Beyond Paradise (for women)

Designer: Estee Lauder Olfactive Group: Floral
Video

Beyond Paradise is a tropical fantasy in a nice colorful bottle.
"The scent transports you to a perfect world of optimism and wonder. Unfolds on your skin with a fascinating blend of tropical wetness, zesty freshness and bursting floralcy".

The composition includes a lot of exotic flowers (this is so typical for Estee Lauder, who loved flowers), rare fruits and woods. EL discovered and used exotic flowers which were unknown to perfumery through a partnership with the Eden project, the largest botanical conservatory in Europe (Scotland).

The fragrance opens with Eden mist which gives a long lasting tropical wet effect, rare flowers (orange blossom and blue hyacinth) and fruits (Jaboticaba berry). The floral heart is a burst of exotic flowers: laelia orchid, pink honeysuckle, Japanese mahonia. The base is no less exotic, consists of Natal plum blossom, golden melaleuca, zebrano wood, ambrette seed.
The perfume was created by Calice Becker 2003.

Don't get person whom bashing this perfume and liking the Pleasures Delight! This one absolutely better than than Pleasures Delight. So call 'gourmant' is overrated. This one not rancid strong chemically scent like delight smell. I use this one anytime instead of Pleasures Delight for sure!

This reminds me of my grandmother. She has a little collection of Estee Lauder fragrances and when she wore this it would soothe me. Definetely lots of nerves that were calm when Im beside her :) This scent is soothing to me.

Hm.. after I read it was like funeral, I gave it a try... and yes, I can think of funeral a little bit, but for me it lacks pine to become true funeral scent.
I thought it would be different, because it smelled from bottle like a bud of exotic notes that awaits to unfold. At first it was like something weird. It reminded me some old fashioned perfume, but I could take it, I was waiting for it to develop. I think the top phase is the one that scares away most people from it, then... after hopes so high, 30 minutes later I smelled almost the Pure White Linen on my skin only this to be a little more exotic, but not that much to be different. I think Estee Lauder perfumes I tried all smell very alike, like they have the same 'core', like their signature. But this one is not for me, it's too safe in my opinion. I can tell it smells like a bit syrupy sweet florals with fresh ripped woods (it's more like green bark). Projection and staying power is good. Bottle pretty too, I like the gradient color of it.

The bottle and the advertising deceive! Oh, they deceive! You would expect something that is "beyond paradise", or at least "gorgeous". But it is a muddy tropical floral scent, so typical of Estee Lauder's perfumes.

I think it was created with good intent and a lot of hard work, but the final result was a little dissapointing. I feel sorry for them, having discovered/used all these thousands of rare fruits and flowers from the Eden project, and all the trouble they went to trying to create "the perfect blend". Just goes to show that hard work doesn't always pay off.

I get the flowers and fruits, but they aren't balanced right. The notes are not distinct enough and the scents run into each other. It makes a rather muddy rainbow, than the perfect rainbow shown on the bottle. I'm sorry Estee Lauder!

It's off-beat and its been a favorite of mine for years now and I'm still discovering different things about it that I love. You can really smell the honey suckle after its been on your skin for a while.
05/09/09 22:18:03

It's a very ambivalent scent. I own a mini, after asking it back of my friend, because I gave it to her so many times and always wanted it back after a couple of months.
It indeed has personality and is different to the faint flowery perfumes on the market. It smells like a bunch of flowers, mud, rain, green leaves and rotten fruits. Strange but nice!
05/09/09 10:57:03

One of the most particular fragrances I've ever had and still love it. It is for ladies with Personality.
05/09/09 10:45:46
Hmmm...it reminds me of a slough, this kind of slough that you meet in summer...rotten leaves, jolly frogs and smelly water. After 10 min the smell changes in something more decent...in this moment you can exclude the smelly water but the frog jolliness nearby the rotten leaves persists. After an hour all that I smell is a wood soaking in the boiled water of summer.

I was about to write (er, type) that I felt this just smelled like wild flowers and nothing more. But I took another whif of my wrist, and lo and behold, gardenia! I think im enjoying this much more than the other reviewers seem to. It's true that the lemon is not detectable, but I'm not a huge citrus fan so that makes me happy. It's pretty, and admittedly not original, but it's a nice fragrance none the less.
05/02/09 13:10:28
call me a web-victim, I read Luca Turin's comments, disagreed, tested it for 1000 times, and didn't like it, and today I bought it:)
weeeel, its not THAT bad after all, but actually I'm planning to stash it away, and wait, when it would become extinct rarity:)))
I don't get anything rotten there, some flowers, nothing more
04/29/09 02:56:53
I must admit I am not amazed by Estee Lauders fragrances & this is one of the worst perfumes I have ever wore or smelled.

