The new fragrance by Estee Lauder – Sensuous, arrives in July 2008. This fragrance is moving the boundaries from already well known Estee Lauder floral notes towards opulent oriental woodsy-amber concept, which will praise the beauty and sensuality of women of all age.

Sensuous is created in cooperation with the nose Annie Buzantian of Firmenich, which composed it of sensual lily notes, magnolia and jasmine petals in the top. The heart brings aromas of molten wood and amber, while the base introduces sandalwood, black pepper, juicy mandarin pulp and honey.

The fragrance will be available as 30ml (1 fl.oz.), 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 100 ml (3.4 fl.oz) EDP, and 15 ml (0.5 fl.oz.) pure perfume, with matching fragrant body care collection.

The bottle draws attention with its simple, yet very elegant lines. It is made of heavy glass with waves, with rose-gold top and name imprinted in purple letters.

This design was selected for several reasons, including the intention of the designers to make it in line with pervious Estee Lauder editions.

The photographs were shot by Craig McDean. The ad faces for Sensuous will be Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy and Hilary Rhoda.

Such a soft skin scent, I can barely pick up any notes. It's very pleasant, probably great for a person who doesn't typically like wearing perfume. Very low sillage; only enough for whoever's kissing you! Yet even the next day I can still smell it on me.

2nd review:
I used to love sandalwood but I can't get along well with sandal dominant perfumes,I still like a hint of it in combination with vanilla and other notes,but woodsy,even sandalwoody fragrances are not my thing anymore
I decided to give sensous a try and see how do I feel about it now
It's unbelievably amazing that I still love it!
Yes there is a dominant sandalwood here,but it's dewed in peppery amber and is so well blended with honeyed florals that It's still lovely to my nose,I love top and middle notes more than it's balmy woody base but it's still very nice,warm,soothing,cuddly and deep..I really wished there was a flanker of it with more honey and amber and florals..I think I'd better layer it with amber solinotes to see wheter I like it more or not..
Ok,so not still among my top tens but still lovely,wearable and sensous
BTW,longevity and sillage are much better in cold weather

I'm younger and use this as my fall/winter perfume. It lasts forever, is quite strong, and I think it's suitable for day or evening.

On me it starts out smelling like honey and is almost overpowering. The initial sweetness wears off quickly though and then gradually fades from honey to powdery warm sandalwood. It strikes me as very feminine and cozy and clean.

It was a very risky blind buy for me because I really dislike sensous noir,it's like men's Cologne on me but this one is beyond my expectations and I'm really happy that I took the risk of this blind buy
I don't like woody fragrances but sandalwood is a lovely exception(also cashmeran)
All notes are very well blended in sensous,though I can pick up all the notes listed here,creamy sandalwood dewed in warm,sweet honey and spicy amber and a combination of my most beloved floral(lily,magnolia,jasmine and ylang-ylang)
Sensous is really true to its name,it's sensous,warm,seductive,it's deliciously sweet and spicy without being cloying,it's mature,smooth,deep but not heavy,I really love it and maybe it's going to become one of my top tens
Though it's better for cold seasons it's not irritating in heat..Longevity and sillage could be better but they are acceptable
I love you Estee lauder,this one is very different from your other perfumes,however this is very lovely too

I'm not really a fan of Estee Lauder fragrances. However, it isn't bad for me with honey and woody scent with a longevity of around 4 to 6 hours. It is good for cooler climates and warmer nights.

(I'm reviewing the original 2009 EDP release; not sure if it's been reformulated)

Abbreviated review:
Flawlessly smooth. Gently spiced. Warm. Radiant. A slow, steady heartbeat. Seamless. A second skin.

More...

Sometimes to find yourself you must first get lost.

Sensuous is one of my signature fragrances, and I get lost in olfactory pleasure when I wear it. I reach for this when I don't know what else to wear. It radiates a quietly sensual warmth. It's quiet, soft, polite and sophisticated from a distance...but it's hypnotizingly sexy as you draw ever closer (or in summer's heat.)

The rose gold flacon and cap satisfies my synesthesia - it matches the juice inside perfectly. The flacon has evenly-spaced, stamped wavy ridges on the back of the bottle which provide tactile pleasure - like a magnified fingerprint. The fragrance itself is satiny smooth - warm, but not stifling.

I wear Sensuous day or night, year-round. Longevity: it lasts well into the next morning (albeit softer, but it's still noticeable.) It has enough warmth to easily provide comfort in fall/winter, but it's truly intoxicating in the heat.

This is fairly linear on my skin, and I'd have it no other way. I crave its steady exhalation of sandalwood, amber and honey. It's lightly sweetened by the honey and mandarin, but magically it's the same level of sweetness as warm, natural skin. The peppery spices are whisper-soft - just enough to provide a small, yet constant emotional pleasure buzz. The jasmine and ylang ylang quietly trace dizzying spirals of understated sexiness throughout.

I think this is mostly a feminine scent, but it's neutral enough where I think it could be layered over a woodsy/resinous oil if a man wants to try it. Alone, it's lacking a certain depth and bolder spice that I personally like to smell on a man, but YMMV.

"Something sensual, it's full of fire and mystery..."

On me:

Powdery, some sweetness--like a faint honey note. I liked it for a minute, but it became reminiscent of a baby doll's powdered rubber "skin" from childhood. It wasn't unpleasant, but I couldn't kick the connection between the scents from my mind.

I really enjoy Sensuous Nude, in which my skin picks up the woody notes with no synthetic vibe at all. There is quite a difference between the two for me, regardless of the flanker status.

When you first spray it, you can feel balsamic and honey. As time flies and the perfume makes magic along with your skin, you can feel the soap, the freshness, but also the sexiness: amber, the sweet part and the woods!
I believe that it's a perfume of confidence and sensuality for everyone who wears it!
I smell it and I imagine a beautiful woman walking on the street, wearing a wonderful dress and holding a shopping basket, then sitting in a cafe and waiting for her lover!
That's sensuous to me!

Update: I wore this on Saturday, then I was in the Mall for shopping and between 30 min two women complimented me for my perfume! Success!

I've been wearing this perfume for about 8 hours now and i can still faintly smell it. I had gotten a nice sized sample from a friend on fragrantica, and i have to say it is georgeous.,Usually my husband likes fruity floral scents that i find sometimes boring so i didn't think my husband would like this one like i do. Out of 12 samples he was smelling he actually picked this one as his top 3 favorites. When i first spray it im consumed with sandlewood and honey, yummy. Ooh this is good sandlewood. After a few minutes i keep thinking ive smelled this before and it finally came to me. This turned a bit powdery but in a good way. It smells just like my grandmas makeup cabinet when i was 10. I used to innocently snoop through her makeup cabinet and it was filled with body powders, perfumes, lip stick, face powder. I would put the face powder abd lip stick on and feel so grown up and like i did something wrong, lol. Sensous smells like the face powder grandma used to wear. The first 3 hours i wore this perfume i thought of my grandma and the easy and carefree times as a child. This perfume makes me feel happy, warm, safe, and brings wonderful memories. It is also a perfume that i imagine wearing with a over sized cozy cashmere sweater next to a cracking fire place. Beautiful. Im thinking I'll get a full sized bottle for Mothers Day!

Very potent sandalwood and amber; deep and sweet. And very heavy. I am amazed that anyone would wear this to the office or feel it is a skin scent! It's one of those types of perfumes you hope your neighbor on the plane isn't wearing....not because it's awful, but because it is a powerhouse. Initially I thought I was going to like it, but within minutes the woods took over and it was too much. Definitely not for me.

SENSUOUS is a beautiful fragrance with a dominant note of sandalwood warmed by a few drops of honey. SENSUOUS is classic and classy, but in no way conservative or boring. It works year-'round and goes well with jeans, cashmere, velvet, linen, silk, real jewelry, faux bling, office suits, swimsuits and birthday suits. Sillage is moderate and longevity is very good.

I love it. Which is strange because this is the perfume I neglected and then was surprised when I really liked it. It's big honey and woody to start with.. I'm thinking Mmmmm this brings back a sense of atavistic smells. It's probably the sandalwood. It has a pretty good staying power. I like this. You can do a lot worse!

I just got this in the EDP, and it's a lot nicer than I used to think it was. I always wanted to like it, but couldn't. I think my tastes have changed slightly. I still don't like cedar notes, or maybe it's that my body chemistry just magnifies that note too much. I'm finding that I do like Sandalwood though. I also love the note of honey in this. I don't get a lot of the floral notes, and that's okay with me. I have Sensuous Nude, and Sensuous Noir, so figured it was time I got the original. I still don't like Sensuous Nude, which, note wise, was the one I blind bought thinking I'd love.

I also have Adam Levigne for Women, and I find them to be similar, but I think the Adam Levigne is actually a little nicer. More well rounded, and unique. I like them both though.

I really wanted to love this fragrance, I even bought it without any discount and thought it would be a happy relationship... But it wasn't. As much as I like it on paper, I had to give my bottle away to a friend.

The sandalwood, which in general I adore, got very strange on me, giving me a feeling of a... scratchy wool sweater. I literally felt like my skin was getting red and irritated with a rash (and it wasn't, it was just my imagination). Then I would get a lot of pepper, but also unpleasant - once I even went to the kitchen and stuck my nose into a bag of pepper to sniff and compare! The pepper in Sensuous had an old, dirty, stuffy feeling to it, which is not the case in the kitchen. :)

Still looking for my perfect, womanly, creamy, sexy sandalwood for everyday use. Sorry, Estee. It's not you.

A warm honey on your skin. Seductive and true to it's name a very sensuous fragrance. It's more aromatic in the winter months. I love the white flowers in this perfume: magnolia is my favorite flower, jasmine and lily. The floral scents serve as the sweet opening that would have been otherwise provided by fruits. No fruits in this fragrance! I love when that happens! This is mainly a floral woodsy fragrance. The woods are soft and not dark. Sandalwood, amber and honey keep it together in a skin scent of warmth, sexiness, elegance, and feminine beauty. I can't smell this on a guy. This is also a very mature fragrance so I would say this is for women who are still in the game and dating in their 30's. I love the Estee Lauder fragrances. I recommend this scent for women who want to enhance their beauty with perfume.

Sensuous is a skin scent in the sense that it has a skin like fragrance to it, not in the sense that it does not project far. In fact, Sensous was noticeable to anyone talking to me when I wore it.

Sandalwood is paired with honey and black pepper. There are vague powdery floral top notes. The quality of scent is a bit synthetic and unnatural.I would say “perfume-y” but that it feels silly to say that but I know some poeple would know exactly what I mean. However, I do like it. A sexy warm fragrance that is versatile for both day and night. It gives the impression of dried down perfume on warm skin which I find suggestive: sexy and intimate. Has a lasting power around 4-6 hours.

I absolutely ADORE this - the light, sweet honey, sandalwood, the woods & amber ALL of it!
I know that pepper is listed but it's way down in the ingredients and I can barely detect it. Really wish it would pack a bigger punch than just lingering delicately in the background.

At first spritz this is perfect and I wish the light woodsy notes would stick around a little longer. However, this turns into a skin scent quickly with that beautiful jasmine/orange drydown. I also get, and this is hard to describe, a distant lipstick scent from this perfume.
I wish my skin would just naturally smell like this all autumn long lol!

I like my winter scents to be strong and this is far from it so don't take my word for it - this could be absolutely perfect for the typical lady who wants a gorgeous peppery wood mixed expertly with sandalwood. It's just perfect for autumn nights, maybe even a frosty winter evening, out on a date or even to the office.

As a sidenote since this is so light yet long-lasting that it works quite well with layering. Kenzo Elephant smells divine as well as Adam Levine for Women, which bears a striking resemblance although the Levine has a big "vinegar" note that smells cheaper than this lush concoction. Have fun and experiment! :)

I have the EdP, code AC8. At first it is creamy and almost gourmand, with an orange tint. After an hour or more I get sandalwood, and it's not the "low quality" stuff either! The florals act to soften things up but are not obvious individually. And the amber isn't syrupy or supers-sweet. I am comfortable wearing it but I think men will be divided as to whether it is unisex or not (I usually use one spray). Overall, I'd classify this as a "higher end" designer scent, though if you already have one similar, for example Adam Levine's perfume, you may feel it is redundant. The wood note in this one, though, is stronger and more appealing (to sandalwood note fans, I'd guess).

I think it is ok and can see how it could be pleasant to others. I do appreciate that it is a nice perfume. The sandalwood is too much for me though. It smells very sharp or screeching on me. After a couple hours when the sandalwood has calmed down a bit it is better. Am glad to have tried to wear it, but don't want to own. Do own and love Sensuous Noir.

I adore the balance of sweet, woody and tart citrus in this one. The honey is really beautiful and blends really well with the wood. It's not a super dry or herbal sandalwood, it's very deep, warm and sweet, almost a little sticky.

Over time I've really grown to appreciate it. It feels very familiar, and very womanly, almost motherly I would say. I would put it in the same family as L'Instant by Guerlain; super feminine, calm, warm honeyed wood with a light hint of flowers.

I'm quite disappointed with this one. While it does actually smell good, it lacks in performance quite a bit.

I smell a citrus sandalwood at first with a dry tone behind. That really changes quite quickly though and it becomes a sweetened, but very dry peppery sandalwood. The pepper dries this out. Add some more dry woods to it and you have a blend that is not sensuous as such, more....lightly spiced?

It doesn't smell bad or anything, but..what lets it down is a lack of projection and longevity. This goes nowhere on me at all.

Never before have I worn a perfume that was this captivating. I have been followed in "quote" a number of places by men and asked what was I wearing. This is nothing like many perfumes that are overwhelming and loud. I smiled and said "Sensuous asking...". This is amazingly what drew me to just smell the perfume was the name "Sensuous". My husband has always said, "Honey, sensuous up will you..." I tried it just to test it and I was overwhelmed with how many asked people that one time stopped me and asked me what I was wearing. I have from that day only worn this perfume. I love this particular perfume only in this line.

Bought this perfume based on a sample. Which I'm thinking may have been a mistake. Just like everything/ most things in life, opinions are subjective. So for me, the scent didn't suit the name, as whenever I'm wearing it, I don't get that feeling aura. For this reason, I'm now using it to go work

I agree the name Sensuous does not make sense. I must have detected the ever so faintest black pepper and shy woods from first spray for only 2 minutes. Not my idea of something to wear to endure a sensual mood. I sprayed this right before a long evening out on the town and good thing i had a backup of my signature cologne in my purse to spray on top. Sensuous did not even mix with my Sand n Sable or help it project more. On my skin it's rather boring for summer time.

I echo what Svetlana says. It is a nice comforting scent on warm evenings. Good longevity and sillage but I also find a jarring polymer note at times. I think it is the honey note. It can get almost indolic in heat and I don't like that. The sandalwoody note is so good it is worth it though and I reach for this a lot.

There is nothing sensuous or sensual about this scent IMO. It is all about comfort and restful contemplation, which sandalwood and honey tend to convey to many people. I like to use it in the summer towards the end of the day. The contrast of sandalwood coolness and honey warmth feels pleasant. However, my nose also detects a strange artificial polymer note every time I apply Sensuous. This note does not belong in the overall harmonious composition. Thus, it is a "like", not a "love".

The more I use this fragrance, the more I appreciate it. It's warm yet soft, and the notes blend together seamlessly. I think that for its classification, it's a very feminine scent and indeed sensuous scent. And important for me, it's not a loud, brash perfume.

I wear this anytime -- day or night, winter or summer. Excellent longevity, too.

After wearing this today I felt compelled to leave a second review. I really am so baffled by the lasting power and sillage of this supposed EDP. They are none existent, five minutes after applying I could smell nothing,just a faint faint wood on my wrist and I applied around ten sprays. If I spray this and sniff it immediately it is gorgeous and could become one of my favourite scents of all time,but unfortunately I can't give that high esteem to a perfume that is gone before you walk out the door. Such a shame :-(

I bought it 2 years ago when I was 19. it's pretty sophisticated for teen I think. But I don't know somehow at Estee Lauder couter I chose this one over Estee Lauder pleasure. I liked it when I smell it at the store but when I came home I smell it again and I think it's too formal for me. So since I bought it I hardly use this scent only a few times in winter. Last night before I go to sleep, I spary it on my ears and my wrist I do not like the top note too pepery in there but when I woke up the tope note turn to the base not and it amazing "Like your skin but better" totally express this fragrance. this fragrance lasts long BUT you have to smell it close to your skin. Ooh I just love this.. It's everything you'd expect from an Estee Lauder fragrance..sophisticated, grown up (with out being too "mature", soft, warm, slightly heady and envelopes you like a gorgeous cashmere sweater.. Having said that though, and although it is quite "woody" I personally would wear this at any time of the year..(maybe not on the hottest summers' day, but certainly a summer evening).. I also really like the Nude flanker but I'll give the Sensuous Noir a miss!

