I bought this for my husband for christmas. I though is smelled great on the card, on him ...eh. Not worth it, sometimes even a turnoff.

"Be unexpected" is the tagline for this fragrance - the even more surprised I was of how "unexpectedly" generic it is. It really embodies what could be the stereotypical men's fragrance.

That said, Bleu de Chanel is very well blended and I think it is quiet appealing. On my skin: A fresh start (mainly citruses with a bit of mint) and a warm drydown (soft incense and cedar rounded off with floral accents).

I would recommend this to men who are looking for a well composed, typical men's perfume.

I just wanna say oh mi gosh! I found this one yesterday from my personal haircut. This is a great smoky scent and spicy warming. It so soft and warm. Absolutely crush for incense, ginger and vetiver. I don't care about citruses at all. I really love this one just like a love at first sight. Feel so good. My next fragrance. Put it on my wish list!

Should I be ashamed of wearing this fragrance as a woman? This perfume leaves me with a fresh and highly addictive scent that gets along beautifully with my ph.
Smells great on my beau aswell!

-In addition to my 1st review of this fragrance-
There was a perfume I smelled once many years ago, that was called "Captain" by Molyneux (I couldn't remember the name until today:)) which is extremely close ( and more pleasant as well) to this one.
Of course I could be wrong (but that's rare, my nose has the memory size of an elephant) so if someone could verify this it would be nice.

an advice: if you absolutely need to buy something "Bleu", go for the after shave lotion. It really smells better than the perfume!

Bleu De Chanel is a fresh, mildly spicy fragrance with surprising depth and excellent structure. The grapefruit, lemon, and ginger keep the top bright and energetic while the incense and woods lend purpose to the full-bodied heart.

Bleu is an extremely versatile fragrance, well-suited for any season, occasion, or age. It is appealing to others and never becomes cloying or intrusive. I think a lot of people make the mistake of judging it immediately upon application, and write it off as a typical 'fresh' fragrance. But it is more than that. Bleu is more robust than your average fresh fragrance, it lasts longer, and its construction is of a much better quality. The notes and accords in Bleu interact very well with one another and and exhibit many subtle complexities throughout the development of the scent. When I first smelled Bleu in a department store I was quick to shrug it off as bland an unimpressive. But then I got a bottle and began to wear it, and after several wearings I understood how good a fragrance this actually is.

I would recommend Bleu to any guy looking for a quality, fresh fragrance that can be worn comfortably anywhere at anytime and still portray class with a certain degree sophistication.

Thumbs up.

This has to be one of the best colognes I have smelled in a while. At first, I did not like this cologne at all!!! I felt it didn't stand out, and had similar notes to other basic Blue (Bleu)colognes. But, I realized I based my judgement off the card that's spray at the retail stores.

So, I tried it again, this time on my skin, and wow!!!! After hours passed, the scent changes for the better. At first, I get a fresh lemon scent, then I feel it dries down towards a wonderful tea/incent scent. The longevity of the cologne I found last more than 6 hours on me (stays on clothing till the next day), and actually lasted overnight (8 hours of sleep). Sillage is great at first spray, but then gets closer to the skin after an hour or so. But, these are based upon my body reaction to the cologne. Everyone is different.

I have become obsessed with this smell, but I only use it sparingly. Chanel does any amazing job with this scent.

I love Blue by Chanel. I know its not for everyone and I am glad. too often a new scent comes out and everyone has it (Le Male)

I was walking around Milan after my meetings late in the year 2010 and saw the Blue add in the window with "new fragrance from Chanel" written. Just what I was looking for something new. less than 5 mins later I was walking out with my purchase, thats all it took. I instanly fell in love with this new addition to the line of Chanel EDT for men. I got the fresh sent of lemon and citrus right away but there was something else I could not define that made it feel luxurious and refine. I cold see it on me with my suit and tie. Sure enough it has been a hit for me. I get complements all the time. and yes I do see people lifting their nose to get a better hit of the scent.
I was afraid to the silage because I usually don't like having my cologne projecting radius around me, but with this one it really is a treat. i have recognized it on others and realize that it is different. My son wheres it on occasion and I notice that it is spicier on him than on me. I get more of an incense with citrus. The dry down is down right sexy! what you would expect a man to smell like at the end of the day, a balmy, jasmine, vetiver, soft woody hint.

I had a salesman try pushing this on me (must be an enormous markup) and I did not care for the fragrance. Started out citrusy and fresh and after a few minutes incense/sandalwood came forward to mingle with the citrus. Over the next couple hours the citrus receeded and florals/jasmine came forward for several hours making for an extremely feminine fragrance. I certainly would never purchase this one to wear myself.

If you are looking for a fresh smelling fragrance without the floral/feminine notes then Blue Seduction is a much better choice and a whole lot cheaper!

This is a fragrance that completely takes on the characteristics of whomever’s wearing it and smells different every time. I smelled this on someone over the weekend and was shocked to find that it was this. I typically don’t like this Chanel and cannot understand what all the fuss is about. This time though it smelled quite nice. I’ll give it a try.

A very high quality and original mix.

I just can't understand why some find it mainstream and just because it has many shared notes with other fragrances doesn't mean that it is generic.

It is very well balanced although it has some contrasting notes in it.

A very versatile and modern fragrance for a man to wear throughout the year.

Altogether nothing special. I love the opening but don't really like the dry down. Its masculine and probably long lasting but i don't smell this on me after one hour. :P High quality ingredients and well blended notes makes this frag quite well-done.

i have heard a lot about this perfum. i enter a perfum store at Lagos airport and got a spray. first 20min was not impressive at all, i left the perfum store, my flight was delayed for another hour. i sat down and was browsing the internet, suddenly i started smelling something very beautiful, i thought it was the lady that just sat beside me, shortly after that she left and i was still smelling it, i remembered i tested a perfum and i smell my wrist and discovered something AMAZING! it was time to board, i rushed down to the store to buy it. the lady sitting next to me inside the plane asked me what i was wearing after we came down.

Rating

Projection: 7/10
Scent Quality: 6/10
Longevity: 7Hrs

Review: i have to review my early comment, this perfum is a big hype. seriously noting special at all, very soapy and chemical like. pls get Versace Pour Homme instead of this.

The opening on this one is nice...smells like a beefed up "sport" scent. Citrusy lemon, a bit of the pepper, the patchouli and jasmine are noticeable also. Synthetic, reminiscent of allure homme sport. Lasts about 15 minutes. The heart has this funky salty/metallic "aqua" vibe. I guess that's where the "bleu" comes from. Really hate this part. The citrus fades and after about 2 hours the nicest part of the fragrance kicks in with the incense coming through mixed with the ginger. If you could skip right to this part the cologne would be awesome.

Monstrous sillage and above average longevity (at least 6 hours). Winter scent. DO NOT OVERSPRAY.

After getting this last year as a birthday present and initially thinking it smelled ok, I was hoping it would grow on me as I wore it. I have to say that's not the case. As many people here have already said, it smells "pedestrian"...it's almost like they decided, let's put together a bunch of scents that smell great and see what happens. It's way too busy, too many notes that don't go together in my opinion. It's very heavy and probably wears better in a drier climate (france).

Surprisingly, this one gets a lot of compliments. I don't know why but women like the way this smells. And so with that, I will keep trying to make myself like this one.

BLEU? not at all, citrus is very noticeable in the opening yes but then comes the incense right away and that's when this fragrance turns really dark for me. Compliment getter? yes. Impressive? no. Definitely not nearly as awesome as the Allure line. Longevity and projection are just ok. Overall BLEU is just a regular everyday scent that is very versatile, very well done and great for someone wanting something that just smells good for all year round or someone just starting with fragrances. An everyday ordinary Chanel... who would've thought. UNEXPECTED, right?

Jacques Polge has clearly formulated Bleu to play very pianissimo. Either it is designed to encourage generous application to extract the true beauty within, or it really is meant to be a skin scent dwelling on the edge of detection.

Personally, I have chosen to apply very liberally, and it does indeed become more expansive, with the subtle aquatic mood swings being very entertaining. I have found it almost impossible to over-apply, and consequently it has great use for those safety first occasions.

There is much more to Bleu than a single wearing will reveal, and Polge has pulled off the neat trick of making the generic eminently wearable. By no means exceptional, but still very good

By far the best creation of Chanel for men is Allure Homme. Allure is in my opinion a benchmark for warm, feel-good perfume. However; I find Chanel's 2010 creation Bleu is a great pair for Allure. I am not sure why no one so far in reviews mentioned it's similarity with Eau Sauvage. It shares the same vibrations as Eau Sauvage after around 2 hours. However, I find this to be stronger cousin of Dior's masterpiece- which lasts longer and doesn't challenge nose as much- it's pretty linear for at least 3/4 hours. Other difference is that it's cleaner in vibe than Eau Sauvage and safer scent to blind buy. This is for people who like 'Bright'/ 'Fresh'/ 'Uplifting' / 'Pleasant' and 'Long Lasting' perfumes. Floral heart notes may appeal female wearers equally. It is very close to being unisex to my nose. But initial citrus blast may be overpowering to the soft feminine perfume lovers. Full marks to this amazing creation. Common but Uncommonly appealing scent in in my view.

I am truly dissapointed by Chanel. The sales associates pushed this one heavily when it first launched. I thought that it did not smell so great at all. Last weekend i had family in from out of town and a friend was wearing this. I thought that it was Angel for men actually. He said it was Bleu and it sealed the fate of this Chanel as to never be owned by me. Why all the fuss? I dont get it...

Even after a year, this still smells pedestrian to me. But still getting compliments. I had to sample this 5 times since it was new at the time, and every sales associate kept on giving me samples.

Smells like ginger, citrus, mint to me. To the females, I don't ask...they just like it. In the office, just an every day non-offensive scent. I have worn fahrenheit in the office, which I love, but that was quite a bit too potent for the the office.

I found something that smells similar to bleu, but more interesting and less bland that I will be getting this season.

I smelled this one last Christmas and thought it was very nice. The sales associated brought this one forward again this year and as it would happen, the sales associate was the same one from last year. I believe that this is the one that she likes most from Channel, and she appears to be in her 20's. For my taste of what I would like to smell on my husband I chose Egoist (manly)! Bleu is very nice, nothing to offend, but imho, young, modern and pedestrian. More of a comfort scent. I understand the appeal, but for the money, I placed mine elsewhere.

Sniffed myself a sample in an ESPN magazine a few months back, and I was incredibly underwhelmed. While it doesn't smell bad, it's NOT worth the price Chanel's asking. On Amazon, 3.4oz is $113 ... highway robbery. The scent is pretty generic, and the longevity is average/poor. For the price alone, I highly suggest you pass on this.

Vibe: Fruity cocktail with ginger.

