Intensive and sensible, modern, and comfortably warm, masculine and gentle... Le Male is magnetically attractive fragrance which seduces with its uniqueness; it is built on contrasts: traditional and bold, fresh and mild, strong and sensual, in one word: absolutely irresistible for women. Fresh mint is a symbol of strength; the tradition is represented by lavender; vanilla gives warmth and tenderness. The top notes are composed of mint, lavender and bergamot. The heart is composed of cinnamon, cumin, and orange blossom. The base contains vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and cedarwood. It was created in 1995 by Francis Kurkdjian.

Hola a todos los FraganticaFans Hispanos! :)

Familias aromaticas: Herbal/ Dulce

Mi Calificacion del Perfume: 9.5

People who say that Le Male is note 8/10 in projection and longevity surely tested a false scent.

A woman's perspective is that Le Male is risky. Your chemistry has to be just right, as other reviewers have implied. To my nose, what presents a potential problem has something to do with the lavendar, bergamot, caraway and mint notes clashing with the cardamom. I can't quite figure out which, but one of them should probably go.
Kudos to the men for whom it creates magic, and know you are special.

Okay fragrance. It's a fragrance that only certain people would wear for special occasions. It's not a scent for me though. I do see others guys wearing this scent. It's somewhat "Metro" to me, or unisex type of scent. Can't complain when many women like it.

The only reason i dont buy this fragrance anymore its because everybody wears it, even though i do understand why. Such a beautiful scent!!! I did enjoy it though when it first came out. That was the time for it. Before all the crazy hype. 9/10.

I don't feel this scent at all. It does last long but I do not like it one bit. It reminds me of a lighter version of Versace Dreamer which intensely dislike too. This is not for me. Most people like it but I don't and that does not make it a bad scent.

The bottle says that it's an edt!!!well,to be quite honest it can compete with any edp in the market.I am surprised by its tenacity. It goes on and on.Is it unique??A big NO,but it is a pleasant smelling scent and should be worn sparingly because it is a beast. Some scents behave in a very shy manner, hiding in the background and making its presence felt now and then. Some scents behave like a naughty guy trying to grab attention.they are very extrovert and in this context Le Male is naughty and extrovert. It demands attention. It was made solely for the purpose of attracting the ladies coz generally ladies like sweet scents and Le Male successfully does it.The scent is not complicated and relies on simplicity with a prominent mint note and vanilla all the way.You can detect spices but it is in the background behaving like a shy child fearing the presence of vanilla because the vanilla overpowers everyone.
Do I like it...Yes and no because my mind says there are many scents similar to this one but my heart says that no one can beat the tenacity and attractiveness associated with this scent.
People will always ask what are you wearing but its popularity has been diluted by many cheap similar smelling scents, none the less it is a survivor and it has carved the way for other sweet smelling scents.
Lastly, the best occasion to wear this is when you are in a casual atmosphere surrounded by people because it grabs attention so beware if you wear it in the office.
Final rating-6/10 because of its tenacity and pleasant smelling scent. Not unique but good.It just made the cut from being average.

Another ho hum for me, this one - as usual, genius bottle design - maybe because an ex wore this but even then, it never truly floated my boat. It's warm and rather endearing in that sense but the dry down adds nothing special. It's the go to for men who want to pull in my experience, a bit like Jazz was in the 80s.

Well done, gorgeous to get a passing whiff off but please, please, let it keep moving!

There's a reason Le Male has the status that it does. This is mature and very captivating--it has a mysterious sex appeal. Awesome union of lavender, cardamom and mint, rounded with a cast of vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, and sandalwood. A classic indeed, and in my opinion, a much better classic than colognes like Acqua di Gio or CK Eternity. Much more masculine.

Opens with lavender, mint and vanilla and dries down to a sweeter, woodier accord. One to two sprays is good enough, it can get overpowering if overdone; you don't want to be one of /those/ guys.

Longevity is pretty good and does project. Every time I go to the store I head for this one just to get that whiff. The bottle is killer marketing, leave it to JPG to make a bottle like that. There are a few fragrances like it that have come both before and after it but they never quite compare. The only true successor to Le Male is 1 Million by Paco Robanne.

I have loved Le Male since it came out. If I could wear it I would but it doesn't suit my chemistry. My husband has it and it smells gorgeous on him, vanilla, lavender, mint, cinnamon and the rest. After awhile it's a soft deep smell, he smells soooo gooood.

I can't understand it...I have read reviews that says...I can't wear it because so many others doo...well if that is the case we can't wear any perfume at all.
Wear it if you like it, and after all it doesn't smell exactly the same on everyone...

This is my opinion.

This stuff is so horrible it kills all the oxygen in a room cant breathe when someone use this.

This scent is iconic in my opinion. I remember when it first got my attention in 1999 when I found it absolutely intoxicating. It's very unique and very well constructed but it's too darn popular for me to keep on hand. If this were more of a niche market scent I would still be wearing it. Longevity is great, scent is out of this world, trouble is everyone knows. If you haven't been down this road you really should join the rest of he crowd, they clearly know a good thing when they smell one!

Le Male for me is an absolute classic!
The opening of this fragrance is a fresh, clean and spicy blast that brings to mind that classic barbers shop image before drying down with a powdery vanilla note with a hint of mint.
The projection is excellent at around 5+ hours and the longevity is an animal clocking in at 12+ hours on my skin
I would recommend this fragrance to be worn in the autumn and winter as its a bit spicy for hot weather.
To put it simply this is a fantastic fragrance and the ladies absolutely love it.
This one will always be in my collection.

My boyfriend wears this cologne and it's always smelled good on him, I find I can't stop smelling him when he wears this lol I don't know why some feel this is too feminine to be a male scent, but I disagree. Granted it is on the sweeter side, but I feel this is a man's scent regardless. Yay, I get to see him tomorrow, and I know he'll be wearing this :)

I wanted to try it because I was told it could easily be unisex. Wow, I was shocked how sweet it was. I could barely smell the top notes of lavender and bergamot which disappear in minutes and you are left with very sweet vanilla sandalwood scent with just a hint of masculinity (I assume from cedarwood).
its definitely not a typical men’s cologne. I am sure some guys can get away with it, but I don’t think I would like it on the guy since I prefer more masculine, fresh or woodsy scents on men.
Incidentally, I had two women at work smell it and both thought it was women’s perfume. I also had my DH sniff my wrist and asked him if this smelled like men’s cologne. He gave me a puzzled look and said “not at all”. I told him it was Le Male and he said it was way too sweet for a guy to wear.
I guess it amounts to personal preference so try before you buy it. I would love to get myself a bottle and lasting power is very good on this one. One small spray on my hand lasted for at least 4 hours and my coworker said she could smell it as I walked by. So word of caution-this is not a scent you want to overspray because you will suffocate everyone around.

At first I didn't like this but grew to love it in my 20s. It served me well for a while. Now my mid-30s nose doesn't appreciate it anywhere near as much.
It is quite sweet, verges on too sweet and too powdery but settles and becomes a little more masculine. In my eyes this is NOT a classic and NOT the "lady-killer" others claim - many hate it. It seems both women and men either really like or really dislike this one.

As I get older and more into fragrances I am not using this very often and am less and less likely to reach for this ahead of other scents. It seems too young and too sweet now. Some of the other scents I had at that time have stood the test of time and stayed firm favourites but I'm not sure I'll ever finish my current bottle of Le Male.

If you like the smell it is quite good value - a bottle will last ages - you don't need to use much at all. Quite potent and if over-sprayed (any more than 2 SPRAYS MAXIMUM) it can be very cloying and unpleasant, verging on unbearable.

This is one of the best fragrances for longevity and projection I have found. With 2 sprays it is strong on my skin for 12+ hours and still detectable 20+ hours after application. Very strong projection early on for 6-8 hours and still projects quite strongly for 10-12 hours or more.

If you don't like strong, sweet or powdery scents, or lavender or vanilla then steer clear of this one. Otherwise it is worth a test - especially if you struggle to find something that lasts on your skin.

I think my days of using JPG Le Male are now pretty much over - it was nice while it lasted.

I have a love hate relationship with this cologne. It reminds me of an acquaintance who is no longer in my life from days when I partied hard until the sun rose - 1999. When I first smelled it back then I thought it was "heavenly".

To many Le Male may be too strong and overbearing, however it has one of the best scents, sillage and longevity I can possibly imagine in any men’s perfume. It is not no 15 on the USA top 100 best seller list for nothing and seems to have survived a solid 17 years on shelves here in South Africa.

If you enjoy fragrance in the Oriental Fougere genre, there is a good chance you may enjoy this can. However a test may also scare you with thoughts of, “Wow, too much in my face!”

I hate to compare, but personally, Caroline Herrera 212 Sexy is almost a clone of Le Male, but in an awesome, softer, citrus, more refined, modern way. So you can see the respect I have for Le Male. The scent itself is divine.

If the reviews on Fragrantica appeal to you, and you are toying with the idea of buying the turquoise man with the cut off arms in the silver can then go for it. But be cautioned; wear sparingly, as you may get mixed reactions at the office. I feel this is perfectly suited for a wild party or a night club.

