Well designed bottle

I got a rather large decant/rollerball of this as a gift from my good friend Gypsy Perfumista! I don't know much about this house, i'll have to do some more research. This is, however rather impressive, although i can't help but think it smells exactly like something else i own! (i'll have to edit this when i find out what, i have a few in mind).
Mr. Gypsy brought this in hopes that it wouldn't bother my boyfriends allergies (synthetic fragrances hate him with a passion), and i'll be damned, he was fine with this one. I don't think i'll be getting him to wear it any time soon, but what the hell. At least Perfumista is assisting in my search!
This scent preforms well, and starts off sticky sweet with a notable woody-ness right from the get go. A very soft hint of lavender leads you quickly into the more 80's style base notes dry-down, very nice!

The top:

On first application this creation lets out a very strong rush of honeydew melons, but more so the very sweet watery meat towards the center, raw and glucose-y, this note is undoubtedly the "leader" note in which all other notes in the composition pledge allegiance to. Also in the top notes, you'll find the very smooth lavender note.
It's not like just SMELLING lavender, i would describe it as a lingering lavender smell, as if someone has some sitting in the room. Not too much, which is good,but, not so quiet that one needs to sniff and sniff and sniff to find it. Buried grapefruit rind resides in limbo between the top and the middle.

The middle:

This is where the scent contains most of it's spicy-savory properties. The notes contained in the heart of this fragrance are what really keep it from smelling "cheap" or "generic". I get a very resonating savory semi-sweetness from the fir resin. Although, oddly enough it isn't reminiscent of Christmas smells one bit. There is also a decent dose of nutty-dull spices coming from our friend caraway, cumins powdery brother.

The base:

I wouldn't say that the amber note listed in this is correct. To me, it is ambergris, further suggesting of the fragrances aquatic-cicity. Ambergris to me, is benzoin crystals beach living bathing only in the sea, cousin.
Sandalwood is here, again, furthering the notion that this is an aquatic, with it's wood/salt/rotting sea vegetation accords(whisper of green in this one. Oakmoss is the main note that binds this to earth, not allowing it to become flighty. Ritalin-esque in very sweet scents. Very slightly dead/green, and moist/earthy.

EDIT: Does anyone else find that this smells VERY similar to Bvlgari Aqva?

It is fresh scent and it's kinda light, but it turns bitter on me after the first 5-10 minutes. It must be the combination of fir and other woodsy note. After about an hour, the scent gets better with sweeter amber (later turns vanilla'ish) scent and deeper woodsy note and a bit fruity still. Not so bad after all, but it's still not my favorite of this group.

Modern, dynamic, full of energy, sheer and benign, but more distinct than most of the fragrances from this scent group.

Lacks baroque adornments usually associated with Christian Lacroix.

For modern, active men.
Like its female version, it's a good idea for a present.
