This sunny fragrance was created in 1989. Citrussy top notes are just like the bright sunshine rays, sunny and fresh, composed of sweet orange blossom. The floral heart is an unusual bouquet of iris, ylang-ylang, heliotrope and carnation. The base is warm and sweet due to vanilla, while tonka, cedar and benzoin also lend their warm character to the composition. The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Bourdon.

Perfume rating: 3.62 out of 5 with 794 votes.

Sun Fragrance Reviews

I'm loving this perfume but there's nothing summery or beachy about this fragrance. It's soft warm, powdery and slightly spicy. It's smells like a high end face cream. If I could rename it, I'd steal the name Cashmere Glow from bath and body works. Come to think of it, it's in the same scent family as Cashmere Glow.

Well this is really nice. I really and truly smells like warm sun on skin. Simple as that. Not the sun tan lotion, just the warm sweetness of your skin on a day when you've been out in the sun. I quite like it. It's creamy and smooth and not overwhelming. Testing it on a pretty cool day and it's a lovely reminder of what summer can be like. This might be a great winter pick me up for me.

One word: Beautiful.

Blind buy that was on my want list for a few years. So my initial thought of a perfume called sun was a beach smell. Fortunately after some research I found people saying Sun was not that Bronze Goddess type scent. I decided to give it a go anyhow. I am so stinkin happy with this scent. It is very summery without the beach edge. Hard for me to describe other then it smells "happy" and "positive" which brings to mind fun times of summer. I am totally not quite sure what notes I am smelling. I think I get a vanilla base in here mixed with some slight spicy floral. I cannot comment on the longevity just yet but being an EDT I expect it not to last crazy long. All in all a successful blind buy.
I also have to comment on the bottle. I LOVE the simplicity of this. Sometimes the simpler the better.

5 hours out and she's still clinging strongly to my wrist.
UPDATE: Now 8 hours later still staying strong on my arm :)

Smells like a wooden cupboard where I grew up. It houses nail polish, napkins, (unscented) candles, suntan lotion, old jars of vaseline, perfume minis, a bit of jewelry and other random things belonging to my mom. I don't think it has been cleaned out since the early 90's. Nice and homely.

I bought it yesterday, after that I met with my friend who asked me
-What is that? Some cream? You smell like sun, sea, sand...Delicious.

And truly it doesn't smell like perfume at all. I live on sea. This is beach scent. Imagine coming to beach and you can feel hundreds of sun lotion smells mixed together on warm sun. Don't be afraid there is refreshing sea and breezy wind so you won't get sick of sweet smell. You actually enjoyed it. It smells like that exactly.

So far I am loving it. I also have perfumed body lotion , smells amazing but softer version for those who complain on sillage.

I really love this fragrance. My friend had it in the 90s and I loved it on her but never got it myself. Now I finally bought it for myself, 20 years later :)
It's so lovely, it reminds me of a day on the beach.
Or when it dries down, it smells like expensive body powder which a 1950s Hollywood star would have used.
Perfect for the summer!

This one is all about the memories. It was a musthave when you're an eighties girl (like I am). Everyone at highschool had it. Everyone except for me, because all the popular skinny girls had it, so I didn't and that was that. Ten years later I really began to appreciate the scent itself. Because of the warm, slightly sweet feeling I get from it, but also a reminder of the lingering scent in the hallways of my school. It was a very carefree stage in my life (mainly homework and boyfriends) and Sun brings me back to that place. Love it.

This is such a wonderful fragrance!
The opening might be a little messy, but in just a few minutes it settles down into sweet and comforting benzoin on a gentle floral-musky background.
I think it's a great summer fragrance, but one which can be worn all year round.

It took me 10 minutes from trying it from a sample, to ordering a full bottle. Do I need to say more?

This is not a traditional sumer scent as we know them today, it has somehow been decided, that summer scent are supposed to be either aquatic or sitrocy, which is nice enough, but not really somthing that appeals to me. Sun by Jil Sander is more my cup of tea, a suntanlotion type of scent without the typical coconut ingredient. This is how you smell after taking a shower, all the sand from the beach has been washed away, your skin is sore and sunkissed, so you smear you self with a creamy skin lotion, and voila..... you smell like summer.

I don't know what it is with this one. Based on the notes i should like it but i acctually don't. I mean it is a beautiful fragrance but just not my style. It's very powdery and woody. The vanilla is nice and soft. It's also kinda sweet. But it doesn't have the freshness i like. I miss a fruity of a floral note.

But if you are into woody, soft powdery scents you will definetely like this perfume!