In terms of LONGEVITY, this is right on top. In my never ending quest for a perfume with decent longevity I would buy it for this one reason. If you ever wanted to make a BIG perfume statement, Le Male is your stuff.

I don't like this fragrance at all!
Start with huge blast of synthetic vanilla and the worst note in the world of fragrances, LAVENDER!
I hate lavender and lavender based fragrances.
This fragrance give me cleaner vibe!
We have a glass cleaner in our house that smell exactly like this fragrance!
Unfortunately the lavender linger through the whole fragrance life on your skin and I can't stand it!
I bought this fragrance blind and that was a big mistake!
Great longevity but average projection on my skin.
Completely waste of money!

Oh my God...I find this fragrance absolutely DELICIOUS!!! It also has a very nice and appealing (and also sexy) dry down, so it is perfect for the clubs and dates, especially in the night. It's more of a winter smell, but it can also be worn in the summer, at night. The projection, sillage and longetivity are great on this one, even on my skin (where many other fragrances fade after a couple of hours). This gragrance is in my top 3 - after Armani Code and before 212 Sexy Men. 10/10

Seriously? This is the lady killer that everyone talks about? Maybe they meant it literally then...
Jesus Christ, this scent is the strangest thing I ever smelled. Sure it was pretty original at the time of its launch, but in a bad way. I mean, it's like they've thrown the most synthetic notes of vanilla and mint and mixed them together with other ultra synthetic herbaceous notes. A mess, really.
It has killer projection and killer sillage. The scent is killer too, if you know what I mean.
If this synthetic mess is a 'sexual appeal' to the ladies, then maybe that's a very good sign that I'm perhaps way too masculine to even be neutral about this one.

In a word, Le Male is repulsive.

Le Male, in 2004 when I first smelt it on an old mate, was the intoxicating smell of man. It wreaked of confidence and had me wishing I could smell that fantastic!
It's been described by my uncle as a 'gay smell', while my gay brother described it as a '40yo man' smell. Where's the line? I can see the connection on both sides, but I think of it as a more 'vintage for the youth' kind of smell, while it is also, without a doubt, a French smell.
I did find, when I owned it, that the syntheticity increases as production continues, as an evident profit bearing market pushes Le Male into the discounted shelves for the original target crowd to stock up on.
In any case, it's a great smell for men in general, and when applied subtly more often throughout the day, it does the exact justice it's known for.

I don't get when people say "everybody is wearing it, so this is bad, so I don't like it, bla bla bla...".
When a designer create a fragrance, he expects that fragrance become POPULAR and SELL.
I really don't care how many people are wearing it.
If you want something "exclusive", go to a very obscure niche brand.

Longevity, projection and silage is great. Smells very good and women love this smell...great clubbing fragrance.

The bad: if you do go out, expect someone else wearing this.

The good: with that scent with longevity and projection the price is great but then again that is also the reason why so many ppl wear this.

A fabulous creation for a fashion house that proved a formal education and background in fashion was not necessary to be accepted into the Parisian fashion elite. Jean Paul Gaultier endured a great deal of class chastisement on his ascent to fame in couture haut Paris for his tendency to lean heavily on shock value and marketing rather than substance. Gaultier worked his way up through a quick and voracious consumption of his influences, borrowing fantastically from a wide array of ideas and molding them into his own unique and profound vision that in its earliest days had a very timely and unique vision.
Le Male and the female equivalent that preceded it, Classique were personifications of his vision when Gaultier was still at the top of his game and showed initiative for creativity beyond simply supporting his cash cows with endless flankers lacking sincere desire to push any envelopes. The elements ultimately came together perfectly in Le Male, revitalizing the French fashion elite with a fresh dose of working-class ideas and new blood looking to democratize and expand the clientele base beyond just the higher income target audience.
Jean Paul Gaultier ultimately succeeded because it made clear a new direction in French fashion houses that had already been done in the USA and UK, targeting a broader base beyond the elite and upper middle-class, searching to bring in the middle and lower middle class, a market rarely given such attention in France before the 1990's.
Le Male is his one shining moment in the realm of masculine fragrances; owing a great deal to its packaging ingenuity. Heavily influenced by the commercial art of Andy Warhol, Gaultier chose to package his male torso in a tin can, a not so subtle tribute to Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup tin labels.
The juice itself is striking in its uniqueness at the time of release. Signing up Francis Kurkdijan was a stroke of brilliance and Kurkdijan did not let him down on either of his fist two groundbreaking releases for Gaultier; Classique et Le Male.
Le Male daringly attempts to balance vanilla, lavender, cinnamon, mint, amber and cardamom into a fragrance that doesn't smell overcrowded or overly ambitious and does it with a tremendous technical skill. Kurkdijan manages to find a striking balance throughout, never allowing the rather synthetic notes to come together as such, instead emitting a certain subdued loudness that is both daring and yet also somewhat reserved. The loudness and brashness of Le Male is more implied in the packaging than the juice, which is actually a powerhouse indebted greatly to the 1980's.
A blast of lavender, bergamot, cardamom, mint and artemisia kicks off Le Male and is actually quite subtle and well balanced. There is none of the shock and bravado implied by some of the reviewers. This is far more standard and technically balanced than most people would like to give it credit for.
Around the five minute mark the cinnamon starts to assert itself but is never overpowering. The orange blossom and caraway are both evident, but more to take a bit of the weight away from the strong natural tendencies of the cinnamon to dominate. Kurkdijan manages to find a tremendous balance, paving the way for the vanilla to find accord with cinnamon and lavender and dirtied up just enough by the cardamom and amber to give the impression of being somewhat natural despite the heavy synthetic implications of Le Male.
Masterfully constructed, a truly magnificent creation that is wonderful in fall, winter and spring and though not refined in the classic sense, has already achieved modern classic stature and has become rather timeless because of its well balanced nature and lack of floral pomp. This is neither overtly masculine nor feminine leaning, it achieves a wonderful universality so rarely accomplished in fragrance.
Longevity is outstanding, 10-12 hours is standard and 18 hours in colder weather is not unheard of. Projection is tremendous well into the seventh hour before things start to recede a bit, but Le Male manages to hang on to the skin better than most scents.
Becomes loud when the vanilla merges with the top and middle and this is what many object to, as the vanilla is certainly synthetic. Yet despite this it still manages to be very far from cloying in any respect.
If you are looking for a dirtier and more ambery version of this on a budget, I would suggest Cubano Gold by Victory International as an accompanying scent when you would prefer to best enjoy your Le Male in moderation, with a bit of variety but the same basic essence.
Overrated? Shockingly no. Despite its tremendous success, this is a wonderful commercial product that managed to find the perfect balance between packaging, marketing, quality and bravado.

I don't want to antagonize its admirers (as i am going to say a few negative things about it . . lol), so i'm going to try and make my review as brief as possible.

Le Male is TOO(extremely and odiously) sweet and synthetic for my taste. Its cloyingness is tormenting (in the same league as Joop! Homme)and its insane omnipresence bores me even more. This scent is not for me! I've tried liking it(i really have) but my persistence has yielded no positive outcome.

However, for those who might like this scent, let me say that both its Longevity and sillage are 10+/10 (which is why i used the word 'tormenting' to describe its cloyingness cos it just stays and stays). Don't ever buy this blind! You have been warned!

A lot of thumbs-downs headin my way i know (But it's just my honest opinion). No hard feelings i hope.

There was a time and countless places when this was the scent I wore. It was so complimented - dressed up or down. However, as my tastes have refined over the years, I find that JPG Le Male is not as amazing as I remember it to be. I have found the synthetic qualities and bombastic opening to be less desired. That doesn't mean I won't wear it. I will, but after years of discovering scents (and, yes, imitation is the best form of flattery), I find myself liking Jacomo de Jacomo Rouge for casual wear and TL Pour Lui by Ted Lapidus (created by Maurice Roucel) to be superior to Le Male in distinct ways. I still have a strong affinity and affection for this scent and always will. It is part of my life and my olfactory memories. I bought a bottle in Paris in fact just for the romantic notion of doing so. To this day, I still receive compliments and although so many people went through wearing it, this fragrance has become a modern classic (I graduated college in 1995). A lot of people recognize it, but that doesn't mean it is not a very good scent. Personally, it lifts my spirits and creates a sensual atmosphere. A bottle of sexy juice that has (and will) stand the test of time although there are alternatives that I love next to it and reach for more consistently. My lust for this scent is gone, but I still give it a solid 7+/10 and recognize its place in the history of male fragrance. Undeniably, it was a marquis scent of my early to late 20's.

This is the ultimate male fragrance. It is loved by all genders and ages. When I had it I got compliments from girls, boy and even... my mum.

If you buy this fragrance savour it and DO NOT over apply as you will regret it. I stuck to four sprays and found that to be ideal.

The smells will last a long time no matter where you spray it.

This would be ideal for a first date as it'll show you are sophisticated, take pride in your grooming and have excellent taste.

I cannot big this up enough!! GO BUY IT!!

the bottle...oh my kidney it is so sexy!
the scent?...well the last time i checked it think it could be a girl magnet in a club or a night party.
the downside is that u might catch a cold actually, because dozen of guys in one place would probally wear it.