I am not a fan of Estee Lauder's perfumes, but Sensuous Line and this one in particular, is a favorite of mine. It is , what I call, a "hug" fragrance. You want to come closer to the person WHO wears it. Very versatile, for all seasons and occasions, not a masterpiece, but a good modern scent. The sandalwood and the amber are two of my favorite notes, are not too pronounced but are adding something else in the perfume. Sexy, in a discreet and casual way.

I remember when Sensuous by Estée Lauder first came out and I think I was just too young to appreciate it at the time. I recently re-smelled this in a department store and swooned! After about three days of having obsessive thoughts about it and practically craving it I got myself online and ordered it! The sweetness of the honey and amber mixed with the pepper is to die for, I absolutely love it. I think that the sandalwood smoothes out the whole fragrance and makes it sensual and classy. My man happens to adore this scent on me so I think it will become a popular date night fragrance!

The woodiness here reminds me of Burberry Body although that's the only similarity between them; they're quite different scents apart from that.

What I find particularly interesting in this perfume is how distinctive the pepper is. This is the first time for me to smell pepper in a perfume so clearly.
I like the fragrance in general; warm, woody and spicy, not too sweet - I don't get any honey. Probably more fall/winter appropriate. The bottle is gorgeous.

If you're not the biggest fragrance freak it would impress you. For me personally it ranks as an everyday scent with a twist - definitely not ultra special but still a decent and elegant choice.

I wanted to love this, and indeed when I caught a whiff every now and then on my own arm it was pleasant and sophisticated, but when I hold my wrist up to my nose I get a lot of woodsy notes that just aren't very likeable to my nose. I am on the fence about this one. Also I really don't get many florals from this one.

update: gave it another go to see if I was doing it justice but it has me more on the fence than ever. I'm not sure whether I like or dislike.At first spray I'm thinking I will definitely add to my collection. But then the combination of honey, woods and mandarin are something that I can't really enjoy. Florals are definitely in the dry-down- a nice sweet lily/jasmine combo is revealed- it smells very good to me now, nice powdery warm mellow scent. I think I can still remove it from my want list now and try the flanker (nude).

When I've tried Hermes Eau de merveilles, I thought that it is a bit too harsh for me, too much wood. But that fragrance motivated me to explore some more woody perfumes. Estee Lauder Sensuous was one of the suggestions on the forum. By an accident I noticed, that one reliable drug store near my house sells perfumes in small amounts. Mostly on half of the price because of damaged packaging. Between those poor bastards I found barely opened Sensuous. I felt in love with a scent immediately. It was exactly what I was searching for, when I imagined a woody fragrance, that suits me. This one is like the way I should smell, but better. I checked the official perfume stores, and their examples smelt exactly the same. So now I proudly own a small bottle of Sensuous. Just there is one small problem with this perfume - longevity. I have to refresh it after few hours. Thou sillage is great.

P.S.
Excuse me for my previous attempt to review this fragrance.

I love this, though I would not buy again. It smells like gorgeous honey and peppery amber (and normally I hate amber!). I don't smell any wood notes, although I'm sure they are the "warmth" that bind these scents together. It's definitely very classy and seductive.
The bad news is that sillage is disappointing, and so is longevity. Only I can smell it on me and only for about a couple of hours at most. And Estee calls this Eau de Parfum?! It should be Eau de Cologne at most. I think the most accurate review of this was done by zucchera!

Gorgeous scent,so warm and cosy. Love the mandarin pulp on top of creamy sandalwood. Unfortunately after an hour the sillage is zero and it stays very close to the skin. Never have I wanted a fragrance to be stronger more than I want this one to be. If the longevity and sillage was better this could have become my signature scent or definitely in my top 5 of all time. Such a shame :-( but still a beautiful scent.

I've read the previous reviews and i had such high hopes for this perfume. But unfortunately it doesn't smell good on me :-(
It reminds me of my fathers perfume. Maybe it's the sandalwood? I thought Sensuous would make me feel feminine, but it makes me feel the opposite :-/

This has incredible silage and lasts for days on my scarf and coat.

Its a perfume I get a lot of compliments about! The person doesnt even need to come too close - Someone came into my work room and commented that there was a really nice smell in the air. When she came right up to me later in the day, she realised it was me.

I find the name fits perfectly, Its soft and smooth with a delicate sweetness thats makes it very appealing to those around you.

I feel very feminine and sensual when I wear this.

Im not usually a fan of honey notes, but this is just a the right amount, blended so well with the other notes. The perfume would not be as special without it.

Body Chemistry must be really important with this scent - judging by the mixed reviews its definitely a try before you buy perfume. Lucky for me its blends with my skin really nicely :D

The name is very misleading. Nonsense name. This is a sandalwood perfume, they should name it so that that would be obvious.
For sandalwood fans, definetly, this is a most lovely honey+amber+sandalwood... and a liiitle whiff of lily.

If Nigella Lawson asked me to choose a perfume for her, I would pick this one. Sensuous is a beautiful fragrance for a beautiful woman.

This is womanly in all senses of the word, full-bodied, voluptuous and very sensual, well-balanced with a hint of spice and sweetness. Sensuous has a comforting feminine feel and a luxurious warmth, that reminds me of a mother figure (in a good way!). I felt this perfume a little too mature for me, so I want to revisit it when I, too, am a mother; however, I haven't tried it on my skin yet! I need to do that first and report back.

UPDATE: I've now tried this on my skin... and it's a lovely linear scent! Woodsy, spicy and sweet, combined with that familiar 'Estee Lauder' smell. In addition, I do find that this scent pales in comparison to other more natural smelling sandalwood scents that I've tested; that doesn't mean to say that this scent is bad, (it's not) I've just already tested some better ones. Sillage is moderate at first, that sadly fades after a couple of hours to a skin scent. The spicy projection is beautiful, though, and I wish it lasted for longer. Longevity is about 7-8 hours.

Lovely, warm, sweet, clean, spicy, woody, familiar, inviting, welcoming. I wear it every day year round and it makes me so happy. It is soft and powdery yet has a lot of staying power and depth. I love it so much! My other favorites are Liz Claiborne's Spark and the original formula Givenchy Organza Indecence, all three of which have much in common with each other.

I bought it today after spraying it on my wrist. Went out for a walk and sniffed it all the evening. I loved the top notes but after one hour there is only a sweet woody scent remaining. I went back to the store and said I don't like it anymore. Didn't ask a refund, just purchased an old perfume that I can wear everywhere. Sensuous is a strong woody santal perfume which doesn't suit me. Indeed this is a sophisticated perfume but I think this is for those who love the oriental perfumes very much.
A surprising thing is the longevity. I still can feel it on my hand after shower!!

Not very woodsy but extremely woodsy and high on the sandalwood. Some people, like my husband, do not react positively to the scent of sandalwood. I had some incense and it gave me a headache but I believed it chased away home-cooking smells. I threw out the package after hubby politely told me that he and my daughter were getting cranky from the headache induced by the incense. This perfume is sweetly woody and I love it. I wore it two days in a row to work. On the second day, one co-worker, who understands my love for perfume, asked me to "tone it down." I think it was the sandalwood that got her and I believe she has an extraordinary sensitivity to smells. I thanked her for the kind way she requested and for her honesty (noting that no one else informed me of my perfume addiction) and switched to another perfume the next day and limited to two sprays (no easy feat, I tell you!). Lesson learned: never wear this during warm weather and no more than two small sprays. Hubby has never commented positively about this fume - should have been a hint to me already.

One spray on me
Sillage: 2 to 3 feet with strong trail
Longevity: more than 8 hours
Rating: 4/5 for scent but 1/5 for bothersome sillage

Whoever loves woodsy scents will love this. It smells like fall to me.

It smells like you would wear this while wrapping yourself up in a warm blanky
Drinking hot chocolate with big marshmellows by the fireplace.
It reminds me of the holidays for some odd reason. I really like this one. I'm not a woodsy lover but you can appreciate this. On me it smells like some cheap cinnamon air freshener. It smells like the holidays on my friend. (lucky)
Body chemistry really plays a big role on how perfume will smell on you. Everyone is different, so one perfume that is own by millions can smell completely different on every person. Perfume is sooo cool.

Surprisingly, I'm in love with Sensuous nude, but not even in like with Sensuous.

On me, the scent was the equivalent of an overbearing mother-in-law, or a pushy telemarketer. I don't think I liked the pepper being in the base notes (as opposed to the top notes in sensuous nude). On me, I got sharp, bracing florals and musty, creaky, old woods. There was nothing to soften some of the heavier notes. Though I love magnolia (the flowers and the note), the magnolia in this felt like it cut my nostrils. Needless to say, I won't be wearing this again (unless I'm feeling a bit masochistic).

I really wanted to like this. Oh, well... If you need me, I'll be in the (Sensuous) Nude.

Good solid sweet but not cloying jasmine-y amber. Does the job. Not particularly interesting or unique though imo. But still, a solid and dependable player. You might not stand out in the crowd, but still, it's hard to go wrong or offend with Sensuous EDP.

I first smelled this years ago and fell in love with its woodsy warm scent and have loved it since. The top notes are jasmine, magnolia, and lily which are noticeable, but the jasmine are most noticeable to me. The middle notes are amber, wood, and ylang-ylang. The amber and wood are very distinct to me with a touch ylang-ylang. The base notes sandalwood, mandarin orange, pepper, and white honey which come out on me.

I find this a comforting and very warm. It has longevity and sillage is moderate. It will leave a small trail.

To me this is heavenly. Sensuous is what I wanted Lutens' Féminité du Bois to be. When I walk into a Lutens corner, of all the smells this is the one that I pick up in the boutique. But then when smelling it up close, there's an incensey touch to Féminité du Bois that is too strong for me. It seems that Sensuous heard my desires.

I am not good at describing notes, but here is my feeling about it. This fragrance wraps me up in a gentle cocoon, that warm cocoon feeling I was looking for and could not find in any other scent. Yes, it is sweet, but yet clean.
I cannot stop sniffing my wrists and scarf.
I've bought it only yesterday, and I feel like spraying it on pillow so that is accompanies me in my sleep...

I'll join others reviewers on the disappointment regarding the bottle. This gem deserves more than that.

Alyssa Ashley White Musk married up! This is what it smells like to me - Alyssa Ashley White Musk plus some pleasing complexity. I ordinarily put some pepper in my stepper when I'm clearing past the Estee Lauder counter - not a fan of their perfumes historically speaking. I received some Sensuous as an extra in swap, though, so I gave it a whirl. There is something really, really weird about this perfume. In a niche perfume kind of way. Like "what if we made sandalwood and honey paste and then smeared it on a piece of thick glass and stood under it and inhaled the scent on a sunny day" weird. Again, I actually really like this, perhaps because I was genuinely expecting to dislike it and so my pleasant surprise has an element of extra warmth. Speaking of warmth - this smells oddly cold to me considering how many people say it's warm and spicy. Someone else mentioned menthol, and I think it's the pink pepper.

Sensuous is in my opinion the sexiest Estee Lauder fragrance that I have ever smelt. It's a creamy, sensual and very woody fragrance but with such an enigmatic and sexy kind of warmth that I feel stupid for not having repurchased this yet (It will be my third bottle) perhaps I should go and do it right now.

On my skin this heats up really well. The Sandalwood and other woody notes are warm but they are given a creamy and sexy kind of twist. On my skin the honey and pepper are very thick as well and they sort of smother themselves all over the woods- this is when the scent heads into more masculine territory on my skin and as a guy- I really don't mind because it makes the fragrance smell very unique on me. I detect glimmers of florals at times like the magnolia and Jasmine will pop up every now and then and sort of blossom on my skin amongst all the creamy, warm woods which develop more when the amber note steps in.

Overall, I simply adore this fragrance and as I said before it is probably the sexiest and I think also the best release that Estee Lauder has put out in recent years. The Lasting power is excellent, it projects very well and the overall quality is just fantastic. Thumbs up all round for Sensuous!

i deleted my previous review because my thoughts on this scent have changed somewhat. i do like it, but i really don't find it that sensuous compared to some other scents i've tried. it is a nice scent to wear to the office, soft woody-incense with citrus, a scent family i generally like (not always with citrus) but i like something a bit more, well, sensuous.

it also smells better when i directly smell my skin, then the scent wafting up around me, which is dryer and less creamy.

I got this as a gift in a mini set of 5 Estee Lauder perfumes. At the onset, all I could smell was Sandalwood and since I come from the main land of Sandalwood, it was a complete turn-off for me! Everything out here comes in Sandalwood so for me this isn't a special note. After 5 minutes, I got the woody-peppery floral note but the sandalwood was still there. It is a nice elegant perfume, but I would just not recommend this to anyone who is from India! I love my pens and the incense in my house to smell of Sandalwood , but I draw the line at perfume. However, for anyone else, I'd say its a soft, elegant inoffensive long lasting fragrance which would suit any time of the day in any type of weather. Perfect for office wear [just please don't wear it to an office in India!]. This doesn't draw attention but makes you feel fresh and happy all the same. Overall, a good buy even for a gift. [again, I repeat, just not for Indians!]

I smelled this in perfumania and I was in love, very sandlewody and powdery, I never smelled anything like this before! Sensuous is a very beautiful oriental woody and to really enjoy it you must like woody notes because it can get a bit dry on the skin however honey and amber keep it mellow and soft.

This is yet again, another great blind buy, based on the Main Notes as voted by the many reviewers in regards to the sandalwood note. This to me, is a great scent that is sophisticated enough to go from the office and then intimately out to a nice dinner. It starts out a bit nutty-floral and then powders down to rich dreamy sandalwood. If you like woody notes, you will enjoy this!

It's Autumn/Winter here in Australia now and I keep reaching for this time and time again. I have never had so many compliments from random people as I have with this one. Something in it just works with my skin and I experience gloriously luxurious wafts of sweet balsamic fragrance drifting up to my nose all day long when I wear this. On me, this is 10/10. I wonder whether it's the magnolia/amber/woodsy notes combo that amplifies on my skin so well, because another one of my favourite scents In The Mood For Love Gianfranco Ferre also has some similar notes and works sooo well on me too :)

First word that comes in mind is feminine.
I also find it to be very sensual, as the name says, elegant and timeless.
It's a great everyday scent, but it could also be a signature scent.
I think the composition is great - sweet magnolia, woody notes and spicy undertones.
If someone is trying to be serious, but at the same time elegant and feminine, this could be the right scent.

I'm enjoying this one quite a lot. It starts out softly sweet and citric, but those notes fade away quickly as it evolves into deep, warm ambery woods. An hour into wearing it is when I felt it really come alive.

Woody fragrances can sometimes smell old-fashioned and mature(which I don't mind) but here it seems a bit more neutral and easy to wear, if that is a concern. Is Sensuous actually sensuous? I think so, but it is also a poised fragrance. Perhaps something to wear in the daytime while at night, you go for something like Baiser Volé Essence de Parfum.

At the first minutes I smell a very intensive citrus... something like bergamot or lime. I also smell some aldehydes. I got very surprised when I didnt find those notes here. The honey note is intensive and delicate at the same time.

Its a very confortable perfume and I cant imagine a teenager wearing it.

This fragrance reminds me a little bit the L de Lolita Lempicka, without all that L sweetness and with much more woodsy notes... I could say it's a L version for adults.
I like it, would wear if somebody would give me, but I am not sure I would buy it... Anyway, it's a very good made perfume, perfect for winter, fall and cold spring days.

The silage is moderate and the longevity is VERY long lasting. Up to 16 hours on my skin. (Crazy, no? oO)

Perfect warming soothing winter scent. Doesn't work for me in the summer time. Smells expensive & sophisticated and it's very comforting and has a cashmere feel to it. I own this but i never wear it because i go nowhere to wear it. I wish a man would take me out to a nice laid back restaurant with candles & cosy furnishings- as the cold winter evening unfolds outside of the window, this would be the perfect scent to wear for such an occasion. It is warm silky and cashmere feeling. Perfect for winter romance. This scent could never be said to be cheap. It put's you at ease and makes you feel quietly confident.
It is the best blended fragrance ever! All of the notes work miracles together. This fragrance could never smell chemical like or unbalanced.
I detect woodsy notes as being the basic smell of this fragrance with warming amber, vanilla & jasmine seeping through- coated with a cover of honey.

Simply put this fragrance is an understated treasure.

Brilliant lasting power at least 10 hours on me. Good strong balanced sillage. Strong but not to the point of being offensive. I cannot fault this absolute beauty. The bottle matches the scent perfectly; classy, understated & charming in an unassuming way. Also it is a very affordable fragrance 30 ml for £28. You get the highest quality of fragrance for such a reasonable price.

I give this fragrance an all round 10.

The top is very orangey, with a pleasantly bitter edge (bergamot?) and quite a bit of cinnamon. The cinnamon does make it quite spicy in the beginning. I get some kind of sweetness, although I wouldn't have been able to tell it's honey. It's a bit like thick syrup (although not too sweet) infused with woods. The sandalwood is very prominent. After a while this becomes a very clean scent, like you have taken a long relaxing bath with sandalwood-scented oils.

