Potion DSQUARED² for men

The scent is warm and spicy, has an unusual sweetness. I tested Potion many times, with high hopes but sadly I'm not impressed. I quite like cinnamon, but there's a very medicinal vibe here that I don't find appealing; the drydown reminds me of Tiger Balm ointment. Oh well... stay with my He Wood.

Nice for christmas, smells gingerbread

As soon as seen this on sale in a U.S. chain store here in Canada I swooped in and bought it; Only to realize when I got home this was the EDT version. Which I didn't know existed.
Still being well worth the money(29.00). It is indeed not as rich or long lasting. check your testers closely before condemning the longevity of this. Testing the EDP in department stores I remeber it to be a long lasting smokey sweet spicy male oriental. My Edt is A sweet amber with I swear to be a very natural vanilla added to the base, traces of patch and cinnimon. Possibly some Angeliica woods and musk. anything else is not detectable in the edt for me.
As i miss the nice red mint from the top notes of the edp and the spicy richness ( even if close to the skin) I may have to go purchase the edp now. as this edt just makes me crave the other more.

One of the best designer releases of the last couple of years. Calm down, don't get too excited, Potion is pretty decent but still far from being groundbreaking or full bottle worthy. Basically this is a spicy-woody fragrance laying on a patchouli/amber base with an overall incensey vibe that brings to mind of early 2000 releases by Gucci (e.g. Gucci Pour Homme I) or, for other aspects, even Dirty English by Juicy Couture.

Moderately sweet, bold but not overpowering and far from the typical sporty approach of most of todays masculines. If you're on a budget but you want to avoid smelling like anybody else, this is a very presentable alternative. Dsquared is quickly becoming one of the most decent designer brands of the past few years.

Downside: even if not overdone, the fragrance suffers from the usual woody amber base that's typical of way too many modern fragrances (either niche or designer).

WOW, I don't find proper words, ...this is like incense from Heaven. Mysterious and very seductive perfume. I would say it reminds me of some Arab perfumes.... it's so rich woody-spicy smoky smell, just wonderful! I can imagine it works great in summer (evening)!
I've bought it yesterday - for myself. It's declared men's, but with no doubt it's very unisex.

A warmth and sensual fragrance, featured a very strong sweet cinnamon scent. Start with sweet minty chewing gum scent, then mellow to sweet and strong cinnamon scent! Last note is mild woody note. Projection is weak, stay closed to skin, need to sniff to get the scents. Longevity is worst for a Eau De Parfum, it last 3 hours max on my skin, I think this is not acceptable at all.

Overall is a nice warmth fall/ winter scent, nothing ground breaking or surprise. Shame on the false claim on E.D.P graded fragrance, thou, a normal stronger winter EDT can to out beat this one!

A very sensual woody-amber-incense fragrance, that is a little reminiscent of Tom Ford- Oud Wood. I do get an oud-amber accord that is not as vanillic as in the previously mentioned fragrance, and I also do get a similarity with Gucci Pour Homme 2003. It is however a Potion, reminiscent of a vintage pharmacy product, where you mix various extracts to obtain a remedy. Annick Menardo does put here a Heliotrope accord( I do believe it's her signature), but it is not as sweet as Au Masculin or Jaipur Homme( the cinnamon note is the link between the two). It does reference a lot of her mainstream releases, like a more mature Body Kouros with some fresh-spicy elements from Xeryus Rouge, some spicy-sweet notes from Jaipur and Au Masculin, with some incense that we also find in Bvlgari Black. A masterpiece with light sillage, but good lasting power...It could have been released as a niche perfume easily. By the way, I reference it more as Potion by Annick Menardo rather than By Dsquared2.

Maybe Annick Menardo should help Serge Lutens and Christopher Sheldrake on a new and fascinating release, cause she is amazing.

