for the new woody/fresh fragrance from wherever is comming, all the Justin Beavis look alikes or whatever his name is; and all the " Fashion forward metrosexuals" will be pleased with this crap...what a dissapointment.
Bland and generic - what's happening to the perfumes from this house? At least it isn't a fruity, watery, candy-like thing, but it needs some "oomph" and personality.
I got a sample from Vanity Fair. On my arm its very citrus smelling lemons and grapefruit and nothing else. Very linear. Why did they come out with this!!!
During the last decade we experienced a very strong trend of compromising with younger customers, who sometimes can't afford, and sometimes are not interested in the sophisticated ambient and occasions that classic Chanel fragrances are created for.
Chanel No 5 had already several attempts to find its way to the hearts of ladies who want to smell not just chic, but also contemporary, and this is a great challenge for a fragrance made almost 100 years ago. The legend still works.
Almost all Chanel fragrances have their "younger" flankers; some of them are very successful, like Coco Mademoiselle, a modern stylish very Chanel fragrance. But we have not seen anything new for women since Chance (2003) and nothing worthwhile new for men - not in this millennium. At last we got Bleu de Chanel, with a very provocative
advertising film. So what is it?
"I am not going to be the person I am expected to be anymore". So, we have the new face, the new place (France? New York!), the new style (Luxury? Street!) and the new fragrance that is supposed to be a breakthrough, according to the wonderful commercial directed by Martin Scorsese.
Bleu de Chanel is a very safe fragrance. Instead of exploring new horizons, it seems as if Chanel decided to stay within a well-researched market: The theme was approved by masses long before the launch. The first impression of almost all who like or dislike the scent is that it smells "traditional". You can interpret it like "a good masculine perfume", or "just another one", whatever you like, but the truth is that it's not very new.
It starts with fresh breezy citruses and continues with spicy aromatic middle notes (nutmeg, mint, woody). No good or bad surprises, a linear but pleasant composition with good silage and average longevity. Chanel is in difficult situation: we want it old and new at the same time, i.e. something new inside the tradition. We expect a tradition from the house whose founder Coco Chanel made a revolution in fashion and fragrance. I can only greet the motto of the film, and expect a little bit more courage from Chanel.
This fragrance is interesting. First notes are very fresh mint, grape, citruses... and then the fragrance sits on your skin and changes your DNA it becomes part of you... after almost one hour of surfing in the Pacific waves today and shower I still feel it on the places where I sprayed it. OK, everything is already said, this is not a new thing but advertisement is awesome and I am pretty sure this fragrance will make it's mark.
Yep, the initial impression was "Why chanel, oh why?" Yet...strange things happened in my brain as the days passed and I kept sniffing the perfumed card placed by my mirror...
Mirror mirror on the wall, this vetiver-incense-grapefruit thing really kicks in after a while...
Great sillage.
How common becomes addictively strange?
Strange indeed...
The bottle is gorgeous, no need to mention that I guess.
I was expecting something great! Something new! Something out of the world from Chanel. But after the test, I left with a totally disappointment, don't get it wrong, it was not a bad scent, but just too ordinary, too safe IMHO, as I believe that Chanel can launch something bigger & greater!
First note is fresh citrus with little sourness, The second and the last note is very linear, doesn't evolve much, it's a warm aromatic scent with little hints of spiciness, nothing excited about the scent, appear to be a very safe choice if you are new to fragrance. Very versatile, longevity is 3 hours on me, a little weaker compare to big brother Allure Homme and Allure Homme Sport (great longevity- 6hours min).
Overall, if you are newbies and want a safe, versatile, manly scent that allow you to wear day or nite - go for it! I will give 6.5/10 for this.
It's fine. Nothing terribly special, most likely very commercially successful. Looks like they have a duty free hit on thier hands.
I like the smell, but yeah it is definitely a crowd pleaser that will be enjoyed by many guys and will probably sell a lot.
Well, it is a good pleasunt perfume but is not something that smells like no other. It reminds me Allure Sport and a touch of Egoiste Platinum. It is a good one but I expected something more unique by J. Polge and not a remix of several other perfumes. The thing is that it is a good perfume and is wellcome by everybody. Usually the unique perfumes are love or hate perfumes. This one I beleive that will sell and this is what Chanel wants.
