In August 2008 the jeweler's house of David and Sybil Yurman will include a new fragrant jewel of their portfolio. It is a women's fragrance, floral-chypre, created in cooperation with Harry Fermont of Firmenich.
The signature fragrance David Yurman Fragrance brings wafts of mandarin, and fresh green notes of black currant leaf and petals, followed by floral notes of peony, water lily, rose otto, patchouli, exotic woods and musk. This composition is not pyramidal; its aromas interlace and add to each other. The intention behind the composition of this fragrance was not to accentuate one note, neither to characterize the scent by some of ingredients, but to smell all the notes at the same time.
The fragrance will be available as EDP in 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 75ml ( 2.6 fl.oz.) sizes, with matching scented 200ml (6.9 fl.oz.) body cream.
The bottle for this fragrant jewel was designed by David Lipman, creative director of Yurman's house. The idea was to capture the fragrant liquid into a gemstone shaped bottle. The bottle consists of plastic-lined inner piece enclosed in Italian crystal shell, with sculpted gold cap reminiscent of Yurman Cable Collection of jewelry. The bottle neck is created in a form of Yurman's wedding band.
The nose behind this fragrance is Harry Fremont.
This is a beautiful exotic fragrance. It smells dignified. This is something a world traveler would wear. Independant and interesting. I love this!
THIS IS BOND NO 9 NEW YORK OUD VERBATIM!!!!!!
Honestly, i cannot tell the difference. I was wondering if i thought NYO was too feminine and now i know it is. With that being said, this is a delicious fragrance for a woman. Love..
I like this fragrance very much. It's is soft, feminine sophisticated romantic and sparkly. It is a balance between fruity notes and floral notes with excellent quality. The musk and the patchouli and the rose make this a sensual perfume. It's simply stunning and it's quite different from the others in the market. This is more for the grown woman scent not the teenage type. It takes sophistication, maturity and self confidence to pull this off. It's a complex scent with great sillage and longevity. My friend wears this and when she walks or gets near you can always get whiffs of this lovely fragrance. This is a good fragrance for everyday and for going out. Since it's quite expensive you might want to wear it to go out to dinner or on a date! Sillage is magnificent too and the body lotion is just as good as the perfume itself!
I love this stuff. It's got a classy, sexy ring about it. Buying it for my gf when I get one -__-
Nice. David Yurman is a fruity creamy (musky) fragrance with a woody rosy heart. To me it smells like a fruity version of Narciso Rodriguez / Guerlain Idylle or, moreover, a mix of NR and creamy Dior J'Adore. The scent is soft and tender, nevertheless has something "insolent" inside. Awesome bottle!
I read all the negative reviews of this perfume several months ago and avoided trying Yurman's offering based on them. I was at Nordstrom today with a big bottle staring me in the face, and I couldn't resist all that gold.
I must say, what are all the naysayers talking about? This is a gorgeous fragrance! It opens smelling like a fruity white wine, like muscat maybe. And thank God Yurman knows how to blend flowers together. I am tired of white flower fragrances or perfumes that are predominantly rose. So un-creative, and they've been done a million times.
This is a nice blend of soft blossoms, woods, and musk. There is no spice in it at all, look at the notes. I definitely could see a wealthy woman wearing this perfume. It's a modern classic. I want a bottle.
It reminded me on Yvresse/Champagne by YSL at the 1st sniff!
David Yurman is a classy scent in various ways, however, unfortunately this fragrance doesn't blend too well with my chemistry.
From the sample, prior to application, David Yurman reminds me of Guerlain's Jicky. It was promisingly spicy and rich. The first spray was quite bold with black currant and spicy, earthy patchouli. I was nodding in agreement for at least the first few minutes.
Unfortunately the patchouli doesn't stick around for long, as the scent transcends into a sourish orange and soap blend. It's not unpleasant but it puts me off because it reminds me of those soap dispensers in public bathrooms.
Although a supposed chypre, David Yurman isn't particularly animalic or mossy. Occasionally I sniff my wrist and smile, but a majority of the time I find this fragrance too strong and dizzying.
The price is a little bit ridiculous, especially seeing that this fragrance isn't as majestic as it appears to be. It does last for the price and the sillage is a monster, however I see that as being its downfall rather than a plus.
It's nice for those that like a strong soapy smell that is more dirty than clean, however for me, David Yurman hasn't managed to win me over.
I got a sample of this and am wearing it right now. I like it! It's crisp, clean, comforting and classic smelling to me. I probably wouldn't buy it though.
The bottle seemed somewhat overbearing to me, and then, so did the actual fragrance. The first top notes seemed like they might hold the promise of a chypre-floral scent, but then it turned into a brash, loud and obnoxious hanger-on, that had to be washed off.
Simply too heavy, unoriginal, ostentatious and old-fashioned (not in a good way) for my taste. Utterly lacking in creativity from an artist that inspired an entire unique genre of expensive jewelry.
The bottle is much prettier than the actual fragrance it holds!
