Comptoir Sud Pacifique presents their new collection inspired by Aoud as the central ingredient and theme of the line of Voyages to the Orient.
Four fragrances of the collection arrive in flacons of 100 ml (3.4 oz) EDP and will be available on the market from April 2009. Each of the fragrances has a small palm-shaped pendant on the neck of the bottle, which represents the brand of CSP and is featured on exotic logo of the company.
Aoud de Nuit is sensual and hypnotizing nectar, which reveals magic of the East, composed of wood and spices surrounded with vanilla and musk, along with tasty caramel drops. Top notes of the fragrance incorporate bergamot and currant buds and leaves. A heart blossoms with black rose, iris, vanilla, cardamom, saffron and cedar, while a base is filled with patchouli, caramel, sandalwood, Aoud, Tonka, musk and animalistic accords.

The first thing I smell is a lot of musty synthetic oud along with some warm, sweet, fruity notes. Don’t get me wrong, I love this combination. I have no objection whatsoever to synthetic oud, especially since agarwood trees are about to go extinct from too much harvesting, and the cost of using enough real oud to smell at this level would drive the price of the perfume to ridiculous heights. In fact, I really enjoy the scent of good synthetic oud, and this one is good.
As the top notes of the oud subside, there arises a gorgeous mix of fruity citrus, fruity rose, a tiny pinch of spice, and a warm, musky vanilla, with the oud still playing around in the background. The opening lasts for 2-3 hours with moderate sillage after which it dries down to a light, sweetish, musky amber skin scent, which is unremarkable. I love the rich first phase full of oud, rose, and fruit, I just wish it lasted a bit longer. Another “Montale for the masses”, using the same synthetic oud, but in higher concentration, so that you can really smell it.
It's a typical aoud scent and aoud is dominating. I can feel a weak sweet note near the skin. This one is not an usual CSP light fruity summer scent, I think it is more evening and can be used in cold weather too.
Caution: Be forewarned that I love potent orientals and can tolerate things which are well outside of most Westerner's olfactory comfort zone, ie, oud.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is very oud-y.
Its not real oud, i.e. the stuff that results from infections of the trees of the aquilaria genus in South East Asia, but one of the many chemical molecules termed "oud". I suspect that oud is so precious and so rare that any non-oil perfume that costs less than a week's wages is NOT made with it but with a "molecule" (modern day chemical company aromachemical)called "oud". There are several.
Aoud de Nuit is very well made, very exotic, and very good in its own ultra pungent mothballs and caramel morphing into woods and flowers way. Its weird, its wonderful; its almost the very essence of something exotic and thousand and one nightish.
But here comes my confession: I wear this a fair bit, but NEVER on its own. I use a tiny spray to make more pedestrian offerings exotic, and for this purpose, Aoud de Nuit is peerless and amazing.
No matter what I layer it with, from Western orientals to florals and even to gourmands, they morph into something fabulous, pretty much unrecognizable and compliment magnets par excellence.
If you hate it now, try a dab with something else. The result is magic.
I agree with scorpiosheep. I have never ever tried a scent that smells more of BO than this one.
Imagine walking up to the sweatiest man in dehli and sticking your nose into his armpit and inhaling. oud, spices and sweat. brrr
I can't smell the aoud in this at all: I get overwhelming curry and lacquer. There is a wood scent in there, but it's so generic it could easily be cedar or oak as aoud. If you like curry scents, this is your next sample to try. If you don't care for that Indian spice market feeling in your personal scent (my hand goes up) this is one to steer clear of.
OMG this is so strange! I have Aouda which unfortunately doesn't last long in my skin, but I love it. Night Aoud is so completely different, you get the oud definitely, but there is also a huge saffron note and MOTHBALLS as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of mothballs, but not so sure I want to wear it as a perfume. Aouda is much sweeter and the kind of perfume you could wear to bed and let its chocolatey sweetness wrap around you. Night Aoud would wake the dead. It is invigorating and confronting. I really can't decide if I like it or not..will have to come back to it later.
LATER: I couldn't hack it. After a couple of hours it developed into ammonia and B.O. Admittedly the B.O. part was rather nice and animalistic. I met my first husband when he was a hospital orderly, wheeling patients into theatre - I used to follow him down the corridor sniffing his pheromones! This is definitely NOT a fragrance for women, MEN ONLY. Tell you what, I had a hard time getting it all off too.
Excellent Oud scent. Normally, perfume lines try to make exotic oud perfumes but always fail (except classic ones like Montale). This Voyages to the Orient line is a success. The best out of four is Aoud de Nuit.
I did not expect a lot from the four aouds in this line but I was surprised. My favorite of all is Night Aoud: sweet, romantic and perfect for hot nighttime parties. A good spicy sweet aoud smell too, not fake or chemical. Very pleasant, and much more affordable than a lot of ouds out there.
Wow! What a discover! I've never been a fan of CSP fruity-vanillic fragrances, but this aoud is great! I was looking for a sultry, sweet, non chemical, feminine Arabian-type fragrance and here it is! I know the note list is almost scary, but this scent is very well blended and the final effect is intense and deep, but not heavy at all! I didn't know it is a unisex scent. It smells so sweet on my skin. Sweet but not cloying. Aoud is very predominant almost till the end in a very mellow way, less sharp than usual aoud fragrances. Rose, cardamom, saffron and tonka come out very bright, while the other notes are complementary and give an overall feeling of good mysterious Arabian nights blend. Possible purchase :-)
