The new fragrance by Estee Lauder – Sensuous, arrives in July 2008. This fragrance is moving the boundaries from already well known Estee Lauder floral notes towards opulent oriental woodsy-amber concept, which will praise the beauty and sensuality of women of all age.
Sensuous is created in cooperation with the nose Annie Buzantian of Firmenich, which composed it of sensual lily notes, magnolia and jasmine petals in the top. The heart brings aromas of molten wood and amber, while the base introduces sandalwood, black pepper, juicy mandarin pulp and honey.
The fragrance will be available as 30ml (1 fl.oz.), 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 100 ml (3.4 fl.oz) EDP, and 15 ml (0.5 fl.oz.) pure perfume, with matching fragrant body care collection.
The bottle draws attention with its simple, yet very elegant lines. It is made of heavy glass with waves, with rose-gold top and name imprinted in purple letters.
This design was selected for several reasons, including the intention of the designers to make it in line with pervious Estee Lauder editions.
The photographs were shot by Craig McDean. The ad faces for Sensuous will be Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy and Hilary Rhoda.

My list notes detected from top to down are (as I am the amateur) : wood + honey (both are same intensive and also softly balance), sandalwood, amber, flower (I don't know which one..), pepper,..., ...
I love it so much ! It's softly flowing into my sense. Can't stop sniffing my skin, soft and lasts for hours ! Very good quality.
Sensuous Noir is atop my list of favorite scents, so why does Sensuous smell so medicinal on me?? It does mellow down, but only to a damp woodsy earthy scent and very faint. May have to revisit, not ready to give up on it yet, but not a seasonal win for me......
Edit: It took the warmer weather for this to develop the way I had initially imagined! Warm, woody, sweet. The medicinal quality is no where near what I experienced several weeks ago....
honey ,peper ,wood,jasmine.....all things i love,this perfume is very glamour,rich ,opulant but................................................
it don't stay more than an hour on my skin.infortunetly.
Wrapped in the delicate honeyed aroma of Sensuous on this overcast Autumn day, marveling at the subtleties of the often elusive charms of this fine offering, I wonder how I did not yield sooner.
Sensuous sinks in, body and spirit, blending gentle peppered woods and dainty petals with finespun trickles of amber honey enhancing the alluring scent of clean skin.
A beautiful perfume made more special via the layering trio method.
This is one of my favorite perfumes that I own at the moment. It's womanly and feminine without being floral and heavy. Its honeyed sandalwood is what makes it so appealing and sensual... Which I guess is why it's called sensuous :D.
This fragrance isn't bombastic, nor is it shy. It's sneaky. It creeps up into the nostrils rather than flooding into them. It lays so well on the skin, which I think is one of the best qualities for a fragrance to have. It's not synthetic-smelling. It smells so natural and sexy. I've gotten nothing but compliments on this one.
I will say, if you are the type to gravitate toward laundry scents or fruity florals, this one might not be for you. It's for a woman who owns her sexuality, but doesn't flaunt it. It's classically sexy.
Sensuous was at one point the only fragrance I would ever wear. I had so many other options to choose from, but for that period of time nothing else even came close to being as perfect or as Beautiful as Sensuous. It should be called Hypnosis because people really love this fragrance. I'm a guy and I wear this fragrance and STRAIGHT MEN were complimenting me, telling me how delicious I smelt (Awkward). WOMEN love this fragrance as well when I wear it. I think because its one of the very few Estee Lauder fragrances that have been composed both thoughtfully and with a minimal approach.
The woodiness of this fragrance may put some people off, but its the honey that really amps up the sensual factor of this fragrance, it seems to soak the woods, making them sticky and dripping with that beautiful natural scent of Honey, its enough to make you bite your bottom lip in hunger or as an act of Sensuality.
Now I am also very ANTI-PEPPER when it comes to fragrances, I absolutley hate Peppery fragrances, but in Sensuous the Black pepper seems to work, because it's not very visible to my nose, I can't smell it as much which is fantastic because after a few times I came to realise that the Pepper is only there to act as a fuel for creating depth in the fragrance. It provides a kind of darkness that makes this scent all the more appealing to me and my tastes in fragrance.
When it drys down you can detect the beautiful delicateness of Jasmine, Magnolia and Lily. These three floral components make a soft and quiet entrance letting the woods and honey still steal the show. The drydown is creamy, beautiful sweet and simply; FABULOUS! The projection of sensuous is wonderful and the staying power will see you through til the next morning. Definetly Everyone should go out and give this a sniff. Its utterly wonderful.
For a modern perfume I actually quite like this scent; it's got a few unique aspects like mixing in the sharp scent of pepper with the creamy scent of honey. I am proud of Estee Lauder for finally coming out with something that doesn't make me smell like a baked good, where many new modern 'spicy, woodsy' perfumes do; it's actually fairly sophisticated and surprisingly complex.
If you like unique and spicy fragrances that dry down to a truly lovely warm, almost skin musk; then you should certainly give this a try.
....warmth in a bottle! It must be the honey! Beautiful..
I'm surprised that Sensuous has been voted here as sandalwood-honey scent for the most part, as I, personally, find it to be more of a "lily" fragrance. It's a woody lily, with a touch of honey; sandalwood seems to play a supporting role, adding the "milkiness" quality to the scent.
Overall, Sensuous is not bad, a bit heavy-handed (as many of EL seem to be), good for winter/colder days.
I really thought I had found my mainstream sandalwood scent, but the combination of magnolia(which I do not like) and honey is too sweet for me. It they would eliminate the magnolia, I would definitely go back. This is however very evident on the sandalwood, which is of good qaulity and well used in this scent, but too sweet for me.
I personally think that the mandarin orange is a bit stronger, I can definitely smell the honey in there! A sweet and refreshing perfume suitable for everyday use!
I am in love! While grieving for an other scent that was taken off the market I luckily found a similar scent like Annam by Tan Giudicelli that I loved over all perfumes: bitter and sweet and woody and very cozy. Sensuous is very related to Annam.
There are fragrances that smell like fruit lollipop (Escada Taj sunset)
Fragrances that smell like clean laundry (Balenciaga Paris)
Fragrances that smell like a flower garden (Beautiful Love) etc...
For me Sensuous smells like a woman. A young and confident woman. Not aggressive and impressive like Black Orchid - which I admire but can't handle right now, but friendly and down to earth instead.
It's a very cozy and radiant skin scent. Subtle but still noticeable.
Flowers are in the background, contribute to the whole composition and let the wood, sandalwood, amber, pepper take the first place. Honey brings everything together and softens the overall impression which is by no means cloying. Mandarin orange adds a touch of freshness. Everything blends seamlessly, very well done... On me it doesn't really change as time goes by but still, it's too unique to get bored.
Silage and longevity are fine - not amazing and I tend to wear this when the weather is a bit cold and I need a little confidence boost to leave my bed in the morning and face the world again!
Enjoy!
I have tried wearing Sensuous many times, but it seems to wear me. My wee nephews have told me twice while wearing it, that I smell like a candle. Now to them that was not an insult or a complement, just a fact. Of course, they have told me with Montale's Sweet Oriental Dream, I smell like cake. Put in the simpliest terms, candles and cake are really nice smells, but are they really what a woman desires to convey as her fragrance wafts across the room?
The picture of it is pretty and has appeal, but the scent itself not so much. I found it to be very powdery smelling and quite strong. I don't know, I tend to be picky with scents, but being 22 years old I did not think it was suitable for someone youthful.
'American Elegance' in a bottle. Just picture leggy athletic women in caramel cashmere coats and leather boots lounging by a stone fireplace cozing up with a vast span of luxurious fabric.
It's a nice woody smell with a touch of honey. I got mostly wood/sandalwood, honey was very subtle for me. It's nice but I don't think it's too distinctive, even for a skin scent. Sensuous Noir is more my style, Sensuous Noir has something new to bring to the table..
This is a nice smelling Fragrance but I don't think it smells very "Sensuous"...Its more of a warm calm scent. I would not peg this in the whole sexy scent category at all. I think the honey in this fragrance makes it a more innocent scent. I would expect an older lady to wear this perfume. After awhile of it being on my skin ,it gave me a slight headache actually so maybe its just my skin Chemistry.
I think this would smell beautiful on a person more suited to it but its not something I'd rush out and buy though.
I share an unrequited love of this fragrance. I love it but it doesn't love me. It just doesn't agree with my skin chemistry. I think it's the honey that doesn't like me, but I digress. Out of the bottle it's a beautiful woody composition accented with gorgeous sandalwood, jasmine and honey. Very feminine and comforting with a VERY subtle hint of spice. It's sexy!
I find the entire sensuous line shares something in common with Bronze Goddess. They all have some sort of baby wipe quality about them. While Sensuous Noir is the best, they are still well-crafted scents.
unbelievable. Found the scent being classy, making me feel VEEERY feminine, not too sweet, not to woody, not too aggressive but very characteristic and at once, not that popular like I can smell it on every 5th met woman on the street;] yet good for all season!!! It's like my versace crystal noir but more daily/ spring/ early autumn version. Takes me to the fields of gold, forest, nature. Absolutely what I was searching for, very mine!
I really like it but it has such a familiar smell that I couldn't put my finger on, then after a few days it hit me. When I was little and my parents were still together this is how my dad smelled after a shower, its very similar to what cologne he wore at the time, or his shampoo, soap or something he used. So for that reason I probably wont buy this I don't want old memories attached to my perfume, I am cleaning out my perfumes this year and want all NEW stuff, no memory perfumes. 2012 is gonna be great and deserves all new smells and memories. :-)
Oh, what a gem! Sensuous is a real silage monster and the lasting power is to die for!
I have purchased it in blind and you can't go worng with it - it is very deep and rich, sensual and powerful.
After initial application i was mesmerized, I couldn't help but kept my eyes closed, I haven't felt as good for a long time now.
The sandalwood, amber, honey and magnolia are the perfect combo - it seems like all the ingredients have been mixed up in perfect proportions.
Sensuous has got a great potential to become my signature scent, it possesses all the qualities, perfect projection, ideal notes balance, it truly makes me feel special.
Sensuous is a must have for oriental woody lovers.
10/10.
A definite winner.
A perfect winter fragrance.
A gem.
This perfume starts with a strong sweet orange scent, I think the sweetness is from the honey and then I can smell something similar to frankincense or more in line with louban,which is not listed as one of the notes, this could be the pepper.The top notes are very sweet and can be offputting but then this perfume settles as a lovely, slightly sweet sandalwood/amber/honey scent. This is a nice fragrance and lasts over 10 hours on my skin. It has a strong sillage that is mainly sandalwood.
The top notes make my head ache but once it settles in,the middle n base notes are actually pleasant n remind me of ORGANZA by GIVENCHY,which is actually one of my favorite perfumes.
Lovely woody fragrance, but i do not considere it original.
It has great staying power, I tried it yesterday and I could still smell it on my wrist this morning.
This perfume work with your body PH ....it reacts to your skin in such a way that it almost become part of your body scent. I like it and I would suggest get a sample before buying it and wear it for 2-3 days ... on your skin and clothes...makes a huge difference.
absolutely horrible on me - was recommended it for my wedding and tried it in a store - was almost sick as it developed, and even as I tried to wash it of - it stayed on me for AGES!
It's a grown up woman fragrance. It's a little bit sweet, very dry, chic, not strong, and I don't know but I can say smells like rich people. Definitely I love !
For me this is one of those perfumes you like, you buy and after 2-3 weeks says nothing to you..
TODAY I BOUGHT THIS SENSUOUS PERFUME.IT SMELLS YUMMY AND SENSUAL. THE NAME SPEAKS FOR IT SELF. SIMPLY GORGEOUS. LOVE IT.
Sensuous is kind of like a sweeter version of santal blush without any of that awful cumin. I agree with what almost everyone else has written--it's the wonderful creaminess that makes it such a pleasure to wear. I think Estée Lauder has already used the name "pleasure" for another perfume, but that might be more appropriate for this one. Unlike most reviewers here, I actually do not find Sensuous to be all that "sensuous". It's more pleasurable in a comforting, yummy sort of way. The honey is definitely a nice addition that adds to the warm glow. I' m assuming that the sandalwood is synthetic because of all the restrictions now, but it smells pretty good. Certainly better than the sandalwood in the current samsara. This is, more or less, what I had hoped santal blush would be (actually, the scent coming from SB sample vials is heavenly. I have a desk drawer at work that still smells like them. But it gets really Indian restaurant on my skin).