I can't tell the notes in this perfume, I simply can't indentify none of them alone, but what I smell it's creamy, sunlotion like, strong. I also think it doesn't fit to the beach, only if you're taking a walk there in the evening or it is autumn/winter, because it is not a light, acquatic or fruity scent. It's a full-bodied perfume. So, altough its called Sun, it suits better a summer night than a hot summer day.
This is an unique fragrance and it doesn't stay unnoticed. I also think its unisex.

A mess of an over complicated, over strong cheap smelling perfume.

Starts with an intensive powdery creamy spritz exactly like sun cream. After a few minutes the floral notes start to come to the forefront, and then the creamy vanilla. I don't particularly like any one note and together they are discordant and way too busy.

It's a perfume that tries too many different openings one after the other and then quickly settles into a one note cloying vanilla nothing.

Not for me.

Bright orange blossom and coconut oil. <3

Actually, SUN reminds me strongly of traditional orange blossoms like Oranger en Fleur, with a touch of Monoi oil added. Lovely... but different! The given accords don't quite square with what I'm smelling, and yet it's so good I don't mind. The other notes listed merely support the coconut and orange blossom, invisibly rounding out the composition.

This can present a soapy image, especially in the opening, but becomes softer, sweeter, and subtler as the day progresses. Good longevity with moderate to light sillage after the initial spray.

Sun is Terrific Value, a potentially addictive substance!

I positivly adore this scent. It doesn´t evoke memories of the beach but definately of summer. To me, a "beachy" scent would have to be more aquatic and salty since I usually only bade in salt water.

But this! All cotton, vanilla, coconut and a bit of citrus. I also get a hint of haven in here, witch to me evokes pics of glowing yellow fields in summer and picnics in the country side.

I actually like the bottle as well, mainly beacus it is so totally different from all those pretty glass bottles that you usually see on the perfume counter.

All in all: this is gold for the price!

I really don't get all the body lotion, soft, summery and other understating adjectives, descripting this fragrance. I do, however, understand what its campaign suggests regarding the bottle design and its name - I have eyes, but I also have a nose, and mine tells me that this is a mighty, spicy beast here! So, don't be fooled by the visual presentation, kids, we're talking fragrances here! And this one is a full bodied, loud, almost sharp vanilla. Would you ever call good ol' Addict a beach scent? Well, this one is not far from it in terms of power, sillage and overall impression. I know, the magic of presentation... But if you give Sun a chance and forget for a moment the plain, subdued bottle it comes in, and the mockery of a price, you could be able to sense its whole glory and rich composition. Please, do not wear this to a beach. Or do - and see for yourself if it really belongs there.

Things I love:
- Suntan lotion smell/Beachy scents
- Nivea cream smell
- Benzoin (Jaipur, Body Kouros, Pi, Midnight in Paris)
- Scents that evoke warmth and coziness
- Sun

I mean what could go wrong? Sun should be the absolute crownpiece to my oriental benzoin obsession. So I cheaply bought it blind. Well.. I really never knew what "had to scrub it off" meant because no scent has ever made me SO nauseous I would've needed to get rid of it. A few come close but Sun is by far the worst.

A synthetic, sharp and chemical stench reminescent of the headache inducing fumes that I need to endure during my chemistry lab courses at the university. To me this was bitter and inhumane. Oh wait there's one aspect that reminds me of summer: Sun smells like a bathsuit. In other words - nylon. Really I dont get the hype behind this.

I live near the beach, and there are a handful of fragrances that are as essential to me as the perfect swimsuit and this is one of them.

It smells like it was inspired by Bain de Soleil Orange Gelee lotion, which is a huge compliment. It smells like soft but not super sweet vanilla and orange, and warm sunshine on skin. I love this!

Summer in a bottle, I like!
In the beginning the smell is kind of sharp, not really a fan of that. But the drydown is very lovely, sweet and summery. The longevity is quite good too! A nice one for summer days.

Sun opened with promising citrusy and fresh powdery notes, which were lovely. As it dried down, though, I kept getting whiffs of something slightly off-putting, a bit metallic, and a little disturbing, but that I couldn't put my finger on. ("No...it's not suntan lotion...what IS it?!")

After several hours of being severely weirded out, it dawned on me that what Sun reminds me of is the smell of that neon-colored zinc from the 1980s. I don't know if that stuff even contained fragrance, but something about Sun takes me right back to summer in the '80s (specifically, family vacations in Ocean City, MD). Really odd...

Sun is such a heavy heliotrope/vanilla on my skin that I cannot imagine wearing this in the summer. It's heavy, it's sweet and powdery and really seems like chemical soup in the end. Unfortunately none of the other notes stepped forward on me. I'm completely down with beachy scents - love them in fact, but this one is a real disappointment.