Sensuous is the perfect name for this.....
It's a really beautiful perfume. Estee Lauder tends to steer toward light, floral fragrances, which I find dull and common. Sensuous, like the classic fragrances of old has heart and body, and is the sort of scent I can imagine Rita Hayworth wrapping herself in. The honey note really brings out a playful vibe in the deep, sensual mix-- but it's not so heavy that it brings to mind animalic urges. Sensuous is not a lustful fragrance, nor a flirty one. It very perfectly finds a balance between the two to be just seductive enough without being overpowering. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't last as long as I would like, it melts into the skin after an hour or two, leaving only the tiniest hint of ever having existed.

Really wanted to love this, and gave it several tries. But could not shake a certain plastic doll note that overpowered all the other, more pleasant notes. So much so that I end up not even liking it.

For the feel that I hoped to get from Sensuous, I prefer Nirvana Black by Elizabeth & James. It has the sandalwood vanilla creaminess that I enjoy.

The good news, for fans of Sensuous, is the longevity is great. It lasted through a long work day.

Update - 4/21/2015
You know, I thought Sensuous was not for me, but 9 months later I re-tested my sample (mid-winter) and it works. I don't get the plastic doll note I did before, and get the honey-sandalwood. It's a serious like, and I mainly wear it around the house, and as a bedtime scent. It's nice when oversprayed. ;)

This is one of those perfumes I had placed in the "Nice category" the kind of bottles that you have sniffed a bit carelessly a few times and decided that you enjoy, simply a "like" but not a "love".

I was in for a fabulous surprise when I sprayed it on my wrist at home after receiving it in a swap.

It's AMAZING and it's way beyond the "love" category! It's a warm, super cosy, soft and creamy blend of smooth sandalwood and warm amber coated in the finest layer of golden honey.

The blend is super smooth. The scent is warm and cosy (thank you amber) and the honey provides a perfect amount of "grown up sweetness" that goes perfect with the soft spicy (pepper) note. Sensuous is such a fitting name for this beauty.

I repeatedly call it "soft" and despite that it has an impressive lasting power and sillage. There's just nothing negative to find in this perfume!

Sensuous are one of my perfumes that I consider to be the absolute BEST match on my skin ever, it's simply devine.

When I first tried Sensuous, it didn't impress me much. I love the honey notes though and I sprayed it on my hand. One hour later, I had my own bottle which never left my collection since. It is a warm, sophisticated frangrance, with an excellent balance between the sweet and the woody notes. On me, it's spicy floral honey, both light and strong. Imagine a late summer afternoon, resting on the warm grass with a good book. This is exactly how it makes me feel.
One of the coherent fragrances, that evolves, but doesn't change as the hours pass.

Estée Lauder Sensuous, when it hits the skin, seems to have quite a lot of alcohol. Once the alcohol smell dissipates after a few minutes, then comes the pleasant drydown of Sensuous and it doesn't change much afterwards. On me, it's basically honeyed sandalwood. The honey at the beginning is a little syrupy, but later melts beautifully into the woods and further contrasts with the dry woody aspect. I also find that, on me, spraying seems bring out a little more the sharpness of woods than dabbing.

Sensuous lasts at least 9 hours on me and wears close to the skin. Although the honey is quite prominent in this composition, the sheerness prevents it being cloying. Sensuous is really an uncomplicated sweet woody skin scent, but not to the point of being bland and boring. It's a comfortable everyday scent which doesn't distract you from your errands. One may not need a ton of this kind of easy-breezy scents, but if you happen to be looking for one, Sensuous is a relatively affordable option.

I had high hopes for Sensuous by EL but it went extremely sour on my skin. I wanted to see which was best for me of Sensuous or Sensuous Nude, but I was scared off when my wrist smelled like a combination of mudd and sour woods. Maybe the tester bottle had gone bad (by lighting and warmth in the store) but since it didn't smell good on me, I didn't dare to buy a bottle without trying it first. Too bad, as I've read great reviews for this. Lucky you if this works for you, I wish it did the same for me.

Another perfect love for me! Woods, pepper, honey, and magnolia. For the first few hours I do get a lot of syrupy amber out of this, and heavy amber isn't really my favorite, but it works here. The longevity and sillage are stellar. After a couple of hours it develops into a "like skin, but better" sort of scent on me. It's definitely more of a winter fragrance with all the warm notes, but I'll be wearing it through the spring and fall as well regardless. The amber might be a bit much for hot weather though. This is soft and feminine without being fruity, fairly ageless, and the bottle is cute! I'm glad to finally have it in my collection. I might have to get a bottle for my mother as well!
EDIT: My boyfriend has smelled this on me once and keeps mentioning it and asking when I'm going to wear it again, which hardly ever happens! He says it smells like "Christmas and sandalwood." Definite bonus :)

A pleasant surprise from Estee Lauder! I am not a massive fan of their fragrances – a lot of them feel a little bland and cold, but I really enjoy the entire Sensuous line. It is very different from the usual perfumes offered by this brand. If you are not into gourmands, this is probably one of the best choices for winter, although it is versatile enough to be worn all year round.

Very warm, rich and sensual, this composition is based primarily on balsamic and woodsy accords, such as sandalwood, amber and incense. The sandalwood in this is very well done – it feels soft and creamy, rather than dry and dusty. It's sweetened with rich, soothing honey and spiced up with white pepper. I really like how another reviewer on here described this scent as 'edible wood' – I think it's quite fitting! It must be the honey and amber that make this woodsy composition so balsamic and delicious, but without turning it into a gourmand scent. I am also picking up on a few floral accents, including jasmine and magnolia, which brighten up the heart of this composition, and give it a little soapiness. It's a perfect balance of well blended notes, which develop nicely around the key sandalwood accord, and give it incredible depth and complexity.

I think that 'Sensuous' is a very fitting name for this fragrance – it is indeed very sensual, silky, and intimate...Despite the powerful notes, it isn't too heavy or overwhelming – in fact, it feels quite light, it's easy to wear and sits quite close to skin. It's something that I'd imagine wearing on a special, romantic night in... But I think that the comforting qualities of this perfume make it a perfect bedtime scent for winter, when you can just let it embrace you in its warmth :) Definitely a keeper!

This grew on me too. I didn't realise how amazing it was when I first tried it a few years ago at its release. Well now I LOVE IT.
Classy, long lasting and TOTALLY delicious... if you like warm, spicy with sweetness.

When I was a girl, my Mother hated all Estee Lauder scents. She told me how head-ache inducing and terrible they were, so I stayed away (though she wore Anais Anais and Tiffany all the time, scents which I would consider to be nearly the same as EL Beautiful, but I digress...) So when I got a carded sample of Sensuous I expected nothing. To my surprise, Sensuous smells like nothing else in my collection. On my skin it's all sandalwood, vanilla, amber, and incense. I know there are floral notes listed, but I get none. I wear a lot of oriental and spicy perfumes, and this is something different - it's somehow both creamy and sharp at the same time. I love it. I do wish that both sillage and lasting power were better - this is a skin scent and nothing else.

I wore this in a summer. My friend told me that I've smelled like a summer version of Chanel Chance. That was a compliment especially coming from her, because she wears nothing but Chance all the time. Even though I liked this one, I gave her my bottle, just so she could take a chance and tried something different. She was delighted and she wore it the whole summer.

I really don't know whether I like or dislike this edp. Quite different from classical EL perfume line. It really takes time to get used to and like it. Sometimes its woody items makes me feel sick, nausea and a litle bit headache. Pepper inside the perfume makes me cough allergically but after getting used to it, it lessened. I do not think, I'll purchase again.

I was hoping to love this since so many others do and the notes sounded lovely. But, unfortunately, this scent did not agree with my skin chemistry. I got a whiff of something warm and nice and then it all turned to a chemical scent of some kind of cleaning fluid or, more accurately, the smell of a gasoline additive to make one's car run better. It did not improve with time. Rats! Another scrubber on my skin. I have smelled this scent on others and it smelled good on them so I'll enjoy it that way.

Really like this comfort scent-love is a strong word. Perfect snuggling scent for a fall/winter weekend, not too loud. I would probably not wear to work, although you could-this just makes me think of coming home from work and letting it all hang out. I purchased 8 samples, I think they are one ml, so I don't know if I will be getting an FB after that, or would I just get 8 more samples. Really like it but I have loads of perfumes.

I'm relatively new to Sensuous but I'm enjoying it enormously. Its warmth lends it an air of comfort but unlike many comfort scents, Sensuous is not dominated by food notes. The creamy sweetness and smoothness in Sensuous is derived from amber, sandalwood and honey, not vanilla or sticky berries (the latter being the usual trend these days of course).

Sensuous also extremely versatile; it probably wears best in cooler weather but I think you could wear it in the summer except perhaps on the very hottest days. Office, church, first date, meeting the new in-laws: it won't let you down. If you want something bold or edgy you may want to look elsewhere though.

Liz Hurley remarks in the video ad that Sensuous suggest a certain 'gentleness of spirit' and to me that is a lovely way to describe Sensuous.

A very nice, unobtrusive, sandalwood scent. Creamy and almost figgy smelling sandalwood with a bit of amber. Linear and mellow with minimal projection and average longevity. Overall I would call this an understated, pretty perfume.

Didn't like this, I had a migraine. It was sickeningly sweet and woody at the same time, and sillage was overwhelming. Smelled like old grandmother to me, nothing sensuous about it although it is a very distinctive smell... No.

I love sandalwood, and have tried spritzs of Sensuous at the store; thanks to a fellow Fragrantican, I have a decanted vial to sample and treasure. I’m gun-shy of EL fragrances, as there is something in them that disagrees with me, but Sensuous has no such effect.

Sensuous is an amazing sandalwood, a tiny bit sweet from the honey and with a richness that is almost smoky. There is something that “catches” in the back of my throat, with that animalic muskiness of a spoonful of real honey; I would almost describe it as powdery, but only because of the sensation not because it is a powdery scent. While it’s a very realistic honey scent, the honey doesn’t make this a syrupy sweet mess of a perfume; it is deep and truly sensual. I wonder if part of that “catch” that I get is from the pepper; it’s spicy, but not gourmand-baked-goods spicy and not peppery enough to make you sneeze, but rich.

When I inhale deeply, I do get a sense of the floral notes but one would never describe this as a floral fragrance; the jasmine, lily and magnolia add lightness, not “floweryness”. Before rechecking the notes, I got a distinct impression of orange zest, which must be the mandarin orange listed—I find it to add a bit of sparkle and brightness, even a holiday flare, which gives even more character and depth to this fragrance.

This is a wonderful, rich, truly sensual sandalwood centric fragrance. Sillage is fair, longevity unproven on my skin today (although past sample sprays have lasted for days on clothing). It is unique and distinctive, noticeable but not loud; it is comforting and sensual, perfect for a cool, rainy day or any time you might need to wrap yourself in a warm fragrance. I think this one is moving up on my “want” list!

not sure it´s a `´sensual `´ fragrance . define sensual . a woman is sensual in various moments , she could be working out , playing w/ her kids , dancing for her man , she could be wearing any given fragrance or none at all, u know that , `´ i´ve just bathed heavenly scent , don´t ya ? `´
this one , i love, as well as nude and noir . noir being extremely grown up , womanly . sensuous is a pleasure to wear . wearing a scent that suits ur mood is darn sensual to me .

We have a different and subjective definition of what "Sensuous" is. For me if "Sensuous" would be bottled it wont smell like this.

Dont get me wrong this is a pleasant fragrance but sadly it only ends up short (for me) as pleasant. I love sandalwood so this fragrance was on the pick for a must try. Sadly, the sandalwood they used is the "light" variety compared to the "dark and deep" ones. If they did choose the darker sandalwood perhaps it would have been a whole different scent. Perhaps it would be "Sensuous" in a bottle.

In general the light mix of sandalwood, honey and mandarin orange makes this long lasting fragrance a "Cozy" potion great for all season.

say what you like about estee lauder fragrances, but you do generally get bang for your buck. my pores soak up most fragrances, but sensuous can usually get me through a 10-hour day (although by the end of it i need to stick my nose to my wrist to smell anything).

this fragrance is not a game-changer, but it's extremely pleasant, with an addictive syrupy-sweetness that's great in colder weather. the woods are warm and enveloping, like an embrace, and the spiciness of the lily pairs well with the other spicy accords. all in all, very comfortable to wear, like an oversized button-up.

This is a very gentle scent that stays very close to the skin. Not much silage, but still noticeable when someone leans in. I found it perfect for summer -- light, sweet, and non-irritating. I like this. I smell mildly spiced, honeyed woods. It smells like a comforting fall scent. It's probably the sexiest of my comfort scents, bc of spice and the honey. I don't know if I'd buy a full bottle or save my money and keep getting samples from SAs or eBay. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is next on my full bottle list.

Some of you said in the rewievs, that this scent smells like an expensive soap. I can't agree more! Not those kind of aldehidic soap smells, more like a really expensive, woody fragranced soap. Clean smell, beautiful and comforting, but not sexy to me. This is a classic everyday scent, not too strong, but not weak either. Longetivity is great, too.
On me, it is only sandalwood with some sweetness, nothing else, but I like it.

This is an unusual fragrance. It's strangely comforting. It's mildly spicy and sweetly, but not too sweetly alluring. However I can't escape the feeling that I must be covered in sawdust.

When I was a child, my Dad did a lot of woodworking and the woody notes in this scent don't remind me of a forest or old furniture. They remind me of freshly sawed wood, as in a walk through a lumber mill. It's not a repellent smell, but I don't think that aspect of the scent is what I want to smell like. It does bring back nice memories of watching my Dad work. That's probably why I find the scent comforting. This scent will last 12+ hours on me.

A great challenge to describe a perfume I have worn and loved for years. Before I began collecting, or could even describe notes, I loved this stuff. To me it is warmth come alive! Everything about this speaks of heat and warmth. It opens with a blast of pepper and ginger, spicy at first. Then the sandalwood floods in, a woody but creamy heart. This is not fresh cut wood, but wood that has been lovingly shaped and polished. A civilized wood. As it develops, the amber warms it up even more and its toasty accord is smoothed out with addition of sweet honey. There are some florals that play hide and seek throughout the development of the fragrance, but they are not major players. They do impart some femininity and lightness to the composition.

I love Sensuous and the feeling it gives of being warm and cozy. It does have a tendency to sit closer to the skin than others, but the longevity is good. I don't mind it not having crazy sillage as I tend to prefer scents that sit a little closer to the skin. Those who love lots of sillage may be disappointed. But I am not disappointed with this fragrance at all. One of my favorites for sure.

at first spray it smelled really woodsy. then overtime it smells sweet like honey. its too much honey for me personally. honey to me can sometimes have a bit of bite to it and that is exactly present in this fragrance, the honey smells real and not artificial. this fragrance makes me think of a cabin in the woods in winter. roasting marshmellows by a fire. one could wear this to work, its mellow and not at all offensive. i think its a pretty safe scent.

8 hours later and its mellow, but still there. my husband thinks it is an average scent. he doesnt hate it or love it.

I really love the sandalwood dominated drydown on skin - it's close to perfect. But unfortunately the first 5 hours has too much honey for my taste.
It has a very good longevity, I tested it on my arm in the early afternoon - and the next day the lovely sandalwood was still there.

Update Sept 10 2013:
I tested it again, but this time only on paper, not skin. It was fresher, softer, still sweet, but not like cloying honey as on my skin. And it was more linear, and unfortunately the sandalwood was less present in the dry down. Interesting. So this fragrance can be VERY different if sprayed on clothes and hair vs. on skin...

Like the hot wood in a dry sauna combined with honey colored beeswax candles. This is a very "dry" smell to me, very much like the dry leaves that begin to swirl on the sidewalk in early fall. I feel a little warmer when I wear it, as if my skin has been baking in the sun all day. Sensuous is aptly named, as there is a skin quality to it that smoothes out any rough edges the wood notes might have had. A great way to carry the day's heat over into a cooler evening. This perfume dances between spicy and sweet and spends most of it's time in this mellow mid zone. It's a soft smell guaranteed to enhance the personality of the wearer, rather than grabbing the spotlight for itself.

Sensuous is a gorgeous creamy sandalwood, amber, and honey scent on my skin. I find it to be very cozy and comforting. Its slightly peppery which gives it a little more depth. The only floral note I pick up in Sensuous is the lily and it compliments all the notes perfectly. It has a strong sillage at first but eventually settles down into a lovely skin scent. Sensuous is a delightful fragrance which I think can be worn all year long.

I have sampled this fragrance but never was compelled to actually purchase it. Why? Hmmmmm, I really can't put my finger on it - but it didn't hit the same chord or mark that Estee Lauder's Beautiful, Knowing, or Spellbound hits.

It has a strong sandalwood note which seems to carry the fragrance. But beyond that, I really didn't feel that the entire chord of the fragrance was authentically unusual to really state a "personality" - or to elicit any type of mood or feeling.

Perhaps it was just my chemistry. It really didn't do much for me - or on me. I seem to prefer deeper fragrances with more of a complexity of ingredient chords... so try this if you like more simple structures.

