English Pear and Freesia Jo Malone for women Pictures

Jo Malone presents new fragrance, English Pear and Freesia, which unites English landscapes and seasons which are connected with souls of the British.

Inspiration for this fragrance were also verses by one of the last great romantic poets, John Keats (Ode to Autumn).

Jo Malone's creative studio chose a perfumer for this collection. That is Christine Nagel known for numerous successful creations (Miss Dior Cherie, Narciso Rodriguez, Rose Absolue, Delices etc). The fragrance is ripe, juicy and thoroughly designed.

Nuances of freesia and pear are very complex, since ripe pears were necessary to achieve a certain note to sound unique in composition of the fragrance.

Pear in the moment of perfect ripeness has crispy structure of skin and juicy fruit. Pear is combined with quince which introduces honey sweetness and is surrounded with white freesia and wild climbing rose.

A base of the composition is created of green, fresh and sour nuances of rhubarb along with warm and subtle aromas of patchouli, amber and white musk that stay in a trail.

Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia is available as 30 and 100ml EDC. The fragrance arrives on the market in September 2010.

English Pear and Freesia Fragrance Reviews

based on the reviews and notes, I thought there's no way I'm not going to love this perfume, since fresh, sweet, light floral notes are almost always agreeable on me.

In fact, It's a very nice fragrance itself indeed, elegant, long-lasting(after 12h it's still detectable), but on my skin it smells a little plastic, and too flat-sweet for my taste(to my surprise because I adore sweet notes).

I wouldn't call it a sexy perfume AT ALL, because it reminds me those english lady of old times, feminine, modest and graceful. I'd say I prefer something with a little more characters and modern. Will probably try to layer it with something else later to make it less straight-forward and flat.

I love the pear scent in this, but it's rather powdery overall. It reminds me of a scented drawer liner in the fragrance of Nantucket Briar by Crabtree & Evelyn. It does have tremendous lasting power, and the patchouli note, to me, is a very clean one. The sillage is a bit too much for the office, but it might suit the occasion if one is meeting one's in-laws for high tea. It's generally pleasant smelling, but I think it's best suited for room ambiance or maybe a little girl in her Easter dress.

I so wanted to love this fragance, because on a paper tester, it's beautiful. On my skin, not great.

Yes, initially opened with an invitingly fresh mix of ripe pear, melon, freesia and -- rose! Sillage was good on the rose note, maybe too good (I wanted the blend to hold, especially as a bit of amber and musk came out, but I got mostly rose).

Dry down was the real problem. I couldn't place the scent, but three people whom I made sniff my arms, (on one I'd layered body cream and cologne, on the other, just cologne) all immediately said, verbatim, "Too soapy." On my skin, they were right. Unfortunately I think it needs skin's warmth to avoid too much musk and patchouli; when I sprayed only on clothes, dry down was off-putting, a bit of a headache, probably from too-assertive patchouli, while strong musk made it smell -- dirty? Weird for such a clean fragrance on paper, I know, but there it is. Boo. This Jo Malone is the longest lasting of her florals that I've found.

I love this one. First time I smelled it was on a friend of a friend of mine... I was instantly drawn in. It smells so sexy and daring... almost a little dirty, but not quite. And then it also smells sweet, but not too sweet like a gourmand smell. It is heavy and lingers on one hand, but is not offensive or overbearing. I feel it certainly makes a statement. I love love love this smell in hot humid weather... I love how it floats in the air. I bought my first bottle in the winter, and can't wait for the hot weather to wear this one, because I feel the smell gets lost in cold dry air... like a simple meek pear smell. I'm sure it will thrive once the heat and humidity come. A favorite of mine for sure.

This is incredibly fresh and light sweet of pear and then honey. I love freshness of white freesia in this bottle. I recommend this one. Smell very fresh on me but not in a citrus way. Really romantic and soft. So, I can't walk away from the boutique without this one. Very worth for money although just a cologne but last long on my body enough til I get off at 04.00 from work. Love home candle too !!!

A watery disappointment. The initial spray smells like "Rid" insect repellent, not unpleasant, but NOT a perfume smell. Then I get a very watery, weak melon, and then a couple of hints of pear and freesia, but I am afraid this is far too weak a fragrance for me, and not very long-lasting either. This is the first Jo Malone I have tried and I will try others happily, but not an auspicious start. It's been an extremely hot day and I will try this one again in cooler weather, as I want very much to like it.

2 hrs later: Just as I thought it had faded away it returned with a vengeance. It was strident and sour and I had to wash it off. I'm never going to be friends with this one, in any kind of weather.

Years ago I wore Bath & Bodyworks "Freesia". I loved it, but I was young and impressionable. Now, my nose is smarter and I cannot go back to cheap synthetic fragrances.

Jo Malone's English Pear and Freesia is a sophisticated way to wear a fresh, freesia scent. Unlike her usual light-weight fragrances, I was impressed by the longevity of this particular scent.

Like the freesia of my youth, this fragrance makes me feel good. And, I can sniff my wrist hours later and still smell the scent. I would not wear it to a job interview. For that, I'd need something more serious. But for my own sheer pleasure English Pear and Freesia is a perfect fit.

