This is a dead ringer for Dior Addict on me lots of vanilla (obviously but done well as it is not super sweet or foody) and sandalwood - minus the tonka bean which is a good thing as tonka and my chemistry don't tend to get along so well. Better than Avon's vanilla soft musk which is along the same lines but more baby powderish. The Coty line of musks and inexpensive fragrances are long unavailable in this country but I managed to pick a vintage bottle of this (from the early 90s) up for a bargain. This is also a dead ringer for an old 90's Impulse deodorant spray which was very popular during my teen years here in NZ called 'vanilla kisses' the guys loved it so I guess they may swoon for this too.
Lot of perfume snobs out there, to me if it smells nice and I get compliments then its a winner. I have so many scents that I like some really expensive and some not, like this one but its all how it makes you fell and this one smells rich and a lot better than a lot of the designer ones I have that pretty much all smell the same.
It was indeed 1994, when it was launched. I thnik I still remember this scent...remindes me of teenage years... all those excitments, dramas and cravings. All girls in the class used this one, alterate with Coty Exclamation or Chanson d'Eau. All Coty's, coincidentally...
Vanilla was a spicy one. I think it was because of musk - very sharp, decided and long lasting. Nevertheless, for me it was too sweet all the way, I used it, to blend in with the crowd.
Anyway, I left vanilla musk almost twenty years ago, and it is still there.
This is one of my favorite scents to layer with other fragrances. It smells like sandalwood and vanilla, but when I first spray it, it kind of smells like fruit loops haha. I like it though.. but I wish it would last longer. Hense the layering with other perfumes :)
Starts as total vanilla and not much else. Once it dries the woods come through but I got no musk until the next day and even then it was faint. Still nice though, for fans of a deep vanilla.
I haven't tried this out on my boyfriend yet, but this was a real winner with my little brother who said that it was a "hot or cold" weather perfume that he really enjoyed.
The best way I can describe this is: you are eating a vanilla creme candy made with artificial flavorings, while walking in a warehouse that stores sandalwood carvings and cedar chests.....and your friend next to you is wearing musk. The vanilla is more like vanilla extract from the supermarket, not real vanilla beans from the pod; it's not sophisticated, but it serves its purpose.
It's not exactly the vanilla musk I'm looking for, but it's definitely cute and sweet and great for vanilla lovers. The first time I smelled this, the opening made me a little nauseous, but after I got over that first time, and I knew what to expect, that never happened again. It's one of the better vanilla scents if you don't mind the artificialness of it. Again, it's like yummy vanilla flavored candy, but not at all like baked goods which I loathe in perfume. Not all vanilla fragrances are good...I have encountered some vanilla scents, especially in candles, that are so disgusting I literally gag. I was hoping it would be similar to this vanilla musk oil I have that I absolutely adore, but cannot get anymore because the seller changed suppliers or something. Coty's Vanilla Musk is good in its own way even if it's not my number one vanilla scent.
I'm extremely fond of vintage Cotys and I do enjoy my Wild Musk, so out of respect, I'll keep this in my stash, but I don't know that I would ever get the chance to wear this, because there are hundreds of bottles in that stash.
Now go on. Dig some coins out of your sofa and buy yourself a bottle and try it. Or you can wait for a gift set of 4 different Coty musks for $15 at the drugstore, if you'd like to try them all like I did.
This sweet scent feels airy on my skin...sweet tones of a vanilla candy first.Musk comes after vanilla as a warm and cozy vapor.Together they feel playful and sexy but not too loud. Some flirty spice coming from sandalwood in the background and the mix is warm and deliciously sweet. It lasts long and the drydown is pure warm sweetness...
bought a small 15ml for testing. while i hope that it's similar to Avon Vanilla Soft Musk, this is straight woody musk than vanilla on me. more on the woodsy musky note for sure...i feel a bit uneasy and the woodsiness in this makes it smells more musty and unsettling.