Where is the lemon? Where is the gardenia, the jasmine? Those are beautiful fragrance scent notes to be used, and all I could smell on me was plastic or even burning rubber…

At first, it tricked me well, but when I saw the reactions of my friends, it finally make me realize that this fragrance was definitively not for me!

Is this supposed to remind us of paradise? Because for me, it certainly reminds me of how to get to… The road of smelling hell! (LOL)
04/11/09 14:09:33

I love Estee Lauder products but the prices are way too expensive, so best to wait during gift time :-) Beyond is another very much floral scent, quite fruity on the first spray, but is more floral aqua after a couple hours, thus best wear during winter months. This would suite more mature ladies, a perfect gift for mother day!
04/08/09 23:49:13

I'm not sure if I like it or not. I usually love strong fragrances..but this is just not my cup of tea.
04/04/09 07:04:27

Well if you are able to get past that strong pungent smell..you might like it..it is actually sitting in my garage...way too strong for me..headaches guaranteed with that one..doesnt smell tropical, just like a strong aromatic fragrance..offensive to me! there is a strong note in it that is distasteful to the max! I suspect the orchid. Not the best from lauder..I put it on my list of "horrible scents" with Azuree.
I tried it and I have to say that the dry down isnt bad..but it is still a very strong scent, a mix of ocean scents and tropical flowers, it reminds me of a famous sunscreen we had in france in the seventies....not for me!
04/03/09 17:31:57
I bought a mini, as I'm not able to get to an Estee Lauder counter to test. Boy, was that a mistake.

After reading over the comments here, it seems to me like this one is either a love-it-or-hate-it scent. I'm in the Hate It camp. It's too syrupy for me. Luca Turin (Perfumes: The Guide) can go on all he likes about abstract florals and how difficult they are to achieve, but this smells like mashed flowers, fruit pulp, and sugar on me. Bleah.
03/31/09 06:11:46
I am so amazed at some comments here. I just adore this perfume, probably because it reminds me of Lumière, does anyone remember Lumiere? It was a gidt from my 1st love and uhhmmm, it is special. When i 1st smelled at the perfume shop "beyond paradise" I was speechless, it is exactly like Lumiere. It took me back to young days when I was in love and nearly had to be waken up by the girl at the perfume counter, lol

Very heavy powdery scent ,like a dark cloud over my head and starts to rain, this is the reaction i have for this perfume, sickening.
03/14/09 06:36:18
I tried this in the store, and instantly fell in love. It is an intoxicating, exotic floral, with just a hint of citrus sunniness. The lovely rainbow bottle compliments this scent beautifully.
02/27/09 20:19:28

I bought in 2004 the first bottle this parfume. It was perfekt, exotic and long lasting. I liked it! Suddenly it gone off!:(

...my worst nightmare besides Angel...
02/27/09 02:00:42
I don't know what was going through my head when I decided that I actually liked this fragrance. Trying it on my wrist today made me change my mind completely. Sickeningly sweet, synthetic and reminiscent of toilet spray was how I percieved Beyond Paradise. I just couldn't get this perfume off my wrist fast enough. Definitely long-lasting, it took 3 different types of soaps to get this one off.
02/14/09 00:48:24

i actually think it is a nice perfume. the scent is quite nice. but thats about it. nothing impressive. but i didnt find it nasty tho.
01/27/09 08:40:06
Okay, I have to admit, I thought Beyond Paradise was very generic at first, and "all been done before". Okay floral...nothing out of the ordinary...seemed a bit bold of EL to call it such a name! But now that I've tried it a second, third and fourth time, I've changed my mind. It kind of reminds me of Monyette Paris, but then not (I plan to own both, so I hope they aren't too close!), but it's not like other fragrances I've smelt before, I think I thought it was generic at first because it's like something I smelt in the 80's. By that I don't mean it's an 80's type fragrance, more that it smells like something I smelt at that time... sexy, tropical, suntan oil type of scent, but in a sophisticated way. I can definitely smell jasmine and honeysuckle and many other exotic flowers which I really could not name, even if I tried! It is a tad strong, and I can see why some might turn away from it, but it's worth a few tries imo! It softens beautifully on me, though it seems quite linear on my skin. I don't mind that though.

