A child can either charm or annoy us with the same ruthlessness. A child can be irresistible with his angel-sweet smile but he also knows how to drive us crazy. Under the angel, the faked innocence of a demon. After the gentle top notes of orange blossom and marshmallow, breaks the unexpected accord of coffee, leather and cold tobacco, a shrilling symbol of our sleepless nights. True to his reputation of «polymorphic pervert», this mini-sized tyrant is only happy when he succeeds in imposing his whims, which he always manages to do.What a sweet little monster !
Composition: Orange blossom, marshmallow, rose, moka, leather, amber, musk, tobacco
Nose for this fragrance is Antoine Lie. Divin`Enfant was launched in 2006.
I would describe Divin d'Enfant as a sort of edgy, smudged, liquoricy rose scent with a welcome hint of vanilla in the drydown. Only not actually rosy ... I can't do it justice trying to describe! It's sweet and breezy and bold at the same time. I do not particularly like it, I am not going to wear it nor would I like my man to wear it, but it's an intriguing and complex thing. This scent hits my stomach in the spot where I get a little nauseated, yet I think it was worthwhile buying a sample anyway.
A lovely, slightly gourmand fragrance. The initial sweet notes could overwhelm but thankful dry down to a subtle mixture of sweet and leather. Gorgeous!
The name of Divin' Enfant comes from an old French jingle that I used to sing every Christmas all through elementary school, until utter satiation. I still occasionally catch myself humming its haunting chorus in the shower... brrr
Leaving the memory lane aside, Divin'Enfant the perfume is quite a piece of wicked art. Its bitter-sweetness is masterfully balanced by the tobacco leaves, coffee notes and the unexpected marshmallow-vanilla accord.
This is indeed a selfish, spoiled but irresistible child that flaunts a dark, vicious streak. A 15 year old Lolita that smokes daddy's cubans with her feet on his desk, while drinking his whiskey. Insolent, provocative, borderline illegal. And sweet all along :).
The official marketing description is in fact pretty spot-on. A sweet little monster indeed. Love it!
Some fragrances are so warm and inviting that I feel they'd smell better as candles. Fragrances like Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford and various Serge Lutens fragrances come to mind. Well, Divin' Enfant (Divine Child) joins that list. It's very warm and comforting, and smells, to my nose, a lot like the smell of a Lush store. Lush being the "natural" soap and fragrance company located at various shopping malls. Granted, Divine Child smells better than the Lush stores themselves, but I can't help but drawing that comparison. The warm, resinous tobacco and incense combine with the marshmallow (which I suspect is coumarin) and smell amazing. Never to sweet, never to smokey. There's a minor coffee note in there too. It lasts a while and the coumarin base is absolutely divine (heh).
Maybe I'll grow to like Divine Child enough and eventually to purchase a full bottle. I'll have to actually spray it on. For now I feel it would work a lot better as a candle, I feel, but there's no denying how good it is. It's technically unisex, but there's something masculine in feel about it. This one is my favorite of the Etat Libre d'Orange line along with Tom of Finland and Rossy de Palma.
In my opinion this is one of the most disappointing releases by the guys at ELDO. I can't say that this composition is completely unsuccessful but it's definitely way too sweet. Divin'Enfant opens with an interesting accord of coffee and orange blossoms that while it's pretty strident it still has some charme. It could do great on the A*Men / Angel / Lolita Lempicka axis if just it didn't suddendly evolve into a generic woody ambery drydown of very little interest. If you like overwhelming sweetness in your fragrance you could enjoy this, but let me tell you that you can have plenty of better options at half the price.
Rating: 5/10
I love the way this fragrance begins - a gorgeous fusion of amber and tobacco with a hint of something sweet. After a while, the leather notes come through and the amber seems to fade but the tobacco lingers on. Unfortunately, I find it quite soapy on dry-down but up to that point it really is divine!
Thank you adrienn99 for sending a sample of this all the way from London to Oz! I think I have fallen in love, but it was a gradual thing and the first spray made me wonder if I might have to scrub it - very medicinal smelling because of the leather/orange blossom combo I think, but oh! the drydown is just magical; it seems to get stronger with the passing hours. It has an innocent sort of smell, not like baby powder, but soft like petals. Etat Libre d'Orange, I am hooked!
I'm afraid this is too sweet for me. Maybe it is because of the combination of the marshmallow and coffee, which makes it smelling like turkish delight.
This is truly a lovely, unisex/shared fragrance in EDP by a very unique and successful perfume House - Etat Libre d'Orange.
In saying that, 'Child Divine' may have a particular market for avant garde parfumistis rather than the average fragrance wearer.
I particularly sought out this fragrance because I'm a great fan of Orange Blossom and to me, it's my twin fragrance to Fleur du Male by JPG/Francis Kurkdjian.
It goes on heavy (and don't we love it!); but mellows into a more discreet and totally wearable drydown.
I know the sillage lasts, because I can actually smell it on myself for hours after I've initially sprayed it on.
For those of us who can appreciate this divine fragrance, enjoy wearing it as I do!
I was expecting something that started soft, innocent, and turned into a dark, animal leather and dry coffee confection. But instead, this child love sweets and ambery fragrances. Divin Enfant has something of the structure of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique at first. It borrows the same amber and orange flower structure, but make it more sweet using a sugary marshmallow note that turns the orange flower very candy. When it starts to develop, after 3 hours of sugared marshmallow and orange flower, the scents, instead of getting louder, go quieter for a sheer suede base with a moccha accord that has something eggy on it. This is a loud fragrance not completely pleasant and somehow anonymous too.
This is one of my faves, wear it going out and always get compliments, lasts for hours too.
A very leathery tobacco scent. To me this smells a bit like an ash tray. I do like tobacco fragrances but this just does not do it for me. Possibly nice for a man.
celestiale
wondering why i am a sucker on this as previously it did not appear as anything special to me, just sweet amber and some woodsy notes but i cant stop sniffing my wrist.
does this make sense to anyone at all?
Soft and perverse, this is my best perfume.
When the sweet marshmallow suddenly turns into tobacco, I get goosebumps and think that Divin'Enfant is a masterpiece when it comes to twisted perfumes.
Divin'Enfant makes me feel like a pervert for the sake of liking it so much! It's sexy, it boosts you with confidence, and it makes others feel puzzled. This summer, I got five compliments on D'E on a night out.
Irresistible. But the Divine Child is only for those who can understand the two sides of it. It's a work of art. * * * * *
I want this one...I have stronge feelings in regards to all of the Etat Libre scents.I either love them more than most scents or they repulse me...strange & amazing...
Images of Baby Hermsn from 1988 movie, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" came to mind when I read the description on the luckyscent.com site. "The top notes will make you coo and aww, and what follows will make you gasp in surprise." So I expected a sweet looking babe who smoked cigars.
It comes on very sweet and strong with a marshmallow scent. After 30 minutes, it does mellow out to an amber smell.
I waited and waited for the leather and floral notes to be introduced but they never came.
No "gasping surprise" ever came. Just a sweet baby cooing and needing tenderness.
I agree with fragrancefiend, this is more of a feminine fragrance. A nice scent overall.
Later in the day entry:
I ended up giving my co-worker the sample I had. Hours later I ran into her again a smell a beautiful sweet rose fragrance. When I asked her, she informed me that it was "the sample you gave me." I kept going to her office to take another smell of her wrist.
This is a beautiful feminime fragrance that starts out sweet and progresses to honeyed smoky leather or suede. The orange blossom must hang around and works with the musk to provide a sophisticated sweetness. The sillage is light but the wonderful aroma stays on the skin for several hours.
