I remember this in the pink cap vintage version. I cannot find it anywhere now, but I loved this back in the 90's. It was a bit like Blue Jeans from the 70's, (to me at least) ... something about it is very similar. Loved Tabu too but this was my favorite.

Wow sweetness! I think this is the sweetest perfume I've ever applied. It has a very different scent. The praline comes across as far too strong to be considered a fruity floral. But there is too definite a floral undertone to consider it gourmand. All together it is just SWEET! I detect papaya, kiwi and praline the most in this fragrance. There isn't really anything to balance out the sweetness. It needs a stronger woody base to it. I don't mind this scent, but I'd be interested to try the original.

I would put this in the same family as Sonia Rykiel but Sonia is more defined and sophisticated (higher quality). It also reminds me of D&G 10.
This version of Ambush is Modern Yummy and Sexy.

When I was in high school in the 60's, there were two Big Ones in the world of perfume: Tabu, and Ambush. Tabu, the spice bomb, swirled about in the air in direct conflict with Ambush. I favored Tabu, unfortunately Ambush smelled exactly like bug spray on me. I didn't know it was still around, but it's unfortunate the non-stop fruit train in the world of scent has derailed this classic fragrance.

Yesterday I saw my bottle again (I really forget what I have sometimes!) and thought, that's right! Let's try it again! And I really loved it!!!!
It is quite great for a cheapie! It is gourmand to my nose, the praline comes very quickly! So this version Ambush is quite modern! GREAT price too!

Awful! Not the original fragrance at all. This reformulation is yet another strong, stinky, they all smell alike celebrity type scent. The only distinguishing thing about it is the overwhelming fruitiness of it.

Completely surprised by this! Although I'm sure at some point years ago when this was so popular I must have picked up a bottle, sniffed, and passed it up. So, I do not remember what the original Ambush was like. I am quite sure that this reformulation is much different than the original. This current Ambush is right in line with the other current popular fragrances that have the sweet note in them. In fact when I had my young daughter blind-sniff this she guessed it to be Hillary Duff's With Love. I find this to be quite enjoyable. Ambush has a nice warm, rich sweetness that doesn't make me feel like I placed a cupcake under my nose, or candied nuts either. I recommend giving this a try. For the price you really can't go wrong!

Wow! What a difference a few decades make. I remember Ambush from the 1960s. It definitely had sweetness, but it was balanced by herbal and woody notes.

What's with all this frickin' fruit? Kiwi and papaya were not in the original. Patooey!

Then again, i read young people on these boards complaining how classic scents smell "like an old lady". Those classics are without the sugary sweetness, excess of vanilla, and heaps of fruity toppings of so many perfumes of the past decade or 15 years.

I am SOOOOO tired of perfumes, and the women who wear them, smelling like spoiled desserts. I eagerly await the time when the fashion for strongly fruity, excessively vanilla'd, and painfully sweet perfumes dissipates.

And i think it's tragic that deep complex perfumes are reformulated to smell more like "celebrity" fragrances that will probably not survive the time in the spotlight of their namesakes.

As anyone my age can tell you this is a reformulated version of the original Ambush and is a modern, a very modern but prosaic fruity floral. It has a citrusy opening, a floral heart and puh-lenty of vanilla and sandalwood in the base. It is an ok scent but rather pedestrian. I didn't buy it, because I remembered the original scent, a scent that was favored by about a third of the girls I grew up with.

The original scent started with angelica and basil, kept the floral heart but added augmented it with mignonette, ylang and lavender. The finish was free of vanilla and focused on the sandal, tonka and a very liberal amount of musk. It was considered sexy and was very date night popular. It was a recognizeable icon of its day.

The current version should be scrapped, we could do with way more musky florals and less papaya.
