Molecule 02 is a perfume from the second, new series of synthetic fragrances from Escentric Molecules company. Together with the new Escentric 02, it revolves around ambroxan, separated as the central note, a component of ambergris. Molecule 02 contains only ambroxan, which is a great fixation, and therefore stays with you all day, very pleasant, velvety, warm and delightfully sweet, non-obtrusive. Read more about ambroxan here. The perfume was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Geza Schoen.

The secret to using this perfume is to apply it on top of your favorite fragrance. This is the way it works the best!!!

This turned out icky on me.
Strong, dirty, earthy, wet - like patchouli mixed with vetiver and a box of clothes that spent the last few years in the attic. The first 3-4 hours were pretty bad, if I wasn't the type who's willing to suffer through everything at least once perfume-wise I would have gone to scrub it off. The rest of the 9 hours overall was bearable, not at all likable but not really nasty either.

My first thought was that my sample must have been mixed with the Molecule 3 that I ordered along with it. I discarded that idea only because it was a reputable samples site and all the other vials were okay.

I was expecting it to smell the same/similar to Juliette has a gun - Not a perfume. It didn't. That one didn't work out all that great for me either, a little medical but still somewhat ambery. Can't say that about Molecule 2!

I don’t know how I ended up with a sample of this since, being a perfume-maker, I have plenty of ambroxan of my own, both in crystal form and diluted. However, in the interest of reviewing a vial of someone else’s ambroxan (which, by the way smells exactly like mine), I’ll provide a short description.

Ambroxan is an aroma chemical that can easily stand on its own as a perfume, having a complex woody, salty, musky, ambergris-like character, although it’s much stronger than real ambergris tincture. It’s a base note that lasts for over 24 hours on skin and much longer on clothing. It blends beautifully with many other materials. It has mega-sillage. I love it, but I’m not about to pay big bucks for something I can mix up on my own for a fraction of the cost.

Pure ambroxan is certainly a better perfume than many of the blended perfumes that are out there, but I do have to observe that when a perfume house goes so minimal that they are simply selling diluted aroma chemicals individually, they run the risk of shattering all of the mystique that surrounds perfumery and discounting the skill and talent that it takes to blend materials well.

I suppose you could think of the currently popular ambroxan solution offered by several houses as being like a plate of crudités in an expensive restaurant. The attraction and high price of carrot sticks served in a fancy restaurant is justified by the pretentious atmosphere, decorative plate, and careful arrangement. Ambroxan in a fancy bottle and box promoted by expensive advertising must be worth much more than the same ambroxan in a plain, hand-labeled bottle, and it probably even smells better to the person who bought it. On second thought, maybe the mystique is still alive and well.

I know most people aren’t going to go out and make their own ambroxan dilution, so if you’re curious, go ahead and try it. You’ll probably like it.

I'm not sure, but I think this fragrance was compared to Juilette Has A Gun Not A Perfume. I have both and to me they are the same only in one aspect. They are both a whisper, a faint breeze that gently passes through your hair and disappears as quickly and quietly.
To me, JHAGNAF is a softer scent and is different, a little more softer. This one EM 02 is a scent that your more aware that your wearing it, but really nice. It seems to me to be more for a man, but it's also very warm and skin scented. It does remind me of being in held the arms of a man, that makes you feel secure and warm all over. So the security and warmth bring good thoughts, maybe even romantic!
Either way, it's a wisp of a fragrance, dream like, wearable and will evoke some kind of feeling,or memory that you'll want to cling to until the dark hours of the night.

When wearing this fragrance, I noticed I had more people approaching me and wanting to be in my "personal space." A co-worker came up to me to ask a question and within seconds stated, "You smell expensive..." I take that as a compliment since I tend to consider myself pretty fragrance savvy :-)
Very nice fragrance that wears well on the skin - not too heavy but is definitely attention-getting and well worth the full bottle purchase IMO. I've worn this fragrance 3 days straight, and each opening has been different from the other. It has a bit of a chemically enhanced "woody" twist to it (hence the name) but isn't too masculine for 'moi' to wear.

UPDATE: Just an FYI on this fragrances' sillage. I went to work out wearing a sweater with this fragrance on it two days ago, and I can still smell it on the sleeve. For people who enjoy making heads turn in awe at how great you smell, this is the perfect fragrance.

I bought a sample vial of Molecule 02 from luckyscent.com, together with Molecule 01. 01 was ok, no "fireworks" though. No comment from my hubby either, and he's not the perfumey kind of guy, prefers just clean skin scent :)

02 smelled godawful on me, no idea why... I just showered with unscented soap I might add, no lotion, just the spray of 02 on my neck and... zomg! I had to wash it off immediately, it stank THAT bad. I'm at a loss why but sure glad I didn't invest in a full size bottle of this stuff.

NB: I now have two trial size spray vials to GIVE AWAY - one of Molecule01 and one of Molecule02 (minus one tiny spray from each vial when I tried them). I cannot use them.
If you want them, private-message me and I can send them to you n/c.

Eventually I`ve found a place where I can test these strange fragrances. I can` really understand the difference between Escentric and Molecules, I know I`ve tried Molecules 2. Nice, veeeery nice! It`s a different kind of smell, like something never smelt before yet it`s comforting. It has a sensual edge but it stays like a fresh smell for the whole time on skin. It smells a little salty.
I have no idea if it gets reaction from others. Nobody commented. Only my yoga teacher was a little less friendly than usual.
Instead I noticed a strange behaviour on myself! I put the fragrance on my right wrist and while driving I noticed that most drivers tried to hit me on the right side! I got more aggressive behaviour from other drivers on that side and this is quite serious when driving on the right side of the road! Of course, they couldn`t smell my scent :-) I still wonder if wearing this scent changed MY perception and behaviour causing reactions from outside.

tested it today
its true that it lasts for a long time, and it has strong chemical aroma.
however I expected more from it. For me its too ordinary for its price.