No joke buddy, this will add some extra beauty and sensuality to u; and man oh man...if u meet a girl who never got that scent before, that's it... 50% of the work is done!!!...lool

I remember as kid in junior high I loved Jovan Sex Appeal and wore it proudly. I've come a long way since then but if something is truly worthy of having Sex Appeal on the label this is it. I've had women look at me like I was literally something good to eat lol. It leaves a wake behind that few can match, a pure come hither quality that demands immediate attention. Simply marvelous!

This is a cinnamon/vanilla cookie with some fresh mint added.
It is a popular scent. Many guys wears it. And many females loves it. I do see why, even though I think it is a bit overrated.
This is strong and potent stuff, that will last all day/night.
The scent goes pretty well with cigarette smoke or coffee. That will make it smell like a bastogne cookie.

Such a lovely scent! I really like it and my husband will use it for sure:D It´s not like many masculine scents, it´s little bit strange, I smell caraway and some mint. It´´s for man who wants to smell not like every man on the street. Highly recommended!

Top notes of mint, mandarin orange, and lavender followed by what strikes me as a "clean linen" middle. Once dry this one is only powdery vanilla. A nice combination, but it tends to disappear on me rather quickly leaving only the faintest of vanilla. Once the top notes fade, Le Male is unremarkable. Not the best match for my chemistry.

Do yourself a favor and spray Le Male on one hand and Rochas Man (or Body Kouros) on the other. In comparison, Le Male smells like synthetic burnt sugar.

You have the options of Body Kouros and Rochas Man for other gourmands. Not only are they cheaper, but they exceed the quality that Le Male lacks.

A lavender bomb for sure. I love it at around the 4 hour mark to the end of it's longevity, which is about 14-16 hours on my skin. So if you going on a date in the winter time, shower/shit/shave in the morning, apply Le Male above your twig 'n berries, your chest and one on the neck, and by 6pm when your date starts you should be smelling like vanilla candy. The women love licking my chest and neck as we're getting going...it's amazing stuff.

Le Male is a staple in the world of perfume because it was very new then and set a new trend in male fragrances. Lavender and vanillic amber was not common! I found it very new, both fresh and warm, sensual and interesting compared to classic menscent.
JPG had a good intuition but he pushed too much on gaytype ads, the kind with muscle pumped sailors, quite boring! I bet that at that moment in time gay men were more conscious about fashion and JPG and I always thought that gay men are much more adventuros and they dare to try novelties, not caring about what could be considered too strange or feminine in the crowd. That's a plus. Le Male was not bad as feminine scent either. It was new, strong and women liked it a lot on their men! Anyway it then became so popular and so widespread and very common. Straight men were not scared anymore, instead they began to wear it constantly. I could smell it everywhere. Not a good thing. One of my ex only wore this one and it actually fitted his sexy attitude very well :-)
Now I think it is surpassed and a bit boring, because you can always tell when a man were Le Male or probably of its copycats. Not exciting anymore, no mistery.
All in all Le Male is not an elegant scent for gentlemen. Nothing to do with old evergreen Guerlains or Dior or even a good Acqua di Parma cologne.
It stays as a once-it-was-different scent, still pleasant somehow, but nothing spectacular.
Maybe it was never spectacular in itself. It smells very synthetical now and the neverending story of flankers destroyed its reputation.
Good as an example of revolutionary concept of men fragrance in a supertacky bottle. I wouldn't like to have it around now.

I love this. I was going to get it for my boyfriend for Christmas, but I think perhaps it is just TOO popular and too much of an obvious choice.

I can see why it's so popular though.

I also suspect my boyfriend would find the bottle "gay." *rolls eyes*

I sprayed some on my wrist today. At first, it was like lemon, and I got a strong smell of cedarwood. Now that it has settled it's lovely and soapy, with something that reminds me of burnt rubber. Sounds weird, but smells great.

Its 1995-I rushed to the mens fragrance counter to sample this blue wonder. Yes, it is clean, fresh and sweet. It summed up the decade and beyond for mens launches. Yes, it defined a generation. No, I never bought a bottle. It was too expensive and there was so much more going on at the time that I had to pass it up.

Totally clean...

It's opening with lavander and mint. Other top notes are less obvious but adds a little bit sweetish.

Heart notes cinnamon and orange blossom, does not take too long time. Top and middle notes feels clean.

After a period of time, vanilla replaces the heart notes. It's so natural and delicious. Of course, Le Male is a full vanilla perfume. Also can be felt of woody notes in the background.

The only bad side, it's very popular. It will not be special for you...

This is one of the most distinct fragrances I've ever had the pleasure of smelling. There's nothing like it in my book. On the right man this can smell very good. At first, to me this smells like mouthwash straight from the bottle. But then it becomes creamy, musky, and softly spicy. The cardamom and lavender connect all the notes, as I can detect them from beginning to end. Towards the end, the cedar and a sharp citrusy smell become apparent, but they are both tamed by the creaminess of the tonka bean. A creative masterpiece indeed. I think it smells the same on every person I've met that has worn it. I find this one of the best perfumes, male or female, that delivers from start to finish. The mint sort of acts like a "signal", saying here comes "Le Male".

Do I like it, yes, would I get weak in the knees for a guy that wears this? No. Would your average man feel comfortable wearing this? I got it as a gift to a friend of mine and he gave it to his sister. He said thank you but found it "pansy". Then gave a look that said a thousand words. Yeah, most likely not. To me this smells metrosexual on a guy (which motivated me to get it for that particular man). High maintenance and somehow too high fashion for your average man. I don't mind a stylish man that takes care of himself, but this is a bit out there for most. This what I get from this, but I'm not by any means bashing it.

When I first smelled this fragrance I liked the smell. It was very different and new. Then EVERYOINE started wearing it and I grew tired of it. Now all i saw was highschool kids wearing it and I am close to my 30's so I didnt care for it as much anymore and it was getting played out and I always tend to seek the unusual, different and hignend fragrances. I once was hanging out with friends and one of their friends being an older guy smelled very nice and I asked him what is that your wearing? He told me JPG and anymore I was taken a back. It smelled good on him and thought twice about knocking it down completely. And for that guy saying that he hates it, he is entitles to his opinion but doesnt have to be a baby about dt and replying to everyone who defends the cologne. If he so hates the bulge and bottles design, maybe he should question his man hood or sexuality. I bet gays don't make a big deal of the bottle being a mans body. The colognes scent and the purpose of the art direction of the bottle is supposed to catch attention,d represent masculinity and its ability to seduce women. Vanilla mixing to well with the other notes possibly being responsible. I believe that a guy with some problem of anything male erotica or makes a big deal about it is a guy who is in the closet trying to prove he is opposed of gays with machismo.

Please my friends, DON'T FEED THE TROLL!. Le Male maybe isn't in the same "classy or sofisticated" category as Creed or Lutens or Tom Ford fragrances, but hey!, it works perfectly. That "cheap" label that a lot of reviewers talk about maybe comes because a lot of fragrance brands try to copy the same structure of this scent, waiting to get the same selling rankings. So anyone you ask about the opinion on Le Male maybe smelled a lot of knock-offs (cuba gold, perry ellis 360 white, and so on) so now they are saturated with those "lavender-vanilla" combos. But Le Male always will be the first, the groundbreaking, the classic. Once I heard the quote "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery".

@himank09 I respect your opinion, but i tend to disagree with one thing you have said. Le male IS sophisticated and full of class. Its less versatile so it kinda tells you it has class. It projects and lasts longer then burberry london. Sure le male is mostly vanilla, but hey, if this cologne is one of the most complimented in the world, i wouldn't be complaining right? and about the bottle. You haven't seen anything like it. It chisels out the male bottle. What would you prefer? a rectangular bottle with a picture of a mans chest? i wouldn't think so.

First of all my humble apologies to all of the heck lot of le male lovers out there

now after reading all the reviews and watching all the videos on youtube,i was forced to blindbuy this fragrance.I came home delighted with the long awaited purchase, opened it,sprayed it and then "what the...

..."sorry for that, but that was exactly what happened...
there is a very cheap substandard shampoo in our country,,which some circumstances led me to use for a several times, and this cologne reminds of that, only the shampoo missed the vanilla...i don't hate it because it's smell kinda resembles that of the cheap shampoo but because it does smell disguting..

my description:
a cheap smelling, powdery, synthetic and a little feminine kind of a fragrance....

SYNTHETIC is the word to describe this fragrance

no doubt this thing's longevity and projection is inspiring, but whats the use of it if it smells so bad

7/10 despite all the contradiction above this good rating is just because of great projection and longevity

I really like this - on myself.

This is the only men's cologne that I as a woman have ever felt comfortable wearing. I had an intense lavender period last year, and this is one of the best lavender perfumes out there.

That being said, I do like it on some men too. It is, however, very sweet and can be a bit cloying.

I was leaving Rome the same day this was out, so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived in Athens this perfume was a complete stranger so I can safely say I was the first Greek to actually wear it in Greece (not that this makes me any prouder but you'll see my point)
The same night I found myself (can't remember how) at the offices of a very big magazine of the time, chatting with the director, editors e.t.c. about contemporary events and the future of the magazine. Actually, I was there with a friend.
The impact this perfume created that night was beyond words! For the next days, wherever I was, I had people talking to me about my perfume. It was THAT good (and still is) and THAT original!
I believe M. Kurkdjian has created a masterpiece and that JPGaultier really owes this man MORE than a lot!
Anyway, nowadays it is so popular that it doesn't make much sense to wear it. It is certain someone else next to you will wear it anyway!
Lastly, I can't imagine how many noses must have felt (only) a little bit jealous of this young man's creation.