You know when you were little and you were staying at a friends house whose parents smoked, and then upon returning back home to your non-smoking parents at the end of the day the first thing they´d do was give you a bath to get rid of that nasty cigarette smell in your hair. Well, that's what this perfume reminds me of. It smells of nasty cigarettes somehow. And who would want that?? Certainly not me at least. To me this was a scrub worthy scent that needed to be washed off with some clean soap.

I believe I may have found my signature scent but it is too soon to tell because this perfume keeps tirelessly morphing away! The first time I put this on my skin, I went "OMG, CANDIED PLASTIC DOLL! I'M IN LOVE!" I never knew such an olfactory experience could exist until I sniffed this. It's like being served a plate of plastic doll with a faint sprinkling of sugar to give it a sweet edge but it is not a sugar fest by any means. I almost bought it on the spot but luckily restrained myself because after an hour on my skin, it morphed into vague water color floral akin to Byredo Gypsy Water, actually very identical to it.

The second time I put it on, it gave me my beloved candied plastic doll scent all the way to the dry down with woods thrown in!! <3 <3 <3 Sensuous!

ETA: I have since tried other sandalwood blends and have realized that the beloved scent that I describe as "plastic doll" is unique to sandalwood oils. It has been beautifully represented in Sensuous. I'm still enamoured by this beautiful fragrance!

FYI, the only difference between this EDP and the pure parfum is that the later lasts much longer. This EDP is also long lasting so you can't go wrong either ways :)

I wouldn't call it first of all "woody", I would rather place it in the category "Intimate Boudoir" (and then "Woody").
Makes me think about the 1001 (Arabian) nights, about those tales and about what happened after them...
Sensual, warm, a bit exotic ( the coconut)and inviting. I smell honey and lily. First I hesitated to try it because I don't like the lily scent in perfumes ( well I like how the flower looks but I don't like how it smells), but I really appreciated this scent. There is something sexually exciting in this...

For the first half hour or so, this reminds me of Samsara EDT by Guerlain..but slightly sweeter. It then morphs into what smells more like Guerlain L'Instant EDP. I love both so it is not a bad thing at all. I certainly don't mind smelling like either of these for half the price. I'm kind of upset it took me so long to discover this scent. I use Estée Lauder eye and facial moisturizers/serums and they're a company that loves to send samples and recently this one arrived in the mail. It is definitely another product I will continue to purchase from this brand.

It is a true sandalwood scent. It is so comforting, warm, and the word Sensuous suits it perfectly.

I can't believe it it took me so long to realize this scent totally suits what I was looking for in a fragrance. It centers around sandalwood, but not the "in your face" pungent smell from a badly diluted essential oil. This sandalwood is smooth, soft and creamy. Combined with the other notes of spicy pepper, juicy mandarin, golden amber and sweet honey, this fragrance just wraps you in a cloud of warmth. I am one who does not like gourmand fragrances like "La Vie Est Belle, Thierry Mugler Angel" as I find them sickly sweet and cloying. This fragrance is not sweet like the oriental gourmands, yet it still manages to be a very balanced blend of woods, florals and fruit. Very similar to a scent by Banana Republic called "Rosewood". The overall sillage of this fragrance is not excessive. When you first spray, it is very strong, but soon after dies down to nothing but a "your skin but better" fragrance with a sheerness to it that is delicate and unexpected!
I cannot really smell the lily, magnolia or ylang ylang, although the florals add creaminess to the overall composition.

This is my olfactory equivalent of being wrapped in a cashmere shawl, by the fireplace, sipping some wine while its raining and pouring outside. Its smooth, its warm, it makes you feel good, it says "snuggle up, you know you want to".

Normally I wear the older Lauder fragrances---Youth Dew, Cinnabar, and Spellbound. But one day a woman customer came in my workplace and she smelled so good. Something about her scent really reminded me of a Lauder fragrance, and she told me it was the (then)new Sensuous.

I've been wanting to own it for a while. It is really sexy and warm. Soft without being one of those wimpy "nothing" scents. This week is Gift week at the Lauder counter here, and I thought I'd finally treat myself to another perfume. I bought the BIG bottle so I wouldn't have to be saving with it, and I'm so glad I did.

Oh dear. There are some sandalwood perfumes that I just don't get on with. Not all of them, just some. This, sadly, is one of them. To my nose it reads lily + sandalwood and not much else. And what amber there is strikes me as ambergris not yellow amber, but I could (quite likely) be wrong about that.

Sensuous is a creamy, sweet, velvety sandalwood fragrance. I was looking for something to replace Samsara, because it has been reformulated and is not as smooth and lush as it used to be (and also because it's a bit too heavy for me these days). This is a gorgeous alternative!

Sensuous is relatively linear -- the sandalwood, honey, Jasmine, and rich amber remain prominent throughout wear. There is something almost edible about Sensuous: the honey and amber are just plain YUMMY, for lack of a better word :)

It is a perfect scent for Fall and winter: so sensual and warm. It's a true comfort scent. Now, I'm excited to try Sensuous Nude and Sensuous Noir!

P.S. Thanks to all of the lovely Fragranticans who recommended Sensuous to me on the discussion board. I am forever grateful.

I've been prowling around the Sensuous line for about a month, having the luxury of an Estee Lauder outlet store across the path from the store where I work. I finally bought myself the gift set of Sensuous (eau de parfum) because it's the best all-rounder of the line, in my opinion.

Scent does not last well on me, but Sensuous does--all you scent-eaters out there! The opening notes are definitely sweet: I especially pick up lily, not like a sickening Stargazer lily, just soft, old-school lily.

Then there is a strange point in the drydown where the scent almost disappears on me! Has this ever happened to you? I think the mid-note interplay of amber and ylang-ylang just develops very gently on my skin. Then after a few minutes the warmth rises and honey comes in very sweetly. My skin pulls honey like crazy, and even "makes" honey where there isn't any!

As the sweetness fades, the sandwalwood enters slowly and gracefully. I find it to be quite feminine, because it's so softened.

I don't smell any citrus at all. On me, the sandwalwood and pepper predominate the drydown as the honey fades. Which is interesting, because I find the conclusion of the scent is not "bedsheet-sensual" at all, but actually one of the most "spiritual-sensual" in my small collection of fragrance.

As I was driving last night, "incense" kept popping into my head. When I was younger, "incense" was something I burned to cover other smells. ;) Now that I'm older, incense reminds of mass, and the swaying of the censer. Which is not to say I can't see a lover wanting to snuggle up to this, either! It is a sweet, incens-y finish, and one I'm just as happy to wear for myself. It helps me feel calm, intelligent, and warm-hearted.

What else to add to an already well reviewed, well known perfume other than I think it was a lovely honeyed lily-sandalwood scent, long lasting enough but a little too well behaved and politically correct. To my nose the dry down was very similar to Ellen Tracy, which I find bolder, more oriental and longer lasting. Also cheaper.

Sensuous is the most gorgeous honeyed sandalwood-amber on my skin. Wearing it, I close my eyes and imagine the intermingling of sap and resin running from a tree. It gives me the sense that I've been rolling around on moss (far sexier than a bed of flower petals, to my nose/eyes!) I feel sexy, seductive and oh so sensual wearing this fragrance. It's quick on its way to becoming a delicious signature.

LOVE! I got it in a gift set from my parents along with Beautiful Love, Pure White Linen, Pleasures, and Beyond paradise - and (Because I'm quite new to the fragrance scene, getting more & more addicted) this one stood right out to me because I've realised that I love smoother, warmer more musky notes and scents that smell delicious!

It smells a lot like subtle sandle wood with spices and has a lovely musky warmth to it - rather than a sharp florally citrusy one which I'm trying to stay clear of!

This perfume was given to me as a Christmas present, I problably wouldn't have bought it for myself. But thank God they did! It was love at first smell :) It's extremely feminine and luxurious without being pretentious. Sweet and woody though it can be a bit overwhelming if you’re not careful with the amount you spray on. It’s one of the few “heavy” fragrances I really like. Unfortunately it triggers my migraines so I can only wear it when I’m feeling perfectly ok (which is not often). However, that is not a reflection on the quality of the perfume.

The newest member of my perfume family. I bought it recently after finding it on a great post new-year sale. It is simple and clean with just a little bit of sophistication and layering. Exactly this makes it not smelling like a cheap or usual celebrity fragrance. Silage is very soft, lasting power about 4 hours. Well, not my all time favourite fragrance, but a really pleasant everyday scent.

This is one of my current favourite scents and one I would definitely buy again once the current bottle is finished.

I am usually drawn to fragrances which contain amber and since this is one of the predominant notes in this perfume I really enjoy it on my skin. I also feel very strongly the pepper and honey, along with the dark, woody tone. This is an exquisite combination. I have to admit that though indicated in the fragrance pyramid I definitely can't sense any of the floral top notes - jasmine, magnolia or lily. Upon first spray the honey and amber are predominant, and upon drydown the woody and pepper tones become more noticeable and "darken" the initial sweet impression. I can feel a pint of ylang-ylang as well and the scent, though heavy has a subtle freshness to it due to the base citrusy note.

The eau de parfum variation of the scent on me lasts around 6 hours and has moderate sillage, noticeable upon close contact or when in close proximity like a car or on the same table. Clothes do not get soaked with the aroma and it is faintly felt on fabrics in general.

I have received compliments for this fragrance, and it can definately be classified as heavy and sweet, though not intrusive. Personally I wear it casually as I love to feel sexy and chic - this is the mood it sets me in. A word of caution - do not spray a lot of the fragrance on if you are hungry - although I cannot feel the jasmine consciously, my stomach definitely does and in case of larger quantity it can become nauseating. This happened to me once when I went too far with spraying (more than fifteen times). This said - do not overdo it to gain better longevity or sillage - it will just make you sick ;).

I just recently discovered "Sensuous", and I can't believe it took me so long to run into it! Sensuous is one of those perfumes that really lives up to its name. On my skin I smell smooth, light (barely there) florals enveloped in a warm sandalwood embrace with just a drop of honey to sweeten the mix. There is a hint of steamy-ness from the molten woods (such a unique note, and I can really smell it!). Eventually the heady mix softens to the point where to me it is almost purely sandalwood. WOW!! This fragrance is feminine seduction at its finest in my personal opinion. I couldn't stop smelling my wrist where I had sprayed Sensuous. As long as it isn't overapplied it isn't overwhelming, but it is noticable enough that if smelled in close proximity it is bound to bring the smeller closer. It is funny - my DH never comments on my perfumes, and I honestly believe there are times he doesn't even notice them at all, but when I was wearing Sensuous he was suddenly much more affectionate!

LOVE this fragrance!!

Funny, I love cedar and sandalwood, and there's no cedar in this, but I get a very distinct "hamster cage" vibe that I've never gotten with other woody perfumes I've tried. Must be the pepper combining with the wood to give me that feeling. The flowers start to come through more in the heart of the fragrance. This could make a good substitute for Le Labo's Chant de Bois when I finish off that bottle. I wish there were more of a powdery or creamy finish to it though - if it had that, and maybe less pepper and no lily note, this would be a contender for a favorite for me. As is, though, it's better than average, and at least it's not another trendy fruity monstrosity passed off as "sexy".

At first sniff, this evokes an image of a warm sensual night, and a woman and a man making love on soft satin sheets...it is indeed very sensual.A light, woody scent with a slight tinge of citrus and sweetness to it. Sillage is very soft(at least on me) as it is certainly something one could only enjoy by close physical contact. Elegantly composed yet very nondescript, and could pass for a unisex fragrance. This is what I usually pick up when I feel like wearing a fragrance yet don't know exactly which one to pick. It's a very comforting, inoffensive scent and it is my choice of an everyday fragrance. However, one might consider spraying it on one's clothes to obtain significant longevity.

Bottle is very simple yet elegant, and I love the way it rests on my hands when I picked it up. The bronze color that dominates the design evokes the idea of a sun-kissed skin, shimerring under a soft moonlight glow. This is my first perfume by the house of Estee Lauder, and I am very pleased with it. Can't wait to try a few notable ones such as the ever popular Pleasures. I know it smells great but never knew if it could work the same way on me. Crossing my fingers on that one...=)

I smelled the testing strip in the store and it smelled so deliciously spicey, coconuty, soft and mildly sweet. I fell in love with it immediately. I got it home, sprayed it on me and wow! It was great. However, an hour later I didn't care for the smell on me. Don't know if it was just me or if it really smelled that sour. I do like the light youthful smell I get when I first put it on. I will layer it with some vanilla and hope for the best. I do prefer "vanilla" in my perfumes anyway and this one doesn't have it. I do think it's worth trying because it's a nice scent and maybe just not working with my body chemistry.

Great lasting power. Unusual. Sexy but not
Overtly or predictably so. I smell spicy cinnamon. I get vanilla.
I get the spicy 'wood' in a kind of christmassy cooking smell way.
I understand the honey but not because i can smell
It as an individual note, more so because there
Is something sweet that mellows out the balmy
Wood. Worth a smell if you fancy something spicy and
Long lasting. Yes, cud b unisex.

Soft, musky, dry. The drydown is softer and more sensual still. This one gets better and better with time. Full on musk and sandalwood. Close to the skin, sexy scent. Beautiful! This is like Samsara stripped of powderiness, and sweetened with just a faint whiff of delicious honey. It smells like skin should in hyper-reality (if you were a gorgeous doomed heroine in Suskind's "Perfume" drawing someone in with the scent of your smooth, clean skin).

The balmy floral-tinged top notes remind me of Bvlgari's Jasmin Noir, but Sensuous becomes much dryer and pronouncedly woody as it develops. It's neither dark and smoldering, nor bright and cheerful, but something gently luminous in-between.

The first time I wore this, my fiance, who is used to me wearing a different fragrance every day, proclaimed, "What is THAT you are wearing??? I love it!" It was the strongest reaction that I got from him about a perfume. Sensuous is not as deep or rich as the perfumes I usually like, it is a skin scent with more of a dry, wispy, "papery" quality about it. I get wood/papyrus notes in the beginning, and it dries down to something ambery and just so slightly honeyed and sweet. I find it to be an incredible aphrodisiac.

The kind of woman I imagine wearing Sensuous is a beautiful woman in her late 30s or early 40s wearing a cream-colored silky negligee who wakes up from underneath her down comforter, her long, blonde hair tousled and her eye makeup slightly smudged. A bouquet of lilies from her lover is next to her bed. Her skin is warm to the touch and dewy, as if she has finished a round of lovemaking. Sensuous is the smell of her skin, the smell of a woman.

Mmmmmmm...What an interesting scent. When I first sprayed this all I got was sandalwood. Wait 20 minutes and it starts to develop into this beautiful smokey and creamy sandalwood, amber & honey scent with jasmine & magnolia dancing ever so lightly in the background.

This is such an understated sexy fragrance. This could easily be worn with jeans and a white tee or a beautiful cashmere turtleneck sweater and leggings. This is not gourmand or fruity. This is a gorgeous woodsy & amber scent with just a floral hint in the background.

This is what I always want my skin to smell like. Perfect for the fall and winter!!! Warm, cozy & inviting. This just whispers ever so softly "Come closer". If you want a loud sexy fragrance try Sensuous Noir (which I crazy love for different reasons) but for something soft & sexy this is a sure bet!!!

So this should be Samsara's heritage?
mmm... not so really. Basically all scents that features an accord between strong wood and jasmine reminds Samsara, but it's not Samsara or what it used to be.
Anyway I tried both Sensuous and Sensuous Noir and I must say that I quite appreciate both! They share maybe a common core (and similar to Samsara core), but they are different.
Sensuous is a lively sensual woody scent with a good woody note that "might" be sandalwood. It actually smells much better than sandalwood in current Samsara.
Around this exotic yet dry note there is a concert of sweet floral notes and vanillic notes that makes Sensuous a modern, feminine, sexy scent with no vulgarity.
It is warm enough for autumn/winter and not too one-dimensioned, which is a rarity in recent perfumery.
The only minus in S. is the lack of very airy/citrus/fresh impact but it's part of the type of perfume. It will go fine with daywear especially with a formal outfit or better in bigger amounts with evening-out dress and heels, quite classic. It does have a vaguely cheap edge, but "cheap" in my perfume-language means something that lack the wow-enveloping effect factor and finesse of raw material. Sensuos is not a cheap perfume in anyway but the wow-factor for me is not present here.
It's longlasting and it keeps changing slightly every 5 minutes (or is it my nose?). A good perfume choice in any case.

Well, I think, EL was "inspired" by Guerlain's Samsara... S. reminds me of it a lot. It's always disappointing when new popular fragrances copy the oldies. With all that said, I'd add that S. is definitely more wearable and modern than Samsara. And we need the Woody/Unsweetened perfumes these days.:) Also (it's just my personal preference) it's great that this frangrance is not based on musk - another "different" feature that makes it worth trying. Plus the EL quality: longevity and sillage are reliable. So, S. is Samsara wearing a modern outfit.

Sensuous grew on me after the first thirty minutes of spraying it. The initial spray wasn't the best impression, considering I felt the honey was to overwhelming. A gift from my husband, SENSUOUS is an appealing balance of sweetness and warmth. The beautiful blend of sweet honey, rich amber and balmy woody notes are the strongest notes I detect on my skin. It dried down still sweet with a hint of pepper and wood maintaining that intoxicating quality.