It is an EDT with a fresh, young, sophisticated and slightly seductive. The notes have a touch input rather dry, a little green citrus, middle notes go into a blend of floral scents with wood, much like the middle notes of Platinum Egoïste but leaning a little more green or aquatic (not distinguishing where they are going well.) Base notes of fine wood, tending to slightly green notes.
An excellent choice for nights out, gives distinction and a seductive touch, suitable for both the night club to formal dinners, very versatile in that regard. Its use in the day I just deserves formal occasions. The age range I think is universal, even in teens may work well. It's not as loaded as Chanel other (which is a double-edged sword), gives casual and class distinction but more slightly, which may lose in atmosphere. Duration in skin than 8 hours. Recommended, although I think other Egoïste Chanel Allure or Platinum are a little better.
The aromatic qualities of pepper, citrus, water fruits, ginger etc. are incredible.Very relaxing to wear.Perfect men's fragrance for me.
I received this as a gift and was very excited to see the new Chanel fragrance for men.
It smells nice, but it feels generic and unoriginal to me. From the "Bleu" in its name, I had a feeling that this was going to be Chanel's attempt at a "classy" aquatic/blue fragrance for men. I was right. I agree that most people will like it, but it isn't anything groundbreaking or even remotely new. Just another safe scent that is sure not to offend anybody, which is fine for some but I expected something different. I am not hating on aquatics, but I feel like I am over them and their time is done. I am debating on returning it for Burberry London.
Reminds me BLV Notte by Bvlgari mixed with Polo Blue.
One of the only men's fragrance I would wear. It is very sexy, seductive, and woody. I would love to smell this on a well-dressed man.
This is an excellent & finely crafted men's fragrance. It is amazingly refreshing & spicy. It has a broad palette.Just cannot praise this fragrance enough. One of the very best,in my opinion.

"If you can't beat'em, join'em." I feel like Chanel has given in this time around and created another clean-fresh fragrance. I mean, what happened? This is something I expected from Azzaro or Davidoff. You know how Mariah Carey sings teenage songs, wears cutesy shirts and booty shorts and she's 40 years old? That's how I feel about Bleu. Chanel is too much of a legend to have to stoop low to appeal. I'll try it again, maybe I'll change my mind. Next stop... awaiting "The One Gentleman."
It is indeed true that Chanel has not taken many risks in this latest creation, but with that being said, the way in which Bleu de Chanel has embraced the traditional qualities found in some of the best-selling colognes over the last few decades, is very appealing.
This fragrance reminds me a little of Davidoff's Cool Water, a less fresh and much darker version of it. The scent is strong, certainly something that will cause a few heads to turn. Despite its lack of innovation, Bleu de Chanel didn't have me disappointed for long.
I would definitely enjoy smelling this on a man. It comes across as being rather clean, soapy almost. The freshness is complimented by an interesting earthy herbaceousness.
The ginger gives this fragrance character, something that people will either love or hate. In reference to the ginger note, Bleu de Chanel also has some similarities to the lovely BLV pour Homme.
Bleu de Chanel is in one word, classic. The way in which the citrus top notes counteract with the woodsiness in the drydown is commendable. With marvellous lasting strength and moderate to strong sillage, Bleu de Chanel, in my opinion, is well worth the purchase.
I tested Bleu this weekend trying to find a new scent for my fiancee. His birthday is coming up. This is delicious. I love when a man walks by that knows how to smell good, and blue would be one that turned my head! Masculine in a very slightly subtle way. Thank goodness it s not an old "brut" style scent. I cant stand those types (that almost every guy seems to wear). Blue is a scent that a man can wear that would make is mate feel comfortable and safe...perfect :)
Thank you, Chanel. It's about time that the fellas received a gift from you. This is great. I'm very confused as to how this creation could have EVER been compared to the likes of Axe and dismissed as a sell-out fragrance. This is a valiant effort for the newer generations to enjoy. Older gentleman in the know will have this in their collections. A lot of men seem to despise this, probably because it's not a hairy beast parading around in a leisure suit asking women what their signs are. But women LOVE this - and I love women. It's a bonus that I enjoy this fragrance enough to wear it for myself.
I was given this scent as a birthday gift but I brought it back as I have tried it before and did not like it. I was originally very much looking forward to its release but was very disappointed when trying it on my skin.
Of course it is not a "bad" scent but it is very homogeneous, commercial, unexciting scent.