Le Male is the great conundrum - you buy it because you tried a sample/tester and loved the mint/lavender powdered scent, then you bring it home and use up most of the bottle before you finally realize that half the people you pass on the street smell exactly like you.

JPG tries, year after year, to create variants on the same thing, but you just can't beat the original. Synthetic? Yes, but it's so out there that it still catches the attention of others, regardless of its overuse.

I didn't even consider wearing this until I was in my early 20's. If you're in high school, I wouldn't suggest wearing this unless you feel you're confident enough to pull it off. It screams "mature and complicated". You WILL be the center of attention when you wear this - the sillage and longevity is massive, no matter what skin its applied to.

Le Male is the type of the cologne that you would buy just to say you have it - use it as a backup in the fall and winter for variety, but never rely on it as a signature scent (and never apply it liberally - my boss once commented that I smelled like I "bathed in a tub of mint soap"). It's ridiculously oversaturated in today's culture, and I can't see anyone pulling this off in a highly-populated urban setting.

"Le Male" de Jean Paul Gaultier is really common nowadays.
In fact, chances are that, like me, when you will first smell it, the fragrance wouldn't be a total stranger to you, even if you're not a fragrance fanatic.

Aside from that, "Le Male" is a very gentle fragrance.
Its main idea is to combine the freshness of lavander and minth with the sweetness of vanilla.

In the end what you have is a really soft and attracting scent.
Not masculine nor imposing enough to be worn by businessmen and/or 40+ men, but for everything else, "Le Male" de Jean Paul Gaultier is a recommandation for winter time.

Masterpiece !
This one is such a great fragrance : it opened the path to soft male fragrances, way more pleasant than sharp fougeres or loud woody ones.
And "Le Mâle" is and will always remain such beautiful, uncommon creation.

The only downside is that, like all very popular fragrances, a lot of people wear it, most of the time in a wrong way, giving a bad image to the perfume .... :-/

Once, a long time ago, I found myself in a men's restroom. I can't remember why. Maybe out of curiosity? Anyhow, I remember the peculiar and overwhelming minty smell of the deodorizing "cake" in the bottom of the urinal. To me, this fragrance smells just like that: scented urinal cake. Even my fiance agreed with me!

Obviously, though, neither of us have the chemistry to pull this scent off, so I am positive that it smells different (and much better) on the right person!

do not understand how much people talk about this perfume is very striking in the beginning ... (more precisely in the first 30 minutes) is an intoxicating smell as well, because the notes of mint, but what you have then is a perfume with an average projection and excellent fixation (about 8, maybe 9 hours on my skin) getting very close to the skin with a smell very good.

Le Male is the King of the comments made by everyone who meets who is using it.
Everyone loves this scent, from children to the elderly, men or women.
At the level of its development is perfect.
It may be a little criticism because many people use this perfume, but this comment is unfair and selfish, because everyone has the right to use, and if I like the perfume I can not forbid other people like it or not buy it.

Everything is perfect in this perfume, since the creator, the brand, the ads.

I really love this scent so much, but that's the problem, everyone seems to love it, if you want to feel unique you can't wear this one, everyone knows you're wearing JPG Le Male.

Perfume for me needs to bring out a special atmosphere, i like it to be a little sinister, dark and heavy, and this one sure is, but i won't wear it anymore, it got too commercial, it's a personal thing, cause there's really nothing wrong with the scent.

First of all no hard feelings and negativity for the lovers of this high profile perfume. Actually this is one of the perfumes which i don't like at all, it doesn't necessarily mean that those who love it are on the wrong side but simply it is perhaps just not for me and not of my taste. Because there always remain a question of personal choice and preference and one cannot blame those who use it. Anyhow, coming towards the fragrance it is similar to joop homme and CH 212 sexy man, but yes Le male is the pioneer among them. The best part is its incredible projection and longevity. The bad things: it is too much sweet and soft just like a baby powder or a smell of female cosmetics. It can relatively smell good on females as compare to men.
Bottle is phenomenal and a hallmark of JPG
I give it 7 out of 10 for its unbelievable popularity.

I really adore this scent, as my boyfriend of 6 years was wearing this when we met, and still uses it regularly :-)
That said, he doesn't douse himself in it, he just uses a spray or two- too much is too much!!!
It really reminds me of his best qualities-sensual, strong, calm, relaxed, a little sweet but not overly brash or macho. I must say i do love a musky vanilla scent and this hits all the right notes on my man :-)
I have to agree with others in that this could be considered a unisex fragrance, but I personally would not go so far as to wear it myself!!!

If I was a guy, I would take a bath in this thing. It's masculin, guys of all ages can wear this. If I smell it, I get goose bumps, but in a very good way.

It's a 'panty dropper'. Believe me men, buy this!

Do you remember the scent that started it all?

For me it was Le Male. When I was 14 my older brother came home smelling of something wonderful, something new, and something so outside of what I had ever experienced... incomprehensible to my nose.

Le Male was his new prized possession and I wasn’t allowed to touch! However, one night, after he had left the house, I opened his cabinet and reached for the forbidden bottle. I spent the next five minutes writhing around the floor, my eyes closed, one hand clutching the bottle and the other glued to my nose. So strong was my intoxication that I hadn’t noticed my brothers return. Normally my brother wasn’t shy to give me a taste of his boot, but the sight of me squirming around on the floor.... well I think it slightly unnerved him.

Now that I’m older I don’t have to sneak around smelling fragrances anymore (although, the staff at some department stores can make you behave that way). But every time a spray Le Male; that strange minty vanilla smell evokes memories of a time so different.

I'm female and I have to say I LOVE, LOVE this scent! I couldn't figure out what was so delicious about it initially, however, I discovered it's the vanilla undertones. I have samples that I use in the privacy of my home haha, because as I've been told, I smell too much like a man to wear in public! which is really a shame. It smells heavenly! Unfortunately JPG doesn't have an equivalent scent for women. On a man??? Oh yum!! Would definitely put some naughty thoughts in my head if I met a man wearing this! :)

With Le Male you get a lot of lavender, gallons of vanilla, tons of spices, and a heeping B-52-sized load of powder, and all of it pummels your senses for the first ninety minutes of wear. Eventually the top subsides, the heart melds into the dry base, and the whole thing becomes more of an "aura" scent, the sort that fills the room but then drops into the background. Personally I hate this fragrance, although I do remember when it came out and headlocked the '90s. There's no reason to revisit this unless you want to smell like one of those 27 - 35 year-olds who still hasn't gotten their stuff together and spends weekends night clubbing. I'm hard pressed to believe there's many teenagers who wear this nowadays - many other equally abysmal fragrances have replaced it, but it still has a powerful presence in certain settings. Much like Cool Water and Polo, Le Male is one of those masculine legends that will live on in infamy.

Fragrance or myth? The answer: this is a poetry in a bottle. When I smelled at the first time,I fell in love with the aroma.I don´t know if this scent is the first gourmand launched in the market, but their singularity makes it a unique scent .
Projection and sillage are both fenomenals!
We have here a perfect marriage between vanilla, lavender and mint.
I do not care with your popularity, because Le Male is uniqueness!

very sweet. soft, clean, warm, and powdery lavender and vanilla, with a subtle touch of mint. on myself, the lavender, with a hint of cinnamon, lingers most.

it's something i would love to curl up with - as a woman, i can imagine absolutely loving this scent on a man.

it reminds me a bit of armani code.

Sweet tonka beans and vanilla. A good winter time clubbing frag. Girls go crazy over this, but go easy on the trigger- perhaps two sprays and that's it. Lasts forever on my skin. Still not too commonly worn in the midwest USA, but I fear not for much longer.

How is this one a top seller?! Really?! A synthetic vanilla explosion mixed with mint all the way through... too much linear and boring. Stays forever on skin and projects like a monster. Must be doing really well on the market all these years just because in general, girls usually loves a sweet smell and so, guys will pump this fragrance to attract the opposite sex.

Before i really got into fragrances i would see this guy laying around at my local boutique all the time, so much so that i apparently overlooked it time and time again. I read up that Gaultier's inspiration for this piece was "A mans skin in the sun", and to that i would say bravo.
I can vividly remember being at the beach a couple of years ago, and a very similar aroma emanated from my skin after i sat out in the sun all day.
Extraordinary, fascinating and cultivating, Le male has surely stolen the hearts of many men and women over the years. You can add mine to that list.

The top:

Powdery lavender and mint work together as a team creating that "steam over cold air" feeling, similar to cool water, yet obviously different, indescribingly seperate. Herbal artemisia and bergamot add a much appreciated nudge towards a suggestive greeness. Cardamom is simply assisting in that spicy "body odor" type vibe that is echoe'd throughout the entire scent.
Making pretend it's not just something you've applied.

The middle:

In my opinion cinnamon is in this composition more or less as a "binding" agent. Giving structure throughout, leaving nothing without substance.
The middle is where you will really get that "sun-drenched" vibe, because of the creamy floral orange blossom being taken by spicy "red" cardamom. The magic is in the middle with this one. Without these key middle notes i think we would have a whole different beast, with a LOT less body(ironic huh?).

