Intensive and sensible, modern, and comfortably warm, masculine and gentle... Le Male is magnetically attractive fragrance which seduces with its uniqueness; it is built on contrasts: traditional and bold, fresh and mild, strong and sensual, in one word: absolutely irresistible for women. Fresh mint is a symbol of strength; the tradition is represented by lavender; vanilla gives warmth and tenderness. The top notes are composed of mint, lavender and bergamot. The heart is composed of cinnamon, cumin, and orange blossom. The base contains vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and cedarwood. It was created in 1995 by Francis Kurkdjian.

women may enjoy this smell but i dont.

smells very cheap and chemically, not natural at all.

overrated frag. will smell like other 20 men around you.

for this price there are plenty others (although may not be projection and longevity beast).

the longevity makes this smell lingers longer which is definitely not a good thing!

Try boss bottled, similar price but smells more natural.

3/10. sadly one of those that makes you gag.

As a girl who sometimes likes to wear men's fragrances, I thought I would love this. Most of the negative reviews seemed to concern either the sweetness (bring it on!) or the bottle of Le Male (really guys? Really?).

When I sprayed it on I realized that it is indeed a perfume I've smelled on other people. No surprise there; that's not my problem with Le Male.

The reason I really dislike this scent is because when I smell my skin it smells like sheep! Like, I get a seriously gross scent, like a more pungent version of the taste sheep meat has. It's making me feel ill. I tried to wash it off but it won't budge. This happens every time I spray it on. It's less noticeable on paper, but now that I know what to look for I can smell it on a paper strip too.

The sillage is pretty impressive, and that sheep scent is only really apparent when I get closer to the skin. If my nose didn't have that unfortunate reaction to the combination of notes I probably would've enjoyed it somewhat. As it is, though, Le Male is my biggest waste of money yet.

Ahhhh LeMale, how I love thee. The guy I was in LOVE with back in the day was wearing this non stop, and to this day a whiff of it makes me......hot lol. It may be overused BUT I dont care. If every man smelled like this I would be just FINE with it!
On a side note, the other day I was in the supermarket and one gentleman stopped another and said"MAN, you smell good, what is that you got on?" He replied, "Le Male"....I caught a whiff and it sure was.

Bottom line, still works, still gets noticed, still makes people "happy" :)

Response to Aryo:

I am always wary of fragrances that don't have lids as they can be prone to evaporation.

You would see a stain if the bottle was leaking, I suspect it's evaporating.

***Unless you have someone in your household that loves it as much as you, and helps themselves to it when you're not looking ;)

It is a really gorgeous fragrance, my husband has worn it for years now, as I bought it for him when we were dating. He told me he's never worn an aftershave where MEN ask him what he's wearing, until this one.

Good luck with it! K

Le male is the result of adding baby powder to a gallon of vanilla ice cream. A very sweet and at one time unique fragrance. Unfortunately, I can't stand it (just like Joop) as some overzealous individuals have doused themselves in it giving me a splitting headache and rushing to check my sugar levels. I will say this is a great fragrance with quality and longevity on par with A-men. JPG chose to have a limbless bottle representing his line up so even though bottle is unique, it still looks weird. Maybe they need to have a red bottle with green stripes to match up Freddy Kruger's sweater, that would explain the loss of limbs.

This scent would be very sexy on a man. My boyfriend wears it and I go crazy whenever he wears this. It smells so good on him! It might sounds gross as my dad used to wear this fragrance when he was younger, so when my boyfriend wears this,it does smells somewhat similar at first but still different and smells nicer on him. Must be his body chemistry with the scent I guess. This fragrance definitely smells better and quite different on him, so I didn't complain or start comparing being that my dad used to wear the same one when I was little. This one is definitely recommended for men, I find it very addicting and sexy.

A very sexy scent. More appropriate for a night out on the town than a day at the office. The bottle is a bit, um...artsy, but I can forgive that because the juice inside is so sensual. Begins with a burst of lavender and then I smell soft cinnamon, vanilla and a hint of coffee, which is a nice change in a world of men's colognes that seems dominated by citrus or aquatic notes. Le Male is not a fragrance that every guy could pull off. He needs to be secure enough in his sexuality that the powdery feminine quality this has does not scare him away. It's a warm smell and should be worn quite lightly, as though it is your natural musk. Women love this one.

Hey guys, check out "Africa" by Tesori d'Oriente. I'm wearing it right now, and it smells very similar to "Le Male" to my nose. It starts very cool and herbal - you can smell the artemisia and the mint, then it gradually progresses into a sweeter (very sweet) vanilla/honey scent that blends with the cooler, minty scent, so it's like warm and fresh at the same time. 100 ml cost about 4 euro in Italy. It's a drugstore dupe. One spray and you're set. It projects and lasts for a whole day!

@Trickykid and gianmarco
Trickykid300 is right, he does not have a fake one.
It is really ruined now the juice.
By Jean Paultier self.
It's reformulated , watered down.
It is a waste and ruined.
So i wont buy it anymore.
So, some of you might have still a good old version.
But the new version is spreading.
So we will get more and more reactions about that the longevity is bad now.

absolutely amazing. smells like a manly, spiced vanilla candle. I dont understnad how people are getting longevity out of this. It only last on me for a couple of hours...and does anybody else notice that when you overapply this there is a strong alcohol smell...its underneath the mint...like there using mint to cover it up. I like it but its starting to go the way of cool water, where its becoming more synthetic and cheap. I would pay double the price of this to get the same smell made from essential oils....but this is just too watered down and cheap smelling

On first spray, I get a fresh, minty vanilla which stays on my skin for the first hour or so.
Then, it progresses into this complex, seductively beautiful earthy vanilla which is the real reason I like it so much.
Yes, maybe a lot of people wear it but, for this fragrance, that fact is for a reason!

I like this stuff. I tell ya though, I've read through the reviews and I can't believe hardly anyone has mentioned how similar it smells to Joop! I'm starting to wonder if my nose is off haha. Seriously though, the first time I tried it I thought it smelled undeniably close. Later on I decided to try it again and put Joop! on my other arm, and they literally smelled so close to each other that I simply couldn't justify spending money on le male because I already have Joop! The only difference is that Joop! might be a tad spicier because of the cinnamon, but thats about it.

Yes, it's been reformulated. It's much less fresh, sharp, and youthful now. It smells powdery and dowdy, like an old man, far past his prime, who's lost his virility. It smells as dated as it really is. This, coupled with the fact that everybody's been wearing this scent for years, is tragic, as the only reason to smell like 60 year old man is because his fragrance of choice smells amazing. Well, Le Male no longer does, and projection and longevity are atrocious. It's the same story with the vaunted and once spectacular, A*Men. Sad, diluted, and ruined, all to meet the bottom line. Capitalism at its very finest.

Absolutelly REFORMULATED! They ruined a masterpiece of gourmand scents! The old Le Male was: A blast of minty freshness that lasts about 3h with the sweet-cooling scent, projects about 4m range around you with longevity of 12h (minimum). The new Le (crap) Male is: A poor and shy mix of vanilla (sweeter than older version), lavender and a hint of mint, much less fresh than older version. Almost PLAIN from top to heart notes. A drydown bit less powdery, and... That's the new shit. Longevity overall is still good, but projection? Just a shame! Ruined, they just totally ruined my lovely scent.

I was a little afraid, but for my surprise, i really enjoyed it..

The longevity is really poor.. Three hours max, here in Brazil..

Poeple criticize the bottle design, its called Le male, its a male body as the body. More straight forward than that is not possible. All cologne bottles are square or box form, this one actually is original so it shouldnt be criticized... Le male is a scent that when it came out was not similar to anything ever smelled, and the bottle was not similiar to any bottle ever made. Its just a love love situation.

Le male is my Power scent, especaly when I have to play the metrosexual or company Fag. It screams I'm scented and scented very well.
Girls love it cause its so Androgenisticly loud, but works as a morning freash scent that fades into a great evening swagger. It go's great with the gurl version it's what me and my partner would wear tbem comlementry when escorting charging the highest Agencey prices.Too sum it up:

This is my favorite scent hands down. I will always have a bottle of this stuff. For me this scent has staying power, projection and smells great. I personally do not think this is for ladies at all, to me it's a man's scent only. I have tried tons of scents from cheap to very high end and still love this one the most. This is best in cooler weather and evening events. However I like it so much that I wear it a lot and all different times.

I had a feeling, man. He wears niche. His Top 100 vid was virtually blasphemy to me. Personally, I rock only the most unique, kick-ass, amazing and vintage designer fragrances. They're designed to appeal to others, not to be artsy, experimental, and or merely pretentious. They also don't cost a small fortune either. I'd have ripped that top 100 Designer Fragrances video to shreds, if I didn't laud the effort that it must have taken him to make it. That, I can appreciate, but I ask you, how can anyone who has probably worn ANY ONE of those fragrances no more than five times in the past two years, make a Top 100 designer video??? On another note, imagine how ballin' the guy would be if he wasn't wasting $200 per bottle on fragrances that don't smell unique, just weird, and by the dozens!!! It's a little sad, in a way, but oh well... to each his own. :) I'm rather proud of my own little FB, designer/vintage collection. They're all ranked in descending order and I'd consider the first 18 of them to be straight 10/10s. Once I have those final three, I'm out of the game, man. I have other things to drop money on, and I'll be smelling amazing for the rest of my life! :) And oh yeah... I wonder just who Marc is on here.

Okay so once I invited this 9.5/10 over to my house for some quality time, and I was in my room blankly staring at the gathering collection of colognes thinking 'Which of you is the sexiest of them all?' I confidently pulled the flamboyant bottle from my shelf and had a short nose-gasm when I sprayed it on. 'How can she resist?' I wondered, 'This iiis Le Male...' She comes over and assertively wrap my arms around her and it's good for a second until she draws back in quiet horror, and says 'You smell like my dad!' I was shamed, and then thought, 'At least I know you have daddy issues, so psychologically this might have been a good idea!'

I'll do pretty the same remark as I said on Acqua di Gio.
Victim of its own success, period.

It's a truly mainstream masterpiece, a must-have. But...
Too worn, not original to have it.

I mean, what's the point to have a perfume worn by so many people ? In my opinion, a perfume is an alter-ego, a second skin, an olfactive personality... You won't have one if you wear it on the street or in a party.

But at home or with female friends, go for it !

Le male by jean paul gaultier..

It's a masterpiece by francis kurkdjian.. the best..!!
I used it for office and lots of female follow me and askme a crapt just for close to me.. and said "u smell good" n close their nose to me.. ahahahahah..
First spray, a second i got fresh mint and a bit smooth lavender combine with vanilla, just like everybody said.. creamy ice cream vanilla.. but in fresh version.. not powdery.. but fresh..
Then the last.. i got musky scent from a cedar n ambery tonka bean mix perfectly with the top, n middle notes..
I said... sheeeeeerrr.. like in european lavender n vanilla field in the fresh morning and siluet of fog surround..
Oh god.. francis kurkdjian really my beloved parfumer.. and thanks god i found friend for my top collection ARMANI CODE.. same type.. sexy n seductive fragance..
All my review is.. 9/10 for all sillage, projection, and longevity..

Le Male, mmh... I like this !

A very original scent, great sillage and longevity.

Some people tend to hate it because of its popularity. I have to agree that having so many people in my surroundings wearing it is kinda annoying...

Because one the other hand it's a terrific perfume. Well crafted, smooth and seductive.

Good value for money, many different sets available. A must have !

PS : the "Beau Male" flanker is a joke. Just stick to Le Male guys. I hope that JPG will soon come up with a whole new line of fragrances for men. They're capable of making incredible scents. Just making flankers is a waste of talent and would tamper with their brand image (my opinion).

I'm a user of Le Male for over 11 years obviously because I loved it for smell, longevity and sillage. Over the years but I can see there is marked quality difference in terms of both longevity and sillage and totally agree with jiggaman with his observations. I've always been skeptical of perfume stores and bought these from either popular department stores or from major international airport duty free shops, so its highly unlikely I'm getting not an original one. So it could be either something extremely wrong with mine and my wife's olfactory senses or the product got watered down over the years. I'm not sure I would ever know the answer. For a change (and to test), the last bottle I bought is a 200mL one from an Australian online seller "feeling sexy" (who have a 100% positive review feedback with 1000s of bottles sold and is based in Melbourne with an excellent response both in terms of postage and questions) for $98 and all I cay is its still very consistent with the one I bought from a Singapore airport duty free shop! So its all the same... just not the same Le Male I knew 5 or 6 years ago. :(

@jiggaman - I bought a bottle of this for my partner in Feb, and 2 sprays creates nice cloud around him. It is a big cloud, easily noticeable. Applying 8-10 sprays? You either bought some dodgy bottle or it's your body reaction to overapplying. Maybe ask somebody if they can smell it? Lack of compliments - there may be reasons for that...

Not too sure why "very long lasting" has the most votes. I just bought a bottle 2 months ago and it gets 2-4 hours max at full power using 8-10 sprays. Sillage is about 3-6 feet within that time frame. After that it sits close to the skin for another 3-4 hours. Youll get compliments if youve applied recently,, But its nowhere near the beast that ppl are portraying it to be. Maybe back in the day but not the new juice that's being sold.

To me the top is my favorite and smells like lavender ice cream and mint. It is refreshing, creamy, and cool. Cinnamon, tonka, and amber those sweet spicy notes just kind of creep up under the ice cream and make it a lot more masculine. At first spray I thought I could totally wear this, but once the middle comes in I really realize that this stuff is actually pretty manly. I smell a lot of cedar. Maybe I've just smelt this on too many guys already but when I smell it, it actually just smells like guy's skin.
I guess those first 20 minutes give it that metero-sexual rep I am guilty of accusing this for. The rest though is man-manly. Too manly for me personally.
Really musky and spicy. Not super sweet but semi-sweet.
Pass for me, but I would like it on a guy.

My dear mother has worn this as her signature for years since her mid-fifties. She goes through a bottle every six months, and she reports daily compliments. Smelling it on her, it makes sense for a mature woman, to me anyway.

This perfume certainly has character, but the vanilla is so overwhelming that I myself cannot figure out a man who would like to wear it. For a woman, I found it too sharp, maybe because of the strong lavender note, and I agree that this is a sort of ambivalent fragrance. I really don t know to whom could I recommend it.