Chanel seems to be driven by "the bottom line" at present, which is understandable in these difficult times.
Its about maximising revenues and I am sure this fragrance will open Chanel to many new customers and that I am sure was their strategy.
However, this one could have been Bulgari, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, or any other commercial brand.
Disappointingly bland and corporate fragrance.
I was reading reviews and being surprised.
Finally I tested last week. And I was shocked that it was from Chanel.
Top and mid r citrusy, sour, gingery and with a subtle jasmine note. Reminded me many others out there. It was stucked on my skin and didnt evolve, so I had to wash to get the base notes which r a little woody, slightly peppery. I also noticed the labdanum. Of course it is not comparable with Axe but it lacks the character of previous Chanel's we know.
At first it smells almost all to simple--very citrusy with wood undertones, but very pleasant. Here I thought I would experience a bit of boredom with the fragrance, but I was intrigued by the little nuances of past signatures of men's Chanel scents created in the past, namely Allure Homme, and Allure Edition Blanche, and some have said they also smell nuances from Platinum Egoiste. Slightly powdery nuances emerge and hints of warm labdanum rise from the scent as it develops, and as the drydown progresses, there is a very sharp wood note, much like the sharpness of patchouli. Overall, I felt this scent was kindred to Gucci by Gucci Sport, but much more sensual and rather more complex. Many would and have panned this new scent, but I think it keeps up with the progression of Chanel's modernity and its vision of the Chanel Man, though I wish he was much more the man in mind when the original Egoiste (Bois Noir) was created, or even Antaeus. My belief is that a monumental and iconic scent takes years, even a lifetime to create. Those that come out once every 6 months is just a passing fancy and shouldn't be taken too seriously. We'll see what happens to Bleu.
Coco Chanel would be rolling in her grave if she heard what you people are saying about this scent! This house has always made scents that were finely crafted of quality ingredients(Bleu is no different)and as someone mentioned before they are in business to MAKE MONEY, so they make what current market trends dictate: understated but refined slightly woody-spicy seems to be the popular theme du jour...
When I tried this last night at my fave frag counter, I was intrigued...more so by the controversy here than by the actual ad campaign or PR...by the release of Chanel's 1st new men's scent in 11 years. I was expecting some weak, transparent aquatic thing and my nostrils were pleasantly surprised by this juice! Bleu is not your typical BLUE scent (Thank the Gods!) it is more of a midnight blue/black in that it has resins, wood, spices along with greens, a hint of citrus and just enough floralcy to accent the overall composition without being too indolic...
The initial scent is quite citric with delicate pink pepper and nutmeg with a touch of green mint...some may find this generic, I find it refreshing. The heart of this is dry and woody and has a delightful ginger/jasmine accord to keep the wood and vetiver from being too much and adds just enough warm floral energy to the composition. The drydown is incensy and resinous (labdanum and frankincense)with earthy patchouli and sandalwood and should seem oriental but now 12 hours later I smell only a sweet smoky hint of woods...
This is Chanel through and through; while it's no Antaeus or even Allure, it is a well-made masculine scent that is predominately woody but has just enough other notes to keep it lively and fresh without commiting too much to any one olfactive classification (hence the mish-mash and "generic" reviews).Comparing this to Axe/Lynx is the same as saying Wrangler jeans are the same as True Religion, both are denim pants true but that's where the similarity ends...
Sillage: above average
Longevity: very good
Overall: 4.25/5
I have put off buying a FB of any Chanel fragrance yet because despite the fact that all of them were wonderful, none of them were "just right"for me. Bleu is perfect for the office or school but could be worn for a night out or a date. It is a well-balanced, modern scent that smells elegant and refined yet fresh and I just adore it. This one will not offend or announce your prescence before you arrive but it will make an impression because it is clean, sexy and intriguing. This is the Chanel pour moi...Exquisite and subtle, rich but not ostentatious, manly but not "macho". I look forward to getting this...
Having been one of the FEW reviewers here to have actually bought and tried the fragrance, I think you're all unecessarily harsh. It's a lovely, masculine juice. What successful upscale mass market fragrance offered today is anything more than that? All of those wonderful, strange Lutens creations do no volume sales. Chanel is in the business to make money. They already have a sterling image, with nothing to prove to anyone. A few hundred bloggers are certainly not going to hurt the sales of this new fragrance. I have it on today, love how I smell and have only gotten compliments. So there.
