For nearly 10 years now, my two signature scents have both been composed by Jean-Claude Ellena, they are Un Jardin en Mediteranee and Hermessence Vetiver Tonka. When I got a sample of the Terre d'Hermes pure parfum, I fell in love with the simple and yet powerful scent.
As we all know, Jean-Claude Ellena is renowned for creating scents that are targeted at both the "masculine" and "feminine" markets (I used quotation marks because I never believe in such a meaningless dichotomy in olfactory poetry). The overt citrusy notes in this scent tones down the apparent "masculinity" of the woody/fougere base notes. In conjunction, the citrus top notes also adds a refreshing vibrance to a "masculine" scent.
Furthermore, the pure perfume "sticks" to the skin, extending its longevity and sillage. Personally, I would usually liberally apply perfumes and frequently find myself reapplying the perfumes that I am using. However, I haven't found myself needing to reapply Terre d'Hermes because of the unique scent of the base notes it emits as time passes. Simply put, this will be the third signature scent that I will be using.
Like it but not as a perfume.
I could never wear it.To me seems like it tries too hard.
not bad. it smells unique but it could've been better if the concentration was in EdP. since parfum stays so close to the skin.
I'm a woman and I can't stand this. It's horrible to my nose. Sorry
A woman weighing in on Terre d'Hermes: When-o-when are we going to stop defining every scent as masculine or feminine and just wear well-made scents that smell good to us, with confidence, as that's all takes to pull any scent off with panache. Whether you're male or female, Terre d'Hermes is a great scent. I'm wearing the parfum version of it as I type this and I know that if it was bearing a Serge Luten's label, there would be more reviews from women about how wonderful it is. It's all about perception.
TDH one of the best day time fragrance for men in both variations...definitely a compliment magnet.
I dont see any significant difference among them both but dominating vetiver with pepper in edt... may be oranges selected for edp are more sweater than those used in edt;) EDP starts very sweetly (orange sweetness) and richly and finishes with prevailing moss , a more rounded version imo.
A must have especially as a work cologne. thumz up
Mmmm, maybe the parfum version that I've sampled, for the third time on my skin, is a bit too pungent for me. I like it but it's just too darn much.

After having Terre d'Hermes EdT and smelling a sample of the Pure Parfum (and then buying a bottle), I am writing this in perspective of differences between the two - and how they 'co-exist'. Personally, I enjoy and have deep admiration for both - and a layered wearing of them together is simply the best option, for me...they speak to me uniquely, but have wonderful harmony together. Great synergy as they each unfold their own unique depth and create something amazing when layered. Not all EdT and EdP/Parfum's of scents do this - and Terre d'Hermes does it to near perfection.
I will be concise (hopefully, not too much so) - the EdT is louder with more projection, but less concentration of scent and evolves a bit more. It has more of the peppery/spicy quality along with more of the "mineral earthiness/flint accord" - that projects well off the skin. The vetiver is more dominant at the end because of the scent's evolution along with cedar.
The Pure Parfum, however, is more dense, wears closer and has a deeper orange and grapefruit (juice, rind and even a bit of stem from the orange with more pure juice from the grapefruit) - it is fantastically-rich citrus! The pepper is there (but not as loud) and you end up getting a slightly smoky/charred wood note with the cedar...interesting, along with the nice vetiver. The mineral/earthiness is dampened by the incredible amount of fresh-squeezed citrus. The flint accord is not present in the Pure Parfum.
Visual imagery - Imagine cracked, dry earth - with dried, gnarled vetiver roots coming out of the ground with an orange and grapefruit "sweating" their juices under the hot, baking sun with fresh ground pepper dusted on top near an old dried cedar tree log...this is Terre d'Hermes EdT. Please note how there is 'closeness', but separation of notes here.
Now, imagine not one orange or grapefrut, but an entire pile - much more fresh and several cut open and squeezed, dampening the earth, the pepper grounds are floating in the puddle of orange and grapefruit juice under the same hot sun. The earth is refreshed by the citrus...the dried vetiver root is still there - but, moistened by the juices of the orange & grapefruit. However, the cedar tree log was struck by lightening a while back and a charred stump and log remain in the distance - a light smokiness emerges. The natural sugar of the citrus 'bakes' onto the dried wood sap, blending to form a touch of resin - creating a benzoin accord. On the shady side of the log, a bit of dried oakmoss is there - lichen that is earthy (not damp) from the last season of rain months before. This is not a sweet scent, but incredibly vibrant with an underlying earthiness that creates gorgeous accords. What dominates is all that deep, wet citrus and the rest of the notes offer touches, nuances and undertones. This is Pure Parfum.
That is how I paint the "pictures of difference"...with admiration for both. Again, a layered wearing is optimal. You get the gorgeous and damp citrus, flinty mineral notes, cracking vetiver root, dried wood (a touch smoky) and even a touch of sappy resin and dried moss.
A brilliant composition - in reality this is two reviews in one, but in order to understand (fully), one must have perspective of both. Ellena's best work are in these two bottles.
Cheers.
This guy needs no introduction... :)
The strange (disappointing) thing is Terre d'Hermes Hermes for men is BETTER.
The parfume version is strangely sharp and may make your nose hurt a bit.

I plan on giving this another shot. I've smelled it before and it was noisome. It's one of those awesome scents you learn to appreciate if you don't love it already.
One of my favourites, suitable anytime/anywhere. Right off the bat you are confronted by rich almost gourmand orange pomander accord, that curls lazily up from your skin, there is something heavy and luxurious about how the scent moves in air, almost like you can sense the density of the parfum concentration. I also experience a slight tomato leaf accord on opening also, probably a combination of the notes that I read like that, but the best way I can describe, very aromatic and very beautiful. During the dry down the vetiver comes through with a velvety, sweet richness.
All in all a quality scent... thank you Jean Claude Ellena.