I know I always go back to this....unisex? I think that's pushing it. Sensuous is pretty floral (SB less so, I think). But I'm glad to see I'm not the only guy wearing this. Although I wouldn't care if I were. I love it and get real enjoyment from wearing it.
I mean this in the most respectful way but, it smells like pencil shavings to me.
Different !
Starts off on me like strawberry jam on toast, Mmmm
Then its the magnolia I get the most until the wood , pepper and honey takes over, its pretty sweet in the beginning and turns more soft and powdery at the base. The perfume is really nice, very wearable and stays a long time with your body. It almost resembles a suntan oil I had a long time ago and that makes me think of a warm breeze at the beach !
Could probably very easy turn into someones signature,
It was a long time since I had an Estee perfume, and by that time, in the late eighties and early nineties, they were very different from this...
I like this Estee Lauder better, warm, sexy and close to skin !
But - I couldn´t get over the fact that on me this was a bit synthetic and didnt merge with my body the way I wanted it to, I could always feel it around me and I dont like that. I am sad , because its a really nice scent. I swapped it..
It's one of the best sandalwoody fragrances lately in my opinion, without too much edge or masculine feeling to it. I can see the comparing to Samsara, the drydown is very close to it according to my (untrained) nose. I enjoy Sensuous more (Samsara's top notes are more '80's like' to me, I like and respect it but can't love it). Sensuous is more modern and more linear to me (it's not a problem in this case - it's linear good), I mainly feel sandalwood, magnolia and (not too sweet) honey with pepper. It's warm and inviting, I associate it with a woman of poise and contentment, it should be called 'Good life'. Longevity (6-8 hours) and sillage are pretty good but not in a disturbing way.
..and finally - here I am. I'm in love with this one. Great - longlasting, wonderful, deep, supersexy, womanish scent. A hint of woodsy note, a hint of spicy's, deep grownup flowers. Its not a loud scent - but yet intesive, it just wiffs around me. One of my top 5 favourites.
..och äntligen, här e jag. Älskar denna doften. Underbar. Håller länge på huden, djup, varm, supersexig, superkvinnlig. HIntar av träiga toner, hintar av kryddor. Djupa vuxna blomnoter. Inga sockersöta doftnoter. ingen högljudd doft men ändå intensiv. Underbara doftslöjor omringar mig. En av mina top 5 dofter.
The most sandalwooody fragrance I have yet to try. The rather sweet honey soon wears off leaving strong sandalwood- which I like- but I think I want something where the sandalwood is there but less domaninant. Similar to the current Body Shop Ginger and Sandalwood Spray/Frangrance oil.
Great perfume with a really matching name: sensuous.
It's the only perfume I've tried so far that has this clear, yummy, dominant honey note. So for me it's a honey perfume enriched with delicate white flower notes. Soft, conforting but in the same time sensual and sexy.
I absolutely love this perfume. I'm not good with detecting notes as some are on this site, all I can say that this fragrance makes me feel very... (o.k not going to be very original).. but it truly makes me feel sensuous.
When I saw the bottle I wasn't impressed or inclined to try it. I love a bottle that looks like a piece of art, and this bottle is quite simple... but as with so many things one should not judge a book by it's simple yet sophistacted cover (or should I say bottle). The lady at the shop sprayed it on my wrist and from the 1st smell/spray I was sold... Obsessed I should say! I just had to have it!
Imagine you are lying on a bed in an old colonial house on a humid summer day in one America's southern states. A lone bumble bee taps at the window. Lazy linen cutains sway in the breeze. The faint smell of wilting roses slides in the air and downstairs a maid is cooking a heavy pot of sweet, thick vanilla toffee.
I have always loved the scent of a workshop. When the jigsaw cuts through a board it creates a distinct hot (not quite burned) wood smell that I really enjoy. Sensuous is that exact feeling and it makes me so happy!
I loved the ad campaign for this about how do you wear your white shirt? very clever as this fragrance is as individual as it's wearer, full of cinnamon and spice, very autumnal and christmassy, reminds me of mince pies, very sensual I prefer this original fragrance to the Noir and Nude versions.
One word and it's not really a word. Mmmm.
I have had this perfume since it's debut in 2008. I am writing this review now because my time on Fragrantica has made me realize what this really is....My Signature. I probably wear it the most and I get the most compliments on this one.
I hadn't paid much attention to Estee Lauder (nothing wrong with Estee, it's a great brand) but the ad campaign on this was to die for and really caught my attention. I loved the simplicity and the suggestion that every woman wears it her way. Simplicity is elegance to me and every woman is unique...even in the classic white menswear button down.
So I tested the perfume at the counter and loved it right away. I went to the counter to "test" some for several days before I bought it.
My first impression was the white floral top note which is very fleeting but so feminine and then maybe two minutes later the citrus and woody notes come in and stay throughout the day, intermittenly I get the ambery honey peppered nuances. It wears close to the skin and remains feminine although woody and "light" but does have decent sillage because I am told quite often that I smell nice when I wear it.
It does happen that I get different impressions at different times. Sometimes this has reminded me of a shampoo?!?! I don't mind that because try as we might I have heard that sometimes it is the simplest most overlooked scent that people will identify as smelling like you. I have been reminded of cinnamon buns, sweet, honeyed. I have been reminded of campfires, smokey, peppery.
It can also feel very different depending on the material you wear...honestly...wearing satiny/silky clothes and this is devine. A different feel from the chunky sweater...which is also quite nice and comforting...a different feel from businesswear, I'd take it seriously if I smelled it on someone...and even in cocktail dresses it intrigues people as it is not a common floral or fruity scent. However it works in all cases. Maybe it responds to moods or changes in chemistry but it brings all these things together so that all that is left, the common denominator is you.
When I have my perfumes out and friends/family sniff my collection, everyone has picked this up and remarked, "this one smells like you".
Highly highly recommend you try it. I'm glad that I did.
I will never be without it. And while I do wear and love other things...this is my go to, don't even think about it, every day, every occasion scent.
Beautiful! I always feel like a sophisticated lady when I wear this. It's fresh, clean with interesting honey and spice coming through to turn it into something other than a boring floral. The pepper definitely is noticeable on my skin, which I love. Very different from what I normally wear so I had to visit it a few times to decide whether it's me or not. I love it now and get a giddy rush whenever I smell it!
Have you ever rushed to get a term paper finished, and you're basically satisfied with it when you turn it in, and maybe even receive high marks, but later on when you re-read it, you see areas where it could've been so much better, if only you'd had more time to perfect it? You know, when you want a do-over?
Having first experienced Sensuous Noir before Sensuous, I feel like Sensuous Noir is a do-over of Sensuous. As though it was eating away at the creator that Sensuous could've been better - a little more special and dramatic, deeper, richer and more memorable.
When I was a little girl, my father used to smell exactly like this. I think it is unisex,the woody side is very intensive.
this smells amazing! soft and sheer my first thought. I get lots of honey, soft watery flowers,-magnolia, crisp mandarin, soft musk and hint of spice. Very feminine perfume, simply astounding!
It's a mood lifter too:)
amber amber amber, it's all about amber with sensuous what a beautiful soft (nose friendly) amber... imagine a lady with a cashmere sweater and bootcut pants and van cleef necklace wearing this... could she get any classier ;)
Sensuous is just that! A warm, sensual,cashmere wrap - enveloping you gently in a gentle woodsy, honeyed perfume - enriched with sandalwood. pepper and amber. Slightly gourmand with the honey note - and, I feel, could be slightly sickly for some noses!
I don't seem to get any of the jasmine accord which my skin usually amplifies to screech level and I really cannot smell the other floral accords. There is a feint mandarine in the background but I am pushed to find it as the honey seems to be the most predominant note on my skin!
Definitely a 'safeish' fragrance - doesn't scream 'look at me' in any way; however, it isn't a shrinking voilet either. I think some might find it monotonous but I just find it soothing and enveloping! And vastly different to EL's other fragrances.
I prefer this for autumn/winter - I think it would be too cloying during the warmer months and could turn sickly very easily in the heat!
Overall a good buy, fairly long-lasting with an average silage. Sits pretty close to the skin after an hour or two and would need maybe one top up during the day!
I've never liked any Estee Lauder fragrance before, so I don't know what made me give this a try, just for frivolous fragrance fun, I suppose :} At the time I first smelled it, my general preference was for sweet gourmand perfumes, so there was definitely the "this is....different" moment. Not bad, but very much "not me". But the more I caught whiffs of the tester strip, the more I kept thinking "this is SOOOOO yummy", not in my usual sweet, want to eat cupcakes way, but its just so warm and creamy and smooth. After a while, I developed an unusual mental association with this fragrance, to me it smells sexual. Musky but clean, woody/raw, with just a hint of sweetness. I can't smell it now without thinking about that. So this is my go-to perfume when that mood strikes, but it also conjures up images of autumn, being in forests with the sun streaming through the trees and a gentle whisper of coolness in the air. This will always be in my collection.
my mom gave for my birthday.and i loveee it.so sweet,warm and log lastind.Many of my friends ask what perfume are you wearing.and my boyfreind love my smell so much.
I love this! Warm, comforting, not at all overwhelming.The kind of fragrance that plays it safe while adding minimal spice, it's not one of those obscenely,sensual animal-types...(don't get me wrong those are good too)but if you are on overload with that type of thing this brings you down nicely all in time for winter!! I want to spritz and drape a throw over me so I can just inhale myself in this.
I find this perfume pretty interesting since it develops its smell according to the natural smell of the skin. It is a woody scent, I can also notice honey and mandarin...It was given to me twice as a present, at first I thought it was unusual for my type and preferences but gradually I have fallen in love with it. Distinctive and sexy, it is neither forgettable nor common.However, its lasting power has let me down.
Vale Evelyn Lauder - a life well lived - not just for yourself but for others as well. Beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Alexandrarae South Australia
warm and cozy cashmere scent, only for winter.
This is indeed what the name implies ... it's also beautiful, yummy, calming, well balanced, long lasting, classy but not in a stuffy way.
Love this as well as it's predecessors..'nude' and 'noir', all very well done, and unique enough to constitute a new name but still similar enough to be related. May be one of the best lines of perfume out there tody.
Very happy with my purchases. This and noir I most definently plan on purchasing again.
The bottles are lovely and actually feel a bit sensual, almost feel like polished stones with one side being grovved, wonderful, reminds me of spa stones :)
I respect the perfume, but it just doesn't work on me. A little too wooddy. I felt like my chest was pressed hard, so hard that it's difficult for me to breath. I could feel a little headache afterward. If it had another scent to lift up the weight, then I think it'd work on me. I saw that a lot of people like it/love it, so I guess I'm one of a few who has trouble :)
I am looking for Theorema and this one is quite close, but it lacks the full warmth, dark and depth of Theorema. It also has a very short life on me, but the chemist put the body lotion on me and then the perfume and that has made it last all day. I do really like it, as it is almost Theorema, but just not quite.
Feminine, sexy but somewhat linear. Beside the honey I smell a lot of jasmine. Like all other Estee Lauder fragrances I have experienced its strong stuff, which I like, altho I don't enjoy any other EL frags nearly so much as Sensuous. I really want to try Noir and Nude now.
I've tried Sensuous today after a long time of not-trying ;) and I guess my taste has changed since a year ago, when I liked Sensuous very much, nowadays I find it unique but uneasy to wear.
Really, the fragrance IS unique, I don't know anything very similar to Sensuous - unless Bvlgari BLV II, which is similar in climate but different.
Sensuous is smokey-honey-ish, it drips and drips and drips... it may cause monotony and in fact the fragrance is somewhat monotonous. It seems there's a lot of benzoin in there but I can't see it listed. The scent is sharp and mild altogether, loud and quiet... it isn't calm, it pretends to be though.
Sensuous has a great lasting power and is powerful, close to being a killer ;) I can't see any tobacco in notes but I can sniff something like that, also a mature pear. Sensuous isn't sexy either. It's like a warm wool sweater that can 'bite" a bit - the sweater, cigarettes, bed, duvet and autumn!
Bottle looks fine.
definetly a woody smell very beautiful underton too good oriental-woody
It's definitely spicy and has an incense character to it. The base notes are outstanding but the florals are there. It's almost allspicy to me and I think it definitely translates unisex but I think it would also make a good men's fragrance. I loved it when I first bought it because I really like orientals, but lately I find it overpowering, maybe because I've been wearing lighter perfumes. The synthetic fragrance is a bit noticeable to me. Still I like the idea of this one.