I tought JPG le male would be the perfect first try in the male fragrances. And it was what I expected with a twist! When I first applied the scent immediately brought me a memory and I couldn't identify which one or where it was. I first thought it has been from a salon, a shampoo? No. A hair spray? Definitely no. And then suddenly it hit me ...... Maroccan oil !!!!!! The scent on my skin is exactly the same as Moroccan Oil, and is not that I don't like it I really do. Everyone complements me when I extra condicionates my hair. If you do like the scent pair with the moisturiser treatment! Hahahah

I wore this 10-12 years ago in high school. The girls thought it smelled so good, and so did I. Not too many people wore this at the time so you didn't get "Oh it's Le Male...."

I still think it smells good, but I don't wear it anymore.

For me, this is a fragrance that I associate with fond memories, but I probably won't use it again because I won't get the same reactions as I did in the past and it suited my personality at the time I wore it.

I'll never forget it though.

Sorry, not a fan of this frag.
I bought it once and that was it. I don't even like to smell it on people around me.
Too much, too heavy and too much fuss about it. I really don't get the appeal on this one.

but hey, if you like it, then good news. it lasts about 458459 hours on your skin.

When sprayed on it smells a bit messy to be hounest.
I get much mint mixed with alot other ingredients.
But when it settles down, it slowly turns into something beautiful.
Getting a great mix of mint lavender and vanilla, thats what i detect.
But i own a bottle that i bought for like 5 years ago.
I do not know exactly from what year it is.
But that was lasting and lasting.
For sure did get 10-12 hours.
The juice in it looks a bit Green.
But now i recently bought a new one, to not run out of this magic juice.
But this juice looks transparant, and i don't get the longevity anymore. now only half of the longevity of the juice what i got in the old bottle.
So, i think its reformulated or watered down.
I Bought it at an official perfumestore so it must be a real one.
This is really bad. so they ruined the magic juice.
It's too much about money nowadays. :-(

Ok, so this cologne has been around for a long time, and yes, some may see it as highly divisive; I don't, but that is how this juggernaut of a scent has come to be judged these days. With great popularity sometimes comes great criticism. So be it. I have loved this scent from the day I tried it, to now. It never fails to impress me, and I am even such a devotee (or is that such a fool?) for anything Le Male, that I collect the limited edition bottles. I don't have them all, but a lot of them, and I consider each bottle a work of art. Mass-produced art, but art nonetheless. :-)
This cologne is so well-balanced and composed, that it has no definite season - you could confidently wear Le Male all year round. That is its ultimate brilliance -the ability to defy time, weather and seasons. Such is its versatility and adaptability. There are not too many other fragrances you can say that about.

The last time i used this was back in 1997. Since then, i never came across of it again until yesterday....What a classic? Francis was only 23 was he composed this perfume but his inspiration was great and inovating. The symphony of notes is so exciting and alluring that touches you deep inside. The magnetic aura around the person who wears it is so attractive not only for the other sex but also for those of the same. Actually, this is the idea of the perfume and the commercial campaings are promoting it as well. For me, it is not a gay perfume but on the same time, not masculine either. It is a clean barbeshop, powdery and spicy perfume that plays with the emotions of the wearer and keeps you focused all the time. Longevity and sillage are above average. Thank god it is not widely used now so we can put it on the skin and bring back memories!
The sweet dry lavender with vanilla, tonka and basil gives a divine feeling to it without becoming sickly sweet or synthetic. The cinnamon is playing on the backround without becoming obvious but is only giving them a little "spice" just to help them show up properly. The powedery feeling is not an old man's or baby powder but a dry talcum barbeshop powder what brings in mind brushed shaven gentlemen. Sometimes it gives you the feeling of entering a small old barbershop around the corner, with their talcums and old type colognes like 4711. You smell the vintage aura but on the same time, somethinfg very futuristic. This perfume, the compo of this perfume is, it was and it will be the greatest vanilla/tonka/lavender compo of all time. Its release back in 1995 was something groundbraking that hit all ages and men of types. Kids, teenagers, professionals, singles, married, old, zingolos, with all and everywhere was le male. It is a perfumes that stimulates the brain, touched the heart, fulfills the stomach and wakes up emotions. Crowd, this is it, Le Male! Tip you hat!!

This is quite gourmand for a man with all the vanilla, caraway and cardamom. Reminds me of chai tea a bit, but there's a "cool" feeling from the mint that adds something interesting. This is one of the few perfumes that I like lavender in. For me it gets too sharp when paired with citruses, but it's quite nice with the tonka/vanilla/warm spice vibe Le Male has.
Overall it's not a bad fragrance, but it's a bit too sweet for my taste. It's also kind of played out and for many probably has the association of douchey guys with gelled hair and white jeans that work at Sunglass Hut.

This is one of the most distinct male perfumes ever made which divides the masses by the excellent nose of Francis Kurkdjian.

When you first spray it on your nose will be hit by very strong and synthetic blast of mint, lavender and vanilla/tonka combo. For me it is not a bad thing as I enjoy breathing in deeply after freshly spraying as it gives me a very cooling sensation.

After a while the mint and lavender subdue and slightly spicy vanilla/tonka takes the centre stage. This stays pretty linear until the end of the life of the fragrance. Orange blossom and woods can be detected very faintly for most of the time.

Performance is excellent; longevity is about 10 hours, projection and silage is very good. I use this during colder weather and usually spray 3 times max. As far as versatility goes I use it during the day and night but would NOT wear it on date because you run a risk of smelling like an ex-boyfriend.

This leads onto one of the bad points of Le Male which is its popularity therefore it's prone to bad associations more so than less popular perfumes. Additionally some men might find it too feminine or powdery for their liking.

Overall I really like it and keeping rocking it. I don't care if it's been done to death.

Le Male did not always have my affections. To be honest, the first couple times I smelled it, I was unimpressed because it seemed weak. However, that all changed when my friend got this one for me as a gift.

Opening: Creamy. How else can I really describe it? Sort of this minty, vanilla, cinnamon fresh smell. Subtle.

Sillage: I guess I must be late to the game (if they changed the formulation) because this one isn't a monster on me. Its just like a gentle halo of deliciousness floating around me. 1-3 ft for 1-3 hrs.

Longevity: Meh. But its great because it changes over its whole lifespan, to more of a woody vanilla smell. 3-4 hours.

Gripes: Do wish for more longevity so I can keep its wonderful aroma around me. Kind of irritates my skin, maybe just me, but its reasonable. Can be pricey.

Best for: Wow, you could wear this one almost anywhere. The mint really gives it a sweet diversity. I would say this is a fantastic day wear for spring or summer. Fresh and sweet.

Overall: JPG had a rags to riches story for me. I wrote it off as too weak, too old school, strange advertising etc. But the love came when I started wearing it daily, and noticing how people leaned in to smell me. Its like a minty, spicy, vanilla cocktail; rich and complex. I think LM has been the impetus for other cologne designers to step up their game, and I adore its innovation, still ahead of its time.

To me it smells alright. Heavy vanilla and mint. Not the food type of vanilla though. It smells more like the vanilla thats in makeup and stuff. Very synthetic. I guess it is a pleasant smell. I definitely wouldn't say it smells bad. It becomes much more enjoyable in the dry down were the mint fades and the vanilla gets richer.

Versatility 6.5/10 This is made to be a date and night out scent. Rightfully so, however you CAN use this in the daytime. I for one have worn it to school. Although it does feel a bit out of place it didn't cause any problems. Winter and cooler spring/fall days. Summers a definite no go for le male.

Projection: 10/10 Total beast mode. People on the other side of the hallway could smell me. Depending on how and where your planning to where this be careful with the trigger.

Longevity 10/10 Insane. If I didn't shower I think this might last a week. Annoying almost.

Overall: 7/10 The only reason I wear this is for the compliments. Girls LOVE this shit. Definite lady killer. That being said, people who don't like it, don't like it. I had some people come up to me saying I smelled like toilet paper. lol. Not my favorite but it does its job.

I'm beginning to think that the only reason this is popular is because of the shape of the bottle. That's the only reason why I tested it. I was sooo so so disappointed. This is on my list of worst smelling frags. It's smells like a cheap chocolate drugstore deodorant. It's too soft and almost minty. Smells like the inside of an old man's pocket. I'm getting Brach's peppermint candies and lint. Not fresh, citrusy sporty or interesting. At first, I though I was being punk'd at the mall. I didn't believe it was that bad.

Le Male is the only aftershave I own that I have trouble wearing. I have to be in the right frame of mind to appreciate its lingering powdery effect.
Under no circumstances will I ever put it on in hot weather, because the scent is blighted upon the first spray becoming extremely unpleasant.
I loved it at first and did not buy it on a whim, but nowadays the powder notes are becoming tedious.

Love it, or hate it, either way JPG Le Male is an undeniable classic in the world of men's fragrances. I've worn it on and off since my freshman year of college, and I never really smell it too much on myself, and when I do I don't really care for it up close. That being said, this is all about the projection. The trail JPG leaves behind is full of sex appeal, like it or not, this is always a hit with the fairer sex. Throw your bias aside, spray on some Le male, and go for a night out. I am 100% sure you will get some compliments. JPG is your wing man, he gets the conversation started, you do the rest.

funny how people say this perfume is very strong and lasts all day on the skin. Well then you will know that the scent was reformulated, love this perfume, but for collectors, should know that the perfumes were designed to be used every day, and not to be on the shelves. Yes the scent is weaker, but still a wonderful fragrance, we will have to reapply 2 times a day, but I love this smell. le male, may be weaker, but still an excellent fragrance, in fact the idea is that the scents are to consume every day, not to have for collection. is just my opinion.

It seems to me Le Male is a love/hate fragrance. Some reviewer wrote it is a gay fragrance. I can only disagree with them. It has a very sweet vanilla smell. It is not the usual "manly" scent, but calling it gay is ridiculous. The opening is very sharp, but it smoothens after 20 minutes or so. wwhen not over applied,it can be a subtle scent. The projection and the longevity is great. My nose says it is a great fragrance.

I started off not liking this fragrance, then I wore it a 2nd time,I don't like how strong the mint is the initial spray, but once it calms down a bit,you get a creamy vanilla edible smell to you,I just wanna bite myself.

Very strong, intense, beautiful fragrance. Lasts ages on my skin, it's very sweet, powdery, very distinctive. A true Classic, i love it. It's very musky, balanced with the sweetness of vanilla. 5/5

I did not like this scent very much, it does not smell bad by no means but like some say its a tad overrated. I would not recommend a blind buy of this, smell it, try it but remember everyones skin and taste is different. I'll try to go back to it in the future and give it another go..

Yesterday I received my bottle from the official Jean Paul Gaultier webshop. Now I know for sure: Le Male is definitely reformulated.

I have 3 bottles of Le Male and they all are very weak fragrances. Bought the oldest one a couple of years ago in Holland. Nothing like the Le Male I bought in the mid nineties. BTW, I know for sure that all are genuine fragrances. Checked the bottles, the codes etc.

I love the original Le Male. It's strong, has longevity and projection, is sexy, vibrant, animalistic, dirty, YES porn in a bottle!

The new reformulated Le Male is very very weak compared to its original. I can easily spray 10 sprays and still it's close to the skin. Even on clothes it won't last at all. The new Le Male is also much more synthetic, more soapy. It doesn't have the dry-down it used to have. Now it's more sugary vanilla. I miss the 'dirty porn' vibrant dry-down it used to have.

Where can I buy the old Le Male that has the positive reviews?!

Le Male is a classic. One of the first mass marketed vanilla dominated scents for men. It is very easy to review this one. It honestly, smells like porn in a bottle. It is VERY sexy. You will turn women's/girls heads with this one. Women of all ages like it. It does it's job and more. And you'll enjoy the way you smell in the process. Although if you don't like vanilla this definitely a no go. It opens up with a simple blast of synthetic mint, lavender and talc powder. The vanilla in the opening almost has like a hard to explain syrupy quality. The mint and lavender go away, and the spices (cumin and nutmeg) dirty it up to prevent it from smelling too unisex. The dry down smells like a french vanilla candle. And that's it. Very simple, but very awesome fragrance. 9/10.

Le Male is great. It's loud, whorey, sleazy, instantly recognizable, and extremely girly. It's truly one of the epochal perfumes of the 90's next to CK One. Smells like a powdery Red-Hot candy and cuts through everything else in the room. It has a sense of humor, and I can't really imagine pairing it with formal wear. Its wearers tend to be "signature scent" type people that have only one perfume. 17 years after its launch gay bars STILL all smell like it, and gay men STILL all wear it. If you'd like something similar but better since no one wears it try the delightful Ma Dame.

Got this one as a gift from a girlfriend a couple of years ago, and when we broke up I gave it away. Not because it reminded me of her, but because I hate this juice.
This issue is that I don't like lavender, I don't like vanilla, and I don't like overly sweet fragrances. The mint smells fine but there's too much lavender for me to enjoy the top. After that fades it becomes a overwhelmingly sweet vanilla spicy smell that hits you like a Mike Tyson uppercut. It reminds me of a cheap vanilla candle you'd buy at a gas station or something. To make things even worse this stuff just won't go away, longevity is off the charts.
I can't deny that women like this stuff, but I really can't stand it.

Looking at the notes, by all accounts, I should love this.....as a women's perfume!!!

I bought this for my son last year when he turned 16 and I figured he might like a cologne. It sat on his dresser until we threw it out, about a year later.

Even I tried it and found it too feminine, too girly, nothing masculine about it at all. For those women out there that say this drives them crazy and makes them go silly.....maybe it's becuase you like it for yourself? I can totally see a woman wearing this cologne and finding it to be sexy. But on a guy????? Heck no. My cousin won't even wear this stuff and he wears makeup and a skirt!

I bought this blind after reading so many reviews on it.

It smells stale and metallic with a hint of lemon and mint when you first spray it on. It has an odd, fresh kind of smell that I just can't seem isolate a specific note. I'll put it down as another unique scent.

** Update ** I've REALLY tried to like this stuff and just can't. I know it gets a lot of positive reviews but I've grown to find the smell very unpleasant. Not for me.

After joining this perfume reviewing website, I wanted to know how you guys felt about JPG le male, a perfume normally ignored by me and did not smell due to that ugly shaped bottle that did not appeal to me. To my surprise most of the reviews were positive and most agrees on how sexy this perfume is. So, definitely I had to try it. But once I did, it did not live up to my expectations. It's nice, I liked it, but that's it! On me it felt like a generic perfume and_CALL ME DILUSIONAL_it felt too girly to my taste with all that vanilla. I also got a slight leathery aroma that brought it back a little to the "FOR MEN" nature.