Terre is elegant, notable, and high class but at the same time it is down to earth (no punt intended with its name...but it may well be). It seems that most colognes designed for day wear smell so much alike. But this one stands out, in a league of its own. Terre takes you into a cloud of elegance, while you wear jeans and a shirt under any weather, time of year, location, or occasion...it will not offend anybody while making a stand. It is equally versatile at night for a formal activity (dinner, party, etc), a date, or encounter with friends. The aroma is fantastic. The natural orange peel note is dark and dirty and the woodsy aromas just gives it this brilliant background that makes you smell distinguished (the EDP version is very long lasting)...this fragrance just makes you feel happy, comfortable and elegant all day and night.
Believe it or not, and I don't gather that this would be hard to believe, I am female and this is the first fragrance that I have ever fallen in love with and purchased in EdP without a second thought.
Terre is so subtle and mysterious. So effortless to wear. For a woman, tomboy chic. For a man, a gentleman who appreciates the aesthetic of understated elegance.
Amomg the best perfumes I have ever worn...It gives you confidence and makes you feel glad...

@SNAILS, the word 'monsieur' is actually French for adult male.
hmm rotten oranges, Iso E super and cedar.
yeah not my fav scent, much better out there to purchase.
@snails thanks,my bad,i thumbed up your attention:)
@3gecos, Jean-Claude Ellena is a mister, not a "madame" :)
I was really struggling myself to understand,to like this perfume(edt) and when i almost gave up i received 2 edp samples.Oh boy,the concentration change everything!Until now i've never meet a perfume made more purposely than this, the level of projection on my skin is the same from the first till the 8th hour,it's not a overwhelming scent,it's a more close to you scent made to stick.Longevity 10+ hours. The scent...yes,a walk into a sicilian orange orchard on a rainy day when you can smell the best oranges squashed with you muddy feet!Give it a couple of tries guys!Top perfumery at its finest,A+ monsieur Jean-Claude Ellena.
I bought a sample of the eau de TOILETTE and liked it when I dicited to buy the bottle I though, might as well buy a eau de PERFUME. They smell very very simila .One spray of parfume outlast and is stronger than two TOILETTE sprays. At first the parfume smell very different. The TOILETTE has deeper pepper like smell all the time. The parfume starts out Orangey then after 5min it starts to smell peppery ike the eau de TOILETTE I think the drydown are exactly the same just that the parfume smells a lot stronger. The the parfume is definitely a Much Better buy no argument.
I got the sample yesterday .. This is so delicious & balmy !! and can be easily used as Unisex !! It smells like sweet nougat :D
I received the TERRE D”HERMES Eau de Parfum 6.7 oz. spray on 12/13/2012. I purchased blind based upon positive revues. After wearing it for the first time I am eager to share my first comment ever concerning a fragrance I have purchased. It delights me to report that this spray parfum has the most elegant fragrance of any I have ever worn. From the first citrusy notes to its lingering light, woodsy scent, it brings a smile of confidence knowing that this quite unique fragrance is not overpowering yet quite comforting. I have at least a dozen men's EdTs and EdPs. This is now my signature scent and I highly recommend the Parfum to confident adults who are searching for one of the best designer fragrances available.
This scent oozes class to me!! A lot more opulent than the EDT version. When I buy fragrances I tend to go for the parfum (pure) or intense as I love a heavy sillage. At first spray it's almost like rubbing a freshly squeezed orange onto the skin along with olive oil, it clings to you like a barnacle on a boat and doesn't seem to let go, A marvelous scent that simply lasts for days on your clothes. The EDT version didn't seem to carry much longevity on me and I took a real punt with the pure parfum version and now I can't get enough!! Strong citrus top note without a doubt but I get this musky, earthy almost forest base note that surrounds me after about 10 mins and I find that's the clinching note when people comment on it so much. A real winner and one of the most sophisticated scents on the market right now, trust me this will set you apart in a busy room.
On me it's exactly the same as Coriandre by Jean Couturier. I already have a bottle of Coriandre, so after sampling Terre relaxed about buying this one. Total absolute similarity. It it were music, there might be a lawsuit for plagiarism, and Couturier would win it.
My favourite fragrance is Hiris, so I have been sampling other Hermes offerings. I think you either get Ellena or you don't.This one leaves me cold. It's ok, and that's the best I can say. It's not deep or sexy, it's not bright and cheerful. It's non specific woody citrus could be anything really. Voyage is ok too.. but it's sweeter and more feminine with some musk. This might be ok if you wanted a generic fragrance for work...but why settle for mediocre when you could have great. Might be worth saying that it also caused wheezing and allergies when sprayed on my husband.
This was a good surprise. It has at the same time an old school vibe and also a modern vibe. Great lasting power, sillage and projection. Dries down to a sweet and citric smell that's real close to natural. Definetely thumbs up!
I got this perfume based on the reviews here, I wanna say Im not disappointed , this perfume is amazing , its not my type though, but I've to say after it cools down its verrrrrrrrrry lovely.... and its very long lasting !!
Hithereimdan: I agree that both are of exceptional quality and it is not where the differences lie. But I have to disagree - the parfum indeed smells sweeter, almost gourmand, compared to the edt which is dryer and harsher in a similar way of Yatagan, yet more tamed. The sweetness in the parfum comes out during its mid and base notes, well not few hours of wearing it.
I love both, but after going back to school, it just got too much of a luxury for me. :)

I've worn both the EDT and this EDP and I keep going back and forth about which I like best. Let me try to describe the differences between them. I've got them both on right now, on opposite arms.
Let me start by saying that I disagree with some of the ways people have characterized the difference between these fragrances. I don't think the EDP smells sweeter or of higher quality than the EDT. The main difference for me is in the vetiver and cedar notes -- the EDT is a much cleaner smelling fragrance in those notes and the EDP is much earthier smelling. I think, if you could only have one, I would suggest the EDT becaus it's much more versatile. The EDP is more dirt-smelling--more masculine you might say, but it's almost too earthy/dirty for work or casual occasions.
