Beyond Paradise is a tropical fantasy in a nice colorful bottle.
"The scent transports you to a perfect world of optimism and wonder. Unfolds on your skin with a fascinating blend of tropical wetness, zesty freshness and bursting floralcy".
The composition includes a lot of exotic flowers (this is so typical for Estee Lauder, who loved flowers), rare fruits and woods. EL discovered and used exotic flowers which were unknown to perfumery through a partnership with the Eden project, the largest botanical conservatory in Europe (Scotland).
The fragrance opens with Eden mist which gives a long lasting tropical wet effect, rare flowers (orange blossom and blue hyacinth) and fruits (Jaboticaba berry). The floral heart is a burst of exotic flowers: laelia orchid, pink honeysuckle, Japanese mahonia. The base is no less exotic, consists of Natal plum blossom, golden melaleuca, zebrano wood, ambrette seed.
The perfume was created by Calice Becker 2003.

Well well...You see, the trouble with this one is, it is supposed to conjure up a far away tropical island, and to me, it smells like a celtic fairy tale.I feel like I am taking a walk through the brittany countryside when the honeysuckle is in full bloom. My nose doesn't pick up much else...
It definitely smells nice,it is an incredibly romantic yet somewhat exhuberant floral fragrance.
Unfortunately, after a while, I sarted to find it cloying and could even get a synthetic note I can't put a name on...vaguely reminiscent of washing powder...
I used this for a few months about two years ago and I noticed that I got compliments mainly from teenage girls / very young women.
The bottle is one of the most beautiful ones I have seen so far:love the shape and the colours. I like a perfume bottle to look like a lot of creativity was put in the design, yet it doesn't end up looking silly or pretentious.
I've got to say, this "masterpiece" didn't wow me...I expected to be enveloped by an exhuberant, moist tropical floral cloud but it never happens.
Yes, it opens with citrus but it's very bland and shallow...like diluted lemonade. There are florals with a slight vegetal feel but after an hour or so, it peters out to a salty musk and that's it.
Maybe it's the current reform that's lacking but I would place it in the "ho-hum" section of my perfume drawer.
I don't hate it, but I don't really like or love it either. It's just "meh". (really need that category added, Fragrantica peeps!)
Not a stunner by any means and not bbw.
I'm thinking this is a love/hate sort of scent, but I personally quite like it, probably more for sentimental value than the scent itself. I brought home a little 6ml sample-sized bottle as a present for my mother one year and wasn't the biggest fan, but my mother absolutely fell in love with it. She used it quite sparingly, usually on special occasions, but the little bottle still ran out within 6 months. Seeing how much she loved it, what could I do but buy her two new bottles for her birthday? It's a heavy, very floral scent, reminiscent of holidays a tropical paradise full of jasmines and gardenia and all sorts of wonderful things like that. Not my cup of tea, but suits my mother very well.
This has a really nice fragrance but for some unknown reason, i'm kinda sick of it. Also it doesn't stay very long, i find. 7/10
I was drawn to this perfume by its bottle, like a big teardrop-shaped smooth paperweight in swirly iridescent, moire-silk Mediterranean greenish-blues.You have to be careful not to let it slip.
Everything led me to expect an aquatic. But I get syrupy grapefruit and humid honeysuckle and - I kid you not- a sort of sweet paraffin smell! The notes are spiky but somehow it manages to have a Lauder quality to it, and I actually didn't dislike it. I'd go back to it, now and again, when I was tired of more mainstream offerings.
For me it's a Womanity, i.e. it deliberately cultivates serious weirdness as it's unique selling point, and it sets limits upon itself by not going out to be popular. But that means there will be clients for it, who like to be Alternative, I will bet.
I never wear florals, but I have to say that Beyond Paradise is a really nice white floral. The opening smells like fruit, almost like a fresh banana, very tropical. The heart is a heady dose of gardenia and honeysuckle. Luckily this perfume is not overly heavy. It manages to remain somewhat fresh and true to the feeling of walking through a humid tropical garden pavilion with butterflies swirling around. You might even look up and see a parrot or look down and see a creepy little lizard staring at you from behind a mossy rock.
Pack your imaginary bags with the most expensive exotic designer bikini and floaty wrap you wish you had and let down your beautiful, glossy, luxuriant hair. Spread some sun cream over your perfectly toned and tanned, blemish-free figure (...this is a fantasy, ok? :)..and get ready for a day trip to paradise!

Exotic brightly coloured birds dance their displays in the rich green trees, amazingly beautiful orchids drip with with sparkling dew, a crystal clear, warm blue lagoon invites you for a swim, brightly coloured butterflies flit by in a sunny glade, exotic friuts hang from the trees tempting you to taste, anything you wish for can be there!
What an amazing perfume this is!
The name describes it perfectly, I cannot and do not want to pick out individual notes, it is perfect as a whole and is quite unique. If a fantasy tropical paradise has a smell, this is it!
On me it smells horrific. Like a mix of my two most hated - Fragile + Lou Lou. I agree with the hotel swimming pool mentioned below, or chlorine cleanser in cold rest room, with heavy indolic jasmin and plastic tuberose. The only thing that i could think of being paradisean here is some dangerous toxic flower, with fat flies buzzing around. Intimidating. Well, to know your enemies is priceless :)
PS> i really like Luca Turin's reviews, they are very funny with luxuriant language, but sometimes it's hard to believe we are testing the same frag. I don't believe he would like this on my skin :D
When this came out i was 13 and i remember i wanted it, but only because the bottle was so pretty and rainbow colored! :)
However now that I'm 22 and grown up (sort of anyway)
I can find other ways to appreciate this perfume. This smells purely floral to me, but unlike some of those horrible headache inducing synthetic floral smells (i wont name names *cough*BS Radiance*) Beyond paradise is to my mind what a pure floral should smell like- femme, pretty fresh flowers- like living growing blooms covered in dew after a soft rain. Their are also some very lovely light aquatic scents in this one- smelling this one can actually imagine they are in a paradise of tropical flowers and with maybe a waterfall.
I think perhaps it is because winter has seemed to have forgotten to visit the California valley, but its starting to feel springish around here so I am really craving spring time scents- this would also probably be nice during a hot summer
Absolutely agree with very last long. All I can smell on me is jasmine and I love it. It will be sweeter if you wearing in the night. Love this scent.
I wanted to like this. Beautiful bottle, smells great on my aunt. But on myself... Nauseating, headache-inducing, wilted tropical flowers that NEVER leave. So if you love it, this stuff lasts and lasts.... And lasts :/
Paradise would actually smell like this. When I am wearing it I feel as if I am in a tropic paradise, birds chirping and I hear the sounds of different kinds of animals coming from the forest behind me and I hear the waves of the ocean and I just want to be there forever.
This wasn't a scent for me. It is a fresh scent, but it reminded me of baby wipes. I didn't apply it to my skin so it could have been better. I thought it had too much of an alcohol smell also. I would really have to check back with this fragrance because it does seem to be something that may grow on me later.
Beyond Paradise by Estee Lauder, created by Clice Becker, looks and smells simply beautiful, with royal elegance.
I completely understand why Luca Turin is so enamoured of this fragrance. I fully expected it to be just another Lauder sales push ... boy was I wrong!!! I'm sitting in a bower of lush gardenias as I sniff this emanating in waves of utter waxy white floral beauty from my left wrist! There is the green of dense tropical jungle and there is the intermittent jab of the ocean heard through a shell pressed to my ear! There are the orchids clinging clinging symbiotically to their woody trunks and then ... utterly gorgeous waterplants floating on a still lagoon at sunset. MAGIC!!!!!!!!
