When I first tested Iris de Nuit, I remembered it in a completely different way: soft, cosy, sweet, flowery. Now when I have it on my skin again, I wonder where that impression came from.
Iris de Nuit is actually quite a green fragrance that sometimes feel like a vegetable garden. There is iris, but there is also a lot of carrot and a lot of angelica, there seems to be a note of earthiness, something like wet ground. And there is something... unsettling about it. Something strange. It is creamy and powdery, but also fresh at the same time.
The silage and longevity are quite good as well, so all in all, I am rather pleased with it, although it ended up being not my cup of tea.
A very nice Iris, a little bit too masculine I think. The violette is so nice also. I am little bit too picky whet it comes to violettes but this one I like the most by far. Heeley has a really nice fragrances, I think this is one very succesfull niche brand! Iris de Nuit is longlasting with middle sillage and masculine character.
yes it's the powder of iris with a lot of violet and a really nice interplay with the other notes that keep appearing in the scent and preventing this from being an overly light single note floral with no depth...green is there but love how the orris , cedar and amber bring it down a little giving a hint of incense...lovely and quite elegant. I picture lush ancient gardens lit by candlelight at dusk...
For me, this one starts off strong right out of the vial with a powerful blast of a violet/orris root note that for some reason reminds me of my well-worn black leather gloves. After a short while I can start to smell something a bit more plant-like, possibly the angelica and carrot seeds that are listed in the notes, but still dominated by the violet. I did not at any time experience a low point in the scent as others who wrote reviews here have done. The scent has good sillage, so that I’m surrounded by a powdery violet cloud, and it’s long-lasting, especially on clothing, where it is as strong the next morning as it was the day before. To me this scent is all about violet. Iris flowers have a bit of a violet-like scent, but are softer and warmer, with a watery sensual quality. I think this was the aim in making I de N, but the violet is more prominent, more powdery, and drier than I’d envision in a true iris scent. This is an assertive but dignified perfume that I can’t imagine being offensive to anyone, but that doesn’t really grab me at an emotional level.
I like this one a good amount. It hides at application - you almost wonder if you really did apply it since you can't smell anything for a good 5 seconds. You have to get close to your skin to smell it. Sweet yet spicy. But not candy sweet - just a natural sweetness that comes from the violet and carrot. It's a fragrance that gets better in the drydown - at least on me.
I don't find longevity to be too bad. It's almost 12 hours later and I still smell a hint of the fragrance on my skin and I applied it very lightly. So regular application might just do the trick for all day wear. It's subtle and shy and oh so classy.
Lovely Green Perfection.
This opens with Angelica, similar to Guerlain's Angelique Noir which I recently sampled. But Guerlain's version was quite heavy and sharp to me, whereas this one is light, almost too light, as it seems to disappear for a while then come back to hang out.
But this is the type of green opening I look for, so my first impression was very positive.
This has carrot in it, which I recently sniffed in pure oil form at Wholefoods. Carrot is sweet, actually, and quite a bit earthy. It's a note that I like, where as violet and iris (orris root) are notes that I love.
When the middle act begins I'm all a flutter with giddiness. Because of the carrot this sweetens up a bit, which may appeal to the floral/fruity fans, but doesn't become so sweet that a chypre fan like me would want to wash off.
This is one I like well enough to hold onto my sample so I can return to it. The flag I've raised is longevity, which is why I want to try it on various days to get a better feel. Love it.