I hope that helps you tell these two apart. They're both great fragrances though, and if you have the funds and you like to smell earthy -- splurge and buy both!
High quality fragrance.
To me it is sweet orange all the way, rich and natural and of high resolution, as you would expect from a perfume. (And the correct label is actually "parfum", not EDP).
I do not detect individual notes of earth or wood, but I do not doubt that they are there, in the background, influencing the orange and giving it a kind of "earthy" connection, as if it grew right out of the soil. In that sense, this fragrance seems more "natural" to me than being a synthetic "perfume".
Luca Turin (A-Z) gave the EDT three stars, but I think he would give this perfume version four.
Longevity is on me shorter than many other EDPs I own, and it doesn't project very strongly either. I will have to experiment a little longer on the best way to apply.
When to wear? From time to time, daytime, freetime, familytime. Not a business scent, not a scent of seduction, and not something you would wear every day, just as you hardly eat an orange a day as there are so many other fruits out there ;)
But it smells fresh and good and healthy, and of high quality. So a Sunday visit to friends? Why not.
What a unique beauty .
Starts off fresh : beautiful natural blend of orange and grapefruit , you can almost bath in it .
Then after a good 15 minutes, the benzoin and woods come out and stay till the end, making this a semi-sweet earthy heaven in a bottle.
The ingredients in this are far from synthetic and smell so rich and dense ( how an EDP should be ) .
Projection : personal/moderate
Longevity : 8 hours
My top favorite right now !
I prefer the Parfum over the EDT, and yes I love it. I have been contemplating purchasing this one for literally months, and finally I did. It is so unique and different. Yes, I could point out all the different notes, but to me it just smells like earth. It's so capturing for me, and I'm so glad I have it in my collection. One of my top fragrances for fall/winter. But really, you could wear this everyday. J'adore Terre d'Hermès!
this perfume is interestingly sweet and sour and fresh in the start but after 2 hours you can not feel it anymore.............not long lasting
I originally bought this when it first came out in 2009 at an overseas duty-free and I thought it was FANTASTIC. After finishing that bottle a year or so later I bought the EDT ( not knowing anything about the differences between EDP vs Edt) and did not like it at all. Where was the rich citrus, the soothing benzoin- a very, smooth masculine scent that reminded me of the scent I wore back in 2009?
The EDT had too much harsh pepper, light and airy with seemingly none of the backbone of the EDP. I basically thought it had been reformulated and gave it away! Another fantastic scent never to be smelled again....
Just bought the EDP again realizing the mistake I had made. Thank God! Terre d'Hermes Parfum smells like home to me and I'm so glad I've rediscovered it!
Quality juice and a delight for the senses. Terre d' Hermes parfum is number 1 in my top five fragrances.
Overall Rating: A++
I love this one. For a citrus based scent, it lasts forever. Maybe the EDT has better sillage, but this one still does just fine.
The isn't your typical orange like you would find in Happy or some of the other basic summer time scents, but rather a deeper orange peel smell.
This is great almost anywhere, and since it is not the sweet fruity orange scent, it works for almost any time also. Casual or semi-formal occasions, day or evening - this stuff works!
Not much projection. Smells like fresh grapefruit, orange, and lemon zest to me. Even has the faintest whiff of that "rubbery note" that Bvlgari Black features so prominently. Is it a tea note perhaps, or ozone? I just received it yesterday, but either way, I certainly NOT blown away. It's primarily a sharp, well-done citrus smell that is tempered only by that one other note, which is apparently supposed to smell earthy, from what I hear. Don't believe the hype, guys. It's a great scent, and very classy too. It's unique, but that having been said, you must strongly desire to smell like fresh citrus oil and not very much else if you are going to love this. It's VERY one dimensional for all this nonsense about it being a neo-classic! LOL! Maybe you all ought to inhale through your noses sometime...
Scent 7/10
Projection 4/10
Uniqueness 8/10
Versatility 10/10
Overall: 5/10
it is me or is this just a toned down version of vetiver tonka?
Yuck. Overrated and stronggggg! It smells like TF: White Vetiver, I prefer that. It's lighter and subtle.
I test smelled this the other day. “Wow!” I exclaimed in the shop. It smells unusual but heavenly. I have never smelled a scent as unique and original as this. The bottle and the colour of its contents are extremely attractive, warm and magnetising. I fell in love with this perfume instantly.
It never occurred to me that there is a predominant “orange” note as cited by many reviewers. I cannot bear the thought of smelling like a freshly peeled orange for half a day. But the orange seems to be woven into the other ingredients so magnificently that it is not dominating at all. It is difficult to believe that the perfume pyramid reveals only five ingredients. How the creators have managed to blend these five ingredients into this amazing fiery yellow juice is beyond me. At home I could not stop smelling my wrist, savouring the marvellous dry down.
Based on the reviews here (the fact that it is supposed to have good longevity) and my single test I will have no hesitation in buying this when the budget permits.
A 4.50 average rating based on 362 ratings and 83 user reviews is one of the highest I have seen on Fragrantica. This is a good reflection of this true beauty!
I love this juice, but I'm usually not dressed to where it. So it mostly sits on my shelf.
Very dry fragrance, no sweetness whatsoever. Orange peels, cedar, and minerals is what get mostly.
Very linear, amazing longevity and sillage...
Mixed first impressions but it's grown on me a lot. Longevity is the best I have experienced (this is often a problem for me). The scent I first found a little bitter (or even too citrus) and maybe peppery but this this soon gives way to a woody spicy scent that just keeps going. I've read both good and bad reviews but I'm happy to report that I'm happy I've found a quality scent that's worth the money.
Go easy on he application though, less is more in this case, otherwise you'll gag. 4 sprays max (2 on he chest/neck area and one on each wrist) is all you need. Lasts a full working day at he office.
I want it for my husband and for me also! This an earthy, mossy, lemony fresh smell. Marvelous!
