Ilaya is an oriental velvety fragrance, an exploration of traditional aromas, a grandeur that always came from South and East. A mixture of incense, luxurious Somalia myrrh among them, is at the base, which makes a contrast to the spicy freshness of the top: bunch of spices, ginger and cardamom. In between wood, resins and spices, tender and passionate flowers flourish like in a hot desert: jasmine and ylang-ylang. The perfume was created by Jerome Epinette in 2007. Serge Mansau is a designer of this “simple” African bottle.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see Isabel Derroisne line in the database - once again, bravo, Fragrantica!

I had a tester of this fragrance, just some weeks ago. It opens quite sharp, sort of fresh and spicy-sweet - really amazing combination of ginger, cardamon and jasmine. I like very much cardamon in perfumes. The middle and the drydown were not the same pleasant for me - maybe the combination of jasmine and ylang ylang was too sweet for my taste. I didn't smell incense (now I see it listed in the notes), but I have noticed a wave of the slightest coffee aroma in the base, which made the final accord invigorating, like a cup of aromatic hot sweet coffee. Quite unusual - warm, deep, rich, sweet-spicy fragrance.
