a blind swap that i love !
It's okay....not crazy about it... It's for everyday...
Ellen Tracy is marvelous and one of my faves! It's such a rich, feminine and inviting fragrance. The wood, fruit & floral notes dance together in seductive harmony. Well blended and impressive. A sparkling scent perfect for making a beautiful impression. It is strong, but it's not overwhelming. It's down right delish!
I acquired this perfume many years ago, sort of by accident and applied it on a special occasion because I was in a pinch. I didn't own any other perfume and I really wanted to feel and look sophisticated that day. I didn't expect to fall in love with it.
Ellen Tracy is a sophisticated, rich, complex fragrance. It has a masculine vibe, which I love. I can't really distinguish the fruit or floral notes but it definitely screams spicy, woody oriental. The powder note that some people detect comes from the amber and orris root but is not "old lady" powdery. The cinnamon note gives this perfume such a unique twist.
This is the kind of perfume you could wear to the office or on a date. It's sexy in a mysterious way but sophisticated and mature at the same time. When I wear it I feel sexy, refined, and confident. This is probably the closest I've ever come to having a signature fragrance.
This starts out as cedar and sandalwood, within an hour, its full blown white soap smell. Its very clean soap smell that lasts well on the skin 6-8 hours.
I see this one more as a warm, woody, mossy fragrance with a hint of (warm) fruit for starters, which is most likely the plum jumping me, which I adore.
It very much reminded me of Feminite du Bois by Shiseido, only a million times more affordable. ;)
Very sophisticated, sensual and comforting. I get zero powder at all, unlike many reviews before me. Just warmth and yummyness. Definitely a candidate for a androgynous scent, as well.
This is probably the closest thing I have to a "signature scent" because it smells nice on me, it's inexpensive but doesn't smell like it, and I find it doesn't offend noses. If I'm looking for something a bit more headstrong I use Avon's Timeless (see my review there) as that is one of my absolute favorites. I really, really enjoy this perfume. I get compliments when I wear it so it's not like it totally blends in with the woodwork. It's just a nice, clean fragrance suitable for any occasion.
I like my first impression of this perfume.it smells nice and fresh.but after just 5 minutes something artificial appears that makes me sick.it can be osmanthus as most of perfumes with strong osmanthus note make me sick(namely Flora by Gucci).
in fact I don't feel anything woody here, but an oriental floral perfume for a mature lady.
the long lasting power and sillage are ok,or even better than ok.
I wouldn't wear this one,but it would be great for a middle age classy lady.
Just bought this, and I think I've found my new daytime "office" fragrance. Clean and sophisticated, close to the skin, with a fun five minutes of "pencil shavings" that brought me back to the 4th grade! After about an hour we're down to a soft woody amber. Nice change from the white flowers I'm usually drawn to. I feel like a professional grownup in this one. Bet it would smell good on a man, too.
this is flowery and fresh. on dry down the floral combines with a rich earthiness of the oakmoss and musk which i absolutely love. really a gorgeous day scent that can also take you into evening nicely. i like it very much. 8.5 out of 10.
EDP: To my nose, this is a light-version of Dolce Vita. Classy, a little complex, and perfect for daytime,.. very nice.
I am in love with this! I got a sample of the EDT yesterday and applied it to my wrists straight away and could smell it for the rest of the day (5 hours approx).
I'm looking online for a full size bottle, I can only see EDP but I'm hoping they are the same.
The floral notes in this are good and strong, I'm not a huge fan of orientals, I seem to get a headache with many of them but ET has enough light soft florals to make this a delicious smooth combination.
I will be buying a bottle very soon, and at £12 for 50ml I won't be complaining about the cost either, it smells far more expensive.
