Costume National Homme Fragrance Reviews

Very classy stuff! So far, I will say I definitely like it - applied about 10 minutes ago. It is definitely a Woody Aromatic! The first 30 seconds after I sprayed this, I thought I was standing in a wood shop (where I have worked previously in my life) next to some fresh cut black walnut hardwood. Strikingly authentic - not synthetic. No cinnamon for me, yet...I got a dash of grapefruit (or a lifted clean note that could be light citrus) in the beginning, but it faded in less than 5 minutes. Cardamom is there along with the sandalwood about 15-20 minutes in, but it lurks beneath the aromatic wood - almost a sawdust quality.

Not one dimensional at all...the clove is there now (about 30 minutes in along with a touch more sandalwood). Very nice and smooth. Projection after just one good shot on my inner forearm is very good...definitely EDP strength! Know that you are buying high-quality and potent juice here, but NOT a sweet gourmand. We are in the realm of something different and I really like it.

I will come back and add more to this review, but right now, I can say - very good composition and very good quality. Solid 8/10...this will be one I try numerous times. I don't see it as "formal", but it could be (no one else will smell like you) - could be used casually or in an intimate setting, day or night. Year-round smell, but milder application in warm weather. A nice cool weather fragrance - this would be interesting to smell on a rainy day (will the sawdust get a wet wood smell?) I'm gonna have fun with this one. This could be great, though, having lunch (or dinner) on a patio in the spring/summer. Cheers!

Update:
I wore this again today - Scent Of The Day, nothing else layered with it, yet. About to head out and will try something with this - mind is thinking while taking in the olfactory notes. Very dry and dusty. I put a good amount on - mostly skin (where I put most EDP's and strong EDT's) with a couple of shots on my shirt. I got less walnut, although it is there - there IS a wood shop in this bottle! Today, I got a dash of dried cedar (almost like opening a cedar-lined box - so comforting and smooth). Cinnamon is there - but we are talking fresh ground cinnamon sticks...adding another dusty dimension. The weather was cold. I wore a leather jacket for a good part of the day. This did not evolve much today. It did touch on the nice base of sandalwood and some clove/cardamom, but only hints and wisps. I think this needs a nice essential oil or single-note scent to blend in and add depth, richness and some moistness to the dust. Light bulb just came on - I have a wonderful bottle (from Christmas) I bought for my wife (and myself) of L'Occitane's Labdanum EDP. Truly outstanding, but after wearing that, I thought "this could use some interesting top notes that are dry and woodsy to make a great concoction - as this is a great, warm amber/vanilla base". Okay...it's on! I will update later. This is fun stuff. I will keep the same score of 8/10 as the longevity and consistency of this scent is impressive and smelling like fresh cut wood with cinnamon is both unique and masculine. Time to add a dash of something warm, sensual and pure...cheers!

Update (after adding L'Occitane's Labdanum EDP): Wow!! Incredible! I feel like I have created a truly heavenly, layered and original scent. I refreshed with just a couple CoSTUME NATIONAL Homme sprays as its still going strong and dusty at 8pm at night! 5-6 sprays of L'Occitane's Labdanum EDP...it's like spraying the essence of amber onto a fresh-cut cedar plank and misting the walnut sawdust. Incredible! The sandalwood now comes alive as does warmth of the cinnamon and clove. 8/10 before for both fragrances...but, I felt both were a bit one-dimensional and missing that extra something. A great blended concoction. If anyone else tries this -please share! I, very humbly, give this blended layering a serious 9/10 and will never wear either scent by themselves alone again. Marriage is when two become one in unity...I just played match-maker and fell in love with the beauty of their relationship together. Stunning.

this is not a simple fragrance. I have to admit it was my blind buy. I bought it just after reading a great review about this perfume. But I don´t regret. clovers and cardamon are really strong but after hour it begins smell really beautiful... love the base notes of perfume after five or six hours... longevity is great and special bonus is this is very unique fragrance in my countryx. you can buy it only online and don´t know man or woman who used or uses this.

This one appears so rich in detail already at frist sniff, that it will take some time to check all what is hidden in this beautiful fragrance. Very manly, very elegantly, yet modern at the same time. This subtle mix of warm and spicey ingredients really suits our age, at least for those who think that beauty and style remain things that we should aspire.

i can totally see this is a dominique ropion fragrance as it is very similar to french lover, the fragrance which he later created for frederic malle's house, of course it is also a lot cheaper than french lover.

Sweet, spicy; great last, good sillage (not too big of a wake). Drydown reminds me of frankincense & myrrh w/ a touch of cedar. Only bad thing is my wife says it reminders her of gerbal cage... (must be the cedar) bummer! Maybe if I tried a little less next time?

This is AWESOME! Received in the mail today unsniffed and bought solely on one of the reviews here. It's been on about half an hour and the initial cinnamon blast is gone. It's going marvellously 'resiny' on my skin ... (no doubt the labdanum) and the sandalwood is making itself known. Well!!! I'm so glad I did :o) ... here's hoping that it dries down to a nice, full version of Black Walnut as 4xxx4 commented. Another star from Mons. Ropion! Worshipping at the altar of Carnal Flower (as one does) I'm simply over the moon with CNH.

Update:

CNH is fast becoming one of my favorite fragrances. I wore it pretty much every night on a two week trip to the Seychelles recently ... it thrives in the heat and humidity! Here and there a touch of Black Walnut, but CNH lives in it's own world of spicy incensy wonder! This one is so different from the run of the mill frags out there ... a must have IMHO.