Top: For me Blue starts with Quality Citrus and sweet fruits, a great uplifting opening, a bit young but with amazing class. duration 5-10 mins

Heart: High quality Spices attack, the fruitiness persists, but the citrus fades, vetiver and ginger make their appearance very prominent. duration 4-6 hours. It transforms into a more mature scent (20-40yrs)

Base: I notice some woods mixing with ginger and vetiver,it doest project but leaves a smooth trail. 4 hours

Overall a very good to great scent,(jack of all trades but master of none) market pleaser, compliment getter, medium projection but high duration as all chanels, great longevity.

sillage 8
duration 9

seems to lack the 5th element, ether, the element of perfect harmony, the super "it" factor that separates the great from the "unique"

definitely has nice longevity. a spray or two lasts me most of the day. it has a nice sillage, not too overbearing, but definitely detectable. i am very fond of this fragrance overall. it has a classy formality, but also fits into semi-casual situations well enough to really be good for almost any occassion. my ONLY complaint is that it sometimes gives me a headache (as does 212 men, which i find has something similar on the drydown).

i must make it clear that i have always been prone to headaches from certain fragrances (i'd love to find out what the cuase is) and it doesn't always happen with bleu de chanel (or 212 men). but definitely go light on it, because it is a strong fragrance and there's no need for more than one or two sprays. i am quite satisfied with this fragrance will continue to wear it proudly. it has received numerous compliments from women of all ages (although one younger girl did say it smelled a little to "old" for her liking). wear it with class :)

Chanel Bleu, ugh, how should I describe you?

You're like my father, sophisticated, easy to relate to and clever.

You are different from most men your age- but too afraid to step out of your comfort zone to show it. You don't like to offend anyone and you are a pretty gentle guy. Everyone likes you. Very few hate you.

That describes Chanel Bleu- it's very similar to Aqua Di Gio, yet different. Very similar to Dolce and Gabannna Light Blue, but still different.

Bleu De Chanel wanted to make a big statement, but not offend anyone, and, uh, it did it's job pretty damn well.

Great longevity and projection, while smelling quite good. This is a perfect cologne for work or every day casual wear, but it is somewhat boring to me.

Everything about this cologne is intoxicating to me, it is strong, masculine, confident, and mysterious! I find the combination of fruity and spicy notes very complimentary to each other. I have noticed that both men and women react quite fondly to this cologne, men want to wear it and women want their men to wear it, which is a win-win situation for any man. I like its somewhat dark and enigmatic nature...

Tried this at the store today and compared it with Allure Homme Sport. I still don't understand why everyone is hating on this so much!! This is definitely a very generic fragrance. It has a little bit of every single "fresh-citrus-musky" juice in the market (i.e. Platinum Egoiste, Acqua di Gio, CK One, D&G Light Blue, Allure Homme Sport, Dior Homme Sport...even some of the nasty Axe/Lynx line) but with "quality ingredients" that doesn't make any justice to the overall smell.
This new creation of Monsieur Polge smells cheap and very mainstream (I know I'll make some enemies in the community with this statement, but it's my humble opinion). If you compare this with the original Égoïste, you can't believe that this fragrance was created by the same nose. It's amazing the lack of creativity!.

All I can detect from Bleu (or "Blah") is a mix of a very realistic, sparkling and refreshing fruity accord in the opening (grapefruit and ginger maybe?), some mint, a dash of frankincense (or some kind of resinous note) and some pale woods and spices in the base to hold together the previous notes. Nothing more. In fact, the opening of Bleu is the only part that deserves some attention and recognition for not using gallons of the hideous calone note.
The drydown is poor in complexity and smells like some cheap bodyspray with a decent and "Chanelesque" woody accord to justify both the price and the brand behind this insipid tribute to the actual "citrus Era".
Projection is good/mediocre in the inital hour or two, then comes close to the skin. The longevity is very poor (4 hours on my skin)

Overall, a very boring and "ok" fragrance for everyday use, nothing spectacular or special. Women seems to like it, but it's not a panty dropper in any way.

If you like fresh-musky fragrances, try it.
If you love it, do yourself a favor and buy Pierre Cardin's Revelation; its the same scent, the same notes (grapefruit, mint, incense and some woods) for US$30 or less (Bleu de Chanel is soooo overpriced!)

I got a sample Vial of this.
First impression, VERY Citrus Lemon. Clean & Clear. then a clear & obvious Grapefruit.
Slowly dries to a sweet musty oily berry-like, almost Vanilla.
Very pervasive cloud of Lemon-Leather lingers around me.
Not at all what i'd expect from a Blue image. But some say it's like.... Cool Water by Davidoff. I expected something Ozonic & Marine, but i was wrong.
It's good, but not groundbreaking or terribly unique. on a personal note, it just doesn't seem to match my body musk very well, it turns it into a sour "Waxy" pencil like impression i notice people saying.
Sorry, but Jacque Polge must've had a cold when formulating this.
..... on second thought, it's a rather Attractive take on Lemon Leather, in all fairness, i kinda like it now.

This is an extremely-complex creation. Yes, the blast of initial top-notes is similar to others out there, but patience will teach one that the calm comes after the storm- that's when I am in awe! It is very sexy, very elegant, very warm with a slightly cool distance. Not your typical day frag- it has too many evening elements as well: choose your own time. I don't see Ceylon cinnamon listed, but that is the strongest note that I smell. Definitely. But it is merely the thinnest of veils over a plush cushion.

Once upon a time living in Paris was Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel. She was a great creative designer with an out-of-the-box thinking. Certainly in the fragrance department. Without Madame Chanel the world would never have sniffed 'Chanel nr 5', Chanel nr 19'... She died in 1971 at 87. The fashion house was sold to Pierre and Alain Wertheimer, sons of 2 grandpa Wertheimers, in the 1910's owners of 'Bourjois' perfumery who bought the rights to the legendary Chanel nr 5 (a money maker as there is no equal in the pefumery history, I think) in 1924 for a whopping 10% of the stock in the whole Chanel company! Coco fought 20 years against 'the bandits who screwed me' and regained control over her firm. But after her death in 1971 Alain Wertheimer, the grandsson of Coco's foe, became majority owner. He changed the house into an über commercial firm where marketing is key and all the rest dispensable. Old men who made Chanel what it is today -Karl Lagerfeld (78) for the clothes, Jacques Polge (67) for the fragrances, are almost gone. And the future for the House of Chanel looks bleak, if we have to judge by this newest Chanel fragrance for men, launched in 2010. To follow the legendary 'Egoiste'(1993) and decent 'Allure pour Homme' (1999) but recently reformulated, with this disaster, is insulting for the faithful Chanel fragrance buyers. Anyway. 'Bleu' was launced in 2010. Nose-on-duty was Chanel-pillar Jacques Polge, who obviously had a bad day when churning out this scrubber.
Mind you I'm a big fan of most Chanel fragrances. 'Coco', 'Nr 5', 'Egoiste'... all masterpieces. But 'Bleu' is not only 'meh', it is 'bweh'!. I tested it on my male skin. First of all there is a great difference between the spectacular notes listed and what you actually smell. And no, it was no fake I tested and I have never had one fragrance that didn't 'took' on my skin. There is no 'top middle and base' pyramid. Madame Coco turns in her grave 'now'! The notes are: Labdanum, Nutmeg, Ginger, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Mint, Jasmine, Grapefruit, Citruses, Vetiver, Incense, Cedar, Pink Pepper. Admit: this sounds great, yummy yummy, all the makings for an impressive masculine.
But actions speak louder than words. The fragrance on the skin tells a whole other story than on paper. First this fragrance is very subdued. It doesn't jump at you and announces to you and the world around you: 'Here I am, a true Chanel!'. This 'Bleu' is as impotent as 'Cool water' and 'Aqua di Gio'. They should have put Viagra in it instead of nutmeg. It is labeled a 'Woody Aromatic'. Don't believe the hype: this is an 'Aquatic' pure and simple. And an expensive one at that.
When you apply it, first you get some subdued citruses, grapefruit without the bitterness and the -for my taste very annoying- mint that make an immediate lukewarm appearance. Luckily the energetic ginger can be detected. Labdanum, cedar, patchouli and incense are for me all but quasi undetectable or far, far away in the background. They make no meaningful contribution tho this scented water in any way. A real shame, because these are the notes that can bring depth and strongness to a 'masculine' fragrance. Instead we get vetiver, pink pepper, jasmine and a bit of nutmeg and sandalwood.
If this sounds like a mess, it is because it is a mess! It smells very weak, very unoriginal, very 'copy cat' or 'rip off', very run-of-the-mill, very Chanel-unworhty. I expect much, much more from a Chanel, certainly at this price: 83 dollar for a 50 ml EDT. And I am apparently not alone. Let's face it: Chanel anno 2011 is a privately owned firm that has to churn out a fragrance regulary to keep the very large marketing department going and earn money. Stylish Madame Coco be damned! And nose Jacques Polge has to fulfill his contractual obligations. He has great-grandkids to feed. Even if the inspiration of his best days is gone, he has to put in office hours.
So when you buy this you don't get 'a CHANEL', meaning a perfumery masterpiece. You get Cool Water Light. The ultimate insult for a fragrance is to label it 'boring'. Well 'Bleu' is booooring big time. Why would you buy it? What is the unique selling point? There are tens of men's fragrance out there that are as bad as this. But you pay one fifth or less of the price. Worthy alternatives in the same price bracket are: 'Dior Homme Intense', 'Dior Fahrenheit', 'Gucci pour Homme', 'Burberry London for men'.
'Bleu' was a big mistake, a rip off, an oversight... or everything together. The decent thing to do for Chanel would be to admit their mistake and discount this baby heavily. But even then I personally wouldn't buy it. It's sad. Monsieur Polge: time to enjoy your retirement, you're 67 and have made some exeptional fragrances. Please leave the perfumery before you destroy your reputation with expensive cr*p like this. Madame Chanel: RIP!

The word i use to describe bleu de chanel is meh. There is nothing wrong with it but theres not much right with it either.

Its a perfectly acceptable fragrance and does have a nice ginger note to it but i expect more from chanel.

The longevity and sillage are good but i dont know whether i want to project such a boring fragrance. There is also some weird pencil shaving smell i get which i dont like. I have half a bottle of this left and it feels like a chore to use.

Its basically what would happen if you took everything unique and tasty out of terre d'hermes.

Chanel needs to learn from this mistake.

This one appears to be very modern, but not to my taste. Are the 2010s all about generic stuff? Anyway, this one's so heavily advertised that you can't ignore it, but for that reason alone never should wear.

I tested this fragrance several times before I bought it,because it never appeald to me.But the supprice happend after a had this fragrance.

It needs time to properly disect this one and love.Give it a time. The outcome:Bleu de Chanel is georgeous fragrance. It`s total Chanel in it`s veins. The scent is extremely pleasant and invigorating. It will appeal to everyone and will not offend. It`s refreshing tonic, makes you feel great and masculin.Distinctive,it is unexpected,it`s freedom.

Somebody compares it to Aqua di Gio or Bulgari Aqua but BLEU has nothing in common with those fragrances.Bleu de Chanel is league on its own.

It is woody fragrance with fresh tone all the way till the drydown.Opens citrusy with traces of pink peppercorn, vetiver and peppermint. The opening is blast of energy and stimulation.
It continues with grapefruit, jasmin, nutmeg cedarwood and cistus labdanum. The middle retains the freshnes and continues with ginger, patchouly, sandalwood, moss and frankincense till the drydown.

Bleu de Chanel is very complex fragrance in its composition and the mastery of Chanel can be seen all the way.I have 120+ fragrances of all genres and none is alike. It is very versatile, you can wear it all year around.People will compliment you, and you will feel great. The projection is excelent as well as the longevity.

I recomend you to buy Bleu de Chanel, you can even do the blind buy and I am certain that you will never regret.
Some people ban this because it doesn`t stink but smells wonderfull.Casual, luxurious, class, refinement and covered sexines. That is Bleu de Chanel.Feel manly and be approached, fell energized and allow other to come close to you.BE UNEXPECTED!