One of the best fragrances I've ever smelt. Amazing stuff. Love it ..
First of all, thanks Ellena for this great juice!
What can I tell about this fragrance.
It's a fantastic woody spicy fragrance with great scent of bitter orange.
Start with sharp and strong scent of bitter orange, pepper, woodsy notes and vetiver all at the same time.
But bitter orange and pepper are more intense than the other notes.
In the drydown again you can smell all the notes plus only hint of sweet notes and stronger vetiver and stronger black pepper.
It's not a sensual fragrance to attract opposite sex! this fragrance made for a real gentleman!
I already have both EDT and Pure Parfum version.
I've tested them both head to head.
Both are very close to each other but at the same time there are some differences.
While the EDT version is more spicy and earthy, the Pure Parfum version is more smoky and woodsy!
In the EDT version you can smell vetiver much more and in the Pure Parfum the woodsy notes are easily detectable and the woodsy notes are stronger than the vetiver note.
So if you like your Terre D'Hermes more woody than earthy, go for Pure Parfum and if you like it to be more earthy, go for EDT version.
Very good projection and longevity with both but EDT has a little better projection but Pure Parfum has a little better longevity.
I have both the parfum and the edt, so have included an excerpt from my edt review -
Terre d'Hermes just leaves me in a state of olfactory delight. The opening puts me in mind of a wooden bowl of dried orange-peel potpourri, so bitter yet so fragrant. Blending into this come the ozonic, vetiver and cedar notes that, combined with the opening, create a a beautiful harmonious 'experience'. I say experience because when I close my eyes and smell Terre, it's not thoughts of the perfume's notes that come to mind, but Paris, Nice, specifically Florence... places I have visited that for some reason are triggered by it. The pallet colours of these cities; the burt orange, creamy yellows, and terracotta tiles. The warmth of the dry air against the cool shadow of the tall architecture lining the streets.
What I find with the parfum is that it trades off the projection and slightly crisper top notes of the eft for heaps more richness and depth. I own both, and love both equally. If I was forced to put them into any sort of categorisation, it would be edt daywear, parfum for the night.
This is an amazing scent. I own the EDT version and will have to add the parfum very soon. This starts with the orang/grapfruite combination and the pink pepper very similar to the EDT. Whats different in the parfum is the citrus is alot more smoother and the pink pepper note lingers on for a much longer. This scent does not project as much but will last alot longer on the skin i have seen that after washing my hands i could still easily smell the scent on my wrist.
The cedar base is toned down a bit and to my nose the orange isn't as acidic which gets the grapfruit to show up a tiny bit more here. There is definatley more vetiver in this scent compared to the EDT. It is also a little more dirtier and more earthy in a greesy way (EDT cleaner smell of the two).I am not the biggest fan of the cedar base and here it is toned down so i will definatley be replacing my EDT with parfum. By no means is this parfum version superior to the EDT but lets just call it J C E changing the balance a bit.
Scent 9.5/10
What more can be said of this amazing scent! Its a work of art and definintely one of the best ever created. Hats off to Jean Claude Ellena for coming up with this MASCULINE masterpiece.
Ahhh Terre D'Hermes . . . I just want to indulge in its earthy magnificence. This scent has all the qualities that one would look for in order to label a fragrance as 'Perfect'. I just can't seem to be able to find any flaws with it (its such an unbelievable formulation).
Adding to the 'out of this world' smell of Terre D'Hermes is its excellent longevity and projection. A complete package! And if your pockets are warm, try acquiring its EdP version (It'll knock you off your feet!).
Heaven can really wait as long as Terre D'Hermes is around !!

Great frag but I just can't stand the dryness. If you love mineral notes and a huge dry woody note then you will love this.
Have a 200ml Parfum to part with if there are lovers of this frag. It is classy smelling indeed on others, just that I don't like the ISO e super and stark dryness.
I think I like Timbuktu over this one.
Sorry to totally disagree with you,ZELJO on the longevity of this, it is a beast that projects very well and lasts at least 10 hours..
cannot understand the hype about that one, smells poorly,if compared with its price, and shortlasting,a nature fragance not worth what it costs
Been wearing this for about a year (had EDT before that). Don't know much about scents but have had at least 10 woman ask what I was wearing ......... so am sticking with it :) - but will probably try narciso rodriguez next just for a change.
NB I am male, 50, London
It could be me but does this parfum have a baby powder and floral with some woods scent to you? It smells good though and has a good longevity on me (after all its parfum). IMHO, a woman could wear this but I find it very nice. I tired it in Marcus Neimens, 9 out of 10. My girlfriend also tried it on and she got a few complaments on what she was wearing...if that tells you anything.
Amazing...This smells exactly like i want to smell all the time....the best stuff i have that i wear for me other than A*men...well, i mostly wear a fragrance for me but people could hate this( ya right!) and i would still wear it proudly...
Can't say enough about it so lets just say this, when i die this is what i want put on my corpse just before they cremate me..lol
I am surprised that it doesn't get you as many compliments as La Male or La nuit Homme, even the Desire red of Dunhill competes but it doesn't.
It remains close to you, though you can detect the sharp burnt oranges but nobody else does.
Anyways i found the pure perfume better and soothing than that of EDT which was way too sharp. This one is somehow tamed and pleasant.
Invite your friends to a barbecue, then tell them to close their eyes let them envisage their upper telepathic region.. Introduce yourself to that room wearing a small amount of this men's perfume and transfer the atmosphere around, be noticed not just for an outstanding aroma but the uniqueness of this distinctive, yet intangible character that has passed their nasal olfactory nerves..
Who is brave enough to carry such strength?
Definitely one of the best mens perfumes out there BUT not for the faint hearted teenager whose world in taste has just moved away from all things candy and dandy..
Mr.Hermes has someone just put them sweet oranges on the barbecue??
A masterpiece having an intense yet very pleasing disposition..
BEWARE OF THE OBSERVING ATTENTION!!