This is based on a mini included in a Lancaster coffret.

After an initial nose-harassing sharp note (I'm thinking it must be the lime, which makes me go "Eooow" every time), it's settled, after 15-30 minutes, into a precise heliotrope-vanilla blend. I recognized the heliotrope from L'Heure Bleu.

Not sure I'll get a bigger size, but it's pleasant enough. Think I'll stick with L-Heure Bleu since it is richer and deeper and has that mollifying iris note.

Sun is not just a perfect summer fragrance, it can be worn all year long. It's a warm, balsamic and powdery scent, weirdly enough I don't get much of the vanilla note. To me it smells more like a powdery sunscreen, and however sunny and beachy that sounds, I really like wearing Sun in cold weather too. I've only discovered this one about a year and a half back but it was love at first sight and I will be wearing this one for many more years.

I bought this today. On the paper strip in the perfume shop it smelled kind of fresh and I read really positive reviews so i bought it.
Now that it has dried down, I'm trying to still like it but I just can't.
I get really nauseous because it's extremely sweet. I can't help but think of old ladies wearing cheap old-fashioned perfume.
Maybe I should have tried it during summer but I don't think I will like this when temperatures are higher.
Though I tried really hard, I can't get the association with sun/summer/beach.
It wasn't expensive but I still think it was a waste of my money.

I really need to buy this again when spring/summer comes! A more perfect summerfragrance than this is hard to find. Perhaps not entierly surprising, the name "Sun" kinda says it all...

This perfume smells like warm sand, suntanlotion, dripping vanilla icecream and happiness. It´s a bit sharp at first but soon dries down to smell like you´ve just come home from a day at the beach.(In a good way!) It blends with your skin so that you still smell like you, or rather an enhanced delicious and sunkissed summerversion of yourself, does that sound wierd? :D

(It has a great longevity and just the right amount of sillage to!)

Can´t wait for summer!!!

I loved the smell of jil sander sun when i was a teenager. But when i seriously started te collect perfumes the overal cheap and easy image of the fragrance did not apeal to me. No i collected classic cyphres and aimed to have niche fragrances. not that i did not buy cheap scents.. I have and liked some of those too. So now after comming full circle i have tried sun again and it is not cheap. Nor is it simple. Al first it does make me think of suntan lotion by association. Its the name that does it. But reading the notes makes me realise how complex and wonderful this creation is. It is also somewhat oriental and musky. Do not want to be without it anymore.

I spoke too soon...Upon using for the second time the amber note is what i dislike. Sprayed in the air and then walked through makes it more manageble.

Sniffed this today, going through my perfumes. Wow. I miss summer. France, hot beach, tide, gulls cry. Sun is hot, and this is like vanilla ice cream on my skin. Powdery, sticking to clothes. The occasional blast of citrus. In the evening I hang up my sundress. The creamy, spicy benzoin and vanilla linger.

I agree with The Sweedish Girl's review.

To me this fragrance is very herbal and sharp, no sign of the softness and warmth suggested by the notes given in the description.

First few minutes after spraying it smells just like a mosquito repellent; after warming up some, it gets very soapy. Not entirely unpleasent, but still a bit medicine-like.

I use it occasionally before going to sleep, but not too much. This soapiness isn't of a nice, just-got-out-of-a-lovely-bubble-bath kind. More like having a fresh duvet while curing a cold by rubbing some warming ointment into your chest.
Clean, yes. Cosy? No.
The only word from the description that actually fits is "balsamic", but otherwise it's herbal and that's it. No spicyness whatsoever.

I had such high hopes for this blind buy. But once again - epic fail.

Sun smells so very sharp, I would have guessed there was tuberose here, but no. Perhaps it`s the ylang ylang that creates this headache inducing sharpness.

Then there is this smell of melting vinyl, like a vinyl table cloth that was set on fire.

It DO smell a bit like soap, but not the good kind of soap. No, it smells lika a soap called "Bliw", which smells like the one you find in public restrooms. :-(

I don`t get any Nivea/coconut/vanilla/cosyness at all.