A good woody fragrance with sweetness in it!
Start with woodsy notes and huge blast of cinnamon and pepper, some incense and some sweetness from amber and musk.
It's a little harsh at the start but only for a few seconds.
Then the sweetness of amber and musk with some woodsy notes blind everything and push them in the background and dominate through the whole fragrance life on your skin! The sweetness is a little too much for a woody frgrance!
I already have the EDP version but both projection and longevity are average and some times below average!
It's a big thumbs down for a fragrance with EDP concentration!
If you want to buy this fragrance to have another masterpiece like "Gucci Pour Homme" this will be a big disappointment for you, just like me! :(
يه عطر نسبتا خوب با رايحه جنگلي و چوب ها به همراه يه عالمه رايحه شيرين
اولش بوي گرم، تند و شيرين بدليل وجود فلفل و مشك و عنبر ميده به همراه رايحه چوب و يه عالمه دارچين
بوي بدي نيست و دوست داشتني هست
در ادامه متاسفانه بوش شيرين تر ميشه به همراه رايحه جنگلي و چوبها كه زياد با هم تناسب ندارن. رايحه شيرين تلخي و تندي عطرٌ تا حد زيادي ميگيره كه شخصا منو خيلي نااميد كرد
با اينكه غلظت ساخت عطر بصورت پرفيوم هست اما پخش بو و ماندگاري كمي داره روي پوست كه يه نكته منفي ديگه هست
اگه به اميد اينكه يه عطري شبيه گوچي پور هوم خواهيد داشت ميرين سمتش، به طور حتم مثل من شديدا نااميد خواهيد شد
من اشتباه كردم بدون تست خريدم و الان پشيمونم. شما همچين اشتباهي نكنيد و حتما تست كنيد، اگه خوشتون اومد بخرين
اگه بو تو اين مايه ها ميخواين درتي انگليش هم خوشبو تره و هم قيمتش نصف اينه. بوشون هم تا حد زيادي شبيه همه با اين تفاوت كه به نظر من باز درتي انگليش بوش بهتره

even though this is is a mass marketed perfume, i actually find it very similar to cdg niche series 3 incense, the only difference being that it is more dense and sweet, to that respect i also think it's almost identical to gucci pour homme (the original one, now discontinued), if you cannot find/afford gucci pour homme then this is definitely a worthy alternative. worth trying and buying a fb.

**update** it's not as dense as the cdg series, nor as smoky as gucci pour homme, but still worth owning. even though is classified as a perfume, i find it quite light and wearing close to the skin, i think it can definitely be worn at the office and throughout the day.

this one is defantly UNISEX even more femmine... its sweet and yummy , very diffrent from otthere DSqure- new line will be shown in the next year - i wish..i love the bottle al lot...

i smelled it yesterday and must confess i like it very much maybe if i buy a bottle i will start to love it!!

When to wear ?
For sure its for dates, special occasions, cocktail partys, not for everyday use (1-2 days in a week not more)

type of scent: dark, warm, sweet, oriental, creamy

how to dress ? A good perfume needs a special dressed man at least well dressed for example no hoodies, no sneakers therefore dress with casual shirts or blazers nice jeans (if possible not dry washed look)

Potion stays about 8 hours enough to impress someone but unfortunately it stays very close and you can smell a lot of incense

I have just bought the bottle, and have only worn it once so far.
So far I love it: warming, easy on the nose, non-offensive. And reminds me a root beer.
I will add my take on this once I try it more.

Added: Yes, I still get a scent that is like old fashioned root beer, love it. Longevity is average/good, and projection is just average but that suits me just fine. To my nose, this scent is great and unique. Awesome bottle and sprays very well.

Seductive? Sexy? Dirty? Absolutely! I LOVE this scent. It's oriental, sensual, dark, maskuline. I want to have sex with one of my friends who wears it all the time, too bad he's gay!

Very nice EDT almost similar to my favorite but unfortunately discontinued Azzaro visit worm and sexy

Does anyone sniff any similarities with Guerlain L`Instant edt at the beginnin or is it just my untrained nose? lmao The beginnin of this reminds me of L´Instant then it goes more to the direction of Givenchy Play intense becomes sweeter and some hints of spices. Its smooth and calm, alittle creamy. I would also say this is Dsquared best of them all, its longevity is good but it stays very close to the skin, projection was definatley below average. Its for the evening and romantic moment where yo mate has gotta come closer to whiff it, its very sensual and warm, comforting. I notice so many parralels with other fragrances, I just cant remember which ones just yet. Its definatley nice.