I find it sooo mature and overwhelming...it was a blind buy based on reviews here and I can't say that I am deeply disappointed - no, it's a lovely perfume, but for someone over 35.
Very monotonous fragrance. It starts with very sweet, candied orange peel and does not change much as it develops. Does it actually develop at all?. Well, not really. It does get softer and a bit more cosy, but I can't smell any other notes joining in. Honey? Maybe a drop or two, but it's rather on the artificial side. Woodsy notes? Sorry to say that, Estee, but I can't detect any. Sensuous is rather flat, uninspired and anything but sensuous.
Don't get me wrong: it's a pleasant fragrance, but it is NOT a great perfume, if you know what I mean. I'd rather use it as a room or linen spray than as perfume.
Lovely and feminine.
lovely perfume
this perfume rocks my world!!
Skipping the chilly tropical opening, it performs linearly for the rest on a floral fruity aquatic tone more on mandarin and sweet citruses. This scent deserves the best seller IMO.
It's soft, kind, vibe, smooth and romantic. It's not a teenager choice while it's so girly too.
Only the sweet fluffy tone smells a little shampoo'ish but not disturbing or low level.
Projection and longevity are just great. But it's not a sexy item making men's mouth watery! Just admirable.
Oh Sensuous, I might have to give you another chance. You see, first I tried it on my skin and liked it, but was undecided and wanted to give other fragrances a try. So the next time I was at a perfume store I tried it on a paper strip. But then, all I could smell was... nutmeg. It smelled like a huge bunch of nutmeg and nothing else. Guess it was the sweet peppery notes that gave that impression to me. And I really don't wanna go around smelling like just nutmeg so I warded it off.
But today I tried it again on my wrist, and it's so much better on skin! As it dries down, it becomes much softer, a lovely skin scent, and I love a good skin scent. Warm and discreetly sexy. Definitely getting a bottle of this.
Edit: It's been 8 hours and it still has a strong scent. I'm sorta getting tired of it actually. Lesson learned: spray lightly, it'll last a long time anyway!
It's a typical autumn, warm scent. It makes you lazy and want to put your covers up and go to sleep. It's a bit masculine and I swear I can smell tobacco here. At first I loved it, nowadays I'm a bit torn. It's like a dirty sweet honey ;)
I absolutely love this! My 6 year old daughter has a tiny tester bottle that was given to her by my husband (who has worked at estee), and I am soooo jealous! It is wasted on a child!!! (and she won't share). It is warm, cosy and comfy- I so want it and will e buying it this autumn for sure!!!
This fragrance and I started out as an uneasy alliance (I had two GWP sizes). Rather like a work colleague that one must 'put up' with on a regular basis, I neither liked nor loathed this fragrance. Then one day, the truce subsides and one realises suddenly that they have gotten slowly and imperceptibly under one's skin. In time, the uneasy alliance gives way to real affection and even loyalty. And so it is with Sensuous.....
Sensuous is a lovely perfume, near-skin scent but definitely better than a typical skin scent (be it musk-dominant or light floral like Chloe or so). A bit gourmand mandarins mixed with honey escorted by fuzzy comfy woody and a bit spicy background makes the start of Sensuous really easy yet charming in a nice way. This is the first Estee Launder perfume that doesn’t give me a headache (the other ones I’ve tried are Pleasures and its flankers, Pure White Linen, Beyond Paradise and Beautiful Love), and in fact, it’s rather pleasant and confidence-boosting, it’s a bit like aromatherapy blend but finer and perfume-y.
It’s rather linear, with the sweet-fuzzy-comfy-woody aspect gets more and more perfectly matched to your skin til it becomes smooth and a bit creamy (nothing tropical or vanilla cake batter), and in the end if settles to sweet amber-y musky skin scent.
Love it, Sensuous is like a grown up version of any fine vanilla perfume without vanilla. It is not sexy in the sugar bomb or sweet floral way, but it’s really sexy in a somewhat romantic, knowing, understanding manner.
I’m a fan of Chinatown and I have to say that after I discovered Sensuous, I find Sensuous can easily replace my Chinatown in many situations when I find Chinatown was a bit too much, as well as being a easy go-to scent for daytime.
Worth trying, and easily a FB-worth one to me :)
Funny thing happened today.
My co-worker started to follow me and walked behind me quite fast. Then I heard a long and loud sniff and big "Aaaaaahhhh!".
I had to stop, turn around and take a look at her with big question-facial expression. She came closer and took me by my shoulders and sniffed my neck.
"What are you wearing!? It smells so lovely! How on earth, does it smell so nice!?" and then she walked away,looking happy with a big smile and laughter.
I was stunned.
Was it that good?!
Sensuous. It is my autumn splendour. Makes me feel comfortable and relaxed. Soft and glorious for the cold winter, like the softest pashmina.
And for you all vanilla-haters: Sensuous doesn't have any of it! It's honey.
Enjoy!
This is such an easy pretty scent. Just the right amount of everything. The opening is floral, magnolia and jasmine to me, tempered honey and woody notes. As the flowers soften, the woody notes bloom, especially the sandalwood. The dry-down is the flowers and woods, with a rather vanilla like sweetness in the background and a hint of creamy white pepper.
Sensuous has a relaxed kind of elegance to it, a beautiful daily fragrance. This is femininity and grace in a bottle. It's the kind of thing worn by a woman who is effortlessly beautiful and polished, as a day-time go to. It exceeded my expectations.
Sensous is a fine, casual sexy fragrance for a modern lady. It is quite easy to like because is not too mutch of anything really, not too floral, not to woody or not to smoky. I cant feel a personality in this perfume but just a easy scent, thats very wearable and likable. I cant see anybody hating this perfume. The top notes that are listed here are not consistant with what I get, first Sensuous reminds me a bit of a spicy tea, with notes that are sweet and salty. Than it develops to a floral woody where the woods are sweetened by the honey wich is very aromatic.
This scent can be a little bit strong, a small spray goes a long way.
Sensous fits someone who wants to be noticed and that wants to give an image of style and feminity, although I think this perfume is not very natural has it tryes to hard if you know what i mean.
Its a good fragrance and I would like to have it in my collection has a perfume to wear when I'm not inspired.
It kind of belongs to that category of perfumes nowadays that tend to be femine but have a strange notion of what it means, but I guess thats just because I'm a fan of the classics.
Anyway, a good one for a woman in her 20's.
5.5/10
Hm.. this is very different from anything i have in my wardrobe i think. it is soft ,almoust like clouds getting warm out off the drying machine. comfy,sensuel..A bit off warm honey, gental gental, but still there,sandelwood for shure.Peppery maybe a bit o sharp in that apartment. Gental florals. but the other notes are stronger so this flowers just lingers.
This to me feels like the smell off warm skin, Soft elegant and sensuel. this cant offend anybody i think..
But i still dont think this is my kind off perfume:)
This one is sooooo delicious...and then it becomes sexy and warm...and lasts ages...i love it
Oh, well... The idea is really nice and this perfume could have been so good with a clever mix of honey and amber. However, even though it's pleasant, it's so flat and boring! And it lasts forver, unchanging and monotonous. I used up my mini and would never invest in a full bottle.
I love this perfum, the note that attracts me is the molten woods and creamy effect it has on me. I detect the honey and jasmine and my husband who is a fan of this fragrance can't stop smelling my neck when i have sprayed it on. It really is special to me. I can only recommend it when you like woody notes.
I'm so disappointed with this... just more proof that my skin no longer holds scent the way it used to.
I get none of the soft, warm aspects of this fragrance the way so many others do. All I get is a sharp blast of sandalwood and soap. Total bummer.
This is a perfume that has sort of a sentimental value for me. The second I smelled it, it reminded me of my mother, who had passed away a few years earlier. It's a very warm, and welcoming scent for me. Nobody else in my life seems to love it as much as I do, but I wear it all the time because it gives me a sort of reminiscent happiness.
I really like Men in Love's review below about Sensuous and I really love this perfume too!
On me, Sensuous has a distinct toffee caramel, warm syrupy, creamy, soft kind of sense which is quite addictive and sexy in a smooth, comforting kind of way, not in a vampy, killer heel, low top, in-your-face way! It lasts for a long time on my skin too and leaves a subtle trail so I get little whiffs of it when I'm moving around. When I'm in perfume sections of department stores this is one of the perfumes I find myself gravitating towards yet again to have a couple of spritzes! The only downside to this perfume for me, if there is one at all, is that the bottle to me looks a bit cheap and tacky (unlike, say, the Bronze Goddess bottle which is very nice!) but that's just a small thing and the perfume is so nice that it really doesn't matter what the bottle is like at all!
5 out of 5 from me for this lovely perfume, and I really must get a bottle of this for myself soon!
Although it isn't one of my absolute favorites, I admire this perfume because it is truly such a chameleon. It smells different on everyone I know, and instead of blaring its name, it softly and warmly insinuates and its way into the nasal passages, the way a graceful hostess might direct the conversation between her dinner guests. It frames the sensuality of each individual woman who wears it, the little black dress of any collection. The honey is soft but perceptible, and the lily and jasmine are sweet without being overpowering. Delightfully understated.
I like this one when I use it on my clothes but not when I spray it on my skin (smells more sweet/honey). I'm not sure why I do that, but I think I like it. Sensious is a different and an interesting perfume.
I really like the middle and base notes, I'm 17 am I too young to this perfume? :)
Listen to 'Closer' by Kings of Leon and you just know how Sensuous smells.
to me this smells like the bark has just been removed & the sun is beating down on this light colored clean molten bare wood almost like a dry sauna & i smell white honey also creamy cashmere maybe white amber rosewood also black pepper & yumm it just smells bare warm feminine clean cozy i love it . . . . .
One of the few floral female scents that has an edge of sexiness to it.
Projects well and I had to ask the wearer what this scent was
Good Stuff
it's my winter scent :)
This is likely a beautiful sexy smelling jewel on many people. :0) I hoped it could work for me too, it smell nice and light at first spray ... but ... After 2 hours of applying it at Ulta, it had below ave/ no lasting power on my arm or w my chemistry even after reapplying. It was not meant for me. I might have to try the Noir to determine if it has same affect on me too. My Estee favs which are more accepting to my chemistry are Tuscanny Per Donna, Dazzling Gold.
This perfume is so feminine but has a bit of masculanity to it..Seriously The AD explain this perfume really well.
It smell like a woman wearin her guy's shirt in the morning. she can smell her perfume from last night and a bit of his perfume from his shirt too. they both are stuck on her skin now and makin her think of the night before. Its beautiful.
I can't believe this is Estee Lauder...beautiful...I am having a tough time detecting a huge difference between this and Noir, but I'd say this is slightly more floral/sweet. Both are awesome.
Well...this is just delicious!I'm not much of a gourmand lover (as I don't like eating sweet things alot), so when I crave something more than flowers and bergamote I learned that I should go to the woody range. Moschino Couture, Rochas Absolu, Gevenchy Couture, Trussardi Inside, Burberry Classic, and now this...they manage to fill the gap between me and gourmand fragrances.
It is delicate, yet it has a sweet white flowery (the magnoliais a star here) spicy edge, just enough to make you want to get a waft of it on yourself every minute. Has a clean vibe and might not be a fragrance that would kick you in the face with character, but it's hard not to love it really.
The sillage is compelling and then softens a bit, excellent longevity. If you want something edible without being sugary - Sensuous and the above mentioned might be your thing. After wearing this for a week at the seaside I find it easy to wear, comforting and sultry but somewhat joyful with a notable gourmand-ish side (Lolita Lempicka L is somewhat similar but more smoky and way sweeter). Now that fall came, it reminds me of how the summer sun was warming my tanned shoulders, salty vapors in the air, hot sand arround.
Conservative, old-feeling???I don't think so. This is a careless honey-vanilla white cloud reminiscent of bluebird sunlit days and perfect for winter time as it brings endless warmth. Maybe it also smells like cookies. I've been complimented many times when wearing it, even by strangers.
The bottle is beautiful and nice to hold, the tactile elements on the back of it emulate carved and polished wood. Its not too heavy and is easy to carry around in your bag, even though you probably won't find yourself reapplying until the evening.