I like most things that come from Chanel, but I was totally prepared to hate this scent. I really disliked the ad campaign, disliked the way it was being pegged for a very limited audience, disliked the name (another blue/water/cool scent?!?) I finally sprayed some on a blotter at a department store today and I was so pleasantly surprised.

This is a solid, inspiring perfume. The opening is excellent (my favorite part I think,) ginger and pepper and mint, like a gentle sparkling. Not too long afterward, the wood comes in and it's a gentle woody scent (like rose wood or just a touch of cedar,) and there are some resins in there too, although I can't place them. I put just a dab on my skin and it had a pleasant ending - vetiver, a touch of clove (this may be the incense note) and then a oaky trail.

Bleu is so much more subtle and nuanced than a lot of these reviews give it credit for. I was genuinely surprised at the juxtaposition of scents and sensations - from bright and crisp to smooth and velvety. I feel that it does fit with the other Chanel men's scents; having that characteristic 'scented geranium' feel that you find in Egoist and Pour Monsieur. I would gladly own a bottle of this.

Well... what should I say, I tried this three times after gettin samples and was asked (funnily)three times too if I was wearing aqua di gio(by the way, am one of the only people in the world who loathes Aqua di gio),maybe they were on crack hehe I was both shocked, kinda ashamed and insulted, ever since then I´ve never ever wanted to try it anymore, there was a time when Chanel WAS Chanel, if one cant tell the difference between this and Armani Aqua Di Gio then I surely dont want it. Besides, I respect the reviews of members here and all but whoever thinks it has similarities with Libre from YSL is... well dont wanna be rude but thats absurd, Libre is a thousand times better and completly different. Dont get me wrong guys, its not bad, its woody and chilly in a good way but its JUST BORING. Nothin special, on the other hand Libre is lively, spicy and warm, WAY better than this, galaxies better....

The Story:
My brother's friend has this and he like to spray alot of it on. It smells good on him and I'm glad he made the effort when he went out for dinner with my family. But now, this smell will always remind me of my brother's slow-to-warm-up friend. Who looks like my brother.

The Smell:
Bleu de Chanel smells like "fresh man". No "sexy" here. Just a "I put cologne on to smell decent for once" type of ordeal.

Bleu de Chanel's effervescent citrus top and thin, woody-sweet drydown is so unremarkable that I'm intrigued. What else is going on here? What am I missing?

In truth, the drydown reminds me a little of Silver Mountain Water. The sandalwood and spice notes fail to offset the sweetness of the grapefruit and jasmine in the base. The arrangement is clean-smelling, fresh, grey-pink. Blue is not a color I associate with Bleu de Chanel.

It's okay, but frankly not something I'd wear. Call me cranky, but I'm getting tired of masculine fragrances that smell like sport deodorant.

Every time I smelt this perfume, I got something different, I totally mixed up and then I decided to test it thoroughly and then do comment.
So, first let me say I don't know if I'm a fan or not cause it surprised me at first and left me alone later.
It starts with a tone, then changes to another and then another and then.... and the more you obsess, the more you upset! This one includes not only a touch of all Chanel men perfumes, but also some other lines; it's a multi-perfume!
So what remains? An unidentifiable characteristic.
But mainly it's a fresh lemony aquatic powdery happy official perfume, yet chic and inoffensive. Not my cup of tea this time.

Well, it's not BAD. I just think that its a very mature scent. A little too stuffy for me. It would be an instant hit with a 55+ man who just wants to go out to dinner with his wife. He's wearing a blazer on top of a polo shirt and some khaki pants. There's just nothing modern or friendly about this one. I will say that its a nice fragrance but it is stereotypical to me.

The blend of the ingredients however is right on. Not too much of this and not too much of that. I wouldnt call it boring but I could personally see myself passing this up when i get dressed and later on feeling guilty that i didnt wear it more. Its also capable of getting a complement on the street that would possibly make you want to wear it more. I dont think i would buy it though.

Warm, like a thick, comfortable blanket. 100% masculine, but not offensive or overpowering. It is dark, attractively dirty, but nicely softened with a medium dose of sugar. The result is rich, earthy, but undeniably pleasant.

Just a touch of citrus to brighten up the whole arrangement. Unlike other colognes however, the citrus doesn't make it too sharp or clean.

I wouldn't describe it as "blue," but very dark brown, almost black. You might say the dash of citrus makes it just aquatic enough to make it a very, very dark blue.

An expression of an idealized masculinity. Perfect for a younger man or teen who wants to enhance and project a gentle but insistent strength. Wear it if you need a little more hair on your chest.

But not for a man's man, who doesn't need to project additional masculinity. An older man is better served by something more sophisticated and personal, something less indulgent, and a bit more mature.

It’s not necessarily an inevitable outcome that a Big Seller will be bad. It’s not wrong to design a perfume intended to find a large middle of the consumer market. I don’t have a problem with the notion of Bleu. Bleu’s approach, evidenced by the fresh-citrus-woody genre chosen and the advertising is to attempt the big, new masculine that straight men will be comfortable with, straight women will like on them, and gay men will consider (the television ads are apparently deliberately homophilic.) And given Drakkar Noir’s history, Bleu could very well have the lesbian demographic in hand as well.

But marketing isn’t the problem. The fragrance is. It’s loosely handsome, offers decent but not bothersome projection and stays within the fresh/woody né eau de cologne range that generally shouldn’t offend. But there is a shrill sweetness, more aspartame than sugar or fruit, that becomes dominant as the topnotes fade and lasts through drydown. To my nose it’s disproportionate, a miscalculation.

The best way I can describe it is by diet soda analogy. Artificial sweetener in a cold, fresh Diet Coke is just fine. In a room temperature, flat Diet Coke, you wouldn’t touch it. (Bleu is the warm, flat counterpart in ths analogy.)

I think most of the negative or so-so reviews on this fragrance are from guys. I got one of those little paper samples in a sale flyer in my paper one day, and I had to keep smelling it all day long. I don't know what is in this stuff (pheremones?) but I found it intoxicating. Guys, if you're wearing scent for your own enjoyment, wear what you want. If, however, your focus is on success with the ladies....

WEAR THIS EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!

I personally would jump any man who smells like this! Seriously, there's something in it that will drive women wild!!

I must agree with @muskymale in this discussion -- there's a great deal of hype around Bleu, and frankly this lacks the x-factor of most Chanels. I would almost go so far as to say that it's the attempt of this house to market to a younger demographic. @Raptole also got it almost right in his assessment that he's 18 and he loves it, but I beg to differ as a mid-40's male who's established his tastes that this would suddenly change his whole wardrobe.

This is, in a word, ordinary. It's pleasant, it's nice, it's inoffensive, and smells more youthful thanks to the emphasis on grapefruit and citrus notes. In this mixture, I suspect the other woody and spicy elements (incense, cedar, nutmeg) are almost too muted and too fleeting. If I was younger and wanted a summer fragrance, I might consider this, but it lacks that certain appeal, depth, and intrigue that captures me from first sniff to eventual dry-down and evaporation. The consensus appears to be that it has its own character, and after a couple of good samplings, I would agree. But it's not a character that, in my view, smells much different from too many other citrus-noted frags on the market. It's unremarkable.

After searching for months, I finally found my signature scent. I can't believe I actually ignored this perfume the first day I went to fragrance boutiques!

I immediately fell in love the first time I sprayed this on my wrist. It's clean and fresh, but it has that mysterious and dark vibes to it, thanks to the incense notes. I've been using this for a few months now, and I haven't got bored with it.

The opening notes are wonderful. It's like a creamy citrus with a hint of ginger and incense. The top notes are the best, IMO. Then, the fragrance develops and the ginger notes come into the spotlight, mixed with the vetiver, mint and jasmine. Although I'm not a big fan of gingers in scents, this one is an exception. The base notes of Bleu are fantastic. I smell metals and woods harmoniously mixed with one another.

I've gotten so many compliments with this perfume. Yes, it's generic, but so what? I love it, and my friends do, as well.

10/10. No, actually make it 11/10.

I'm no fan of the chanel line. Most of their fragrances have a creamy citrus that really gets to my stomach. However bleu de chanel has to be the only chanel fragrance I will consider purchasing. It doesn't have that nasty creamy note from the allure lines and it isn't old fashioned like plat egoiste. This fragrance isn't unique or amazing, however its extremely versatile and safe. And yes I don't know why but girls love this stuff.

My experience with bleu was the very first time i smelled this i thought, "smells very familiar, kinda generic, good but generic, kinda like polo blue". Well i ended up blind buying it. Fast forwad a couple weeks later i ended up swapping it because my nose would get irritated from it (the top notes of ginger and grapefruit)" also keep in mind this was around march spring time. A couple months pass and ran into someone basically giving it away so i decided to give it another shot. Now this was in mid-June when i got it.

WOW just WOW first time i wore it out in the heat it was amzing! Somehow for me it works much better in heat. Top notes did not become irritating in fact i love the top notes, great longetivity and projection (8hrs) on my skin. One thing i have to say is don't overspray because it can get cloying after 4-5 sprays MAX. This to me still smells unoriginal, generic, but a WELL DONE QUALITY scent. Out of all the chanels this would have to be the "everyday" scent.

I would mostly recommend this one for summer days, maybe fall because of the incense and spicyness to it. To me unlike the other chanels this one is not worth the hefty price it carries but i guess it's since it bares the chanel logo...

Bleu d chanel is not purely a unique fragrance, many of you have smelled something like this once in your life. So it is lacking originality. But it is very different to to those sweet toned male fragrances which are prevailing the perfume industry now a days. It is something a Pure man should smell like. It falls in the category of Aromatic/Spicy perfumes. The best thing is the addition of mysterious notes of metal, smoke and aldehydes. Silage and longevity is just which is needed for this type of perfume, the both the features are actually fair enough. One thing that disappoints me is its price, its way too expensive and this thing repels many genuine buyers.
Nonetheless, it is the third perfume from chanel which held me after Antaeus and Allure Sport.

I give it 8.5 out of 10.

This is what a real man should smell like! OK, Im just 18 years old and I loved this fragrance, i had the 1.7 oz bottle, had the shower gel, after shave balm and Real Deo Spray. I had the whole set. It was amazing! But this is not for my age, this is for a 45 year old man. I picture a 45 year old doctor who has 2 kids in high school. A loving wife at home and he is not rich but can easily afford stuff. This is the kind of impression this cologne leaves. I will keep the bottle because it has a magnetic cap and it kind of reminds me of 212 MEN, which is also a great Male fragrance.
This one is for men who have already figured their way through life and they don't have to prove themselves to others, they've already done it. This is more for my dad's age.
It is long lasting(6 hours on me), does not project very much, but doesn't stick to the skin as well, it is easily noticeable after 2 hours of the spray. But won't be as strong at the end.
This is a great CHANEL smell and one that every real man should own.

Generic? Sure! Usual? Absolutely! Safe? Definitely! Worth a purchase? How many ways can I say yes? Spicey, citrus, peppery, floral and a bit woodsy! Sure you have smelled this before it is the blue oxford shirt, the black oxford dress shoe, the crisp light blue tie of fragrances. What do I mean? It meets all your needs. Great for a summer day, warm enough for a fall night, great for work, and a good first impression fragrance. You can do just about anything in this. It is the epitome of versatility. I call it the work horse of the Chanel family. The brother that didn't follow the Harvard and Yale brothers to the Ivy League, but opened a small machine shop or an HVAC company and built his small wealth that way. He didn't become a Wall Streeter, he is the guy next door who owns the pool company.