An EDP which advertises on its back quality ingredients to form a seductive scent, and that is what it does...

0-5 Mins - A familiar scent, not unique.

5 mins- 3 hours Scent is soft and kind on the nose, it is a sticky cinammon like and could be a little gourmand. Tangy and yummy and fresh to an extent. It is an eau de parfum from the perspective that it is a rich and quality scent, not so much from a projection point of view. Projects around 1 foot around max. Scent is very gentle, yet slightly gourmand and sooooooo well balanced!!!, it is exceptionally well made

3- 12 hours - Very long lasting but projection very limited, if at all. I do confess to spraying bed clothing... it is one to snuggle up to, So cute and cuddly, this is the intimate master. Do women find this seductive? I doubt, my wife did not, but the wearer i.e. me...does

The best of the Dsquared. Quality scent, though familiar.

Sorry "Tuscany" below, but to my nose POTION smells absolutely nothing like "Dirty English". Like zero, not even remotely similar ! ~ (Also, in my opinion, DE is nowhere near as good as P.)

I think Potion is hands down THE best fragrance released by DSquared2 so far. And a definite must-try for anyone who enjoys cinnamon in fragrances. It's warm and spicy and gently woody. And good from start to finish. It smells absolutely fantastic ! And perfect for the fall/winter weather.
As for those complaining of lousy longevity. I won't say that it has excellent longevity, as I have a fair few frags that easily out perform Potion. Still, I think it's longevity is easily average. (As is it's moderate sillage).
~ Now I need to try the oil. I have high hopes for it !
All in all it certainly gets a thumbs-up from me.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me where to find this in USA. I've been using Dsquared perfume all the time, so I think even though I haven't tried yet I'll get it. But couldn't find any online retailer but one UK store, where they don't deduct VAT.

It is absolutely spectacular.
Ideal for those who like perfume dark.
One of the best perfumes created in recent times.
Being Eau de Parfum, the projection and longevity are excellent.
The bottle is spectacular.

A lovely warm, caramel scent.

Alas, both the projection and longevity are abysmal. Even sprayed on clothing, it's gone after a couple of hours. The smell may be lovely, but it's a complete waste of money as it simply doesn't last.

The scent is excellent, but longevity for EDP should be more then 4 hours!
Also the projection is almost nil. Honestly I myself can’t smell anything so what about others!
I bout this perfume just because Annick Menard name was attached to it, and for first time she disappointed me.

I like this fragrance, but then again, it's the kind of fragrance I like - rich, deep, musky, sexy.

It is a manly scent, though the rose and cinnamon do give it a somewhat unisex vibe as well.

I have the EDP (not the EDT that Potion also comes in). Longevity doesn't seem to be an issue for me.

New one from d2square,amazing stuff,different from all the fragrances that they brought out,to me,it smell's like Dirty English from Juicy Couture,spicy and smokey..not for the faint harted..

This is very expressive and spicey. I find this quite interesting for a man but it is also very strong. So maybe it is only good to use it at evenings out. It smells like a strong mix of spices (cinnamon/pepper) and a sort of alcohol, maybe brandy.

It smells like Nature Millenaire pour Homme but light version, tragedy longlasting and projection is also not goood. too much cinnamon

I have bought the 50ml EDP, it starts off very peppery and the musk is quite intense. I can see a slight comparison with Gucci Pour Homme. I also agree with the sexy smoky smell that lingers in this scent. I get a creamy soft woods and a slighty powdery sweet dry down.
After wearing this for a couple of days I have to admit although I love the smell of this fragrance for a EDP it fades away pretty quickly. Compared to He Wood fragrances they last longer on my skin and they are EDT.
I am pretty tempted to purchase the 15ml Perfume Oil, if anybody has tested the oil let me know regards the longevity, sillage etc. Surely, the oil would be more intense?

