The opening of Frédéric Malle ANGELIQUES SOUS LA PLUIE is really quite beautiful. I approached this perfume with some hesitation because of some prior negative experiences with a couple of other compositions too liberally dosed with angelica. They were something of herbal nightmares, to be perfectly frank (quoi d'autre?). This one certainly is not.

Unfortunately, after a few minutes the angelica has all but dissipated into the cosmos, leaving behind the familiar J.-C. Ellena cedar base common to a couple of the Hermès JARDIN series perfumes. By the drydown, this composition seems more like angelica locked in a cedar closet!

I'm not sure what to do with this one: it has some fine and exclusive undertones, yet the overall composition leaves some doubts. Alarmingly, I can't even say that it smells pleasantly. And really, this shouldn't be the case for any perfume, for even the cheapest of them at least get to the point of smelling nicely. For these reasons: not recommended.

I really disliked this fragrance,it even though it is Jean-Claude's creation. I see how geniously he recreated the scent of the flower, but for me it just smells like a big soup of sythetics with a hell lot of galbanum.

Earthy and grassy, soil of a rainy forest.
Very comfortable smell, like taking shelter from the rain under the tree, or being wrapped by its bark.
A masculine scent.

Ancient Greek story of Apollo and Daphne crossed my mind.
If the small radical urchin Eros regrets his attitude and say sorry before her body turns to a tree, will the fate of two change?:)

Ah the mysteries of quirky skin chemistry! I get an initial burst of fresh tonic water mixed with something slightly spicy. I assume this comes from the angelicas. After an hour the scent mellowed into... lead pencil! I'm not joking, even my friend who sampled this with me was shocked. I would sample this again just to confirm the oddness of the reaction with my skin!

Wait a minute! Months ago I received a sample of this, I wore it on my wrists for the day and I loved the beginning but I thought it disappeared too rapidly. I promptly forgot about it. Today I rediscovered the sample and decided to use it up for the day. Well, wow!! 8 hours later and I can still smell it as the fragrance periodically comes to my nose. It smells lke a delicious orange citrus martini. Just fresh, fresh, fresh! It is wonderful. There are some indoles in there for sure, but it doesn't blur the scent. This would be great for the spring, summer and office anytime. I know that Elena continues to use the orange as his signature note and this variation is beautiful.

I quite like ASLP and despites the name I think it's more a masculine. It opens with a crispy, bitter and somehow fresh angelica accord that quickly settles down turning the whole thing to be a clean and trasparent cedar-musc scent. Minimalistic and not very complex but absolutely pleasant and yet quite distinctive. My only disappointment is for the price. A serious contendant if just cheaper.

The "traditionally masculine" notes of Angéliques Sous La Pluie blend to make one of the most gentle cloud-like true unisex fragrances-pepper over the delicate aroma of young herbs growing under tall cedar woods-the herbal notes of angelica and coriander are so refined that this woody floral musk could scent the clothes of cherubs-or some royalty with the most delicate composition. Almost smells like rain-that could be a note in this fragrance...

As sweet as the water coming from an unpolluted lake in a forest somewhere north, but indeed fresh and bitter and peppery-So beautiful and balanced, sprightly...Why can't anybody make a fragrance (like this!)so divine without charging as much as Frederic Malle?

The woods after a rain shower, childhood play camps in the undergrowth, sunlight shafting through the canopy, breaking twigs under footfall. This is my life in a bottle, as fresh as a kid running in from the garden, grubby face and shining eyes. The first blast is a real tear jerker, for the "attack" of this fragrance is the coriander "tang" which has scented the skin of every man I fell in love with, whether he deserved it or not. I cant live without this perfume, it is reliable, faithful and gentle.

The packaging says Angelica, Juniper Berries, and Coriander. My chef's brain says that all adds up to a high quality gin, and that's what this smells like for the first five minutes, so don't spray it on just before rolling down the window for the traffic cop who just pulled you over for running that red light. Dries down to an entirely agreeable musk and wood blend. I don't know if Ellena intended this for men, but it makes a fine, understated, gentlemanly masculine. It's quite quiet (hey, two anagrams!), and would be great both in the office and out walking in the park. I like it, but not enough to shell out $200 on it; if I was more solvent, it would be on my want list. If anybody bought it and hates it, I'll take it off of your hands...

Starting with a sharp spicy dry herbs. After a moment adding peppers, (but it is not black ground pepper) and coniferous tree branch. Very fresh and at the same spicy, sunny and warm. With a light smell of angeliques.

Angéliques Sous La Pluie starts off very fresh, very green, very herbally, somewhat familiar... wait a minute, it is Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
No wonder. The nose behind both fragrances is Jean-Claude Ellena.
It’s hard to describe them other than "fresh" or "green".
However, Angéliques Sous La Pluie stays on the feminine side, it gets creamy and sweetish upon the drydown, while Un Jardin Sur Le Nil has a more masculine edge.
Soever, if you’re looking for something light and inoffensive, I’d recommend it.

I must say I have to change my review for this now. As I has sprayed this on a coat a week ago and when I went to put this on yesterday It smelled Heavenly.. Wow. Now I must have this. Wish I could describe the scent but nothing comes to mind.. It is unlike anything really I have ever tried. I do like this, but had to give it awhile...

I think the opening of this is very tonic and citrusy. I have no idea what angelica is but it dries down on me very peppery. Sorta boring but just sniffing this stuff out of the bottle and not on your skin, is Heavenly.. OHH my I really enjoy just smelling this in the bottle, It just turns too peppery on my skin too boring... almost like bugspray...

The opening of this fragrance is very fresh and at the same time bitter, spicy, tonic and flowery - Jean-Claude Ellena managed to catch the incredible pure scent of angelicas. (The very first few seconds after spraying it, this fragrance reminds me Louis Feraud "Sunshine Eau d'Ete".) As time goes by, the smell becomes warmer and softer, i would say even sweeter, until it leaves the scent of dried angelicas put into the pine box together with dried forest berries. Very nice fragrance for early spring or autumn.