I received some samples of this today and sprayed some on a few minutes ago. The first thing I smelled was peppery-spice notes- which I have now realized is the smell of patchouli. Then a minute later, the melon and rhubarb notes emerged. I'm going to wait for the drydown and report on favourable results if there are any.

Update: Drydown was nicer, with the pear emitting a fresh smell I really like, but the dirty patchouli (as usual) stood strong throughout the whole thing. I think I've learned my lesson now- if patchouli is listed in the top 5 detected notes, I shall stay away! I can see why patchouli would work better on guys- this scent would probably smell good on them. Longevity and sillage were okay.

A perfect fresh, fruity floral that smells crisp and delicious. I like this paired with Jo Malone Nutmeg and Ginger for a beautiful fall scent.

Tried this today in a wonderful "parfumerie" in Brussels. The pear in the opening was lovely fresh and sweet and sour all at once. It lasted well, about 5 hours, though it passed through some rather soapy moments. As I write now, it has settled into something reminiscent of the quintessential English summer drink, sparkling elderflower lemonade. I am not sure if I will buy it (which means I probably won't) but I do like it. It is feminine but not deep.

The fruitiness is tart and sour, offset by floral notes (which have a sweetness but it is not fruity sweetness). I also get a honey smell, which is probably my nose's interpretation of the rose. Very nice compliment to the tart & sour pear. After a while I get some of the musk/amber, but it is very subtle and a nice addition to the fragrance after it has waned a bit.

The smells are rich and sharp and remind me of an autumn afternoon. I received a sample of this cologne with purchase of Orange Blossom, and liked it so much more than I would have thought. I've burned through my sample in a few days and can't wait to get a bottle for the fall!

I wonder if Jo Malone started out creating room or ambience fragrances....while this is lovely, to be sure, it reminds me of a 70s Fruit scent or of a room spray. Nothing I would ever wear as a fragrance, especially not layered with the Pomegranate Noir as my Neiman Marcus mailer suggests. There is some development of musks after the initial ripe, juicy fruit, but this is a very simple scent at heart.

As comic Arte Johnson would say on the 60s TV show Laugh-in: "Veeeeery Interesting!"

Is no one else getting a minty eucalyptus for the first 1/2 hour? A medicinal "zing"? Anyone?

I'd swear it smells as if I had just put on an ointment for sore muscles. Or maybe this is what a spoon would smell like after I've taken cough syrup.

Ah! But wait! This passes. Nat13 is right: this is where the chypre comes in. This is driving me CRAZY, but it reminds me of another scent, and I can't think of which one it is. (Yes, there's a boozy similarity to Badgley Mischka...but I'm thinking of something else.) It transports me back to the early/mid-70s. I'm 16 years old. There was something that existed back then which was similar...

I don't particularly like the opening of this one, but the ending is floral/herbal and pleasant!

Addendum: I STILL can't think of the 70s scent it reminds me of, but I CAN say, once this dries down, English Pear & Freesia reminds me a bit of Inner Grace by Philosophy, which reminds me of SJP's Lovely.

To be honest this did not start out too well for me.

First off, I zoomed in too fast and too close and burnt my nostrils with the alcohol coming off this lol.

Once that evaporated from the top, it turned in to a cheap generic soap smell on my skin that was so disagreeable, it almost became a scrubber.

I think pear is not working for me in the opening - I feel like this note wants to lend a lovely subtle almost spiceness on someone else - not overly or artificially sweet, ... but it was going all wrong on me.

Thankfully that only had to be endured for 15 minutes before it seemed to do a complete about face and reveal it's ripe, fruity, warm, almost bordering on boozy, chypre richness. For me, the florals are just lurking in the background lending themselves to the composition but not vying for centre stage.

This is soooo like Badgely Mishka - Badgley Mishka, just less rich, fruits slightly less ripe, less booziness, softer honey, and with a 'is it or isn't it' fresh fruity edge coming from the rhubarb that does define it as more suitable for warmer weather than BM. I would just about call this Badgley Mishka's Spring Cousin.

Sillage and longevity are HUGE - this was still easily detectable on me 24 hours later.

I am surprised by how much this fragrance resembles both a somewhat 'cleaner' Agent Provocateur and a somewhat 'dirtier' Narciso Rodriguez. On my skin it's intensely musky, sexy and a quite a bit naughty. The flowers, musk and (less so) patchouli combine to create a slightly musty chypre richness, while the pear and quince keep quietly in the background and only give off occasional wafts of ripeness and juiciness.

Such a fragrance would be wonderful on lazy sunny autumn days, but then again I'm thinking is it worth the niche price when you can find something fairly similar at a much lower cost?

EDIT: But then again, my boyfriend loves it and he rarely loves any perfume. :)

I love this scent and am glad it has been added to the data base. I got a sample of this first, and it was so delightful that I quickly bought a 3.3 oz bottle. I love freesia and the combination of ripe pear and freesia makes a delightful combination. Sillage is great, it lasts 6 or 7 hours on me, which for me, is excellent. To me, it smells divine and all notes smell very natural and of the highest quality. All in all, it is a lovely floral fruit combination that I recommend at least sampling.