If you're a fresh orange/grapefruit and woody chypre lover this is divine..!!!
I consider Terre d'Hermes very uplifting, comfortable and of course it is a quality scent. The citrus is soft, so no sharpness here.
The sillage is ok and the longevity good. After scrubbing, for wanting to chance scents, Terre was still noticable on my skin..!
A glorious unisex scent
Edit: this is about the parfum
I really found it to be an advanced evolution from the EDT. Some of it sweeter, and the intuitive extension of the taste changes. And sometimes I think it's visually more younger, even if it is parfum.
I am still considering between EDT and Parfum versions, but I think I will buy them together. The main reason is that it is too unique and has a natural charm.
I was lucky to get 4 samples of this brilliant fragrance from the perfume boutique.
It's a very unique scent.
Orangy,woody,peppery,earthy(vetiver)with a slightly grapefruit smell.
I enjoy the EDT version but this is a higher level composition.
Notes are more refined, sometimes with the original orange smell became too synthetic to my nose.
A stronger, more naturel and woody scent then the original.
It's neither warm nor cool.
Preferable in spring, winter and fall, will be perfect in a sunny day after rain.
Beast in longevity 8+hours with strong projection.
P.S: In testing,it may give u a headache,so just wear it and enjoy,it's all written about the composition!
A top quality masculine chypre fragrance with distinct citrus and dry woody-earthy character.
At the begining Terre Parfum is very citrusy and fresh - I get a slight cucumber note even, which is quite pleasant and invigorating. Soon the true beauty emerges with heavy and bitter grapefruit, lots of pepper and I could swear I detect some anise even, which altogether gets blended with just gorgeous oakmoss and soothed with a touch of benzoin. The peppery vibe makes this scent intriguing and so appealing ...
Terre is finally something I consider truly masculine - classy, elegant, reserved and with a non-sweet ambience - on the other hand, it's kind of sad I won't be able to wear it myself for this reason ;)
Longevity is excellent - applied sparingly in the morning and still going strong after 8 hours.
EXCELLENT!
★★★★★
I'd say it's a bit more sweet and heavier than the EDT. and also it's more like a "TERRE" should be. It's perfect the way it is and it's singular. TERRE will surely develop to be one of the classics and an evergreen.
I simply love it. I love the initial freshness of the citrus, the subtle sweetness that comes from the benzoin and the dryness given by the woodsy notes.. Craving is what it brings to my mind. Sensual. It's fresh, it's intense and it gets you deep into your soul. I am a woman but I love some fragrances for men. It makes me think of a gentleman, elegant, lively, playful and irresistible. But I might even consider buying Terre d'Hermes for myself, it's just too good a smell to wait to sniff it on a man "maybe one day"...
Right off the bat let me state that Terre d´Hermes Parfum is one of the most unique fragrances I´ve ever sniffed. Having fallen in love (truly, madly, deeply) with the original Eau de Toilette version, I could hardly wait for this year´s Christmas to come as this was the gift I knew I´d find under the Christmas tree.
In Terre Parfum, the vegetal and mineral facets of the fragrance are prominent and make a noticeable statement. I find its citrus accord less pronounced than in the Eau de Toilette. To my nose, the grapefruit note is virtually non-existent. However, what my inexperienced nose does identify successfully is the orange peel accord, which smells incredibly naturally. In fact, the other day, after peeling a few oranges, the smell lingering on my fingers was comparable to the one contained in Terre Parfum. The fragrance then moves on to its woody-spicy heart, dominated mostly by cedar and benzoin. It finishes off with an earthy note which is also accentuated in the Parfum version.
What astounds me about Terre d´Hermes Parfum is that despite its concentration, it´s by no means overwhelming, attention-stealing or headache-inducing. On the contrary, its sillage is rather moderate, yet its lifespan pretty impressive. Just when you think it´s vanished, sniff your wrist and you´ll find its earthy base is still alive and kicking. I´d recommend wearing Terre Parfum in the colder months of the year, but I suspect it can work well in the spring, too. I shall definitely put it to the test. As far as the potential fan base for Terre Parfum is concerned, I believe what´s true of the Eau de Toilette is doubly so of the Parfum version. There´s every likelihood it will mostly appeal to the 30+ crowd since it totally lacks the lightweight ozonic aquatic character so widespread in so many (or rather TOO many!) modern-day fragrances for (young) men these days.
My final verdict: Terre d´Hermes Parfum is a rare and beautiful jewel. I love it to bits! :-)
simply love it !!!
Wow! This perfume is a complete blast of Vetiver! If you are not fond of the earthy dryness of vetiver, stay away from this.
It's lovely when it settles. Orangey, woodsy, grassy masculine and strong. I haven't smelled it on alot of people but my other half just bought this at the airport on our trip to India.
I love that there's benzoin in this but I'm yet to find it in here, it's getting stomped over by all that vetiver!!!
The dry down sees this turn much sexier oooh lord!
Good scent, not for me but deffo sexy on the right person!
I also love how if you turn the bottle and look at it from the bottom it's in the shape of an "H" nice little touch, along with the twisty lid that rises up when you turn it!
Hello fragrantica fans! I'm quite a newbie around here, so i'm not so familiar with the slangs and terms. Will anyone be kind enough to educate me on somethings, please?
What's the difference between EDT and EDP?
What is the word "SILLAGE"? I have check even from an Encyclopedia Dictionary and still can't find the word; i guess it's a slang around here on Fragrantica?
I'm loving this site...just recently discovered it, and still loving it.
Answers please? Waiting...?
I'm a woman, I know someone who has it as his signature scent. I find it too strong, he's probably "showering" with it... Also would advise to test before you buy and not to put too much if you don't want to gaz the ladies around you ;-)
I have to go against the grain on this one. It's really the only scent in my collection that I could not, nor would ever wear. It is so strong and dark that it leaves the realm of scent and becomes a chemical soup for me. Just as opressively loud noise obviates calm and balance, this scent sits in my stomach and made me aware that all in the room were wondering who was wearing what. Bought blind; and cautioning those who might do the same.