I just love how the notes work together so well creating a scent that has depth and character. And while some fragrances don't smell like they are named, SENSUOUS is undeniably sensual. A long-lasting scent that is both warm and inviting.

This perfume makes me think of 2 words: warm and soft... skin, that is! When I first smelled it as a sample, this somehow reminded me of my boyfriend's scent. If you take a look at my likes and dislikes, you'll see that I don't like super warm scents most of the time (ironically, very cool scents irritate me as well, so I linger in this vague gray area in-between). When you first spray this, it starts out a tad flowery, sweet but warm. The florals are very very elusive, and most of what I got out of this was amber, sandalwood, and pepper. There was something else that I couldn't put my finger on... and I'm guessing that it was the honey.

This scent does stay close to the skin once it has faded, and it smells nice there. Like I said, it smells warm and soft. And it lasts for a while, too. One spray in the early afternoon stuck with me until my morning shower the next day.

Unfortunately, this doesn't suit me very well. I have a tiny bottle that came as part of a gift, so I will probably be keeping it for those nights when I want to feel a little sexier.

Sensuous Noir is atop my list of favorite scents, so why does Sensuous smell so medicinal on me?? It does mellow down, but only to a damp woodsy earthy scent and very faint. May have to revisit, not ready to give up on it yet, but not a seasonal win for me......

Edit: It took the warmer weather for this to develop the way I had initially imagined! Warm, woody, sweet. The medicinal quality is no where near what I experienced several weeks ago....

This is one of my favorite perfumes that I own at the moment. It's womanly and feminine without being floral and heavy. Its honeyed sandalwood is what makes it so appealing and sensual... Which I guess is why it's called sensuous :D.

This fragrance isn't bombastic, nor is it shy. It's sneaky. It creeps up into the nostrils rather than flooding into them. It lays so well on the skin, which I think is one of the best qualities for a fragrance to have. It's not synthetic-smelling. It smells so natural and sexy. I've gotten nothing but compliments on this one.

I will say, if you are the type to gravitate toward laundry scents or fruity florals, this one might not be for you. It's for a woman who owns her sexuality, but doesn't flaunt it. It's classically sexy.

For a modern perfume I actually quite like this scent; it's got a few unique aspects like mixing in the sharp scent of pepper with the creamy scent of honey. I am proud of Estee Lauder for finally coming out with something that doesn't make me smell like a baked good, where many new modern 'spicy, woodsy' perfumes do; it's actually fairly sophisticated and surprisingly complex.
If you like unique and spicy fragrances that dry down to a truly lovely warm, almost skin musk; then you should certainly give this a try.

I'm surprised that Sensuous has been voted here as predominantly sandalwood-honey scent, as I, personally, find it to be more "lily" fragrance. It's a woody lily, with a touch of honey; sandalwood seems to play a supporting role, adding the "milkiness" quality to the scent.
Overall, Sensuous is not bad, a bit heavy-handed (as many of EL seem to be), good for winter/colder days.

I am in love! While grieving for an other scent that was taken off the market I luckily found a similar scent like Annam by Tan Giudicelli that I loved over all perfumes: bitter and sweet and woody and very cozy. Sensuous is very related to Annam.

There are fragrances that smell like fruit lollipop (Escada Taj sunset)
Fragrances that smell like clean laundry (Infusion d'Iris)
Fragrances that smell like a flower garden (Beautiful Love) etc...
For me Sensuous smells like a woman. A young and confident woman. Not aggressive and impressive like Black Orchid - which I admire but can't handle right now, but friendly and down to earth instead.
It's a very cozy and radiant skin scent. Subtle but still noticeable.
Flowers are in the background, contribute to the whole composition and let the wood, sandalwood, amber, pepper take the first place. Honey brings everything together and softens the overall impression which is by no means cloying. Mandarin orange adds a touch of freshness. Everything blends seamlessly, very well done... On me it doesn't really change as time goes by but still, it's too interesting to get bored.
It does take quite a few sprays for decent silage but longevity is rather good. I tend to wear this when the weather is a bit cold for nights out and it's never too much...

Edit: Now that fall is coming I'm really looking forward to wear sensuous again. The first time I smelt it I thought ''Oh, that's what I would like my scarves to smell: warm, cozy, but not too sweet or overwhelming, perfect!''
It's in the same vein as L'instant de Guerlain but the later ends up a tad cloying on me.
Perfumes come and go but Sensuous is a personal staple.

I have tried wearing Sensuous many times, but it seems to wear me. My wee nephews have told me twice while wearing it, that I smell like a candle. Now to them that was not an insult or a complement, just a fact. Of course, they have told me with Montale's Sweet Oriental Dream, I smell like cake. Put in the simpliest terms, candles and cake are really nice smells, but are they really what a woman desires to convey as her fragrance wafts across the room?

The picture of it is pretty and has appeal, but the scent itself not so much. I found it to be very powdery smelling and quite strong. I don't know, I tend to be picky with scents, but being 22 years old I did not think it was suitable for someone youthful.

'American Elegance' in a bottle. I just picture the kind of Ralph Lauren model, caramel blonde women with "legs up to here" in caramel cashmere coats lounging by a stone fireplace burning with precious woods cozing up with a vast span of luxurious wool throw. Beautiful delicately soft woods made addictive with sweet amber. It's one of my favorites that gets overlooked but whenever I wear it I'm so amazed. Also, relatively cheap at the EL counter! Bonus.

It's a nice woody smell with a touch of honey. I got mostly wood/sandalwood, honey was very subtle for me. It's nice but I don't think it's too distinctive, even for a skin scent. Sensuous Noir is more my style, Sensuous Noir has something new to bring to the table..

This is a nice smelling Fragrance but I don't think it smells very "Sensuous"...Its more of a warm calm scent. I would not peg this in the whole sexy scent category at all. I think the honey in this fragrance makes it a more innocent scent. I would expect an older lady to wear this perfume. After awhile of it being on my skin ,it gave me a slight headache actually so maybe its just my skin Chemistry.
I think this would smell beautiful on a person more suited to it but its not something I'd rush out and buy though.

I share an unrequited love of this fragrance. I love it but it doesn't love me. It just doesn't agree with my skin chemistry. I think it's the honey that doesn't like me, but I digress. Out of the bottle it's a beautiful woody composition accented with gorgeous sandalwood, jasmine and honey. Very feminine and comforting with a VERY subtle hint of spice. It's sexy!

unbelievable. Found the scent being classy, making me feel VEEERY feminine, not too sweet, not to woody, not too aggressive but very characteristic and at once, not that popular like I can smell it on every 5th met woman on the street;] yet good for all season!!! It's like my versace crystal noir but more daily/ spring/ early autumn version. Takes me to the fields of gold, forest, nature. Absolutely what I was searching for, very mine!

I really like it but it has such a familiar smell that I couldn't put my finger on, then after a few days it hit me. When I was little and my parents were still together this is how my dad smelled after a shower, its very similar to what cologne he wore at the time, or his shampoo, soap or something he used. So for that reason I probably wont buy this I don't want old memories attached to my perfume, I am cleaning out my perfumes this year and want all NEW stuff, no memory perfumes. 2012 is gonna be great and deserves all new smells and memories. :-)

Oh, what a gem! Sensuous is a real silage monster and the lasting power is to die for!
I have purchased it in blind and you can't go worng with it - it is very deep and rich, sensual and powerful.
After initial application i was mesmerized, I couldn't help but kept my eyes closed, I haven't felt as good for a long time now.
The sandalwood, amber, honey and magnolia are the perfect combo - it seems like all the ingredients have been mixed up in perfect proportions.
Sensuous has got a great potential to become my signature scent, it possesses all the qualities, perfect projection, ideal notes balance, it truly makes me feel special.
Sensuous is a must have for oriental woody lovers.
10/10.
A definite winner.
A perfect winter fragrance.

This perfume starts with a strong sweet orange scent, I think the sweetness is from the honey and then I can smell something similar to frankincense or more in line with louban,which is not listed as one of the notes, this could be the pepper.The top notes are very sweet and can be offputting but then this perfume settles as a lovely, slightly sweet sandalwood/amber/honey scent. This is a nice fragrance and lasts over 10 hours on my skin. It has a strong sillage that is mainly sandalwood.

Different !
Starts off on me like strawberry jam on toast, Mmmm
Then its the magnolia I get the most until the wood , pepper and honey takes over, its pretty sweet in the beginning and turns more soft and powdery at the base. The perfume is really nice, very wearable and stays a long time with your body. It almost resembles a suntan oil I had a long time ago and that makes me think of a warm breeze at the beach !
Could probably very easy turn into someones signature,
It was a long time since I had an Estee perfume, and by that time, in the late eighties and early nineties, they were very different from this...
I like this Estee Lauder better, warm, sexy and close to skin !
But - I couldn´t get over the fact that on me this was a bit synthetic and didnt merge with my body the way I wanted it to, I could always feel it around me and I dont like that. I am sad , because its a really nice scent. .

It's one of the best sandalwoody fragrances lately in my opinion, without too much edge or masculine feeling to it. I can see the comparing to Samsara, the drydown is very close to it according to my (untrained) nose. I enjoy Sensuous more (Samsara's top notes are more '80's like' to me, I like and respect it but can't love it). Sensuous is more modern and more linear to me (it's not a problem in this case - it's linear good), I mainly feel sandalwood, magnolia and (not too sweet) honey with pepper. It's warm and inviting, I associate it with a woman of poise and contentment, it should be called 'Good life'. Longevity (6-8 hours) and sillage are pretty good but not in a disturbing way.

..och äntligen, här e jag. Älskar denna doften. Underbar. Håller länge på huden, djup, varm, supersexig, superkvinnlig. HIntar av träiga toner, hintar av kryddor. Djupa vuxna blomnoter. Inga sockersöta doftnoter. ingen högljudd doft men ändå intensiv. Underbara doftslöjor omringar mig. En av mina top 5 dofter.

Great perfume with a really matching name: sensuous.

I absolutely love this perfume. I'm not good with detecting notes as some are on this site, all I can say that this fragrance makes me feel very... (o.k not going to be very original).. but it truly makes me feel sensuous.

When I saw the bottle I wasn't impressed or inclined to try it. I love a bottle that looks like a piece of art, and this bottle is quite simple... but as with so many things one should not judge a book by it's simple yet sophistacted cover (or should I say bottle). The lady at the shop sprayed it on my wrist and from the 1st smell/spray I was sold... Obsessed I should say! I just had to have it!

One word and it's not really a word. Mmmm.

I have had this perfume since it's debut in 2008. I am writing this review now because my time on Fragrantica has made me realize what this really is....My Signature. I probably wear it the most and I get the most compliments on this one.

I hadn't paid much attention to Estee Lauder (nothing wrong with Estee, it's a great brand) but the ad campaign on this was to die for and really caught my attention. I loved the simplicity and the suggestion that every woman wears it her way. Simplicity is elegance to me and every woman is unique...even in the classic white menswear button down.

So I tested the perfume at the counter and loved it right away. I went to the counter to "test" some for several days before I bought it.

My first impression was the white floral top note which is very fleeting but so feminine and then maybe two minutes later the citrus and woody notes come in and stay throughout the day, intermittenly I get the ambery honey peppered nuances. It wears close to the skin and remains feminine although woody and "light" but does have decent sillage because I am told quite often that I smell nice when I wear it.

It does happen that I get different impressions at different times. Sometimes this has reminded me of a shampoo?!?! I don't mind that because try as we might I have heard that sometimes it is the simplest most overlooked scent that people will identify as smelling like you. I have been reminded of cinnamon buns, sweet, honeyed. I have been reminded of campfires, smokey, peppery.

It can also feel very different depending on the material you wear...honestly...wearing satiny/silky clothes and this is devine. A different feel from the chunky sweater...which is also quite nice and comforting...a different feel from businesswear, I'd take it seriously if I smelled it on someone...and even in cocktail dresses it intrigues people as it is not a common floral or fruity scent. However it works in all cases. Maybe it responds to moods or changes in chemistry but it brings all these things together so that all that is left, the common denominator is you.

When I have my perfumes out and friends/family sniff my collection, everyone has picked this up and remarked, "this one smells like you".

Highly highly recommend you try it. I'm glad that I did.

I will never be without it. And while I do wear and love other things...this is my go to, don't even think about it, every day, every occasion scent.

Beautiful! I always feel like a sophisticated lady when I wear this. It's fresh, clean with interesting honey and spice coming through to turn it into something other than a boring floral. The pepper definitely is noticeable on my skin, which I love. Very different from what I normally wear so I had to visit it a few times to decide whether it's me or not. I love it now and get a giddy rush whenever I smell it!

Have you ever rushed to get a term paper finished, and you're basically satisfied with it when you turn it in, and maybe even receive high marks, but later on when you re-read it, you see areas where it could've been so much better, if only you'd had more time to perfect it? You know, when you want a do-over?

Having first experienced Sensuous Noir before Sensuous, I feel like Sensuous Noir is a do-over of Sensuous. As though it was eating away at the creator that Sensuous could've been better - a little more special and dramatic, deeper, richer and more memorable.

Sensuous is just that! A warm, sensual,cashmere wrap - enveloping you gently in a gentle woodsy, honeyed perfume - enriched with sandalwood. pepper and amber. Slightly gourmand with the honey note - and, I feel, could be slightly sickly for some noses!

I don't seem to get any of the jasmine accord which my skin usually amplifies to screech level and I really cannot smell the other floral accords. There is a feint mandarine in the background but I am pushed to find it as the honey seems to be the most predominant note on my skin!

Definitely a 'safeish' fragrance - doesn't scream 'look at me' in any way; however, it isn't a shrinking voilet either. I think some might find it monotonous but I just find it soothing and enveloping! And vastly different to EL's other fragrances.

I prefer this for autumn/winter - I think it would be too cloying during the warmer months and could turn sickly very easily in the heat!

Overall a good buy, fairly long-lasting with an average silage. Sits pretty close to the skin after an hour or two and would need maybe one top up during the day!

I've never liked any Estee Lauder fragrance before, so I don't know what made me give this a try, just for frivolous fragrance fun, I suppose :} At the time I first smelled it, my general preference was for sweet gourmand perfumes, so there was definitely the "this is....different" moment. Not bad, but very much "not me". But the more I caught whiffs of the tester strip, the more I kept thinking "this is SOOOOO yummy", not in my usual sweet, want to eat cupcakes way, but its just so warm and creamy and smooth. After a while, I developed an unusual mental association with this fragrance, to me it smells sexual. Musky but clean, woody/raw, with just a hint of sweetness. I can't smell it now without thinking about that. So this is my go-to perfume when that mood strikes, but it also conjures up images of autumn, being in forests with the sun streaming through the trees and a gentle whisper of coolness in the air. This will always be in my collection.

This is indeed what the name implies ... it's also beautiful, yummy, calming, well balanced, long lasting, classy but not in a stuffy way.

Love this as well as it's predecessors..'nude' and 'noir', all very well done, and unique enough to constitute a new name but still similar enough to be related. May be one of the best lines of perfume out there tody.

Very happy with my purchases. This and noir I most definently plan on purchasing again.

I've tried Sensuous today after a long time of not-trying ;) and I guess my taste has changed since a year ago, when I liked Sensuous very much, nowadays I find it unique but uneasy to wear.

Really, the fragrance IS unique, I don't know anything very similar to Sensuous - unless Bvlgari BLV II, which is similar in climate but different.

Sensuous is smokey-honey-ish, it drips and drips and drips... it may cause monotony and in fact the fragrance is somewhat monotonous. It seems there's a lot of benzoin in there but I can't see it listed. The scent is sharp and mild altogether, loud and quiet... it isn't calm, it pretends to be though.

Sensuous has a great lasting power and is powerful, close to being a killer ;) I can't see any tobacco in notes but I can sniff something like that, also a mature pear. Sensuous isn't sexy either. It's like a warm wool sweater that can 'bite" a bit - the sweater, cigarettes, bed, duvet and autumn!

Bottle looks fine.

It's definitely spicy and has an incense character to it. The base notes are outstanding but the florals are there. It's almost allspicy to me and I think it definitely translates unisex but I think it would also make a good men's fragrance. I loved it when I first bought it because I really like orientals, but lately I find it overpowering, maybe because I've been wearing lighter perfumes. The synthetic fragrance is a bit noticeable to me. Still I like the idea of this one.

Very monotonous fragrance. It starts with very sweet, candied orange peel and does not change much as it develops. Does it actually develop at all?. Well, not really. It does get softer and a bit more cosy, but I can't smell any other notes joining in. Honey? Maybe a drop or two, but it's rather on the artificial side. Woodsy notes? Sorry to say that, Estee, but I can't detect any. Sensuous is rather flat, uninspired and anything but sensuous.

Don't get me wrong: it's a pleasant fragrance, but it is NOT a great perfume, if you know what I mean. I'd rather use it as a room or linen spray than as perfume.