Well, At first as other guys already said it starts with
very generic and loud notes which remind you of cheap Avon sport frags, After about half an hour on my skin It Evolves to some more pleasant citrusy and creamy notes which easily could be called "allure edition blanche" EXTREME. In this stage it is quite nice actually. The base notes as with middle notes are musky and creamy with right amount of zest which make the base note very classy and modern.I like it.I rate this Frag
7/10.
UPDATE: After using several times I have to say I love it now. The middle and base notes are so modern and sexy.

My recent signature fragrance! First is it has that same dna you'd always recognize with Allure Homme and Allure Homme Sport truly their signature. The top is really fresh and has a dark vibe to it. Towards the drydown i smell somewhat like a laundry soap scent and in a very good way. Such a classy fragrance good job sir Jacques Polge

The only great (and right) thing about "Bleu" is the magnetic bottle cap of the Eau de Toilette and the innovative cap of the body wash (both make you want to use the products more), funny but true!
The blue colour (a sort of a darker blue indigo shade) is a little too dark while the perfume that's in it, is again a rather too sharp mixture of acquatic metallic notes, (the ones the creator seems to love so much but is incapable to tame) that lacks body. This perfume feels incomplete!
It is like a piece of modern music without enough bass.
At times it is more annoying than pleasant, only very slightly saved by the experience of a nose that obviously gave it too much thought, and lost the point.
Being Chanel they'll have to keep it on the market forever, but there have been more than one better fragrances that never got a fraction of the publicity and chance, this one got.
You don't have to believe me. Do a blind test and see for yourself..

Bought this for my father as a Christmas present. My better half likes it, I had a sample and quite liked it but not enough to own it. Have mixed feelings myself, it seems like the sought of smell you'd put on after going to the gym and then heading off to the pub for a pint with the lads. It's a bit synthetic and seems like a classy version of cheap smells (if that makes any sense?)
Quite nice as a change from your normal choice of fragrance but doesn't really strike me as a classic.

It smells rich, classy & very pleasing but it ain't groundbreaking for its price. By the way it's impossible to find someone who REALLY hates it!

Another good point about it is its versatility. It can be worn in both casual/formal occasions by every 21+ man.

About similarities it seems to be an improvement on Egoitse Platinum. Chanel fills the transparent character of Platinum with rich and smokey notes of Bleu, and result is a magical scent that can be worn in both hot and cold weathers.

When i sniff that, i thought, oh shi.. another generic!? But when i put that on my skin, uau!! Let's see if I can get this to makes sense. I see a lot of people comparing bleu to all of the older colognes of different decades. Also complaining that Chanel has hit the shitter (Ok not in that exact term). The reviews on here say that Bleu is "Boring" "Unoriginal" etc etc etc. Well let's take a look at what is the number one selling cologne in the world, Acqua di gio. ADG IS bland and boring but that is now what sells to the masses and from a business standpoint you sell to the masses. The times have changed and the big masculines (Azzaro PH, Polo and Aramis Just to name a few) have taken a back seat to the new generation of colognes that are appealing, safe and light. Bleu is not bad at all. The times have just changed and this is the wave of the future. Without new colognes of this generation, the above list would never be called classics.

Hi.

When one fragrance have a lot of reviews it can not be necessarily a bad fragrance albeit some of reviews are negative. In my mind CHANEL fragrances are often transcends of time and this is the best characteristic this fashion house for me but perhaps with this one CHANEL stop in time.nonetheless BLEU DE CHANEL is a nice fragrance for me. Masculine,Charming, Sophisticated,Aromatic,Well-Balanced and Modern yet Classic.

BDC delivers uncompromising masculinity throughout the evolution of the fragrance. It opens with citrus and ginger accords that transition to a soft floral and woody heart of jasmine, mint, vetiver and a masculine base of cedar.this scents for men who are mature to their tastes and know how to put a virile, sensuous cologne to good use.

This CHANEL EDT is not an overpowering scent, just enough to get the female hormones raging as it makes ladies want to flirt with you.It is an all purpose fragrance for men that goes perfect in the Office during the day and also when going out at the Night. It can also be worn most of the year.Totally nothing masterpiece but it deserves more attention.

Sillage?Ok.

Longevity?About 8 hours on my skin.

I think I'm conflicted where 'Bleu' is concerned. My inner devotee to Antaeus and Egoiste made me want to try this offering as soon as it appeared on sale, the endorsement from a very attractive female colleague only reinforced my desire even more so. Unfortunately, whilst the scent is pleasant enough, it doesn't live up to the wow-factor (for me, not everyone I understand) of stable mates such as Antaeus and Egoiste.

However, just as I love the flacon designs for those two, this new offering has an equally exquisite and timeless design appeal, so much so that I might have to purchase an iconic bottle just so the it can sit next to my wash basin!

For those who are used to "sports" fragrances, this one might strike you as superior. I don't like these kinds of fragrances, in general, and find nothing special about this one. However, once you become an aficionado, you can detect very small differences among fragrances that are similar, which explains why I view this as basically worthless, while others are willing to pay a lot for it. Many of those who like these kinds of fragrances might hate many of my favorites, such as the original Leonard Pour Homme, the original Lagerfeld and Boss, Polo Crest, etc., and might say that they all smell very similar. One thing that is undeniable, however, involves the amount of expensive "naturals" used in a fragrance (relative to cheap synthetic ingredients, at least). Some seem to prefer the cheap synthetics and say the old, very natural, complex, and rich fragrances smell like "hair spray." To each his own !

My review will be a martyr. It will gain and lose balloons, but remember lovers of Bleu, i am with you.
How anyone with half of a brain could even consider this generic is completely beyond me. Snobs will be snobs, and it seems now adays anything with any sort of ad campaign is instantly nailed to the cross of "ordinary".

Do you people even know who created this? His name is Jacques Polge, a master perfumer. He has single handedly brought us every single modern Chanel fragrance, and yet you still spit in his face, over and over again all because of an add campaign.
I admit, this thing sells, and sells BIG, but there is always a reason to the hype. If i mailed every single one of you a unlabeled bottle of this you'd change your mind rather quickly.
I really hope he doesn't read half of the horrible insults that you kids madly type into your keyboards, because i wouldn't want him to be discouraged with this creation ONE LITTLE BIT!
Exactly what i said in my last review was, this is a masterpiece from the house of Chanel, and i feel for anyone who doesn't appreciate it. I stick to that thought 100%.
The scent is linear starting off with HARD accords of lemon zest, realistic grapefruit, ginger and woods.
Smokey savory incense and sun sparkling ceder lead way into stringent powdery jasmine.
Mint becomes more apparent deeper into the dry down pairing perfectly with labdanum and oddly enough creates the "humidity over cold air" olfactory. Pimento's "red" sweet accords add mealy spices upon drydown, paired with buttery vetiver.

I approve (you all should be ashamed of yourselves)

First of all ,i would say this no way a summer fragrance.
Ginger and grapefruit are dominated with touch of incense and vetiver background.
Soapy,little powdery,sweet mix.
A work scent to my nose for fall, winter and spring.
I have to mention that smelling it on other different then testing.
Quality ingredients ,very appealing!
Longevity 6 hours with good projection.
After many wearing ,i would say that the openning is little mature (grapefruit effect),then 20 min it can be worn by anybody.

I am searching for a summer fragrance and here are my thoughts on this one.

Chanel has a MASSIVE advertising campaign for this fragrance and the salespeople push this one hard. When at Nordstrom's I found one I wanted to try and was "forced" to try this Chanel on my other wrist. The lady that sprayed it immediately told me she liked this better on my skin. I was pushed to buy this because it was their best seller and they could not keep it in stock! Well, good for Nordstrom's! I bet their profits are great and the mark up has to be huge.

So I think this fragrance is good, nothing that stands out from the crowd in my opinion and it deserves to be popular...it is a good scent. I might be tempted to have this as a fragrance in my collection but why would I want to smell like all those other people that have this in their collection? Why should my signature summer scent be one where people will say, "gee, you smell like my boyfriend", or "my boss" or "my dad"?

I am afraid this is or will be a ubiquitous scent. I want something unique that is not on everyone's shelf. I will pass on this safe buy.

I need to wash this off because my eyes hurt from the vapors.

It is not astonishing, not suprising at all, but which Chanel perfume is so original, "something completly different"? None. These are fragrances for a self confident and mature (emotionally) people who don't crave for compliements. Anyway only a bunch of people tell me how great I smell when wearing perfume, some of the people don't care about it, some of them are too shy to do it. And Chanel Bleu is a kind of perfume that you won't recive many compliements when wearing it. Just like my favorite Chanel Egoiste Platinum - I'm an egoist when wearing it, I don't care what people say. I think Chanel perfume are for those who like to smell good but don't want to stick out of a crowd. Chanel Bleu is good and I don't regret buying it but I prefer Egoiste Platinum and Allure. Still Chanel and Dior are my favorite manufacturers. Dior Homme and Chanel PE - masterpieces.

March 2011:

I won't spend many words on this as it's simply otrageous. A totally generic light-sportish fragrance with a fancy name on the bottle! That's all you can get form Bleu!

Edit June 2011:

After several wearings I partially changed my opinion on Bleu. While I still believe this fragrance is way too conventional and generic, at least it smells very natural and takes the distance from the average low quality of nowadays masculines. Honestly crafted and targeted to men who are easily pleased. In this context Bleu does what it does, and it does it good.

I stuck with Egoiste or Antaeus.

Now, after more than 24 hours I am writing about this parfume....

Top
-blast of sweet citrus with a hint of ginger
-aldehydes (standard CHANEL creamy scent boost)

Middle
-mint and jasmine are hidden by woods (can't dstinct which of them) and grapefruit
-aldehydes

Base
-cedar (typical for CHANEL), incense, nutmeg and some spices.

Sillage: it projects for the first 4-5 hours.
Longevity: 8-10 hours can be easily detectable by everyone from 1 feat and it leave a trail..ohh. For next 12 hours I enjoy it on my skin.
Occasion: jack of all trades.

It turns into a creamy and sweet melody that touches your senses and make you fall in love with this ...fragrance....timeless and unique..not so..
..it is not original nor like everything in the market. I dont know how to explain...on my skin in pretty unique... OR maybe I like it because of sillage and Time Length ??
Whatever..I like it and it is captivating and warm. People can smell it and they think twice before criticizeing...

The bottle is very nice and elegant. It reminds me of a very deep ocean scent. The serial number is on the back of the bottle, which should match the serial number on the box. The cap is magnetic and snaps on the bottle gently. The original bottle sizes for this fragrance are 50 and 100 ml, which cost around 60 to 90 dollars.
It smells very similar to some other Chanel perfumes specially, Allure Homme Edition Blanche. The opening is citrusy with a beautiful hint of ginger which makes it a little sharp but still very pleasant. Then the mint, patchouli and floral scents come into the play with a background of spicy, woody and incense notes. By the time, the pink peeper, incense and woody scents dominate the other notes, but I can pinpoint the ginger from the start to the end. It is a very versatile fragrance, can be worn by anyone at any age in any season and anytime during the day or at night. It is a compliment getter and has an absolutely inoffensive scent. The projection and silage are very good, especially during the first two hours. The longevity is very good for this fragrance. It lasts for 6 to 9 hours on my skin.