The base:

A soft landing offered by a synthetic vanilla contrasts well with the suger dusted tonka bean you nearly missed. Not smooth, yet not necessarily course, tonka bean adds much needed depth and substance to the composition. In my opinion, Styrax, or Benzoin crystals may have faired better than the Vanilla/Tonka combo.
On the after-smell, we get the ever so slight whiff of saline sandalwood.

I approve

I recently smelled this in a magazine add. I immediately had my hubby try it on because it was very appealing to me. It's a beautiful soft, cool smell.. the best way to describe it is like a light-weight, white angora sweater that you'd wear in the spring. It's almost a feminine fragrance, but the cedar, cinnamon, cardamom, bergamot.. they make it a secure, stable fragrance with masculine undertones. I've never smelled such an ambiguous fragrance before and I like it. My hubby, however, did not. He thought he smelled like a girl and scrubbed it off as soon as he got the chance. It gave him a little bit of a headache (he likes the lavender scent that this has but he's use to musks and vetivers, not so much florals). All in all, I'd say I like this on the paper way better than on a guy. To me, a guy who wears this may have a feminine side... If this perfume were a man, he'd be like Chandler on Friends.

I am completely and utterly flabbergasted by all comments provided here. I must say that this perfume is one of the biggest hype of fragrance history. My boyfriend of 2 yrs is not only amazing, he's also the sexiest, most delicious man I've ever encountered and he won't wear any other cologne but this. Before we were dating I used to steal his shirts just so I could inhale them. This stuff is powerful... first of all a big blast of lavender and mint

then you get a very synthetic note (which is the worst point in this fragrance)

the middle notes are soo delecious the combination of cinnamon and vanilla is seductive

finally dries down to a powdery vanallic scent

projection and longivity are amazing!!

in case if you had hard time finding lemale in your counrty (like me) lol. check out sexy 212 by hererra

I just don´t get why people are so worried about the scent´s popularity, if I like it, I´ll buy it, period.

After this little outflow, let´s go straight towards review:

This perfume is just amazing, light opening, not too sweet, a little powder, with anemisia + lavender + bergamot, great projection, great sillage, i feel like I have 1 million dollars on my bank account when I use it (women sorry I just FEEL LIKE, but I haven´t actually...lol). It´s glamorous, balanced, smooth, tres chic, intended for 30´s to 40´s modern men.

The middle tones are difficult to recognize and the basenotes make the perfume even better, with extraordinary lasting!!!

I love it!!! Like promoscanner, a member of this site said: "women melt in the presence of this scent" 100% agreed!

It´s like no other perfume....UNIQUE..... as someone´s else said in this site, It´s poetry in a bottle...

I have this one but i dont use it, and i dont know why.
The scent is good. The projection em longevity is great.
Well, i know why i dont use this.
I dont use this because it has no use for me. I mean, this is not a scent to be used in everyday, like work and office, because its to sweet and powdery almost sickening.
Sometimes i find it too strong and annoying.
So i may use it in special occasions right? no. I have other better scents for special occasions. This one is too informal, i dont know how to explain.
Also i dont find it sexy because its to irreverent and humorous. The scent smells like sweet baby powder.
Well i dont know when im going to use it.
The bottle and the picture of a gay sailor represents really well this fragrance.

This was not a blind buy for me, so you see, i know what a bought. You may have the same experience i had.

overall 7.5/10

This oriental masterpiece opens with artemisia mixed with the lavender and the great mint. In heart, continues the mixed before, and enter into a sharp aroma by the orange blosson and a touch sweet of cinnamon. The base of sandalwood, amber and the delicious vanilla make us wish eat Le Male lol! I dont need to talk about projection (A+++) and longevity, when u spray that on your skin, glue like a tattoo :)

I hate the bottle, and the can that it comes in. These things aren't important if the juice is good, which I never liked that much when I tried it, but I only tested it once. Love this stuff, definitely a "less is more" type fragrance like Joop Homme, many, many people wear it, which occasionally takes the shine off it for me (due to my idiosyncracies, not the fragrance), just smelt it tonight on many a male out for a drink in my town (Saturday night). It will probably still be very popular in another 15 years time. Bravo Jean Paul.

I smell it again and I like it, cool! Great aromatic, the test paper still is going on strongly. Love the dry down, but still can't bear the bottle; the very example of horrible design. I believe visual aspects as color, shape, size, stopper and etc must support the smell. The scent is too masculine and well blended that I hadn't expected, with great aromatic mainstream: lavender and vanilla. But the bottle illustrates an aquatic perfume, specially the idea of navy in ads.
There are lots of perfect perfumes which main odor are lavender and vanilla like Caron Pour un Homme and YSL l'nuit de la Homme, and don't they look more charming?
Least but not last, great scent but awful bottle and I never ever go for it.

My boyfriend wears this and I have a hard time with this one to be honest. (He wears this because as a hairdresser, the women love this.) The smell of vanilla is apparent, as is powder. Overall a pretty well balanced scent. To define "hard time" I will say I am not "put off" by this scent. On the contrary I rather like it and I know he is around when I smell it, but that also means he can never sneak up on me! Projection is over the top! Maybe he wears too much but I can smell this one as he approaches. And it is rather common too because it seems that I smell this on quite a few other men.

Bottom line? Like rather than love the smell, probably because projection is huge.

Girls love this scent! That's just great...I'm gay.

I suppose this scent shows how much depends on the perfumer's rendition, rather than just the notes. This has more of my favourite notes than many of my favourite scents. But when I smell this I either run or hold my breath.

Yes, I'm female, and I don't associate it with any personal experience. It's the scent itself that offends my nose.

It may be true that most people over-apply. That can ruin a fragrance. But somehow I doubt that anyone who believes in "less is more" would use this in the first place.

Being a devotee of the Hindu God Shiva, the blue bottle instantly reminded me of Shiva. Shiva is usually depicted with a blue body, so the bottle reminded me of Shiva. The mint in the opening reminded me of cold.. Shiva dwells in the peaks where it's very cold. I just thought someone might like the different story of why I fell in love with this fragrance. Whether women like it or not, I love it so I wear it. Not my girlfriend's favourite as in it doesn't turn her on or anything, but she does like the smell so I get to wear it around her too.. I know a few women who don't like this fragrance too.. But majority like it, but nothing special these days.. If you're looking for something similar which is more special these days you can try la nuit de l'homme and Pi.. both of these I think are much better, but they lack the minty chill le male gives me... and I still LOOOOOOOOVE my Le Male.. haha

This is, in a way, a more civilized and a bit feminine version of Caron Pour Un Homme. Reminds me of French Vanilla Coffee Mate that I really love, so I don't mind smelling it all day. :-)

This stuff lasts and projects, so go easy on the trigger, 'cause too much can make you smell like you've spilled the creamer all over yourself. ;-)

The flacon design alone is brilliant. It's surely an equivalent of the classic Coca-Cola bottle in the fragrance world, it's at least equally recognizable.

Something is wrong here, friend...maybe you have the Summer Version of Le Male, or even a fake bottle.

Love the body wash, but the cologne may be a little too much, you can wear the body wash anytime of year, but the cologne you only wear fall/winter/early, cold, and rainy spring... that's the purpose of the body wash is to use it with the body wash you already have, or use it alone, to enhance the overall smell/ aura..

This scent lasts about six hours, and that was after applying three sprays that I desperately hoped were not too much. Initially is has a fresh water kind of scent, though water that is flowing by some sort of flowers. With that said, it's not feminine -- there's a subtle masculine undertow to it that I can't quite peg. It fades rapidly and leaves behind a sweet, faintly musky scent.

My second outing revealed more notes to the mix -- the detergent note and the root beer note! It wasn't the top note of root beer, but the middle, aged, stale kind of smell. I did note some curiosity by the ladies on this, but really I didn't care for how it smelled on me, and it just didn't last very long.

I'm female - I wear a number of unisex or male fragraces (Old spice, Black Leather suede, Bvlgari homme) as well as the girly stuff.

I tried this on in a department store - based on reviews.
I had a guy with me.
"Here, sniff, what do you think," I said.
He sniffed my wrist.
"You smell like sweaty man," he said.
I was a bit aghast.
I smelled like sweaty man?
But not like sweat, as it turned out, it's just that he associated this scent with 'men', and "men are always sweaty", so therefore even though i wasnt sweaty, i smelt like sweaty man!
This was enough to put me off buying this scent for a loooong time. However, every time i wandered by it, i would give it a spray. As a good, non sweet vanilla, gets me every time.
This one got to me.
I just bought it.
I'm now sitting in my lounge, on my lap top, sniffing the smell of sweaty man.
And if i decide it's too much, I always have the option of giving it to a man and smelling it on him, too.

Sexy, Romantic, Passionate, Sensual. Words cannot express the things that come in this bottle. Ive smelled many many fragrances throughout my time. Ive smelled the other popular designer night time/sexy/romantic scents like A*Men, Pure Malt, Armani Code, La Nuit de L'homme, Allure, many many more. Ive smelled the popular niche fragrances in the class such as Musc Ravageur, Tobacco Vanille, New Haarlem, Chergui, and many manny more. But for me, nothing matches up to Jean Paul Gaultier's Le male. For me, its the greatest fragrance in the world.