Would put this in the same category with the new Gucci by Gucci fragrance, which also did not end up in my "like" list.
If Yurman's clientele consists mostly of "monied, status-conscious, ostentatious, American women in their fifties", then it's only logical that they try to please these folks - just like every company on the planet. What's wrong with that? The people at Chloe can tell us a thing or two about the consequences of alienating faithful customers, and it ain't pretty. I'm not part of the demographics listed above, but I find this scent very beautiful
How does “David Yurman” smell? Like CHAMPAGNE. But the nicest, happiest champagne ever. (I swear I can smell the yeast for the first few minutes before it blows off.) DY smells like a bottle of bubbly at the swankest, heppest night club in the world: there’s a green apple note that makes it lively, and I’ll bet the farm there’s acetate in it to make it sparkle.
For a few minutes, it’s the smell of stars, but then it settles into a rose heart construction, flanked on one side by green apple, the other by happy hay. The lightest wood imaginable—bamboo maybe?--holds it up.
After 15 minutes or so, it changes again: the water lily component steps up and becomes the dominant theme. And finally, there’s an aquatic element which is what made me say “wow” to DY in the first place: while so many “rich-lady” scents have musks to ground them in the roof of your sinuses and the back of your throat, and powders that expand out to take up more and more space, in DY, that aquatic element has the strangest effect: it hits a wall. DY demonstrates a certain RESTRAINT: as in: I will smell so far and then smell no further. It is contained—a boundried scent shape that is a quality I deeply admire.
For the first 20 seconds it smelled great: a promising, traditional rosy floral, a bit on the sweet side. But it quickly settles into a blend that manages to combine my least favorite polar opposite perfume characteristics: powdery yet sharp; boring yet loud; nondescript yet pushy; bland yet heavy. Like that guest at your dinner party who sucks all the energy out of room without saying a word. And it's expensive, too.
I tried this one soon after it came out. I thought the bottle was nice and had admired some Yurman jewelry on a friend so I had pretty high (apparently too high) expectations.
I was anticipating something kind of modern and elegant, but on me this scent was just overwhelmingly strong. It was also very one-dimensional--no particular notes stood out and it was pretty much the same from beginning to end, which I found uninteresting.
If you want a scent with exceptional staying power you might check this one out. Unfortunately, that's really the only positive thing I can say about it.
I'm not a fan of this either, this really didn't do anything for me. It reminded me a lot of annick goutal scents which I find very boring. Sorry but this is not for me. Too plain
I sampled this scent this at Saks and by the end of the day came to the conclusion that his jewelry designing surpasses his fragrance creating. I had envisioned this fragrance to smell unique like his jewelry but it was quite the opposite: ordinary. His attempt to compose a non-pyramidal fragrance was unsuccessful to my senses as I recognized each individual note used, i.e.rose, peony, and lotus and the patchouli at the base.. Although I personally was not highly impressed with this mediocre chypre floral, I must admit I was stopped by quite a few people with compliments about this scent (specifically men so maybe it's a man magnet!). Overall the fragrance is good but not great. The bottle I might add, is a winner in design effort, but I will pass on the scent and continue to admire his primary forte, his beautiful cable jewelry.
I'm afraid I'm not a fan. I like sweet perfumes, but this one has a very intimate sweetness, sort of like someone breathing on you. I blame the currant. I'm a fan of florals, but the flowers here don't blend into something cohesive, or to my nose stand out on their own. I find sometimes patchouli can be a bit sharp, and here it isn't at all, in fact, I found it almost non-existent. It does however come in a very pretty bottle.
This scent is so playful, smart and modern. It captures you with peony, which for me is a note that makes me deeply inhale a scent. Then out of no where it brings in patchouli and musk, which would normally be at the bottom. This is where it gets playful, b/c bright notes of mandarin and greens cut into this scent making it spin in so many directions wondering "what is that"! Very well done and memorable. Making me appreciate all the over primped gorgeous women I used to admire in the 80's as a child.
Love the smell. But it does remind me a little of Juicy Couture perfume. But it is worth buying it once.
Yes, so, when I said the complete opposite, it was directed towards guest_J. Lilly when she had said it was overwhelming. I was simply stating I got the opposite to what she got, not the opposite to the description. Thank you.
I don't think you got the complete opposite. I think you got exactly the point. The description suggests that you are not intended to pick out one note. That's what the non-pyramidal part means.
I got the complete opposite - on me it is incredibly subtle that I can hardly make out any notes. Not the least bit overwhelming. It smells like a soft golden sparkle, a tiny bit powdery. It is not my choice of fragrance, but it is nice. Makes me think of expensive gold pieces.
I'm a huge Yurman fan and was anxious to try this. I gave it a spritz at NM a couple weeks ago and keep meaning to go back an pick up a bottle. Unlike cheaper scents, a small spray is all you'll want because a heavy trigger finger will cause this to be overwhelming. Initially I didn't think the scent nor the badly battered tester bottle justified the price. But once it settled down, the richness of this scent emerged. I received two compliments that evening. It is a sophisticated, unique scent.