Oh Sensuous, I might have to give you another chance. You see, first I tried it on my skin and liked it, but was undecided and wanted to give other fragrances a try. So the next time I was at a perfume store I tried it on a paper strip. But then, all I could smell was... nutmeg. It smelled like a huge bunch of nutmeg and nothing else. Guess it was the sweet peppery notes that gave that impression to me. And I really don't wanna go around smelling like just nutmeg so I warded it off.
But today I tried it again on my wrist, and it's so much better on skin! As it dries down, it becomes much softer, a lovely skin scent, and I love a good skin scent. Warm and discreetly sexy. Definitely getting a bottle of this.

Edit: It's been 8 hours and it still has a strong scent. I'm sorta getting tired of it actually. Lesson learned: spray lightly, it'll last a long time anyway!

This fragrance and I started out as an uneasy alliance (I had two GWP sizes). Rather like a work colleague that one must 'put up' with on a regular basis, I neither liked nor loathed this fragrance. Then one day, the truce subsides and one realises suddenly that they have gotten slowly and imperceptibly under one's skin. In time, the uneasy alliance gives way to real affection and even loyalty. And so it is with Sensuous.....

Sensuous is a lovely perfume, near-skin scent but definitely better than a typical skin scent (be it musk-dominant or light floral like Chloe or so). A bit gourmand mandarins mixed with honey escorted by fuzzy comfy woody and a bit spicy background makes the start of Sensuous really easy yet charming in a nice way. This is the first Estee Launder perfume that doesn’t give me a headache (the other ones I’ve tried are Pleasures and its flankers, Pure White Linen, Beyond Paradise and Beautiful Love), and in fact, it’s rather pleasant and confidence-boosting, it’s a bit like aromatherapy blend but finer and perfume-y.

It’s rather linear, with the sweet-fuzzy-comfy-woody aspect gets more and more perfectly matched to your skin til it becomes smooth and a bit creamy (nothing tropical or vanilla cake batter), and in the end if settles to sweet amber-y musky skin scent.

Love it, Sensuous is like a grown up version of any fine vanilla perfume without vanilla. It is not sexy in the sugar bomb or sweet floral way, but it’s really sexy in a somewhat romantic, knowing, understanding manner.

I’m a fan of Chinatown and I have to say that after I discovered Sensuous, I find Sensuous can easily replace my Chinatown in many situations when I find Chinatown was a bit too much, as well as being a easy go-to scent for daytime.

Worth trying, and easily a FB-worth one to me :)

Funny thing happened today.
My co-worker started to follow me and walked behind me quite fast. Then I heard a long and loud sniff and big "Aaaaaahhhh!".
I had to stop, turn around and take a look at her with big question-facial expression. She came closer and took me by my shoulders and sniffed my neck.
"What are you wearing!? It smells so lovely! How on earth, does it smell so nice!?" and then she walked away,looking happy with a big smile and laughter.
I was stunned.
Was it that good?!

Sensuous. It is my autumn splendour. Makes me feel comfortable and relaxed. Soft and glorious for the cold winter, like the softest pashmina.
And for you all vanilla-haters: Sensuous doesn't have any of it! It's honey.
Enjoy!

This is such an easy pretty scent. Just the right amount of everything. The opening is floral, magnolia and jasmine to me, tempered honey and woody notes. As the flowers soften, the woody notes bloom, especially the sandalwood. The dry-down is the flowers and woods, with a rather vanilla like sweetness in the background and a hint of creamy white pepper.
Sensuous has a relaxed kind of elegance to it, a beautiful daily fragrance. This is femininity and grace in a bottle. It's the kind of thing worn by a woman who is effortlessly beautiful and polished, as a day-time go to. It exceeded my expectations.

Sensous is a fine, casual sexy fragrance for a modern lady. It is quite easy to like because is not too mutch of anything really, not too floral, not to woody or not to smoky. I cant feel a personality in this perfume but just a easy scent, thats very wearable and likable. I cant see anybody hating this perfume. The top notes that are listed here are not consistant with what I get, first Sensuous reminds me a bit of a spicy tea, with notes that are sweet and salty. Than it develops to a floral woody where the woods are sweetened by the honey wich is very aromatic.
This scent can be a little bit strong, a small spray goes a long way.
Sensous fits someone who wants to be noticed and that wants to give an image of style and feminity, although I think this perfume is not very natural has it tryes to hard if you know what i mean.
Its a good fragrance and I would like to have it in my collection has a perfume to wear when I'm not inspired.
It kind of belongs to that category of perfumes nowadays that tend to be femine but have a strange notion of what it means, but I guess thats just because I'm a fan of the classics.
Anyway, a good one for a woman in her 20's.

Hm.. this is very different from anything i have in my wardrobe i think. it is soft ,almoust like clouds getting warm out off the drying machine. comfy,sensuel..A bit off warm honey, gental gental, but still there,sandelwood for shure.Peppery maybe a bit o sharp in that apartment. Gental florals. but the other notes are stronger so this flowers just lingers.
This to me feels like the smell off warm skin, Soft elegant and sensuel. this cant offend anybody i think..
But i still dont think this is my kind off perfume:)

Oh, well... The idea is really nice and this perfume could have been so good with a clever mix of honey and amber. However, even though it's pleasant, it's so flat and boring! And it lasts forver, unchanging and monotonous. I used up my mini and would never invest in a full bottle.

I love this perfum, the note that attracts me is the molten woods and creamy effect it has on me. I detect the honey and jasmine and my husband who is a fan of this fragrance can't stop smelling my neck when i have sprayed it on. It really is special to me. I can only recommend it when you like woody notes.

I'm so disappointed with this... just more proof that my skin no longer holds scent the way it used to.

I get none of the soft, warm aspects of this fragrance the way so many others do. All I get is a sharp blast of sandalwood and soap. Total bummer.

This is a perfume that has sort of a sentimental value for me. The second I smelled it, it reminded me of my mother, who had passed away a few years earlier. It's a very warm, and welcoming scent for me. Nobody else in my life seems to love it as much as I do, but I wear it all the time because it gives me a sort of reminiscent happiness.

I really like Men in Love's review below about Sensuous and I really love this perfume too!

On me, Sensuous has a distinct toffee caramel, warm syrupy, creamy, soft kind of sense which is quite addictive and sexy in a smooth, comforting kind of way, not in a vampy, killer heel, low top, in-your-face way! It lasts for a long time on my skin too and leaves a subtle trail so I get little whiffs of it when I'm moving around. When I'm in perfume sections of department stores this is one of the perfumes I find myself gravitating towards yet again to have a couple of spritzes! The only downside to this perfume for me, if there is one at all, is that the bottle to me looks a bit cheap and tacky (unlike, say, the Bronze Goddess bottle which is very nice!) but that's just a small thing and the perfume is so nice that it really doesn't matter what the bottle is like at all!

5 out of 5 from me for this lovely perfume, and I really must get a bottle of this for myself soon!

Although it isn't one of my absolute favorites, I admire this perfume because it is truly such a chameleon. It smells different on everyone I know, and instead of blaring its name, it softly and warmly insinuates and its way into the nasal passages, the way a graceful hostess might direct the conversation between her dinner guests. It frames the sensuality of each individual woman who wears it, the little black dress of any collection. The honey is soft but perceptible, and the lily and jasmine are sweet without being overpowering. Delightfully understated.

This is likely a beautiful sexy smelling jewel on many people. :0) I hoped it could work for me too, it smell nice and light at first spray ... but ... After 2 hours of applying it at Ulta, it had below ave/ no lasting power on my arm or w my chemistry even after reapplying. It was not meant for me. I might have to try the Noir to determine if it has same affect on me too. My Estee favs which are more accepting to my chemistry are Tuscanny Per Donna, Dazzling Gold.

This perfume is so feminine but has a bit of masculanity to it..Seriously The AD explain this perfume really well.

Well...this is just delicious, even though it is not easy to define which facet of the fragrance is dominant - is it the white flowers or the woods and honey? Or perhaps the gentle spicy soapiness? I guess Sensuous is a bit of everything making into a rather versatile and easy to pick up fragrance which still embodies a certain feel of good 'ol femininity without compelling its wearer to deem it boring or outdated.
It is not in-your-face loud, yet it has a sweet white flowery (magnolia most of all) spicy edge, just enough to make you want to get a waft of it on yourself every minute. The pepper and dry woody notes convey a somewhat soapy and clean edge. This might not be a fragrance that would kick you in the face with unapproachable character, but it's laid-back and inviting in an intriguing way.
The sillage is pretty strong at first and then softens a bit; excellent longevity. If you want something mouthwatering without being sugary or tangy- Sensuous might be your thing. After wearing this for a week at the seaside I find it easy to wear, comforting and sultry but somewhat joyful with a notable gourmand-ish side. I much prefer to wear it in colder weather though. For me it's like the thin warmth of the sun in the cold transparent winter air (and like cookies with walnuts and honey just out of the oven :). It seems to be rather pleasing to people without being intrusive (if you stick to a reasonable amount of spraying, of course). I've been complimented many times when wearing it by women and men alike.
The bottle is easy to carry around in your bag, even though you probably won't find yourself reapplying through the day.

I bought this after I went to have my makeup done at an Estee Lauder counter, and the sales assistant asked me if I wanted her to spray some on me. She sprayed once on my neck and off I went. Weather was pretty warm, bordering on getting quite humid and for the next 5 hours or so I kept getting lovely wafts of a beautiful fragrance unlike any I had tried before.
I bought myself the full size for Christmas, in a set with body lotion and a small purse spray. However, I can never bring myself to wear it, I just really dislike it now and I have no idea why! I'm hoping it will grow on me again, but for now it just sits in my collection next to the lotion and purse spray, barely used. I also smelt in on an older woman on the train a few weeks ago, and could place it instantly, it suited her, so maybe it is more of a mature woman's scent, I'm not sure.

As many of you has said, it is a beautiful scent. I always wear my perfumes to bed and on the weekends (where I work fragrances are not allowed :(( )...and as many of you might already know, fragrances can get "lost" while you sleep. Well, I'm glad to say that I still smell and feel SENSUOUS!!!

I got a 1 oz. as a gift with my other purchases. Quite interesting....my first impression: a piece of freshly cut wood smothered in honey. A floral bouquet comes through in a about 30 minutes, but the honey-sweet note stays all the way through.
I don't consider it complex or sophisticated, rather a casual fragrance for colder weather. Could also work in early spring.
Sillage and lasting power are excellent!

Im not a fan of EL fragrances, but I definitely like this one. That being said, i am not excited about it enought to buy another bottle in the future. Will probably use it to wear with jeans.

This one is pretty sexy for an Estee Lauder scent, normally i find them pretty bland and conservative, i usually picture republican housewives at a convention wearing Estee Lauder but this baby is different. For me I think a guy could definetly pull this fragrance off, its quite woody and it seems dark but thats all balanced out by the creaminess of its palette. Its a very well constructed fragrance. The Jasmine and Magnolia are the first thing i smell when i spray this, they offer that soft floral scent which straddles the line between being sweet but quite savoury and then you get that heavy woodiness which is quite strong but not to the point where its obnoxious and i think the honey brings in that balance of creaminess which makes this fragrance IMO perfect in every way. Give this one a try. Its worth it. Staying power is excellent too.

This is my vision of, how to say it, "edible wood".
From the beginning I'm surrounded by wood notes: smooth sandalwood and guaiac wood - or probably amber gives this soft and silky effect, then caramel and very quiet ylang-ylang. Sensuous doesn't change much, but also doesn't make me feel bored - it's so delicious and scrummy, yet with slightly spicy note. Simply sensuous.

It's no way as sensuous as it seems to want to be - it's more like the loving cuddle on the sofa that turns into the rest. It's classy, it doesn't hump, thrust or grind like Midnight Poison does, it caresses and nibbles earlobes at most.

I had to carry this bottle around with me because it wouldn't last - like another reviewer commented, they had to spray their clothes rather than their skin. I got drunk and lost it...some lucky b*tch will have found this in a taxi...

Just jealous it wouldn't last on me. I loved the combination of warmth and freshness it gave me, without being sickly or cakey.

I always got asked what I was wearing too. I'd buy this again but only after investing in some kind of mini-vial to carry some around for top ups.

Very pretty, creamy scent. The honey and woodsy notes are dominant on my skin and smells like sweet melting honey on sandalwood. It's not necessarily Sensuous but rather Subtle. It kind of reminds me of Sean John's Unforgivable Woman. Both are creamy, soft, and non-offensive.

This is such a warm and cosy scent. To my nose, the most prominent notes are sandalwood, honey and cinnamon.

Completely agree with Chanelette. I also declare addicted!
The aroma has an incredibly long lasting, all day!!!! . The output is somewhat floral but accompanied by wood, especially sandalwood and mandarin, sweet without excess .... delicious.
Over time, the perfume lost some intensity and then surprise! mandarin and pepper with a touch more "brighter" but with the same background of sandalwood and honey. I have never smelled anything like this on my : O

Starts off very sexy with warm woods and Honey
Delecate petals of magnolia blooms with a seductivly
sweet scent and it's stately elegance then dries with lily with a tingere of spiciness Jasmine floats shyly giving a greenish herbalness which is suble, Then turns synthtic giving an impression of Sugar got stuck in some plastic but it's bearable and in fact
what makes it for what it is, Amber is pronuanced
in sensuous and gives off a sweetness which it can
be Cloying at times I can detect Cinnamon dry and
semi-sweet when mixed with the note of pepper conjours a delectable and sensual aroma The drydown is my favorite Sandalwood adds a inner fire to a
icy and refined flagon, Sensuous has a Luminosity
an innerglow that is comfident without aggression
Sexy but not smut it gives suble hints no tacky
bright colors or designs just simple and elegant.

Today I officially admited I'm addicted to Sensuous. I only bought a small bottle, expecting that I'd get tired of it after a few weeks. I was sooo wrong! Each time I spray it on I realize THIS is the perfect woody fragrance. The sandalwood note is very prominent on me, but I don't perceive any of the smokiness mentioned below. The woodsy note is a kind of linear and clean. Then there's this mandarine note which is not zesty fresh like when you peel of the fresh fruit. It's more like a mandarine pie, where the mandarines are sweetened by honey and in the oven they get a caramel touch. The delicious pie is sprinkled with just a little pepper. The fragrance is light and smooth and very wearable, with excellent longevity.

Sensuous is a really sexy and feminine scent for the upcoming spring and summer season! it opens with a little sharp pure white florals and an exotic hint of sweet powdery magnolia but very quick woods and precious luxury amber are fading in and soften down the florals to a rich and alluring heartnote. the best is the drydown: the juicy-foody mandarine accord waves over creamy sandalwood and sweet and lovely honeytrails with just a pinch of pepper... hmmm delicious ! great sillage. staying power great as well. can hardly stop keep on sniffing...wow!

I do not wear Sensuous very often, but when I do, I always think: Why don't I wear this more often?

Briefly: Opens a little strong, and a bit peppery, which gives the whole thing a little depth. The pepper tones down and turns sort of cinnamon-spicy instead. Sensuous becomes increasingly sweet with honey and vanilla as it sits on your skin. I don't know what that 'molten woods' note is supposed to be but if you were in the woods, and there was a campfire of felled maple burning in front of a gingerbread house on a windy fall day, I guess that would be it. The drydown is very vanilla, and a bit of woods.

What I love about this is the combination of subtle sillage and staying power. It is not so strong that you will knock people over, but you will be able to smell the scent all day, (and maybe only the people who get very close to you can too.) This lasts all day long on me and I like it very much.

My father is from India and occasionally when I was young he would go and come back with a small gift for me. Often it would be a figurine of sandalwood of some sort, especially an elephant. Natural sandalwood has a beautful creamy, slightly floral, wood scent. Unfortunately I do not think that synthetic 'sandalwood' comes close to the scent of natural sandalwood, but the vanilla/wood/pinch of spice drydown here is still nice.

First i spotted it in London airport in september 2008 and really liked it. There is something magical about that spicy scent. And then i had to wait for over a year till it was available in my country. Then i sniffed it and didn´t liked it at all. The spices were too mauch then. Kater again i thought i will give it a second chance and bought it but still didn´t like it so i gave it away to my mom, which seems to fit her very well. Then everytime she sprayed it onto her i smelled it and realized that i am loving it again, so i was borrowing it from her until i bought it for myself. But once again i am not really using it at tne moment but i guess it is only because it is not a winter but late summer-autumn scent. It is also works good with high humidity, so i mostly use it when it rains. I guess you can call it a love-hate relationship.

Bought this for my mum, but now I keep borrowing it. Not as floral as other Estee Lauder perfumes.

Ahhh, I do so have a soft spot for EL Sensuous. But not for the famed 'molten woods' which is entirely lost on me.

I can smell thick, sticky delicious honey but I can also smell the hot, sticky feel of onion residue on the skin. Skin below the ankle to be more precise as it also has the gloriously rich fruity aroma of summertime feet!