It is not bad, it's just not for me! It has amazing longevity that extend the 12 hours. Very long lasting indeed!

Thought long and hard about getting this, but I finally got it last month.

I really enjoy this scent. It comes off as strongly sweet to me, and I love that. The lavender, mint and vanilla notes stand above the rest, and it hits me right away. As it dries I start to smell a mellow waft of cinnamon, transforming into a spicy-sweet smell. No doubt that this smell is powdery, kinda like baby powder, but i don't really mind it.

I think this scent is masculine indeed, but women can wear this and totally get away with it. Guys and girls who enjoy sweet aromas love this, my coworker instantly recognized this fragrance, saying that she loves it and she even buys it for her boyfriend. Not many people around my hometown seem to own this cologne, which is good news for me cause I can wear it as much as I want!

I don't care that people say this cologne is overworn. If you like something, you should have the freedom to wear it.

As for me this has got that barber shop feel to it,it sure has a massive cult following and sure it is a nice EDT but i feel it dint mix well with my skin & i ended giving it to a professor, i did purchase it on first application but never fell in love with it ,on the contrary i rather prefer the opening of this scent after a while it gets a little monotonous and a lil cloying for me , it surely is a well made scent and smells great but as far as im concerned id pass on this Gaultier creation but if you end up liking this creation you're very lucky as the projection and longevity are top notch on this beast.I wont miss it as i seem to smell this outside often on others

An interesting scent: it has the herbal cleanliness of lavender combined with the freshness of mint leaves, the sweetness of vanilla and a hint of spice, along with other, more subdued, notes.

As it has sort of a deodorant soap (the note of lavender) and breath freshener / peppermint candy (the notes of mint & vanilla) effect, this fragrance, for me, evokes the image of a man who puts thought into his personal hygiene and grooming.

Como descrever Le Male? Bom, tudo que sei é que o perfume entrou para o hall dos clássicos. Um sucesso mundial e um fenômeno de popularidade.
Eu o acho bastante curioso:
É romântico, mas não um romântico declarado;
É O CHEIRO DO AMOR

The main theme is very similar to lots o other curent oriental scents for men. I find it very similar to 212 Sexy and to Jaipur, minus the cardamom. Jaipur is spicier and harsher and feels deeper to me. I do like Jaipur better, but I also like Le mâle very much. Oriental fragrances are actually my favorite amongst male scents, and I do like this theme, but its recurrence in perfumery today makes me wonder what is so so special about it and my answer really is that fashion and trend do play here the main role. Also, this theme to me, as I find it in lots of fragrances of this type, has very little to do with the natural scent of the composition as advertised. What they call cinnamon and vanilla here is most probably some synthetical compound or compounds which have nothing to do with the scent of the natural ingredients, being an artificial replacement concept of synthetical perfumery and I mean the same in relation to lots of other similar fragrances. I do find the scent interesting and actually do like it very much, but would probably not think much of it were it not made so common by trend.

Long lasting, but that is about it. Very one dimensional, too sweet. Only bought this some years ago as it was popular and wanted to see what all the hype was. To me, it was just that. Very cheap smelling, easy to overspray on this one. Never liked this much at all. My bottle is covered with about 3 inches of dust if that tells you anything!

CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME

After reading online that Le MAle has been voted to be 'VERY LONG LASTING' and the sillage being 'HEAVY'

I went to Boots and applied just two sprays on my neck and wow it was totally strong and very long lasting, I went the entire day from 10am all the way till 9pm still smelling it nice and clearly, so I went back to boots and bought a 40ML bottle, but the tester one I tried was 100ML

1 week I've had this 40ML bottle, and the fragrance isn't lasting even 1 hour, it's dying out so quickly I dont know what the hells wrong, I'm thinking have I wasted my money or something and I know they dont have EDP testers. Yet I know everyone else is saying it's very long lasting yet every time I spray, I can only smell for 1 hour max. But when I tried the tester it was strong for 11 hours.

??????

it cant be because of the 40ML bottle..... can it?

This fragrance (Le Male) is in the same category as Chergui and Givenchy Pi: baby wipes.

When reviewing a fragrance, it is best to cast aside personal preference and try to rate the fragrance objectively. The cardamom, caraway, and cinnamon add depth and warmth, while the vanilla and tonka bean turn the whole thing into a delicious baked treat. I’m having a tough time picking up on the mint. The lavender adds a masculine nuance, but in the end it’s all about a baby’s rear end.

Here’s the breakdown:
Le Male: baby wipes + spices 3.5/5
Chergui: baby wipes + hay and tobacco 3/5
Pi: baby wipes + baby wipes + vanilla 2/5

ts one thing to associate scents to places and things , but to people, lets be honest its discriminatory, here"s a reality check on gender and age bias and hate, I honestly find scent associations with older younger people biased and ridiculously moronic, there i said it, "Ive seen it a lot here and i"ve had it with the bullsh.. What ,wear fruity you"ll smell young wear vetiver you smell old? i call bullsh..., Stupid perceptions and associations lead to stupid biases and prejudices and moronic people. Lets make one thing clear, without soap everyone stinks and reeks, whether your 6yo or 60yo don't wash and you"ll reek regardless of age , just because your grand mother or grand dad or older chap wore bad cocktail frags you didn't enjoy don't mean you smell like an older person if you wear it, if you wear a bad frag you'll smell like a bad frag and thats it, not a teen, nor a grand mother or whatnot. you"ve read the logic now spread the bloody word .

I absolutely love this mens cologne! I don't like most colognes, but honestly almost any guy can pull this off. The trick to it.. is to spray it on your skin and after an hour the real scent will appear & it lasts a fair amount of time. The bottle should last a long time because it only takes a few squirts. When u spray this smell on a paper or even immediately after spraying it smells disgusting! So make sure to give it a chance! Guys love it too!!

My boyfriend gave this perfume to me as he got it through his job. At first I was put off by the harsh and masculine appearance bottle. I was expecting a harsh manly smell. But now I wear it and I love it, even though it's for men. I can't resist. I actually think it smells more unisex than anything. it's just the bottle looks really manly. The scent lasts ages on skin and on clothes, now even my bed smells like "le male". The thing is I don't like the bottle, the body shape is really weird, and for a male, the backside is too big and kind of sticks out too much. the whole shape I really dislike.

This is a great cologne. A compliment getter, all the great things you like in a cologne are right here in this cologne. But...this cologne is uber popular. I can guarantee that out of 10 guys in the office, at least 3-4 of them have this in there collection. Now thats great for Le male, but for the wearer beware! I can guarantee you that every woman you encounter, will say "You smell so familiar? What is that youre wearing?" Reason being....she has dealt with a man prior to you that had this same scent. Now if you want to smell like her ex boyfriend...by all means, go and pick this up. My first time in Fragrantica I was surprised with some of the reviews of Le Male. Those days I used to love this fragrance. With time and trying some other perfumes and this one, I can tell now that Le Male has something synthetic I don't quite like. This doesn’t happen all the time, maybe my own chemistry is involved. Anyway, I still like it for a cold night, or an open air occasion. And yes, some girls really like this one, but for me, it's not a first date fragrance anymore. I really like the end of this one...
***

VANILLA BOMB!!!

So whats there to say about this 1 that hasn't been said? Not Much anyway...I just had to get this Gem of a fragrance. Growing up in middle school i used my brothers Cuba gold all the time it just smelled so sweet and elegant, idk lol thats just how i pictured it at the time. A few years later after wearing Eternity and Hugo(again my brothers haha) i found out Cuba gold was a "knock off" of JPG, it had been years since i had smelled cuba gold so i figured why not give this "JPG" a try.

So i purchased a bottle, initially i was thinking "what the heck is this?". I smelled traces of cuba gold but nothing too similar. Than about an hour into it i start smelling something familiar ,i start sniffing my wrist And Wow it smelled just how i remembered cuba gold smelling like but much better...

Anyway now that i own a few more bottles this stuff smells somewhat dated it just brings back a lot of fond memories, and its no longer my favorite :( haha...Nevertheless i still LOVE the smell once it settles down after about an 1hr into it. It just starts off too strong thats my only Knock on it. But as stated this is Either a Love or hate fragrance.

Three words To describe this VANILLA, VANILLA, SEXY....Not the best Vanilla scent but its not Ever so popular for NO reason!

I'm working on my 3rd bottle and it's 25% full. I use to adore this fragrance but now that I have so many other references to choose from . . . my high opinions of Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male has receded.

Le Male is far from a terrible fragrance, but, again, I know more and have experienced other note combinations in other fragrances.

Unfortunately, I will never replace Le Male when the bottle runs dry. However, it is a good choice for any individual that's just starting to get into fragrances.

It is not revolutionery what I am about to say but usually men don't like this fragrance but women just love it.In a reaserch they did in UK it was found that Le Male is the sexiest fragrance in England .Though in the US they find Armani's Acqua Di Gio the most sexiest best seller.Back to Le MALE - the fragrance is well made, very interesting and masculine in its way.It made kind of breakthrough in a world of fragrances and after more than 17 years since it was launched, you can consider this one as classic.
Sandalwood, tonkabean, amber, cedar and vanilla kept perfectly togather, caraway and cinnamon spice it a little, lavender, bergamot and mint complete the picture.
Personally it took me a while to like this fragrance because I was used to other fragrances like DRAKKAR NOIR and POLO RL,so not everyone will like it at first. It's like a gourmet-you have to understand what you are eating.
Also due to reformulations, this fragrance haven't changed to much like many other fragrances.

Le Male is a hate-crime! It's like Francis Kurkdijan had all the nice ingredients on hand - vanilla, lavender, sandalwood, what have you. And while mixing them, he accidentally added Chemical X and all the ingredients took shape of monsters gone berserk!

It may not be a popular opinion, but this is a disgusting and contrived concoction, which does more harm to the people around than the person wearing itself.

I better stop here!

I believe that the Festrunk Brothers would have happily doused their hairy chests and gold chains with this stuff while cruising for chicks in Fox Bar.

Honestly - this smells like the nexus between imitation vanilla extract and a can of Raid.

I think the stripes on the torso represent prison stripes, as Jean Paul Gaultier is doubtless wanted by Interpol on three continents for international nose rape.

I actually own a bottle, because there's no accounting for what someone ELSE will gift you with.

Do I want to swap or sell it? No way! Much as I would also not want to part with the wreckage of The Hindenburg if I owned that.

A year ago, I wouldn't have even thought of buying such a fragrance. I am opening up to new ideals. Le Male is something I have been pondering over getting for the last few months and finally saw it at Nordstrom rack and it was semi-affordable so I grabbed it. I immediately sprayed it on in the car and thought, this is just another versace blue jeans type fragrance, and although it has it's similarities (lavender, and vanilla), Le male breaks away from it in the drydown. This stuff is very fresh herbal, and vanilla in the drydown. It's really very pleasant and people, not just women, like it. It's a very comforting smell. The longevity is outstanding, it's still on my clothes from 24 hours ago and the sillage/projection is very good too. Overall, if you like herbal or vanilla scents, it's a must have. Could very easily be a signature for some.

Wow, all I can think of is that you might of gotten yourself a fake Neyzen??? Where did you get your 'Le Male' from?? Because the smell that your describing sounds like a fake, that is how some fakes smell. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe your spraying way too much? E.g 10-12 sprays. There is no way Le Male smells like what your describing, cheers.

To be honest, girls like this smell..
However when I smell it, I can only feel a strong urine taste! It is just like the smell of a common toilet used by people consuming too much alcohol..

We all know this is very powdery, and this was a boom when it was released and still very popular.....Which is quite odd, because LE MALE is not what you get when you spray this on. I got the biggest bottle and well, I used to spray it on my carpets , far from my nose, cuz i couldnt stand the nausea. but later, i gave it to my sister. A LOT of women dig this thing. Maybe it's just an escape from the traditional masculine scents, that kinda reminds us of our grandpas, an alternative to avoid the wood and tobacco. This is one that you will encounter sooner or later in your life, and if you go for it, I hope it suits you well, because most people smell like fake plastic flowers when they wear it.

I agree! This one has Monster projection and longevity. But i don't really like the smells...it smells like women's body lotion that you can get in every supermarket.

Maybe at that time, year 1995 (when Le Male was launched), that was rare the smells like this. But now in 2012 a lot of women's fragarance smells like this.

So..can you imagine how's horrible when you wear common scent for the long time??? Plus A+ projection??? SKIP IMO

Really the only reason why I have this bottle is it's popularity and how it looks in my collection. VERY synthetic, very powerful, and last DAYZ!!! Now, lasting long and projecting well is good if the scent is good. TOO ME, No. Why? I get 2 things mint and vanilla. Once the mint goes away on my skin the smell is OK, average, nothing mind blowing, inviting. Though, It's the mint that starts the fragrance out. The smell to me is something close to Raid Bug Spray! No joke! Girlfriend always liked it but being 5 years older and her fresh out of High school at the time I don't think 20$+ fragrances were something common for her. Just too popular. End up smelling like somebody's ex.

I don't understand the popularity at all. The sweet vanilla? Fine, but there's a very unpleasant, synthetic, plasticky note in there that makes me uncomfortable (is it the lavender, mint or combination of both?). In The Dreamer, this note calms down and sits comfortably with the whole fresh linen feel.. but in Le Male it kind of clashes with the warm sweetness the whole way through.

To the lovers... One spray, max two. I BEG YOU.

Powerful and charming scent, no doubt (I can see why women love it). Too bad it's overused and hyped. If this scent was a niche it could stand up to it's mystical and oriental feel.

This is probably one of the most used fragrance by men ever. You can't walk by the streets and not smell this on a man. In a packed room, people will be more likely to point out that you are wearing Le Male than other fragrances worn. Yes, it is that popular and it stands out well.

Women seem to like this and you will get compliments. Since it is so potent, it is advisable not to use more than 3 full-sprays; especially in the hot humid weather as it can get cloying. 1 spray to the chest and 1 to the neck are enough most of the time. Not really too sure about how the other flankers smell like but if you intend to get one, get the original. A must-have if you're a fragrance collector. This is also an ideal fragrance to wear in office but be mindful about the number of sprays you do as you do not want to be known as the guy-who-wears-too-much-perfume.