Sharp, harsh, piercing.

the sort of fragrance that makes you feel clean all day long, and that is quite an accomplishment. what it evokes me is a crisp autumn morning, in between a gym class and an errand. i love feeling neat, freshly showered, but i can t find anything sexy or cuddly to it. sun does make a statement in terms of femininity, but, altogether, it s simply soap (90s soap, i fully agree!), vanilla and nivea cream. i received a bunch of compliments while wearing it, so, yay... also, my boyfriend reassured me about its sillage, saying that, while he could smell it all around while we were taking a walk, he wasn t sure where that lasting scent came from (i had just bought it and never before used it in his presence)

Sun (in its early version), as the name suggests, opens with a radiant, luminous floral accord on a slightly milky base, soft and white like a mid-April plushy cloud. A dense and complex texture from which it is hard to distinguish the notes: it's a lively harmony played on the nuances of white, really nice and well executed. On the head, citrus and neroli, that kind of zesty but silky citrus-floral note; a mellow, fresh floral bouquet in the middle, creamy but light and bright, then a few spices (perhaps nutmeg and tonka), all gently posed on a balmy, sweet woody base. All around, a coloured spring breeze of pollen, heliotrope, rose, ylang... and that's it, all about liveliness, beauty and light, with a slight vanilla-almondy aftertaste which reminds me of beach lotions. Light and happy, but not shallow and not even delicate, instead as I said it's a remarkably complex and dense scent, which just manages to smell perfectly "simple". After a while it progressively becomes less luminous and more resinous, brownish, earthier, with an Oriental vanilla-tonka powdery touch which reminds me of Boucheron's Jaipur Homme. Well done!

It's not what I thought it would be. It smells unusual to me and I don't even know what I smell. A bit smoky, a bit soapy, a bit like a sun lotion and then a bit like a men's shaving cream at times. I find it weird, but not unpleasant and I'm sure there are people who's body chemistry it agrees with more than with mine.

It also smells exactly like Bettina Barty Summer Vanilla. I never had the EDT but I did have the big 500 ml body lotion of it which has a scent so strong and long lasting you don't even need to put anything else on. If you want this scent for a fraction of the price, get that lotion...you'll smell like you took a bath in Jil Sander Sun so be careful.

I bought this as a blind buy based on the reviews, at a bargain price for the gift set 75 ml edt + 150 ml showergel for only 25 euro.
It smells incredibly familiar and comforting. At first it smelled rather chemical, but that only lasted for a minute or two, then it developped in a nice wood-and-amber skin scent with a distinct suntan lotion-twist.
A remarkable perfume, so not eighties style at all.
The weather is not yet right for this, I look forward to trying this in the summer.
For those who like Bronze Godess style summer scents: don't go near this one because you will probably hate it!

I get a lot of musc, more like white musc... reminding me of White Musc by The Body Shop.
A lot of "skin in the sun" and sunscreen.
I get some tropical flowers that are more balmy that the ones we are used to.
A touch of freshness... lemon... but a deeper one, less bitter.
The cassis brings the whole thing together tempering down the musc and giving it a more soft a fruitier body.

A big surprise. Never thought I would like it.

The marketing downer is obviously the packaging.

Before I sprayed it I wasn't sure it was a perfume or a sunscreen.

But overall well done Jil Sander!

Jil Sunder Sun was a suprise for me: it's not the usual "beach" scent, actually it's not a beach scent at all. It is like a warm sunbeam, blissful and embracing, rich and balmy. It is like a tamed version of Jean Paul Gaultier's Gaultier2: not that loud, not that thick, not that creamy, but also more complex. Since I love Gaultier2, it's no question that Sun is really appealing to me.
If I may suggest something: go and listen to Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge over Troubled Water - that is Jil Sander Sun. Then listen to Johnny Cash's cover - that is Gaultier2.

The first blow Sun is very strong and slightly suffocating. I think that's mix of orange flower, heliotrope and ylang ylang.
Smell a little retro.
Reminds me any soap from the 90's.
Then, the smell is changing.
It creates such a soft and velvety coating.
The smell is strong creamy and very, very sensual.
It reminds me of summer evening and hot sun amber.
I recommend it for warm summer evenings.
Persistence is huge and has a long tail.
I recommend it to followers of the Orient....and more.
I love it!

I've had this scent for a little bit now and only now finally got around to reviewing it. I'd had a chance to buy it at a discounted price at the airport, however I didn't buy it and it has been haunting me ever since.

It's LOVELY. The only thing, to me, that's ruining this scent is its reputation and association with older, German women wearing it throughout the 90's til this day (that I wasn't aware of at all). Bad PR. That's it!

Sun is well composed, long lasting and indeed - it smells like the sun to me. Like creme brulee served to you on a slow, non-humid hot day when the warm, orange sun is setting down. With a glass of Thai iced tea.

It's warm, sweet, balmy, cuddly, creamy, cozy and complex. It's one of those scents I only spray 2-3 times, sometimes I even create a 'cloud' in front of me, only to walk through it. It's incredibly strong on my skin, great quality. It reminds me a little bit of Lys Soleia, just less bright, as if perceived through slightly smudgy, amber-coloured sunglasses.

