I love Dirt! I sometimes mix it with Michael by Michael Kors. It doesn't ground the fragrance (har har), but it roughs it up a bit--which I like on occasion. The only complaint I have about Demeter fragrances is that they last about 5 minutes.

Wow,the best dirt Scent ever. I dont know what people expect but it smells like what it says. A nice wearable scent of soil, or even wet soil.

A surprisingly clean smelling fragrance, given the name. Slightly earthy, with a hint of sweetness, Dirt is very wearable. However, longevity is only about an hour on my skin and sillage is low.

I love the smell of actual dirt (soil, not dirty person dirt), so this is pretty incredible to me. I don't know how Demeter managed it, but this smells simultaneously of wet garden soil, dry dusty midwestern country dirt road AND something you would want to wear (at least I would).
And it has a tiny bit of something familiar - baby powder and faint ... umm... plastic doll that has been ground into the dirt and left out in the rain overnight. Dammit, that's not QUITE it. I'll update when I figure out what it is that I'm smelling.
So simple and so beautiful.

ETA: Now I'm only getting a buttery warm plastic note. I can't smell dirt at all. :-(
Interesting and lovely for the first hour, then ... ech.

I am so enthralled by this fragrance! I have been looking every where for a perfume that captured the scent of the earth (but still very wearable) and I've finally found it! For me the scent is not in the least strong; it initially sprays on with a moderate but heady scent of rich soil. It very much in the beginning reminded me of stepping into a forest and smelling the forest floor wafting up in the most comforting way. It's very organic smelling, almost like it couldn't possibly contain anything man-made. As it dries down it starts to have a more green, even slightly floral scent. For me it almost seemed as if it transitioned from the forest to a field of tall grass. It does become more subtle as it dries, but if I smell where I sprayed it I can still detect it. This scent works beautifully with my chemistry; I can already say that it is a favorite and that I'll be keeping this continuously stocked.

I just got a new bottle of this to replace my old one. It doesn't smell the same. It isn't as dirt-like. It is a much much lighter smell than the old version. Almost a floral dirt.

Just not the same, though maybe if you have never smelled the older version, the new incarnation will be everything you want it to be.

I'm amazed by the fact that this really smells like dirt. Not dirt as in gross dirt, but dirt as in warm soil, or a dusty road. This is a lovely scent to pair up with others! Kicking some craziness into cleaner scents. No wonder Clint Eastwood wears this!

I wonder what some people are expecting when they sample "Dirt", and they then go on to bag it. One would think the name is self-explanatory! I love this smell, as well as Earthworm and Thunderstorm. If you think you're going to get something floral, or ANYTHING other than dirt, don't even bother with this. It is what is says. And it's wonderful! For me it's a 10/10.

this is what patchouli always smells like to me. nasty dirt. or a wet dog that has rolled in dirt. i hate this perfume, and i hate patchouli, unless it is really disquised by other notes. but anyway, getting back to this one, its just gross. why anyone would want to smell like this nasty stuff is beyond me. i love demeter, but this and canabis flower have got to be 2 of the worst they put out. yuk.

I wonder if it's possible to be anosmic to this... or whether I alsready smell "dirt"y but I can barely smell this one, even though reviewers on basenotes have said it's quite strong.

I get a very fleeting cold clean scent like a cold slab of wet clay that lasts for about two minutes. There's something a little camphorous about it. It's very pretty, and not at all what I would consider dirty. Then it's gone.

I don't mind fleeting scents at all, I'm just afraid of dousing myself in something others have no trouble smelling, so I'm cautious about this one.

This is easily one of my favourites from Demeter. I was so hoping for wet, brown dirt and that's exactly what I got.

As a child I was fascinated by soil of all kinds. Out of red clay I'd make little figurines and place them in the sun to go hard and out of brown dirt I'd make mud cakes. It's possibly where my love for cooking began.

Dirt is damp, slightly musty, earthy and refreshing. I can see why Madonna wears this, it is charming in an odd kind of a way. Of course the name makes you crinkle your nose, but seriously experience it and your mind will change altogether.

I'm from the country, so perhaps I do feel a strong connection to the earth and its scent, but I do believe that anyone could learn to love this. It smells like fresh, juicy roots under the earth as well.

This fragrance is really enjoyable, I've been sniffing it all morning and its suiting this strange rainy weather we have today. A masterpiece in my opinion. It actually lasts on my skin a lot longer than expected too.

If you are upset by the idea of wearing a fragrance that smells like DIRT then you have missed the point of the Demeter Fragrance Library. They are single scents that capture a moment, a place, an element or something organic. Huge fun! "Laundromat" smells like fresh laundry bouncing around in a dryer, "Creme Brulee" smells like that famous french desert and "Sex On The Beach" smells like.... ok so if you haven't experienced it then the scent may be hard to gauge. So Dirt smells like Dirt, not dirty or off but like soil.
As their name suggests - 'Fragrance Library' should be collected, add them to your library of fragrances. You might keep a Gideon next to the bed but your library should be full of wonderful varied experiences to expand your mind.
I recommend you mix Demeter, make your own combos. They are the closest most will get to being able to create their own scent.

+Sex on the Beach x 2 squirts
+Dirt x 1 squirt

If I wanted to smell dirt, I just need to go to the local store where every farmer in town shops! Good Grief, I would not spend a nickel on something named "Dirt". Is there marketing department on drugs or something?

dirt smells exactly like the soil where i grew up in california when i would dig a foot down where it's moist and full of life, and plant something. i never thought i would find that smell so compelling, but it isn't just 'earthy' it's exotic - without resorting to patchouli (which i can't stand) or sweeter woods.

When Fragrance Library finally reached the stores in our country it attract the attention of all the customers just immediately. The very first bottle that I took for a sniff certainly was “Dirt”, as this is the most intriguing title of all others.

As I just sprayed it I immediately recognized the distinct smell of peat. And it was so much fun! Really made me smile. I could never mistake the smell of peat with any other, as I know it from the very childhood. We had a country house near Karelia, where all the forests grow on this kind of soil and there are lots of swamps – the peatery, in one word. Those, who have the country houses in these forests, should be super-care with fire, as the peat is very much inflammable. It may burn underneath the upper level of the soil, so people may see only the smoke, and if they step on this soil they will fall underground in the burned-out hollows, where the peat was before. So, that is a very dangerous thing.

And that’s how it smells. A true fresh, wet and rich peat!
This is very nice, interesting and unusual fragrance, though I can’t imagine how to wear it, and especially how to use the body care products of this series :) But yet again – it may “sound” very nice on a man’s skin.

Actually, this is rather nice! I sniffed it recently and had no intention of posting a review BUT: I just can't let a negative review stand on the basis of the name alone!

The name is perfectly descriptive; it's really the smell of soil/earth. This is DIRT, not fertilizer... there's nothing nasty or objectionable about it at all!

Demeter's Dirt is the clean, refreshing fragrance of the damp ground in the late days of winter or early spring just after the frozen ground has thawed a bit. The ozonic fragrance of snow is still a bit evident in the air but something is different... the air no longer smells neutral somehow... there's a new fullness to the air that hints at the soon-to-emerge first peeks of green shoots, and perhaps some glimpses of color after weeks and months of snow and leafless branches.

Demeter's Dirt smells of life and the promise of emerging growth. Surprise yourself and go find some to sniff.