I love Le Male, Jean Paul Gaultier is always very creative, outgoing and Contemporary, and I think has a big influence not only in their perfumes, but also in clothing of he makes ... Le Male, is a Perfume: Fresh / Sweet and somehow is balanced to perfection combining: The sweet and sexy vanilla, The Sophisticated Lavender, the fresh note of mint, and spice notes of: Cinnamon and of Tonka bean. This is a fragrance Sexy and Young. and I heard of the girls love this perfume in the men they think it is "Sexy". I highly recommend them.
When this is applied is strongly perceived lavender, but over a few seconds the fragrance will become a more sexy as the vanilla becomes the predominant note, and the lavender top note is still perceived, also can smell the ephemeral and persistent note of mint, accompanied by the warm and specious note of cinnamon, and just after perceiving the cinnamon,  is noted the sweet and playful note of Tonka bean, and the notes of exit can vaguely perceive: neroli, rosemary, Cardamom, and a subtle woody note. In conclucion fragrance Le Male, is a sexy, longevity and lovely worth ..

There's a TON of vanilla and lavender, with a bit of spiciness from the other notes. "Strong & sweet" is definitely an apt description. When you wear it, people certainly will take notice (for good and bad), it's just so dominating.

I can't imagine what it would be like if two people would be in the same room, both wearing Le Male. :)

The advertising and the bottle gave it a very gay vibe, in my opinion, but maybe that's just me. Like others said, you certainly have to be a certain type of "le male" to be able to pull it off. Then again, who -wouldn't- love a bottle like that...and the canister it comes in.

This is my second review of JPG “Le Male” which I am writing as this fragrance deserves another comment after I have actually bought the stuff. As previously stated, my last experience with this was back in 1999. I stayed away from it all this time as I felt that the memories of that era were already established in my perfume memory bank and I could not re visit it. Man I was so wrong!

Since my entrance into the world of perfumery two months ago I have tested dozens of the “main stream” men’s perfumes and I have acquired a nice little wardrobe with some of my favourites. I am passionate about my little hobby and I try to be objective in my reviews. I will keep this short and sweet.

Out of every men’s fragrance on the shelves, in my opinion this is by far the BEST in terms of scent, projection, sillage and longevity. I don’t care how “synthetic” it is, how overly “popular” it is, I simply have to have a bottle in my wardrobe to behold magnificence.

I sometimes crave a bolshie fragrance, one that can make a statement, one that I can know with confidence will remain on my skin for at least ten hours, a perfume that will elicit a positive reaction. Le Male delivers superbly in all these avenues.

JPG “Le Male” is in my opinion the best men’s perfume in its price range and its genre. I have only one word to fully describe it and that is; ORGASMIC!

UPDATE:

After three months I have something to add. This is NOT the same as the one that was released in 1995. If you are familiar with Le Male when it first came out, you will agree that this is a little watered down.

Hola a todos los FraganticaFans Hispanos! :)

A woman's perspective is that Le Male is risky. Your chemistry has to be just right, as other reviewers have implied. To my nose, what presents a potential problem has something to do with the lavendar, bergamot, caraway and mint notes clashing with the cardamom. I can't quite figure out which, but one of them should probably go.
Kudos to the men for whom it creates magic, and know you are special.

The bottle says that it's an edt!!!well,to be quite honest it can compete with any edp in the market.I am surprised by its tenacity. It goes on and on.Is it unique??A big NO,but it is a pleasant smelling scent and should be worn sparingly because it is a beast. Some scents behave in a very shy manner, hiding in the background and making its presence felt now and then. Some scents behave like a naughty guy trying to grab attention.they are very extrovert and in this context Le Male is naughty and extrovert. It demands attention. It was made solely for the purpose of attracting the ladies coz generally ladies like sweet scents and Le Male successfully does it.The scent is not complicated and relies on simplicity with a prominent mint note and vanilla all the way.You can detect spices but it is in the background behaving like a shy child fearing the presence of vanilla because the vanilla overpowers everyone.
Do I like it...Yes and no because my mind says there are many scents similar to this one but my heart says that no one can beat the tenacity and attractiveness associated with this scent.
People will always ask what are you wearing but its popularity has been diluted by many cheap similar smelling scents, none the less it is a survivor and it has carved the way for other sweet smelling scents.
Lastly, the best occasion to wear this is when you are in a casual atmosphere surrounded by people because it grabs attention so beware if you wear it in the office.
Final rating-6/10 because of its tenacity and pleasant smelling scent. Not unique but good.It just made the cut from being average.

Gorgeous bottle design - maybe because an ex wore this or maybe because I smelt this on just too many guys when it came out (everyone seemed to be wearing it), it never truly floated my boat.
It's warm and rather endearing, quite a cosy drydown, maybe it's just not quite my cup of tea for some reason, feels more like a brother than a lover, if that makes sense?
Very vanilla heavy and beautifully created, gorgeous to get an occasional passing whiff of but there are others I prefer when it comes to men's fragrances...

There's a reason Le Male has the status that it does. This is mature and very captivating--it has a mysterious sex appeal. Awesome union of lavender, cardamom and mint, rounded with a cast of vanilla, a hint of cinnamon, and sandalwood. A classic indeed, and in my opinion, a much better classic than colognes like Acqua di Gio or CK Eternity. Much more masculine.

Opens with lavender, mint and vanilla and dries down to a sweeter, woodier accord. One to two sprays is good enough, it can get overpowering if overdone; you don't want to be one of /those/ guys.

Longevity is pretty good and does project. Every time I go to the store I head for this one just to get that whiff. The bottle is killer marketing, leave it to JPG to make a bottle like that. There are a few fragrances like it that have come both before and after it but they never quite compare. The only true successor to Le Male is 1 Million by Paco Robanne.

I have loved Le Male since it came out. If I could wear it I would but it doesn't suit my chemistry. My husband has it and it smells gorgeous on him, vanilla, lavender, mint, cinnamon and the rest. After awhile it's a soft deep smell, he smells soooo gooood.

I can't understand it...I have read reviews that says...I can't wear it because so many others doo...well if that is the case we can't wear any perfume at all.
Wear it if you like it, and after all it doesn't smell exactly the same on everyone...

This scent is iconic in my opinion. I remember when it first got my attention in 1999 when I found it absolutely intoxicating. I wanted to try it because I was told it could easily be unisex. Wow, I was shocked how sweet it was. I could barely smell the top notes of lavender and bergamot which disappear in minutes and you are left with very sweet vanilla sandalwood scent with just a hint of masculinity (I assume from cedarwood).
its definitely not a typical men’s cologne. I am sure some guys can get away with it, but I don’t think I would like it on the guy since I prefer more masculine, fresh or woodsy scents on men.
Incidentally, I had two women at work smell it and both thought it was women’s perfume. I also had my DH sniff my wrist and asked him if this smelled like men’s cologne. He gave me a puzzled look and said “not at all”. I told him it was Le Male and he said it was way too sweet for a guy to wear.
I guess it amounts to personal preference so try before you buy it. I would love to get myself a bottle and lasting power is very good on this one. One small spray on my hand lasted for at least 4 hours and my coworker said she could smell it as I walked by. So word of caution-this is not a scent you want to overspray because you will suffocate everyone around.

At first I didn't like this but grew to love it in my 20s. It served me well for a while. Now my mid-30s nose doesn't appreciate it anywhere near as much.
It is quite sweet, verges on too sweet and too powdery but settles and becomes a little more masculine. In my eyes this is NOT a classic and NOT the "lady-killer" others claim - many hate it. It seems both women and men either really like or really dislike this one.

As I get older and more into fragrances I am not using this very often and am less and less likely to reach for this ahead of other scents. It seems too young and too sweet now. Some of the other scents I had at that time have stood the test of time and stayed firm favourites but I'm not sure I'll ever finish my current bottle of Le Male.

If you like the smell it is quite good value - a bottle will last ages - you don't need to use much at all. Quite potent and if over-sprayed (any more than 2 SPRAYS MAXIMUM) it can be very cloying and unpleasant, verging on unbearable.

This is one of the best fragrances for longevity and projection I have found. With 2 sprays it is strong on my skin for 12+ hours and still detectable 20+ hours after application. Very strong projection early on for 6-8 hours and still projects quite strongly for 10-12 hours or more.

If you don't like strong, sweet or powdery scents, or lavender or vanilla then steer clear of this one. Otherwise it is worth a test - especially if you struggle to find something that lasts on your skin.

I think my days of using JPG Le Male are now pretty much over - it was nice while it lasted.

I have a love hate relationship with this cologne. It reminds me of an acquaintance who is no longer in my life from days when I partied hard until the sun rose - 1999. When I first smelled it back then I thought it was "heavenly".

To many Le Male may be too strong and overbearing, however it has one of the best scents, sillage and longevity I can possibly imagine in any men’s perfume. It is not no 15 on the USA top 100 best seller list for nothing and seems to have survived a solid 17 years on shelves here in South Africa.

If you enjoy fragrance in the Oriental Fougere genre, there is a good chance you may enjoy this can. However a test may also scare you with thoughts of, “Wow, too much in my face!”

I hate to compare, but personally, Caroline Herrera 212 Sexy is almost a clone of Le Male, but in an awesome, softer, citrus, more refined, modern way. So you can see the respect I have for Le Male. The scent itself is divine.

If the reviews on Fragrantica appeal to you, and you are toying with the idea of buying the turquoise man with the cut off arms in the silver can then go for it. But be cautioned; wear sparingly, as you may get mixed reactions at the office. I feel this is perfectly suited for a wild party or a night club.

In terms of LONGEVITY, this is right on top. In my never ending quest for a perfume with decent longevity I would buy it for this one reason. If you ever wanted to make a BIG perfume statement, Le Male is your stuff.

It's simply LOVELY!

Nothing wrong at all it's popular or "everybody wears it"...this simply show how amazing it is!

Plus, in fact it can never be exactly the same on everyone.

So, it will still unique to you! Just give it a try!

I remember the first time a dear friend of mine smelled it..
she said.."come on!..let's do it!!..righ now!!!"

Hahahahahah..she just loves it as do I.

Again..try it yourself!

I have only one word for this perfume : yuck. It makes me feel sick. My husband got one from a friend but I forbid him to use it! Of course he managed to drop it and since then our whole appartement has been stinking..I thought that maybe I would get used to the smell but not so far, it's still horrible!

I don't like this fragrance at all!
Start with huge blast of synthetic vanilla and the worst note in the world of fragrances, LAVENDER!
I hate lavender and lavender based fragrances.
This fragrance give me cleaner vibe!
We have a glass cleaner in our house that smell exactly like this fragrance!
Unfortunately the lavender linger through the whole fragrance life on your skin and I can't stand it!
I bought this fragrance blind and that was a big mistake!
Great longevity but average projection on my skin.
Completely waste of money!

Oh my God...I find this fragrance absolutely DELICIOUS!!! It also has a very nice and appealing (and also sexy) dry down, so it is perfect for the clubs and dates, especially in the night. It's more of a winter smell, but it can also be worn in the summer, at night. The projection, sillage and longetivity are great on this one, even on my skin (where many other fragrances fade after a couple of hours). This gragrance is in my top 3 - after Armani Code and before 212 Sexy Men. 10/10

Seriously? This is the lady killer that everyone talks about? Maybe they meant it literally then...
Jesus Christ, this scent is the strangest thing I ever smelled. Sure it was pretty original at the time of its launch, but in a bad way. I mean, it's like they've thrown the most synthetic notes of vanilla and mint and mixed them together with other ultra synthetic herbaceous notes. A mess, really.
It has killer projection and killer sillage. The scent is killer too, if you know what I mean.
If this synthetic mess is a 'sexual appeal' to the ladies, then maybe that's a very good sign that I'm perhaps way too masculine to even be neutral about this one.

In a word, Le Male is repulsive.

Le Male, in 2004 when I first smelt it on an old mate, was the intoxicating smell of man. It wreaked of confidence and had me wishing I could smell that fantastic!
It's been described by my uncle as a 'gay smell', while my gay brother described it as a '40yo man' smell. Where's the line? I can see the connection on both sides, but I think of it as a more 'vintage for the youth' kind of smell, while it is also, without a doubt, a French smell.
I did find, when I owned it, that the syntheticity increases as production continues, as an evident profit bearing market pushes Le Male into the discounted shelves for the original target crowd to stock up on.
In any case, it's a great smell for men in general, and when applied subtly more often throughout the day, it does the exact justice it's known for.

I don't get when people say "everybody is wearing it, so this is bad, so I don't like it, bla bla bla...".
When a designer create a fragrance, he expects that fragrance become POPULAR and SELL.
I really don't care how many people are wearing it.
If you want something "exclusive", go to a very obscure niche brand.

Le Male is AMAZING. Period.

Longevity, projection and silage is great. Smells very good and women love this smell...great clubbing fragrance.

The bad: if you do go out, expect someone else wearing this.

The good: with that scent with longevity and projection the price is great but then again that is also the reason why so many ppl wear this.