The first time I smelled this perfume was at Sears, a girl was spraying it on people for testing and I let her spray on my wrist and oh my god! I suddenly felt I was in a garden full of flowers! It smells really nice. I used it for several months.
Has been a favourite in the past for evening or special day wear. Very sweet and floral but captivating and very long lasting, so you do get what you pay for & don't have to reapply.
If I do have a reservation, perhaps a little too sweet and artificial, so a little overpowering for every day.
If you like strong florals you will love Beyond Paradise! If you are reading the word Paradise as Tropical as in coconut then move right along as there is nothing to see here!!!!
I do like this and usually I HATE florals......!! I'm looking forward 8 months to a warm and slightly breezy evening when I will be able to wear this with ease and in the right surroundings!
This has a very crisp smell when initially sprayed and is quite overpowering! I thought it was opening with my dreaded flower the Jasmine as it is pretty strong - but I was wrong and it is a mega blast of hyacinth and I am a great fan of this flower however, od'ing on it though can cause headaches!
For me the opening doesn't die down even though I cannot smell the hyacinth on my skin any longer it is still swirling around my nostrils - odd that! I am getting the gardinia, orchid and scant honeysuckle! I've not got to the drydown yet, the middle stage is very long!!! Very long!!!! I'm happy that the Jasmine has been crafted very well and isn't projecting from my skin and drowning all else out as it usually does!
So I would say in essence a strong floral which is very long lasting! I think certainly suits the evening more than the daytime and easy on the application as well......!!! Try before you buy if you haven't smelt this before!
its a long lasting parfum and every day i like more and more frech crispy beauthiful smell worth the money!!10/10
About two years ago I got the EDT of this perfume for free from my aunt who didn't want it. What a shame! I had been oogling the rainbow bottle (I love rainbows!) for years without really knowing what the perfume smelled like. I was very excited and thought because of the bright colors that this perfume would be a very fruity and fun composition.
Nope! White floral, hard core. What a let down. I have liked some white florals in the past, but for whatever reason this combo of flowers was very unpleasant to me. It made me feel like I was being held hostage in a floral torture chamber. :(
i love estee lauders products and i really like beyond paradis först i feel the orchid and gardenia then come out the hyacinth and aber with woody undertone very nice beauthiful smell !!long lasting
I love this. Although not a lot of people could pull it off. It smells like a rotting bouquet of flowers on my mom and it smells like dead fruits on my sister. However, it's very compatible with my body chemistry. It's almost as if it transforms into something much lighter and more fragrant. I'm so thankful it lasts for so long and smells so good on my skin. :)
I just love BP. The more I wear it the more I love it. I have few favorite perfumes that I use and BP is one of them. I can get easily bored by wearing causal frags (not that I would not like them but eventually I always get bored with them). BP I can never get bored with. It simply is not possible. It always changes, it keeps on swirling around and brings to my nose new notes over and over again. I have no idea how is it technically possible to achieve such an effect (because there is not many perfumes that can do that) but BP has that quality and I will always have a bottle of this on my shelf.
Strikingly synthetic. It actually makes me faintly nauseous and headachey. No need for a lengthy reprise of other reviewers' observations---and Sherapop voiced many of the thoughts I had when testing this one---simply another person who found this to be an artificial mess. There are much better tropic flower scents around.
I've had this on my wish-list for a while, and i finally had the opportunity to test it.
It was a pleasant, innocuous, quite light floral, with faint hints of green and citrus. It didn't last long, no particular notes stood out, and there was nothing exotic, distinctive, or remarkable about it. It was disappointing.
But i've had so many perfumes smell different on different days - i hate it one day, and love it enough to buy it another - so i will give it another try some time. Still, i'm leaning to jtd's assessment of it.
Beyond Paradise is as alien as Mugler’s Angel, if not more. But EL hides its freak in a way that Mugler wouldn’t consider. The chief accord in Angel is synthetic in that it resembles food, but is poisonous. BP gives you a fetching nosegay, but one made of shards of glass, sugar-coated with laundry powder. Angel was an utterly novel concept when it was released, with an accord that leaned on the jarring side of juxtaposition and therefore read as synthetic. BP is so like so many things you’ve smelled before, most of them scented, functional commercial products. But it's teased together into what some would call an idealized flower. I’d call it a floral least common denominator. Our noses learn over the years of sniffing cleaning products and the like to equate so-called “floral” with flowers. BP relies on this implied language of commercial scent, whispers a translation to us in press-release English and we believe that this scent is based on the Utopia Flower that grows Somewhere or other.
OK, that ‘s the jaded view of corporate perfumery. As to the actual creation of this scent, it is impeccably composed, and I can’t imagine the work that went into it. But again, least common denominator. BP is a bit like a predictable but popular Broadway show. It speaks in a theatrical language that we’re all guaranteed to understand and doesn’t advance the state of the art an inch. We talk of perfumery as art, and we should. BP is entertainment, but is it art?
The bottle is beautiful .. i thought it would smell like a fusion of fruits and lovely tropical flowers .. sadly it smells like an intense jasmine punch in your nose .. it literally gave me a headache when i sprayed it on ..what a waste of money !!
Too intensive too tropical maybe? It's bearable, sometimes, but be prepared that ppl will say that you stink too much perfume. Not special. doesn't have this "something" that makes the difference.
I too had to try this as Luca Turin is such a huge fan. But seriously, this is banana, bubblegum, and a bit of sweet white flower - not deep and stinky (in a good way)white flower. Disappointed. It smells like the gum my children chew - loud, synthetic fruit. Glad I just had a sample! I have a hard time finding this a "masterpiece," let alone appreciating it even though I dislike it. There's nothing particularly unique or special about BP. It's not a dignified scent, it's as embarrassing as it's silly bottle.
Disclaimer: This review is of an in-store tester.
Turin Loves this and he and I are typically on the same page, I am one of the few who agrees he's spot on with Tommy Girl and understands exactly what he means when he says Insolence "brilliant" in spite of my hating it. At the very least, his recommendations tend to have a certain je ne sais quoi to them worth shoving your face into.
I tested this fragrance in Ulta - a store which very intelligently displays it's fragrances before a massive set of west-facing windows. I expect the bottle was "off" I just don't know by how much. This Beyond Paradise smelled of aerosol room freshener and sinus headache. In two words, it was "boring" and "ow." I expected something more radiant - a kaleidoscopic Tom Ford Black Orchid, which smells strongly of tropical fruit to me. As it is, BP smells of Frangipani soap.
Great if you hate fragrance and Febreeze is you best friend.
This one almost makes the cut, but doesn't. As somebody said, all the exotic flowers and fruits should radiate as a beautiful rainbow, but instead they blend into each other to make one muddy rainbow... This is how I feel. The opening is that of an ordinary floral - but I like the drydown, which is wet and tropical. It actually reminds me of an inferior version of Marc Jacobs' signature scent.
I don't care how it smells on anyone else. On me it's a fresh tropical floral. The perfume stays that way throughout the day. It could just be that my skin chemistry is neutral and takes perfumes nicely, but I think Estee Lauder did well with this one.
I love exotic white florals above all else, so this is maybe my favorite so far. I don't mind that it doesn't change too much throughout the day. The bottle's colors match the scent perfectly, if that makes any sense! I can't really distinguish the different flowers in this perfume, but it makes me feel like I'm in a tropical garden or spa at a fancy hotel.