I'm very happy I got a bottle of this, can't wait to use it in the autumn/winter.

After purchasing a mini perfume years ago this summer It become my signature scent. Perfect for hot humid weather, gives a nice friendly aura, and very safe in the office.

Must admit that the try and hesitating period was much longer than usual before the bigger bottle procurement at an extremely discounted price.

More multifaceted perfume to be felt and analyzed calmly. Looking at the bottle of Sun Jil Sander, which gives us the impression that something is very simple dwells there, but to be experienced on the skin, in fact, we know that it is Sun, 1989, and he has for each that intends to use it may not be the same or as nice. Its creator, Pierre Bourdon, also created Kouros, Fantasme, Dolce Vita and Cool Water ... then I realized how versatile it is in their creations, since among its concebimentos he shows a stubborn what you do, passion and enthusiasm to create their masterpieces. Well, Sun Flowers opens with super hot cooked in fresh fruit juice diluted with some lemon zest Woods I can not identify, and the result is an output not behaved that can scare, because it refers to a retro vibe means there is something in his departure that recalls Lou Lou, perhaps the dose of dried currant, not sure. Thereafter doses crumb Carnation again will undo his departure complicated, not fully, with petals of roses, Ylang Ylang and more a real big balcony, the lily that shines and stands out in the fragrance of the way I like feel lilies in fragrances: new, blank, bright, clear and tenacious in its highest beauty, to guide you, compared to the Sun Lily Lily Downy fabric softener concentrate Lilies of the Field, after the machine has lean and stored in wardrobe, without taking nor. His farewell Musk is amber colored and seasoned with aromatic benzoin enough, nothing alarming, he says goodbye and without comportadamente scream rowdy with Sandalwood Peace blowing kisses and hugs. I was tested in heat and cold, and I realized he develop better in the cold, in milder temperatures, despite the name Sun, but that does not mean it does not combine with a pair of flip-flops and the edge of a pool with family and friends, is a perfume you can not please all the different faces it has, however, becomes a differentiator in the midst of fresh water and excruciating that have been launched from the outside world. Fixing and silage 6am or more, depending on the weather.

I dedicate this review to my noble and faithful Friend Rodriguez! Thanks for everything.

Very very interesting fragrance. I remember first smelling it in the early nineties and being blown away by such an unusual scent. I can't describe it. It's sweet like a slightly sticky hot summer's day at the beach on holiday abroad, sun block and ice cream mixed with a hint of fresh sweat and pure joy.
It is still very different from other fragrances, but thankfully the hype has died down a bit - anyone else remember 1994 as the summer when every woman in the world seemed to be wearing either Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers or Jil Sander Sun, or is that just me? (yes, I had both...)
Anyway I didn't replace my second bottle when it ran out a few years ago because I was too busy being seduced by new (to me anyway) fragrances, but I might get another soon as we're bound to have our four days of summer at some point in the near future (surely? Please?), and I do so love this on a sultry summer's day.

After hearing around me so many negative opinions about this scent i was always walking around it and not even willing to test. That was a mistake! I got my very own sample, put in on and was waiting for this terrible and cheap smell to surround me. But it didn't happen. Instead i discover another beauty which is neglected by majority.
Opens with huge burst of alcohol and something sour not very promising but after 5 minutes it already gets vanilla powdery. Truly adorable. Yes, it does smell like baby powder but for me this accidental discovery is superb :)
It's very comforting and type of 'hug me' smell.
Lucky me - there will be special offer on that one next week in my local drug store. Gonna grab my own bottle.

This is one of my longtime favorites. I used it when it first came out in 89 when I visited Germay I used it throughout the 90 s as my main frag. This is where my love for sweet warm benzoin vanilla amber scents started wiyh a orangey top note. love love love. Not available in Canada as far as I know. Mom brings it over sometimes.

Jil Sander Sun is a sweet and warm fragance. It is a summer perfume but I find it wearable for all seasons. If worn in the summer, I don't recommend it so much for daytime, because when it's hot this perfume tends to become to sweet. This is because of the combination of the orange blossom, ylangylang, vanilla and tonka bean... Also you can detect a little woodiness after half an hour, cedar so is said and it gives more kick to it.
Overall it is a very good perfume, it lasts and has a good sillage. For those who love sweet perfumes it's highly recommandable

Despite its name, Sun is a fragrance for cold winter days. Benzoin simply warms your skin, along with heliotrope, amber, vanilla, dried fruits ... I can't even imagine wearing it in summer. It's heavy oriental, and staying power is amazing!
And I forgot to say, I've had it long time ago, just hopped that I could appeal...but this will have to go, tough, just not the right scent for me.