A fabulous creation for a fashion house that proved a formal education and background in fashion was not necessary to be accepted into the Parisian fashion elite. Jean Paul Gaultier endured a great deal of class chastisement on his ascent to fame in couture haut Paris for his tendency to lean heavily on shock value and marketing rather than substance. Gaultier worked his way up through a quick and voracious consumption of his influences, borrowing fantastically from a wide array of ideas and molding them into his own unique and profound vision that in its earliest days had a very timely and unique vision.
Le Male and the female equivalent that preceded it, Classique were personifications of his vision when Gaultier was still at the top of his game and showed initiative for creativity beyond simply supporting his cash cows with endless flankers lacking sincere desire to push any envelopes. The elements ultimately came together perfectly in Le Male, revitalizing the French fashion elite with a fresh dose of working-class ideas and new blood looking to democratize and expand the clientele base beyond just the higher income target audience.
Jean Paul Gaultier ultimately succeeded because it made clear a new direction in French fashion houses that had already been done in the USA and UK, targeting a broader base beyond the elite and upper middle-class, searching to bring in the middle and lower middle class, a market rarely given such attention in France before the 1990's.
Le Male is his one shining moment in the realm of masculine fragrances; owing a great deal to its packaging ingenuity. Heavily influenced by the commercial art of Andy Warhol, Gaultier chose to package his male torso in a tin can, a not so subtle tribute to Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup tin labels.
The juice itself is striking in its uniqueness at the time of release. Signing up Francis Kurkdijan was a stroke of brilliance and Kurkdijan did not let him down on either of his fist two groundbreaking releases for Gaultier; Classique et Le Male.
Le Male daringly attempts to balance vanilla, lavender, cinnamon, mint, amber and cardamom into a fragrance that doesn't smell overcrowded or overly ambitious and does it with a tremendous technical skill. Kurkdijan manages to find a striking balance throughout, never allowing the rather synthetic notes to come together as such, instead emitting a certain subdued loudness that is both daring and yet also somewhat reserved. The loudness and brashness of Le Male is more implied in the packaging than the juice, which is actually a powerhouse indebted greatly to the 1980's.
A blast of lavender, bergamot, cardamom, mint and artemisia kicks off Le Male and is actually quite subtle and well balanced. There is none of the shock and bravado implied by some of the reviewers. This is far more standard and technically balanced than most people would like to give it credit for.
Around the five minute mark the cinnamon starts to assert itself but is never overpowering. The orange blossom and caraway are both evident, but more to take a bit of the weight away from the strong natural tendencies of the cinnamon to dominate. Kurkdijan manages to find a tremendous balance, paving the way for the vanilla to find accord with cinnamon and lavender and dirtied up just enough by the cardamom and amber to give the impression of being somewhat natural despite the heavy synthetic implications of Le Male.
Masterfully constructed, a truly magnificent creation that is wonderful in fall, winter and spring and though not refined in the classic sense, has already achieved modern classic stature and has become rather timeless because of its well balanced nature and lack of floral pomp. This is neither overtly masculine nor feminine leaning, it achieves a wonderful universality so rarely accomplished in fragrance.
Longevity is outstanding, 10-12 hours is standard and 18 hours in colder weather is not unheard of. Projection is tremendous well into the seventh hour before things start to recede a bit, but Le Male manages to hang on to the skin better than most scents.
Becomes loud when the vanilla merges with the top and middle and this is what many object to, as the vanilla is certainly synthetic. Yet despite this it still manages to be very far from cloying in any respect.
If you are looking for a dirtier and more ambery version of this on a budget, I would suggest Cubano Gold by Victory International as an accompanying scent when you would prefer to best enjoy your Le Male in moderation, with a bit of variety but the same basic essence.
Overrated? Shockingly no. Despite its tremendous success, this is a wonderful commercial product that managed to find the perfect balance between packaging, marketing, quality and bravado.

I don't want to antagonize its admirers (as i am going to say a few negative things about it . . lol), so i'm going to try and make my review as brief as possible.

Le Male is TOO(extremely and odiously) sweet and synthetic for my taste. Its cloyingness is tormenting (in the same league as Joop! Homme)and its insane omnipresence bores me even more. This scent is not for me! I've tried liking it(i really have) but my persistence has yielded no positive outcome.

However, for those who might like this scent, let me say that both its Longevity and sillage are 10+/10 (which is why i used the word 'tormenting' to describe its cloyingness cos it just stays and stays). Don't ever buy this blind! You have been warned!

A lot of thumbs-downs headin my way i know (But it's just my honest opinion). No hard feelings i hope.

There was a time and countless places when this was THE scent I wore. It was so complimented - dressed up or down. However, as my tastes have refined over the years, I find that JPG Le Male is not as "amazing" as I remember it to be. I have found the synthetic qualities and bombastic opening to be less desired and the heavy vanilla on the base can be a touch strong (nearly cloying). However, this doesn't mean I won't wear it. I definitely will, but after years of discovering scents (and, yes, imitation is the best form of flattery), I find myself liking Jacomo de Jacomo Rouge for casual wear (which has nice spiciness mixed with the sweetness) and TL Pour Lui by Ted Lapidus (a beautiful vanilla-tinged aromatic scent with great mint & orange blossom and well-integrated wood, created by Maurice Roucel) to be superior to Le Male in distinct ways. I still have a strong affinity and affection for this scent and always will. It is part of my life and my olfactory memories. I bought a bottle in Paris in fact just for the romantic notion of doing so. To this day, I still receive compliments and although so many people went through wearing it, this fragrance has become a modern classic (I graduated college in 1995). A lot of people recognize it, but that doesn't mean it is not a very good scent. Personally, it lifts my spirits and creates a sensual atmosphere. A bottle of sexy juice that has (and will) stand the test of time although there are alternatives that I love next to it and reach for more consistently. My lust for this scent is gone, but I still give it a solid 7+/10 and recognize its place in the history of male fragrance. Undeniably, it was a marquis scent of my early to late 20's.

**Update** - a few recent wearings of a great, perfect condition, authentic bottle of Le Male layered with the brilliant After Shave lotion that comes in the light blue glass and is a splash, I have to say that I was brought back. It wears lighter and more airy with the lotion. Lighter application of EdT, but still a full-wearing - but the notes just waft beautifully. I actually even enjoy refreshing with just the A/S lotion in a decanted atomizer. It is very aromatic, mostly the fresh top and heart notes with a lighter sweetness - beautiful. I also have worn the excellent After Shave balm and found it to be one of the best true-to-scent A/S balms one can get in relation to the EdT/fragrance itself - layers perfectly.

For nostalgic sake, and because I got a lot of compliments (surprisingly)...this has like an old-flame from college that you kept in touch with and one day realize that you both grew up and moved on in life, but still have a wonderful connection! Updated score - 8+/10! We still have that "spark". Cheers.

This is the ultimate male fragrance. It is loved by all genders and ages. When I had it I got compliments from girls, boy and even... my mum.

If you buy this fragrance savour it and DO NOT over apply as you will regret it. I stuck to four sprays and found that to be ideal.

The smells will last a long time no matter where you spray it.

This would be ideal for a first date as it'll show you are sophisticated, take pride in your grooming and have excellent taste.

It is a popular scent. Many guys wears it. And many females loves it. I do see why, even though I think it is a bit overrated.

The scent goes pretty well with cigarette smoke or coffee. That will make it smell like a bastogne cookie.

Top notes of mint, mandarin orange, and lavender followed by what strikes me as a "clean linen" middle. Once dry this one is only powdery vanilla. A nice combination, but it tends to disappear on me rather quickly leaving only the faintest of vanilla. Once the top notes fade, Le Male is unremarkable. Not the best match for my chemistry.

Do yourself a favor and spray Le Male on one hand and Rochas Man (or Body Kouros) on the other. In comparison, Le Male smells like synthetic burnt sugar.

You have the options of Body Kouros and Rochas Man for other gourmands. Not only are they cheaper, but they exceed the quality that Le Male lacks.

A lavender bomb for sure. I love it at around the 4 hour mark to the end of it's longevity, which is about 14-16 hours on my skin. So if you going on a date in the winter time, shower/shit/shave in the morning, apply Le Male above your twig 'n berries, your chest and one on the neck, and by 6pm when your date starts you should be smelling like vanilla candy. Le Male is a staple in the world of perfume because it was very new then and set a new trend in male fragrances. Lavender and vanillic amber was not common! I found it very new, both fresh and warm, sensual and interesting compared to classic menscent.
JPG had a good intuition but he pushed too much on gaytype ads, the kind with muscle pumped sailors, quite boring! I bet that at that moment in time gay men were more conscious about fashion and JPG and I always thought that gay men are much more adventuros and they dare to try novelties, not caring about what could be considered too strange or feminine in the crowd. That's a plus. Le Male was not bad as feminine scent either. It was new, strong and women liked it a lot on their men! Anyway it then became so popular and so widespread and very common. Straight men were not scared anymore, instead they began to wear it constantly. I could smell it everywhere. Not a good thing. One of my ex only wore this one and it actually fitted his sexy attitude very well :-)
Now I think it is surpassed and a bit boring, because you can always tell when a man were Le Male or probably of its copycats. Not exciting anymore, no mistery.
All in all Le Male is not an elegant scent for gentlemen. Nothing to do with old evergreen Guerlains or Dior or even a good Acqua di Parma cologne.
It stays as a once-it-was-different scent, still pleasant somehow, but nothing spectacular.
Maybe it was never spectacular in itself. It smells very synthetical now and the neverending story of flankers destroyed its reputation.
Good as an example of revolutionary concept of men fragrance in a supertacky bottle. I wouldn't like to have it around now.

I love this. I was going to get it for my boyfriend for Christmas, but I think perhaps it is just TOO popular and too much of an obvious choice.

I can see why it's so popular though.

I also suspect my boyfriend would find the bottle "gay." *rolls eyes*

I sprayed some on my wrist today. At first, it was like lemon, and I got a strong smell of cedarwood. Now that it has settled it's lovely and soapy, with something that reminds me of burnt rubber. Sounds weird, but smells great.

Totally clean...

It's opening with lavander and mint. Other top notes are less obvious but adds a little bit sweetish.

Heart notes cinnamon and orange blossom, does not take too long time. Top and middle notes feels clean.

After a period of time, vanilla replaces the heart notes. It's so natural and delicious. Of course, Le Male is a full vanilla perfume. Also can be felt of woody notes in the background.

The only bad side, it's very popular. It will not be special for you...

When I first smelled this fragrance I liked the smell. It was very different and new. Then EVERYOINE started wearing it and I grew tired of it. Now all i saw was highschool kids wearing it and I am close to my 30's so I didnt care for it as much anymore and it was getting played out and I always tend to seek the unusual, different and hignend fragrances. I once was hanging out with friends and one of their friends being an older guy smelled very nice and I asked him what is that your wearing? He told me JPG and anymore I was taken a back. It smelled good on him and thought twice about knocking it down completely. And for that guy saying that he hates it, he is entitles to his opinion but doesnt have to be a baby about dt and replying to everyone who defends the cologne. If he so hates the bulge and bottles design, maybe he should question his man hood or sexuality. I bet gays don't make a big deal of the bottle being a mans body. The colognes scent and the purpose of the art direction of the bottle is supposed to catch attention,d represent masculinity and its ability to seduce women. Vanilla mixing to well with the other notes possibly being responsible. I believe that a guy with some problem of anything male erotica or makes a big deal about it is a guy who is in the closet trying to prove he is opposed of gays with machismo.

Please my friends, DON'T FEED THE TROLL!. Le Male maybe isn't in the same "classy or sofisticated" category as Creed or Lutens or Tom Ford fragrances, but hey!, it works perfectly. That "cheap" label that a lot of reviewers talk about maybe comes because a lot of fragrance brands try to copy the same structure of this scent, waiting to get the same selling rankings. So anyone you ask about the opinion on Le Male maybe smelled a lot of knock-offs (cuba gold, perry ellis 360 white, and so on) so now they are saturated with those "lavender-vanilla" combos. But Le Male always will be the first, the groundbreaking, the classic. Once I heard the quote "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery".

@himank09 I respect your opinion, but i tend to disagree with one thing you have said. Le male IS sophisticated and full of class. Its less versatile so it kinda tells you it has class. It projects and lasts longer then burberry london. Sure le male is mostly vanilla, but hey, if this cologne is one of the most complimented in the world, i wouldn't be complaining right? and about the bottle. You haven't seen anything like it. It chisels out the male bottle. What would you prefer? a rectangular bottle with a picture of a mans chest? i wouldn't think so.

First of all my humble apologies to all of the heck lot of le male lovers out there

now after reading all the reviews and watching all the videos on youtube,i was forced to blindbuy this fragrance.I came home delighted with the long awaited purchase, opened it,sprayed it and then "what the...

..."sorry for that, but that was exactly what happened...
there is a very cheap substandard shampoo in our country,,which some circumstances led me to use for a several times, and this cologne reminds of that, only the shampoo missed the vanilla...i don't hate it because it's smell kinda resembles that of the cheap shampoo but because it does smell disguting..

my description:
a cheap smelling, powdery, synthetic and a little feminine kind of a fragrance....

SYNTHETIC is the word to describe this fragrance

no doubt this thing's longevity and projection is inspiring, but whats the use of it if it smells so bad

7/10 despite all the contradiction above this good rating is just because of great projection and longevity

I really like this - on myself.

This is the only men's cologne that I as a woman have ever felt comfortable wearing. I had an intense lavender period last year, and this is one of the best lavender perfumes out there.

That being said, I do like it on some men too. It is, however, very sweet and can be a bit cloying.

I was leaving Rome the same day this was out, so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived in Athens this perfume was a complete stranger so I can safely say I was the first Greek to actually wear it in Greece (not that this makes me any prouder but you'll see my point)
The same night I found myself (can't remember how) at the offices of a very big magazine of the time, chatting with the director, editors e.t.c. about contemporary events and the future of the magazine. Actually, I was there with a friend.
The impact this perfume created that night was beyond words! For the next days, wherever I was, I had people talking to me about my perfume. It was THAT good (and still is) and THAT original!
I believe M. Kurkdjian has created a masterpiece and that JPGaultier really owes this man MORE than a lot!
Anyway, nowadays it is so popular that it doesn't make much sense to wear it. It is certain someone else next to you will wear it anyway!
Lastly, I can't imagine how many noses must have felt (only) a little bit jealous of this young man's creation.

Le Male is the great conundrum - you buy it because you tried a sample/tester and loved the mint/lavender powdered scent, then you bring it home and use up most of the bottle before you finally realize that half the people you pass on the street smell exactly like you.

JPG tries, year after year, to create variants on the same thing, but you just can't beat the original. Synthetic? Yes, but it's so out there that it still catches the attention of others, regardless of its overuse.

I didn't even consider wearing this until I was in my early 20's. If you're in high school, I wouldn't suggest wearing this unless you feel you're confident enough to pull it off. It screams "mature and complicated". You WILL be the center of attention when you wear this - the sillage and longevity is massive, no matter what skin its applied to.

Le Male is the type of the cologne that you would buy just to say you have it - use it as a backup in the fall and winter for variety, but never rely on it as a signature scent (and never apply it liberally - my boss once commented that I smelled like I "bathed in a tub of mint soap"). It's ridiculously oversaturated in today's culture, and I can't see anyone pulling this off in a highly-populated urban setting.

"Le Male" de Jean Paul Gaultier is really common nowadays.
In fact, chances are that, like me, when you will first smell it, the fragrance wouldn't be a total stranger to you, even if you're not a fragrance fanatic.

Aside from that, "Le Male" is a very gentle fragrance.
Its main idea is to combine the freshness of lavander and minth with the sweetness of vanilla.