I can see why some people compare it to Gucci Pour Homme, but I think Potion is much more sweet and the musk is really noticeable and strong. So this could be described as a mix between Gucci Pour Homme and Le Male, but more unisex than those.

In fact, the opening reminds me of the smell of custard.

I havent tried the original Gucci Pour homme so cant compare the two.I can slightly see the connection with L'instant but I can also throw in the edt version of Heritage.am not sure about Antaues-guess I got to revisit it.

what sets this apart is I guess the cashmere wood mixing very well with the amber to give off this intoxicating scent.the woody scent here is reminiscent of ones you get in comme des garcons fragrance and am thinking 2 Man here which am told is a rip off of GPH.

the only problem I have with the bottle I got here is the spritzer seems to drip when you apply force to it.I guess am not doing it well.

for those who dont like this am not sure what else will please you.I am more than OK with the scent-sillage and longevity are good to me.It is clearly an evening,cold or cool weather scent.it will not work on a scorching day:you'll be choking yourself.
I was in love with Rocky Mountain but I can see this one easily taking over.it's clearly a departure from the DSquared range we have become accustomed to.

Potion is AMAZING!

Love at first smell, which happens to me very rarely, really. Last time was more than a year ago, with Epic by Amouage. Go figure.
I tried Potion 2 times so far and each time I adore it more.

When I sprayed it on paper, I could smell almost nothing. A barely-there, woody skin-scent.

But when I sprayed in on my wrist ... Oh, my!
What a perfect blend! Sensual, comforting, smooth, polished ... Amber, patchouli, musk & cashmere wood, all in ideal proportions, just perfect balance. To my nose, spices play the second role.
I don't get any from the top notes - like the scent is going straight to its heart to reveal everything best it has.

Is it masculine? Yes, it is.
Could a woman wear this? Definitely yes ... Potion goes straight to my 'love-list'.

My man says this scent smells too manly on my skin, but I love it, everything about it.

The sillage is medium, won't bother anyone, but the scent is noticeable.
The staying power is good as for DSQUARED2 (4-5 hours) - probably because it'a an EDP - finally.

It is not something I would wear on myself. Definetely too reminiscent of a church. It is repeating the smell of the incense that is burnt in Catholic or Orthodox churches. Depressive!!

It gives off a very masculine vibe, deep and sensual..it just hit the shelves today in Greece and i am definitely suggesting to my husband!

I was expecting an eau de parfum and i got an eau de toilette.Anyway. A very nice vanilla cinnamon opening reminding me of a christmas yankee candle.it also reminds me of a much lighter and less complex amber absolute-tom ford drydown, or tobacco vanille.This is terribly smooth,terrible longevity(2-3hours), light, sensual and absolutely unisex. Nothing ground braking here, still a very nice familiar scent.

I love this fragrence :) .. you could compare the smell with a big red chewing gum with less sweetness or a nice vanilla cinnemon cristmas cookie...

I just bought this today in London in the only store that stocks this at the moment. I definitely think it's great. I think BrettyBoy described it best when he said that it kind of smells like a blown out vanilla candle.
It is spicy but mild to the nose. It also has great lasting power.

for sure one of the 5 will be discontinued!! but we don't know yet!!! we will know at the end of the year. if the sales are good for all the 5 fragrances the gonna stay on the shops, if not for sure rocky mountain will be discontinued. we sold about 10 bottles on an year, so that's not enough to stay :((

I tried this today and its absolutely amazing. It is soft,spicy and sensuously smoky. In a bizarre way it smells like blowing out a vanilla candle. To my nose it has certain similarities with earlier Mark Buxton works.
It is not a spillage monster by any means but lasts a long time.

In malaysia you can find it in SASA shop, they sell perfume, in KL almost, all major mall have it, in Penang if i am not mistaken, there is also one SASA shop there. I have checked last week in SASA Midvalley and alamanda, it is not in yet, so wait for it patiently :-)

completely different from the "Wood" serie, it is very dense, dark, smocky...it is very rounded & cocooning,sensual...on skin it has a great longlasting...