On me EL Sensuous has powdery scent that can be a unisex perfume as it smells quite masculine too.
I bought this after I went to have my makeup done at an Estee Lauder counter, and the sales assistant asked me if I wanted her to spray some on me. She sprayed once on my neck and off I went. Weather was pretty warm, bordering on getting quite humid and for the next 5 hours or so I kept getting lovely wafts of a beautiful fragrance unlike any I had tried before.
I bought myself the full size two christmas's ago, in a set with body lotion and a small purse spray. However, I can never bring myself to wear it, I just really dislike it now and I have no idea why! I'm hoping it will grow on me again, but for now it just sits in my collection next to the lotion and purse spray, barely used. I also smelt in on a woman on the train a few weeks ago, and could place it instantly, and couldn't stop thinking how strange it smelt, and that it's definitely more of a mature woman's scent. I guess I just don't care for it.
I finally got SENSUOUS... yes I love Stee Lauder fragrances!!!
As many of you has said, it is a beautiful scent. I always wear my perfumes to bed and on the weekends (where I work fragrances are not allowed :(( )...and as many of you might already know, fragrances can get "lost" while you sleep. Well, I'm glad to say that I still smell and feel SENSUOUS!!!
I would recommend it... even though I ALSO want the NOIR.
I love this- it's so warm and soft, sweet and innocent smelling, would wear on a cold winters afternoon for snuggling in front of an open fire. Would make a perfect winter signature scent.
It's a very soft musc woody kind of fragrance, easy to wear, I prefer this one than the sensuous noir.
Hi.
The fragrance of romance and escape.when you wear this scent ,you will definitely want to dress sexy because you will feel sexy just be wearing this scent.It has a delicacy and an edge. Delicious,Delicate,Creamy, Enchanting,Addictive,Feminine,Lovely and Amiable.
SENSUOUS is feminine and young with a luscious floral scent in the top notes that bursts with woody notes and then wraps you in the warmth of sensual honey that works with your body chemistry to create a lovely and sensuous scent.
A nice everyday scent too can be worn with jeans or while all dressed up.SENSUOUS is not at all overpowering yet it stays with you when you wear this scent.one of those fragrances that is suitable for women of all ages however i recommend it to Young and Modern lady.perfect for AUTUMN/WINTER.
Sillage?Lovely.
Longevity?Above average on my skin.
7/10
I's light creamy peppery scent for daily use.Hardly I can smell it after an hour of wearing it.
Mysterious and sexy. The smell lasts long, so never put too much on or you'll get tired of it.
I got a 1 oz. as a gift with my other purchases. Quite interesting....my first impression: a piece of freshly cut wood smothered in honey. A floral bouquet comes through in a about 30 minutes, but the honey-sweet note stays all the way through.
I don't consider it complex or sophisticated, rather a casual fragrance for colder weather. Could also work in early spring.
Sillage and lasting power are excellent!
Im not a fan of EL fragrances, but I definitely like this one. That being said, i am not excited about it enought to buy another bottle in the future. Will probably use it to wear with jeans.
This one is pretty sexy for an Estee Lauder scent, normally i find them pretty bland and conservative, i usually picture republican housewives at a convention wearing Estee Lauder but this baby is different. For me I think a guy could definetly pull this fragrance off, its quite woody and it seems dark but thats all balanced out by the creaminess of its palette. Its a very well constructed fragrance. The Jasmine and Magnolia are the first thing i smell when i spray this, they offer that soft floral scent which straddles the line between being sweet but quite savoury and then you get that heavy woodiness which is quite strong but not to the point where its obnoxious and i think the honey brings in that balance of creaminess which makes this fragrance IMO perfect in every way. Give this one a try. Its worth it. Staying power is excellent too.
This is my vision of, how to say it, "edible wood".
From the beginning I'm surrounded by wood notes: smooth sandalwood and guaiac wood - or probably amber gives this soft and silky effect, then caramel and very quiet ylang-ylang. Sensuous doesn't change much, but also doesn't make me feel bored - it's so delicious and scrummy, yet with slightly spicy note. Simply sensuous.
It's no way as sensuous as it seems to want to be - it's more like the loving cuddle on the sofa that turns into the rest. It's classy, it doesn't hump, thrust or grind like Midnight Poison does, it caresses and nibbles earlobes at most.
I had to carry this bottle around with me because it wouldn't last - like another reviewer commented, they had to spray their clothes rather than their skin. I got drunk and lost it...some lucky b*tch will have found this in a taxi...
Just jealous it wouldn't last on me. I loved the combination of warmth and freshness it gave me, without being sickly or cakey.
I always got asked what I was wearing too. I'd buy this again but only after investing in some kind of mini-vial to carry some around for top ups.
When my daughter walked in the room she was followed by a trail of......oooohhh gorgeous.
I was wanting more of this woodsy but sweet and fresh aroma.
Well that is it...gotta have this one...I LOVE IT.
I will be back to let you know how this works on my skin, an older version of her wonderful young skin! haha.
Got it.
Yes it works on older skin too, wonderful. I get a little waft as I move and I enjoy it. It is soft and womanly, with lasting power that does not go 'off' as the day moves into night.
You know that feeling you get when you smell something that's so invigoratingly intoxicating.....you close your eyes and sigh, or when you see something or someone that's so gorgeous that you lick your lips in anticipation.....Well, that's exactly the way I felt after smelling "SENSUOUS." This bottle of perfume is carnally lucious. That jasmine-magnolia-honey-musk-woodsy combination is totally working for this bottle of juice. HOT MAMA! This is so sinfully yummy that it smells good enough to eat, but you can't eat it. However, if you could, I'd certainly be tempted to sink my teeth in it, if only to satisfy my hunger. Just a small dab to my wrist and this heavenly sweet aroma had me on sensory overload. WOW! I'm in love and I have to thank the nose behind "Sensuous" for bringing SEXINESS to the house of Estee Lauder. Sensuous is gorgeous, sexy, intense and delectable. I totally dig the concept behind this carnal bottle of juice. If you're a gourmand lover and in the mood for something tantalizing then douse your body with lovely Miss Sensuous. She'll satisfy all your lustful appetites.
A rich, warm, sweet scent. I guess it must be the pepper my body chemistry is pulling out of this scent, because on me it has the slightest herbal/spicyness to it. Just slightly reminicent of spellbound.
Very pretty, creamy scent. The honey and woodsy notes are dominant on my skin and smells like sweet melting honey on sandalwood. It's not necessarily Sensuous but rather Subtle. It kind of reminds me of Sean John's Unforgivable Woman. Both are creamy, soft, and non-offensive.
This is such a warm and cosy scent. To my nose, the most prominent notes are sandalwood, honey and cinnamon.
I like to wear this while I am - reading a good book, watching a good film, watching the sun rise/ the clouds go by, or visiting a museum - alone.
Lovely little scent to complement one’s solitude :-)
Completely agree with Chanelette. I also declare addicted!
The aroma has an incredibly long lasting, all day!!!! . The output is somewhat floral but accompanied by wood, especially sandalwood and mandarin, sweet without excess .... delicious.
Over time, the perfume lost some intensity and then surprise! mandarin and pepper with a touch more "brighter" but with the same background of sandalwood and honey. I have never smelled anything like this on my : O
Starts off very sexy with warm woods and Honey
Delecate petals of magnolia blooms with a seductivly
sweet scent and it's stately elegance then dries with lily with a tingere of spiciness Jasmine floats shyly giving a greenish herbalness which is suble, Then turns synthtic giving an impression of Sugar got stuck in some plastic but it's bearable and in fact
what makes it for what it is, Amber is pronuanced
in sensuous and gives off a sweetness which it can
be Cloying at times I can detect Cinnamon dry and
semi-sweet when mixed with the note of pepper conjours a delectable and sensual aroma The drydown is my favorite Sandalwood adds a inner fire to a
icy and refined flagon, Sensuous has a Luminosity
an innerglow that is comfident without aggression
Sexy but not smut it gives suble hints no tacky
bright colors or designs just simple and elegant.
The first half hour the scent was a warm and sensual soft floral that's pleasantly sweet and almost edible. After that phase ends and the florals start to fade away...the black pepper turned up mixing with the honey, and it started smelling absolutely disgusting, like saw-dust on my skin, it was so awful I had to retest it another day to confirm it was really 'sensuous' doing that. Too bad, I like the concept and the bottle, and the first 30 minutes of having it on, it smelled really good. Try before you buy.
I am completely in love with this scent - it is SENSUOUS indeed. I kind of liked it in the beginning enough to buy it and the more I wear it the more I am loving it. Very feminine, delicate, creamy, and sensual. Warm and soft and a bit spicy too which gives makes it very sexy. Lasts very long.
Today I officially admited I'm addicted to Sensuous. I only bought a small bottle, expecting that I'd get tired of it after a few weeks. I was sooo wrong! Each time I spray it on I realize THIS is the perfect woody fragrance. The sandalwood note is very prominent on me, but I don't perceive any of the smokiness mentioned below. The woodsy note is a kind of linear and clean. Then there's this mandarine note which is not zesty fresh like when you peel of the fresh fruit. It's more like a mandarine pie, where the mandarines are sweetened by honey and in the oven they get a caramel touch. The delicious pie is sprinkled with just a little pepper. The fragrance is light and smooth and very wearable, with excellent longevity.
Sensuous is a really sexy and feminine scent for the upcoming spring and summer season! it opens with a little sharp pure white florals and an exotic hint of sweet powdery magnolia but very quick woods and precious luxury amber are fading in and soften down the florals to a rich and alluring heartnote. the best is the drydown: the juicy-foody mandarine accord waves over creamy sandalwood and sweet and lovely honeytrails with just a pinch of pepper... hmmm delicious ! great sillage. staying power great as well. can hardly stop keep on sniffing...wow!
I do not wear Sensuous very often, but when I do, I always think: Why don't I wear this more often?
Briefly: Opens a little strong, and a bit peppery, which gives the whole thing a little depth. The pepper tones down and turns sort of cinnamon-spicy instead. Sensuous becomes increasingly sweet with honey and vanilla as it sits on your skin. I don't know what that 'molten woods' note is supposed to be but if you were in the woods, and there was a campfire of felled maple burning in front of a gingerbread house on a windy fall day, I guess that would be it. The drydown is very vanilla, and a bit of woods.
What I love about this is the combination of subtle sillage and staying power. It is not so strong that you will knock people over, but you will be able to smell the scent all day, (and maybe only the people who get very close to you can too.) This lasts all day long on me and I like it very much.
My father is from India and occasionally when I was young he would go and come back with a small gift for me. Often it would be a figurine of sandalwood of some sort, especially an elephant. Natural sandalwood has a beautful creamy, slightly floral, wood scent. Unfortunately I do not think that synthetic 'sandalwood' comes close to the scent of natural sandalwood, but the vanilla/wood/pinch of spice drydown here is still nice.
First i spotted it in London airport in september 2008 and really liked it. There is something magical about that spicy scent. And then i had to wait for over a year till it was available in my country. Then i sniffed it and didn´t liked it at all. The spices were too mauch then. Kater again i thought i will give it a second chance and bought it but still didn´t like it so i gave it away to my mom, which seems to fit her very well. Then everytime she sprayed it onto her i smelled it and realized that i am loving it again, so i was borrowing it from her until i bought it for myself. But once again i am not really using it at tne moment but i guess it is only because it is not a winter but late summer-autumn scent. It is also works good with high humidity, so i mostly use it when it rains. I guess you can call it a love-hate relationship.
(this was a review for EDP)
It started off well with a cozy blast of honey, however as it started to settle, it got sweeter and sweeter and sweeter, until it was something akin to caramels covered in honey that were dosed in black pepper. Completely, utterly vile. I can only conclude that Sensuous doesn't work with my chemistry or my nose.
Bought this for my mum, but now I keep borrowing it. Not as floral as other Estee Lauder perfumes.
Amber, honey, sandalwood, and a little citrus. NICE.
Easy to wear, and I believe would suit a wide range of ages. Can't see it wearing well in the summer but a good choice to take you from day to night in the colder months.
A great fragrance, unlike any other. Can be quite strong, seems to last a long time on me. Lots of compliments. Not my favourite for everyday wear, but a winner nonetheless.
I've had my mini of this for ages now, and I still can't put my finger on it. Is it too dry? Not warm enough? Or is it just simply bland and watery?