Yes, yes, I too thought I was having a olfactory hallucination but in the interests of assuring myself it wasn't a brain tumour I consulted the Oracle who told me that a combination of lactones (of which Sensuous is very rich therein) and sweat can cause an 'oniony' output.

The truly shameful part of this whole story is that I still wear Sensuous around the house when the impish mood strikes. I find it strangely enjoyable, like giggling at your own flatulance.

Indeed, Sensuous never fails to bring a smile to my face.

This is my answer to bringing in the fall beauty! A fragrance unique, classy, warm, and sensual....the name is perfectly suited! The first time i tried it was spring and I didnt care for it. I especially do not like it when its hot out, its not refreshing. But when the temperature drops a bit, and you need warm and cozy...this is the one. It smells best when you are wearing layers for some reason. Warm fires, cozy blankets, and crunching snow....you will find sensuous the perfect companion!

I like this one a lot. Here in Canada, after having the crappiest summer I can recall, ever, we're now heading quite fast into a cool fall. And I think Sensuous will be one of those fall/winter "sit by the roaring fireplace and watch it snow outside" (thus delaying the inevitable going outside to shovel the sidewalk) fragrances. I believe it is thanks to the lily+sandalwood+pepper+honey combo, especially the fairly strong peppery smell, like a part of mulled wine smell, very cozy and comforting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
update: It has been a couple of months of me "testing" this fragrance and I must say I am in love with it! It also happens to be the first "winter" fragrance that did not make me sick or headachy, at all. I am surprised by that because the scent is not a shy one, it is peppery (in a sexy way) and feminine but in a really good way, well, at least on me. Not too many heavier scents deliver that for me but this one does, every time. I will be getting a full size of this one right away.
I have this in the crook of one elbow. It was sweet from the initial spray. It does have a rather soapy, sweet scent in the dry down. I also detect a hint of something a little musky. Perhaps the amber? It's not an unpleasant scent, but it is a little sweeter than I'm used to. Having only sprayed it on one arm though, the lasting strength is pretty good. I sprayed it about 2 hours ago in the store and can still smell it. My husband and step daughter liked it better than the Euphoria I have on the other arm. LOL. I definitely don't smell any Jasmine or Lilly. Perhaps a tease of Magnolia. It hasn't made me rush headlong for the bathroom to scrub my arm. I smell it a lot better than I do the Euphoria. I'm gonna ride it out and see if I grow to like it. It's different from anything I've bought before. But, different is sometimes good right?
The campagne does not fit the perfume, at all. The models are wearing white clean shirts, which evokes a 'pure' idea; which isn't right for it at all. The bottle says somewhat more: it is a warm fragrance... and rather confusing, since it has something of everything. It has something candy-ish, and sometimes something tobacco-ish. It is feminine though a bit masculine at the same time. Deep deep down somewhat powdery and soapy too (there where the amber/vanilla stuff kicks in), like agent provocateur strip. I think one could interpretate it as modern, but also as kind of classy (in the drydown). One thing is certain: sensuous plays with a lot of senses, and is not made for nice sweet little girls!
I had smelt this for the first time only sometime last week, and immediately after I sniffed it, I realized it smells remarkably similar to Dolce Vita, just not as rich or full. And after reading the list of notes that each possess, I'm not at all surprised, for they share many of them... And are both oriental woody scents as well. This fragrance is quite strong, yet so soft. Woody, yet sweet. Could take me from daytime to nightime without any hesitation at all. I'm very happy with my purchase. :)
What a dissappointment. I was absolutely flabbergasted with the beautiful add-campaign and so dissappointed with the fragrance itself.
A most repulsive smell ever, makes me want to vomit. Chemistry I guess.
I just tested this today, and absolutely love it! I sprayed it before going to a movie and doing some pilates with my sister, and it was still present and beautiful hours after I put it on. My only major worry was that my boyfriend wouldn't like it, because he usually shies away from strong scents and I thought this would be too dark for him. However, when he smelled it me he absolutely adored it (he wouldn't let go of my hand for the longest time!) and even thought it smelled light. After seeing how well it holds up, I'm definitely hoping to get this for my upcoming birthday, but if not I'll simply have to buy it myself.
This perfume smells like an extension of my own smell, and definitely qualifies as a "skin scent". It feels natural and sexy without being too musky or dirty.
I received this as a gift from my husband for Valentines day. It could definitely be described as a "skin scent". It just happens to blend with my chemistry remarkably well. I first tried it on last summer, and I thought it smelled very raw. Almost like you had been lying on the beach, perspiring a bit, but you didn't really stink because you have on suntan oil and deodorant. I would guess this to be a very sexy scent from some of the comments I have received. I think it would be great to wear during the summer at night.
I am sorry to say this made me want to hurl as much as Simply Clinique, which gives me the same kind of ill feeling. I would like to look further at the composition of both and see what may be linked, apart from the fact Clinique and Estee Lauder are closely linked as co-companies anyway. Funnily I thought I always had a strong stomach. No can do.
Ok I need to update. Yes it still reminds me of Samsara, but not cheap at all. I got a good whiff at Macys and I find this to like its name sensuous. I does last too. I just didnt notice before because the scent is so soft. I smells like what Samsara Shine should smell like. A lighter version of Samsara. I actually was tempted to buy this for the summer because I think it would be a nice summer scent. but I need time to reflect on whether I would grow to love this. Its soft, woody, musky with a pinch of sweetness.Scratch my last review.
This is one that I liked on first spray and actually considered (impulse) buying. I thought 'yep, good quality, quite sexy, surely my kind of thing?' - No. I think the honey is always a stickler for me - I hate other frags with honey notes too. It just sticks in the back of my throat and makes me feel sick. Too cloying and not woody enough, but I can appreciate it just the same for being a bit different.
At the beginning Sensuous too safe, too comfortable seemed to me. And now I adore totally and I am not imagining not to have it. It is so extremely cinnamon, delicate, harmonious, nothing in it is sticking out, very warm, full of light. The most in it notes of the cinnamon and beautiful lilies are bewitching me. Very women's, elegant, discreet and original. Simply beautiful. I will buy second flacon`, because first almost I already consumed.
Sensuous is like e moderate niche fragrance, but price is not niche. Price is reasonable.
The first time I smelled Sensuous on a scent strip, I fell in love. It's so rich and ambery; its honey note is spot-on and adds delicious depth. The scent strip pulsed for two weeks, so thinking about how deliciously tenacious it was, I purchased it soon after.
It works so much better on paper and clothing than it does on me, unfortunately. It morphs into a baby wipes scent on my skin, which is lamentable. When I use it, I have to spray my clothes rather than me.
I can smell Sensuous from yards and yards away, and will always track down who is wearing it to compliment her/him on her/his wonderful taste.
This one's a real gem.
I bought this last year on the plane going to Greece. I found it soft and very spicy on my skin. The only problem was it was not very long lasting, after half a hour it was gone. Gave it to my Daughter who thought it was an unusual perfume and liked it, but did not last very long on the skin.
Those who appreciate honey-floral perfumes along the lines of Guerlain L'INSTANT should be pleased also with Estee Lauder SENSUOUS, which opens to my nose as an oriental floral showcasing magnolia before moving swiftly to a luscious honey-sandalwood-amber drydown.
The sweetness of the honey-amber amalgam seeps deeply into the wood but without reaching the point of being cloying. This is a wristsniffer for sure, with excellent staying power and medium sillage in the edp.
Nothing revolutionary or earthshattering here, but sometimes yumminess is enough! SENSUOUS is a fine oriental-floral-woody fragrance which will work especially well during wintertime, serving as it does to warm the wearer up.
A better name might be SUMPTUOUS, but SENSUOUS definitely seems FB-worthy to me!
Aftering wanting to try Sensuous for a long time now, I have to say I am thoroughly disappointed. I think the name for Sensuous is a somewhat misleading name, because while it's definitely a woodsy perfume (and I consider a lot of them to be very sensuous), it did not seem in any way sensual or even provocative IMO.
A few seconds after the first spritz and I wasn't very impressed. The magnolia and the jasmine - notes I'm actually very fond of - I barely detected. Instead, I got this waft of what the others have reviewed very aptly as being like a caramel or syrup. I guess that'll be the honey, then. I'm not sure it agreed very well with my body chemistry because about 10 minutes later it started smelling like powdered sugar. There were sharper moments in the perfume, what I can only take to be the pepper base notes. If they were trying to sex this perfume up, they failed. It didn't blend well with the honey notes, and it ended up seeming like Sensuous couldn't make up it's mind whether it wanted to be mellow and sensual, or sexy and forthright. About 2-3 hours in, it started to smell like talc on me. That's when I started trying to scrub it off, but sadly, while Sensuous doesn't make the best of itself on my skin, it was impressively stubborn, lasting over 7 hours.
Some of the reviewers here say they could smell sandalwood, and I think I could smell a variant of some kind of incense in Sensuous, but it seemed very synthetic to me, and when it dried down properly, ended up smelling like talcum powder. I later had a chance to smell vestiges of Sensuous on my jacket sleeve, and I found that it was actually quite pleasant to smell when it wasn't on my skin. I think I could just about appreciate the warm, woody notes which was probably what the makers had intended rather than the talcy smell. Obviously then, Sensuous has potential, but on the wrong skin, it's not flattering.
Still, I couldn't help but feel like this perfume was for an older woman. Definitely not "old lady" perfume, but it certainly had a maturity about it. I can't see anybody younger than her late thirties or earlier forties wearing this on a regular night out.
While I don't like many EL fragrances any more, this one is wonderful. I love the way the wood smells so warm and sweet on my skin, but not too sweet. I sampled it three times before I bought it because I didn't care for the initial blast, but it softens up very quickly. For me, it wears very close to my skin, which really surprised me because EL has never been known for being subtle.
I don't like EL fragrances and I am still on the fence with this one... At times I like it, mostly I am not sure. I looked at the notes again and I am not too keen on honey. The amber in the drydown is quite nice though. Most fragrances don't last on me but this one, I sprayed once on my hand last night and I can still smell it this afternoon. But all EL fragrances have huge lasting power if nothing else.
When I first smelled this, I got a burst of spicy notes. It was very strong and smelled almost like caramel. It was way too strong for my nose. It starts spicy with something like caramel. This impression doesn't last long. Then comes an air of tropical flowers and fruits. Weird perfume, like torn in two aspects totally different to each other. As if you're wearing two perfumes at the same time and they 're not blending well. Not among the best of Estee Lauder. It doesn't last on skin too. 16.53
This is pleasant enough, but I think Estee Lauder fragrances are not my style-I love Aliage, but even that's not my style.
I love the straightforward woodiness of it-but it is strong in a bad way for me. I smell honey, beeswax, amber, even a bit of jasmine and magnolia.....But something about the overall scent that smells unnatural, sprinkled with soap and doesn't make up for it with warmth and self-assertion.
Thanks to a fellow fragrantica member I am able to test this fragrance. It is very grown up and sophisticated. It smells like honeyed flowers with a bit of soapiness to it mixed with sandalwood. A good fragrance for the office or for a evening out. I picture a woman in a button shirt with a pencil skirt and black stilettos wearing this. It is stronger than I expected and i feel like something is missing from it. But i can't quite figure it out.
I got a sample of this a couple days ago. If not for the great rep at the counter insisting, I would have said a definite no to this. I really didn't like this when I sprayed it at the counter, but it was late in the day, so perhaps my sense of smell was off. But I tried again the next day, and found that I really, really like it. Yes, it does start off with a sharp note, something akin to Infusion D'Iris, but it then softens into the most lovely, buttery vanilla, cozy sweater kind of scent. My hubby has said a number of times that I smell good, so I know it is noticeable by others. I am 40, and I find this to fit perfectly what I have been looking for in a woodsy scent that does not enter a room before me, but stays with me in a lovely way.
I respect Estee Lauder house very much, some of my favorite perfumes come from it. I also see that many reviewers like Sensuous a lot, so I have to conclude that it doesn't work with my chemistry. I didn't get anything like warm, sweet, or feminine.
I sprayed it on my wrist and I couldn't smell any of the lovely notes listed here, except maybe some vanilla lost in sharpness. The smell was sharp on me from the very start, and it remained sharp, with some overpowering unpleasant note to it -- I think I smelled licorice, very much out of balance. The woodsy notes were there, perhaps, but they were not warm or aromatic. I am especially disappointed that my skin didn't bring any honey or amber since I've been looking for an ambery perfume. Pity. Glad for all of you for whom it worked.
Most people say to wear this in the winter, but I wore it almost exclusively this summer as the scent was perfect for sultry nights adding a warm, bare skin sex appeal feeling. It is a scent that you have to get close to notice. On me, it has the affect of my natural skin enhanced with a warm, honeyish-amber scent. Very sexy! This is a warm, sweet scent that is very subtle. The prominent notes seem to be the honey, sandalwood, amber, and jasmine. I don't get much of the woody aspects of this scent which is disappointing. It is sweet without being too sugary. I do find that it doesn't last as long as I would like. I sprayed it on this morning and it's faded considerably afer only 4 hours. I would definitely wear this again during the summer, but it is not strong enough for me during the winter. It gets buried under the layers of clothing and cold!
I was very disappointed when I smelt it. I was expecting a woody femenine scent and what I found was a sweet, creamy, medicinal vanilla.
It could have been a great scent if it had not been so sweet and if it had emphasized the woody notes. Fortunately, sillage is moderate, so it is not intrusive.
I get ginger, honey, vanilla and magnolia, and light cedarwood. All notes are well blended, giving a creamy and milky result. I would wear Sensuous as a fall/winter scent, because it is quite cozy.
I can't help thinking of some other perfume when I smell it, but I can't remember which one it is.
For me, there is nothing special about this one.
Its main characteristic is flowers and creamy background. There is also presence of honey caused sweetness, but not so prominent due to influence of pepper and orange. Like several reviewers mentioned it is a soap. That’s probably the best description of Sensuous. Yes, it is pleasant and easily wearable, but nothing more than that.
It is almost identical to D&G La Roue de Fortune, and also has some similarities to Alien. So, I suppose all the people who love the two mentioned above, will love Sensuous. I’m just going to skip this one
I can smell gingerbread and pink pepper, it's a bit floral and delicate. The dry down is very pleasing, creamy, silky and feminine. Still reminds me of soap. A luxurious bar of soap, but still soap.
Let me start by saying that I love this scent. I think it is in fact sensuous. It's not that often that you find a fragrance suggesting it's sexy and really is!
While I love Sensuous on others and I love sniffing it at the store, it is somewhat less impressive on my own skin (I hate when the nose and the skin disagree! Happens rather often). However, I think it is a very elegant and beautiful scent, which calms down quickly after spraying on, and then develops slowly - the perfect mixture. It smells a little woodsy and a little flowery, not overly sweet but very feminine, and the nice thing is that it does not smell like any one particular wood or flower, more like a mixture, which keeps it from getting boring.
To me, it smells somewhat related to CK's Secret Obsession, which somehow works better on my own skin. There's also something that reminds me of Magnifique, although Sensuous, I'd say, is less daring than Magnifique (and maybe more wearable).
On me, its lasting power was rather impressive, but I always think that that's really individual, depending on where and when you put it on, how warm it was etc.
What disappointment!!!
First of all, from the very start I had an impression that this is some sort of Omnia Bvgari clone. Although Sensuous is much poorer in composition, and much less interesting.
And then the nonexisting gingerbread. I dont know why they have put it on the posters. To me Sensuous transform into something very powdery, and almost soapy. A soap bubble with a strong hint of jasmine. It is not an unpleasant fragrance, but by no means is it warm, creamy or woody, which I would expect after reading thr reviews and looking at the notes.
Love it! I didn't expect much due to the most boring bottle ever and the fact that I am not a fan of Estee Lauder perfumery, but the scent was a very pleasant surprise!
I like the opening lily scent, very fresh, floral and a bit zesty, but what I like most of all is how the scent develops after settling down. It gets very warm, with hints of spices and incense and white flowers.
I wouldn't wear this one in hot weather though. The spices will be adorable in winter, but overwhelming otherwise.
No,no, no... not for me this one.
On me it's lily (identical like in Passage d'Enfer, my favorite part) amber (like in Moschino's Glamour and Look- very putting me off) that's mixed with honey and pepper. It seems that the part I don't like s amber+honey combo. Then again it feels like I smelled something like that, but can't remember, maybe it was some cream or similar stuff. Apart from that it fells very rich and would appeal many, just not for me.
Estee Lauder fragrances don't usually like me, as they leave a stale or rancid scent.
Peppery with initial freshness soon turns into a warm sweet smell of cake. Honey aroma is very expressive.Long lasting on the skin and after 10 hours still felt woody notes.This is a kind of spicy woody scent.
Sensuous is intimate, but a bit strange to me. Even has similarities with Intuition, as to touch somewhere halfway, though belonging to different groups. Also very sensual, has that softness of the Sensi Armani.
I would dare to buy any Lauder fragrance without a try, because they usually agree with my skin chemistry. But I still think that Sensuous is so different from other Estee Lauder (mostly floral) fragrances.
