I got a sample of this and I thought I would try it. It's actually the first time I have worn a "men's" fragrance. My mom didn't think it smelled masculine, but I think it does. I suppose it could be unisex, but it's not really one that I am going to want to wear. I did put it in my likes because it does smell really good. It is very intense on the lavender, and with the addition of myrhh and patchouli, I found it to be very earthy, herbal, and something I would love to smell on a man. I put it on over 7 hours ago and it still is strong smelling. I personally would use it in a soap, but I don't think I will wear the perfume again. Guys, try this one out. I would totally want to cuddle a guy who was wearing this! It would be a good year round fragrance, but more for day use.

This is my favorite of the Jo Malone line, and endowed with better tenacity than most of them. Though it's often listed as a scent for men, I find it irresistible on anyone. In fact, I think it's better on women, perhaps. Much better. I've seen other reviews that compare it to shaving cream or old school drug-store/chemist's male colognes, and all I can say is it doesn't seem so to me. It smells absolutely, utterly sensual...when I first sampled it I immediately thought of sex. (Yes, right there at the counter in Harrod's; thankfully the perfume area is one of the less horrifically crowded areas, so only the sales associate witnessed whatever my face may have been giving away...) Not the actual, physical smells of sex or bodies or skin---just the thought of sex, the scent of unreflective, compelling attraction and desire. If the moment of falling into bed with someone had a scent, it would be Amber and Lavender. The notes in this perfume don't merit such a, ahem, strong reaction; I cannot explain this in any rational way, and there is no association in memory of this perfume with any romance or any person. Although I have many other perfumes and would list many things ahead of this one if compiling a favorites list, I still need always to have a bottle of J.M. Amber and Lavender at hand. 'Nuff said.

Great Spring/ Summer scent. It's fresh and refreshing. Not deep or complex. Casual and will work well as day scent. This would be an excellent choice for the office, brunch or shopping. No one gets offended here.

In general, I find Jo Malone's to have light sillage, be fairly weak in longevity and really don't overpower. Surprising, this lasts longer then I expected.

Not a big lavender fan but this is ok by me. The bergamot says hello and disappears fairly quickly. Amber more so then the patchouli brings up the rear and does blend well with the prominent lavender.

Not femme but it really is not manly.

Was just given a tiny 1.5ml vial of this by a colleague, I dont know where he's getting them at such disposal but I should find out, becaused based on this and the Pomegranate Noir he gave me, I can easily say Jo Malone is now my favourite designer.

I tried it on my backhand, then decided the Hugo Boss in Motion I was wearing today may mix well. Amber&Lavender completely swallowed and filtered the BossIM, and, notibly to me, adopting the musk, the extra cinnamon and the wood notes.

I want to try it with something leathery, then maybe try going a lil too far to mix with something of the whiskey & tobacco influence.

Update: I had an emergency when my cologne for the day was smashed at work, I had a sample of Amb/Lav in my drawer at work.
Ive since discovered on two occasions its actually a very pleasing scent to wear by itself.
Earthy
Soft Floral
and almost femme.

Ill be after a purchase soon.

So nice! I would narrow it for male wear only, because it really smells like a good old-style revised refined masculin cologne, the kind that elegant gentlemen wore after their toilette and shaving, also for evening out.
Lavender and amber are very strong in the blend. As for many Jo Malone's, the other notes are complementary, but with good reason to be there.
Very warm, yet balanced, conforting and makes me dreams of men from different class (of humans, not strictly economical)!

To me this is a masculine scent and I smell the amber clove, and cinnamon, more than lavender. I think it is a very nice masculine scent and is very long lasting.

I did not like it very much: it is almost like a shaving foam scent, more suitable for a guy in my opinion. On the other hand, this fragrance can be easily blended with other Jo Malones - I tried it with Pomegranate Noir and Grapefruit))By itself - it's nothing special, gets somewhat better after the opening. If you're looking for a classic masculine fragrance, you might give it a try =)

For me is the classy and very interesting pair of lavender and amber. It's a very masculine scent, and familiar, may be that is why it smells like shaving foam ;o))) familiar, safe, masculine.

The lavender is forefront, powerful, astringent. The Amber is there..when it peeks out, it's very fine, high quality amber, that I want more and more and more of. Quite long lasting, even after washing- it persists. I could not find other notes as listed above; seems as if the Lavender drowns them out, or rather, beats them down. Just by the title of this scent, I thought I would fall into a delightful, velvety, gentle, but lively dream world. It's just the opposite-biting, sharp, thin...wich often is a good thing. This is very masculine..good, OK, fine; However, it smells just like BRUT for men..the old cheap stuff in the green bottle. That point-is exactly what I cannot enjoy about this perfume.

Wi-zi-wig.
Like several of Jo Malone’s blends, Amber and Lavender is a fragrant "wiziwig." That’s a sound-it-out spelling for WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get), a user interface term with etymological roots in Flip Wilson's "Geraldine" act, and a 1972 hit song by the Dramatics.

In this no-nonsense mix, for the first twenty minutes or so, light, creamy amber peacefully coexists with herbal lavender. Within an hour the amber fades, lasting close to the skin, while lavender takes the lead. The two notes nearly regain equilibrium in a quiet, long-lasting dry drown.

I find straightforward, brisk lavender scents difficult to wear, even once they fade, perhaps because lavender is my aroma of choice for dish soaps, ironing water, and such. Unlike Jo Malone’s luscious Dark Amber and Ginger Lily, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts (a phrase Luca Turin often uses), the scent of Amber and Lavender never overreaches its name. I like ti best about 8 hours in when I have to seek it out on my skin.

Lavender lovers should try this fine example of disambiguation in fragrance. As for me, while I appreciate the simplicity of WYSIWYGs when building web pages, I would rather navigate multiple layers of complexity in high-end bottles.
