Ahh the Rose, Queen of Flowers, symbol of Love throughout the ages and one of the most sensual scents on Earth. A classic and unmistakable aroma that graces (probably) more perfumes than any other flower...and though I love the scent of a living rose, I am not a big fan of these and as far as flowers go, I'd rather receive lilacs or hyacinths...or even an orchid; but this is, by far, my favorite of The Ones. Imagine my surprise...
This little sweetie begins with lush citrus notes like mandarin and pink grapefruit combined with watery sweet black currants and lychees creating something dark, juicy, fresh and sweet; but not overly syrupy or sugary. This maintains a lite translucent feel while carrying the fruits well. This has the lily and muguet but brings the newcomer Rose to the fore, and it is gentle and soft like a rose in full bloom on the vine, stunning! Instead of the sweet, indolic jasmine, there are peonies, with their dry spiciness to accent the rose and complement the lily's creaminess and muguet's green clarity. This is quite an amazing floral medley, oozing with gentle strength, calling to me in what I can only describe a sexy, throaty whisper. The drydown differs from either of its predecessors in that it has ambrette seeds and their musky wood-like scent, with vague floral nuances, combines with light musk and sandal's sharp scent to calm and quiet the usually strong vanilla note and make it less gourmand and rich and adds a silky, almost powdery softness not found in the other Ones...yet it does belongs with the others:like a younger half-sister, similar but totally her own, with qualities not found in the other two but similar enough to them to notice they are related...fair and beautiful, she has me in her spell...
Sillage: okay
Longevity: decent
Overall: 4.25/5
No one was more surprised than me that I liked this much better than the other Ones, and I guess that I like roses more than I thought, and this reminds us...they're not just for old lady perfumes anymore!!