In the end what you have is a really soft and attracting scent.
Not masculine nor imposing enough to be worn by businessmen and/or 40+ men, but for everything else, "Le Male" de Jean Paul Gaultier is a recommandation for winter time.

Masterpiece !
This one is such a great fragrance : it opened the path to soft male fragrances, way more pleasant than sharp fougeres or loud woody ones.
And "Le Mâle" is and will always remain such beautiful, uncommon creation.

The only downside is that, like all very popular fragrances, a lot of people wear it, most of the time in a wrong way, giving a bad image to the perfume .... :-/

Once, a long time ago, I found myself in a men's restroom. I can't remember why. Maybe out of curiosity? Anyhow, I remember the peculiar and overwhelming minty smell of the deodorizing "cake" in the bottom of the urinal. To me, this fragrance smells just like that: scented urinal cake. Even my fiance agreed with me!

Obviously, though, neither of us have the chemistry to pull this scent off, so I am positive that it smells different (and much better) on the right person!

do not understand how much people talk about this perfume is very striking in the beginning ... (more precisely in the first 30 minutes) is an intoxicating smell as well, because the notes of mint, but what you have then is a perfume with an average projection and excellent fixation (about 8, maybe 9 hours on my skin) getting very close to the skin with a smell very good.
it is nonetheless an interesting scent, who am I to speak ill of him, but in my collection I have other much better and more unique ...

Le Male is the King of the comments made by everyone who meets who is using it.
Everyone loves this scent, from children to the elderly, men or women.
At the level of its development is perfect.
It may be a little criticism because many people use this perfume, but this comment is unfair and selfish, because everyone has the right to use, and if I like the perfume I can not forbid other people like it or not buy it.

Everything is perfect in this perfume, since the creator, the brand, the ads.

I give my congratulations to everyone who is involved in the process of creating something so powerful, universal and perfect as Le Male.

I really love this scent so much, but that's the problem, everyone seems to love it, if you want to feel unique you can't wear this one, everyone knows you're wearing JPG Le Male.

Perfume for me needs to bring out a special atmosphere, i like it to be a little sinister, dark and heavy, and this one sure is, but i won't wear it anymore, it got too commercial, it's a personal thing, cause there's really nothing wrong with the scent.

10/10 for the scent, longevity and sillage.

First of all no hard feelings and negativity for the lovers of this high profile perfume. Actually this is one of the perfumes which i don't like at all, it doesn't necessarily mean that those who love it are on the wrong side but simply it is perhaps just not for me and not of my taste. Because there always remain a question of personal choice and preference and one cannot blame those who use it. Anyhow, coming towards the fragrance it is similar to joop homme and CH 212 sexy man, but yes Le male is the pioneer among them. The best part is its incredible projection and longevity. The bad things: it is too much sweet and soft just like a baby powder or a smell of female cosmetics. It can relatively smell good on females as compare to men.
Bottle is phenomenal and a hallmark of JPG
I give it 7 out of 10 for its unbelievable popularity.

I really adore this scent, as my boyfriend of 6 years was wearing this when we met, and still uses it regularly :-)
That said, he doesn't douse himself in it, he just uses a spray or two- too much is too much!!!
It really reminds me of his best qualities-sensual, strong, calm, relaxed, a little sweet but not overly brash or macho. I must say i do love a musky vanilla scent and this hits all the right notes on my man :-)
I have to agree with others in that this could be considered a unisex fragrance, but I personally would not go so far as to wear it myself!!!

Do you remember the scent that started it all?

For me it was Le Male. When I was 14 my older brother came home smelling of something wonderful, something new, and something so outside of what I had ever experienced... incomprehensible to my nose.

Le Male was his new prized possession and I wasn’t allowed to touch! However, one night, after he had left the house, I opened his cabinet and reached for the forbidden bottle. I spent the next five minutes writhing around the floor, my eyes closed, one hand clutching the bottle and the other glued to my nose. So strong was my intoxication that I hadn’t noticed my brothers return. Normally my brother wasn’t shy to give me a taste of his boot, but the sight of me squirming around on the floor.... well I think it slightly unnerved him.

Now that I’m older I don’t have to sneak around smelling fragrances anymore (although, the staff at some department stores can make you behave that way). But every time a spray Le Male; that strange minty vanilla smell evokes memories of a time so different.

I'm female and I have to say I LOVE, LOVE this scent! I couldn't figure out what was so delicious about it initially, however, I discovered it's the vanilla undertones. I have samples that I use in the privacy of my home haha, because as I've been told, I smell too much like a man to wear in public! which is really a shame. It smells heavenly! Unfortunately JPG doesn't have an equivalent scent for women. On a man??? Oh yum!! Would definitely put some naughty thoughts in my head if I met a man wearing this! :)

With Le Male you get a lot of lavender, gallons of vanilla, tons of spices, and a heeping B-52-sized load of powder, and all of it pummels your senses for the first ninety minutes of wear. Eventually the top subsides, the heart melds into the dry base, and the whole thing becomes more of an "aura" scent, the sort that fills the room but then drops into the background. Personally I hate this fragrance, although I do remember when it came out and headlocked the '90s. There's no reason to revisit this unless you want to smell like one of those 27 - 35 year-olds who still hasn't gotten their stuff together and spends weekends night clubbing. I'm hard pressed to believe there's many teenagers who wear this nowadays - many other equally abysmal fragrances have replaced it, but it still has a powerful presence in certain settings. Much like Cool Water and Polo, Le Male is one of those masculine legends that will live on in infamy.

Sweet tonka beans and vanilla. A good winter time clubbing frag. Girls go crazy over this, but go easy on the trigger- perhaps two sprays and that's it. Lasts forever on my skin. Still not too commonly worn in the midwest USA, but I fear not for much longer.

How is this one a top seller?! Really?! A synthetic vanilla explosion mixed with mint all the way through... too much linear and boring. Stays forever on skin and projects like a monster. Must be doing really well on the market all these years just because in general, girls usually loves a sweet smell and so, guys will pump this fragrance to attract the opposite sex.

Before i really got into fragrances i would see this guy laying around at my local boutique all the time, so much so that i apparently overlooked it time and time again. I read up that Gaultier's inspiration for this piece was "A mans skin in the sun", and to that i would say bravo.
I can vividly remember being at the beach a couple of years ago, and a very similar aroma emanated from my skin after i sat out in the sun all day.
Extraordinary, fascinating and cultivating, Le male has surely stolen the hearts of many men and women over the years. You can add mine to that list.

The top:

Powdery lavender and mint work together as a team creating that "steam over cold air" feeling, similar to cool water, yet obviously different, indescribingly seperate. Herbal artemisia and bergamot add a much appreciated nudge towards a suggestive greeness. Cardamom is simply assisting in that spicy "body odor" type vibe that is echoe'd throughout the entire scent.
Making pretend it's not just something you've applied.

The middle:

In my opinion cinnamon is in this composition more or less as a "binding" agent. Giving structure throughout, leaving nothing without substance.
The middle is where you will really get that "sun-drenched" vibe, because of the creamy floral orange blossom being taken by spicy "red" cardamom. The magic is in the middle with this one. Without these key middle notes i think we would have a whole different beast, with a LOT less body(ironic huh?).

The base:

A soft landing offered by a synthetic vanilla contrasts well with the suger dusted tonka bean you nearly missed. Not smooth, yet not necessarily course, tonka bean adds much needed depth and substance to the composition. In my opinion, Styrax, or Benzoin crystals may have faired better than the Vanilla/Tonka combo.
On the after-smell, we get the ever so slight whiff of saline sandalwood.

I approve

I recently smelled this in a magazine add. I immediately had my hubby try it on because it was very appealing to me. It's a beautiful soft, cool smell.. the best way to describe it is like a light-weight, white angora sweater that you'd wear in the spring. It's almost a feminine fragrance, but the cedar, cinnamon, cardamom, bergamot.. they make it a secure, stable fragrance with masculine undertones. I've never smelled such an ambiguous fragrance before and I like it. My hubby, however, did not. He thought he smelled like a girl and scrubbed it off as soon as he got the chance. It gave him a little bit of a headache (he likes the lavender scent that this has but he's use to musks and vetivers, not so much florals). All in all, I'd say I like this on the paper way better than on a guy. To me, a guy who wears this may have a feminine side... If this perfume were a man, he'd be like Chandler on "Friends"... or maybe more like Will from "Will & Grace". ;0)

first of all a big blast of lavender and mint

then you get a very synthetic note (which is the worst point in this fragrance)

the middle notes are soo delecious the combination of cinnamon and vanilla is seductive

finally dries down to a powdery vanallic scent

projection and longivity are amazing!!

I just don´t get why people are so worried about the scent´s popularity, if I like it, I´ll buy it, period.

After this little outflow, let´s go straight towards review:

This perfume is just amazing, light opening, not too sweet, a little powder, with anemisia + lavender + bergamot, great projection, great sillage, i feel like I have 1 million dollars on my bank account when I use it (women sorry I just FEEL LIKE, but I haven´t actually...lol). It´s glamorous, balanced, smooth, tres chic, intended for 30´s to 40´s modern men.

The middle tones are difficult to recognize and the basenotes make the perfume even better, with extraordinary lasting!!!

I love it!!! Like promoscanner, a member of this site said: "women melt in the presence of this scent" 100% agreed!

It´s like no other perfume....UNIQUE..... as someone´s else said in this site, It´s poetry in a bottle...

I have this one but i dont use it, and i dont know why.
The scent is good. The projection em longevity is great.
Well, i know why i dont use this.
I dont use this because it has no use for me. I mean, this is not a scent to be used in everyday, like work and office, because its to sweet and powdery almost sickening.
Sometimes i find it too strong and annoying.
So i may use it in special occasions right? no. I have other better scents for special occasions. This one is too informal, i dont know how to explain.
Also i dont find it sexy because its to irreverent and humorous. The scent smells like sweet baby powder.
Well i dont know when im going to use it.
The bottle and the picture of a gay sailor represents really well this fragrance.

This was not a blind buy for me, so you see, i know what a bought. You may have the same experience i had.

overall 7.5/10

I hate the bottle, and the can that it comes in. These things aren't important if the juice is good, which I never liked that much when I tried it, but I only tested it once. Love this stuff, definitely a "less is more" type fragrance like Joop Homme, many, many people wear it, which occasionally takes the shine off it for me (due to my idiosyncracies, not the fragrance), just smelt it tonight on many a male out for a drink in my town (Saturday night). It will probably still be very popular in another 15 years time. Bravo Jean Paul.

I smell it again and I like it, cool! Great aromatic, the test paper still is going on strongly. Love the dry down, but still can't bear the bottle; the very example of horrible design. I believe visual aspects as color, shape, size, stopper and etc must support the smell. The scent is too masculine and well blended that I hadn't expected, with great aromatic mainstream: lavender and vanilla. But the bottle illustrates an aquatic perfume, specially the idea of navy in ads.
There are lots of perfect perfumes which main odor are lavender and vanilla like Caron Pour un Homme and YSL l'nuit de la Homme, and don't they look more charming?
Least but not last, great scent but awful bottle and I never ever go for it.

My boyfriend wears this and I have a hard time with this one to be honest. (He wears this because as a hairdresser, the women love this.) The smell of vanilla is apparent, as is powder. Overall a pretty well balanced scent. To define "hard time" I will say I am not "put off" by this scent. On the contrary I rather like it and I know he is around when I smell it, but that also means he can never sneak up on me! Projection is over the top! Maybe he wears too much but I can smell this one as he approaches. And it is rather common too because it seems that I smell this on quite a few other men.

Bottom line? Like rather than love the smell, probably because projection is huge.

Girls love this scent! That's just great...I'm gay.

Less is more with Le Male.

I know many men wearing this perfume.I just don't understand why. Most women don't like the scent, it's common and so not male!!!

Have you ever seen the promo on tv? There is nothing masculine about it!

I'm sorry.

Try Relax or Zino from Davidoff.

I suppose this scent shows how much depends on the perfumer's rendition, rather than just the notes. This has more of my favourite notes than many of my favourite scents. But when I smell this I either run or hold my breath.

Yes, I'm female, and I don't associate it with any personal experience. It's the scent itself that offends my nose.

It may be true that most people over-apply. That can ruin a fragrance. But somehow I doubt that anyone who believes in "less is more" would use this in the first place.

This is a really great cologne for winter- the vanilla and cinnamon are very warming during winter as well as smelling great.
I definitely would not recommend this for summer though as it feels rather sticky and I find the scent comes across as very sweet during summer.

Powdery lavender and vanilla. Has a "caramel" sort of effect to it.

Being a devotee of the Hindu God Shiva, the blue bottle instantly reminded me of Shiva. Shiva is usually depicted with a blue body, so the bottle reminded me of Shiva. The mint in the opening reminded me of cold.. Shiva dwells in the peaks where it's very cold. I just thought someone might like the different story of why I fell in love with this fragrance. Whether women like it or not, I love it so I wear it. Not my girlfriend's favourite as in it doesn't turn her on or anything, but she does like the smell so I get to wear it around her too.. I know a few women who don't like this fragrance too.. But majority like it, but nothing special these days.. If you're looking for something similar which is more special these days you can try la nuit de l'homme and Pi.. both of these I think are much better, but they lack the minty chill le male gives me... and I still LOOOOOOOOVE my Le Male.. haha

Le Male will work well and impress the newbies enough to buy a big bottle or maybe two but for the old timers who tried many perfumes and over time developed a taste for quality fragrances, They will find that Le Male just cannot hold itself well in the face of competition from many similarly priced perfumes.

This starts off with the mint and lavendar that create a smell like shaving cream. this top lasts about an hour and then it starts to dry down into vanila/cinamon aroma something like cinamin bun or a cinamon vanila candel. this middle lasts for a good 8 hours. then it calms down and the ceadr, tonka bean and sandlewood takes over with the vanilla lingering in the backgroun! This frag. is SEXY/WARM , thats what the ladies told me ;)!This is a vanila frag. so try it out before u buy it. Excelent all in all !

This is, in a way, a more civilized and a bit feminine version of Caron Pour Un Homme. Reminds me of French Vanilla Coffee Mate that I really love, so I don't mind smelling it all day. :-)

This stuff lasts and projects, so go easy on the trigger, 'cause too much can make you smell like you've spilled the creamer all over yourself. ;-)

The flacon design alone is brilliant. It's surely an equivalent of the classic Coca-Cola bottle in the fragrance world, it's at least equally recognizable.