I bought a small bottle, looking for a cosy everyday vanilla scent. It probably does just that, but there is something in it reminding me of some "purple vanilla" body lotion by Betty Barclay I had years ago and the memories I have with that are very mixed. It has some kind of candy floss icing sugar smell to it. A little goes a long way.
I always get compliments when I wear this. It's a very feminine scent that is just lovely, perfect for any season.
I sprayed Vanilla Musk on my right arm and Hanae Mori on my left. They smell almost identical (to my nose anyway)! I could smell very slight differences in the drydown but they both smell awesome to me! I am happy I found Vanilla Musk and for so cheap! HUGE price jump from Hanae Mori and just as great smelling! A cheap perfume that doesn't smell cheap is always an exciting thing to find!
My first signature fragrance - I wore this literally every day in high school and went through bottles of it. Luckily, I had a fairy godmother (okay, just the godmother) who worked for Coty at the time and provided me with my fix whenever a birthday or the holidays came around. I remember how special and pretty this used to make me feel at a time when every other girl my age was wearing CK1 and I used to receive loads of compliments from males and females both.
What you see is what you get - vanilla + musk. On my skin, the scent leaned a little more towards the musk side, but luckily, the musk in this fragrance was perfect and a great balance for the vanilla, which is not too sweet or cloying, like so many of the incarnations that have come after from other perfumers. This is the vanilla fragrance which I subconsciously weigh all other vanilla scents against. The bottle is much like the perfume - simple and unassuming. Excellent price point and value, and this would be a wonderful introduction to more mature fragrance for a tween who is interested in trying something a little more 'grown up.'
Oh how i love this perfume.
I have so many perfumes now that this one gets left behind way too often but today i sprayed it on and got flooded with joy and happy memories.
My first thoughts were>>> Mmmmmm Vanilla musk you are who i am :)
I know I know,,Cheesy right?! hahaha But this perfume has always been tried tested and true in my perfume wardrobe for years. Its never bored me or been one that I've grown tired of. Its simple and just plain nice.
I have $100.00 perfumes that i like WAY less than Vanilla musk and i bought this in a 4 pack for about $15.00.
I don't know but i like it and that's that :)
What you get is simply..Vanilla & musk :)
The smell is lovely, but I made the mistake of overspraying and it made me so nauseous that I had to get rid of it. This has never happened to me before and I like strong vanilla-based fumes, so I suspect there is an ingredient in there that doesn't agree with me. So sad.
Coty Vanilla Musk is sweet, but not sugary. The musk is soft, lightly powdery, and blended well with a very light touch of cedar. Overall a gentle very rich natural smooth vanilla creamy skin scent, Vanilla Musk lasts more than 8 hours. Beautiful worn alone, not at all overpowering. Vanilla Musk is also excellent for blending with other perfumes to soften sharp notes, and to add depth and lasting power.
This is a standard that I always fall back on. It always pleases me and I get compliments from others.
"AddictedToLife"...go ahead...buy it! :o)
You won't regret it for a second!
I love it! I want it so bad!
Had to give Vanilla Musk a try, based on all the great reviews.
(I too have a "perfume obsession", I must admit!) To my surprise I love this one! It had to grow on me, though. I was patient with it and tried not to judge it too quickly, and sure enough it paid me off with an oh so lovely embrace of its glorious and subtle beauty. I definitely detect the cedar and sandalwood right from jump street...these two are what really gives this fragrance depth and dimension. Its a very well balanced; uncomplicated fragrance, and the combination of vanilla / musk / sandalwood / cedar settles into a divine aroma as the day goes on. Perfect! So long lasting, too. Ahhhhhhhh... And this particular version of vanilla is amazing; very creamy and gorgeous! No regrets in purchasing this. Had my doubts at first and it took a little getting used to because this typically is not the type of fragrance I would wear. In fact I've overlooked this for a very long time because I did not think it was for me. Wrong! I'm so pleased, and I will continue to keep this in stock on my dresser, along with a few other new found fragrances I've acquired, thanks to all the helpful reviews on Fragrantica. So inexpensive for such a superb fragrance! Try it...you won't be disappointed!! :o)
I've loved this fragrance since I was very young. My mom always had this and Vanilla Fields in her collection. I always preferred Vanilla Musk though. It's been at least 12 years since I've smelled this and so I tested it the other day. It's still darling as ever. Very creamy vanilla with a blast of woods. I need to buy a bottle!