It's such a CLASSIC scent! Soft, slightly powdery, slightly sweet and mossy. Perfect everyday scent. It reminds me of the way my mom always smelled growing up. Maybe she wore something similar. It's so beauiful just like my mother <3
I picked up a bottle of the peony and rose and thought, eh...safe enough, good price, I'll take it! The bottle was pretty also. I noticed mine that I bought was a plain bottle but I sprayed some on my wrist and shopped some more. I kept smelling something wonderful, and thinking it was the perfume department I'd just passed, I shrugged it off. The scent was still around and I was trying to sniff where it was coming from and it was ME! It was MUCH better than what I'd smelled in the store. I even thought it might have been another perfume I tried earlier and not the Ellen Tracy one. I got home and checked on here because this was WAY too lovely! The one I got wasn't the peony and rose I tried in the store, it's the plain Ellen Tracy and I'm so happy! This was a pure accident and to me this perfume has that certain something that puts it above too many other perfumes. It's safe, yes, and good for work and not offensive to anyone and I agree with all the other reviewers here that like it except for ONE thing, this has that certain SOMETHING that takes it over the top for me. It's so incredibly desireable to me. It's a fave for sure! Clean and so preppy. I bet Elizabeth Taylor smelled like this in Father of the Bride. :-)
I have often pondered the possibility of buying a bottle of ELLEN TRACY scent unsniffed, on the strength of the beautiful bottle alone. It costs nearly nothing, so the temptation to take the gamble is almost irresistible. I happened upon a sample, however, and so now it is is possible for me to make an informed decision.
ELLEN TRACY is a safe fragrance. It was obviously intended to be that way: low-key florals, clean musk, light woodsiness, a few non-rotten fruits. This is a nice, wearable and even giftable perfume, which is not something I'd often recommend, since people differ so much in their tastes in perfume. ELLEN TRACY is so innocuous that I cannot imagine anyone not finding it to be a perfectly fine everyday, all occasion fragrance.
That said, the price paid for inoffensivity is, as always, lack of excitement. The notes are very unclear and indistinct. Could be just about any flowers, any fruits, and any woods. As a result, this is not a composition that will carve a place in my olfactory memory bank. It's just too ... vague. But now I do know that I can buy the beautiful bottle knowing that it is at least possible to wear the contents harbored within, which is more than some designer fragrances can claim.
Take Britney Spears "Curious" and spray it inside a medium-sized aged cedar box. Dip your finger into some baby powder and swipe the bottom of the box. Let it sit closed for a few days, then open it wide. This is Ellen Tracy. I thought I was nuts with the Britney Spears comparison, but I put the two on opposite wrists, and though they aren't twins, they seem to be in the same family. But Ellen Tracy is deeper and richer. The more I wear it, the more I like it. I don't really get "fruit" out of it, but there is a little sweetness. It turns a little sour toward the end of the run, but that's how I perceive raspberry.
A bit classic perfume. To me, it smell like 90's perfume. I got a sample from an internet purchase, and despite it's a classic scent, I kinda love it. However, I find it similar to Avon Imari Velvet. Not so good... but wearable...
I snagged a bottle of this at TJ Maxx today for ten bucks, and was quite happy since I just ordered it off of the internet for 30 dollars last week. (I will return that one!) I spritzed a bit on my wrist in the car, and went to pick up my daughter at college. She is 18 and has quite a nose for perfume. Immediately she noticed the scent and said I smelled really good! I think this is a "safe" perfume. You are not going to probably turn heads or have men panting over you wearing Ellen Tracy. But of course, those are not the only reasons that we wear fragrance! This would be a beautiful choice to wear to an office setting, or church. It is feminine, quiet, and very pretty. I do not get a separate note dry down which indicates to me it is blended very well! All and all, I will probably wear this as my new Spring/early summer perfume. I needed something different and new, and this could fit the bill!
This is one of my newest purchases. I love it but I wouldn't classify it as woody at all. I get lots of fruit and a clean fresh scent. Very sophisitcated though.
I whould not catalgorized this as an
orental woody it should be a floral fruity the opening notes are a hint of plum maybe a faint wisper of peach
and hiacynh i don't noticed the aldehydes i don't think my my opinion
there's any aldehydes at all.
the bottle is beautiful clean lines
nothing flashy a light golden color
this is'nt a flashy perfume it's for a gal who emjoys the simple things in life.
