For me it has much less cinnamon than Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant or Tigre, Givenchy Organza Indecence, Hermes Ambre Narguile. My nose identifies no cinnamon which would make this fragrance a cinnamony fragrance. Unfortunately .......

After beginning my review, I realized that Vickalena's review mirrors my thoughts on this scent almost exactly. So I apologize for any similarities.
I should say that I like Cinnabar very much. However, I can't help but compare it to Opium because they are very similar. And while Cinnabar is a beautiful, spicy scent, it is not as deep as Opium-there are simply not the 'layers' present in Cinnibar that are to be found in the YSL perfume. I wore Cinnibar all day today after not wearing it for some time, and I enjoyed it very much. But by the end of the day, there was this odd, almost stale note to it that was slightly unappealing(this must be the dusty, dry note mentioned in Vickalena's review). Compared to the drydown of Opium, there simply is no comparison.
In a sense, Cinnibar is the member of the perfume family that can never quite live up to the reputation and beauty of her more exotic, sexy cousin. I, too, feel that I would enjoy Cinnibar much, much more if I had never tried Opium.

I must comment on this fragrance again.
I recently spritzed some on while at a dept. store, and it's an immortal fragrance which needs time and a willingness to interpret it. There is no way to understand it when sniffing on a piece of paper.
Test Cinnabar on skin... use patience and a very light hand. The tiniest amount is enough. (I wish they still made the roll on of this, because it is the perfect way to apply it. And an application will last you at least 10 hours, perhaps stay with you after a shower.) You have to be a lover of spices - cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg - and as these mix with the rose, carnation and jasmine it's a transformation to a Far Eastern world. Warmth invites itself to your inner core when the balsam, amber and incense open up the base notes... yes, it will be a few hours but when it happens the experience is enchanting and unforgettable. You will find yourself enjoying the bitter cold weather outside, because Cinnabar is warming your emotions.

Funny how we are synchronised with PR ... I also tested Cinnabar, and started writing my impressions.
To me it reminded EL Youth-Dew and YSL Opium in the opening notes. Interesting, that YSL Opium came just one year before EL Cinnabar. I don't think about "copying" - 70-s was a time of "re-opening" and a craze of Eastern culture.
Well, back to the aroma - I did spray it on my wrist! :)
Cinnabar is quite dry scent, even slightly dusty - as regiments in the Chinese shops of souvenirs and spices, with thousand of other incompatible things. When it softened - yes, in all "bunch" of spices the leading was cinnamon in dusty tubules of bark, mixed with carnation on the sandalwood plates...
It is interesting warm aroma, but it is lacking deepness and contrasts to be called really exotic perfume. I would wear such scent, if I didn't know Opium yet - which for my nose is of the same olfactory direction, but incomparable deeper, multilateral.
P.S. On the way home, "snooping" to my wrist, I thought that this perfume would be harmonic with long dresses of hippy-style, or with clothes in safari-style.

I expected something different I tink, the only thing which justified my expectations was the warmness of the scent. It wasn't for me as sickening and pronounced as Luten's Rousse cinnamon ( and as one-dimentional), but I didn't like it anyway. It reminded me the smell of old closet, or kitchen's cabinet, old too, with lots of spices and stuff of uknown origins leaving their traces of smell and mixing in the dark of the drawer.
I sprayed it on a paper strip, I was scared to spray it on myself. After and hour, in a car, we felt the sickly sweet cinnamonish smell and my husband asked me if I took that 'horrible sample' (referring to Rousse), when I found in my pocket the strip sprayed with Cinnabar..I couldn't leave it anywhere near myself
just to add , I think I'd rather stick to my beloved Hermes Elixir des Merveilles, and everything with merveilles on the bottle from Hermes..

I like this until the later stages when the patchouli comes to the fore on me - Cinnabar really suits me up till that point, then it goes all wrong.

Cinnabar- WOW! My slltime favorite scent- so warm, exciting, exotic. I love the spice, the incense, the orange blossom, and I get compliments galore. Some say it's too strong, and it is powerful, but it's sooooooooooooo delicious.

This is a winter/Christmas fragrance for me. It was one of the early "very expensive" fragrances I purchased when I was young and I always associate it with the Christmas holiday. It's sensual, warm and intense with lavish balsam/incense notes. I love it. You only need a tiny drop to become aware of its presence.

I love this perfume! It smells amazing on me, something in my body chemisty alters the scent. I wear this almost every single day.

While I like Cinnabar, it's associated with horrible childhood memories. I could never wear it, but it does smell nice on others.