I wrote before that was targeting young men but after several months of wearing I can't say this is for youngsters, at least above 30, very mature masculine and macho.
I m overriding now what I typed below about Bleu.
Nothing to do the with aquatics except the name.
Projection and longevity are superb.
Initially I get mint and citric notes, then labdanum, pepper, incense, woody and floral notes join.
It is really complex and very well crafted scent by quality ingredients.
A little soapy a little powdery a little bit sweet, but very hot as fire.
More suitable for winter, autumn and spring, may be too strong for summer.

Great for late afternoons and nights. Seems to disappear in humid/sunny climates. So definitely not for clubbing and not for cruising in hot weather with your top back or windows down. The scent is for very settled activity in my opinion. Even though people say this scent resembles another cologne, Chanel Bleu stands out of the crowd with class and sophistication. The pepper calms down after drying and a smooth powdery, clean scent settles in. Expensive but worth adding this to your collection.

Sitting here sniffing it on my wrists right now. Third time wearing it and my tester is almost empty now... :-(

Ok, sooo....

Its a very safe scent. Nothing really outta the box here, but very well done. Beginning is nice, but a bit boring IMO. Reminds me ALOT of my Azzaro Chrome Legend.

Dont get me wrong. It's really not bad at all. If youre tired of your coolwater/Acqua De Gio/D'issey Pour Homme/D&G Light Blue this could be good for you. No compliments on it so far, but havent really worn it socially yet, except for half a day at work. I could see it as a "compliment getter" though.

Sillage: Average. Its not "Out there" but nor is it "Skin close".

Longevity: On me, 4-6 hours. But thats my average, since I got dry skin. Same Longevity as I get with my D&G Light Blue and my Acqua De Gio. D'issey Pour Homme is still my longevity king in this genre of fragrance.

When to use: Could make for a nice all-year work scent. It can also be used as a nice all-around scent in the summer time. Def. not a scent for cold weather.

Sprays: For work I would just go with one chest and one on neck. If you feel adventurous go for 2 neck, 1 chest. For general use outside work I would go 2 neck, 1 chest and 1 on wrists and dab them.

Conclusion: for a "inside the box" scent its really good.

When the saleswoman gave me this fragrance to try, I was kind of prejudiced, partly because of the massive ad campaign. And my first sniff kind of confirmed this feeling. It didn't smell bad at all, just kind of generic.

But this likeable yet forgettable opening transformed after about 45 minutes in some kind of perfectly blended fresh scent. I even got a compliment from a friend, while I only sprayed it on my arm. It's the kind of fragrance that gets sophisticated after a while. Definitely not a paper-tester.

So I bought it the same day, and was really happy with it. When searching for reviews on the internet, it seemed that not many people shared my opinion. Well, this hasn't stopped me from wearing it quite often, and in fact, this one has given me the most compliments so far.

I think that a lot of people made the mistake of testing it on paper or that their prejudice took the upper hand. Anyway, it's a real nice, not very special yet very intriguing fragrance. On my skin it lasts about 7 or 8 hours and it has kind of nice projection.

One warning: do not overspray it, people in your surroundings, including yourself, will get the feeling of being suffocated.

Yes this is not a ground breaking fragrance but if your a man looking for an excellent signature scent, this could be a great choice. It's a very well done fresh fragrance that could be worn all year round. The top starts out with a nice citrus accord then it transforms into a fresh and green vetiver scent, accompanied by ginger, with a touch of florals to soften it up. Vetiver is the last man standing as this fragrance fades out. Longevity and projection are great. I get about 8-10 hours out of this one.

"In fashion, you know you have succeeded when there is an element of upset." Coco Chanel

I will start by saying I don't find Bleu de Chanel worthy of all of the negative and indifferent reviews. I tested this a couple of times, and found it superior to some other popular colognes that get rave reviews on here. Although scent is a matter of personal taste, I am reminded of my opening quote while reading over the reviews.

I agree it is NOT boring or generic at all. For me it's very refreshing and layered. There is a rich creamy quality to it. It starts out citrus. A little green and minty, but gives way to fresh, cool woods. I bought the 3.4 ounce/100 ml bottle. I love the magnetic cap. You'll miss this if you are just sampling.

It has proven to be long lasting on my skin even in warm temperatures. It's going to be great for this Spring and Summer. Day and night. I wore it at SXSW and had several people ask me what I was wearing. It was a hit!

Everything about Bleu de Chanel is a winner. The deep and complex scent as well as the bottle. I can see where it may come across as "boring" and or "generic" at first, yet it is anything but. It demands to be worn on the skin to be fully experienced. Hold the bottle up to the light and look at it. Put on a couple of sprays. Let the cap snap back on by itself. Enjoy its richness.

Despite the tepid reception here, it will be a success and very deservedly so. I had high expectations for Chanel and Jacques Polge, and I'm not disappointed or underwhelmed in the least. Chanel didn't sell out, but introduced a great new fragrance worthy of the lineage. I for one, love it.

I didn't find this one boring or generic at all, i find it very woody and exotic, not something I expect from Chanel, but probably their better work in my opinion. Only thing I don't like is the citric notes. I would replace anything citrus with anything else just because im prejudiced like that. The drydown has a green feel to it as well as the citruses.

I had high hopes for this one. A major men's launch from Chanel? And with Jacques Polge as the nose behind it? Sounds good to me! When I sprayed it on in the department store, I was a little let down. No big deal, I figured my nose needed time to pick up on what I was missing, so I got a sample. Sadly it didn't help - all I got from this was a generic, fresh, woody aromatic. And that's still all I get.

No, it's not a bad smell. I can't deny that it's made from quality ingredients, and I'm sure it'll be a big hit with lots of consumers. Maybe I just expected more from Chanel, and I definitely expected a lot more from the nose behind Les Exclusifs.

To be fair, the comparisons to Axe are a bit much. If someone has been wearing Axe and they want to upgrade to this, that's a huge step in the right direction! But still, here's hoping we get something a little more interesting next time. I'll have to pass on this one.

Yes it is generic. If you went down the aisle at Walmart and smelled every deoderant stick for men and every body wash for men and mixed them all together, Bleu by Chanel is what you would get. It is the classic fresh, sporty "man" scent. Only it is done with Chanel quality.
I have a lot of bottles of cologne, but when my wife smelled this one, she said, not only that this was the best, but that this one is what I should always smell like.

I don’t passionately disagree with this cologne like some listeners HOWERVER I do see where generic comes into play as a description. All in all though, this stuff does not smell bad! It just isn’t a distinguished scent. Clean and fresh. It does smell smorgasbord –ish by which I mean that it smells like a conglomerate of many different colognes sprayed at the same time. Like… a cologne section of the mall as opposed to 1 distinct scent.

My final answer though is that it’s not bad.

Allure goes aqua. A lovely combo that keeps shifting. Too bad this is getting a lot of negative reviews from people who only tried it on paper. This needs a few wearings to fully get it. I didn't like it the first time I tried it (on paper) either. A few weeks later a friend gave me a lift and when I entered the car I was pleased by his smell. He was wearing Bleu. Gave it a few wearings and I agree that Chanel released better fragrances, but it surely doesn't deserve the bashing it receives here. A great all season wearing for any generation.

It certainly does smell like the 90's. I wore it in the car, and it reminded me of either my Dad or Grandfather when I was a little kid. I was okay with that, it kind of took me back in time.

I wore it to work, and one of my co-workers said "Something smells like my Grandpa's basement, gross." That kind of got me thinking, if this really is marketed to a younger male audience, I think it has missed the mark. I think it's well constructed, with decent lasting power and projection, but it really does smell slightly dated.

Again, I think it smells pretty good, and it's well made - it's just not interesting enough to stay in my rotation, and got negative feedback from co-workers.

What we have here is an aquatic scent that should have been released during the 90's but missed it's time frame and now we are past the first decade of the 21st century but I guess perfection takes a long time. It could be a homage to the 90's or just another male perfume from Chanel whatever it is, this is a quality scent that you can wear any time and in any situation without being offensive or out of place.

I m a huge fan of Chanel scent and own most of the colognes...and just when I thought it cant get any better, it kinda did...It has a strong masculine feel to it(woodsy, minty, somewhat spicy) It still has very european vibe...kinda similar to Egoiste Platinum, but not as loud and moderately subtle...I feel this cologne fits more colder seasons and evening occasions...maybe because of the vetiver/sandlewood notes...I would highly recommend to anyone...

Minity Meo, Chanel was a woman.

For some odd reason this reminds me of the flight attendants on Virgin Atlantic or British Airways, which isn't really a compliment... it smells of a man in his forties. I am not impressed. It also reminds me of hair gels and sprays from the 80s. If my boyfriend wanted to wear this I would probably try my best to stop him.

I am not saying that this is a bad fragrance... it's just not my type, to be honest. In an attempt to appear masculine whoever made this fragrance had overdone it to the point all it is saying is "I AM A MAN". Thank you, I know. I wish it had a little more subtlety.

Absolutely right! This is Chanel for All! It's almost aquatic, almost citrusy, almost woody, almost smokey, almost sharp, almost smooth, almost cool, and almost warm. It's one scent fits all! The first goof-proof for Chanel house, I think! Kudo for ya! I will get one when I luck out somewhere that isn't full retail price.

I went to the counter to try Bleu on paper - wrong. It smells the same and generic and doesn't develop depth. I sprayed it on myself; I dismissed Bleu as well as many others without letting them develop.

Turns out, after smelling the initial semi-aquatic/citrusy generic top, it started to develop just as all the Allure lines to something very pleasant after the dry down, and lasting very long, just as the other Chanel's by Polge. Appropriate for work and versatile for many seasons. I just didn't realize it at first - try and let it develop on your own skin; it may be a winner you just happen to pass up.

I somehow usually do not like fragrances for men because they often seem too sharp, watery or cheap to me. Bleu de Chanel however is an exception. It's classy, fresh and a little sweet. Not as good as Le Male by Gaultier, but I would definitely notice a man wearing Bleu de Chanel. Very expensive, but I think it would make a good gift for the man you love.

When I first saw this scent at Macy's I had to smell it. It had a picture of Gaspard Ulliel who is my idol on it, which is the main factor which drew me in. After I smelled it, I could not get enough. My girlfriend was with me and she agreed that it was quite an intoxicating scent. 3 months later for Christmas, I got a bottle of it. Not a very big one, but big enough to last me throughout the next few months. This scent lasts very long, more than a day ... which is rare for most scents (Male Scents anyways) that I've encountered. My girlfriend can't get enough of it. She thinks it is the best cologne she has ever smelled and believes it to be a very sexual and attractive scent. It smells wonderful and like something a man should wear. I feel elegant and manly while having it on. This will be my scent from now on, I hope it sticks around for a very long time.

There are so many prentenious and elitist snobs on these fragrance sites who seem to forget that a fragrance can just smell unapologetically great. I have tried so many exclusive scents that are held in such high esteem by the online fragrance community and have generally been underwhelmed by most of them. I do,for example, own Lalique Encre Noire and Bulgari Black but do they smell great to others? No... I see them as technical accomplishments rather than wearable. Would i ever wear them and expect compliments? No.
Bleu de Chanel, However, just smells great and whats wrong with that? You could wear this anytime, any season with confidence. This may be slightly generic but it has a lot more depth to it than the first couple of minutes would have you believe. It has a quality ambience to it and has great longevity.