First of all, the scent itself. From the amazing Mint and Lavender opening, to the absolutely hypnotizing Vanilla middle and drydown, this fragrance is absolute sex in a bottle, an absolute lady killer, and must be by far the most complimented fragrance of all time.

Secondly, many fragrances can smell good, but do they last? and can someone smell me from over there...With Le Male, there is never any worry about that. It projects like a beast and lasts long. That power, coupled with the hypnotizing scent, makes for an absolute gem.

Third. Yeah. Its popular. Its one of the best sellers in the history of the the industry and for damn good reason. Just because it sells alot doesnt mean it should be looked down on. If it wasnt so amazing, it wouldnt be so popular. Its as simple as that. Its overall financial success in the fragrance industry shouldnt be something that you fault this fragrance for, but something that should be recognized and rewarded.

Ive been very very very pleased with alot of fragrances, but there is no fragrance in this world that has left the impression that Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier has left me. When i smelled it on a friend for the first time, i was absolutely shocked. SHOCKED.

This IS the greatest fragrance of all time, and it shouldnt be knocked because so many of tried copying it and it shouldnt be knocked because it doesnt smell funky or like a womens perfume.

Basketball has Michael Jordan. Mens fragrance has Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male.

All hail, The Holy Grail

Smell:The most alluring, romantic, attractive fragrance i have ever smelled;10
Projection:Projects a loooong range with a dreamy powdery vanilla;10
Longevity:11-24 hours. If you choose to wear Le Male in the morning, you choose to wear it ALL day and maybe before your morning shower the next day;10

I have A*MEN which meny say it has a killer longevity(on me 10 to 12 hours), but this one, this one my friends, is a diffrent story!

Longevity: 15 hours(at least)
Projection: Down the street!
Smell: Nothing like this, sintetic, amazing.

I had this cologne last year, I don't know what happend to it, but I just bought it back yesterday, and guess what...everybody said it's great! I like it, I had it, now I have it again...if it's winter, it's Le Male!

All I ever really got from this was a soapy/clean scent that was somehow reminiscent of an old-time barbershop. The sillage and longevity are everything other reviewers have claimed.

While I like this fragrance it never really did anything special for me. This, coupled with my wife's dislike of this one, means I will probably not be buying again.

Oh, come on. The bottle/packaging is not that bad. I think it's a work of art. What better way to represent the scent than to put it in the shape of the wearer's exterior?

I can't imagine what you have to say about Emporio Armani's He and Azzaro's Twin. Don't put much meaning into it. :)

Sixthscents your review is ignorant beyond belief. Its the 21st century now if you had not noticed? Who cares if the bottle is a male torso why does that threaten you? You are probably the kind of man who needs to tear off the sticker off a bottle of Fierce because it has a photo of a mans body on it.
As for the fragrance.... It suffers from the same problem that Joop and Fahernheit does, namely over-application and a feeling of 'of their time'. when these scents are worn with lightness they smell OK, however, when they arer overdone they smell headache enducing.

i was looking for long lasting perfumes so i tested this one, because i had heard that this one and A men from thierry mugler are lonnngg lasting. but this one really not my taste, unique but in bad sence (in my view) . if i want to reject it politely i would say that it is for youngsters who want to feel unique but not for any mature person.

This is a great fragrance. However,if over applied,it can become cloying very fast. The vanilla is very evident from the initial blast, all the way to the drydown.A very well blend of vanilla, and cinnamon, and other great scents.I like this fragrance, but not for everyday. I would only wear this one for special occasions.

A sexy and soft yet masculine scent. It has a very powdery and floral (I get lavender) top with a warm and sweet heart and base. The top notes on this thing are so addictive, probably one of the best I have ever smelt. This is a perfect date night or night out fragrance. Definitely use this if you want to impress that special someone. All in all Le Male is an extremely easy cologne to take in. Also this projects amazingly well and the sillage is quite nice. If you are looking to turn heads in a good way look no further than this.

The "Almighty" Le Male. This very well known fragrance fits in the same category of the 80's powerhouses as YSL Kouros or Paco Rabanne PH in the area of strength, sillage and longevity. It's unnecesary to make another detailed review on this ode on how to make successfull marketing, but I will say some things that may help when you're in the dilemma of "which is better, Le male or...?".
1-Le Male is too common to use it to surprise somebody (lack of uniqueness)
2-Le Male definitely kills every single new frag in the market in terms of sillage, staying power, etc
3- Le Male is the epithome of (synthetic)vanilla-based perfumes. If you like industrially manufactured vanilla (that is to say, aromatic candle smell), you will like this. Personally, i love it
4-Le Male wins in the versatility realm, but NEVER use it in hot summer days or people will hate you.
5-Very expensive, BTW
6- Women really like this, I don't know why. From young girls to mature ladies, every single one of them seems to love this juice.
After all this statement, I must say one final word: TRY IT (let your nose take the final verdict).

Weird combo of Gaultier 2 resiny, spicy incense and an aquatic men's scent. It works, though I can't say why, and dries down to a cool, pleasant musk. Women or men could wear this, no matter what gianmarco said here. I think he was more turned off by smelling a recognizable man's scent on a woman than by the fragrance itself. If I wear Old Spice, it's because I like the scent and sorry to any guy out there who can't hack a woman wearing a man's scent. Men wear womens scents too, and we try not to draw lines.

I am yet another woman who enjoys wearing this for herself! As a big fan of lavender this fragrance is one of my favourites. This is a lovely scent that is sweet but not over the top like some women's perfumes which can easily be too floral or fruity for my liking. The drydown is gorgeous and warm and lasts all day - especially on my clothes. Both men and women have complimented me when wearing this and I'll always be sure to have a bottle in my collection!

This scent opens up with a blast of comforting warm soap. However, the dry down evolves into one of the best done vanilla scents I have encountered.

The problem with this scent is that every high school kid across America has it and wears it horribly. If you want to wear something unique and not smell like the drones of kids wearing ADG you still need to pass, or you will smell like the drones or kids wearing JPG LM. It is a projection monster and one needs to be careful about how they apply this scent.

I continue to own this fragrance because my wife likes it, but I don't think it is an interesting as Versace's Dreamer, or a multitude of other powdery scents.

I was wondering what to get my dad for Christmas, and though he asked for Boss Bottled, I did not like it at all. Then I considered Acqua di Gio, but after smelling it, I didn't think it would suit an over 80 years old man. More for younger guys, I think. Then a colleague at work gave me a sample of Le Male, and that's what I'm gonna get for my dad! It's classic, not too sharp, masculine but soft and pleasant. I'm so happy I made up my mind! Lets hope my dad's gonna love it as much as I do!

On my skin:
Top: Sharp, vanilla-like scent, with sweetness-mints in it. Its like eating the eclipse sweet, mix with vanilla seeds...I dunno....6 hours (OMG).

Middle: Not much changes from this unique-shape bottle. the vanilla turns up a little, the mint settles down, and the sharpness wears down a little; 6 hours.

Base: Vanilla, vanilla, and more vanilla; 6 hours.

For sure its a complement getter (80% likes, 20% hates). Girls LOVE this one. This is a common-every-one uses it fragrance. I bet some girl hates this because her boyfriend dump her, and he is on Le Male.

Night out, clubbing scent. It can be a chill out with friends at night scent. BUT not for work, you boss will hate you when you're on this.

I have scent this around college students, so if you want to be unique, this is a pass.

If you want attention, you want to get laid, or whatever, or you are MR POPULAR, bingo, this is for you.

The country I am in has no 4 seasons, so it is either hot or cold weather. This works pretty very well on both actually, as I mention, I have scent this in college, so heck.

My rating (base on 5 stars)

Scent: 2 (eveyone has it, its not unique, its boring, JPG is making money. A 5 if it is MR POPULAR's signature scent).

Sillage: 5 (this is a godzilla scent, its your Lady Gaga, your Jonas Brothers, your DJ's in the house y'all scent).

Time length: 5 (bazooka scent that sends you to the moon).

Occasion: 2 (YES! finally it gets a 2 score for me! night out scent but also a day scent, not for work, you get a 5 if you are MR POPULAR).

Overall base on mathematics: 3.5 @ 5/5
FOR MR POPULAR!

COMMON SCENT, MR POPULAR SCENT, CHICKS LOVE IT, BOSS HATES IT, I HATE IT.

Tested it on paper while looking for a Christmas present for a friend and there is no way in hell he's getting this - because I don't find it very manly and because I'M KEEPING IT FOR MYSELF; I got the loveliest burst of cherries - I have read other reviews and NOBODY smelled cherries; Weird perception on my part but I got a sense of fresh, not too sweet, rather cool, heightened cherry smell with a creaminess around it; I wanted to eat that piece of paper. I'm gonna try it on my skin next and hope *please, please, please* that my skin does not ruin it (I'm not expecting any cherry smell, I suspect it's gonna be quite different on skin from what I got on paper... Maybe I was just hungry when I smelled it first)

Lovely on my skin too, and the cherry was there too followed by amazing warm musk and vanilla at the end. Great perfume! And I take back what I said about it not being masculine enough, I think a man could defenetly carry this. It's downright edible.