I had high hopes for that... But it turns ou to be a fresh nothing... Hugely mediocre and a simply forgetable perfume. I didn't expect that Chanel would come up with such a "super market" smell. The only nice thing about it, is the bottle. But I guess it's going to be a success... The clones of Cool Water are still out there trying so hard to say something new. Please, give us a break, we'll never be yours so come on to your senses...
Yeah! Finally, after days of thoughts, I've guessed what fragrance Bleu de Chanel reminds me so much. It is more citrusy and less sweet, but nevertheless copy of Biother Homme Force fragrance. Please, if you can compare them both and confirm my guess.
Interesting, that Biotherm presents its scent as just fresh and inexpensive, when Chanel... You know, though.
What a complete letdown!
I love and use old Chanel scents but this one is nothing to compare. The longest middle note painfully resembles me of CK's Euphoria. It's so average, so universal, so everybody's-choice that I would never pay the price. The longevity is nothing to write home about either. "Too blue to be black, too black to be blue" - the producer claims. C'mon, for me it's a boringly pinkish scent at best!
No, Chanel, no! I was waiting for everything, but not for this. Bleu de Chanel presents synthetic type of freshness, in this way it is comparable to Diesel Only the Brave, for example. But if the Diesel has its individuality, Chanel - doesn't have. I was trying to remember, what fragrance Bleu de Chanel reminds me... Finally, I've understood that the beginning of Bleu is the full copy of Axe deodorant spray in a green bottle, that I used some time ago. One in one! Then the Chanel becomes woodier and more elegant, maybe, but... Nevertheless it is the scent of Lacoste quality, it is NOT Chanel... I can't believe. Such a shame!..
Classy sharp scent¡ Masculine, solid longevity (it's Chanel) It's like a modern version of Antaeus. Similar to Armani code or Bvlgari BLV. Suitable for romantic or formal occasions.
Looking at the notes alone & with the understanding that I admire many Chanel male scents I should be in rhapsody about this fragrance when it graces my skin. But I'm not.
It's not to say that this isn't a nice perfume, I just expected more from Chanel.
It is as if they thought: "We've done some really swanky sporty frags with zest, zeal & punch (Edition Blanche, Sport etc), & we pretty much nailed the warm, rich & opulent side (Allure) & the fierce classic (Antaeus) & as for spicy woods, we got that one to a "T" (Egoiste)...they were all pretty popular...so how's about we kinda mix them all together & make sure that it is neither too classic, nor too modern"...& so was born Bleu - which, to my nose, isn't very "blue" either & more a shade of steely-grey.
For me it is a well-blended, safe, woodsy, warm yet fresh, hedge-your-bets scent. To liken it to a Lynx deoderant is a little harsh...but it is easy to see how the comparison was made.
I have a few of these "nice" scents in my wardrobe & they never seem to get the wear. They just don't have a voice. Bleu is your average suit hurrying down the city streets for work - you just don't see the face, the person, the personality. I'd prefer the scent-equivalent of this guy on his day off, or after he removes his tie & starts to become an individual again.
So, Bleu: you will feel manly, you will feel comfortable, you will feel appropriate, you will not repel, you may well disappoint, but you certainly will not wow or woo.
I tried this today. Smelled really good on paper. On my skin, smelled soapy and like any other cologne. Beautiful bottle, though. I'll see if I can force myself to like it. The bottle is too beautiful not to have.
Well, I have received now a 50ml spray bottle. I was surprised of the fragrance itself, but far away to say it is an AXE deodorant tipe of smell. Just as you can see from the package ( yes, it has an les exclusifes magnetic cap ) it is a strong male parfume, with a lot of character and very traditional. I'm not so good in explaning the parfiume sensations in words, but it is male, virile, forced with not even one flower, sweet note or femminine lookalike note. First sprayed it is vibrant and you smell some citrus but very soon, and for a very looong time after that the core is what remains. Sandalwood, benzene and some small vetyver and cedarwood I'd say. Strong, persistant and after few hours I liked it moore. It is clear that Chanel made it with a lot of effort, quality, and sense, but I would place it to an older, more serious kind of man (well dressed and much less sprtive than me with my 37 years).
It is worth of trying, and give him the second chance, it has his own character.