I'm not sure if it will become one of my absolute faves, but adding to me liking it is the fact that my man walked in the door the day I was testing it and said straight away, "What's that?!" in a good way. I proffered my arm to him and he said, "That's it! MMmmmm, I like that." That always gets a star in my book!

pretty bottle, bad smell.
12/28/08 01:06:24
Mediocre. Its not actually has bad as they all say. It could work for some people. Flowery even though it reminds me of the sea. If your not into floral so much give Beyond Paradise Blue a try. In all honesty I dont like either all that much; I find them uninviting and almost desperate. They dont jump out at me as 'sexy' or 'romantic' at all. Still might as well give it a try; you never know could be the perfect one for you!
12/20/08 15:45:58

Wow. "To each his own" is all I can say. Beyond Paradise became my new favorite perfume when it came out and it still is. We know it is synthetic ingredients that make up all but the most expensive perfumes today (check out Yu). Still, I think it comes close to smelling like the real thing.
12/11/08 19:23:12

This seems to me to be something you want to like; I mean look at the bottle, look at the colours, all that gorgeousness in the description. The Eden project etc etc etc.................but it is in my opinion a really horrid smell.
12/02/08 16:27:56

I wore this on a cruise to Jamaica and it was the perfect perfume for thje occasion, It gives me a tropical feeling and I will forever associae the scent with having a warm nightime breeze blowing through my hair.
11/29/08 16:51:29
This is the second Estee Lauder perfume that doesn't impress me. To me it smells more like an aquatic than a floral. I can't really put my finger on what exactly ruins it for me.
11/26/08 15:02:04
I have a miniature bottle of Beyond Paradise - but like the most people here - I don't like it! It's heavy and has too much flowers in it for my taste.
11/26/08 06:00:49
All I can explain for this perfume is..."Lily" I hate it. It smells very strong and smell like I'm crushing a fresh lily and smearing on all over my body! No another scent! Just only Lilie!!!
11/24/08 14:32:24
I don't like it, either. I tested it some years ago, but the scent stayed in my memory as disappointing (although the bottle was fascinating to me). Maybe, I would like it better now because my taste changed...
11/15/08 15:10:47

I find it very similar to Burberry's Tender Touch (pink bottle).. Notes of perfume looks very good, but actually I find it simple and boring. Plastic smell, too much honeysuckle? maybe..
11/03/08 06:02:01
I think what makes Estee Lauder's scents so "interesting" to some-thnking of Beautiful and BPP in particular-is their tendency to merge. That is, a group of individual scents come together to create something new and heretofore unknown. The problem with this is that the new "product" is often alien and unapproachable. While Luca Turin interprets this as the genius of Calice Becker, I have to disagree as to the success of the results. Remember, a beautiful rainbow of colors, without their distinctions, is a muddled brown.
11/01/08 22:18:08
Tried my best to love it. who wouldn't with the brand name so big like Estee Lauder, especially when it has that Eden projects. so nice.
However, to me, it smells like a bunch of flower led by jasmine. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.
Unfortunately, all my colleagues gave me compliments every time I wear it. The men said it was sexy, the women heavenly.
10/31/08 05:40:24

I absolutely love this and have received compliments for the way it smells on me.

I liked it right away so I am so surprised to hear it smells unpleasant to some people.
10/29/08 14:33:32

my grandma uses this, but i wouldnt say its a typical grandma scent, and i like this too, creamy and lasting but not overpowering
10/23/08 14:04:16
I agree with anne, It's a true floral perfume but it's definitely not the best. It takes alot for me not to like a fragrance, I pretty much like all kinds but go more towards the sweet, oriental and fruity ones. I can agree with Pacogirl, sometimes it does smell like a funeral. It smells like old flowers that have been left in the water for a while and start smelling rotten. I really wanted to like this one as I like most of Estee Lauder's fragrances but this one is a thumbs down. I'm not sure what to do with my 1oz bottle that I received as a gift. Maybe i'll give it away or try to sell it on ebay, or just maybe I'll save some one the gagging effect that will happen once you smell this.