So glad to see I'm not alone!
I found this one buried in my perfume box a couple months ago. While it's an older bottle, it's been left out of the light and still smells wonderful.
It's warm, creamy, inviting, smooth. It has a sweetness but what I would call a matured sweet. This is not a "sugar" cotton candy kind of sweet. Defiantly a well rounded unique vanilla. The wood elements are just right. The musk is of course detecable but vanilla is truly this fragrence's main event. Classy yet casual and above all a classic. I'm so happy it works well with my body chemistry. It's amazingly versitile day, night, summer, winter. I'm just in love with this right now. For a cheap perfume, it delivers and exceeds your expectations.
This was a blind buy that I saw at Walmart dirt cheap. I am a vanilla fan so when I saw that name was Vanilla Musk, I figured "how bad could this be?"
It even better than I expected-sweet, warm, musky vanilla that smells absolutely delicious.
I thought it smelled familiar so when I read the reviews here, I saw the comparison to Hanae Mori-it does smell simular. I think HM is bit more complex with teensy bit more fruit. However, I prefer Vanilla Musk because its just as wondeful and last a lot longer than HM(you can read my review on HM to see how bad the lasting power was and that's why I never purchased it).
This is now one of my absolute favorites and I only hope they don't stop making it
This scent is pretty....however, the last bottle I bought was definately old and smelled so bad. If you hate this you probably have an old bottle cuz this is so good....I mean good. Wow....coty made this one to be a keeper! I prefer this in thr cold or in the evenings. It's sweet and not too strong. I received compliments on this sweet little drugstore number. For whatever reason vanilla, sandalwood and cedar smell great on me and this one has all of those ingredients....still, if you get an old smelly rancid bottle its so gross...someone just gave me a bottle for my birthday and the last bottle I had was really old and expired so I was dreading spraying this one again.....this fresh bottle smells amazing. It sits next to shalimar on my dresser and they both get equal time...
This is the perfect fragrance to use in addition to other vanilla based florals or even heavy white florals to "tone-down" or "warm up" their harshness. I don't get a synthetic scent from this, although it is obvious the musk is a chemical generation. I always use this below the torso so I don't overload my nose and end up with a headache because it is strong, but I wouldn't say "loud". The perfect scent to try if you are new to layering or mixing fragrances. Who knows, perhaps you will end up with a signature worthy scent you created all by yourself! :)
I had to re-try this fragrance. I owned it in high school but gave it away because something about it would just catch the back of my throat and make me feel slightly ill. I thought maybe, after so many years and being exposed to so many gourmand, vanilla fragrances lately, I might have a different feeling about Vanilla Musk.
Unfortunately not. This is a very spicy vanilla fragrance in my opinion, it actually smells less sweet than I remember (probably because the bar has been raised for super sweet fragrances) and the cedar really emerges from the vanilla musk scent. This is not for me, but I could see someone who loves oriental vanillas liking this and I think for the price, it's worth a try.
Well I love Vanilla and I love Musk but this frag gives me a headache like no other frag has ever done. It's the only Coty I've ever tried so maybe it's some vanilla or musk synthetic only Coty use?
Since I recently fell head over heels for Hanae Mori I just had to try this one. I can not tell you how many times I have walked past this little beauty in drugstores, supermarkets, discount stores, you name it! I have always seen it but never payed attention. What was I thinking? I have never got so many compliments on a perfume in my entire life, ever! My man is obsessed with me wearing only this one and Hanae Mori edp now. My entire family just loves this one, my co-workers are convinced that my perfume obsession will come to an end with this one (not gonna happen though) This is a delish frag! For a "drugstore" frag, noone said it smelled familiar or "your wearing a coty!" lol they just said "mmmm you smell gooooood"
A must have for every womans wardrobe! Perfect for when you don't really feel like wearing a "perfume" because it is just so natural. A natural vanilla musk. Yummy, sexy, clean, delish, uber feminine. Love it! Great for layering too!