What a fragrance!! Le Male in my opinion just has to be the best male fragrance from jean paul gaultier. I used to date a guy from argentina and when he wore Le Male it drove me crazy with delight and most of the girls he knew loved it on him. Le Male is sexy, crazy and fun. It envokes passion. Just the fragrance to wear on the dance floor. Le Male is perfect for the man who is ambitious, sexy, flirtatious, romantic and passionate. I just love the bottle design, jean paul is a master of design.

YOu can say that it's very popular, that is on every men's neck, you can say whatever you want, but this scent is so damn good! Even it has past a fifteen years..this scent gives more and more! It's so thick scent...like it says, "I want to hug you". Big projection, aura, longivity...so complex style, openning with a mint and lavender and the heart mixed with base notes gives us so delicate, tasty scent...someone says that it's a chemical bomb, but I say it's a magnificient bomb! The fragrance that connects and embraces everyone in the surrounding...this fragrance wrote a small piece of history with such a beautiful moments for someone, that is for sure. I want them to last as the fragrance last...for ever!

That's the one that introduced me to the hobby of scents. Yes, it was a bit of that "what can I add to my arsenal to attract girls?". It screams fun, fun, fun.

The good
Young girls dig this. Period.
It's also a pretty complex mainstream fragrance. Most laymen probably don't even know about the notes pyramid but it's all there, knock-offs and cheapos can't pull it off. It's a fun journey indeed, from the fresh top to the cheerful heart, finally arriving at the clean drydown.
Unique and it doesn't feel like the cliche men's scents.
Proper sillage test shows it's not really so sweet as some people claim, if applied with a light hand.
Atomic sillage and staying power.

The bad
Because of the gender crossing thematic typical of Gaultier's, this one will sparkle discussions on what's appropriate for men pretty often. Conservative noses will label it girlish or gay, so be ready for it.
I believe it's a "fun scent" and therefore not appropriate for office and formal settings.
The top notes feel indeed industrial/synthetic and that might put off some.

The ugly
Being the quintessential "pickup scent", many men treat it like a love potion: the more the better, they must think. The resulting mess is disgusting but what scent doesn't reek when overapplied?
Not appropriate for very hot weather.
To each their own but I also find older (40+) folks wearing this as trying too hard most of the time, just like it would feel it they wore teenager clothing.
Quite a many people mistake it for Cuba Gold, a cheapo, as the heart notes are pretty close.

after wearing this stuff for awhile i have noticed a few things that are VERY important about this scent

it is VERY heavy and can EASILY be overpowering if not applied very sparingly.....a few sprays could easily last a week

this is definately a sweet smelling scent and i have heard of it as a "lady killer" this is NOT what i have found wearing it and actually a few people were put off by it's "pungent" smell

it is a very soapy heavy scent that MUST be only worn for romantic wear and if u wear it to class don't be upset if all the people sit across the room from u.... it MUST be worn at the right occasion just like joop

This is now my favorite serious-occasion perfume. So cool, punchy and confident on top, needs rather very long time (compared to other ones I have/had) to subside on my skin. On first and second use, I even wondered and thought of not wearing it anymore. But after the third time, wow!

After topnote dissipates, it turned 180 degrees; more warm/sexy, rounded, and sweet. Makes me like it even more.

Who said this perfume isn't masculine? They just ain't have any confidence wearing it. If you are, wear it, and it will reinforce your confidence even more.

Well, you should try it several times, just to make sure. It's strong at first, anyway...

Brought home a sample for my university-aged son.

I'll probably be chastised for saying this, but -- if it's going to appeal to a certain demographic, it might tend to appeal to a younger generation. (Notice I said "might" and "tend". Meaning: not all young people are going to like it; and some not-quite-so-young people might. Did I put enough qualifiers in there?)

What with both the tonka and vanilla beans, it's very sweet, indeed, which is quite popular in fragrances these days. To MY nose, Le Male is "suffocating" (as one reviewer remarked). It actually bothers the back of my throat when I smell it. I sense an aoud/incense as well, even though they're not listed in the notes.

If you wonder whether this sugary concoction has any staying power as the hours pass by -- fear not! Longevity is (unfortunately) no problem.

My son is not crazy about this either, but his girlfriend (who lives for vanilla-flavoured perfumes/candles/air fresheners) absolutely adores it. Such a good sport, this lad of mine. Ah! Young love!

At first sight, everything is very offputting: the bottle, the brandname, the designer, the packaging, the adverts, even the perfume as per the thousands of men dousing themselves in this. If this is your case, do yourself a favor and get rid of preconceptions for Mr. Kourkdjan did an excellent job.

Le Mâle is very complex, noticing the way notes morph is a joy in itself - down here (Argentina) Le Mâle has been copied succesfuly to some extent, for this complexity has not been achieved either by knock-offs nor by local designer scents. It is very sweet and powdery, in a way it pays tribute to classic scents, without being dated. The sweetness does refer to actual styles in masculine scents without the shyness and subtlety so common in recent releases, traditional wearers or critics might perceive it as femenine, but, let's face it, things change, and in this case, it is something positive.

However, Le Mâle should be applied with care for it can end up being a nightmare for those around a careless wearer. One or two sprays do, they will make you smell good, get compliments, get whiffs of it day long, and best of all, smell like a man should for the base notes correspond to a classic male scent.

This one is very unique, and absolutely a love/hate scent. It`s a bit strange that it`s so popular, because it`s definitively not ordinary and boring. You will not go un-noticed when wearing this stuff. Be very careful on the trigger, otherwise it can be sickenly cloying, and give you a headache. I would say max 2 spray under your shirt. It`s a "spray in air walk throug cloud" scent. I think the reason people don`t like it, is because some guys overspray themselves with this stuff. If you think this scent is ok, but want to try something more refined and luxurious, I will recommend Amouage Reflection. It has the same "aura" in a sort of way, but is much more refined with more high quality ingredients. As always, try before you buy! Good luck..

This EDT is a classic for many. It has a musky smell of a fresh, masculine, powerful, and very fine. It is very recognizable note of musk in this fragrance. It seems very linear, which may be a good effect if you want a scent of musk. I do not think it is for teens, this harmonizes better with men from 21 onwards. It is very romantic musk. I do not think has more purposes than this scent of seduction.

To my point of view is just a very fine smell of musk. The bottle has a very original design, although not very attractive to men (what kind of man would grab a man's body?).

Without wasting any time and to make it short: the French luxury fashion brand Jean-Paul Gaultier have given a classic of male fragrances to the world. Created in the mid-nineties it is already so popular and famous by now that it can be purchased all over the world (I travelled the Sahara desert and what I found there was Coca Cola lemonade and Gaultier's "Le Male").

But seriously, when a perfume was popular during the 1990s, is still popular at the present time and will surely be popular in the future I think one can call that perfume a classic. "Le Male" is evidence enough that men's fragrances can be both oriental and masculine.

The perfume itself is great. I couldn't imagine how sweet vanilla and cinnamon can be so important in a perfume and not make it puerile; however, Le Male is playful. The blend of herbs is well done and not offensive to me, and the long-lasting base is also OK.
I somehow agree with zvoncica, and I think that this perfume doesn't suit everyone. It inevitableby makes me think of the young lovers of mature glories who get confused with night; but it also reminds me good friends. Men can be things much worse than irresponsible; and not all men must smell mature and serious, and take women seriously. However, this perfume can feel as a stupid joke when worn by the wrong person.

I observed Le Male from various points down the testing alley he walked. On test paper, on friend, on my skin, on boyfriend, on stranger. Most striking note in it are green aromatics which give him cold and metallic appearance. Endless lavender bushes, not even natural, this are lavender fields on spray painted picture. Original toothpaste mint and dreadful "thank you cant stand anymore" artemisia.

Le Male has the frying pan personality and is lovely as Spain boot. The sailor? He is on Balldessarini`s Ambre boat. This is consumed gigolo in B movie cast.
Avoid.

Ughhh... I despise this scent almost as much as A*Men. Lavender and Vanilla, so feminine and yet that is all that this smells like...for 10 hrs. Gives me a headache just thinking about it, I have no idea how this scent is so popular.

now this cologne is exellent regardless what anyone would say, this is a brilliant creation. It is a very masculine scent that follow you throughout the day unlike many other colognes that just die out. I would class this scent in the same category as dolce & gabbana, john varvatos, thierry mugler all because these colognes have great longetivity and it screams MASCULINE SCENT. all in all 9.5/10

When worn right, and this means only 1 spray on the chest, it's the best winter fragrance you can get. But it becomes a cloying mess when people douse themselve in it.
The fragrance opens with lavender and minth, soothing and refreshing at once. Further on, you'll smell orange blossom and in the later drydown sandalwood, tonka and vanilla combo. Longevity and sillage are extraordinary.
Conclusion: seductive winter fragrance that never fails to get you complimented if you wear it lightly!

8,5/10 (one spray) in winter
4/10 (more than two sprays) on a hot summer day.

Pure sharp strong lavender essence makes a long lasting aura of nature around you and you can’t get rid of it for many hours!

I had another lavender-base cologne “Pour Un Homme de Caron by Caron”, that was more mature and less wild comparison to this one.