There is some nice stuff going on notewise, from the look of it on paper, but in reality it just fails to make any kind of statement, or tell any kind of story for that matter.
Longevity is next to nothing. It might have made a fairly acceptable skin scent, since there's no discernible sillage to suggest otherwise. But no, the drydown is too screechy and bare for even that.
And it still could've been wearable if not for the apparently non-existent quality of materials that went into this frag, the gloomy little synthetic musc and the shrill florals.
Meh.
so confusing perfume.....
I can't decide if i love it or hate it. .
what i don't like about it is that I don't feel clean when I wear it..
what I like but also makes it weard is that it smells edible ??! confused.
what a sexy fragrance!!! truly sex appeal! when i wear this every guy around me its atracted. so thats mean that is a man catcher fragrance!!!!
I tested it today smell strong sandawood,peper look like strong lady but not for me in this smell.
Lush magnolia and lily, peppery honeyed woods - the ultimate comfort scent for me. I have also tried (and enjoyed) Cashmere Mist but, for me, the lush softness of this one, trumps the sharp artificiality of Cashmere Mist. I keep coming back to it whenever I need to feel cosy and snug. It stays close but lasts and lasts. My bedding regularly smells of this and I love it.
Love this sweet so soft and warm dry down with honey and little spice .Any way it's my latest so I'm wearing it all day and night like crazy lol..
Ahhh, I do so have a soft spot for EL Sensuous. But not for the famed 'molten woods' which is entirely lost on me.
I can smell thick, sticky delicious honey but I can also smell the hot, sticky feel of onion residue on the skin. Skin below the ankle to be more precise as it also has the gloriously rich fruity aroma of summertime feet!
Yes, yes, I too thought I was having a olfactory hallucination but in the interests of assuring myself it wasn't a brain tumour I consulted the Oracle who told me that a combination of lactones (of which Sensuous is very rich therein) and sweat can cause an 'oniony' output.
The truly shameful part of this whole story is that I still wear Sensuous around the house when the impish mood strikes. I find it strangely enjoyable, like giggling at your own flatulance.
Indeed, Sensuous never fails to bring a smile to my face.
Very nice! I get the molten woodnote,but just faintly ,but what i get is a lovely sirupy melt sugartone that i usually do not like since it usually gets too sweet. But here it doesnt ! Its sweet yes ,but together with the flowers, it dries down to toffeecaramel on my skin,like a discrete second skin , not loud just cosy - yes i like it !
I have a miniature bottle of this it smells really nice
To me Sensuous is just beautiful. It is the very best of Estee Lauder. I can`t get enough of this fragrance. Warm, sweet, comforting, feminine, easy to wear and very elegant.
Every time I smell Sensous on my wrist or on my hair I get the feeling of walking on a sunny field where all I can see is flowers and bees and sunshine all over!
A truly remarkable scent.
9/10
after first sniff it's soo undiluted that i thought i will not like it but the drydown is excellent, pleasant, comfortable and well-balanced. what i like the most is that i have never smelt a perfume similar with Sensuous before :)))
Lovely, sweet, warm, fuzzy scent...it is not strong, but sillage is just great. I don't find it to be a woodsy oriental at all!! I find it to be more of a gourmand, but a romantic, classy one...The scent is a creamy-velvety honey-ambery-floral, emphasis on the honey, because indeed it is very sweet, not drenched in sugar sweet, but just the right amount of honey without it getting into 'cloying' territory. I didn't really find it 'sensuous', for me personally, it would need to be abit more bittery-balmy woodsy in the base to actually smell sensuous. But this one is really, really gorgeously sweet in a luminous way...I like it!! I think it's quite a versatile scent too...especially perfect for chilly fall mornings....
EDIT: tried this again, it was beautiful until it got to the dry-down, which smelled weird and dusty on me, and unfortunately did not work with my skin chemistry, most probably due to the black pepper note :( Try before you buy.
This is my answer to bringing in the fall beauty! A fragrance unique, classy, warm, and sensual....the name is perfectly suited! The first time i tried it was spring and I didnt care for it. I especially do not like it when its hot out, its not refreshing. But when the temperature drops a bit, and you need warm and cozy...this is the one. It smells best when you are wearing layers for some reason. Warm fires, cozy blankets, and crunching snow....you will find sensuous the perfect companion!
I like this one a lot. Here in Canada, after having the crappiest summer I can recall, ever, we're now heading quite fast into a cool fall. And I think Sensuous will be one of those fall/winter "sit by the roaring fireplace and watch it snow outside" (thus delaying the inevitable going outside to shovel the sidewalk) fragrances. I believe it is thanks to the lily+sandalwood+pepper+honey combo, especially the fairly strong peppery smell, like a part of mulled wine smell, very cozy and comforting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
update: It has been a couple of months of me "testing" this fragrance and I must say I am in love with it! It also happens to be the first "winter" fragrance that did not make me sick or headachy, at all. I am surprised by that because the scent is not a shy one, it is peppery (in a sexy way) and feminine but in a really good way, well, at least on me. Not too many heavier scents deliver that for me but this one does, every time. I will be getting a full size of this one right away.
I truly love this and believe it is elegant! Makes me wish I were sitting in front a fireplace with snow falling outside (but since I live in Florida....tis only a dream!). When I first saw the description "molten woods" I thought: what a crock....what in the world do they mean by that....and then I sprayed it on and I swear you can actually SMELL molten woods!!! WOW! I am not a big fan of Estee Lauder fragrances....but this one is beautiful!
I guess it is the first oriental fragrance that I like - and having mum with a collection of orientals I really know what I'm talking about. It's soft and sensual, sweet, but of the right kind of sweetness. Very long lasting, warming scent for autumn and winter.
Oh my god! This smells so so nice! I did't tried it myself but my friend did. I could't get enough of that wonderfull smell on her wrist.
On her skin became Censuous a fantastic masterpiece!
Now I have to try it and see if even my skin likes it as much.
I have this in the crook of one elbow. It was sweet from the initial spray. It does have a rather soapy, sweet scent in the dry down. I also detect a hint of something a little musky. Perhaps the amber? It's not an unpleasant scent, but it is a little sweeter than I'm used to. Having only sprayed it on one arm though, the lasting strength is pretty good. I sprayed it about 2 hours ago in the store and can still smell it. My husband and step daughter liked it better than the Euphoria I have on the other arm. LOL. I definitely don't smell any Jasmine or Lilly. Perhaps a tease of Magnolia. It hasn't made me rush headlong for the bathroom to scrub my arm. I smell it a lot better than I do the Euphoria. I'm gonna ride it out and see if I grow to like it. It's different from anything I've bought before. But, different is sometimes good right?
To be honest there are not many E.L. fragrances that I like but this is simply wonderful. I can smell it on my wrist at this moment. Sweet, woody and very warm, and how interesting with pepper in the base!!
I have a big smile on my face.
The campagne does not fit the perfume, at all. The models are wearing white clean shirts, which evokes a 'pure' idea; which isn't right for it at all. The bottle says somewhat more: it is a warm fragrance... and rather confusing, since it has something of everything. It has something candy-ish, and sometimes something tobacco-ish. It is feminine though a bit masculine at the same time. Deep deep down somewhat powdery and soapy too (there where the amber/vanilla stuff kicks in), like agent provocateur strip. I think one could interpretate it as modern, but also as kind of classy (in the drydown). One thing is certain: sensuous plays with a lot of senses, and is not made for nice sweet little girls!
So heavy to begin with it almost struck me out! It got better when it dried down, but not my cup of tea. Too mature and spicy. Similar nauseating smell as DKNY Delicious Candy Apples Juicy Berry. The staying power was excellent (I tried to wash it off without luck. Scary stuff).
Yummy warm and sweet to me.I sampled at Macy's back in February and never forgot this lovely scent.I see it at Marshalls for like $49.99 3.4 oz I do want to buy it. I love warm fragrances they are so grown ladyish to me.
I had smelt this for the first time only sometime last week, and immediately after I sniffed it, I realized it smells remarkably similar to Dolce Vita, just not as rich or full. And after reading the list of notes that each possess, I'm not at all surprised, for they share many of them... And are both oriental woody scents as well. This fragrance is quite strong, yet so soft. Woody, yet sweet. Could take me from daytime to nightime without any hesitation at all. I'm very happy with my purchase. :)
What a dissappointment. I was absolutely flabbergasted with the beautiful add-campaign and so dissappointed with the fragrance itself.
A most repulsive smell ever, makes me want to vomit. Chemistry I guess.
I just tested this today, and absolutely love it! I sprayed it before going to a movie and doing some pilates with my sister, and it was still present and beautiful hours after I put it on. My only major worry was that my boyfriend wouldn't like it, because he usually shies away from strong scents and I thought this would be too dark for him. However, when he smelled it me he absolutely adored it (he wouldn't let go of my hand for the longest time!) and even thought it smelled light. After seeing how well it holds up, I'm definitely hoping to get this for my upcoming birthday, but if not I'll simply have to buy it myself.
This perfume smells like an extension of my own smell, and definitely qualifies as a "skin scent". It feels natural and sexy without being too musky or dirty.
I received this as a gift from my husband for Valentines day. It could definitely be described as a "skin scent". It just happens to blend with my chemistry remarkably well. I first tried it on last summer, and I thought it smelled very raw. Almost like you had been lying on the beach, perspiring a bit, but you didn't really stink because you have on suntan oil and deodorant. I would guess this to be a very sexy scent from some of the comments I have received. I think it would be great to wear during the summer at night.
I am sorry to say this made me want to hurl as much as Simply Clinique, which gives me the same kind of ill feeling. I would like to look further at the composition of both and see what may be linked, apart from the fact Clinique and Estee Lauder are closely linked as co-companies anyway. Funnily I thought I always had a strong stomach. No can do.
Ok I need to update. Yes it still reminds me of Samsara, but not cheap at all. I got a good whiff at Macys and I find this to like its name sensuous. I does last too. I just didnt notice before because the scent is so soft. I smells like what Samsara Shine should smell like. A lighter version of Samsara. I actually was tempted to buy this for the summer because I think it would be a nice summer scent. but I need time to reflect on whether I would grow to love this. Its soft, woody, musky with a pinch of sweetness.Scratch my last review.
Smells like a cheap knockoff of Samsara. But it is more woody in its dry down. Doesnt last very long.
First spray is real insence,, for me, a greek orthodox does not seem so unreal.. dont know about the others, but then , the musky caramel underneath, is such a treat!!! I think i know where in the year this perfume belongs,, to colder nights in springtime, smells like natureXXXX
This is one that I liked on first spray and actually considered (impulse) buying. I thought 'yep, good quality, quite sexy, surely my kind of thing?' - No. I think the honey is always a stickler for me - I hate other frags with honey notes too. It just sticks in the back of my throat and makes me feel sick. Too cloying and not woody enough, but I can appreciate it just the same for being a bit different.
At the beginning Sensuous too safe, too comfortable seemed to me. And now I adore totally and I am not imagining not to have it. It is so extremely cinnamon, delicate, harmonious, nothing in it is sticking out, very warm, full of light. The most in it notes of the cinnamon and beautiful lilies are bewitching me. Very women's, elegant, discreet and original. Simply beautiful. I will buy second flacon`, because first almost I already consumed.
Sensuous is like e moderate niche fragrance, but price is not niche. Price is reasonable.
The first time I smelled Sensuous on a scent strip, I fell in love. It's so rich and ambery; its honey note is spot-on and adds delicious depth. The scent strip pulsed for two weeks, so thinking about how deliciously tenacious it was, I purchased in soon after.
It works so much better on paper and clothing than it does on me, unfortunately. It morphs into a baby wipes scent on my skin, which is lamentable. When I use it, I have to spray my clothes rather than me.
I can smell Sensuous from yards and yards away, and will always track down who is wearing it to compliment her on her wonderful taste.
This one's a real gem.
I bought this last year on the plane going to Greece. I found it soft and very spicy on my skin. The only problem was it was not very long lasting, after half a hour it was gone. Gave it to my Daughter who thought it was an unusual perfume and liked it, but did not last very long on the skin.
Those who appreciate honey-floral perfumes along the lines of Guerlain L'INSTANT should be pleased also with Estee Lauder SENSUOUS, which opens to my nose as an oriental floral showcasing magnolia before moving swiftly to a luscious honey-sandalwood-amber drydown.
The sweetness of the honey-amber amalgam seeps deeply into the wood but without reaching the point of being cloying. This is a wristsniffer for sure, with excellent staying power and medium sillage in the edp.