I am in LOVE !!!!!!!!!!!
This fragrance is sensual and wonderfully intoxicating.
It is hard to distinct the notes - it is just the most perfect mix of sweet gourmand notes and a tiny bit powderyness.
It is strong at first and somewhat bordering on cloying - but just give it half an hour and perfumeheaven starts to open up.
It gets utterly delicious and creamy.
I have never wore this fragrance during the 90ies but remember the smell so knows that many people wore it.
Unlike many people I dont think it is a summerfragrance. It is heavy enought to work perfectly during the cold wintermonths.
But I will wear it all year around as it is now on my top ten list - at the moment no 1.

This was one of the very first perfumes I bought for myself as a teenager. It just reminds of holidays filled with suntanning, lazing around and eating ice cream. Jil Sander Sun is a charming fragrance that in its initial stages reminds me of soap, a very common soap flavor.
It's dry down lasts for ever and is very vanilic.
I don't think it resembles Rumba Ballenciaga at all apart from the sweetness.
By the way, I don't think it's a purely summer scent.

Śtarts very soft, first sniff is musk, and after a few minutes it starts to grow. Great scent. Soft and close to your skin, safe and female, perfect for every-day-use or office.

Startar väldigt försiktigt, första sniffen är muskig och efter några minuter så växer andra doftnoter fram. Härlig doft. Mjuk och hudnära, säker och kvinnlig. Perfekt som varje-dag-doft eller till kontoret.

This is nice scent which smells like suntan lotion but on me it was very flowery and pungent. This is combination of creamy vanilla and little pungent flowers and hints of sour fruit. At least on me. I will never buy it because it´s not my cup of tea but I remember the time when I sprayed it on my arm in hot day at the airport and than flew somewhere for the first time alone. The family was still at the airport waiting when the plane start but I had to fly and be for some months alone. It brings so many memories... :-)

I should love this - vanilla, benzoin, heliotrope and ylang ylang being pretty much my favourite notes. However what this turned into on my skin was a fruity, creamy scent like sun tan lotion with carnation in the middle giving it a bit of a bite. It took on a waxy quality which I dislike.
What it is is a great beachy scent, that stays very well and has nice sillage that's not annoying in hot weather. It's thick and creamy and fruity. Unfortunately it just doesn't work for me.

I am wearing this right now.To tell you the truth, I've smelled it before, but never really liked it. When smelled on someone else, it smells sour and powdery, with a touch of vanilla, usually too much for summer. However, when worn by me, I love it. It's a comfort scent, with a good sillage, with a strange, but good smell of "dateness", quite milky and beautifully made. I love the bottle, too, seems like it's meant to be cheap, although rich scent wearable all year round. I believe it is the best perfume to be worn in the summer for those who are fed up with fruity, sweet scents and want something slightly oriental.

I wish there was a Super-Love category in my profile, because Sun would be there! This is sweet, balmy, vanillic, and has a certain bubblegum quality to it. I find it very uplifting! It's also much better in cold weather for me, despite the name. In hot weather, the vanilla note can feel a bit overwhelming and plasticky on my skin. This is not a sheer fragrance...it can be quite intense, which I like!

There are some wonderfully combined notes suffocated by something too strong and stuffy.
As it dries down it gets better, but just not quite for me to purchase it and/or wear it. It is a strong spicy powdery bitter fragrance, more like for winter and cooler weather. This would be too strong to wear on a sunny warm day out.
I am very undecided about this scent; part of me likes it but at times can't stand it-not good enough.
I like powdery, beachy, candy like notes, but it's like as someone has dirty it all, up? Could it be patchouli-carnation overkill- highly likely. Also, this is a mature perfume; lasts quite awhile 6+ hours.

Though this perfume is sweet, it's still kinda fresh. I never could describe it or any of the notes. It's a perfume I will always remember, I know exactly how it smells and I love it.

But usually, I like rating the perfume pyramid. I can't smell anything out of it and I was really confused, when I read "vanilla" and so many fruits.

Very very special, I love it!

Very rarely do I experience a fragrance smelling like a deodorizer, but this one reminds me of the smell of a cheap, cakey odorizer. Strangely this fragrance reminds me of the scent of some cosmetics or facial products. Just can't come to terms with this one being summery or sunny. Lots of people ask me which perfume I'm wearing but no one has ever heard of it, which is part of it's attraction.
It is well priced for a large 75ml bottle. The cheapest I have bought it is around £16.00 from Tenerife (Sept 2011) but I have seen it on sale for a lot more.