I like Estee fragrances, but many do not. Many like Sensuous, but I do not too much.I love woody fragrances. Sensuous is quite unusual compared to other woody scents; modern, more commercial, was created to have a wide audience, unlike other Estee fragrances. Just not my type of perfume, but I like the bottle,very simple and yet so elegant. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Sensuous, when it's cold outside Sensuous is like a soft warm blanket.Winter fragrance,Sensuous not really lifts me, makes me a little sleepy and lazy. Just need to get used to wear it.
Spraying out of the bottle, Sensuous immediately releases a mixture of citrusy and creamy floral notes that smell like a blend of orange, jasmine, roses with light hints of amber. A very light and breezy composition, that lingers on for about 30 minutes followed by a fresh but equally sweet, summery floral bouquet with creamy, vanillic undertones.
The sillage reminds me of Armani's Sensi, except Sensuous isn't as sweet and the early appearance of the honey doesn't make it cloyingly sweet. Sensuous is rather a powdery floral with a light sillage. A simple, modern, somehow refreshing and soft composition with a little bit of a soapy edge.
The final notes are sweet but not overly sweet and make Sensusous an ambery skin scent that stays on for another 2 - 3 hours. I was disappointed how this light eau de parfum only lasted for about 6 - 7 hours though I understand why. Sensuous is a modern oriental woody scent, sparkling and sweet then fades away quickly. There aren't any real woodsy notes in it, it's just a woody impression we're getting here.
Sensuous belongs to a very popular trend, the modern oriental woody category with Sensi, Let it Rock from Vivienne Westwood and some
celebrity fragrances (Halle, Naomi Campbell Mystery), just to name a few which are just shadows of what oriental woody fragrances should really be.
Thus Sensuous is safe, sweet and likely to appeal to different age groups, however lacking that self-confident, alluring and comfortable feminine statement that oriental woody fragrances used to be about. It is however a nice change from those fruity or citrus punches that invade the fragrance stores in the summer.
I have a dear friend that adores this scent, so I urged myself to try Sensuous to see what all the fuss was about.
Well, Sensuous is certainly a pleasant and soft scent, however I can't say that it struck me as very original or outstanding.
When I first applied this fragrance, I was turned off by its strong opening which was rather headache-inducing. I waited quite impatiently for this initial blast to soften into a powdery and spicy scent, which was nice but not something I was overly keen on.
To be completely honest, the only aspect of this fragrance which I found truly 'sensuous' was the drydown in my opinion, which was woodsy with touches of vanilla, spice and warmth. I couldn't sense the sweet honey note, which I'm rather quite glad about, because I don't believe it would have embodied this scent well.
This fragrance may not appeal to my tastes, however I can see why people love it. It's cozy and soothing, something I could imagine someone wearing with a cashmere wool sweater and sipping a mug of hot chocolate while reading a dusty old book. As you can tell by my description, Sensuous is not a loud, sexy or outrageous fragrance, it's just a simple scent with a quiet yet charming presence.
I ffind this scent as mysterious and dark, but not terribly original. I've smelled this combination of magnolia and amber before, in Burberry's limited edition Brit Gold, which, on the other hand is longer lasting.
The name matches the fragrance perfectly. Soft and warmth. Blessed with pleasant characteristics that he strokes the leather, related makes us remember the beauties of our experiences with the touch. Very sensual, and feminine. His softness for the lily, a magnolia and the jasmine soft stroking may say thank you for it to his flower petals. His heart the ambergris reigns alone. The main reason, on which the fragrance leans,, the pepper, tangerine and honey form an interesting three with a carriage.From this his end the honey dominates rather because the presence of the pepper was not perceptible for me. The tangerine mash is not in a concentrate on a sign that he should take the fragrance away into the direction of the exotic fruits. All the time mild, and sensual what he keeps long is left over.
I don't like woodsy fragrances, as a general rule, and I'm not usually a fan of anything with an overpoweringly orange or citrus scent. That said, I really like this perfume. It's so unique and unusual. When I first tested it, I was unsure about whether or not I liked it. For that entire first day of testing it, I flip-flopped between really liking it and thinking it was overly woodsy and too heavy. Later that week, I went back for a sample. They didn't have any samples left (I had spritzed it directly onto my wrists earlier in the week), but the store clerk actually made me one out of some small, empty sample bottles she had lying around.
The flip-flopping continued for the next week, and each time I tried it I liked it a little more than the last time. But still, it occasionally hits me as overpowering and harsh. The harshness fades quickly, but for the few moments it lasts, it's nauseatingly strong. This is the same problem I have had with each Estee Lauder product I've tried. Too strong. But Sensuous is by far the best Estee Lauder perfume I've sampled, and it's the only one I can truly say I really like. I now own a small bottle of it, and it's warm and sensual and woodsy, but the type of fragrance I'd only want to wear on occasions, so that I didn't burn out on it.
I'm absolutely in love with sensuous!I just saw that it has won the FIFI award for media woman.I think it deserves to be the best perfume of the year!it's not like any of other fragrances by estee lauder.in fact it's not like any other fragrance at all.smelling it reminded me Hoggar by Yves Rocher for men.they don't have any note in common,but both belong to oriental woody category and have some similarities.but that's another story...
don't trust the notes.I don't get any of them.in fact all I get is a kind of warm,spicy,woodsy scent that makes me dizzy from pleasure.I thought I got something like cardamon or cinnamon.but I don't see any of them here.vanilla exist,but it doesn't let it smell too sweet.it's well balanced between being sweet and spicy.
I agree the description that it"praise the beauty and sensuality of women of all age."I think every woman at every age can wear it.it's mature,but also modern and not old-fashioned at all.
of course it's perfect for winter with it's warmness and sensuality.
I praise sensuous,the only problem I have is the shape of bottle.I think the bottle is not nice and doesn't tell anything about this unique perfume.
It's taken me a couple of weeks of wear for me to work this one out but i finally think I have enough of a grip on this to attempt a review !
The first few times I wore it I thought "This is VERY Estee Lauder. Hmmm. Vanilla, creamy vanilla. Lots of it. And sandalwood. And its purple. "
It's not until I saw the notes it contained that I recognised the mandarin pulp, and now that I do ,it annoys me slightly. It's not pronounced enough to make it unwearably fruity but it does irritate me slightly, a bit like the irritation of something stuck between your teeth! The trouble is it's not a juicy fresh mandarin, it's like something out of a can. Having said that, there is something warm and snuggly here that I do really like. I often find vanilla too sweet and girlish, but here it's very nicely balanced by the sandalwood. Curiously, I don't really get much in the way of the floral notes or the pepper, but there is possibly a bit of cassia bark in the mix. And I still say that if it had a colour, it would be purple! I expected my significant other to really like this one (he loves that vanilla-donut-pumpkin pie type stuff) but all he had to say was "Errr, it smells like some flowery perfume".
I have to say that this one goes on forever..(The fragrance, not my husband)I can still smell it on the jacket I wore last week although I applied it very sparingly and there was several layers of fabric between the perfume and the jacket!
Not sure if I would part with my hard earned cash for this one (I have to say that the ultra-airbrushed ad campaign couldn't be less appealing to me if it tried), but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it if I was given it as a gift.
I tried it several times since my review - fell in love, much to my surprise, cause at first it did not seem that special to me - and now I finally have it, all to myself! And I would like to add something to my previous brief review. I would be extremely surprised if it doe not have cinnamon, because the top and the heart are reeking of cinnamon - and also that variety of spices that always are used in making of gingerbread or pumpkin bread.It is warm, inviting - but does not become sexy until some time later, when the gingerbread notes soften down and the sandalwood appears.I don`t know how wood can be molten, but that`s the impression it gives - hot, hot, hot!Also the honey accord is very natural - not honey in the jar, but with the notes of honey wax and something animalistic, may be the scent of a bee? I don`t feel much flowers here either - both lily and jasmine fade before spices, amber and sandalwood.
Who is it for? It is a fragrance for a woman herself.Though my husband seems to like it and I got some compliments already from friends both male and female - it is not a fragrance to seduce.Not in a physical way, anyway. May be it`s created to seduce souls...
I'd read the description and was excited about a perfume that was woody and musky but I found this overpowering and once it dried down, it had a smell that reminded me of musk and Bounce sheets.
It's hard to be present to what you're smelling with Sensuous. It purported to be oriental-woody, but it's much more, it's oriental, floral, fruity, woody and spicy, all at the same time.
It contains lily, magnolia, honey, vanilla notes; all of these have been problematic for me in just about any other fragrance I've tried, and generally turn incredibly strong and cloying on me. But Sensuous is so beautifully balanced, that it simply works on me.
The fragrance reveals its seductiveness with the amber, a fine, voluptuous floral accord and spicy note of pink pepper.
Sensuous is creamy and warm and its warmth and depth seem to be more suited for the colder months or for night time.
after one day of wearing it seems a little like Fumiere Turque from Serge Lutens.
These scents could be easily compared.
Sensuous has some smoky notes, but much more light pleasant and feminine than FT.
I feel like threr is incense in Sensuous.
However FT lasts longer.
Even being a Serge Lutens fan, in this case I prefer Estee Lauder!
Like it even more today!
I'm surprised!
Didn't expect it from EL. I love it!
Its spicy, woody and peppery warmth is so... never thought that I'd say that about Estee Lauder perfumes... UNIQUE!
congratulation to its creator!
only minus I see- I wish it were more natural, cos its a little bit artificial and sinthetic... and Bottle is too simple:)
but I bought a 50ml bottle anyway:)))
This is much better after it has dried down. I wouldn't give it too many points on uniqueness or creativity, b/c It was pretty boring on my skin, and I didn't get much wood like I wanted. But this would be perfect for those who want something sheer and subtle. Very nice and creamy on my skin. I will wear this to work during the day and love it.
I was skeptical about a "sharp" opening,but, itś true-itś opening is very sharpand unharmonious. The sharpness fades after 2 hours and then you can enjoy those opening notes of mandarin-and here it is at this point-at this moment- a very lovely combination of top notes complementing and enriching the middle notes, itś very fine-and very fleeting! This perfect combo of top and mid notes runs away- then you have the dry down.
You can spray again (yes, spray again) and then you only get the sharp top again! *sigh* The drydown is quite lovely however very typical, usual,normal, and i do believe a repeat- of current mainstream fragarances. I would wear the drydown as a perfume, itś very good. I would like to wear the perfume-with out the sharp opening. The perfume was not long lasting, and it is "light", compared to all other Estee Lauder perfumes.
I tried it today for the first time in Macy's. Spritzed a little on my wrist. At first, I was stunned by the harshness of it. The best word to describe it is acrid. I waited for it to die down a bit, and it did. I caught fleeting hints of an unidentifiable sweetness, it didn't last. As it dried down, it remained harsh, sticking in my nose in a painful burning way. I finally couldn't stand it anymore, and had to cut short my shopping expedition to go home and take a bath!
It is in the same league for me as Cashmere mist - a little harsh at first, but softening to a very feminine warm scent.I am trying to chose which to get - and it looks like Sensuous is losing. Though I love the overall spicy impression, it either has too much of something - pepper? - or lacks some important quality. I come to think it`s just not very original...
The first spray smell like a lot of orange peel ... maybe burning ... this is a hot bite for my nose... this note is quickly faded into a soft amber smell...
Its almost a delightful, warmth gust at the beginning ... but a little poor at the dry down in my opinion.
Also, its rare for me, because I sense the base notes like top notes, and vice versa
According to his promotion it was elaborated to show the most lukewarm and feminine side of a woman, emphasizing his force, smoothness and trusting character, and supporting the idea with the image of 4 different dressed women only with white shirts semi opened (the models Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Murphy and Elizabeth Hurley in the ranges of age of 20, 30 and 40 years respectively, more the actress Gwyneth Paltrow who is Esteé Lauder's official image). In the same Esteé Lauder's site( they emphasize that his aromatic notes are: jazmine, irises in the variety "Ghost Lily", magnolias, amber, mandarins, wood, black pepper and honey.
The item is something mixed, with floral notes and a sweet bottom with few fruits. At least of the floral mixture stands out a spicy soft note, as cinnamon. In average notes the floral ones tend to become free, differentiating at least a flower with one I stop between fruit-bearing and dry that he remindsa small peach. In average notes one feels an a bit denser flower, of the line of the magnolia, but with residues of mandarin that compensate the freshness. General intermingled tones of wood appear more a kind that does not look like a pepper and goes away more for the rind of nut moscada, cinnamon or even a type of green note. With the time it takes more presence and charges more intensity emphasizing the floral jazmine with a dense slightly strong flower (the magnolia tends to behave hereby) and a third flower with aroma of petals that reminds a concentrated water of roses with one I leave animal. In the final notes he supports a well-known intensity with a floral general mixing, where a moderately dense flower seems to stand out more than the rest. Of fund the honey feels a sweet of flowers, not as the classic aroma of the eatable honey, and they feel wood intermingled but repaid to the flowers.
The fragrance presents an almost floral pure style, with variations originated by the same flowers that make it range in slightly green, sweet or spicy tones ... she is not completely dense but she does not present fresh spring tones either, feeling atemporal with an inclination about the autumn or not cold winters. It has a style of diary in city, though in office he feels slightly dense ... it can wear shoes but one gives the different idea, of a more independent aroma inclined to the night use taking advantage of the concentration of her flowers and a stela best estimated in a moderately formal style. In the romantic aspect the aroma feels as a general mixing without particular notes that turn out to be attractive ... it is showy, but she leaves the sensation that she lacks this ingredient extra that it hooks and attracts or supports in suspense. I believe that the range of age between 25 and 60 years.
I love this fragrance.
But both my mom and dad hate it! (And my sister loves it, she steals it all the time...) My dad thinks it smells like cat urine, and my mom gets sneezing fits - so they have said that I shouldn't wear it around them :(
What I do now, is spray some on when I go to bed. It is a nice compromise, because this is such a sexy "evening" scent.
At first I was unsure. I can definitely smell the honey straight off, which I liked. This perfume lays very close on the skin. After awhile though, it smelled like burnt wet wood.
I don't think it's AT ALL sexy, though that's how it is being marketed.
It's not for me AT ALL. I tried this on my wrist at Macy's - and hated it. Then went to the Nordy Fragrance Festival and got a sample. I wore it to work today - still hate it. It's making my head spin a bit and my tummy turn. I like fresher natural scents then this. It's too puffy and warm for me. It's not the heaviest fragrance out there but it's not a light scent at all. With the honey basenote I was hoping to love it - but I think it's the amber/vanilla that is turning me off.
I have got it (finally!) and it is even better than it smelled in the shop... This is a very well-made perfume with delicate and harmonizing notes that unfold throughout the space of a couple of hours (although traces of it can linger around until the next day).
At first it is warm and very spicey - pepper and lots of ginger. After that there is a strong heart - sandlewood and oriental scents (not absolutley sure what they are...) Although it doesn't say it has sandlewood, it smells like it does - or at least it does on me, because both my mum and I could smell "sandlewood" for hours! Its base is warm and creamy - can definitely detect the amber and vanilla. A sweet note is there somewhere, but it is in the background and not too overpowering.
The other thing I have to say is that it's sexy. At the same time as making you feel self-confident, it makes you feel very sexual (some perfumes do - guess this one worked on me!) But I'm not sure it would do this to everyone... Like so many things it depends on the individual. But for me it is absolutely, 100% gorgeous!!
This smells very woodsy, smokey, and yet feminine. The lasting power is great. I think this is a great fall/winter scent. Not crazy about the bottle, it does look a little 70's, but that's ok. This will probably go on my Christmas Wish List this year. Try it!
I never was a big fan of Estee fragrances. And to be honest - never liked any of them. Until now...
When I first sprayed "Sensuous", it seemed way to sweet and heavy. but after few first munutes I couldn't stop shiffing my wrist. This great combination of wood, amber and honey just resently became my favorite. This is very warm and - yes, sensuous smell I will wear this winter.
Quite nice but I also felt it is lacking something, I mean for a feminine fragrance. It's more refreshing, to my nose it has the effect like a menthol and eases breathing, also I can smell some woody notes. It reminds me of Tresor with something.
Estee Lauder products were always a bit heavy to me, but remind me of the best of times at high school dances in the late 60s early 70s. I discovered this recently because of my love for amber. It is going to be one of my favorites. Long lasting. Love smelling it on my pillow. Yummy!
Sweet, woodsy warmth. It smells like Gucci Rush for Men, but softer and more feminine (no, not anything like Rush for Women). It's simple elegance. The black pepper and wood notes are very detectable on dry down, slightly spicy, but at first I smell the jasmine and lily. It works all year round, I would say. It's noticeable, yet inoffensive. I think it's a beautiful new creation for the perfume world! I find it something that can work for different women in different ways, very versatile. All at the same time, I feel like it is lacking something.
This had to grow on me, but now I really love it. When I first sprayed it, it was way too heavy. As time went on it dried down amazingly though! Very soft and not too bad in the heat. (Still more of a winter fragrance in my opinion, though) Now I can't go without it. Luckily for me, though, a friend is buying it for my birthday. I'm a lucky chick.