On an unrelated NOTE (haha), I notice something fresh and cool after a few hours that makes me think of cucumber. Not sure what's responsible but it's great!
The opening of Beyond Paradise is very odd. It hits the nose in a burst of alcohol and sweetness, rather like hairspray. Very quickly the alcohol burns off, leaving a lush floral arrangement, so tightly bound together as to resemble just one flower. I get jasmine, honeysuckle, whiffs of gardenia, and a pale tuberose. But there's something more going on here ... a moistness tinging the whole scent. It's as though I'm standing in a very cool greenhouse in late April, and they've just sent a blast of cold water across every petal and leaf in the place. All the sweetness is conjoined by a common smell of wet greenery, and the mixture of dew and cool morning air exudes a natural freshness. I'm not getting very much fruit, although I think there's a detached grapefruit and bergamot lingering in the background. This fragrances dries down by gradually becoming more delicate, as though the heavy coolness of the water has given way to the scent of flowers drying off in the sun, and releasing their sweetness unembellished. There are some blatantly synthetic elements here, but the fragrance also boasts natural and well-rounded notes. Anyone who doesn't get Beyond Paradise is over-thinking it. This is simply the smell of bliss.
My best friend wears this perfume every day. At first it smelled like jasmine, lots of jasmine. It's quite pretty but the dry down was horrid...it was like a harsh body odor...I don't know if it's actually my skin chemistry, but I did try this perfume and it smelled like Body Odor on me..And it's quite expensive too. I guess I should stay away from jasmine notes.
Beautiful fresh, floral fragrance but finds its smells almost identical to Pleasures intense. Laziness,a lapse in concentration of Estee Lauder perfumiers to have both fragrances simultaneously on the market!
I get mainly Jasmine and Tuberose in the opening, then an aquatic/water lily type note. The sweet Jasmine lingers but then something sulfurous, like a struck match develops on the dry-down. Alas.
I remember this perfume coming out and wanted to like it so badly. The flowers notes sounded luscious and exotic--just what I wanted in a summer fragrance. I bought it blind hoping I would like it enough to at least wear occasionally. It was -way- too strong--I could definitely smell the floral notes, but they were more bitter and soapy than sweet. Perhaps it's the jasmine, something about overt jasmine just does not agree with my nose for some reason. It might smell lovely on people whose chemistry works with jasmine well, but definitely didn't on me.
I just love this one.
It's so pretty and sopy and flowery, both perfect for winter and summer. I love the bottle too.
It's a big shame they stopped selling it in the Netherlands.
Ick. Just Ick. It actually makes me queasy. Rotten fruit and the inevitable white flowers. And besides, isn't that Kate Moss flogging this? Talk about no class!
What an extraordinary and beautiful fragrance.
I'm really surprised by this fragrance because the name and the beautiful bottle had made me believe that this would be a tropical beach scent with some fruitiness and maybe coconut.
Even though I can distinguish most of the floral notes (especially gardenia, hyacinth, jasmine and honeysuckle) represented in this fragrance, I have the impression that the scent comes from only one flower. It's not an artificial flower created by a parfumeur but a real fresh cut flower. It's undoubtedly a white flower, picked in a tropical garden just after the dew has fallen - because I totally agree with those reviewers who find this scent dewy. It may sound strange but I can detect incense too which gives this perfume a quite exotic twist.
A beautiful white floral though you have to be fond of hyacinth and honeysuckle to enjoy it.
In 3 words: WHITE - DEWY - EXOTIC
some of the reviews here are extremely funny and some make me wanna throw the bottle i have away; it made me realize that this one is included in the love or hate category; as orangepoppy mentioned, i had no intention to buy it too because of the trillion citrusy notes it contains in the top notes
however, it's really different on my skin, i don't get any of the oh-so-many citrusy notes written above, i spray it and i'm doused with Arabian Jasmine (yes, Arabian Jasmine in specific), i know that smell very well, i don't know what it is with my chemistry and this scent but all i get from one spritz is loads of AJ and woody notes for infinity, it's so heavy to a suffocating point, i never douse myself with that one; i'm really confused by the reviews, you guys/gals made me go check whether the bottle i have is that one we all are talking about or not :DD btw, the dry down is so strong too
i'm quite happy when a perfume works with my chemistry in mysterious ways that nobody seem to experience; i used to like this scent because -let's face it- although it's good on my skin and heavy but it's purely floral for me; but now i kinda love it? i'm quite impressed; i noticed in the description above a funny expression from what i get from this fume: "zesty freshness?" C'MON!!
This scent grossed me out. It depends on what you're into. If you like perfumes that smell like wet grass, something like what the GAP sells except add in more wet garden smell, nothing sweet, just pure plants all over, then you'll like this. Otherwise, it's sour and missing sweetness.
When I think of the word "paradise" I imagine palm trees with coconuts / coconut milk.. woods, tropical fruit, banana, water mist, stones / clay / sand etc..
This perfume wasn't my paradise.
Beyond awful! I really liked the bottle for this one and made a special attempt to track down a cute little sample on eBay.
I didn't mind this at first. It is strong, and reminded me of a mix of orchids and daffodils, with an oceanic undertone. However as the day wore on, I began to feel like I had stumbled into a steamy swamp with a basket of rotting fruit in one hand and a bunch of wilting orchids in the other. This paradise sure wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
So this is one of those fragrances that I can only admire with my eyes. I really don't think my nose could handle a trip to old swampy again.
Concidering its name, I expected to be a very fresh and dreamy-smelling perfume. Istead of this I had a headache and felt sick when I smelled it. In the drydown it was better, but still with a hint of this unpleasant smell of the begining.I defenetly don't like it.
This was too much of everything to me. Too many flowers, too much tropical fruit....it's probably nice if you are on a tropical island, but for me it's not a good scent .
Call me crazy, but I smell oilive oil in it. It's really bad. And I'm a huge fan of flowery scents. I don't get it. I almost threw up when I smelled it. It just reminds me of when I drank oilive oil by accident as a child.
This perfume is just like a walking in a rainforest; It is very floral and tropical, yet very exotic and sexy at the same time. I'm suprised to see many people dislike it! I loved it...It's a perfect scent if you want something that is floral, but not too simple...Perfect for spring/summer, quite long lasting as well!
At first I thought "Michael Kors without the sweetness and the soapiness"! Then I looked up the notes and realized it was gardenia not tuberose that was in the centre of this. Anyway, I when I first applied it on my skin, I really liked - suprisingly so as I had smelled it on paper many times before and had mixed feelings.
It is very floral, makes you feel like you are in a garden. At bit flat and sterile at the same time. Just before it fades a way it develops that "chalk" quality to it.
Warning - there is absolutely noting sweet about it, you need to try before you buy it.
I kind of like it but wouldn't buy it. IMO nothing beats Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Garnedia, so if you want a true elegant gardenia go for that one instead - it is worth every penny!!
It smells just like standing in the middle of a flower field. To me, it is the definition of a floral scent, although it is a bit 1-dimensional for you find nothing except for the floral. Also, I wish EL have the Eau De Toilette version of this. That would be much easier to wear.
Love it. though rarely use on working day. it smells like white night flowers and I am wearing it on special mood. It stays long on my skin..sophisicated & romance scents.
Beyond Paradise, blooms when worn in the heat (on my skin atleast), it is like a lush, dew-drenched tropical flower bouquet with an opening that is citrusy/fruity; you must be a fan of white florals to appreciate this one. It does have a moist/balmy quality to it that I love. Another thing I love about about it is the lack of coconut or pineapple notes...I'm seriously sick of those sugary, beachy 'tropical' scents that smell like pina colada or suntan oil! No, this one is a unique and sexy summer floral without all that junk, and is great for all ages.
