Ok, well, I just received my bottle of the original Cobra and [drumroll please] it's a stink bomb! Think Coco mixed with Poison and then throw a tad bit of European 80s men's cologne into the mix and voila, you get Cobra! The packaging is so kitsch, too! Yes, this is very cheap BUT I was hoping for something more oriental than just stinky and loud for the sake of it :( This is also a very grandma scent so unless you're over 80 and want your perfume to wake you up and keep you awake, avoid this mess of a perfume at all cost! If you would like to swap me, please message me, however, you've been warned...this stuff reeks!!!!!
Has anyone here tried the Cobra Amarillo perfume? Is it similar to the original Cobra? I'm very curious :-)
I took a risk and blind bought this after seeing FunkyTomo's review and that you could get it cheaply from a UK website.
I had never liked Poison after being around so many women doused in it in the late 80's and haven't dared even sniff it on a tester since. Recently, through my new-found hobby of collecting perfumes I am seeing fragrances in a completely different light, appreciating notes in the opening right through to the drydown.
So, I ordered a 100ml bottle of Cobra with some of the money given to me for Christmas, hoping that my more 'mature' nose would appreciate this type of fragrance now, and knowing that this would be a 'lighter' fume than Poison.
It arrived yesterday (delivery was super-fast) and I waited until this morning before apprehensively spraying a tiny amount on one wrist. The opening was a bit strong but after just 10 minutes it smelled absolutely lovely on my skin, prompting me to go back and re-spray more liberally!
I've been wearing this for an hour now and it is lovely. I am wearing black with some sequins today (being New Year's Day I'm dressed up a bit) and it feels just right, very elegant. I am absolutely delighted.
I love Posion and i collect Snake jewelrey too ( my prize piece of vintage gold with ruby eyes im wearing in my profile pic ) ......... So this perfume is calling out for me to buy it !! I agree with the review below , hard to find indeed. Shame , i need this quite badly!! Is it discontinued ?
The Jeanne Arthes scents are non exsistant here in the UK. Theres a few on ebay , but not any of the ones im interested in.
What a lovley bottle and braclet though ! Id be over the moon if i couold get hold of this.
Mind you if its so rare , i predict silly prices so I shall have to get some real |Poison and yet another snake bracelet instead maybe :)
UPDATE - After having no luck with Uk shops ( Jeanne Arthes is non exsistant in north of England ) , and ebayers charging £80 a bottle - ( WHAT !?!? Ill get some vintage Posion Pure Parfum for that!) ...I have finally found a website which stocks the original Cobra , plus 3 variations for £8.99 each! free delivery in UK. Cobra is now on its way to me. :)
Jean Arthes Cobra is a copy of Christian Dior's Poison, a very nice one, minus the top-notes of the latter (which I hate). I absolutely lust over Poison's dark and sexy dry-down, but it is still too strong of a scent for me to be able to wear on most occasions, or even to tolerate for long periods of time. With Cobra, I don't have to worry about suffocating myself or others, because apart from lacking the hideous top notes of Poison, it is also much lighter which makes this a more wearable Poison like others have mentioned. It also very budget friendly too, and that's always a plus with me. This is a scent I can see myself wearing to a jazz lounge with a little black dress on, or to work the next day in a crisp white shirt and slacks, I think it is elegant enough for a 20-something who appreciates Poison but is afraid to wear it and wishes it wasn't so overpowering...to date, I haven't found a better 'Poison-lite' (if you know of something better, do let me know). The more mature and expert Poison-loving noses may enjoy this one as a casual scent (that is if they don't dismiss it as a cheap rip-off beforehand). I need to get myself a bottle, it is getting quite difficult to find.
If you like the dry-down of Poison yet don't dare to get one because you think it's a kind of fragrance which wears you, you may be satisfied trying this one.
It is way more lighter than the original thing, though I suspect that it has been seriously watered-down as I remember it from my childhood as quite a more heady fragrance with better longevity. Anyway, after years it still smells nice. Yet be warned, the sillage is only good within the first one hour of application and it totally lacks longevity. So I recommend that you re-apply it every two hours or so, I do so and no one around me has ever since died or suffocated -good.
It's budget, the bottle is not so bad though terribly amateurishly designed (why not use a different font when labelling the fragrance name at least), and the free bracelet which comes with it is nice! Just like the smell those bracelets are quite nostalgic to me, and they are actually wearable and even may look fab as a bangle around your arm. The one I got now has red eyes, I don't know if that detail is randomly available in different colors as well (I know that the green eyed cobra bracelet once existed), and am anyway thinking to collect them!
A copy of the original POISON, a trifle lighter and much cheaper, but the bottle is really cool if you're into collecting perfume vessels.
it's a blatant copy of poison, only it's a bit less spicy and not that strong. But it can easily be confused with Poison, I could ever tell them apart on somebody else.
What a beautiful, dignified scent. Not girly or womanly, no frills attached, but not unisex or androgynous either...just dignified and beautiful and confident is the best way I can describe it...it is dark without being dirty, it is also proud, sharp and cold...but it is not pessimistic or moody nor do I find it vampy or sexy...maybe mysterious and intriguing, but sex? no...it is just too dignified, too sharp, too cold for that. And I love that attitude because I don't need to smell like sex or candies or sweet flowers to feel good about myself.
I imagine that this is the scent of a very serious, intellectual woman, her age is anywhere between 18 to 38...she is strong headed with a cool, confident demeanor; she has no interest in trivial matters like parties or romance, she is cold, but her soul is clean and her heart is pure. Men are drawn to her challenging exterior and people are intrigued by her, but she remains aloof and careless.
I find the scent to be unpretentious and simple inspite of its depth and darkness. It is still not a jeans and T-shirt scent though (to me atleast :p ), it is much too 'sharp' for that even if it's a simplistic fragrance. I imagine it's something you'd wear with structured outfits, like smart shirt dresses, dark trench-coats, crisp white shirts, or tailored trousers. Because of that, I imagine this to be a perfect daily scent for the sharp-witted career woman. I had a bottle of this when I was 15, now 10 years later I still love the smell and will try and look for a bottle of it soon.
PS. This is CD's Poison minus the overwhelming medicinal/bitter/spicy top notes. So if you enjoyed the cool, dark, soapy dry down of Poison but hate its chaotic top notes try Cobra, you'd be surprised at how similar they are.
my mother also had this one when i was little and for my surprise i still remember very rich, chilli-like, deep fragrance (and ofcourse that precious cobra bracelet :D )...
this perfume reminds me of Dior Poison :)
My mom had it when I was a little girl, so I hardly remember the scent. But I remember the beautiful cobra bracelet, my mom presented it to me at last ) Hope this scent is availiable somewhere to buy. And I remember it's similar to Poison, but Poison has no bracelet! :-D
Oh, I've completely forgotten about this scent.
I used to wear it in my teens, when I suddenly turned into raven-head and was playing a vamp. Well, it was not my big love but the scent contributed a lot to my future understanding of deep, evening scents. It is a simplified quintessence of what Poisons in general personify. This dark sweet rebellious mixture that allows to approach only the most courageous to you could seem vulgar and no doubt demands relevance of usage.
By the way, it is interesting to find out that the orange blossom note was already enchanting me so many years ago. And I believe I had it in the 90s which doesn't coincide with the mentioned here date of prodiction.
It reminds me of Poison, but it`s lighter, more plain, and less serious. I still wear it though, it smells like berries and honey on me. Requires cold weather and (optional) a crisp white shirt and a completely careless attitude, otherwise it feels slightly vulgar and dirty.