I really didn't think I would ever say this about a perfume but I hate this one so much that I had to wash my wrist and still after that I could smell the disgusting dead flower smell! And for all of you that wear this and get asked "what you're wearing?" don't immediately think "oh, they must love it" No, I think it's because they want to know what it is so they'll put it on their DO NOT GET THIS EVER FOR YOUR COLLECTION LIST.
10/23/08 09:22:53
It has rotten fading flowers smell...
Can't stand it - smells like funeral.
10/21/08 17:28:26

This is one of my favorite perfumes, I love that it is fresh and sexy, I always receive compliments when I am wearing this. It is an uplifting scent, I use it for a pick-me-up on rainy days. ^.^ I must mention that the EDP is different from the EDT, which is strange..
10/20/08 08:28:22
A lot of flowers sensation, very strong some times, very light others... Hyacinth is so notable for me, and hibiscus whit lemon... Im think the taste and lasting of this scent depends -too much- of the particular chemical combination with the skins... i bought a bottle of EDP and body lotion for my Mother, because she likes very much the flowery perfumes... and she really love it¡¡¡
Body lotion is really lasting and smell very intense...
But to me, this perfume could be stifling, harsh, unpleasant... disgusting... Im dislike that¡ so much
However, it's could be nice for fresh and breeze days... to anybody else
10/17/08 20:40:32
I enjoyed this perfume very much when I had it because it is a true floral, bordering on an extreme floral !
I enjoy exotics & spicy perfumes ,
and florals too. It has a complicated layer of florals, but, combines into one BIG smell . It is a very 'pure flower'" scent, too. It is very strong, and it has good lasting power. I see that it has Jaboticaba wich is from Brazil, where I live. :) It is very strong, lasts a long time, and in this way is typical of EL perfumes.

Very unique and interesting fragrance!
09/17/08 04:41:16
Another fragrance that causes me headache...It is not too sweet nor too spicy but it has one note that just doesn't work for me.Maybe hyacinth?...
09/15/08 03:37:21
I don't really like Estee Lauder perfumes, there's always something wrong with them. This one simply smelled very rotten on me. On the bright side, it lasted exactly 10 minutes and then it faded.

Exotic and moist tropical fruits layered on notes of pure fantasy. Totally captivating; gorgeous!

Every time i wear this I get asked what I am wearing. Its very exotic and different and I love it. Its not a floral on me but its something deep dark and sexy. Its a keeper for me.

It would just be nice if you would learn to spell exotic.
07/17/08 04:11:29
When I first smelled it from a colleague in the office I seriously looked around for a flower arrangement with lilies !! I could hardly believe that it could be a perfume. Ok, so flowery and not my style at all. But I should admit it, for this range it's highly successfull. I bought a small one for my mom and it smells wonderful on her. Just like a rare flower garden, so lively, so real.
06/19/08 08:34:09
I gave away my bottle of Beyond Paradise today. The person I gave it to said she used to wear this all the time. On her, it smells very baby powdery. Not floral at all! On another coworker, it smells all honeysuckle! On me, it smells like gasoline. Go figure.
03/20/08 18:22:08

My mom keeps buying me perfumes, and I wish she'd stop. This is yet another one that she bought for me, and it is totally not my style. It's so fruity, and I'm not a fruity-flowery gal. If you love florals, this one is ALL floral. There's no darkness in it at all. It needs a BASE-note. And it doesn't own one. It's a perfume of all topnotes, like a gaggle of women congregating in the ladies room, chattering away, each wanting to be heard over the din.
03/02/08 22:42:06
When I sprayed this, I was horribly confused. All I could think when I smelled this was "I don't get it...". Didn't make any sense to me. The bottle was so pretty and flirty, what happened to the scent? The representation was totally off of the actual product. It smelled like an ashtray mixed in with fruit, similar to the breath of a smoker who just chewed fruity gum. It may be the hyacinth, which I tend to absolutely hate (most of the perfumes I can't stand have hyacinth.) And I have never been an Estee Lauder fan. I don't know what it is, but this one totally turned me off.

Due to so many people into Estee Lauder perfumes, I kept trying them because I really wanted to like them too, but that wasn't possible. And this one totally ended my hope of liking Estee perfumes.
01/21/08 16:12:35

I like this one and I wear it on special ocasines,it is so romantic and it stays vrealy long on skin...
01/17/08 03:34:09
Let me start by saying, I love Estee Lauder products. I really wanted to like Beyond Paradise. I have tried it a couple times, but I just cannot make myself like it. My husband told me he thought it smelled like a hotel swimming pool. It has such a strong honeysuckle note & another note (I just can't place it) that just sticks in my nostrils for hours. YUCK!

I imagine on some people it would smell great. Overall, just make sure you sample a day before buying it. I really think this will turn off most loyal Estee Lauder clientle. Especially if you are a fan of Estee's original more European sophisicated scents