I think this scent requires the right climate and/or skin chemistry for it to smell good due to the strength of the florals. On me, it smells best on very clean skin (right after a shower) and on warmer, humid days...BP is a fullbodied, strong scent but in a very refreshing sense. I've tried wearing on cooler nights, and I always get a strange chemical note which is never present during warmer day time. I also find this one turns bad very easily, so most of the tester bottles you find on display in stores smell NOTHING like the brand new purchased bottle (especially if they're been left on the display counter for months!). Trust me, I hated it the first time I tested it at the dept. store (smelled rotten!), but by chance I got to test it a 2nd time from a freshly unpackaged bottle and fell in love, also was given a tiny sample vial of it later (I was in Malaysia at the time). You'll need to store this one very carefully if you do get a bottle and keep it somewhere dark and cool, taking it out only when you need to spray it on.
I'm going out on a limb and saying I like this one but I'm finding the reviews below on this perfume VERY funny :) I guess to each his own. I think the scent of this perfume transports me onto a tropical island but maybe that's because I'm so sick of winter weather that I'm willing to try any means to skip ahead a few months. I find almost all Estee Lauder fragrances very flowery, this one is no different, just to me it smells more like tropical island flowery and aquatic notes. I only have a very small bottle of this and I do enjoy it, but I can't see myself ever buying a big bottle when I love so many other Estee Lauder Fragrances more
I also notice it reminds me a lot of the very hard to find perfume called Unruly by prince matchabelli
This one should have been called Beautiful. I love this perfume. It makes me feel happy and beautiful! My husband loves it on me. Also receive alot of compliments when I used to wear it. Will have to buy it again. Also it lasts forever on my skin.
The design is amazing. Colorful and mysterious. Although the smell is not that impressive, I want to use it just because I will feel colorful and mysterious as well.
whenever I go on holiday I get some new scent (in a duty free of course ;)) and this one has a strong association with Greece to me. Apart from that I really like it, I think I can distinguish the full pallette of flowers used there, so what that some're artificial. Maybe they are, but they transport my thoughts to a true paradise of mine instantly.
One note is missing from ones listed above: jabuticaba, whatever that is.
I love this scent.
It smells very floral and I smell this mostly at the church. Does that make sense? I wear this whenever I want to relax.
Although, I only have the mini bottle because I don't use this as an everyday scent.
A beautiful scent.
I don't even know how to begin to describe this scent, just when I think its aqua it becomes tropical,or slightly spicy, etc... it is so complex. The best I can do is say it smells the way the bottle looks, with the rich colors tranclucently belnding into one another. Does that makes any sense at all???
Very citrus, in a tart grapefruity way,and pretty much linear, so what you first sniff is what you get! It's like an expensive men's cologne, but exotic, a step further up from Anais Anais, and it lasts very well. As a fruity floral that has some character and edge, I like it. It's also VERY Lauder, in the tradition of the Pleasures suite. All in all, good if you like a classy and slightly heavier summer fragrance.
Too too harsh... This is so different than the usual, soft-simple-feminine Estée Lauder style. Flowers are just too much and maybe it doesn't work with my body chemistry but it's awfully nauseating in a fake, plasticky way. A disappointment, considering the name and the sweet bottle.
Edit: The drydown is much better. It's softer and somehow I get powdery citruses as well.
Love it! Can't get enough of it.
Initially I loved the bright floral notes. My thing is floral. BUT... then I began to sneeze and sneeze and sneeze some more... I have no idea which aspect I'm allergic to but after days of trying, this simple, one-dimensional perfume proves its not for me. Innocent and simple despite the number of notes involved, this is a fragrance for girls, not women.
Ok , i must confess , i bought this because of the TV commercial (you know the one with the Madonna song) I go tricked , it can happen to any of us !!!
It's a nice one , i love flower/fresh scent , but it's not so special . Fortunately i bought the smallest bottle available because i was a bit short of money . That was a good thing after all because i got bored of it very quickly.
Not surprisingly the nose behind this "Ok perfume" is the same who did "J'adore" which is not very interresting either.
Haha!! Sherapop, your review is SOOOO Funny!!!!!
I used to hate this perfume with all my heart, but I really changed my mind about it. Not because of The Guide of course, but because I started loving white florals more than I used to.
I did however love reading your review!!
:-)
I tried this one on today, and got my boyfriend to try it on with me. I'm rather jealous of his chemistry at the moment, as Beyond Paradise smelled light and exotic on him, whereas it smelled more biting and harsh on me. The bottle alone makes me want to add it to my collection, but alas, can't judge a perfume by its cover!
I agree with Bronxbeauty. When I was in the department store, I took a smell on the sample paper and didn't think much of it. However, about 4 years ago I decided to buy this frangrance for my mother. She used it, but did not say much about the frangrance. She too bought me a frangrance, JADORE perfume by Christian Dior. One day we decided to swap perfumes. At the end of our days we couldn't believe how many compliments her and I received on the frangrance we were wearing. She kept Jadore and I too stayed with Beyond Paradise. Beyond Paradise is now one of my favorite perfumes to wear. The frangrance is strong when you first try it one, but it's one of those few perfumes which stay on the whole day. The scents on this bottle go well with my skin.
Headache alert! Too much! Too many notes, too strong, too too sweet. I actually number some Estee Lauder frags in my faves. but this one is just too cloying for me. I think, too it offer a barrage of notes, rather than letting you work through and enjoy a range as they develop, if that makes sense!!I am not a huge fan of sweet florals, so that is probably a part of my response!
I actually like this a lot. It's not sweet or frivolous. I wear it in the summer heat and it smells to me like a yet-to-be-discovered lush, red, tropical flower. As opinion on this is so divided, I would suggest sampling it first before you invest in a FB.
Ok, so this fragrance goes both ways. On one hand it is pleasant (if you enjoy honeysuckle) but on the other hand it could be very overpowering! If people around you have allergies you do not want to be wearing this.
I have always steered clear of ugly, tacky, moodring-meets-strobelight bottles, and today I'm prepared to say: I was right! Estee Lauder BEYOND PARADISE is one of the gunkiest concoctions I've had the displeasure of donning in many moons. Thick, gooey fruits mashed together with artificial tropical flowers to produce an olfactory goulash of sorts.
While the opening held promise, with a limpid resinousness reminiscent of and, in terms of quality, on a par with Banana Republic's creations, the drydown I find quite intolerable. In fact, as I attempted to work earlier today, I felt as though I was being slowly suffocated by a miasmic sillage of dead fruits. The only things missing were the gnats. I finally had to stop what I was doing and go take a bath.
As for those who rank BEYOND PARADISE one of the "top ten floral fragrances of all time" (cough, cough), well, I suppose it's possible that one of us is anosmic? Soyons sérieux: "abstract floral" is no more and no less than a euphemism for "chemical soup"! (just as "collateral damage" really means "summarily slaughtered civilians").
Several months ago I read online about a mini-conspiracy theory relating to The Guide which can be neatly summarized thus:
Dick Cheney:Halliburton :: LT:EL
At the time, I scoffed, but I must say that the case of BEYOND PARADISE certainly does not hurt the cause of those who maintain that the self-proclaimed "Emperor" was bought!