Nothing revolutionary or earthshattering here, but sometimes yumminess is enough! SENSUOUS is a fine oriental-floral-woody fragrance which will work especially well during wintertime, serving as it does to warm the wearer up.
A better name might be SUMPTUOUS, but SENSUOUS definitely seems FB-worthy to me!
Aftering wanting to try Sensuous for a long time now, I have to say I am thoroughly disappointed. I think the name for Sensuous is a somewhat misleading name, because while it's definitely a woodsy perfume (and I consider a lot of them to be very sensuous), it did not seem in any way sensual or even provocative IMO.
A few seconds after the first spritz and I wasn't very impressed. The magnolia and the jasmine - notes I'm actually very fond of - I barely detected. Instead, I got this waft of what the others have reviewed very aptly as being like a caramel or syrup. I guess that'll be the honey, then. I'm not sure it agreed very well with my body chemistry because about 10 minutes later it started smelling like powdered sugar. There were sharper moments in the perfume, what I can only take to be the pepper base notes. If they were trying to sex this perfume up, they failed. It didn't blend well with the honey notes, and it ended up seeming like Sensuous couldn't make up it's mind whether it wanted to be mellow and sensual, or sexy and forthright. About 2-3 hours in, it started to smell like talc on me. That's when I started trying to scrub it off, but sadly, while Sensuous doesn't make the best of itself on my skin, it was impressively stubborn, lasting over 7 hours.
Some of the reviewers here say they could smell sandalwood, and I think I could smell a variant of some kind of incense in Sensuous, but it seemed very synthetic to me, and when it dried down properly, ended up smelling like talcum powder. I later had a chance to smell vestiges of Sensuous on my jacket sleeve, and I found that it was actually quite pleasant to smell when it wasn't on my skin. I think I could just about appreciate the warm, woody notes which was probably what the makers had intended rather than the talcy smell. Obviously then, Sensuous has potential, but on the wrong skin, it's not flattering.
Still, I couldn't help but feel like this perfume was for an older woman. Definitely not "old lady" perfume, but it certainly had a maturity about it. I can't see anybody younger than her late thirties or earlier forties wearing this on a regular night out.
I initially loved the scent...a creamy honey or caramel, pepper, mixed with soft wood tones, magnolia, which dries down to a buttery-toned vanilla/amber. I found it very feminine, complex and a bit sexy, yet I don't know if I'd use the word, "Sensuous". Although it is a lovely frgrance, something in it lacks that, "wow factor" that truly "sexy" or "sensuous" perfumes present. Also disappointing was the fact it lasted less than TWO hours!! Estee Lauder fragrances are generally very "full", opulent, and long-wearing. They bring to my mind very bold, if not regal, self-directed women. This fragrance is more like a little sister to all of those bolder fragrances ... "girlier"...definitely not as matured or serious as the more developed, "grown-up" sister fragrances.
when i saw the notes i think it is adorable,but i tested it yesterday,smelled like plastic bag on me.
It was a gift from my customer.
Reading number satisfied reviews here I was suprised: As I first sprayed it was nice citrus soft sense but then ...after 30 minutes I smelled sense I hate... I don't know which ingrident this is but sorry, i hate it..I'll give it away.
While I don't like many EL fragrances any more, this one is wonderful. I love the way the wood smells so warm and sweet on my skin, but not too sweet. I sampled it three times before I bought it because I didn't care for the initial blast, but it softens up very quickly. For me, it wears very close to my skin, which really surprised me because EL has never been known for being subtle.
Very nice! I get the molten woodnote,but just faintly ,but what i get is a lovely sirupy melt sugartone that i usually do not like since it usually gets too sweet. But here it doesnt ! Its sweet yes ,but together with the flowers, it dries down to toffeecaramel on my skin,like a discrete second skin , not loud just cosy - yes i like it !
First moment i sprayed it on, nothing to write home about, but developed into a lovely cozy, creamy wonderfull smell on my skin, that lasted about six hours,, not a screaming perfume, but surely a comforting, nice, and sexy in a way scent,,, definetely will buy it, i think its for summer nights mostly..
This one smells like old lady when first sprayed, like most of Estee Lauder perfumes, but later is becomes very interesting. There is a hint of something spicy-sweet and a very pleasant drydown.
kinda spicy for my tastes but its good for whoever likes it..not a bad perfume..but not my type either
smells like toffee and incense on me. not a good combination at all. the good thing is that the smell doesn't last too long so you are free from its "spell" soon.
I don't like EL fragrances and I am still on the fence with this one... At times I like it, mostly I am not sure. I looked at the notes again and I am not too keen on honey. The amber in the drydown is quite nice though. Most fragrances don't last on me but this one, I sprayed once on my hand last night and I can still smell it this afternoon. But all EL fragrances have huge lasting power if nothing else.
EL perfumes are these that I avoid the most.Never liked them.But I can not misjudge this one...Interesting in a warm and spicy way..proves right its name.
It is the only Estee Lauder perfum that I like. It is longlasting, soft and I love the woody/amber/honey drydown.
When I first smelled this, I got a burst of spicy notes. It was very strong and smelled almost like caramel. It was way too strong for my nose. After a while, my nose was trained too like it and it smelled pretty good. A love or hate fragrance that you have to learn to like. I would not wear this perfume but I would very much like to smell it on someone else.
It starts spicy with something like caramel. This impression doesn't last long. Then comes an air of tropical flowers and fruits. Weird perfume, like torn in two aspects totally different to each other. As if you're wearing two perfumes at the same time and they 're not blending well. Not among the best of Estee Lauder. It doesn't last on skin too. 16.53
Honey,something like burnt sugar,an agreeable amber,a familiar sensation.
On second thoughts...This is the twin sister of "Belle de Minuit"by Nina Ricci.
I like this fragrance. It's musky, woody and is lovely to wear. I agree with those that have said it isn't original as it does smell of a mix of other fragrances I have had in past.
For me it's a good day fragrance.
This is pleasant enough, but I think Estee Lauder fragrances are not my style-I love Aliage, but even that's not my style.
I love the straightforward woodiness of it-but it is strong in a bad way for me. I smell honey, beeswax, amber, even a bit of jasmine and magnolia.....But something about the overall scent that smells unnatural, sprinkled with soap and doesn't make up for it with warmth and self-assertion.
Thanks to a fellow fragrantica member I am able to test this fragrance. It is very grown up and sophisticated. It smells like honeyed flowers with a bit of soapiness to it mixed with sandalwood. A good fragrance for the office or for a evening out. I picture a woman in a button shirt with a pencil skirt and black stilettos wearing this. It is stronger than I expected and i feel like something is missing from it. But i can't quite figure it out.
I got a sample of this a couple days ago. If not for the great rep at the counter insisting, I would have said a definite no to this. I really didn't like this when I sprayed it at the counter, but it was late in the day, so perhaps my sense of smell was off. But I tried again the next day, and found that I really, really like it. Yes, it does start off with a sharp note, something akin to Infusion D'Iris, but it then softens into the most lovely, buttery vanilla, cozy sweater kind of scent. My hubby has said a number of times that I smell good, so I know it is noticeable by others. I am 40, and I find this to fit perfectly what I have been looking for in a woodsy scent that does not enter a room before me, but stays with me in a lovely way.
too strong..woody..I didn't like it
I respect Estee Lauder house very much, some of my favorite perfumes come from it. I also see that many reviewers like Sensuous a lot, so I have to conclude that it doesn't work with my chemistry. I didn't get anything like warm, sweet, or feminine.
I sprayed it on my wrist and I couldn't smell any of the lovely notes listed here, except maybe some vanilla lost in sharpness. The smell was sharp on me from the very start, and it remained sharp, with some overpowering unpleasant note to it -- I think I smelled licorice, very much out of balance. The woodsy notes were there, perhaps, but they were not warm or aromatic. I am especially disappointed that my skin didn't bring any honey or amber since I've been looking for an ambery perfume. Pity. Glad for all of you for whom it worked.
Most people say to wear this in the winter, but I wore it almost exclusively this summer as the scent was perfect for sultry nights adding a warm, bare skin sex appeal feeling. It is a scent that you have to get close to notice. On me, it has the affect of my natural skin enhanced with a warm, honeyish-amber scent. Very sexy! This is a warm, sweet scent that is very subtle. The prominent notes seem to be the honey, sandalwood, amber, and jasmine. I don't get much of the woody aspects of this scent which is disappointing. It is sweet without being too sugary. I do find that it doesn't last as long as I would like. I sprayed it on this morning and it's faded considerably afer only 4 hours. I would definitely wear this again during the summer, but it is not strong enough for me during the winter. It gets buried under the layers of clothing and cold!
I was very disappointed when I smelt it. I was expecting a woody femenine scent and what I found was a sweet, creamy, medicinal vanilla.
It could have been a great scent if it had not been so sweet and if it had emphasized the woody notes. Fortunately, sillage is moderate, so it is not intrusive.
I get ginger, honey, vanilla and magnolia, and light cedarwood. All notes are well blended, giving a creamy and milky result. I would wear Sensuous as a fall/winter scent, because it is quite cozy.
I can't help thinking of some other perfume when I smell it, but I can't remember which one it is.
For me, there is nothing special about this one.
Its main characteristic is flowers and creamy background. There is also presence of honey caused sweetness, but not so prominent due to influence of pepper and orange. Like several reviewers mentioned it is a soap. That’s probably the best description of Sensuous. Yes, it is pleasant and easily wearable, but nothing more than that.
It is almost identical to D&G La Roue de Fortune, and also has some similarities to Alien. So, I suppose all the people who love the two mentioned above, will love Sensuous. I’m just going to skip this one
I can smell gingerbread and pink pepper, it's a bit floral and delicate. The dry down is very pleasing, creamy, silky and feminine. Still reminds me of soap. A luxurious bar of soap, but still soap.
I wish the opening notes lasted longer. Great combination of spices and flowers.
This has "the perfect Christmas gift" written all over it, actually.
I was quite scare to purchase this one but was pleasantly surprised. Very different from the other EL fragrances that are more floral. The Amber and Sandalwood are very distinct.....and the dry down is incredibly feminine and creamy.......nice!:-)
Definitely Sensuous....... it's quite ambery at the beginning, and then turns into a lovely, silky vanilla on my skin.
This is an adult version of L by Lolita Lempicka on my sking. I think it is very good.
Let me start by saying that I love this scent. I think it is in fact sensuous. It's not that often that you find a fragrance suggesting it's sexy and really is!
While I love Sensuous on others and I love sniffing it at the store, it is somewhat less impressive on my own skin (I hate when the nose and the skin disagree! Happens rather often). However, I think it is a very elegant and beautiful scent, which calms down quickly after spraying on, and then develops slowly - the perfect mixture. It smells a little woodsy and a little flowery, not overly sweet but very feminine, and the nice thing is that it does not smell like any one particular wood or flower, more like a mixture, which keeps it from getting boring.
To me, it smells somewhat related to CK's Secret Obsession, which somehow works better on my own skin. There's also something that reminds me of Magnifique, although Sensuous, I'd say, is less daring than Magnifique (and maybe more wearable).
On me, its lasting power was rather impressive, but I always think that that's really individual, depending on where and when you put it on, how warm it was etc.
i like this scent, cause i don't like floral ...but unfortunately, it's not long lasting
What disappointment!!!
First of all, from the very start I had an impression that this is some sort of Omnia Bvgari clone. Although Sensuous is much poorer in composition, and much less interesting.
And then the nonexisting gingerbread. I dont know why they have put it on the posters. To me Sensuous transform into something very powdery, and almost soapy. A soap bubble with a strong hint of jasmine. It is not an unpleasant fragrance, but by no means is it warm, creamy or woody, which I would expect after reading thr reviews and looking at the notes.
Woodsy vanilla! That's how it develops on my skin and really love it! Though most of Estee Lauder fragrances smell awfully on my skin, this one is very warm and sweet.
Love it! I didn't expect much due to the most boring bottle ever and the fact that I am not a fan of Estee Lauder perfumery, but the scent was a very pleasant surprise!
I like the opening lily scent, very fresh, floral and a bit zesty, but what I like most of all is how the scent develops after settling down. It gets very warm, with hints of spices and incense and white flowers.
I wouldn't wear this one in hot weather though. The spices will be adorable in winter, but overwhelming otherwise.