“Le Male” is very strong and overwhelming. Even you use just a little amount; it takes about half an hour to getting calm and manifests the real heart of scent.

Longevity and sillage are so good.
I like it too ☺

Hmmm, if only all men in the world smelt like this (apart from all dads, obviously). It's sexy because it's different to the pipe and slippers school of 'sophisticated' male scents, which unfortunately remind most people of bosses or uncles. I MUST buy a bottle for my husband, though he's smelling pretty good in my MAC MV3 at the moment!!

This is my signature fall cologne. it stars off very floral. in the opening the lavender is very prominent witha hint of bergamot and mint. it has one of "THE" best opening. in the dry down the vanilla is the most prominent and with a hint of tonka beans. this bad boy spreads like crazy. it always leaves a scent trail like when i exit a building and if theirs someone close to me , he will definatly turn his or her head around to see me and mostly its her head. im tellin you guys its a real head turner. and it last on my skin minimum 6 hrs. with that enough said .PEACE !

My fiancee wears this often and I wished he didn't because I don't like it. I find it suffocating, too powdery and sweet for my liking. Bear in mind I may be biased here because I like my guy smelling soapy-clean, with that fresh-out-the-shower aura. I think it's really appealing on a man. Anyway, I am also one of those people who believes fragrances should not be labeled as feminine or masculine. My fiancee and I share and exchange some scents because we wear whatever the heck we want despite any labels. With that being said, I think Le Male is simply too sweet and powdery for anyone - male or female.

I understand that this is one of the classic male perfumes of the 1990s, and I actually do like the smell, yet it reminds me of scented erasers that were popular when I went to school. This makes it cheap and childish, and hence not sexy at all. This of course applies only to my mind, so go out and have a go.

I can't say the word wonderful enough when it comes to describing this amazing Jean Paul Gaultier creation.

I don't know where these so-called 'homosexual' and 'metrosexual' terminologies come from. I'm not one for throwing a fragrance into a particular category, Le Male can be either masculine or sweet with a feministic touch, it all depends on how you interpret the scent.

Because vanilla and musk are dominant notes in this fragrance, I can see why some men might think that this lacks masculinity. Let me assure you that when worn by the right man this has all the potential to make me swoon.

Le Male is sweet yet refreshing at the same time. Some have noted an almost soapy and powdery quality, which is certainly there, however I quite like it. I particularly love that for a fragrance which is so popular, it is so unique, one of a kind.

The lasting strength, is honestly, out of this world. It has the ability to last and last. I must add that I rather like the bottle. I like its bold and straight-forward design. It's beyond me to understand why someone would be ashamed of displaying it.

Why did I have to miss the fougere part? I might like the heavy sweet scent more were I treated to
some lavender, mint and artemesia!

I was at a milonga (tango dance)wearing a bit of a sample of one of those luscious and demure way-to-expensive-to-buy fragrances, when I encountered and danced with a guy who went crazy with his bottle of Le Male. I have a light hand with my fragrances, most of the time, definitely that time--But I couldn't smell myself at all, nor anything else except for a bit of wood and SWEETNESS! I was thinking I could wear his cologne myself, and nobody would know it was a a fragrance made for men. I like a creative, unusual kind of sweet scent on men, but this doesn't make me look twice. Perhaps it could be nice if he wore just a touch. This didn't upset my nose, but it did irritate me. A really great fragrance can still make you swoon, or boost your mood when you smell it on somebody who sprayed just a bit too much (as long as you are in an open, well-ventilated area, not during allergy season). If this was wonderful, his heavy-handed approach wouldn't have seemed so aggressive.
I smelled Burberry Brit for men on one of my friends when I left the dance, and I was reminded what a well-balanced scent smells like, after being upstaged by this mean one.

omg, i am in loooove with this cologne, it smells soooooo good! the bottle is really ugly, but oh my god it makes my heart melt to smell this... like literally, my heart starts to do those little flips because it smells so good... it's unexpected too because the bottle is blue so you would expect something citrusy and sharp, quite to the contrary, however, this scent is warm and embracing, like falling asleep next to a fireplace, or hugging an old friend. i love it! <3

& i agree with the review below me, very sexy indeed ;)

In this case meets this principle so well known that the fragance in small packages .................. ............ and here we should have to Le Male added that in the right dose (to be exact ........ 3 sprays, one in the chest and two behind the ears. Well, that's my advice!
I love this fragrance but it is also true that I smelled in people who have spent at the dose ... and it is very heavy. It is the fragrance, along with Cool Water, which I have received more compliments in all age ranges. 9.5/10 for me

Great fragrance that lasts pretty long, atleast on my skin, at first is smells kind of soapy and clean, then the scent reminds me alot of those orange slice shaped gummies covered in sugar with a slight mint note on top of that, and after that it becomes very smooth and warm, with vanilla and amber. Its great at night when youre out having a good time in my opinion. Alot of people say that everyone wears this, but I rarely meet people wearing this fragrance. Even if alot of people did, I cant deny that it smells really good!

Le Male is the most famous male fragrance. The bottle says it all - as masculine as possible, but playful and ambivalent due to the stripes.

The scent replies to the images of the bottle it's contained in properly.

The beginning is brute and truly manly, pumped up with cardamom, artemisia and mint. It's ....the male.

A few minutes later though the stripes start to creep in. And all of a sudden the tough male has become , well , playful. Freed from manly restrictions.

And, yes, middle and base notes are fantastic. Woods, cinnamon and vanilla make Le Male what it is - a true masterpiece of fragrance world.

One of those fragrances that, if over-applied, can lead to a disastrous experience, but when you put on the right amount (2 to 3 sprays), it's a fragrance that yourself and the others around you can REALLY enjoy. I love the spicy florals, mint and vanilla. They seem to work well with each other. I would definitely recommend this for night wear. The bottle is also pretty cool.

I am not sure why "gay" or "meterosexual" come up whenever Le Male is discussed. Is it the fact the bottle is a male torso or is it the AMAZING smell it has?

I wear this a lot. I have worn this since the 90s in college and have always gotten compliments.

The lavender and mint and very strong and refreshing. The base with its spicy and gourmand notes make it the perfect fragnrance. I do not get anything synthetic on me. What a classic. TIMELESS

It is not bad, but simply I do not find it sexy. I perceive it as great for gay or bisexual men. It was designed for them if you study well its story. I do not like it because the tonka is so strong, that I perceive it as synthetic, plus I get some metallic notes I do not enjoy very much. Plus, many men already wear it, so why bother?

This smell nice and will be a good scent for the winter. Too bad my country is hot year round so I cannot wear this, the bottle is cool though and the advertising is amazing. Like the sailor theme :D! I really don't understand the controversy about this one as well as A*Men. IMO, both smell quite nice and inoffensive. I tried if I could like JPG offerings: Le Male and Fleur D’ Male. These fragrances in my ultimate opinion (whether good or bad) are typical "metro sexual" realities! Thereafter, being a lasting and silage monsters is an impractical feature for insisting me to put them in any sort of regular usage.

Thumbs Down for having these worst fragrances in my collection. I spent a quite heavy price to get them. Worst 2nd Buy in my 75+ collection is “Le Male” while the 1st one is "Fleur D' Male" (yakhhhhhhh!!!)

And after getting these 2 from JPG, I learnt to try at least twice before buying any PERFUME!

Final Conclusion: Only use in which I can put Le Male is to mix it with some sophisticated heavy & spicy fragrance to give a little sweet touch! And unfortunately can’t put Fleur D’ Male even for such a use.

NOT a fan of this one... First smell was from a magazine, and I couldn't bear it. I passed the mag over to my girlfriend (to see if it was just me) and she gave the same reaction... Blah!

This is definitely one of my favourite scents. It just hits you with an aroma that is both dark and heavy as well as fresh at the same time. The most noticeable characteristic for me upon first applying is the vanilla/little bit of mint/almost soapy kind of scent. As it progreses I can see how some are turned off by the kind of chemically scents in there but I think for the most part that is an issue of overapplication. This scent is meant to be worn lightly.

Ok, since making mistakes is only human and rectify them is for those who are wize, I´m going to rectify my previous review. After three days wearing Le Male, I can say I´ve changed my mind, I now can see what a beautiful piece of art it is, the minty start, the cinnamon, the super sexy vanilla, just beautiful. I recomend it, but be patient and don´t be scared, it takes a while to accustom to it.

yeah, yeah, women like this scent... If that is the philosophy, lets all start wearing feminine scents and see the result. Maybe youll get compliments from the ladies, but in the end you will start to feel like one. This parfume is unisex to me, and I think JPG created a bottle in a form of a male body to emphasize that it is actually a male scent; so people wouldnt be confused.

I have realised this is a love/hate scent as with A-men and Dior Homme, but the majority loves it. The smell is strong, fresh, sweet and musky. Le male has a very strong sweet smell which dominates everything else in the room, women do like it very much but i will not recommend for the summer, you have to a bit of a metrosexual to wear it it isn't something you want to buy a macho man!

Wow, this is a really distinctive vanilla musk smell. It smells like the old Arrid Extra Extra Dry roll-on deodorant from the 1970's. (The new stuff smells different.) So, although I kind of like the vanilla, I can't help but think "deodorant" when I smell it.