And the question does arise quite naturally in inquiring perfumistas' minds: How many ugly bottles of this repugnant stuff were sold blind subsequent to the publication of The Guide? Imagine the hoards of hapless husbands so relieved to "learn" that there was no need to pay Creed prices for a new floral perfume for their wife. No, they needed only to run over to the EL counter and there it would be, an expert-certified masterpiece, right next to the Daywear cream!
A sickly syrupy mess. Had no intention on purchasing this scent based on the over the top notes that were listed but received a sample with another purchase.
On paper it was strong and FULL of tropical florals but pleasant enough and worth exploring further.
Not prepared to try this out in public I gave it the skin test before my morning shower. OH MY LORD!!! the assault was EXTREME.
The pleasant floral I detected on paper amoungst the bizarre chaos was devoured by over ripe fruits on my skin.
I gave it an hour to change my opinion. However having heaved all its notes at me from the beginning, Beyond Pardise had nothing further to offer.
Why go 'beyond' paradise, when you could take up residence 'in' paradise by dialing down the commotion.
A serious mess.... A serious miss.
I'm from the island of Samoa and when you first step off the plane there, the humidity hits you like a brick wall and the air is thick with the smell of lush tropical flowers and over-ripe fruit mixed with the overgrown rainforest and clear turquoise sea. This scent embodies that wonderful smell to me, though it leans more on the floral side of it. I love the scent on others, but not on me. On me it smells like an ashtray thats been sprayed with some floral perfume to try and mask the smell but it doesnt.
Ah well. Still lovely on others.
I wore this everyday for a whole year...it smells so good...very sexy and delicious scent of tropical flowers and more flowers.
I disliked it the first time I tried it four years ago, I thought it smelled like rotten fruits mixed with all sorts of flowers...I retested it recently and surprise, surprise, I like it!! no rotten notes this time, it's quite a heady, sweet, lush bouquet of flowers infact...the jasmine, gardenia and honeysuckle are most prominent to my nose. If you are a fan of heady super-florals (you MUST be a fan of strong white florals to enjoy this!), try this one out, it is fresh but doesn't turn soapy or sharp either which is great...apart from the sweet-citrusy opening, in this fragrance ,the flowers run the whole show, no woods, no fruits, no musk...just flowers along with something 'warm and wet' at the base, definitely has a tropical feel due to that ultra-luscious warm wetness...Beyond Paradise...huge, happy, succulent, dewy, almost-edible-sweet bouquet of flowers...far from mediocre, infact it is quite unique, this stuff is also potent so overall it's a winner for me, I love that it is STRONG without being dated as most strong florals tend to be, which makes this one modern and very wearable...just becareful not to overspray, it can get cloying....I'm just thrilled that it was given a 2nd chance! I really really like it and this could be love!! I've been hunting for the perfect lush, full bodied, tropical white-floral scent, something with great sillage and longevity and BINGO!!! THIS IS IT!! Added to 'want' list :)
PS. I believe this scent would work wonders with the chemistry of those with cool skin temperatures such as myself (I'm always the first one in my group to get icy hands when the temperature dips)! Would love to hear the thoughts of others on this.
I've had this as part of a coffret for years and decided to retest. It really is strange- the opening is incredibly sweet (berries?) but quickly segues into a strong honeysuckle then into something not found in nature.. Does border on overripe fruit.. I have no idea what to make of it. You'd have to be in the mood for a heady, sweet floral to enjoy it. It's certainly not boring!
I can see why so many people dislike this; it's very strong if too much is sprayed. When i tested it i wasn't really sure about it - something didn't smell quite right! But after a while it became a beautiful floral, that doesn't wear off all that quickly. To me it opens with a burst of citrus and then becomes very flowery (which i really like because i'm a fan of strong florals).
Anyone thinking of buying it should definately take their time and test it a couple of times first!!
I used hate this one really intensely, but I changed my mind on this one too. I really love it now, it is an extremely strong white flower perfume, but it is a masterpiece. Not one for everyday though.
I have Beyond Paradise and yes, it does get too strong like some of the reviews are stating. I found that the tropical flowers would get to blooming too much on my skin when I wore it to work. I had to wipe it off a little with an alcohol wipe snitched from the office first aid kit. I was concerned someone might complain it was giving them a headache. It smells exotic like tropical flowers in full bloom but I found that it intensifies on your skin so be careful about wearing it around other people and use a light hand.
Not for wearing to the office.
Can you pull off Envy with aplomb? Does Eden work well for you? Have you the right chemistry to tame Calyx? If you can work wet-florals or answer "yes" to any of the above then you may enjoy this unusual floral fume.
In all honesty, on my skin, this scent sickens & dies, turning a testing into a stomach-twisting headache. I am not a big, bold floral gal but along with the flowers I also find stagnant water, mildew on sodden earth &, of all things, ashtrays (chemistry & scent-perception is such a strange thing!). That said, I can truly appreciate the concept.
Here is a floral that aims to conjure up the still, heavy, heady moist air of a hot-house full of exotic blooms. Others (say a cool-skinned blonde) may marvel at the intoxicating pervasive perfumes but to my nose these strange flowers, wet woods & over-ripe fruits seem sad & trapped, removed from their natural environment.
The start is green, sappy, peppery a little bitter. This settles to a humid, white floral heart where slighlty sickly fruits & that sour-stem note add to the still, moist, heady throng. It continues to grow & glow on my skin, a dark vine entwined round my wrist, ending in a slick of wet, woody warmth.
BP has the uncanny knack of being unique & yet it reminds me of other fragrances, many of which do not sit easily on my skin. I find the hyacinth from Envy is very present along with the green note of Eden & white florals found in Premier Jour Soleil.
Not for me at all - but cool-skinned floral-lovers should give it a try.
This is floral, a unique floral at that. It does not smell of rose, or gardenia, or jasmine. This is not fruity-floral, or powdery-floral, or a softened, indeterminate floral. If you like straight up in your face florals (I do) than you will like this. If you don't, you may not.
You know flowers that have reached the peak of their bloom and are about to wilt? Or fruit that is slightly over ripe that they smell a little rotten? This is what Beyond Paradise smells to me--a bunch of tropical flowers beyond their prime.
BEYOND PARADISE is an amalgamation of many scents, some of which you wouldn't think would mesh well together, but on the right person, each note fuses into a magical aroma that indeed transports you "beyond paradise."
The fragrance opens first with the elusive Eden's Mist, a rare plant that grows only in greenhouses on the coast of Scotland. This note gives the fragrance a wet, almost humid atmosphere. However, this is soon superseded by the rich blue hyacinth and gentle orange flower templar, which permeate the humid fog with a delcious floral, almost spicy tang. Soon after, the very unusual Jaboticaba berry joins the mixture and adds a quiet depth to the opening. Once the perfume establishes its beginning notes and drifts into its center, the delicate heart notes lazily drift foward--the lovely, whimsical crepe jasmine, the soft gardenia, the creamy laelia orchid, the fresh, true, pure sweetness of pink honeysuckle, and the green, tenuous aroma of mahonia japonica. The base remains strong for hours after application, with the drydown containing the rich Natal plum blossom and golden melaleuca bark to keep the exotic nature of the perfume, as well as the zebrano wood and ambrette seed to give it a hint of a woody musk-like scent.
Overall, the fragrance is heavy, hypnotic, and languid--but only on the right person. Fortunately for me, I happen to have the chemistry for it. When I wear Estee Lauder's BEYOND PARADISE, it's like I'm running through a wet, lush, alive tropical rainforest, with green foliage beneath my feet and the sensual aroma of a fresh rainfall clinging to my skin. As I exit the rainforest, I find myself on a beautiful island beach, where vibrant, fragrant flowers release their warm auras into the fading dusk. I picture flowers floating in the ocean, creating an aquatic admixture as night finally falls and the stars emerge.