Today a woman literally followed me around a store until she finally asked me what fragrance I was wearing. She wrote it down, and said that even though it was a "mens" fragrance she's definately going out to buy it... that it's the nicest scent she's ever experienced! That put a smile on my face. I am loving this at the moment. I think it's a very grown up scent; with a hint of mystery. It also has the best sillage of any fragrance I've ever used. It's with me all day.

I hate the top with a fiery passion! It gets better and then there's a long really nice phase but I don't like the very end either.

A truck load of cardamom, some cinnamon and syrupy sweet citruses (mainly grapefruit). It's cloying and pretty strong at first but I guess it might be a little less horrible in colder weather.
Over time the citruses slowly vanish and I get the forest impression mentioned in the scent's description. It's diffused however by the cardamom that's still going strong, so I'm having trouble picking out any single notes.
The fragrance dries down to a smooth and well balanced combination of sandalwood and cardamom - that's the part I like a lot(about hour 3-12).
Finally it turns again and I smell sweet patchouli. No thanks!

I'd gladly join you for a lunch date but breakfast or dinner are out of the question. If you caught me the right time of day I'd compliment your perfume but otherwise I'd run.

Can a woman pull it off? Not for the first 1-2 hours, apart from that - absolutely! But I can't see how smelling icky and masculine at first would be any worse than smelling just icky.
And don't worry guys, in turn I'll share my Costume National Scent from the women's section with you. That one can work well for a man and is much nicer anyway.

As I sprayed CNpH on My skin I immediately thought I took the wrong sample. I had to double check what was written on the small vial and surf the internet to be 100% sure that what I was smelling was really composed by D.Ropion for Comstume National. No doubt!

A conventional and generic spicy (mainly cardamom) woody musk fragrance of absolutely no interest. Something that you could expect from a bigger designer house and surely not from a niche fashion outfit. It sells for more than $100. If all of this sounds appealing to you, go ahead.

I was after this scent for a long time but it's pricey, so I waited for my girl to get me one bottle. I have to say, really long lasting fragrance, I spray myself 3 times at least and since morning until the evening it's like I'd have sprayed it one minute ago... The fuss with strawberry's? I look beyond that.

Costume National Homme is rather divine. Something that I, a woman, could happily douse myself in.

When I first sprayed Costume National Homme I found it quite strong and nauseating. There was a little too much of everything all at once. It smelt like a thick, resinous forest with runny, liquified honey.

After this scent settles however the scent is intoxicating, in a good way. It's like a gourmand for men. Rich, syrupy, spicy and earthy. Full of sensuality and intrigue.

Costume National Homme seems to have a prominent tobacco note, which is further complimented by patchouli, herbs, cinnamon and vanilla. It's a masculine scent with a sweet and syrupy finish. In my opinion, Costume National Homme works well on both men and women alike.

I recommend this fragrance not only for its beautiful complexity and sexiness, but also for its undeniable lasting strength and strong sillage.

From the first moment that I've tested it as long as its desire to buy a bottle of 50ml took three days! The day I got tested a few other fragrances, but most of all impressed penetrating odor and the scent I was special.
May smell a bit strong at first appear and be uncomfortable for some minutes, but after advice will realize its aroma.
The smell is reminiscent of some cologne that I previously tested: Chergui, Rocabar and Comme des Garçons 2 Man.
My girlfriend loves it and always likes that I'm using this perfume!

Wrong mood, wrong time and wrong place.
I found it here in Ankara. Tried it because the bottle is designed highly chic and the price tempted me ($180). Whole I could smell was a perfect shut of cardamom and tobacco. Then checking the notes, I wondered! I took a try in Iran where I found it $75! That was perfect again. I bought it immediately and jumped out of shop! Smelt again my sleeve and it was disappointing. A horrible chemical soapy and waxy strawberry-like smell appears and disturbed me aw hard as it could, gave a bad headache. What was wrong me, I don't know. Maybe because of cold I ready for headache. I got back to the shop and refund it. I'm still a bit regretful because I bought rubbish Tom Ford for men then. I think its unisex versions are better, that black bottle. It was too harsh for me. Maybe next year I buy it again.
BUT what I found is that this perfume is only proper for mid autumn, not for winter and summer, maybe spring too.

After a day trying lots of fragrnces in London most had faded or merged into each other by the time i got on the train home. That is apart from Costume national homme which had softened but was still going strong. It is a romantic and unique scent the like which i have not smelled before. I do not smell any fruit in this fragrance but get a lot of the spicy elements which seem to have an almost minty freshness counter-balance. I love this fragrance and feel i should be wlaking through chilly romantic city when i wear this.

For a fleeting moment after spraying this sample, I thought I smelled plum or peach, but then it abruptly changed to soap, sandalwood, and herbs. Just a few minutes later the plum-peach-apricot scent returned in full force in the sillage, with the sandalwood soap staying close to the skin. For hours, CN Homme remains a sweet, lightly spiced fruit dessert, a gourmand scent if ever there was one. Gradually the fruits dissipate a bit, sharing the stage with a hint of light spices on top of sandalwood soap. In the end, a clean, peachy, soapy smell is all that remains.

This is actually a fairly pleasant fragrance, especially in its full-blown gourmand phase. However, I could do without the soapy notes and would like to have had a stronger, richer, woodier base to go with the cinnamon-flavored peaches. There is plenty of sillage and the scent lasts all day. I would classify this as gourmand-unisex rather than masculine.

Just purchased this at Barney's Chicago today. At first I was going to turn it down, but I kept smelling my hand and as it dried down I became intrigued. Several positive comments from women already!