What a sillage and what a great scent! im not trying to convince anybody but im very happy this one came out and i discovered this gem just a few months ago!!! im just to busy with my work that i forgot about my passion ... i was getting so bored with all designer frags these days.
All where not impressing me and just OK everytime i walked in a perfume store i scanned the shelves for new ones hoping to get again that feeling ... in this case it was Terre D'hermes, it blew my mind!
This one makes me happy and that should a scent must achive, make you happy from inside every tine you put it on...
:-)
tnx ellena!
First off, make sure you test both the EDT and EDP on yourself. They are different in subtle ways IMO/IME. I tested them both extensively and ended up focused on the EDP.
I've worn this scent many times, and I've written a fair number of reviews already on this site. But I've never really been able to write a review for TdH because I simply can't put words down to describe this thing. It's abstract. It's not like Hermès is trying to replicate X or Y nor are they necessarily trying to put forth the best M or N accord. It's just simply lovely - however you want to describe it!
What I appreciate so much about it is that in the drydown, the individual scents mix to create this odor of ultra-high-quality, light leather - as one might expect from a Hermès product, given their history. Leather's not listed in the notes here, and I bet it isn't explicitly in here. Rather we are given an abstraction of leather, which is part of why the construction of TdH is so damn impressive IMHO.
If you've read my reviews, it's clear I like distinct, different, even 'pushy' scents. TdH might not fit that bill per se (cf. my odd love affair with Profvmvm Roma Fvmidvs) but as far as I'm concerned, TdH is among the finest juices ever bottled. It is my signature scent.
Someday I hope I have the pleasure of meeting Jean-Claude Ellena so I can give him a big hug as a thank-you for creating TdH. Exceptionel! Merci beaucoup!!!
Terre d'Hermes is a truly unique blend of flinty earth, charred wood, orange peel and ozone. Quite possibly it is the best of the modern masculines.
Terre comes in two flavors, the original EDT and the Parfum which comes in a smaller bottle for the same price. Though more concentrated, the Parfum stays closer to the skin with less sillage, and requires the same number of sprays as the EDT. Try both on skin before you buy as they are quite different.
Terre EDT is an orange peel thrown at the foot of a dwindling wood fire at the edge of a cedar forest. It is cold stone, mineral and ozonic. It is literally burnt orange.
Terre PARFUM is the same orange hours before, uneaten but baking in the noonday sun. The cold mineral accord is gone but the cedar and charred wood are there, and the whole thing is somehow rounder, fresher, more ripe than the EDT.
NOTE: The wonderful cedar accord that is the base of both versions of Terre d'Hermes is notorious for causing olfactory fatigue. Meaning the Terre you smell today will be missing half its glory tomorrow. I have waited up to two weeks between wears of the EDT, which I own, and still can't smell the cedar.
I kept my mind clear of expectations. And I think that I may have found my Signature scent!
Upon my first spray, I was taken. I now know what everyone else who loved this scent now knows. Amazing.
Wearing it my first day and with in an hour. I received my first complement. And it was from a beautiful woman.
My day has been made.
This is the best perfume I ever have though its life is short....EDP is better than EDT..It stays longer.
U can wear it "all year long" - "day & night"
I LOVE the peerless scent...
I just bought Terre D'Hermès Pure Parfume and I love it.
I do not like the sharp citrus notes in EDT, but I love the Pure Pafume version.
Living in hot & humid tropical country, its longevity is insane, I can still smell it after 8 - 10 hours.
This is truely a masterpiece.
really enjoy this fragrance, i always get a compliment from someone different everytime.and not age specific. it is unique for the most part, maybe people can pull a rabbit out of a hat and say it smells like this, but not most people.i like not smelling like others. great job Mr. Ellena...i love the masculine hit you give to me with this fragrance...gives me pride to wear this..there are so many wonderful fragrances out there..and they pop up everyday and you get tired of what you have been wearing , i know i do...but this one i know i can always bring back the magic..my compliments sir, you have another winner.i have layered it with the terre d hermes edt..so you get the projection of the edt and soul of the parfum..wow...good stuff...
perfect without comparção with nothing on the market for quality and combination of their notes!!!!
PERFECTION!!!! This is such a tender and enveloping smell
As far as age limits are concerned--I'm young (under 25), and I rock this. I don't care how mature any fragrance smells. If I like it, I buy it, I rock it, and I pull it off--simple as that.
I first tried Terre d’Hermès in the EDT concentration and it didn’t appeal to me. It seemed flat and its oiliness seemed somehow petrochemical. Well today I tried the parfum and I see it very differently. It is smooth and balanced where the EDT was actually a bit nauseating. (I did also try the EDT again today and my assessment of it hasn’t changed.) TdH has the only grapefruit note in perfumery I’ve ever liked. In tying it to bergamot and a vegetal quality, the sulfur is gone and the rich piquancy remains. What also remains is an aromatically sweet, metallic stone-like scent.
TdH is linear, but has a single, wide accord that seems to surround you. It is radiant like many other contemporary linear masculines (a heavy hand with the Iso-E Super), but it seems to encompass you rather than emanate from you. The parfum is direct, yet soft-spoken, well-balanced. There is nothing superfluous, yet there's no feeling of starkness.
TdH is not my style of perfumery, and I have no plan to buy it, but I would highly recommend it, and recognize the artistry, thoughtful consideration and likely enormous amount of editing and honing that went into its making.

I don't deny that this is a great fragrance which exudes class. But somehow, I prefer my other classy fragrances such as Vetiver Extraordinaire, Geranium PM, Green Irish Tweed.
Perhaps it will get more wearings as the weather cools down, but then I fear that my Fahrenheit will get more wears during those times when going to work.
As such I am willing to part with my 95% used 200ml bottle.