BEYOND PARADISE is certainly an adventure, if one knows how to experience it. Highly recommended.
This scent reminds me of somthing cold and mystrious not dark or demon alluring side but really something weird like the mystrious mist, fog or cloud if it could have smell in my OP. the combo of aquatic floral scent quite cloying and easy get overwhelming if you put it too much and I recommend to try it before you buy it because this fragrance choose the wearer and proper personal skin chemistry.
I love this perfume!
The hyacint makes it very peppery.
To those who find this scent overpowering, I suggest to try it again in winter! It is then magically transformed into a very airy and bright scent!
upd: I only ever used my mini in winter, but decided to give it a try on a hot day (as it is intended to be a summer fragrance, after all), and - WOW. It's completely different. I still love it, but it's like two separate perfumes! Now it smells tropical, clean, watery, a bit earthy... Perfect for summer after all :)
I re-tried this today. A massive burst of jasmine, followed by a sickly sweet drydown. Smells like dead flowers and/or rotten fruits, very strange indeed.
Whatever Uncle Luca says, apparently BP just doesn't work for me. Very overpowering.
Makes me dizzy. Overpowering, heady, harsh and it smells more like a cemetary with those huge garlands of flowers rather than a paradise. Its just too much.
I pick up a pervasive amount of Amber
Frangrapani jasmine That all i can smell
i could not pick up the other scents
so these are more dominient. which i'm not a Amber lover. What i think About
Estee Lauder Perfumes that it's a mixed bag you got good ones and you got some
bad ones This one i'll give like a 6.5
a Little above Average Perfume.
And also the drydown is a mixture of Coconut vs Honeysuckle which make me
decide this isn't my favorite Perfume
i don't really care for those scent.
I loved the Rrounded teardroped shaped
Bottle with it's Rainbow Glass Coloring
I'll Recomened for Summer or the beach
On me, it is a light, creamy, very sensual scent of gardenia and jasmine. I have never been to a funeral in my life, so, I do not associate flowers (white flowers in particular) with burial rituals; to me, white floral is a lovely, feminine, sensual type of fragrance, reminds me of a jasmine bush that grows underneath my bedroom window, and when it blooms in the spring, at night, the blossoms radiate such an intoxicating, and utterly lovely smell, I just close my eyes, and go "ahhh"... I love it!
I found this similar to Hermes les jardin but it softer. I love this scent when the spice come up slowly through the light of the ocean and green fruit and flower. I found it cool and mysterious at the same time.
I bought Beyond Paradise 2 years ago before smelling it because Luca Turin gave it such high marks. On first whiff I didn't like it at all. Yet, after a couple of months I understood its brilliance. I now leave a bottle on my nitestand! I don't wear it alone in the daytime tho' and always spray a favorite perfume with tobacco top notes after. The two EDTs marry beautifully.
I was in Elder Beermans and tried this perfume Beyond Paradise , because I loved the bottle and glad I did before buying it
its HEAVYYYYYY , whew ! over the top ! I felt the headache coming on , thats what I have to watch out for these days when younger it did not effect me the same way as now :(
I am sure some ladies can wear it with their body chemistry just fine , but it was not for me at all . Yikes !
" WE ARE GATHERED HERE TODAY IN MEMORY OF _____________ WHO TRAGICALLY PASSED AWAY TRAPPED IN A GREENHOUSE OVER FLOWING WITH RANCID ROTTING FLOWERS AND PUTRID SWAMP-LIKE PLANTS. THE FETID CONTENTS UNFORTUNATLY GAVE OFF A LETHAL GAS AND KILLED HER."
AMEN
this scent has the freshest jasmine fragrance note.the nearest to it is a perfume from Vietnam ~ Saigon (green box)
This perfume is everything it says in it's name. The scent of cold, fresh spring water washes over me and then a sweet but faint smell of lemonade immediately mingles with the clear fragrance of white jasmine.
A true jewel of the air and ocean in one. Excellent lasting power and no alcoholic trace, just sweet water, flowers and drops of citrus.
Beyond Paradise automatically makes any girl feel like they are the one walking along the petal road on water in Madonna's "Love Profusion".
Scent 9/10
Staying Power 6/10
Funny this is getting such bad reviews. I really like it! To me, it smells fresh and clean, like spring. I just think it is a really light and airy fragrance, very wearable for work/day. It is a tad one-dimensional, but I don't mind that in a daytime perfume. Perfume is such an individual thing.
I'd like to tell u about my craziness to this Beyond Paradise since I got it last 6 years ago. I really think that it was awesome. The lasting power also great and i like getting the jasmine smell whenever the breeze passed by. It is my first favorite and ever my best one.
A textbook case in having a disarmingly fun and youthful marketing/packaging ill-matched to the scent. Buy it and weep.
I bought it approx 4 years ago and disliked it straight away :-(
I am sorry to say this but it was the most traumatic experience; I felt literally as if someone stuffed my throat with iris flowers (although there is no iris in perfume description!).
It was so bitter, indifferent, neither sexy, nor romantic. It smelt like a cheap air freshener to me and made me feel dizzy!
It was really awful, I gave it to my sister who had the same feeling: migraine, headache and disgusting bitterness in throat after smelling it.
A disgraceful fragrance I would have never though Estee Lauder would dare to bring into the market!
People REALLY don't like this, do they? Funny, this is one of my favorites of all time. It reminds me of a dew-drenched tropical garden. Strong white florals are definately heady stuff (for that matter, dew-drenched tropical gardens are heady stuff). I just happen to love a strong, creamy gardenia scent and this is certainly that. If that's not your thing, I can see how this could strike someone as a flower shop on steroids.
Wasn't too happy to find out that I wouldn't like this perfume; the bottle looks really good with the colours and what not, so I guessed it was going to be really fruity with some rapberry, vanilla, peach, aquatics etc, but I think it's the Hiacynth and Hibiscus Flower that steers my nose away from the perfume. I do like some florals like 'W by Banana Republic' which I'm in love with, but this..no, not so much!
A few years ago, I had a colleague that I was able to pass off a few mini bottles to. On her, the fragrance smelled like wet tropical flowers. She left a soft and dewy-sweet scented trail wherever she went. She had just the right chemistry for this fragrance, and after smelling it on her, I knew that was how it was supposed to smell.
On me, this was floral-overload. My chemistry magnified the notes and it gave me an instant headache. Both the fragrance and the headache lasted forever.
I do love the rainbow bottle. It appeals to the little girl in me.
this was an annoying scent. i ended up giving it to my mom. If
i were to smell it again it would take me back to a bad place in my life anyways. The concept and bottle are nice though.
it's just too much!
I agree with both the postive and negative reviews on here - this is an unusual smell but it actually works really well on me as I bring out the sweet notes in perfume so some musky, vanilla perfumes are overpowering on me. It is EXTREMELY floral so anyone who does not like flowery scents should stay away from this one.
I like this scent but not enough to ware it all day long. It was well worn by my co-workers years ago and that was enough for me to never ware it EVER! Its a pretty scent but not on me.
It really reminds me very mauch o 'Marc Jacobs", It is an ordinary scent, not surprising nor impressive at all.
How the hell did such a rancid perfume end up in such a captivating bottle?
Spray it on and you'll feel like you're trapped in an over-heated green house!
I'll be damned if anyone actually likes this.