A citrus-based fragrance from Chanel. The lemon and the grapefruit (mostly the lemon) dominate almost the whole drydown. The first 30-45 minutes is very citrusy, kind of a "brings you a headache" type of feel, very strong and sour. After that, they calm down a little and the ginger/mint duo comes to the front, but still very citrusy. And when the lemon dissapears (not completely) the woodsy notes start the fight for the leadership.

Well, how can i say it.. firstly, i'm not hundred percent agree with the advertising, it's mostly for the young, high school teens (from lets say, age 16). And, of course, for the guys between like 20-30, too. Sporty and - at the same time - classy enough to wear it like everywhere, it's good for every occasion and you can easily use it for every part of the day. School, date, office, a party at the night, good with suit, etc. Don't feel yourself too young to try this one.

The price is a little bit high, but it's familiar from the Chanel-house. The bottle is very classy, a real high-end stuff. Minimal design, very clear bottle with a magnetic cup. If you're a collector but don't like the juice inside too much, this could be interesting for you, so definitely take a look.

Suitable for every season, maybe light enough to be a little less for the cold weather, but i'm not sure. Longevity and projection is fairly good on my dry skin, lasts at least 6-8 hours.

Maybe it seems like an "everybody likes it" type of frag., but it's not a safe choice, so i would not recommend the blind buy, try it a couple of times before you buy. I think it's a sporty fragrance, but it's not light enough to be. It is weird. Like "if you don't stand for something you'll fall for everything". I don't recommend this one becouse of personal reasons (i have a headache every time i wear). I would go for Allure Homme Sport for a sporty scent and definitely for Allure Pour Homme to have a nice fragrance for the colder weather and wears it with elegant coat or a suit. Chanel play it safe, it's obvious, but it's not a positive thing - this is the real example.

The beauty of Bleu De Chanel unfolds as it slowly cooks on your skin. It's aromatic, fresh, sensual, and something else that is hard to detect. It evokes the feeling of being in an office or a fancy hotel much like DKNY Men (2009). The invigorating feeling of the wind passing by you while you're in downtown New York City is something that you might just experience similarly with Bleu De Chanel.
Polge is quite the trickster. When I first applied this in the department store, I instantly passed it off as another generic offering, but after sampling it for a week, the true beauty of it was layered underneath the generic opening. One of the best releases of 2010, indeed!

"Every perfume tells you a story..."-this one tells me that CHANEL really needed to boost the sales this year. They joined to the club with the other big prestige brands, where they realized that luxury business is still in the crisis and it's time to make money...well, honestly whats wrong with this?? I agree with JP that CHANEL needed to open to younger crowd. They made it! With all this marketing (who can afford to make TV advert with Scorsese? Of course CHANEL!! ) This fragrance is a really good example. And those little details can make a big difference..
When I first sniffed I felt like many of us: WTF?? This is CHANEL??! After Platinum Egoiste and all those charismatic fragrances? But still, I bought my 100ml bottle today, because I was testing it for a while on my skin and it behaves lovely!! Guys, I am telling you, you have to try it on your skin to realize the true essence of this one! A perfect choice for everyday scent: to the office, hanging out with friends, even for a date. You will get many compliments and still you can feel that you are "special" as wearing CHANEL. I feel really good with this scent on my skin and everyone needs some fragrances that you can wear anytime. This way you can better appreciate those moments, when you are wearing something special, and historical: like Platinum Egoiste for me from this house. I think that this fragrance fits to the current line of men's fragrances and really modern. It tells me the story of the modern man, who does not want to stand out from the crowd, but still wants to create something special. This is not a signature scent. Not at all. But still it has that lovely atmosphere and that chic only CHANEL can create. Masterpiece? -definitely NOT. A perfect choice for an everyday scent? Definetely YES!

If you simply close your eyes and forget about all the other thousand of fragrances on the market and everything that has been release by chanel prior to bleu de chanel, and try your best not to compare it with anything else you will find that it Bleu has a few noteworthy qualities which I find redeeming.

It's a safe, fresh, aromatic, woody, scent with decent longevity / projection, perfect for EVERY occasion and season. Sadly this is where we stop and to most viewing fragrantica have more than 1 bottle so...

Conclusion: If you have 1+ bottles it'll be a "should try". If you have 0 bottles it'll be a "must try/could buy."

Personally: I tried to not like it because of how generic it is, but I keep finding occasions to wear it and that warrants a purchase of the 50ml bottle at LEAST. Beats having to purchase a masterpiece niche fragrance, but never actually finding the time to wear it.

@Martin, @Minimalist: Companies surely pay people to manipulate these sites. They even refuse to advertise in magazines that write something not-so-friendly about their scents. I experienced myself that negative reviews are deleted, and there are two possible solutions:

* Hold your thumb up whenever you read a nicely written negative review.

* Perhaps the maintainers of Fragrantica should check the qualitiy of the comments themselves.

After all, the companies' behaviour shows their anti-democratic ideology. They need to be controlled - everywhere. Otherwise they will take over.

Don't know why do I bother leaving a comment here. Every time I express my (always respectuous)opinion it gets deleted. Is Chanel paying for having hyperinflated balloons for positive reviews?
It does smell like Nivea for men deodorant. Snobs would even love catpee if it was branded as Chanel but would despise it if they saw it at their local supermarket. I love Égoïste, Pour Monsieur and Antaeus but this is soulless.

After several weex of wearing I started to like it more and more.
It very masculine. Woods r here really quality.
It is not like other typical Chanels but very well crafted.
To associate it with Axe is utterly ridiculous.
Can be worn by anyone anywhere.
Sillage and longevity is good also if u dont have dry skin.
Dont smell it directly from skin by burying ur nose, actually most of the scents dont smell good directly from the skin, so smell the aura it creates around you. The best way to test it; spritz 1 in ur palm and spread it other and then enjoy how it smells.

I know that it's not the most amazing cologne that chanel has ever made but seriously I think girls will love it. So if you're a guy and you don't hate it and you want girls around you to think you smell amazing then this is a good choice.
I took a sample card with me and it was strong enough to scent my whole purse.
I'm going to buy a sample of this for sure. I don't want to buy a whole bottle because it is pretty masculine and I don't think i'll wear it.

At first sight the botttle looks to simple to be true. Something your two year old son could've come up with. Give it a more intelligent look. Look at the spacing between the letters. Look at the bottle from every angle. It's perfection. Chanel was known for the apparent simplicity in her work. Often people are to quick to judge. They want everything new more big and outragous then what they have ever seen before. Take a moment to understand Chanel. After being bombarded with screeming bottle designs or the general overlaod of whatever in todays world her style is more present then ever. We want to surround us with less which has more balance and is timeless.. “The seeming simplicity of a masterpiece is sure proof of its grace.” — Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel

I think the reason why most people hate this when they're browsing for perfumes is because of the initial smell of the top notes. I completely agree that upon first spritz, it does smell a bit soapy and generic.
But I bought it anyway, and I promise - after 2-3 hours, the midnotes start to come out at it's amazing! It's less sweet smelling and more spicy in a way that's not too overpowering or too overly masculine. Which is why I always wear it 2-3 hours before I actually have to...
I really recommend it for the younger crowd, and so far, everyone who has smelled me with it has gone crazy over it.

Let me start by saying the snob in me wants to hate this. This is uninspired from a house known for amazing boundary pushing fragrances. Does that mean that this is a bad fragrance? The answer to that is NO! This is classified as a Woody Aromatic and I guess it is, but with Fresh Aquatic bits thrown in. It is not a very original scent, but that doesn't make it bad. It is a mainstream scent for sure, but it is also quite well done. This is a very modern, masculine, clean and fresh scent. Kind of combines parts on 1 Million (sweet amber fruit), Dior Homme Sport (with its ginger freshness-warm notes), YSL l'Homme (with its aromatic metallic fougère elements), with fresh floral of Jasmine and Lyral(lily of the valley) and ozone elements like AHS. Again I will say just because it isn't original in the vain of (Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste, Pour Monsieur, Allure, and even Allure Homme Sport(not that original)) does not make it bad. In fact I love this fragrance. I really wanted to hate it but I just can't. It is very well done and smells quite wonderful in the dry down. Ladies absolutely love this scent.
Longevity-on me low as 8 hours, as many as 18
Projection- Not a monster but pretty good. About 2-3 feet out usually
Season-I would say this could be worn all seasons, I've worn it in hot weather and cold, But I prefer colder weather for this one.
Occasion-Day or Night. Casual enough for work or school, but sophisticated enough for a suit and tie.
Overall-I would rate this a 8.5/10 mostly because it isn't original otherwise would be a 9.5/10

Many people will hate this cologne, but that doesn't mean its bad. I've gotten more compliments on this one than almost any other in my collection. Try this on your skin, but give it a couple hours before you decide because it gets much better later in development.

At first sniff, this is very uninspiring. A friend and I found it in the store and he spritzed some, and which I first told him it was a definite no buy. It smells fruity at first, and while not as cheap as axe, it only smells like a drug store cologne. An hour or two later it smelled much better; darker, more complex, masculine and fairly sexy. The ginger and mint were muted but still noticeable and gave it a nice spicy snap. Still, it's not a remarkable scent. Good for occasional use, but unlikely to make any lasting impressions.

chanel is not axe,and what about the heaviness and vulgarity of one million?bleu de chanel isnt new or something ground breaking but its classic with depth and chracter, and remixing isnt bad its being smart to extract all the pleasent notes in past launches and putting them in a bottle of chanel. To cut the story short people expected more from chanel and this is valid but inspite of validity bleu isnt bad its just mis-judged and perceived

Maybe the motto of the campaign "Be unexpected" isn't the right one for this one. I smelled this for a few times..at first, I was irrelevant on this fragrance, and second also. When colder weather came...on my wrist it was Bleu..but not the Bleu as i remmeber it..this one is better, more sophisticated. On the cold there are no citruses, well, there are, but the opening is so fast that it transforms immediately into the heart of the fragrance which (you cannot say anything against it) because it is so well balanced and so good mixed up that all the notes come together into the refined smell...nothing is jumping out from the composition, only in small traces there is incense, patchouli...everything is matching up. Everybody will say that you smell good, because the truth is that it smells good. It isn't Anteus, it isn't Mugler, it isn't Lutens..but it's Bleu that smells nice. On the cold weather it has something deep in itself, like the bottle of the fragrance...all year one, for the day and for the evning..I admit that mister Polge did a great job creating this one, not on the uniqueness but on the "classicness"..one that smell good with something typical from Chanel and it lasts long and intensively like eau de parfum...as it changes on the weather, maybe after all, depending on the way you carrie it, "Be unexpected" is still on...!!

I've seen reviews where people compared it to an AXE scent. I have to totally disagree and I invite AXE to produce a scent that is just as refined as Bleu. While it smells like it has struck mainstream, it is only because it is an aromatic scent, which runs behind aquatics when it comes to popularity with the average bloke. Though it doesn't smell complex there's a lot going on behind the scent, a blending that tantalizes and teases without all the notes becoming too apparent. It smells ok on skin, but in the air it is magical, especially in cooler air. In warmer weather, I smell a lot of its spicier aspects, but in the cooler months, it smells fresh, floral and woody. As much as I would want M. Polge to create another stellar oriental, his forte in my opinion, it is a good scent, and hope that he is not backed into a corner too much as he creates more scents throughout his lifetime with Chanel.