Oh dear, Sun. Is there any German woman left, who hasn't owned you at one point or another of her life? Yeah, I know, I had you, too.

You have appeal and you are better than all that celebrity nonsense out there. You are made for young women, not for us middle-agers, I know. Have fun at the beach. Or at the cocktail bar. Young sun tanned bodies on holidays. Smell nice. That's what you are about.

But you see, all those middleaged ladies still turn on you, the first day in late winter - early spring, when the sun is feeling warm again after the long winter time. Then I can smell you everywhere: workplace, supermarket, street. And I don't like it. I can read the mind of the wearer in that moment and it is not creative to wear you, as you are called "Sun"! In your face uncreativity! Nobody wears you on christmas, just because of the name!

Go away, you are not for me anymore. I'm too old, too wrinkly, and too free minded for a perfume, that gives me the exact time, when to where, with it's name (wait... and what about the gracious Nuit de Noel...? ; ) )!

I have a sample, I've tested it today.

What can I say? It may be noticed easily that the perfume isn't "new", I mean, it's the style of 80's and early 90's. I can also notice this scent is recognisable as belonging to Jil Sander's fragrance family.

The beginning is the most out-of-date, like grandma's perfume - something like anise sore throat candies taken from a pharmacy shop, very sweet ones, you can sniff the pharmacy here. Also, the fragrance is warm, sharp and reminds of sun and sand indeed.

The note, hard to stand, lasts for about 45 minutes, and after 25-30 minutes from spraying maybe comes the note of glue, white glue used by kids in schools - not the best one either.

What's the most likeable comes in about 1 hour or so, it's a suntan oil, very very similar to real one. Then the scent goes prettier and prettier, more oriental. What comes after many hours is creamy and delicate, not out-of-date at all.

If you want to smell like that, you may like it. I see it's a good scent - in the beginning of 90's maybe even very good - but nowadays you can feel it's an oldie in first 1 hour. What comes next is nice, you may recall summer and that's OK with me. A thick killer, a bit powdery but it has something... it can be good in winter to recall summer ;) it's better in cold days, I suppose, because it's too heavy for summer.

Lots of benzoin, amber, I detect orris root...

P.S. I love "Style" and "Jil".

The scent: 3,80/5
Bottle: 1/5 (sorry!) it has to imitate suntan oil but it's ugly
lasting power: 4,50/5

Edit: actually I even like it :) It's a Demeter-ish way of creating sun, straight and not much subtlety, but the fragrance has something in itself :)

I haven't found any other perfume to rival Sun in the light-hearted, warm breezed and cloudless sky, all-is-well-with-the-world, positive-holiday-feeling stakes, even in the depths of winter. One spray of this and I defy you to feel miserable.

It's not a masterpiece of a perfume that takes itself seriously - it's a "I just can't help liking this perfume" in spite of that. It's a refreshing change - and far superior to the cheap summery body sprays I used to douse myself in before I discovered this playful little ray of sunshiny joy. It's a great friend to have.

I agree with those who say this might be different if the packaging didn't say sun. It is packaged as if it is going to be a fresh summer perfume, it is in fact quite rich and decadent. Another of my absolute favorites that Luca Turin doesn't like. Resulting in my reading Perfumes to specifically find the ones he doesn't like, (the two star orientals) thinking that I will probably like them!

This smells strangely fizzy to begin with, there's really nothing else like it(well, I've not found anything yet..) No idea how it's done. Completely unique. The fizzyness has something a little raspberryish about it. It's very thick and heavy like heat haze itself. Hot, fresh and absolutely does bring to mind a day at the beach. I am very impatient and don't like waiting until scent warms up and this is perfect for me. Immediate brilliance on contact and then just keeps on giving. Lasts and stays pretty much the same with just that odd fizzyness dying away.
Have gone through three bottles :)

I will not give my opinion if this is a great perfume or not, if it smells synthetic etc. that I am no expert and this is a peculiar aroma. To my very special and recognizable, intense solar!!!! I smell it and go directly to my memories of a summer in the Mediterraneo and makes me happy :D. It's like an antidote, dose of happiness, so I'm not very objective.
For me it is the embodiment of summer, the sun , the sea , and energy. You can not miss ever in my collection but i not use very often ,courtesy at work, only special moments , this perfume does not go unnoticed .