Some may think it smells like the tropics; I believe this smells like wilted flowers being composted in the swamp.
This is one of the scariest smelling fragrances I've ever come across.
Am I at a funeral? This one stinks, it's like jasmine puree diluted in grapefruit juice with a hint of I don't know. Honestly I rather die from H1N1 symptoms than from Beyond Paradise intoxication. Yucky flowery mixture, It doesn't even deserve to be called a fragrance.
I smell figue in it. It's intense allright, but not tropical or balmy. More like chypree with the smell of the fruit i mentioned. Not bad, not something exceptional either. Good in mediocrity. Depends on the mood of whom is wearing it.
Beyond paradise smells exactly how I imagine the smell of the Amazon rainforest with all exotic flowers and fruits, so intense.Genuine, quite different from other floral scents, Beyond is a very interesting fragrance with personality. I like, though there were bad comments, I think it's because it is very unusual.Beyond is hard to accept, but soon became addictive:)
Wow - this is an amazing fragrance but it can be overwhelming! Imagine a huge bouquet of exotic flowers presented to you still dripping with moisture from the hothouse... This blend is on the edge of floral chaos but that's what makes it uplifting and exhilarating!
Love it but use with apply with care.
I agree with people who say it smells like a funeral. Have you ever been on a graveyard after an extremely hot week in summer? Then you know what this smells like. It's a shame, I love the bottle so much I'd buy it just for that, but I simply can't stand this scent.
This is the perfect example of 'fatal attraction'.
I fell head over heels for the bottle's distinctive design and when I sprayed it on I almost died.
Putrid, Rancid, Stale.
Ive tried imitation perfumes that smell alot better than this.
I love this perfume, it smells so pretty and sweet... like a nice tropical day :) But I have nose for the uber sweet and flowery not heavy pottent stuff. This is a really light and uber gardeny sent.
I don't like Estee Lauder, for the most part-I love Aliage. This is another disappointment. But there is a hint of pleasant sweetness to the scratchy matronly aura, unlike the disgusting '80s florals like
"Beautiful","Pleasures" and the super-matronly "Intuition"....
I simply love it though im not a floral fragrances lover and certainly not jasmin. But this one is really different from all those heavy and heady jasmine fragrances. It's soft, delicate and has long staying power.
I smelled it after Bulgari Voile de Jasmin, and Ive noticed a certain resemblance between the 2, in favor of Beyond Paradise.
This reminds me of my grandmother. She has a little collection of Estee Lauder fragrances and when she wore this it would soothe me. Definetely lots of nerves that were calm when Im beside her :) This scent is soothing to me.
Hm.. after I read it was like funeral, I gave it a try... and yes, I can think of funeral a little bit, but for me it lacks pine to become true funeral scent.
I thought it would be different, because it smelled from bottle like a bud of exotic notes that awaits to unfold. At first it was like something weird. It reminded me some old fashioned perfume, but I could take it, I was waiting for it to develop. I think the top phase is the one that scares away most people from it, then... after hopes so high, 30 minutes later I smelled almost the Pure White Linen on my skin only this to be a little more exotic, but not that much to be different. I think Estee Lauder perfumes I tried all smell very alike, like they have the same 'core', like their signature. But this one is not for me, it's too safe in my opinion. I can tell it smells like a bit syrupy sweet florals with fresh ripped woods (it's more like green bark). Projection and staying power is good. Bottle pretty too, I like the gradient color of it.
The bottle and the advertising deceive! Oh, they deceive! You would expect something that is "beyond paradise", or at least "gorgeous". But it is a muddy tropical floral scent, so typical of Estee Lauder's perfumes.
I think it was created with good intent and a lot of hard work, but the final result was a little dissapointing. I feel sorry for them, having discovered/used all these thousands of rare fruits and flowers from the Eden project, and all the trouble they went to trying to create "the perfect blend". Just goes to show that hard work doesn't always pay off.
I get the flowers and fruits, but they aren't balanced right. The notes are not distinct enough and the scents run into each other. It makes a rather muddy rainbow, than the perfect rainbow shown on the bottle. I'm sorry Estee Lauder!
It's off-beat and its been a favorite of mine for years now and I'm still discovering different things about it that I love. You can really smell the honey suckle after its been on your skin for a while.
It's a very ambivalent scent. I own a mini, after asking it back of my friend, because I gave it to her so many times and always wanted it back after a couple of months.
It indeed has personality and is different to the faint flowery perfumes on the market. It smells like a bunch of flowers, mud, rain, green leaves and rotten fruits. Strange but nice!
Hmmm...it reminds me of a slough, this kind of slough that you meet in summer...rotten leaves, jolly frogs and smelly water. After 10 min the smell changes in something more decent...in this moment you can exclude the smelly water but the frog jolliness nearby the rotten leaves persists. After an hour all that I smell is a wood soaking in the boiled water of summer.
I was about to write (er, type) that I felt this just smelled like wild flowers and nothing more. But I took another whif of my wrist, and lo and behold, gardenia! I think im enjoying this much more than the other reviewers seem to. It's true that the lemon is not detectable, but I'm not a huge citrus fan so that makes me happy. It's pretty, and admittedly not original, but it's a nice fragrance none the less.
call me a web-victim, I read Luca Turin's comments, disagreed, tested it for 1000 times, and didn't like it, and today I bought it:)
weeeel, its not THAT bad after all, but actually I'm planning to stash it away, and wait, when it would become extinct rarity:)))
I don't get anything rotten there, some flowers, nothing more
I must admit I am not amazed by Estee Lauders fragrances & this is one of the worst perfumes I have ever wore or smelled.
Where is the lemon? Where is the gardenia, the jasmine? Those are beautiful fragrance scent notes to be used, and all I could smell on me was plastic or even burning rubber…
At first, it tricked me well, but when I saw the reactions of my friends, it finally make me realize that this fragrance was definitively not for me!
Is this supposed to remind us of paradise? Because for me, it certainly reminds me of how to get to… The road of smelling hell! (LOL)
I love Estee Lauder products but the prices are way too expensive, so best to wait during gift time :-) Beyond is another very much floral scent, quite fruity on the first spray, but is more floral aqua after a couple hours, thus best wear during winter months. This would suite more mature ladies, a perfect gift for mother day!
I bought a mini, as I'm not able to get to an Estee Lauder counter to test. Boy, was that a mistake.
After reading over the comments here, it seems to me like this one is either a love-it-or-hate-it scent. I'm in the Hate It camp. It's too syrupy for me. Luca Turin (Perfumes: The Guide) can go on all he likes about abstract florals and how difficult they are to achieve, but this smells like mashed flowers, fruit pulp, and sugar on me. Bleah.
I am so amazed at some comments here. I just adore this perfume, probably because it reminds me of Lumière, does anyone remember Lumiere? It was a gidt from my 1st love and uhhmmm, it is special. When i 1st smelled at the perfume shop "beyond paradise" I was speechless, it is exactly like Lumiere. It took me back to young days when I was in love and nearly had to be waken up by the girl at the perfume counter, lol

I tried this in the store, and instantly fell in love. It is an intoxicating, exotic floral, with just a hint of citrus sunniness. The lovely rainbow bottle compliments this scent beautifully.
I don't know what was going through my head when I decided that I actually liked this fragrance. Trying it on my wrist today made me change my mind completely.
Sickeningly sweet, synthetic and reminiscent of toilet spray was how I perceived Beyond Paradise. I just couldn't get this perfume off my wrist fast enough.