This is a lovely perfume, wow with so many different notes who knows what to expect, but its blended so well, you can smell basically all the different notes but for me this isa soft, slightly powdery floral with a soft woody undertone. Its almost 'clean' smelling really. Suitable for any ocassion and could never really be offensive. It smells mature but fresh at the same time, understated but just a little bit sexy with the hint of spicy woods. I was happy to use up my sample and while I wont go out of my way to buy it I would swap for a bottle or decant.
didnt like it much i think it was the ylang ylang(which i've realized i am not the fondest of)
This is a real real nice scent. Its very woodsy smelling to me and I especially love woodsy scents and a little floral mixed in.
Nice fragrance as it has a very Sweet, yet light and airy effect on my skin. This leans more on the side of a floral oriental, than woody oriental ,in my opinion.A bit on the shy side for my current taste, though I've worn this one off and on for 5 yrs .
Very nice...the plum stands out for me along with a little apricot at the top. It then goes very powdery soft with a full cedar background. I can't pick up any specific flowers in the heart but the blend smells white and light. I'm sure it has good sillage as I only put on a dab and can smell it from over a foot away.
This is in no way masculine...it's a soft pretty feminine scent.
Unfortunately, too much powder for me, I tire of it after an hour or so and it catches in the back of my throat.
I'll finish up my sample but won't be purchasing a bottle.
Wow! This is not your ordinary woody oriental! Fresh, fruity and slightly spicy at first, I get a little bit of a "bubblegum" effect for 15 minutes, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE. It uplifts me. Afterward, it proceeds to dry down to a warm, clean, slightly mossy, woodsy base. There is nothing heavy about this fragrance on me, and also nothing distinctly floral. Had I not found MaxMara first, this would have easily been my signature scent.
I bought this and Max Mara today both unsniffed and I like this one it is very sweet and I really like the bottle it looks better in person.I don't regret this purchase and it lasts long too.
On the clean side of the oriental woody genre, in my experience. I could imagine this perfume suiting a variety of women. It's feminine in a pretty sort of way, not too sweet...Raspberry in the base notes seems to keep it very girly, and it's something I rarely come across. When I wear this, I don't feel like I smell like flowers--which is both a good thing and a bad thing(a well-done natural floral fragrance is divine!) It's an acceptable woman's perfume, I couldn't imagine people holding their noses upon encountering a woman who wears this, but I wouldn't call it a sexy perfume...It doesn't strike me that way, but I have yet to hear male feedback on it....The first description of this scent as "almost preppy" seems fitting to me, and describes why I couldn't ever call a fragrance like this my signature scent...
Ellen Tracy is a wonderful charming classic fragrance!
The scent is feminine and graceful with beautiful fresh floral notes, slightly woody.
The base is mossy and warm.
One of those great timeless fragrances!
I find this perfume very powdery & floral. The powdery fades after a couple minutes & allows the orchid, jasmine, & Lily of the Vally take center stage.I think its the Ylang Ylang and tuberose that is dominant in the floral though.
I do smell the woody "cedar" as well as the oak moss, but in very light drips & drabs. Its as if a bouquet of flowers is growing on the edge of the woods and the flowers are covered with a mossy dew.
The mossy woodsy scent fully makes its appearance about 45 min an hour after the drydown and thank goodness because that floral took over a little too much on me.
It is a very pleasant scent & a little dab will do ya ;)
Oh How I Loved this Fragrance! It has such a sophisticated smell to it. Very alluring, but I must say that it broke me out relentlessly!!!
What a grand price to pay to smelling beautiful.
I had to give it away sadly! :-(
It's funny how different vay we see and smell perfumes. To me Ellen Tracy is deep, mossy and woody, not flowery or "clean" at all, more masculine than feminine. Round and smooth, and I personally like this more on a man than a woman.
When I sold perfume I would always sneak a spray of this one. It is what a woman should smell like. Fresh, flowery but sweet. Not overpowering but clean and almost preppy. It is a very balanced scent.