Love the body wash, but the cologne may be a little too much, you can wear the body wash anytime of year, but the cologne you only wear fall/winter/early, cold, and rainy spring... that's the purpose of the body wash is to use it with the body wash you already have, or use it alone, to enhance the overall smell/ aura..

This scent lasts about six hours, and that was after applying three sprays that I desperately hoped were not too much. Initially is has a fresh water kind of scent, though water that is flowing by some sort of flowers. With that said, it's not feminine -- there's a subtle masculine undertow to it that I can't quite peg. It fades rapidly and leaves behind a sweet, faintly musky scent.

My second outing revealed more notes to the mix -- the detergent note and the root beer note! It wasn't the top note of root beer, but the middle, aged, stale kind of smell. I did note some curiosity by the ladies on this, but really I didn't care for how it smelled on me, and it just didn't last very long.

I'm female - I wear a number of unisex or male fragraces (Old spice, Black Leather suede, Bvlgari homme) as well as the girly stuff.

I tried this on in a department store - based on reviews.
I had a guy with me.
"Here, sniff, what do you think," I said.
He sniffed my wrist.
"You smell like sweaty man," he said.
I was a bit aghast.
I smelled like sweaty man?
But not like sweat, as it turned out, it's just that he associated this scent with 'men', and "men are always sweaty", so therefore even though i wasnt sweaty, i smelt like sweaty man!
This was enough to put me off buying this scent for a loooong time. However, every time i wandered by it, i would give it a spray. As a good, non sweet vanilla, gets me every time.
This one got to me.
I just bought it.
I'm now sitting in my lounge, on my lap top, sniffing the smell of sweaty man.
And if i decide it's too much, I always have the option of giving it to a man and smelling it on him, too.

When I first smelled it, i did not like it, thought it to be a cheap strong smelling, however it was intriguing, every time time i went to MAcy's I sprayed it on my wrist and smelled and wanted to know what was bad about it. Nothing was!! Its kind of strong but the good strong. If you like this you would like Dior homme too.

I couldn’t wait for this bottle to be finished. Its just something about how this one gets in the throat and nose that I didn’t like after a while of owning it. Sexy, Romantic, Passionate, Sensual. Words cannot express the things that come in this bottle. Ive smelled many many fragrances throughout my time. Ive smelled the other popular designer night time/sexy/romantic scents like A*Men, Pure Malt, Armani Code, La Nuit de L'homme, Allure, many many more. Ive smelled the popular niche fragrances in the class such as Musc Ravageur, Tobacco Vanille, New Haarlem, Chergui, and many manny more. But for me, nothing matches up to Jean Paul Gaultier's Le male. For me, its the greatest fragrance in the world.

First of all, the scent itself. From the amazing Mint and Lavender opening, to the absolutely hypnotizing Vanilla middle and drydown, this fragrance is absolute sex in a bottle, an absolute lady killer, and must be by far the most complimented fragrance of all time.

Secondly, many fragrances can smell good, but do they last? and can someone smell me from over there...With Le Male, there is never any worry about that. It projects like a beast and lasts long. That power, coupled with the hypnotizing scent, makes for an absolute gem.

Third. Yeah. Its popular. Its one of the best sellers in the history of the the industry and for damn good reason. Just because it sells alot doesnt mean it should be looked down on. If it wasnt so amazing, it wouldnt be so popular. Its as simple as that. Its overall financial success in the fragrance industry shouldnt be something that you fault this fragrance for, but something that should be recognized and rewarded.

Ive been very very very pleased with alot of fragrances, but there is no fragrance in this world that has left the impression that Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier has left me. When i smelled it on a friend for the first time, i was absolutely shocked. SHOCKED.

This IS the greatest fragrance of all time, and it shouldnt be knocked because so many of tried copying it and it shouldnt be knocked because it doesnt smell funky or like a womens perfume.

Basketball has Michael Jordan. Mens fragrance has Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male.

All hail, The Holy Grail

Smell:The most alluring, romantic, attractive fragrance i have ever smelled;10
Projection:Projects a loooong range with a dreamy powdery vanilla;10

All I ever really got from this was a soapy/clean scent that was somehow reminiscent of an old-time barbershop. The sillage and longevity are everything other reviewers have claimed.

Sixthscents your review is ignorant beyond belief. Its the 21st century now if you had not noticed? Who cares if the bottle is a male torso why does that threaten you? You are probably the kind of man who needs to tear off the sticker off a bottle of Fierce because it has a photo of a mans body on it.
As for the fragrance.... It suffers from the same problem that Joop and Fahernheit does, namely over-application and a feeling of 'of their time'. when these scents are worn with lightness they smell OK, however, when they arer overdone they smell headache enducing.

A sexy and soft yet masculine scent. It has a very powdery and floral (I get lavender) top with a warm and sweet heart and base. The top notes on this thing are so addictive, probably one of the best I have ever smelt. This is a perfect date night or night out fragrance. Definitely use this if you want to impress that special someone. All in all Le Male is an extremely easy cologne to take in. Also this projects amazingly well and the sillage is quite nice. The "Almighty" Le Male. This very well known fragrance fits in the same category of the 80's powerhouses as YSL Kouros or Paco Rabanne PH in the area of strength, sillage and longevity. It's unnecesary to make another detailed review on this ode on how to make successfull marketing, but I will say some things that may help when you're in the dilemma of "which is better, Le male or...?".
1-Le Male is too common to use it to surprise somebody (lack of uniqueness)
2-Le Male definitely kills every single new frag in the market in terms of sillage, staying power, etc
3- Le Male is the epithome of (synthetic)vanilla-based perfumes. If you like industrially manufactured vanilla (that is to say, aromatic candle smell), you will like this. Personally, i love it
4-Le Male wins in the versatility realm, but NEVER use it in hot summer days or people will hate you.
5-Very expensive, BTW
6- Women really like this, I don't know why. From young girls to mature ladies, every single one of them seems to love this juice.
After all this statement, I must say one final word: TRY IT (let your nose take the final verdict).

Weird combo of Gaultier 2 resiny, spicy incense and an aquatic men's scent. It works, though I can't say why, and dries down to a cool, pleasant musk. Women or men could wear this, no matter what gianmarco said here. I think he was more turned off by smelling a recognizable man's scent on a woman than by the fragrance itself. If I wear Old Spice, it's because I like the scent and sorry to any guy out there who can't hack a woman wearing a man's scent. Men wear womens scents too, and we try not to draw lines.

I am yet another woman who enjoys wearing this for herself! As a big fan of lavender this fragrance is one of my favourites. This is a lovely scent that is sweet but not over the top like some women's perfumes which can easily be too floral or fruity for my liking. The drydown is gorgeous and warm and lasts all day - especially on my clothes. Both men and women have complimented me when wearing this and I'll always be sure to have a bottle in my collection!

I was wondering what to get my dad for Christmas, and though he asked for Boss Bottled, I did not like it at all. Then I considered Acqua di Gio, but after smelling it, I didn't think it would suit an over 80 years old man. More for younger guys, I think. Then a colleague at work gave me a sample of Le Male, and that's what I'm gonna get for my dad! It's classic, not too sharp, masculine but soft and pleasant. I'm so happy I made up my mind! Lets hope my dad's gonna love it as much as I do!

On my skin:
Top: Sharp, vanilla-like scent, with sweetness-mints in it. Its like eating the eclipse sweet, mix with vanilla seeds...I dunno....6 hours (OMG).

Middle: Not much changes from this unique-shape bottle. the vanilla turns up a little, the mint settles down, and the sharpness wears down a little; 6 hours.

Base: Vanilla, vanilla, and more vanilla; 6 hours.

For sure its a complement getter (80% likes, 20% hates). Girls LOVE this one. This is a common-every-one uses it fragrance. I bet some girl hates this because her boyfriend dump her, and he is on Le Male.

Night out, clubbing scent. It can be a chill out with friends at night scent. BUT not for work, you boss will hate you when you're on this.

I have scent this around college students, so if you want to be unique, this is a pass.

If you want attention, you want to get laid, or whatever, or you are MR POPULAR, bingo, this is for you.

The country I am in has no 4 seasons, so it is either hot or cold weather. This works pretty very well on both actually, as I mention, I have scent this in college, so heck.

My rating (base on 5 stars)

Scent: 2 (eveyone has it, its not unique, its boring, JPG is making money. A 5 if it is MR POPULAR's signature scent).

Sillage: 5 (this is a godzilla scent, its your Lady Gaga, your Jonas Brothers, your DJ's in the house y'all scent).

Time length: 5 (bazooka scent that sends you to the moon).

Occasion: 2 (YES! finally it gets a 2 score for me! night out scent but also a day scent, not for work, you get a 5 if you are MR POPULAR).

Overall base on mathematics: 3.5 @ 5/5
FOR MR POPULAR!

COMMON SCENT, MR POPULAR SCENT, CHICKS LOVE IT, BOSS HATES IT, I HATE IT.

Tested it on paper while looking for a Christmas present for a friend and there is no way in hell he's getting this - because I don't find it very manly and because I'M KEEPING IT FOR MYSELF; I got the loveliest burst of cherries - I have read other reviews and NOBODY smelled cherries; Weird perception on my part but I got a sense of fresh, not too sweet, rather cool, heightened cherry smell with a creaminess around it; I wanted to eat that piece of paper. I'm gonna try it on my skin next and hope *please, please, please* that my skin does not ruin it (I'm not expecting any cherry smell, I suspect it's gonna be quite different on skin from what I got on paper... Maybe I was just hungry when I smelled it first)

Lovely on my skin too, and the cherry was there too followed by amazing warm musk and vanilla at the end. Great perfume! And I take back what I said about it not being masculine enough, I think a man could defenetly carry this. It's downright edible.

What a fragrance!! Le Male in my opinion just has to be the best male fragrance from jean paul gaultier. I used to date a guy from argentina and when he wore Le Male it drove me crazy with delight and most of the girls he knew loved it on him. Le Male is sexy, crazy and fun. It envokes passion. Just the fragrance to wear on the dance floor. Le Male is perfect for the man who is ambitious, sexy, flirtatious, romantic and passionate. I just love the bottle design, jean paul is a master of design.

YOu can say that it's very popular, that is on every men's neck, you can say whatever you want, but this scent is so damn good! Even it has past a fifteen years..this scent gives more and more! It's so thick scent...like it says, "I want to hug you". Big projection, aura, longivity...so complex style, openning with a mint and lavender and the heart mixed with base notes gives us so delicate, tasty scent...someone says that it's a chemical bomb, but I say it's a magnificient bomb! The fragrance that connects and embraces everyone in the surrounding...this fragrance wrote a small piece of history with such a beautiful moments for someone, that is for sure. I want them to last as the fragrance last...for ever!

Final score ****

That's the one that introduced me to the hobby of scents. Yes, it was a bit of that "what can I add to my arsenal to attract girls?". It screams fun, fun, fun.

The good
Young girls dig this. Period.
It's also a pretty complex mainstream fragrance. Most laymen probably don't even know about the notes pyramid but it's all there, knock-offs and cheapos can't pull it off. It's a fun journey indeed, from the fresh top to the cheerful heart, finally arriving at the clean drydown.
Unique and it doesn't feel like the cliche men's scents.
Proper sillage test shows it's not really so sweet as some people claim, if applied with a light hand.
Atomic sillage and staying power.

The bad
Because of the gender crossing thematic typical of Gaultier's, this one will sparkle discussions on what's appropriate for men pretty often. Conservative noses will label it girlish or gay, so be ready for it.
I believe it's a "fun scent" and therefore not appropriate for office and formal settings.
The top notes feel indeed industrial/synthetic and that might put off some.

The ugly
Being the quintessential "pickup scent", many men treat it like a love potion: the more the better, they must think. The resulting mess is disgusting but what scent doesn't reek when overapplied?
Not appropriate for very hot weather.
To each their own but I also find older (40+) folks wearing this as trying too hard most of the time, just like it would feel it they wore teenager clothing.
Quite a many people mistake it for Cuba Gold, a cheapo, as the heart notes are pretty close.

after wearing this stuff for awhile i have noticed a few things that are VERY important about this scent

it is VERY heavy and can EASILY be overpowering if not applied very sparingly.....a few sprays could easily last a week

this is definately a sweet smelling scent and i have heard of it as a "lady killer" this is NOT what i have found wearing it and actually a few people were put off by it's "pungent" smell

it is a very soapy heavy scent that MUST be only worn for romantic wear and if u wear it to class don't be upset if all the people sit across the room from u.... it MUST be worn at the right occasion just like joop

I loved the smell of mint in it. I just think it could be stronger. Longevity on me was about 7 hours. I didn't receive so many compliments wearing it as everybody says, but it's ok, after trying the free sample I really want to buy it to wear in selected occasions.

Sweet, masculine, and sexy..when you hold this small body of le male and smell that scent you'll directly have a feeling of masculanity..
I wasn't interested in le male when I bought it as much as when I've been using it for some while.
some times I wear it before going to bed..I just can't stop having more of this fragrance on my body..better on winter days.. longevity and sillage are really good..incredible

Hands down the most distinct Male fragrance ever..It is amazing musky and
soft..I can always tell when a man is wearing this...It's the only cologne that can not be confused with any other. Unlike every other male fragrance on the market, which has a typical scent...It sticks out like a sore thumb.. I want to attack A MAN THAT is wearing this..Love JPG Le Male.

This is now my favorite serious-occasion perfume. So cool, punchy and confident on top, needs rather very long time (compared to other ones I have/had) to subside on my skin. On first and second use, I even wondered and thought of not wearing it anymore. But after the third time, wow!

After topnote dissipates, it turned 180 degrees; more warm/sexy, rounded, and sweet. Makes me like it even more.

Who said this perfume isn't masculine? They just ain't have any confidence wearing it. If you are, wear it, and it will reinforce your confidence even more.

Well, you should try it several times, just to make sure. It's strong at first, anyway...

Brought home a sample for my university-aged son.

I'll probably be chastised for saying this, but -- if it's going to appeal to a certain demographic, it might tend to appeal to a younger generation. (Notice I said "might" and "tend". Meaning: not all young people are going to like it; and some not-quite-so-young people might. Did I put enough qualifiers in there?)