Other than the peach note, this is almost IDENTICAL to Burberry Burberry. I sprayed each on a wrist, and cannot tell them apart other than Burberry's ever so slight peach note. Get this one!!! Much cheaper than Burberry, and the peach is so slight in Burberry, I don't think you'll even miss it.
Both cozy warm skin scent:)
This one I wore back in college. Back then I was in love with vanilla frags...
Is so casual, musky (of course) and sweet. I bought a bottle today as it was on sale...and I'm back in love. It's a weekend, go to the beach, jean's day scent. As some of you wrote, it's perfect for layering.
A gentle, lasting and pretty scent, just musky enough so it is not foody but more on the sensual side. I had forgotten that bottle, reaching for my Lolita Lempikas , Michael Koors, Chanels and Guerlains. But on this chilly morning ( minus 6 - good weather for Febuary here!) I revisited this tender and soothing little gem. I am back in love. This will be great for layering with my patchouli oils and other less well-rounded fragrances. And i love it for night time! I softly fall asleep while inhaling the deep goodness and comfort of it. To not overlook!
This is a great wintertime perfume. The type of fragrance that accompanies a cozy sweater and a chilly breeze.
Vanilla & musk.. that about sums it up! But it's not cheap smelling it's wonderful.. Smooth, quite sweet, the musk isn't to heavy but add's some depth. The cedar is sharp at first but it calms down after a little while.
I must have smelled this on others when I was a kid because I'm reminded of the 90's by it.
1oz for only $14.00 and that isn't even a discount price. I've overlooked the bottle many times like it didn't even exist, I had no idea I'd like it so much.
Musk being in the name probably scared me the most from it, heavy musks aren't my style.
Wow, this is a surprise. I leave my fragrance snobbery at the door with this one... It's lovely!!
And it reminds me hugely of Chopard Casmir - BIG time!
Loves it!
Just revisited this scent in a Christmas Time 4 pack sampler of all the Coty/Jovan Musks...I'd forgotten how much I like this. Even my husband came in the room after I'd sprayed myself commenting, "Mmm, something smells really good in here." SOLD!
Got this on a whim on Sunday at Target, and it's a lovely find. I love vanilla and I've never had a musk among my wardrobe (so I'm dipping my toe into the musk pool before ordering that sample of MKK:)). I was wondering what the odd, sort of citrus-y opening note was, seeing the composition I see it's cedar, though to my nose/on my skin it's not very cedar-y. I do like how sweet this gets without being cloyingly sweet and the lasting power is also very nice.
I had a sample of Reminisence Musc which I'm nursing, this smells just as nice, is a bit more agressive, and lasts better on me. Also, it can't be beat for the price. This is one blind buy I don't regret.
This is a really beautiful perfume. Very "pure" for lack of a better term.
It doesn't last on my skin, but for the price, it doesn't have to.
I love this stuff!
The cedar keeps the edge of sweetness off, and whoever said it's not a "foody" vanilla is right on.
It's dry and has something floral in there.
The sandalwood is mild and, on my skin, the musk is negligible.
Check this one out, it won't disappoint.
Just lovely. I haven't worn this in months because I've been infatuated with L de Lolita Lempicka, which is a more complex vanilla scent. This is a smooth, comforting, uncomplicated vanilla/sandalwood. An awesome drugstore bargain that smells better than a lot of the big name perfumes out on the market now.
At first spray I can't stand this scent, but it eventually becomes very nice. On me it starts out smelling nothing like vanilla. All I get is cedar and artificial scents (cedar being one of my least favorite scents). And it reminds me of the smell of musty, old items after they've been sitting in a cedar trunk for a very long period of time. But after a while the cedar nearly dissapears, taking a back seat to the vanilla. The longer it is on my skin the sweeter and warmer this scent becomes. It also had very good lasting power.