Definitely long-lasting, it took 3 different types of soaps to get this one off.
Okay, I have to admit, I thought Beyond Paradise was very generic at first, and "all been done before". Okay floral...nothing out of the ordinary...seemed a bit bold of EL to call it such a name! But now that I've tried it a second, third and fourth time, I've changed my mind. It kind of reminds me of Monyette Paris, but then not (I plan to own both, so I hope they aren't too close!), but it's not like other fragrances I've smelt before, I think I thought it was generic at first because it's like something I smelt in the 80's. By that I don't mean it's an 80's type fragrance, more that it smells like something I smelt at that time... sexy, tropical, suntan oil type of scent, but in a sophisticated way. I can definitely smell jasmine and honeysuckle and many other exotic flowers which I really could not name, even if I tried! It is a tad strong, and I can see why some might turn away from it, but it's worth a few tries imo! It softens beautifully on me, though it seems quite linear on my skin. I don't mind that though.
I'm not sure if it will become one of my absolute faves, but adding to me liking it is the fact that my man walked in the door the day I was testing it and said straight away, "What's that?!" in a good way. I proffered my arm to him and he said, "That's it! MMmmmm, I like that." That always gets a star in my book!
Mediocre. Its not actually has bad as they all say. It could work for some people. Flowery even though it reminds me of the sea. If your not into floral so much give Beyond Paradise Blue a try. In all honesty I dont like either all that much; I find them uninviting and almost desperate. They dont jump out at me as 'sexy' or 'romantic' at all. Still might as well give it a try; you never know could be the perfect one for you!
Wow. "To each his own" is all I can say. Beyond Paradise became my new favorite perfume when it came out and it still is. We know it is synthetic ingredients that make up all but the most expensive perfumes today (check out Yu). Still, I think it comes close to smelling like the real thing.
This seems to me to be something you want to like; I mean look at the bottle, look at the colours, all that gorgeousness in the description. The Eden project etc etc etc.................but it is in my opinion a really horrid smell.
I wore this on a cruise to Jamaica and it was the perfect perfume for thje occasion, It gives me a tropical feeling and I will forever associae the scent with having a warm nightime breeze blowing through my hair.
This is the second Estee Lauder perfume that doesn't impress me. To me it smells more like an aquatic than a floral. I can't really put my finger on what exactly ruins it for me.
I have a miniature bottle of Beyond Paradise - but like the most people here - I don't like it! It's heavy and has too much flowers in it for my taste.
All I can explain for this perfume is..."Lily" I hate it. It smells very strong and smell like I'm crushing a fresh lily and smearing on all over my body! No another scent! Just only Lilie!!!
I don't like it, either. I tested it some years ago, but the scent stayed in my memory as disappointing (although the bottle was fascinating to me). Maybe, I would like it better now because my taste changed...
I find it very similar to Burberry's Tender Touch (pink bottle).. Notes of perfume looks very good, but actually I find it simple and boring. Plastic smell, too much honeysuckle? maybe..
I think what makes Estee Lauder's scents so "interesting" to some-thnking of Beautiful and BPP in particular-is their tendency to merge. That is, a group of individual scents come together to create something new and heretofore unknown. The problem with this is that the new "product" is often alien and unapproachable. While Luca Turin interprets this as the genius of Calice Becker, I have to disagree as to the success of the results. Remember, a beautiful rainbow of colors, without their distinctions, is a muddled brown.
Tried my best to love it. who wouldn't with the brand name so big like Estee Lauder, especially when it has that Eden projects. so nice.
However, to me, it smells like a bunch of flower led by jasmine. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.
Unfortunately, all my colleagues gave me compliments every time I wear it. The men said it was sexy, the women heavenly.
I absolutely love this and have received compliments for the way it smells on me.
I liked it right away so I am so surprised to hear it smells unpleasant to some people.
This is one of my favorite perfumes, I love that it is fresh and sexy, I always receive compliments when I am wearing this. It is an uplifting scent, I use it for a pick-me-up on rainy days. ^.^ I must mention that the EDP is different from the EDT, which is strange..
A lot of flowers sensation, very strong some times, very light others... Hyacinth is so notable for me, and hibiscus whit lemon... Im think the taste and lasting of this scent depends -too much- of the particular chemical combination with the skins... i bought a bottle of EDP and body lotion for my Mother, because she likes very much the flowery perfumes... and she really love it¡¡¡
Body lotion is really lasting and smell very intense...
But to me, this perfume could be stifling, harsh, unpleasant... disgusting... Im dislike that¡ so much
However, it's could be nice for fresh and breeze days... to anybody else
I enjoyed this perfume very much when I had it because it is a true floral, bordering on an extreme floral !
I enjoy exotics & spicy perfumes ,
and florals too. It has a complicated layer of florals, but, combines into one BIG smell . It is a very 'pure flower'" scent, too. It is very strong, and it has good lasting power. I see that it has Jaboticaba wich is from Brazil, where I live. :) It is very strong, lasts a long time, and in this way is typical of EL perfumes.
Another fragrance that causes me headache...It is not too sweet nor too spicy but it has one note that just doesn't work for me.Maybe hyacinth?...
I don't really like Estee Lauder perfumes, there's always something wrong with them. This one simply smelled very rotten on me. On the bright side, it lasted exactly 10 minutes and then it faded.
Every time i wear this I get asked what I am wearing. Its very exotic and different and I love it. Its not a floral on me but its something deep dark and sexy. Its a keeper for me.
When I first smelled it from a colleague in the office I seriously looked around for a flower arrangement with lilies !! I could hardly believe that it could be a perfume. Ok, so flowery and not my style at all. But I should admit it, for this range it's highly successfull. I bought a small one for my mom and it smells wonderful on her. Just like a rare flower garden, so lively, so real.
I gave away my bottle of Beyond Paradise today. The person I gave it to said she used to wear this all the time. On her, it smells very baby powdery. Not floral at all! On another coworker, it smells all honeysuckle! On me, it smells like gasoline. Go figure.
My mom keeps buying me perfumes, and I wish she'd stop. This is yet another one that she bought for me, and it is totally not my style. It's so fruity, and I'm not a fruity-flowery gal. If you love florals, this one is ALL floral. There's no darkness in it at all. It needs a BASE-note. And it doesn't own one. It's a perfume of all topnotes, like a gaggle of women congregating in the ladies room, chattering away, each wanting to be heard over the din.
When I sprayed this, I was horribly confused. All I could think when I smelled this was "I don't get it...". Didn't make any sense to me. The bottle was so pretty and flirty, what happened to the scent? The representation was totally off of the actual product. It smelled like an ashtray mixed in with fruit, similar to the breath of a smoker who just chewed fruity gum. It may be the hyacinth, which I tend to absolutely hate (most of the perfumes I can't stand have hyacinth.) And I have never been an Estee Lauder fan. I don't know what it is, but this one totally turned me off.
Due to so many people into Estee Lauder perfumes, I kept trying them because I really wanted to like them too, but that wasn't possible. And this one totally ended my hope of liking Estee perfumes.
Let me start by saying, I love Estee Lauder products. I really wanted to like Beyond Paradise. I have tried it a couple times, but I just cannot make myself like it. My husband told me he thought it smelled like a hotel swimming pool. It has such a strong honeysuckle note & another note (I just can't place it) that just sticks in my nostrils for hours. YUCK!
I imagine on some people it would smell great. Overall, just make sure you sample a day before buying it. I really think this will turn off most loyal Estee Lauder clientle. Especially if you are a fan of Estee's original more European sophisicated scents