I got it by discount, otherwise I didn't have idea to buy.
By the first days of wearing it didnt smelt good on me and I smelt a strange note like burning hair and coal, I was smoking when I wore 4 the first time maybe it was the reason of such burning note feeling.
But after some days it started to smell better, strange is that it seems developed on me maybe.
Before owning a bottle I already tested at least 10 times on my skin and didn't impress me much, it wasn't bad nor good and I didn't recognize that note.

There r few similarities with Egoiste Platinum(metallic) and Allure Home(woody).

I think Chanel tried 2cr8 something with ozonic and aquatic notes which would compete with Dior Home Sport, ADG, Bvlgari Aqua and etc. But IMO this is far better then them however I m not into aquatic and sporty scents. Actually this is woody aromatic.

Reminds me Bvlgari Blv also(soapiness), maybe ginger and cedar.

Lasts 3-4 hours with decent sillage but then becomes almost absent.

This will surely become hit by young crowd.

My gf liked it much but I didn't, It is too weak and simple to be a Chanel, when I wear it I always think something missing in it.

As a result I didn't like it much as Chanel. Btw it is very masculine, easy to wear and so casual. If you r looking something quality fresh, clean, woody and masculine u may try.

I ll stick with Egoiste, Allure, Pour Monsieur and PM Concentree as real Chanel.

Great fragrance my fiance' bought this for me today and I'm pleased. I admit that it's not that original but whats wrong with that. Chanel understands that the economy is bad and money is a issue for a lot of families. So they did the smart thing and did what the market dictated. I my opinion that is just smart business. In New Orleans where I live as well as the whole state of Louisiana this is the top selling men's fragrance and for good reason this is good quality stuff. Chanel is such a great house that the made an above average fragrance when they were attempting to make an average one speaks volumes about this house. To sum it up Bleu De Chanel is a winner!!!!!!!!

A rather uninspiring frag from the house of Chanel. Its really sad that this is what we have come to hope for from a house with such prestige, This is a fresh clean scent no doubt, however there is nothing in it that makes it STAND OUT above all the other fresh scents out here. If I want something fresh, honestly I will go back to an old favorite of mine Liz Claiborne Sport which cost less $$$ than this, yet does its job very well & maybe better than what Bleu is trying to do. I am by no means impressed with this.

Just sampled this today at Macys, honestly, there is nothing bad or great about it. First spray is fresh, similar to what other fresh fragrances give, then it dries down to a smoky peppery incense accord. Longevity, well I sprayed it and after 3hrs it's still there but faint. Overall there is nothing bad about this fragrance but nothing to be excited about either in my opinion.

I own Egoiste Platinum and Cologne Sport and I think those are much better than Bleu. If you already own any other Chanel fragrance, don't expect to like this one much. However, if you don't own anything from this house, you should try it before you buy.

I would categorize this for the 18+ up to 28 audience. Older crowd will most likely despise this.

If you are a collector, then obviously it's a must buy for you.

Overall 6/10

I must say that at first it was like any other citrusy/sporty scent that's come out recently...but then in time it warmed up and became something nice and vanilla-woody-and slightly spicy. It's still has that Chanel-ness to it, like the Allures, but it's modern and fresher.
I dont' know what all the fuss is about, with you guys debating the deeper meaning behind this new fragrance? " Look, it's not a life philosophy here, it's just a fragrance.. it either works for you or it doesn't!" Yes, it's a safe commercial scent, with a broad appeal.. and that's just business...especially in the current economy. But, it's still a good all round fragrance with depth and dimension. And, dare I say, it will probably go on to become a classic for the 21st century.

Dear Folks, you are right, Bleu is mainstream. But it is very good as well. It is rich and interresting, much more than any other new releases I have recently tried.
It is "primus inter pares", the first among peers. Admittedly, the question is whether this justifies a Chanel-price.
Also because it keeps it's quality, but it doesn't last very long.

I feel like Chanel played it very safe with Bleu. To me it smells reminiscent of Valentino V, which customers still ask for at the counter. Nutmeg specifically. The ads and packaging are really attractive. It smells very different on the skin from person to person, more so than Allure or any of Allure's seasonal variations. It seems to appeal to mass generations of men. It will prob be the #1 Men's launch for Fall 2010. I know the Holiday sale projections are huge.

I'm a big fan of Chanel perfumes. As I tried Bleu today, I immediately said myself: instead of paying for such a vulgar thing, I would simply pay for one so inexpensive Gillette after shave spray; Why would one Throw away money for such a cheap stuff, on earth?!!

I used to say "You can't go wrong with Chanel" but now I append this: "but if it's not Bleu!!"

Can't imagine Mr. Polge has designed this...

It's similar to Higher Energy from Dior, while Dior appears pretty much better, to my opinion.

Conclusion: Just a very casual nonsense, nothing special at all, neither energetic, nor sensual. Just save your money for something else, specially if you are 30+.

Bland and generic. It seems to be an indiscriminate mixture of a whole shelf of past and present perfumes. It does not evolve, it is just a "salad" of different fragrances. The first Chanel I could not wait to wash off. And it hardly washes off. This is the only quality of this expensive flop.

Let's face it, people, I don't think anyone would buy it if it wasn't a Chanel.

I am with those who hold Bleu to be one big disappointment. It's not that it's not pleasant, cause it is - maybe this is its biggest issue: it is too pleasant, so much so that it becomes a boring crowd pleaser. Definitely not Chanel worthy, if I hadn't seen the bottle I would have thought that this is a new Boss. Apart from that there are far better modern woodys out there, even Pi Neo tops this one. Pity that Chanel decided to go with the flow. This for sure won't stand up to the fame of this house.

I tried again. Starts very citric and sour. Then woody notes join. It is quite linear. I also for a while got nutmeg sweetness and labdanum.
Sillage is not super but longevity is good. Quality is ok since it is from Channel, but it is nothing new, already known theme. I would expect something unique and with personality from Chanel such as Monsieurs, Allures, Egoistes and Anteaus.
But I think still it is better than Allure Home Edition Blanche.

Buenos dias:

During the last decade we experienced a very strong trend of compromising with younger customers, who sometimes can't afford, and sometimes are not interested in the sophisticated ambient and occasions that classic Chanel fragrances are created for.

Chanel No 5 had already several attempts to find its way to the hearts of ladies who want to smell not just chic, but also contemporary, and this is a great challenge for a fragrance made almost 100 years ago. The legend still works.

Almost all Chanel fragrances have their "younger" flankers; some of them are very successful, like Coco Mademoiselle, a modern stylish very Chanel fragrance. But we have not seen anything new for women since Chance (2003) and nothing worthwhile new for men - not in this millennium. At last we got Bleu de Chanel, with a very provocative
advertising film. So what is it?

"I am not going to be the person I am expected to be anymore". So, we have the new face, the new place (France? New York!), the new style (Luxury? Street!) and the new fragrance that is supposed to be a breakthrough, according to the wonderful commercial directed by Martin Scorsese.

Bleu de Chanel is a very safe fragrance. Instead of exploring new horizons, it seems as if Chanel decided to stay within a well-researched market: The theme was approved by masses long before the launch. The first impression of almost all who like or dislike the scent is that it smells "traditional". You can interpret it like "a good masculine perfume", or "just another one", whatever you like, but the truth is that it's not very new.

It starts with fresh breezy citruses and continues with spicy aromatic middle notes (nutmeg, mint, woody). No good or bad surprises, a linear but pleasant composition with good silage and average longevity. Chanel is in difficult situation: we want it old and new at the same time, i.e. something new inside the tradition. We expect a tradition from the house whose founder Coco Chanel made a revolution in fashion and fragrance. I can only greet the motto of the film, and expect a little bit more courage from Chanel.

Don't know where to start with this one! Picked up a bottle split this week and first impression was Edition Blanche minus the great lemon note, add a strange blueberry like bubblegum fruity note. This could have easily been another allure flanker. Maybe Chanel Allure Edition Bleu?! Casual scent, jeans and t-shirt. Don't know if I like it yet but for some reason, can't stop smelling my wrist. Something addictive about this and strange.
Update(09/14/10): After about an hour, smells very similar to D&G Light Blue Pour Homme on my skin with great longevity. I'm pushing 11 hours as I type this! Pleasant scent, will not offend anyone!

This fragrance is interesting. First notes are very fresh mint, grape, citruses... and then the fragrance sits on your skin and changes your DNA it becomes part of you... after almost one hour of surfing in the Pacific waves today and shower I still feel it on the places where I sprayed it. OK, everything is already said, this is not a new thing but advertisement is awesome and I am pretty sure this fragrance will make it's mark.

Yep, the initial impression was "Why chanel, oh why?" Yet...strange things happened in my brain as the days passed and I kept sniffing the perfumed card placed by my mirror...

Mirror mirror on the wall, this vetiver-incense-grapefruit thing really kicks in after a while...
Great sillage.

How common becomes addictively strange?
Strange indeed...

The bottle is gorgeous, no need to mention that I guess.

I was expecting something great! Something new! Something out of the world from Chanel. But after the test, I left with a totally disappointment, don't get it wrong, it was not a bad scent, but just too ordinary, too safe IMHO, as I believe that Chanel can launch something bigger & greater!

First note is fresh citrus with little sourness, The second and the last note is very linear, doesn't evolve much, it's a warm aromatic scent with little hints of spiciness, nothing excited about the scent, appear to be a very safe choice if you are new to fragrance. Very versatile, longevity is 3 hours on me, a little weaker compare to big brother Allure Homme and Allure Homme Sport (great longevity- 6hours min).

Overall, if you are newbies and want a safe, versatile, manly scent that allow you to wear day or nite - go for it! I will give 6.5/10 for this.

Well, it is a good pleasunt perfume but is not something that smells like no other. It reminds me Allure Sport and a touch of Egoiste Platinum. It is a good one but I expected something more unique by J. Polge and not a remix of several other perfumes. The thing is that it is a good perfume and is wellcome by everybody. Usually the unique perfumes are love or hate perfumes. This one I beleive that will sell and this is what Chanel wants.

It is an EDT with a fresh, young, sophisticated and slightly seductive. The notes have a touch input rather dry, a little green citrus, middle notes go into a blend of floral scents with wood, much like the middle notes of Platinum Egoïste but leaning a little more green or aquatic (not distinguishing where they are going well.) Base notes of fine wood, tending to slightly green notes.

An excellent choice for nights out, gives distinction and a seductive touch, suitable for both the night club to formal dinners, very versatile in that regard. Its use in the day I just deserves formal occasions. The age range I think is universal, even in teens may work well. It's not as loaded as Chanel other (which is a double-edged sword), gives casual and class distinction but more slightly, which may lose in atmosphere. Duration in skin than 8 hours. Recommended, although I think other Egoïste Chanel Allure or Platinum are a little better.

I received this as a gift and was very excited to see the new Chanel fragrance for men.

It smells nice, but it feels generic and unoriginal to me. From the "Bleu" in its name, I had a feeling that this was going to be Chanel's attempt at a "classy" aquatic/blue fragrance for men. I was right. I agree that most people will like it, but it isn't anything groundbreaking or even remotely new. Just another safe scent that is sure not to offend anybody, which is fine for some but I expected something different. I am not hating on aquatics, but I feel like I am over them and their time is done. I am debating on returning it for Burberry London.

Reminds me BLV Notte by Bvlgari mixed with Polo Blue.