I own both, this one and the EDT and i can tell there's a difference between the two, the EDP is woodier and darker while the EDT is a bit more fresh. On my skin i notice the citrus (top notes) last for a while, which is not the case in the EDT where the same citrus notes fade pretty quickly.
Overall feeling , one of the best mens fragrances in the market, i tend to wear the EDT during daytime and the EDP at night, especially in summer.
Longevity? + 8 hours on my skin in a hot and humid environment.
MAGNIFICENT.. Orange, Ppper, Vetiver.. Already a classic!
Well, I did it. I bought the 200ml bottle of this today, and why not? A Pure Parfum at that size for $205 is a steal! (Hermes 24 Fouberg in Pure Parfum strength is $130 for 25ml and Hermes Caleche Pure Perfume costs $230 for 15ml.)
This I believe wears a bit closer to the skin than the EDT but the top notes of citrus last longer. Where the EDT slowly melts the citrus giving way to pepper and ending with a delicious cedary aroma, the Pure Parfum for me keeps more of the citrus through and through and has a deeper, richer aroma of benzoin mixed with wood and citrus. For me the Parfum does not have the same earth or flint smell, or at least not nearly as prominent. This Parfum seems to be a bit more linear in its progression and closer to the skin.
First impressions of these two versions of Terre d'Hermes are that they are very close to the same smell. And indeed the fragrances are at first impression are the same and obviously both Terre d'Hermes. But after wearing both they act differently in their progression.
I love both, I have both and I wear both. Both are long lasting. I give the nod of approval to both! I do tend to wear the EDT on a daily basis and the Parfum for more special occasions. I get the feeling the the quality of ingredients in the Parfum is greater but both are high quality.
If I had to suggest one I would ask if you want a fragrance that changes more (EDT) or is more linear (Parfum), has more silage (EDT) or wears just a tiny bit closer to the skin (Parfum). Either can be worn for any occasion at any time of the year. Probably not for kids but I would say college age and up. Just don't put this on to mow the lawn, it's too good for that. Both are brilliant and MODERN MASTERPIECES!
Jean-Claude Ellena has created two fragrances that initially seem similar or even the same but are actually quite different.
Bravo.
Well I stumped up the cash for this Parfum and what a gem I have. It was a competition between:
Terre De Herme EDP Parfum
Dior Dior Intense edp
Prada Amber EDP
L'instant Gueralin EDP
It destroyed the competition, this is a thunderblast of power and scent, it has the aurora of fresh ginger sizzling all day, its fiery, a red head would love this for sure, it ouzes class and best of all it was still on me, smelling delicious, when I came from from a hot, smoggy day in London
Yes it is for a mature man, but the citrus fire in it brings it closer to youth, much more than YSL Opium ever did..
Pay the money, it is worth it. Remarkable
For me, beats the EDT version. More woodlike, more intense in the drydown, and the oak moss definitly turn into a Chypre version, more elegante and more smoky! Loved it!!
Musky, Woody and Powerful
It suits Suits...City, Merchant Bankers, Very successful business men, high flyers, wealthy, mature, London, New York and so on...
Do not stick on a shirt and tie and think you can pull this of unless you fit the above
EDP expensive but if you are the above ilk, it will be chicken feed in price
Lasts 8 hours
Quality
A brilliant EdP. Can't add too much to what has been said about this. I was told it lasted a very long time on my but after a couple of hours I could not smell it. Maybe I was getting used to the smell on me and could not tell, but was told it was still there. Love the beginning citrus notes and how the smell develops. Need to try the EdT too. If they are so similar I will probably go for the EdT for a purchase.
So this EdP is what I would prefer, it seems to last longer and have more of the citrus smell I like so much. Is it worth the difference in price? Not sure. I may have to have both using the EdT most of the time and saving the somewhat more intense and apparently longer lasting EdP for more special occasions...or to layer. Either one, both are favorites and in a class of their own. My signature scent, or one of them is!
UPDATE: I have purchased and wear the EDT as my signature. And I am going to buy the EDP too. So similar but I really like the depth of the parfum. Also like the slightly different changes the EDT goes through. So, I have found that I like this scent so much that I need both versions. What should you do? If cost is a factor, get the EDT, if you want something deeper and more intense, get the EDP because it is just slightly more brilliant. If you are like me and adore this fragrance, just get both.
- A more deep and dense version of the original. The edt has fresher top-notes. Sillage and longevity are the same on both versions. Another masterpiece from the master Ellena. Irresistible!
I love the EdT...ON OTHERS, or rather, how it fills the air! I love the juxtaposition of its light citrus notes against its earthy and woody notes. I have owned a bottle, but given it away on a trade.
I bought the parfum because, well, it's a PARFUM! Not all too common in perfume strength for men. The only other maker I can think of would be Clive Christian.
As for this scent, it is Terre d'Hermes to the strength of three. It is no longer airy, but a deep, earthy, woody, and smoky concoction. It is powerful, dark, and sophisticated, and its citrus notes lends a carefree elegance.
I like cedar notes, but I don't like it at all when it takes over the rest of the fragrance, which is the case with many scents created for men lately. So much, that it almost smells like sharp body odor instead of cedar. And I easily tire of it when smelling it on skin to the point I want to immediately wash it off.
Modern creations in parfum form, to me, no longer conjures preciousness and its majesty compared to parfums of old. Since the raw materials are mostly synthetic these days, you no longer revel at its wondrous beauty to create something so precious. For example the story of how an ounce of Joy perfume is created with 10,000 bulgarian roses. One can only say WOW to that.
With Hermes, it is still luxury. It is still pricey to own a bottle of the Parfum. I celebrate the making of a parfum for men among the Eau de Toilettes.
For those who have a love-hate relationship with cedar like I do, I do not recommend wearing the parfum on days when it is too warm, and the air too thick because Terre d'Hermes will catch the back of your throat, at least that's what it does with me on warm days. It actually smells like burning treated wood.
