I must hand it to The French; when it comes to olfactory sentimentality, to that one kick of a special something in a fragrance that will break your heart, they can't be beat. Is it appreciation for "Jolie Laide"--for the contrasts and complexities in scent, pieces that can't always be understood when broken apart, but together, they paint a perfect picture of real life? I don't know. What I do know, is that "Crazy Libellule & The Poppies", a quirky, obscenely affordable little brand from the heart of Paris, is peppered with a trove of unique, yet uniform scents that all boast perfect combinations of fresh and carnal.
"L'Olfactive 127" opens on a juicy-fresh burst of mandarin that starts crisp, then almost begins to overripen before being joined by a smooth, waxy jasmine and minerally rose, the succulant sweetness of orange flower trailing behind. There's a breeziness to "L' Olfactive 127" that almost enters "clean linen" territory, before its quickly saved from banality by an organic, wet leaves note, moving into grassy territory. The greens subside, only to reveal a strange kind of "clean"; like a wet, towel-dried, freshly shampooed head, cozying into fresh linens and a well-loved pillow, re-activating the slightest hint of hair sebum. It feel langourous, dreamy, yet vitally sweet, like lemonade being sloshed while reading, the occasional burst of fruit and citrus against skin molecules, released with the flick of a tendril. Nice job, Crazy Libellule. A cheeky, provocative take on the "Squeaky-clean-fruity-floral".
Each Crazylibellule L`Olfactive perfume is based on a particular & in-depth sensory memory. 127 is the story of an afternoon nap in Sainte Cécile les Vignes, a small, peaceful town in France known as "Provence of the Popes." The fragrance journey - written on a tiny, perfect book hanging from ribbons entwined around the bottle's neck - describes the linen sheets, slatted blinds with rays of sunshine, a mysterious man laying on the bed "...a tiny ray of light goes through the room and sparkles on his skin." The taste of apricot sorbet still present, the scent of his musk on the dressing gown draped over the chair, a blue bottle containing orange water, the heat outside, children giggling...
Amazingly, the ambiance described is distinctly discernable - there is a langourous sexuality to this perfume, a sense of snuggling on rumpled sheets in the heat of the afternoon following an amorous encounter. The apricot is warm, juicy, tempered with subtle jasmin and the undercurrent of clean musk. A skin scent, not fresh from the shower, but of skin warmed by the sunshine, by a lover's touch.
127 is not an overpowering fragrance, it has depth, certainly, but stays close to the skin rather than leaving a trail. After a couple of hours, you need to get close to smell this on someone... but perhaps that is the point!
Delectable and perfect for the spring or the heat of a summer's day, this is both comforting and uplifting. The packaging and stories that come with the perfume are lovely, really unique and would make a wonderful gift. This is a fun, vibrant company with an addictive nonchalance & an exuberant joie de vivre!