This is just what it says! A cozy and safe vanilla musky scent with a hint of cedar so its not too far on the sweet side! More of a natural vanilla rather than a foody vanilla! Just perfect for those days when Im just craving vanilla : )
Vanilla Musk was my first slightly grown-up fragrance. It was a big deal for me because the packaging wasn't the same little-girl pastels as the Love's perfume that I had worn in middle school. 1994 would put it right at the start of my high school years, and I remember wearing it in high school. I kind of liked it, and kind of didn't...there was always this odd lemony hint that I couldn't quite place and didn't like. The vanilla was light and sweet, and that redeemed it for me then. It is not something I would wear today, but I have fond memories of it.
Pretty. It's a sweet vanilla with a soft and gentle musk. Perfect for fall and winter.
delicious smokey intense vanilla. perfect for layering....or right before going to "sleep".
I loved this sniffed out of the bottle, and I am surprised I do not like it much better than I actually do. On me the cedar seems to pull up too strongly for my taste. It is reasonably long-lasting, especially for the price. It is okay but I will not re-purchase.
I love this don't get this in South Africa anymore. Anyone willing to sent me a bottle please please?
Vanilla Musk is definitely my favourite vanilla scent. It smells sweet and slightly oriental, with the vanilla blended so beautifully with the sandalwood, cedar, and musk. This is a must for the cold days of autumn and winter. Wearing this is like sitting in front of a fireplace. It warms you up and makes you feel so comfortable. I also enjoy wearing it on rainy days, for the same purpose.
At first I was not a big fan of the vanilla musk but I must say last night it won me over!! I went on a date .. Mixed it up with a bit of pearberry lotion wow I smelled sooo good. The guy couldn't stop smelling me!! I felt so warm and sensual out ang about on one of the first summer nights.. Settles down beautifully!!! Ah
Love it!like a blanket of vanilla!coty are gd with their sweet vanilla!
God, this scent is incredible. I have gotten more compliments wearing this than wearing Rock'n Rose and other pricier perfumes. The dry down is a beautiful sweet, powdery yet rich finish. Like a great vanilla candle covered with a layer of powder and dipped in musk. Beautiful!
At the initial spray there is a metallic orangey tang to it that could put you off as it's quite strong. Its not horrible, its just weird. However give this 20 minutes and it softens into a beautiful easygoing vanilla musk, just like the name says. its not the type of musk that smells like animals or unwashed humans its a soft pretty musk and the vanilla is not a foody cloying vanilla, although it is a little sweet, but its almost like an oriental vanilla. I think thats the sandal and cedarwood in the mix, it lends a bit of depth to the combination. All in all a delightful scent for such a cheap price, after the top notes drydown this would be suitable for anything but also a good bed scent.
I owned this particular fragrance three times that's how much I ended up loving it. I still sometimes miss it for a night out or a great date. It's perfect for that occasion. It's warm, almost exotic, and also spicy but not too spicy. The vanilla adds the warmth to it and also makes it a familiar scent. It's got the right balance of warmth and spice. I think this fragrance is definitely one for the night time and in my opnion is very sexy. I also noticed most men loved it on me. I read later on that men are drawn to vanilla, they find the scent very familiar and therefore are attracted to it subconsciously. Something to keep in mind. No wonder it works so well on dates and for the night time.
One of my best friends wears this and she always smells so good.I sometimes wish she didn't wear it so I could.
I feel slightly nauseous just remembering it. I bought this before grade 9 when this one and Vanilla Fields were super popular. I think I managed to wear it for one day, maybe two, before it gave me such a headache and stomachache that I had to give it away. Looking at the ingredients list now I realize that, while I love all the ingredients but amber, there isn't really anything lighter or cleaner to balance out the heaviness of the scent and I think that's exactly what the problem is; it's just too bottom heavy and overpowering.