What with both the tonka and vanilla beans, it's very sweet, indeed, which is quite popular in fragrances these days. To MY nose, Le Male is "suffocating" (as one reviewer remarked). It actually bothers the back of my throat when I smell it. I sense an aoud/incense as well, even though they're not listed in the notes.

If you wonder whether this sugary concoction has any staying power as the hours pass by -- fear not! Longevity is (unfortunately) no problem.

My son is not crazy about this either, but his girlfriend (who lives for vanilla-flavoured perfumes/candles/air fresheners) absolutely adores it. Such a good sport, this lad of mine. Ah! Young love!

At first sight, everything is very offputting: the bottle, the brandname, the designer, the packaging, the adverts, even the perfume as per the thousands of men dousing themselves in this. If this is your case, do yourself a favor and get rid of preconceptions for Mr. Kourkdjan did an excellent job.

Le Mâle is very complex, noticing the way notes morph is a joy in itself - down here (Argentina) Le Mâle has been copied succesfuly to some extent, for this complexity has not been achieved either by knock-offs nor by local designer scents. It is very sweet and powdery, in a way it pays tribute to classic scents, without being dated. The sweetness does refer to actual styles in masculine scents without the shyness and subtlety so common in recent releases, traditional wearers or critics might perceive it as femenine, but, let's face it, things change, and in this case, it is something positive.

However, Le Mâle should be applied with care for it can end up being a nightmare for those around a careless wearer. One or two sprays do, they will make you smell good, get compliments, get whiffs of it day long, and best of all, smell like a man should for the base notes correspond to a classic male scent.

This one is very unique, and absolutely a love/hate scent. It`s a bit strange that it`s so popular, because it`s definitively not ordinary and boring. You will not go un-noticed when wearing this stuff. Be very careful on the trigger, otherwise it can be sickenly cloying, and give you a headache. I would say max 2 spray under your shirt. It`s a "spray in air walk throug cloud" scent. I think the reason people don`t like it, is because some guys overspray themselves with this stuff. If you think this scent is ok, but want to try something more refined and luxurious, I will recommend Amouage Reflection. It has the same "aura" in a sort of way, but is much more refined with more high quality ingredients. As always, try before you buy! Good luck..

This EDT is a classic for many. It has a musky smell of a fresh, masculine, powerful, and very fine. It is very recognizable note of musk in this fragrance. It seems very linear, which may be a good effect if you want a scent of musk. I do not think it is for teens, this harmonizes better with men from 21 onwards. It is very romantic musk. I do not think has more purposes than this scent of seduction.

To my point of view is just a very fine smell of musk. The bottle has a very original design, although not very attractive to men (what kind of man would grab a man's body?).

Without wasting any time and to make it short: the French luxury fashion brand Jean-Paul Gaultier have given a classic of male fragrances to the world. Created in the mid-nineties it is already so popular and famous by now that it can be purchased all over the world (I travelled the Sahara desert and what I found there was Coca Cola lemonade and Gaultier's "Le Male").

But seriously, when a perfume was popular during the 1990s, is still popular at the present time and will surely be popular in the future I think one can call that perfume a classic. "Le Male" is evidence enough that men's fragrances can be both oriental and masculine.

Marcelo

The best thing to do with fragrance is to shower really well, what I like to do is shower with a good body wash, oldspice, odor eating body wash, or dial, protection, type body wash....still wet/dripping, spray 2 full sprays, and towel dry off..still a strong scent, but if you wear it appropiately it's great

The perfume itself is great. I couldn't imagine how sweet vanilla and cinnamon can be so important in a perfume and not make it puerile; however, Le Male is playful. The blend of herbs is well done and not offensive to me, and the long-lasting base is also OK.
I somehow agree with zvoncica, and I think that this perfume doesn't suit everyone. It inevitableby makes me think of the young lovers of mature glories who get confused with night; but it also reminds me good friends. Men can be things much worse than irresponsible; and not all men must smell mature and serious, and take women seriously. However, this perfume can feel as a stupid joke when worn by the wrong person.

I observed Le Male from various points down the testing alley he walked. On test paper, on friend, on my skin, on boyfriend, on stranger. Most striking note in it are green aromatics which give him cold and metallic appearance. Endless lavender bushes, not even natural, this are lavender fields on spray painted picture. Original toothpaste mint and dreadful "thank you cant stand anymore" artemisia.

Le Male has the frying pan personality and is lovely as Spain boot. The sailor? He is on Balldessarini`s Ambre boat. This is consumed gigolo in B movie cast.
Avoid.

now this cologne is exellent regardless what anyone would say, this is a brilliant creation. It is a very masculine scent that follow you throughout the day unlike many other colognes that just die out. I would class this scent in the same category as dolce & gabbana, john varvatos, thierry mugler all because these colognes have great longetivity and it screams MASCULINE SCENT. all in all 9.5/10

When worn right, and this means only 1 spray on the chest, it's the best winter fragrance you can get. But it becomes a cloying mess when people douse themselve in it.
The fragrance opens with lavender and minth, soothing and refreshing at once. Further on, you'll smell orange blossom and in the later drydown sandalwood, tonka and vanilla combo. Longevity and sillage are extraordinary.
Conclusion: seductive winter fragrance that never fails to get you complimented if you wear it lightly!

8,5/10 (one spray) in winter
4/10 (more than two sprays) on a hot summer day.

Pure sharp strong lavender essence makes a long lasting aura of nature around you and you can’t get rid of it for many hours!

I had another lavender-base cologne “Pour Un Homme de Caron by Caron”, that was more mature and less wild comparison to this one.

“Le Male” is very strong and overwhelming. Even you use just a little amount; it takes about half an hour to getting calm and manifests the real heart of scent.

Longevity and sillage are so good.
I like it too ☺

This is my signature fall cologne. it stars off very floral. in the opening the lavender is very prominent witha hint of bergamot and mint. it has one of "THE" best opening. in the dry down the vanilla is the most prominent and with a hint of tonka beans. this bad boy spreads like crazy. it always leaves a scent trail like when i exit a building and if theirs someone close to me , he will definatly turn his or her head around to see me and mostly its her head. im tellin you guys its a real head turner. and it last on my skin minimum 6 hrs. with that enough said .PEACE !

My fiancee wears this often and I wished he didn't because I don't like it. I find it suffocating, too powdery and sweet for my liking. Bear in mind I may be biased here because I like my guy smelling soapy-clean, with that fresh-out-the-shower aura. I think it's really appealing on a man. Anyway, I am also one of those people who believes fragrances should not be labeled as feminine or masculine. My fiancee and I share and exchange some scents because we wear whatever the heck we want despite any labels. With that being said, I think Le Male is simply too sweet and powdery for anyone - male or female.

I understand that this is one of the classic male perfumes of the 1990s, and I actually do like the smell, yet it reminds me of scented erasers that were popular when I went to school. This makes it cheap and childish, and hence not sexy at all. This of course applies only to my mind, so go out and have a go.

I can't say the word wonderful enough when it comes to describing this amazing Jean Paul Gaultier creation.

I don't know where these so-called 'homosexual' and 'metrosexual' terminologies come from. I'm not one for throwing a fragrance into a particular category, Le Male can be either masculine or sweet with a feministic touch, it all depends on how you interpret the scent.

Because vanilla and musk are dominant notes in this fragrance, I can see why some men might think that this lacks masculinity. Let me assure you that when worn by the right man this has all the potential to make me swoon.

Le Male is sweet yet refreshing at the same time. Some have noted an almost soapy and powdery quality, which is certainly there, however I quite like it. I particularly love that for a fragrance which is so popular, it is so unique, one of a kind.

The lasting strength, is honestly, out of this world. It has the ability to last and last. I must add that I rather like the bottle. I like its bold and straight-forward design. It's beyond me to understand why someone would be ashamed of displaying it.

Why did I have to miss the fougere part? I might like the heavy sweet scent more were I treated to
some lavender, mint and artemesia!

I was at a milonga (tango dance)wearing a bit of a sample of one of those luscious and demure way-to-expensive-to-buy fragrances, when I encountered and danced with a guy who went crazy with his bottle of Le Male. I have a light hand with my fragrances, most of the time, definitely that time--But I couldn't smell myself at all, nor anything else except for a bit of wood and SWEETNESS! I was thinking I could wear his cologne myself, and nobody would know it was a a fragrance made for men. I like a creative, unusual kind of sweet scent on men, but this doesn't make me look twice. Perhaps it could be nice if he wore just a touch. This didn't upset my nose, but it did irritate me. A really great fragrance can still make you swoon, or boost your mood when you smell it on somebody who sprayed just a bit too much (as long as you are in an open, well-ventilated area, not during allergy season). If this was wonderful, his heavy-handed approach wouldn't have seemed so aggressive.
I smelled Burberry Brit for men on one of my friends when I left the dance, and I was reminded what a well-balanced scent smells like, after being upstaged by this mean one.

In this case meets this principle so well known that the fragance in small packages .................. ............ and here we should have to Le Male added that in the right dose (to be exact ........ 3 sprays, one in the chest and two behind the ears. Well, that's my advice!
I love this fragrance but it is also true that I smelled in people who have spent at the dose ... and it is very heavy. It is the fragrance, along with Cool Water, which I have received more compliments in all age ranges. 9.5/10 for me

Great fragrance that lasts pretty long, atleast on my skin, at first is smells kind of soapy and clean, then the scent reminds me alot of those orange slice shaped gummies covered in sugar with a slight mint note on top of that, and after that it becomes very smooth and warm, with vanilla and amber. Its great at night when youre out having a good time in my opinion. Alot of people say that everyone wears this, but I rarely meet people wearing this fragrance. Le Male is the most famous male fragrance. The bottle says it all - as masculine as possible, but playful and ambivalent due to the stripes.

The scent replies to the images of the bottle it's contained in properly.

The beginning is brute and truly manly, pumped up with cardamom, artemisia and mint. It's ....the male.

A few minutes later though the stripes start to creep in. And all of a sudden the tough male has become , well , playful. Freed from manly restrictions.

And, yes, middle and base notes are fantastic. Woods, cinnamon and vanilla make Le Male what it is - a true masterpiece of fragrance world.

One of those fragrances that, if over-applied, can lead to a disastrous experience, but when you put on the right amount (2 to 3 sprays), it's a fragrance that yourself and the others around you can REALLY enjoy. I love the spicy florals, mint and vanilla. They seem to work well with each other. I would definitely recommend this for night wear. The bottle is also pretty cool.

I am not sure why "gay" or "meterosexual" come up whenever Le Male is discussed. Is it the fact the bottle is a male torso or is it the AMAZING smell it has?

I wear this a lot. I have worn this since the 90s in college and have always gotten compliments.

The lavender and mint and very strong and refreshing. The base with its spicy and gourmand notes make it the perfect fragnrance. I do not get anything synthetic on me. What a classic. TIMELESS

It is not bad, but simply I do not find it sexy. I perceive it as great for gay or bisexual men. It was designed for them if you study well its story. I tried if I could like JPG offerings: Le Male and Fleur D’ Male. These fragrances in my ultimate opinion (whether good or bad) are typical "metro sexual" realities! Thereafter, being a lasting and silage monsters is an impractical feature for insisting me to put them in any sort of regular usage.

Thumbs Down for having these worst fragrances in my collection. I spent a quite heavy price to get them. Worst 2nd Buy in my 75+ collection is “Le Male” while the 1st one is "Fleur D' Male" (yakhhhhhhh!!!)

And after getting these 2 from JPG, I learnt to try at least twice before buying any PERFUME!

Final Conclusion: Only use in which I can put Le Male is to mix it with some sophisticated heavy & spicy fragrance to give a little sweet touch! And unfortunately can’t put Fleur D’ Male even for such a use.

This is definitely one of my favourite scents. It just hits you with an aroma that is both dark and heavy as well as fresh at the same time. The most noticeable characteristic for me upon first applying is the vanilla/little bit of mint/almost soapy kind of scent. As it progreses I can see how some are turned off by the kind of chemically scents in there but I think for the most part that is an issue of overapplication. This scent is meant to be worn lightly.

Ok, since making mistakes is only human and rectify them is for those who are wize, I´m going to rectify my previous review. After three days wearing Le Male, I can say I´ve changed my mind, I now can see what a beautiful piece of art it is, the minty start, the cinnamon, the super sexy vanilla, just beautiful. I recomend it, but be patient and don´t be scared, it takes a while to accustom to it.

I definitely agree that this unique perfume (with lots of vanilla in it) is absolutely attractive and irrestistible to woman, but only one very masculine 'males'.
One of the best men's fragrances of the world.

Intensive and sensible, however, modern and warm!
Every man should have one bottle of this scent.
It is powerful and very long lasting!
Im my opinion it fits better with executive or professional men.
It's not a casual perfume for teenagers, for example.
It's sober and sexy!

Very strong for 2 hours! Later is smooth , warm, Luxury, luminous, sweet, but flowery. Long lasting ! I like orange blossom, cinnamon and vanilla; better than Carolina Herrera 212 (my oppinion). My No.1 Le Male and A*men!
Superb!

i don't like this at all... from sweet, powdery scents i love herrera 212 and aqua. for me herrera's house makes it right; and in this fragrance we have pepper versus vanilla. unfortunatly it's devastating war for ppl who wear this fragrance ;/

Hmmm. I must be missing something. I'm wearing it right now and I smell like essence of Grandma's Gardenia. The women in my office Do Not like this fragrance.

I have realised this is a love/hate scent as with A-men and Dior Homme, but the majority loves it. The smell is strong, fresh, sweet and musky. On some people I have felt the cumin note to much, but not on me. The fragrance is classic but still very relaxed and modern. It’s much better for the evening date than the office.

Le male has a very strong sweet smell which dominates everything else in the room, women do like it very much but i will not recommend for the summer, you have to a bit of a metrosexual to wear it it isn't something you want to buy a macho man!
but i have to say it is a very good and seductive perfume well done Jean Paul Gaultier!
Note: don't wear too much of it!

Wow, this is a really distinctive vanilla musk smell. It smells like the old Arrid Extra Extra Dry roll-on deodorant from the 1970's. (The new stuff smells different.) So, although I kind of like the vanilla, I can't help but think "deodorant" when I smell it.

I would say it is my favorite fragrance for a male. However, I got it for my ex-boyfriend and it would be absolutely wrong for me to purchase for my husband. As much as I love the fragrance, I guess it will be the kind I shall stop by the counter to sniff.