Wow! I really love this scent! when i first sprayed it, it was a bit fresh since it has flowers in the top, but after a few minutes there is a warm spiced-honey scent left. It reminds me of a fall/winter-evening: sitting on the couch by candlelight, drinking a hot cup of tea with family.
Its a very comfortable and subtle scent that lasts for a few hours.
I have to agree with nanji that the scent is long(er)-lasting on clothes.
This melled lovely on my skin for a good ten minutes or so and I was looking foward to the drydown but it just faded away - good start and then gone........shame
There is very strong incense that i can smell on my skin so i'm quite surprised there is no incense as a base...i find this perfume oriental floral woody ....it is intriguing and still can smell it after 6 hours...it is sensuous, it has this mysterious lingering seductive scent....will try it again and then decide on buying....
my darling suggested me to buy this one,luckily i didnt listen to him :P got this miniature and vial, used it for a few times in the end i gave it away == it doesnt last long on me, and the scent is way too matured for me :( dont really like this fragrance.
I have 3 words. Spiced Luncheon Meat.
This is what this fragrance smells like on me.
this perfume arrive at my country after a year of launching in USA. i know this from the internet. it come to my country in August if i'm not mistaken. after launch, i read the notes and all about this perfume in estee lauder website. yes, i'm excited to have a bottle of this. but when i try it, i hate it. it smells like honey, woodsy and powdery. and i dont like powdery smell. it doesnt suit me. as i prefer classy smell and more floral, so this one definitely not for me.
I tested it today. Only smell gingerbread and strong hairspray.
Much too strong for me!
Very lovely and feminine.Easy to wear and to like.Soft with a woody touch,i like it a lot!
Absolutely gorgeous fragrance, I think that Elizabeth Hurley is so perfect to represent this one. Very wearable, definitely gives the feeling.
When I smell this I dream of the perfect woman. Classy, sophisticated, elegant, cute, funny, sweet, dazzling, and any other words there are to classify a woman.
The opening invokes a womans the sweet and playful side with the soft elements of honey, lily, and jasmine. It captivates and dazzles with the serene heart of molten amber with floral and fruity undertones.
No,no, no... not for me this one.
On me it's lily (identical like in Passage d'Enfer, my favorite part) amber (like in Moschino's Glamour and Look- very putting me off) that's mixed with honey and pepper. It seems that the part I don't like s amber+honey combo. Then again it feels like I smelled something like that, but can't remember, maybe it was some cream or similar stuff. Apart from that it fells very rich and would appeal many, just not for me.
Estee Lauder fragrances don't usually like me, as they leave a stale or rancid scent.
After bad experiences with Estee Lauder Pleasures and Beyond Paradise, I swore never to step foot near the Estee Lauder counter ever again.
However I was very much suprised by the chemistry of Sensuous.
Sure its not my favourite but I am very impressed by it.
Peppery with initial freshness soon turns into a warm sweet smell of cake. Honey aroma is very expressive.Long lasting on the skin and after 10 hours still felt woody notes.This is a kind of spicy woody scent.
Sensuous is intimate, but a bit strange to me. Even has similarities with Intuition, as to touch somewhere halfway, though belonging to different groups. Also very sensual, has that softness of the Sensi Armani.
I would dare to buy any Lauder fragrance without a try, because they usually agree with my skin chemistry. But I still think that Sensuous is so different from other Estee Lauder (mostly floral) fragrances.
I like Estee fragrances, but many do not. Many like Sensuous, but I do not too much.I love woody fragrances. Sensuous is quite unusual compared to other woody scents; modern, more commercial, was created to have a wide audience, unlike other Estee fragrances. Just not my type of perfume, but I like the bottle,very simple and yet so elegant. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Sensuous, when it's cold outside Sensuous is like a soft warm blanket.Winter fragrance,Sensuous not really lifts me, makes me a little sleepy and lazy. Just need to get used to wear it.
Ok, so I'm going to be short and sweet on this one. The name says it all!!! Sensual is like enveloping yourself in a sheer liquid gold. Awesome!
Spraying out of the bottle, Sensuous immediately releases a mixture of citrusy and creamy floral notes that smell like a blend of orange, jasmine, roses with light hints of amber. A very light and breezy composition, that lingers on for about 30 minutes followed by a fresh but equally sweet, summery floral bouquet with creamy, vanillic undertones.
The sillage reminds me of Armani's Sensi, except Sensuous isn't as sweet and the early appearance of the honey doesn't make it cloyingly sweet. Sensuous is rather a powdery floral with a light sillage. A simple, modern, somehow refreshing and soft composition with a little bit of a soapy edge.
The final notes are sweet but not overly sweet and make Sensusous an ambery skin scent that stays on for another 2 - 3 hours. I was disappointed how this light eau de parfum only lasted for about 6 - 7 hours though I understand why. Sensuous is a modern oriental woody scent, sparkling and sweet then fades away quickly. There aren't any real woodsy notes in it, it's just a woody impression we're getting here.
Sensuous belongs to a very popular trend, the modern oriental woody category with Sensi, Let it Rock from Vivienne Westwood and some
celebrity fragrances (Halle, Naomi Campbell Mystery), just to name a few which are just shadows of what oriental woody fragrances should really be.
Thus Sensuous is safe, sweet and likely to appeal to different age groups, however lacking that self-confident, alluring and comfortable feminine statement that oriental woody fragrances used to be about. It is however a nice change from those fruity or citrus punches that invade the fragrance stores in the summer.
I bought a small limited edition spray of this over the week-end. I typically do not like scents like this, but I found it soft and unusual. I plan on wearing it this fall and winter and especially around the holidays. If I end up really loving it, I may have to ask my "Santa" for a giftset at christmas!
I get mostly molten honey, sandalwood, and pepper out this. Since I LOVE these notes this was a 'must buy' purchase for me. Reminds me of something long ago, almost like a fresh after-bath smell on a summer night in childhood. I love it. If you like this, Baby Phat's Seductive Goddess is very similar only stronger. I love them both however.
I thought that it be nice smell until yesterday, I smelled it and it was soo bad..
I have a sample of this fragrance, and after some testing, I must to say this one its better at nights on my skin. In fact its very pleasant... :) and soft
So... at mornigs... its another history... so impertinet. Rare but true
I could give a change for Sensous at nights and cold weather :) I still sense the base notes like top notes, and vice versa... and actually this it so likeable for me :)
I have a dear friend that adores this scent, so I urged myself to try Sensuous to see what all the fuss was about.
Well, Sensuous is certainly a pleasant and soft scent, however I can't say that it struck me as very original or outstanding.
When I first applied this fragrance, I was turned off by its strong opening which was rather headache-inducing. I waited quite impatiently for this initial blast to soften into a powdery and spicy scent, which was nice but not something I was overly keen on.
To be completely honest, the only aspect of this fragrance which I found truly 'sensuous' was the drydown in my opinion, which was woodsy with touches of vanilla, spice and warmth. I couldn't sense the sweet honey note, which I'm rather quite glad about, because I don't believe it would have embodied this scent well.
This fragrance may not appeal to my tastes, however I can see why people love it. It's cozy and soothing, something I could imagine someone wearing with a cashmere wool sweater and sipping a mug of hot chocolate while reading a dusty old book. As you can tell by my description, Sensuous is not a loud, sexy or outrageous fragrance, it's just a simple scent with a quiet yet charming presence.
I ffind this scent as mysterious and dark, but not terribly original. I've smelled this combination of magnolia and amber before, in Burberry's limited edition Brit Gold, which, on the other hand is longer lasting.
The name matches the fragrance perfectly. Soft and warmth. Blessed with pleasant characteristics that he strokes the leather, related makes us remember the beauties of our experiences with the touch. Very sensual, and feminine. His softness for the lily, a magnolia and the jasmine soft stroking may say thank you for it to his flower petals. His heart the ambergris reigns alone. The main reason, on which the fragrance leans,, the pepper, tangerine and honey form an interesting three with a carriage.From this his end the honey dominates rather because the presence of the pepper was not perceptible for me. The tangerine mash is not in a concentrate on a sign that he should take the fragrance away into the direction of the exotic fruits. All the time mild, and sensual what he keeps long is left over.
I don't like woodsy fragrances, as a general rule, and I'm not usually a fan of anything with an overpoweringly orange or citrus scent. That said, I really like this perfume. It's so unique and unusual. When I first tested it, I was unsure about whether or not I liked it. For that entire first day of testing it, I flip-flopped between really liking it and thinking it was overly woodsy and too heavy. Later that week, I went back for a sample. They didn't have any samples left (I had spritzed it directly onto my wrists earlier in the week), but the store clerk actually made me one out of some small, empty sample bottles she had lying around.
The flip-flopping continued for the next week, and each time I tried it I liked it a little more than the last time. But still, it occasionally hits me as overpowering and harsh. The harshness fades quickly, but for the few moments it lasts, it's nauseatingly strong. This is the same problem I have had with each Estee Lauder product I've tried. Too strong. But Sensuous is by far the best Estee Lauder perfume I've sampled, and it's the only one I can truly say I really like. I now own a small bottle of it, and it's warm and sensual and woodsy, but the type of fragrance I'd only want to wear on occasions, so that I didn't burn out on it.
I'm absolutely in love with sensuous!I just saw that it has won the FIFI award for media woman.I think it deserves to be the best perfume of the year!it's not like any of other fragrances by estee lauder.in fact it's not like any other fragrance at all.smelling it reminded me Hoggar by Yves Rocher for men.they don't have any note in common,but both belong to oriental woody category and have some similarities.but that's another story...
don't trust the notes.I don't get any of them.in fact all I get is a kind of warm,spicy,woodsy scent that makes me dizzy from pleasure.I thought I got something like cardamon or cinnamon.but I don't see any of them here.vanilla exist,but it doesn't let it smell too sweet.it's well balanced between being sweet and spicy.
I agree the description that it"praise the beauty and sensuality of women of all age."I think every woman at every age can wear it.it's mature,but also modern and not old-fashioned at all.
of course it's perfect for winter with it's warmness and sensuality.
I praise sensuous,the only problem I have is the shape of bottle.I think the bottle is not nice and doesn't tell anything about this unique perfume.
It's taken me a couple of weeks of wear for me to work this one out but i finally think I have enough of a grip on this to attempt a review !
The first few times I wore it I thought "This is VERY Estee Lauder. Hmmm. Vanilla, creamy vanilla. Lots of it. And sandalwood. And its purple. "
It's not until I saw the notes it contained that I recognised the mandarin pulp, and now that I do ,it annoys me slightly. It's not pronounced enough to make it unwearably fruity but it does irritate me slightly, a bit like the irritation of something stuck between your teeth! The trouble is it's not a juicy fresh mandarin, it's like something out of a can. Having said that, there is something warm and snuggly here that I do really like. I often find vanilla too sweet and girlish, but here it's very nicely balanced by the sandalwood. Curiously, I don't really get much in the way of the floral notes or the pepper, but there is possibly a bit of cassia bark in the mix. And I still say that if it had a colour, it would be purple! I expected my significant other to really like this one (he loves that vanilla-donut-pumpkin pie type stuff) but all he had to say was "Errr, it smells like some flowery perfume".
I have to say that this one goes on forever..(The fragrance, not my husband)I can still smell it on the jacket I wore last week although I applied it very sparingly and there was several layers of fabric between the perfume and the jacket!
Not sure if I would part with my hard earned cash for this one (I have to say that the ultra-airbrushed ad campaign couldn't be less appealing to me if it tried), but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it if I was given it as a gift.
I tried it several times since my review - fell in love, much to my surprise, cause at first it did not seem that special to me - and now I finally have it, all to myself! And I would like to add something to my previous brief review. I would be extremely surprised if it doe not have cinnamon, because the top and the heart are reeking of cinnamon - and also that variety of spices that always are used in making of gingerbread or pumpkin bread.It is warm, inviting - but does not become sexy until some time later, when the gingerbread notes soften down and the sandalwood appears.I don`t know how wood can be molten, but that`s the impression it gives - hot, hot, hot!Also the honey accord is very natural - not honey in the jar, but with the notes of honey wax and something animalistic, may be the scent of a bee? I don`t feel much flowers here either - both lily and jasmine fade before spices, amber and sandalwood.
Who is it for? It is a fragrance for a woman herself.Though my husband seems to like it and I got some compliments already from friends both male and female - it is not a fragrance to seduce.Not in a physical way, anyway. May be it`s created to seduce souls...