IMO if you're not in the perfume game, then this fragrance will probably appeal to you. There is no doubt that it smells appealing. But scents like Cool Water and Acqua di Gio are also appealing scents.

What I mean is that its not enough to just wear "appealing" scents to me. I feel your fragrance should set you apart from everyone else and be yours. Bleu de Chanel is just like any and every liberated aquatic and "Blue/Bleu" fragrance you will find. It does have a darker feel to it, but that is it.

BORING. MAINSTREAM. I will not buy it though I have no doubt it will become popular because of the 2 words in capital above

"If you can't beat'em, join'em." I feel like Chanel has given in this time around and created another clean-fresh fragrance. I mean, what happened? This is something I expected from Azzaro or Davidoff. You know how Mariah Carey sings teenage songs, wears cutesy shirts and booty shorts and she's 40 years old? That's how I feel about Bleu. Chanel is too much of a legend to have to stoop low to appeal. I'll try it again, maybe I'll change my mind. Next stop... awaiting "The One Gentleman."

It is indeed true that Chanel has not taken many risks in this latest creation, but with that being said, the way in which Bleu de Chanel has embraced the traditional qualities found in some of the best-selling colognes over the last few decades, is very appealing.

This fragrance reminds me a little of Davidoff's Cool Water, a less fresh and much darker version of it. The scent is strong, certainly something that will cause a few heads to turn. Despite its lack of innovation, Bleu de Chanel didn't have me disappointed for long.

I would definitely enjoy smelling this on a man. It comes across as being rather clean, soapy almost. The freshness is complimented by an interesting earthy herbaceousness.

The ginger gives this fragrance character, something that people will either love or hate. In reference to the ginger note, Bleu de Chanel also has some similarities to the lovely BLV pour Homme.

Bleu de Chanel is in one word, classic. The way in which the citrus top notes counteract with the woodsiness in the drydown is commendable. With marvellous lasting strength and moderate to strong sillage, Bleu de Chanel, in my opinion, is well worth the purchase.

I tested Bleu this weekend trying to find a new scent for my fiancee. His birthday is coming up. This is delicious. I love when a man walks by that knows how to smell good, and blue would be one that turned my head! Masculine in a very slightly subtle way. Thank goodness it s not an old "brut" style scent. I cant stand those types (that almost every guy seems to wear). Blue is a scent that a man can wear that would make is mate feel comfortable and safe...perfect :)

Thank you, Chanel. It's about time that the fellas received a gift from you. This is great. I'm very confused as to how this creation could have EVER been compared to the likes of Axe and dismissed as a sell-out fragrance. This is a valiant effort for the newer generations to enjoy. Older gentleman in the know will have this in their collections. A lot of men seem to despise this, probably because it's not a hairy beast parading around in a leisure suit asking women what their signs are. But women LOVE this - and I love women. It's a bonus that I enjoy this fragrance enough to wear it for myself.

I was given this scent as a birthday gift but I brought it back as I have tried it before and did not like it. I was originally very much looking forward to its release but was very disappointed when trying it on my skin.
Of course it is not a "bad" scent but it is very homogeneous, commercial, unexciting scent.
Chanel seems to be driven by "the bottom line" at present, which is understandable in these difficult times.
Its about maximising revenues and I am sure this fragrance will open Chanel to many new customers and that I am sure was their strategy.
However, this one could have been Bulgari, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, or any other commercial brand.
Disappointingly bland and corporate fragrance.

I was reading reviews and being surprised.
Finally I tested last week. And I was shocked that it was from Chanel.
Top and mid r citrusy, sour, gingery and with a subtle jasmine note. Reminded me many others out there. It was stucked on my skin and didnt evolve, so I had to wash to get the base notes which r a little woody, slightly peppery. I also noticed the labdanum. Of course it is not comparable with Axe but it lacks the character of previous Chanel's we know.

Come on, "de gustibus non est disputandum". Some will love it, some will simply yawn. I'm on the yawning side, I admit; but on the other hand I realise [realise, not support or like] that mainstream perfumery houses have theirs own, "money-making" rules. Not my piece of cake, since I need a perfume thrill - not another "nice and easy" invention, but still it appeals and will appeal to a lot of people.

Back to Bleu. My opinion: it's classic, sedate, perfectly blended and - plain. Sorry, Chanel. It could have been great, but now I feel it's inclined plane.

At first it smells almost all to simple--very citrusy with wood undertones, but very pleasant. Here I thought I would experience a bit of boredom with the fragrance, but I was intrigued by the little nuances of past signatures of men's Chanel scents created in the past, namely Allure Homme, and Allure Edition Blanche, and some have said they also smell nuances from Platinum Egoiste. Slightly powdery nuances emerge and hints of warm labdanum rise from the scent as it develops, and as the drydown progresses, there is a very sharp wood note, much like the sharpness of patchouli. Overall, I felt this scent was kindred to Gucci by Gucci Sport, but much more sensual and rather more complex. Many would and have panned this new scent, but I think it keeps up with the progression of Chanel's modernity and its vision of the Chanel Man, though I wish he was much more the man in mind when the original Egoiste (Bois Noir) was created, or even Antaeus. My belief is that a monumental and iconic scent takes years, even a lifetime to create. Those that come out once every 6 months is just a passing fancy and shouldn't be taken too seriously. We'll see what happens to Bleu.

Coco Chanel would be rolling in her grave if she heard what you people are saying about this scent! This house has always made scents that were finely crafted of quality ingredients(Bleu is no different)and as someone mentioned before they are in business to MAKE MONEY, so they make what current market trends dictate: understated but refined slightly woody-spicy seems to be the popular theme du jour...

When I tried this last night at my fave frag counter, I was intrigued...more so by the controversy here than by the actual ad campaign or PR...by the release of Chanel's 1st new men's scent in 11 years. I was expecting some weak, transparent aquatic thing and my nostrils were pleasantly surprised by this juice! Bleu is not your typical BLUE scent (Thank the Gods!) it is more of a midnight blue/black in that it has resins, wood, spices along with greens, a hint of citrus and just enough floralcy to accent the overall composition without being too indolic...

The initial scent is quite citric with delicate pink pepper and nutmeg with a touch of green mint...some may find this generic, I find it refreshing. The heart of this is dry and woody and has a delightful ginger/jasmine accord to keep the wood and vetiver from being too much and adds just enough warm floral energy to the composition. The drydown is incensy and resinous (labdanum and frankincense)with earthy patchouli and sandalwood and should seem oriental but now 12 hours later I smell only a sweet smoky hint of woods...

This is Chanel through and through; while it's no Antaeus or even Allure, it is a well-made masculine scent that is predominately woody but has just enough other notes to keep it lively and fresh without commiting too much to any one olfactive classification (hence the mish-mash and "generic" reviews).Comparing this to Axe/Lynx is the same as saying Wrangler jeans are the same as True Religion, both are denim pants true but that's where the similarity ends...

Sillage: above average
Longevity: very good
Overall: 4.25/5

I have put off buying a FB of any Chanel fragrance yet because despite the fact that all of them were wonderful, none of them were "just right"for me. Bleu is perfect for the office or school but could be worn for a night out or a date. It is a well-balanced, modern scent that smells elegant and refined yet fresh and I just adore it. This one will not offend or announce your prescence before you arrive but it will make an impression because it is clean, sexy and intriguing. This is the Chanel pour moi...Exquisite and subtle, rich but not ostentatious, manly but not "macho". I look forward to getting this...

Having been one of the FEW reviewers here to have actually bought and tried the fragrance, I think you're all unecessarily harsh. It's a lovely, masculine juice. What successful upscale mass market fragrance offered today is anything more than that? All of those wonderful, strange Lutens creations do no volume sales. Chanel is in the business to make money. They already have a sterling image, with nothing to prove to anyone. A few hundred bloggers are certainly not going to hurt the sales of this new fragrance. I have it on today, love how I smell and have only gotten compliments. So there.

What a complete letdown!
I love and use old Chanel scents but this one is nothing to compare. The longest middle note painfully resembles me of CK's Euphoria. It's so average, so universal, so everybody's-choice that I would never pay the price. The longevity is nothing to write home about either. "Too blue to be black, too black to be blue" - the producer claims. C'mon, for me it's a boringly pinkish scent at best!

No, Chanel, no! I was waiting for everything, but not for this. Bleu de Chanel presents synthetic type of freshness, in this way it is comparable to Diesel Only the Brave, for example. But if the Diesel has its individuality, Chanel - doesn't have. I was trying to remember, what fragrance Bleu de Chanel reminds me... Finally, I've understood that the beginning of Bleu is the full copy of Axe deodorant spray in a green bottle, that I used some time ago. One in one! Then the Chanel becomes woodier and more elegant, maybe, but... Nevertheless it is the scent of Lacoste quality, it is NOT Chanel... I can't believe. Such a shame!..

Looking at the notes alone & with the understanding that I admire many Chanel male scents I should be in rhapsody about this fragrance when it graces my skin. But I'm not.

It's not to say that this isn't a nice perfume, I just expected more from Chanel.

It is as if they thought: "We've done some really swanky sporty frags with zest, zeal & punch (Edition Blanche, Sport etc), & we pretty much nailed the warm, rich & opulent side (Allure) & the fierce classic (Antaeus) & as for spicy woods, we got that one to a "T" (Egoiste)...they were all pretty popular...so how's about we kinda mix them all together & make sure that it is neither too classic, nor too modern"...& so was born Bleu - which, to my nose, isn't very "blue" either & more a shade of steely-grey.

For me it is a well-blended, safe, woodsy, warm yet fresh, hedge-your-bets scent. To liken it to a Lynx deoderant is a little harsh...but it is easy to see how the comparison was made.

I have a few of these "nice" scents in my wardrobe & they never seem to get the wear. They just don't have a voice. Bleu is your average suit hurrying down the city streets for work - you just don't see the face, the person, the personality. I'd prefer the scent-equivalent of this guy on his day off, or after he removes his tie & starts to become an individual again.

So, Bleu: you will feel manly, you will feel comfortable, you will feel appropriate, you will not repel, you may well disappoint, but you certainly will not wow or woo.

I bought this cologne over the weekend from Macy's and it is wonderful. My wife loves it. It's a very unique mix but if they keep it around, I've found my cologne for the next 10+ years.

I bought a bottle of Bleu today 8/7/10 at Macy's. My girlfriend immediately referred to it as "liquid panty melter'. Enough said.

I tried this today. Smelled really good on paper. On my skin, smelled soapy and like any other cologne. Beautiful bottle, though. I'll see if I can force myself to like it. The bottle is too beautiful not to have.

Well, I have received now a 50ml spray bottle. I was surprised of the fragrance itself, but far away to say it is an AXE deodorant tipe of smell. Just as you can see from the package ( yes, it has an les exclusifes magnetic cap ) it is a strong male parfume, with a lot of character and very traditional. I'm not so good in explaning the parfiume sensations in words, but it is male, virile, forced with not even one flower, sweet note or femminine lookalike note. First sprayed it is vibrant and you smell some citrus but very soon, and for a very looong time after that the core is what remains. Sandalwood, benzene and some small vetyver and cedarwood I'd say. Strong, persistant and after few hours I liked it moore. It is clear that Chanel made it with a lot of effort, quality, and sense, but I would place it to an older, more serious kind of man (well dressed and much less sprtive than me with my 37 years).

It is worth of trying, and give him the second chance, it has his own character.