I love Sun for years. It's indeed very distinctive, once you smell it, you never forget it. It's really warm and wraps you around, and its creamy sensuousness hugs you. Pure love. And it is strong. This may sound odd as it is supposed to be a summer fragrance but it's not stiffling, there's a powdery freshness (I know you're asking how could that be but really it's nothing I've come across before) that keeps it breezy enough. A little. :) Lastly, it's longevity is pretty good. And despite the name and the aim, I'd wear it in winter as well. It's strong enough for that.

This is the first time I tried Sun and I can not imagine wearing it in summer. On my skin it's a floral oriental, a bit fruity first (best part) and powdery-woodsy in the drydown. It really has a cozy suntan lotion feeling to it but I wonder wether I would feel the same if it hadn't the name: SUN. I rellay think this fume in a different bottle may behave quite different for a lot of people without tthat evident association with summer. Now i have it only on my wrists but plan to wear it for a few days before re-reviewing it:) A very imrpessive scent for so long.

Sun came out modestly from polite white bottle. At first, it did resemble to sun tanning lotion smell, as I expected from its name and reviews I’ve read. Soon, started to grow on my skin. Minute by minute. Taunting, shining, colossal ball immersed in fierce scent gloomed.

It was a sun. Central star in master lodge of long lasting perfumes. Generated million vanilla nuclear fusions in it core and created continuously expanding corona from sweet, warm flowers. Sun is bright oriental vanilla, not the fruity floral you may expect. This is 1980 s product. Powerful, direct, with personality.

I am putting my sunglasses on. Because of the temporary blindness provoked by shiny beam from polite white bottle. Take care!

In truth, I understand how his lavatorial link was made....the first 10 mins are a strange fake citrus-mix, underpinned by a faintly warm orange-blossom/vanilla. It is more than a little loo-like...although I feel it resembles a posh vanilla toilet air freshner at this stage, not some scummy public pissoire.

A wee while later (excuse the pun) & all that is a distant memory. My wrist smells delightful: heady, sensuous, creamy, warm & gloriously golden. I am not overwhelmed by any particular note - the effect here is of a lazy, hazy sweetness wrapped around a cozy vanilla base....some flowers, some fruits....but the sun has blurred their outline & renders them unrecognisable.

I mistakenly believed this would be a delicate fragrance but it has some substance & a sillage that graces the air around me as I move. Quite thick, quite heady.

Sweeter than I am normally comfortable with....but something keeps drawing me in to sniff closer....& then I smile. It really is a happy, uncomplicated scent. A nice ray of simple sunshine in this cold winter.

I like this fragrance, but I must say that everytime I wear it I feel much older :(

It was my first fragrance ever. I was 12 years old and loved it so much.

Now, I hate it. Every second woman wear it. It´s too overpowering especially for summer - it kills me.

Sorry to all fans!

Oh my, it smels so heavenly! Soft but strong, sweet in a creamy way, it is simply amazing! It envelopes you in a cuddly aroma. But it is so hard to find here! Why, oh why!

Sun Sun Sun.This one was my signature for a long time i had three bottles of it.I'm so surprised, to see that it's floral fruity, because it don't smell much fruity notes.Jil Sander Sun is a unique fragrance and it have the typical Jil sander look. It's very hard to discribe the smell.
It's creamy and fresh, powdery and floral, and only a bit fruity the bottle and the name fits perfect to this scent it's definitive a summer fragrance but i also worn it on the colder day's.Sun is also a very clean and soft fragrance,i loved it but smelled it to often many womans wear this one,and i don't want to buy a fourth bottle, but this is a great fragrance,i had good moments with wearing this.

I'm reviewing the sun fragrance mist, which is very similar but you have to give this a chance. It does leave a weird film on my skin which I don't like but after spraying it takes it about 10 minutes to develop into the heavenly scent. It actually reminds me alot of Revlon Ciara... never thought that before but again this is not the edt its alcohol free fragrance mist. I like it..

A great scent! A summmer's classic! And yes it smells 100% of summer in a bottle. No one can create a better summer scent in my view. Particularly suitable for blond types.

I love this fragrance! It starts out kind of citrussy but then it dries out to this warm sweetish flowery scent with a touch of vanilla. Great for summer but I also wear it in winter.
Staying power is good, one application lasts me all day.

Great great great scent! Today's summer scents are watered down, they are too much fruity or have too much marine notes.. This is not like that, hard to describe but you still feel like you are in lovely summer night.. or at the beach.. Everybody who smell it on me said that I smell like I layered myself with sun lotion, which is not bad.. I feel happy when I have this on.. Perfect staying power.

A true summer fragrance :-)! I used to wear this during holidays when I was much younger. I think it has quite sweet, fresh yet warm notes in it. I received compliments wearing it, all the time! Would not wear it anymore though, find it a bit too heavy to my nose nowadays........
