Shalimar Black Limited Christmas Edition was introduced in 2007 as limited Christmas edition bottle of this classic fragrance. The perfume composition remains the same, available in parfum and eau de parfum concentrations, in a mysterious, black bottle.

The Shalimar entry is so crowded, so I will add some variations of my collection here. I have a vintage extrait circa 1950 and a 2000 EDT. They are both the seductress, however. The differences are dramatic indeed. They both contain the very heart and soul of Shalimar. How do they differ?
The vintage extrait is very linear and one drop maintains itself for hours and days. It seems to penetrate your skin and becomes a part of you. The saying "Shalimar chooses you, not the other way around" is very accurate. This is very much the case with the extrait. Its a little spooky as you remember the notes later. You never forget Shalimar. Its an invisible blue haze that cloaks you. You are in a temple of love.
Onto the 2000 EDT. It is more user friendly. All of the notes listed make an appearance, and progress of the course of the day. After an hour or two, the gentle florals peek through for about an hour. The base notes are similar to fine Indian incense. Sandalwood and vanilla pair well with the dark, smokey, leathery musk. The civet whispers gently. Yes your nose can treat itself to the journey. Its basically the same journey, with a tour guide. This was, not so long ago fine art.
Now,(post 2003 batches) Shalimar has changed. The sandalwood and vanilla are synthetic. The civet is gone forever. These changes are acceptable. At least it smells like Shalimar! For you purists, search for a vintage, if you do not already have some. Perhaps one day, she will be restored in every way.
Claims or no claims, there had always been some Oakmoss in Shalimar. A small but necessary percentage.
Why did they include oakmoss in the ingredients? Oh well, this is the new formulation but still so beautiful in the parfum and I was lucky enough to get the last bottle they had in the Champs-Elysees store in Sept. 2007. Very costly but worth it.
I couldn't agree more. Of course there isn't ANY OAKMOSS. This edition is a classic we all know. Only bottle is different and makes it so special.