I think the EdT is much more versatile and practical and suggest people buy the EdT first. Reserve yourself the the parfum if you want to wear it on occasions when you crave its quiet power and sophistication.
Well what I can say about this, it is a masterpiece.
So sexy, warm and masculine.
Not listed here but I surely get vetiver note also.
Dry down is very woody, earthy, smoky and warm. Gr8 sillage and longevity.
For me it is similar to the original in a complexer and stronger way.
If u r a real-man go and get it asap, don't hesitate even for a second.
I agree it´s more complex than the EDT, but I tend to like the EDT better, especially because it's brighter. I have to admit the first notes can be kind of annoying.
In spite of all that, it is a masterpiece. I own both Pure Parfum and the EDT version and I am pretty happy about them.
Terre D'Hermés parfum version is a great scent. The opening is very complex: the scent starts with top notes of grapefruit but more "vegetal" and acrid than EDT along with a flavour of wet earth after a rainstorm, with all the scents of moss and grass soaked in water, with deep wet woods under a sky still plumbeous and the air still full of moistur. Unlike EDT version, which is an earth more solar, with herbaceous notes intermediate less acres and with a hint of pepper more pronunced.
In this parfum version everything evolves more slowly: in the middle/hearts notes very slowly emerge a cedar and a benzoin more saturated (than the EDT version), with great mineral and deep flint notes merged with a herbaceous component always present in the background and a distant hint of pepper. Slowly, the scent becomes warmer, an earth lit by a warm sun after the rain.
After 5 to 6 hours is still a sense of benzoin and cedar. And just benzoin, vetiver, delicate oak moss and deep woody notes makes the base notes.
However the two versions (EDT e parfume) are very similar and both converge to a final fragrance of earth and beautiful vetiver, benzoin and cedar notes.
In conclusion, this parfum version is an earth "wet" and warm, denser, a scent more woody, slower in the evolution, more contrasted than the excellent EDT and, in the final notes, also more elegant thanks to oak moss.
Great scent.
Vincenzo F.
Notes:
Top: orange, shiso, grapefruit
Heart: flint, mineral notes, geranium leaves
Base: woody notes, oak Moss, vetiver, benzoin
Try Red Vetiver from Montale.
Similar but more peppery than Terre D'Hermes.
Both are great blends.
OK So after having my few days of wearing it, I do enjoy it a lot as it has a very deep and woody smell to it. Extremely dry and not sweet and not musky. Pure woods. I cannot detect a lick of the citrus though, perhaps my nose has been spoiled by all the other synthetic citrus's I'm so used to smelling. I have a hard time not spraying this because this keeps me feeling very refined and elegant. I've been using it to work and have received compliments on it.
I must say that after half the day goes by, I can't really detect it as much, but I do believe it is still there, just not on my knowledge. It's going to be strange spraying on some.....say 212 after wearing this. I will feel so cheap...lol. Not knocking 212, I love that fraggo but perhaps my senses have changed now that I am almost 30. I like dryer and nore woody scents.
If anyone knows any fragances along the lines of this one, please let me in on it. I'm glad I discovered this one. It definately is unique.
OK, so I just got this in yesterday and never beore have I ever aticipated a cologne as much as this. Anyhow, I opened it up and didn't even smell the cap. I just sprayed it in my tiny truck and let the fumes surpise me while I kept my fingers crossed. LOL...what was my initial reaction? HAMSTER CAGE!! Yup you know the pet shop smell. Luckily it smells good and I enjoy this type of smell and also I havent tried it on my skin. When I do, I'll let you know my impression then as well. Very different is definatley why this fragrance probably holds its uniqueness.
not big different between this and original one , its just a Masterpiece .
(they removed some notes and added other)
if you enjoy the edt, so this one will never turn you down , almost guaranty .
This will always get you compliments, thats for sure without a doubt, you cant go wrong with this cologne. A MUST HAVE FOR ANY MAN to add to his collections or just make it your one piece collection
Its simply irresistible.
I have other fragrances but i use more of Terre D'Hermes
love it
"Terre d'Hermes" is my first perfume. Since I'm a man I was very sceptical but when I tried out the perfume version I fell in love immediately. Before this one I tried out the Eau de toilette version and for me then it wasn't very hard to make a decision which one I should buy since the perfume is much more intensive than the Edt spray and I love strong scents...
The perfume version of "Terre d'Hermes" is dominated by the citrus scents and has a herbal-spicy basis which remains on your skin for a long time. I think it's more suitable for adult men 30+. When thinking of an event which fits best for this fragrance I would have to mention any classy sports which involve nature like sailing for example. I relate the colors yellow, orange, green, brown, white and beige to this perfume.
It has something of fresh cut grass after a mild summer rain. Very classy and sophisticated, for leisure time.
I have the original edt hermes..but parfum probably the best one and last alot longer..they dont make alot of parfum for men..but this is incredibly on high projection..but its expensive..ill buy this in near future..for now ill enjoy the EDT type...One of my favorite fragrance of Hermes..Very nice, refreshing scent...
Terre d’Hermès Pure Perfume, a new density of
the classic Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette, is a
creation that carves out a new path in the
universe of men’s fragrances and offers an
elegantly masculine scent.
One of the best fragrances ever for men
I just got this for my dad for his 50th bday. I was looking for something really special seeing as how 50 is a big bday. Plus he just can home from a yr in Kuwait. When I saw it at Nordstrom and took one whiff of this masterpiece, I knew I had found the one. Its perfection in a bottle. And the price is wonderful for an Hermes fragrance and a pure parfum. Me and my dad have always been a fan of Hermes and the original Terre d'Hermes and when I found out they had created a pure parfum version of it, I knew I had to get it for my dad. He loves it. I couldnt be more happy with it. Amazing work Hermes!! BRAVO!!
As an incurable fan of Terre d' I can't wait to try this one. Also because the pure perfume formulation is such a rarity amongst men fragrances.