Its a pleasent fragrance, but it's being marketed like a sexy fragrance, which I dont think it is. The fragrance is very elegant though.
I'd read the description and was excited about a perfume that was woody and musky but I found this overpowering and once it dried down, it had a smell that reminded me of musk and Bounce sheets.
It's hard to be present to what you're smelling with Sensuous. It purported to be oriental-woody, but it's much more, it's oriental, floral, fruity, woody and spicy, all at the same time.
It contains lily, magnolia, honey, vanilla notes; all of these have been problematic for me in just about any other fragrance I've tried, and generally turn incredibly strong and cloying on me. But Sensuous is so beautifully balanced, that it simply works on me.
The fragrance reveals its seductiveness with the amber, a fine, voluptuous floral accord and spicy note of pink pepper.
Sensuous is creamy and warm and its warmth and depth seem to be more suited for the colder months or for night time.
wanted this perfume right away! so sensual(hence the name) and really beautiful. perfect for colder weather because it is so warm and lasting. it seems to smell like YOU when wearing it, only better. doesn't take over, but enhances your own scent.
after one day of wearing it seems a little like Fumiere Turque from Serge Lutens.
These scents could be easily compared.
Sensuous has some smoky notes, but much more light pleasant and feminine than FT.
I feel like threr is incense in Sensuous.
However FT lasts longer.
Even being a Serge Lutens fan, in this case I prefer Estee Lauder!
Like it even more today!
I'm surprised!
Didn't expect it from EL. I love it!
Its spicy, woody and peppery warmth is so... never thought that I'd say that about Estee Lauder perfumes... UNIQUE!
congratulation to its creator!
only minus I see- I wish it were more natural, cos its a little bit artificial and sinthetic... and Bottle is too simple:)
but I bought a 50ml bottle anyway:)))
This is much better after it has dried down. I wouldn't give it too many points on uniqueness or creativity, b/c It was pretty boring on my skin, and I didn't get much wood like I wanted. But this would be perfect for those who want something sheer and subtle. Very nice and creamy on my skin. I will wear this to work during the day and love it.
My,my... This was much more interesting, opulent and sumptuous than I expected! A slow whirlwind of warm colours and honey topped with amber and vanilla... I will most definitely treasure this one.
I love it. It smells very warm and it has an almost woodsy feel to it. My boyfriend thinks its kind of strong though.
I was skeptical about a "sharp" opening,but, itś true-itś opening is very sharpand unharmonious. The sharpness fades after 2 hours and then you can enjoy those opening notes of mandarin-and here it is at this point-at this moment- a very lovely combination of top notes complementing and enriching the middle notes, itś very fine-and very fleeting! This perfect combo of top and mid notes runs away- then you have the dry down.
You can spray again (yes, spray again) and then you only get the sharp top again! *sigh* The drydown is quite lovely however very typical, usual,normal, and i do believe a repeat- of current mainstream fragarances. I would wear the drydown as a perfume, itś very good. I would like to wear the perfume-with out the sharp opening. The perfume was not long lasting, and it is "light", compared to all other Estee Lauder perfumes.
I tried it today for the first time in Macy's. Spritzed a little on my wrist. At first, I was stunned by the harshness of it. The best word to describe it is acrid. I waited for it to die down a bit, and it did. I caught fleeting hints of an unidentifiable sweetness, it didn't last. As it dried down, it remained harsh, sticking in my nose in a painful burning way. I finally couldn't stand it anymore, and had to cut short my shopping expedition to go home and take a bath!
It is in the same league for me as Cashmere mist - a little harsh at first, but softening to a very feminine warm scent.I am trying to chose which to get - and it looks like Sensuous is losing. Though I love the overall spicy impression, it either has too much of something - pepper? - or lacks some important quality. I come to think it`s just not very original...
The first spray smell like a lot of orange peel ... maybe burning ... this is a hot bite for my nose... this note is quickly faded into a soft amber smell... not sufficient sensuous or attractive for me in this case.
Its almost a delightful, warmth gust at the beginning ... but a little poor at the dry down in my opinion.
Also, its rare for me, because I sense the base notes like top notes, and vice versa
According to his promotion it was elaborated to show the most lukewarm and feminine side of a woman, emphasizing his force, smoothness and trusting character, and supporting the idea with the image of 4 different dressed women only with white shirts semi opened (the models Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Murphy and Elizabeth Hurley in the ranges of age of 20, 30 and 40 years respectively, more the actress Gwyneth Paltrow who is Esteé Lauder's official image). In the same Esteé Lauder's site( they emphasize that his aromatic notes are: jazmine, irises in the variety "Ghost Lily", magnolias, amber, mandarins, wood, black pepper and honey.
The item is something mixed, with floral notes and a sweet bottom with few fruits. At least of the floral mixture stands out a spicy soft note, as cinnamon. In average notes the floral ones tend to become free, differentiating at least a flower with one I stop between fruit-bearing and dry that he remindsa small peach. In average notes one feels an a bit denser flower, of the line of the magnolia, but with residues of mandarin that compensate the freshness. General intermingled tones of wood appear more a kind that does not look like a pepper and goes away more for the rind of nut moscada, cinnamon or even a type of green note. With the time it takes more presence and charges more intensity emphasizing the floral jazmine with a dense slightly strong flower (the magnolia tends to behave hereby) and a third flower with aroma of petals that reminds a concentrated water of roses with one I leave animal. In the final notes he supports a well-known intensity with a floral general mixing, where a moderately dense flower seems to stand out more than the rest. Of fund the honey feels a sweet of flowers, not as the classic aroma of the eatable honey, and they feel wood intermingled but repaid to the flowers.
The fragrance presents an almost floral pure style, with variations originated by the same flowers that make it range in slightly green, sweet or spicy tones ... she is not completely dense but she does not present fresh spring tones either, feeling atemporal with an inclination about the autumn or not cold winters. It has a style of diary in city, though in office he feels slightly dense ... it can wear shoes but one gives the different idea, of a more independent aroma inclined to the night use taking advantage of the concentration of her flowers and a stela best estimated in a moderately formal style. In the romantic aspect the aroma feels as a general mixing without particular notes that turn out to be attractive ... it is showy, but she leaves the sensation that she lacks this ingredient extra that it hooks and attracts or supports in suspense. I believe that the range of age between 25 and 60 years.
I love this fragrance.
But both my mom and dad hate it! (And my sister loves it, she steals it all the time...) My dad thinks it smells like cat urine, and my mom gets sneezing fits - so they have said that I shouldn't wear it around them :(
What I do now, is spray some on when I go to bed. It is a nice compromise, because this is such a sexy "evening" scent.
This is not very special, I find it disappointing. It has nothing of the provocative energy of "Spellbound" or the promising exoticism of "Cinnabar", but seems to opt for a "middle-of-the-road" or "I-wanna-cater-to- every woman's-taste" kind of mediocrity.
Lauder makes use of the highly artificial polysantol in this fragrance, hence the disturbing cheap sandalwood smell. I can't detect any quality ingredients in this fragrance - but at least it is not vulgar. Nevertheless I thought Estee Lauder could do better!
At first I was unsure. I can definitely smell the honey straight off, which I liked. This perfume lays very close on the skin. After awhile though, it smelled like burnt wet wood.
I don't think it's AT ALL sexy, though that's how it is being marketed.
It's not for me AT ALL. I tried this on my wrist at Macy's - and hated it. Then went to the Nordy Fragrance Festival and got a sample. I wore it to work today - still hate it. It's making my head spin a bit and my tummy turn. I like fresher natural scents then this. It's too puffy and warm for me. It's not the heaviest fragrance out there but it's not a light scent at all. With the honey basenote I was hoping to love it - but I think it's the amber/vanilla that is turning me off.
holey moley!! This new EL fragrance has such character. Wearing this fragrance is an experience second to none! Such an interesting array of notes that keep you guessing from morning until evening. I must say ... it was an experience I enjoyed and I look forward to doing it all again tomorrow. Buy some ... if you dare!
I read so many good things about this scent that I wanted to try it. Thank goodness I sprayed it on my hand and then walked around the store a bit before I bought it! This is one of the most sickening sweet cloying fragrances I have ever smelled!!!!! Not good at all. I had to wash my hands multiple times before I could get rid of the smell:(
Delicious, warm skin scent. If you like fragrances like Gaultier2, give this a whirl. It's soft and elegant; whispers rather than shouts. Would go from the office to an evening out with ease.
soft soft soft. It smells like some perfume after hours of wearing, on verge of dissapearing. The trace though , which I was able to catch, was actualy interesting, but too transparent to analise it properly
I have got it (finally!) and it is even better than it smelled in the shop... This is a very well-made perfume with delicate and harmonizing notes that unfold throughout the space of a couple of hours (although traces of it can linger around until the next day).
At first it is warm and very spicey - pepper and lots of ginger. After that there is a strong heart - sandlewood and oriental scents (not absolutley sure what they are...) Although it doesn't say it has sandlewood, it smells like it does - or at least it does on me, because both my mum and I could smell "sandlewood" for hours! Its base is warm and creamy - can definitely detect the amber and vanilla. A sweet note is there somewhere, but it is in the background and not too overpowering.
The other thing I have to say is that it's sexy. At the same time as making you feel self-confident, it makes you feel very sexual (some perfumes do - guess this one worked on me!) But I'm not sure it would do this to everyone... Like so many things it depends on the individual. But for me it is absolutely, 100% gorgeous!!
I am using this now, it is not my type, but the notes are well blended to give a perfume that can be used by any age any weather, morning or night( according to Estee Lauder)I loved this concept. The top and middle notes remined me of Flower Pomp by Vector and Rolf.Some of people around me loved it, and some just hate it.
This smells very woodsy, smokey, and yet feminine. The lasting power is great. I think this is a great fall/winter scent. Not crazy about the bottle, it does look a little 70's, but that's ok. This will probably go on my Christmas Wish List this year. Try it!
I don't care for this fragrance as much as Pleasures. For me when I first spray it on it smells like cigarette smoke. That goes away after about an hr. I'll wear it, but I'll never buy it again.
I never was a big fan of Estee fragrances. And to be honest - never liked any of them. Until now...
When I first sprayed "Sensuous", it seemed way to sweet and heavy. but after few first munutes I couldn't stop shiffing my wrist. This great combination of wood, amber and honey just resently became my favorite. This is very warm and - yes, sensuous smell I will wear this winter.
Quite nice but I also felt it is lacking something, I mean for a feminine fragrance. It's more refreshing, to my nose it has the effect like a menthol and eases breathing, also I can smell some woody notes. It reminds me of Tresor with something.
hace decadas no hacian una fragancia de esta naturaleza........... completamente cozy
Verry intriguing fragrance according to Your description! I haven't got the chance to try it on , but I am looking forward to find it !
I love amber, and when introduced to this, I purchased it right away. Sweet, but not at all over-powering. I think I'll wear it frequently.
What a nice fragrance from EL..really lovely..this sweet woody peppery touch gives such a warm effect...
Smells exactly like Australian Sandalwood. Very funny .
LOVE this perfume. What a nice suprise from EL. Sensuous is in my top 5 right now. Silage could be better. I plan on getting the matching lotion soon. Such a sweet-woody drydown.
This fragrance is a unique creation soothe like honey, seduce while the mandarin orange refresh. In a surprising way it gives meaning to Passion and Pleasure.
Estee Lauder products were always a bit heavy to me, but remind me of the best of times at high school dances in the late 60s early 70s. I discovered this recently because of my love for amber. It is going to be one of my favorites. Long lasting. Love smelling it on my pillow. Yummy!
Sweet, woodsy warmth. It smells like Gucci Rush for Men, but softer and more feminine (no, not anything like Rush for Women). It's simple elegance. The black pepper and wood notes are very detectable on dry down, slightly spicy, but at first I smell the jasmine and lily. It works all year round, I would say. It's noticeable, yet inoffensive. I think it's a beautiful new creation for the perfume world! I find it something that can work for different women in different ways, very versatile. All at the same time, I feel like it is lacking something.
This had to grow on me, but now I really love it. When I first sprayed it, it was way too heavy. As time went on it dried down amazingly though! Very soft and not too bad in the heat. (Still more of a winter fragrance in my opinion, though) Now I can't go without it. Luckily for me, though, a friend is buying it for my birthday. I'm a lucky chick.
